hiii!!! so uh, this is sorta about 'contradicting' (?) identities in general, but i only recently found out about, like, lesboys and gaygirls and all of that, but what is it exactly? like how does it work? or is that weird to ask? i'm trying figuring myself out but a lot of stuff i've seen doesn't exactly... explain it (or explain it well), and while i guess i do get why, it's just kinda hard to understand it myself for my own identity

also, probably a question you get a lot in a hating way, but isn't the definition of lesbian nonman loving nonman? so then how does lesboy work? like is it for people with more complicated gender identites, like fluctuating genders and bigender? just genuinly confused, my apologies...

sorry for not getting to this sooner- been busier lately and didn't have the time to collect everything I needed to respond!

About what it exactly means to be a lesboy or a gaygirl ('turigirl' is the more common term, 'turi' meaning turian, another word for gay attraction to men. so I'll be referring to it as that from now on), there isn't exactly....one right way to call yourself such. it really depends on the person, but I can give you a basic definition and a list of common reasons someone may call themselves such

im gonna put a read more because this ended up being super long so sorry

lesboy is a term for any lesbian who may have a connection to manhood and/or masculinity. turigirl is just the opposite of that, a gay person (mlm/nblm) who may have a connection to womanhood and/or femininity. common reasons I've seen are:

being multigender or genderfluid

being cusper/in between trans and cis gnc (in between trans man and cis gnc woman, in between trans woman and cis gnc man)

being a system who uses lesboy/turigirl as a collective identity or when identities blur together

a person who uses man/boy or woman/girl as a means of masculine or feminine gender expression but not actually identifying as such

being a trans man/ftm or a trans woman/mtf who still identifies as lesbian or gay for personal reasons

those are far from all the reasons, everyone has their own unique experiences, but the gist is these people may have some sort of connection to manhood/womanhood while still having a queer attraction. personally, I'm multigender, genderfluid, and transmasc. lesboy I find is a nice label to express being both my bigender self and being a lesbian, as it forces people to acknowledge both without separating the two. it's cute and makes me feel validated!

as for "nonman attracted to nonmen" definition of lesbian......it has its issues. it's received criticism all around from all sorts of lesbians in the community. this definition is very new - it emerged only in the recent years, and someone on twitter had date searched it and found it didn't even really exist before 2019. and having that as the one and only official definition that every lesbian has to abide by, when lesbian is a centuries old word with so much history behind it, is a bit ignorant. people who are multiple genders or ftm or bi being lesbian is not even remotely new, going back decades upon decades, and it never stopped existing too. It's a bit weird to have a whole new definition that doesn't include all sorts of lesbians that have been here for so long and just tell them they're not welcomed anymore, right?

that's not even close to the only issue there is with it. it's been disliked for centering lack of attraction to men, or defining lesbian in relation to men, rather than who we're actually attracted to. putting nonbinary people in a new binary of either being "men or nonmen," which not all feel comfortable putting themselves into. especially when considering a definition of gay being "nonwomen attracted to nonwomen," man-woman bigender people are simultaneously excluded from being both lesbian or gay. It inherently overlaps with mspec identity ("attraction to nonmen, which is more than one gender" and "any orientation that involves attraction to more than one gender" kinda obviously overlap), despite people insisting that a lesbian can never be mspec. people have found multiple loopholes in it, (which I can elaborate on if someone wants me to, for the sake of trying to make this as short as possible), and lastly, and term "nonman" (and nonwoman) were found to have existed before to describe the degendering of black people in society. this isn't the only source I've seen for this, but sadly I can't exactly find it (or find it without going back to that hellsite called twitter and I'm not doing that to myself)

oh and as the link points out, defining lesbian by these words also ends up excluding a lot of two-spirit people from ever identifying as lesbian, myself included. which is also really racist. I don't know how you're gonna end up excluding a whole cultural gender that's common for indigenous americans to describe themselves with and try to prove it somehow isn't racist, to be honest

and lastly, some surveys/polls have shown that the definition isn't the most widely accepted by lesbians as people make it out to be. there's this simple poll that someone posted asking how lesbians felt about the definition that received 1,529 responses, and 61.1% of voters said they disliked it. comments gave lots of reasons I've stated already. there was another survey put out that received 211 responses that for any lesbian who had a genderqueer or unique relationship with gender, and one of the questions asking opinions on the "nonmen loving nonmen" as a definition. the average among the group was slightly negative (average 2.838), and reported that the group who tended to feel the most positively about it didn't consider themselves to be trans, with the other positive leaning group considered themselves to be somewhat cis. the group that felt the most negatively sometimes considered themselves to be trans. and of the multigender participants, the average opinion was 2.255 (more negative than the overall average). When concluding, the original poster stated, "When divided by gender, the only groups to feel positive about this definition were "not trans" and "somewhat cis" participants. Multigender participants felt especially negative about this definition"

all of this shows that this definition isn't nearly the best for everyone who considers themselves a lesbian. I know it's been a way to include nonbinary people who are lesbian in it's definition, but I think it really misunderstands why nonbinary people are included in lesbianism in the first place, and just assumes that all nonbinary people aren't men and fails to recognize that multigender/genderfluid people are nonbinary too. and it's not like lesbian has to only have on definition- it can definitely have multiple and depend on each person's experience with it. if someone personally defines them being lesbian around being a nonman attracted to nonmen, and takes pride in not being attracted to men, that's totally fine. what becomes a problem is forcing all lesbians to define themselves like this and make it the standard, or else they're "not real lesbians." it is ahistorical and ignorant to require this or else you'll strip them of their lesbian status, and is really at the end of the day, lesbophobic. especially as a requirement that primarily exists in online spaces. im sure the lesbian who is not at all connected to these circles doesn't particularly care about strict requirements or whether someone is a "nonman" or not. in conclusion, it is not the best nor most accepted definition of lesbian, and deciding which lesbians are valid or not based solely on that definition is pretty exclusionary and ends up policing a lot of lesbians, myself included

Just a friendly reminder and to educate people on the differences between bisexualism and pansexualism. Yes, there is more than one sexuality other than being gay, lesbian, or straight.

Bisexualism is the definitive attraction to more than one gender. No, it's NOT transphobic. To say it's transphobic is transphobic and biphobic. Nor does it exclude non binary people. So please, educate yourselves before you say something stupid.

Pansexualism doesn't mean you're attracted to all of the genders. It means you're attracted to someone regardless of gender so no, it's not a replacement for bisexualism, nor should it be. It means you're attracted to their personality, their soul. They're two completely different sexualities.

Because of these two differences, you can be both at the same time. You can be attracted to someone's gender but also their personality. For example: if you see someone and think they're attractive looking but they open their mouths to speak but it turns out they're an asshole so it completely turns you off, you might be an a bisexual pansexual, as I am.

Important thing to note here: You don't have to use these labels if you don't want to, I just wanted to make sure that people knew the differences. If you want to keep using what you've been using before, that is more than okay. It's whatever feels right to you. Bisexuals and pansexuals don't need to fight or try to make each other's sexualities disappear. It's just as valid as being gay, straight, lesbian, asexual, and aromantic. Asexuals and aromantics are valid, too, two sexualities that you can be both at the same time as well if you decide that that's who you are. Only you can know who you are, no one else can tell you otherwise. Love to all. ❤️

This little guy has been many places, though their favorite places to visit is the region that surrounds the iterator Chasing Wind.

They never stay in one place too long, but they always make sure to visit whenever possible.

Though you see him less than Saint, she's still always willing to tell the latest gossip... Very popular with the Scavenger King's group in the Outer Expanse to learn what scavenger politics are going on.

More android!Robin thoughts:

She's charged through solar energy. She calls it "photosynthesizing". She gets sleepy during rainy days and wants to cuddle and have Nancy read to her.

She's considered highly defective according to the standard. Whenever she has a technical problem, the engineer at the repair shop tells Nancy she's better off getting a new one - there's no fixing this one. Let's say Nancy isn't very pleased to hear that.

Robin has gone through a lot of repair shops in the past, some cheaper than other, and poorly done fixes have left her with a few problems - a constant twitch on her right leg - poor motor skills from the waist down, in general, she's kind of clumsy and tends to trip over anything and everything. Her battery lasts half as much as it's supposed to (she needs to photosynthesize more often), and she's completely offline and can't access the web.

Her favorite philosophers are Descartes and Berkeley.

She's constantly haunted by the existential horror of her existance and has had more than one panic attack over the nature of her own conciousness. She repeats to herself, over and over again, that because she can think and perceive she must exist, but she tends to overthink and worry she's nothing more than a machine without self.

Harder than convincing herself, though, is convincing others. It takes ages until Nancy realizes she's concious and capable of thinking and feeling as much as any human.

Nancy is the first of her many owners to let her read and make decisions of her own. She has a plan to falsify documents and make Robin pass as a human, so she can live a normal life (Robin dreams of entering college to study linguistics).

Before that, Nancy used to treat her very poorly, because she thought she was nothing more than a machine. It makes Robin so desperate, she feels so much anguish over it.

Robin's model was initially engineered to function as an emotional support android for mentally ill and traumatized people. They're common for some therapeutical treatments, though as she is, you would think she's the patient.

Robin can cry. That's not a feauture of her model - one of her previous owners loved to emotionally and physically abuse her (one of the reasons she's been through so many repair shops), and would pretty much treat her as a punching bag, the way you'd hit a pillow - he didn't know she was concious, yeah, but he was so horribly sadistic that he took her to a clandestine repair shop to implant artificial tear ducts in her, so she would cry when he hurt her. It made it more satisfying to him.

Robin can feel pain. Due to her many technical problems, she pretty much feels a little bit of pain almost all the time.

She chose her name herself. Nancy was the first person to ever respect that.

Being a lesbian is also not a feauture of her model. She's very adamant that she is one, though.

Nancy is very careful with her. She doesn't want her to suffer any more damage.

Nancy ends up hiring her brother's friend, Dustin, alongside his girlfriend Suzie, to fix whatever technical problems Robin has, since they're the only ones willing to try instead of telling her to get a new one.

Robin has a very real fear of death.

i knew night country wasn’t gay but based on the gifs i saw i definitely thought the leads were exes lol even when i finished the show i never bought either woman as straight tbh. not just because the actresses are lesbian/bi irl the energy and chemistry between them screamed dyke drama lmao. anyway i watched the first ep of under the bridge expecting something similar but the main story and real life case are so harrowing and devastating i can’t finish. i almost wish cam and becca’s storyline was in a different show because based on the gifs the chemistry is wild.

Re UTB, I get where you're coming from. I personally didn't know it was based on a real case until after the first episode when I started pulling up interviews etc. and I don't know why they made the creative choices they did with creating Cam for this adaptation and pairing her up with Becca, but they did! And they're here, having all kinds of on-screen moments, so i understand why people are gravitating toward them. They're very compelling!

I mean, look, add this to the endless list of tv shows and films based on real life cases with, some might say unnecessary, love stories and even graphic sex scenes, more graphic than what we've seen in UTB tbh, that have nothing to do with the actual case. I think we also have to keep in mind that the narrative this show is basing itself on is Rebecca Godfrey's, and her book. So, this show is a fictionalized account of HER life and her experience writing this book and yeah, True Crime adaptations can be sleazy, but I think the UTB team is (so far) taking great care in also propelling the story of Reena Virk's horrendous murder forward, and not just her murder, but the events leading up to it, of her family, her home life, the racism that lead to her murder, and I think that's great and necessary.

In my opinion, there are worse ways to get eyes on a show that is doing a great job at telling a story that could easily be overlooked.

All this to say, I get where you're coming from. It might be hard for some people to enjoy Rebecca and Cam, when we are also watching the events leading to Reena's death unravel, but the Rebecca x Cam of it all is just tumblr fodder. Reena's story is being told respectfully and with the backing of her family as far as I know, and i think it's still worth watching for that alone. If you ever decide to revisit it, at least up to episode 3, they're doing a great job.

- Her name

Tori stands for Vittoria. Why Vittoria? Because she is half-British and half-Italian (from her mother's side) 🤌. I chose the name because I like to think that her parents thought about  Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy, both sovereigns by the time of Tori's birth.

- Why Turin?

Because well, it's my birthplace! Also, Turin is a special city: it has a lot of esoteric story. In a few words, this city joins London and San Francisco to create the triangle of Black Magic, but also the triangle of White Magic too with Lyon and Prague.

My personal headcanons with future wife Poppy 💛

- Even if they're in the same house and same bedroom, Poppy had never spoken to Tori before their first Beasts Class together because the last was often away and Poppy herself is a night owl, visiting Highwing or studying beasts, etc.

- Poppy was also sure that the new fifth year will become like her schoolmates. Because sure, why the new cool, brave student will be friend with Peculiar Poppy? But fortunately Tori is such a good egg, kneazles can confirm.

- Tori decided to kneel in front of the Graphorn (because we're not a monster, right?) following Poppy's example. It was Poppy that waited patiently for the mother dragon to take its egg back. It was Poppy that put down her wand when centaurs came to her. And of course, you should show respect to an Hippogriff before approaching.

That's why she chose to kneel. The Graphorn has fought well, it deserved respect.

- Poppy felt in love first. Tori felt harder.

- Poppy doesn't need protection but loves how protective Tori is.

- Their love language is physical touch. Every single one. Surprise hugs from behind? Lovely! Forehead kiss? Adorable! Cuddles in the vivarium with beasts? The best!

- Should I really say it? Poppy is an adorable little spoon and love to be wrapped in Tori's arms.

- Tori is a golden retriever. Already from day one when Poppy asked to follow her in the forest.

- Tori feel like she could die because of Poppy's cuteness, often screaming "STOP BEING SO CUTE AND SO KISSABLE I CAN'T FOCUS"

- Poppy is a great cook, Tori isn't at all. But a few times she has tried to cook to cheer Poppy up. The result was messy but still edible and Poppy appreciated the efforts.

- They're bad dancers but they don't care, they're having fun

- I have a very sappy proposal headcanon.

Tori proposed to Poppy after a couple of months after graduation (lesbian couples move fast, okay?) and she decided to be extremely romantic.

She studied where and when to find Mooncalves' dance and saved the day on her calendar. When the day came, she took Poppy and flied on Highwing to the special place.

Poppy thought the surprise was the mooncalves' dance, instead she turned around and found Tori on her knees, with a ring in her hand. A very shining ring that a selvatic niffler has tried to steal before Poppy could say yes, jumping from a bush the moment the ring sparkled under the moonlight. The little beast had caused little chaos but fortunately they catched it before was too late. With the retrieved ring in one hand, and the beast thief in the other, Tori asked grinning "do you still want to marry meee?"

I've surely more facts and headcanons for my MC, but I think this post is already long enough!

I really like my headcanon that Steve’s parents are present, but they just happen to be gone whenever the kids or someone else in the party is around. Like maybe, Steve’s dad is fighting a giant scandal in his company, and his wife works with him, so she goes with him. Steve doesn't talk about his parents a whole lot because he's also keeping a secret for them. A secret only Robin knows. His parents are lavender married. His mom is a lesbian, and his dad is gay. His dad built his insurance company from the ground up to make sure everyone had the right to insurance, and as much as he doesn't like it, John Harrington has to save face for his clients and the people who work for him. Maggie, his wife, is his platonic soulmate and his rock, so their love is real. They have to keep up the appearance that they're straight for the asshole conservatives. Steve didn't always know, so he does everything to make sure that their secret is safe. I love Sean Robert Leonard and Stana Katic as his parents. . .in my head anyway.
