so many people just hear "dick was a cop" and go "eww im gonna pretend i didnt see that" and like. if its just bc you cant handle the subject matter thats one thing, but often times its just. performative. especially because the actually storyline is so much about dick trying (and as far as ive gotten to reading so far, failing) to make a change in the system and be a "good cop". it's an extremely heavy but genuinely very interesting storyline. dick does find other "good cops", but they're very much the minority and usually keep their heads down, because cops are bastards and will ruin the lives of "fellow officers" who try and do things right. they try to frame dick for murder at one point and everything.

tbh it's mostly coincidence or happy accident. For Riot Kings, just about every character was named on the fly based on their vibes. (The exceptions are Nabi, because I was looking for female Korean names, and Mercury Swift, which is a name I came up with and wrote down a while before starting RK because it sounded cool)

For T$$ I created the main cast all at once, and wanted to have varying syllables and vowel sounds. More than anything else, this is usually what I fall back on:

For example, Joy and Vic are both one-syllable names, and deliberately have different ending sounds

Kaius, Benji, and Hunter are all two-syllables, but they have enough sound variance to keep me happy lol

It's more my own personal preference than any real advice, but this is something I've stuck to to the point of changing a name if I realize I have too many two-syllable names or too many "ee" or "oh" sounds already (just examples)

For last names, I'll usually google surnames from that character's heritage and find one that makes a good cadence with their first name (aka I say a few combos out loud and see which one rolls the best)

#in hunter and benji's case i gave them uncommon but somewhat “white sounding” surnames based on the fact that i have a few friends with #indigenous/immigrant heritage whose grandparents or great grandparents changed their last names in order to find work in the 20th century #alexei wilder is a rare example of me going 'ok i need a name that sounds kinda hot' #and even that was a poll lol so thank you to my tunglegym friends #anon #writing tips #(sorta) #any cool name meanings are coincidence in the vast majority of cases skfjkdkdheh

Tangle has such good Cool Big Sis energy with Tails . . . like in a lot of ways she has similar drive and energy to Sonic (albeit maybe a little less responsible in some areas since she's new to adventuring and mostly just grew up living a normal life in a normal town), and so in that way it's easy to see how she and Tails could become really fast friends if they were ever given more time to work with each other. But even apart from that, we've already seen how she would look after him, too, because even if she lived in a normal life in a normal town and was never responsible for looking out for anyone else (she and Jewel are the same age I'm pretty sure), she still would if given the opportunity and we actually have that with Tails in canon.

Like I don't blame the characters for the bad writing in Forces because obviously they have no agency over how they were written, and Tails in particular was just butchered in that game, but . . . well, given that we see Tangle working with Tails and checking in on his emotional state right after the Metal Virus ended and Sonic went MIA, I feel pretty confident in saying that she wouldn't have just let him fuck off into the wilderness if he ever "lost it" during an apocalypse scenario. Like again, the fact that Amy and Knuckles did during Forces is just another example of bad writing in that game, but Amy isn't that much older than Tails and Knuckles is used to being a loner, so I could kind of give it a pass. But Tangle really stepped up here and checked in on Tails and didn't let him just brush her off, and she's just such a Cool Big Sis who, yes, will absolutely help him test fire new rocket launchers with no safety gear and 100% agrees that cookies are an acceptable breakfast, but also genuinely cares about his emotional well-being and will look out for that, too.

Also, they're cool tail buddies. What's not to love?

Took over his mind and made him an obstacle to the group, so like they'd have to step down and retreat? I mean Delores already witnessed Bug's death and Damien was so focused on her feelings of fear and not being able to go through another tragedy again. Or shit, what if Mourosel did it? He's Delores' fiend, he's the one who gave her the warlock powers. He's always by her side, he said so himself so like.... would it be really farfetched to wonder whether he's the one behind Gunthar's sudden arrival? Sudden "betrayal"?

There has to be a really good explanation to whatever has happened to Gunthar and man, knowing the stuff Damien did already, like the crazy twists and turns he gave us, it feels true. Like it feels plausible, it feels like something he could come up with. Mourosel can't be a one time character, he's too important to understanding Delores so it has to be related to him. It has to be!!!
