hi! i'm sorry for the dumb question but i wanted to finally start reading manga in japanese (i already have a little list of titles beginner-friendly) buuuut i'm not sure where i actually find it ;; sorry again for the stupid question

Not a dumb question at all! There are a bunch of places to get manga, the most accessible probably being (unfortunately) amazon.jp. You need to have a Japanese address to buy things regardless of where it's being shipped to (or not, in the case of ebooks), but I believe just any address will do. You can also sometimes buy manga directly on the publisher's sites. Cmoa is another good place to check, and they also will often have entire volumes of manga available to read on their site for free (just look for the 無料 section). Bilingualmanga might also be of interest. It's free (and therefore sometimes gets taken down), but is exactly what it sounds like. Their selection isn't huge, but what they do have, they have in both English and Japanese.

If you want to buy physical volumes, CDJapan is my go-to. I'm in the USA, but I'm pretty sure they ship to most parts of the world. Kinokuniya is also a good place to buy manga from, especially if you're lucky enough to have a physical store near you. My main issue with them is that I think they're overpriced, though. Another thing that depends on luck, if you have any Book Off stores near you, go check them out! It's secondhand, so finding what you're looking for is definitely luck based, but I think it's a good experience to browse Japanese language books and manga regardless.

this is all @5ainz fault. it went like this: she mentioned pearl necklace (in nsfw context). my stupid ass had no idea what the fuck that means. i looked it up. then i was like hmmm this is so charles. then i opened a doc and started writing

i do not have many words as i was busy with portfolio for one subject at uni, butttt i will be working on it soon. it will be one-shot (probably, one never knows)

here is teeny tiny snippet so far (not edited so yk)

It started as a joke, really.

A silly one Carlos did not understand at first and that made Charles laugh way too hard at him. His green eyes crinkled at the sides, pearly white teeth peeking from under his pink - oh so pink, Carlos wanted to take a bite - lips as he giggled in that adorable way of his. Corners of Carlos’ mouth were twitching at the sides, desperate to smile at Charles when he looks this adorable, but no. He was laughing at him not with him, so it’s a no no.

They were lying on the couch together in front of the TV, their legs intertwined under the blanket. Charles' hand was caressing Carlos' side, his head pillowed on his chest. From time to time Carlos could feel him drop a small kiss on his collarbone or any spot available to his lips.

It was nice, peaceful. Both of them appreciated evenings like these. All of a sudden, Carlos heard Charles snort and then giggle quietly. Curiously, he looked down at him.

"What's so funny?"

Any particularly strange/out-of-your-usual-wheelhouse fic ideas you PROBABLY won't write but still think about?

So many tbh! These days I don't have the time or the attention span to write anything too long, so any premise that lends itself to longfic I just end up spinning around and around in my mind forever instead of actually working on it. I have a couple WIPs for longer fics that probably won't ever be completed, but excluding those:

I've thought a lot about a few different Regency Era AUs (thanks to Bridgerton lol). One is a Maxiel one where Daniel is a high ranking noble (possibly a prince, maybe just a duke) but allergic to responsibility and spends a lot of his time boxing and gambling and engaging in other such unsavory pursuits, and Max is the more respectable friend that always ends up dragged into his scrapes, until one day Daniel's parents give him an ultimatum about straightening up, and he asks Max to pretend to be courting him to appease them. (Obviously this is an AU where being gay is accepted; we'll hand-wave it.) All the usual fake dating tropes would appear, but also it's an excuse for Darcy-style pining on Max's part and lots of scenes set in seedy, smoke-filled gambling dens and underground boxing rings, juxtaposed with fancy balls and banquets, etc.

And to give you a Ricrussell one! Similar thing, but Daniel is a rake and George is....George, and Daniel sets out to corrupt him. I picture George as maybe being kind of lower class and social climbing and all too aware of how important his reputation is, so he has to try to resist all these shenanigans Daniel tries to pull him into, because Daniel can get away with things he can't just because of his station. And then eventually Daniel takes things too far and does end up staining George's reputation, and then he has to work to make it right to earn back his trust (and affection).

I just love the idea of Regency AUs for this fandom for some reason, and there aren't enough of them!!

He thinks it's pretty dope! Q'ihnn's a little hobby boy and he's from Ul'dah, so he has a pretty solid experience with the Alchemist's Guild there already - but Thavnairian alchemy was on a whole different level for him, he really thought it was just the coolest thing to learn about while he was there!

19. Do you think your character would cope well under the scathing heat of the desert for a few weeks?

Honestly? He trusts Alchemy more. Mostly because he has a very limited ability to actually perform magic, he trusts it fine coming from other people but when he's doing it himself? yeah, alchemy.

🧐 Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

Lots of research on Austrian/Vienna dialect and word choice, bought (and partly read) a whole stack of books about how investigations work, etc. I've done a bit of research into queerness in Vienna in the 80s, but it's kinda hard to find historical information online. There is a lot still left to do, and some things I've been putting off tbh, mostly anything to do with the aids crisis, because the whole topic is so depressing and sad. So, yes, I spend a lot of time researching, mostly for a single story 😄

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

Oooh, hard choice. Definitely my Tatort Wien blorbos. I love writing all of them, but if I have to pick one of them, I guess it'll be Ernstl. (to absolutely no-one's surprise 😄) He is so easy to write, he'll just do anything. Hard-ass boss? He'll do that. Gay and hot and flirty? Sure! Touch-starved ace? No problem at all. Complete emotional wreck? Hell yeah! Snarky? Yup. Gentle and soft? Aw, definitely! Any combination of these? Yes, yes and yes. To be fair, even after almost 20 years we still don't know much about him, but how he's written in canon is mostly pretty consistent and Hubsi Kramar's acting choices give him a nice subtlety and a lot of expressions and stuff to work with or interpret. I just think he's a really interesting character, I love exploring who he is and what makes him tick and his relationships with the other characters.

So what are these minecraft life series? Is it a whoever lives the longest thing? or whoever builds the coolest stuff?

Hi!! I will try my best to answer concisely but I am very excited you asked so I might get a little carried away 😂

The life series is one series, though rather confusingly, it changes name every season. It’s semi-roleplay and when you see me talking about it I am talking entirely about the roleplay parts.

The premise of the first season - 3rd life - is that 14 people are living in a small world where they each have three lives. Once they die three times they are gone for good and out of the series. The catch is that people on their third life (“red names” ) are hostile towards people on their first and second life (“green names” and “yellow names”). The goal is to be the last person left alive.

Because of this 3rd life turned into a sort of battle royal where factions formed and an all-out war broke out. Iconic battles were fought, people got married, kings were crowned, and at the end a winner was found.

There has been three further seasons - the last of which is currently ongoing - working with that same basic concept. The same people are (usually) involved every season, playing the character they present across different minecraft series (there’s some canon implying they come back because some god-like beings forcing them to be in these deaths games).

In the second season - last life - they were given between two and six lives, and it introduced a curse that made green names and yellow names turn on each other for an episode. It gave it a sort of hidden role game aspect where players had to constantly question whether they trusted their allies not to turn in them under the curse.

The third season, double life, was, I kid you not, an honest to god soulmate au. Players were linked through a soulbond where they shared health and lives. It was such a wild ride. A little bit like if the characters in a romcom all wanted to murder each other and also they all lives on top of the home of a monster out of a horror movie.

Limited life is the current season. In this one they are all given exactly 24 hours to live. Dying makes them lose an hour, but killing others gives you time back. Whether you’re a green, yellow, or red life depends on how much time you have left. They also brought back the curse that makes you turn on others, and introduced a rule that yellow names are now allowed to turn on green names. This has naturally led to a lot of deaths this season.

What I love most about it is the fact that every character’s perspective of the fans is uploaded on the player’s individual youtube channels, making it a really unique way of telling a story. It uses the idea of every character being the main character of their own story and shows in a really fun way. You can watch from one character’s point of view and understand the story did the most part, but the more POVs you watch the more details of the story you’ll gain.

Or, knowing your interests, if you’re particularly interested in double life I recommend starting here with Pearl’s POV of that season.

Double life is definitely more fun if you’ve watched season 1 and 2 first, though, as it builds a lot on established character dynamics and history.

HOW do you learn mandarin & japanese at the same time without getting them confused? thats really cool

I've never had any major issues with getting them mixed up, but I'm sure that it differs from person to person, so don't take what any one person says as fact (including me)!

First of all, I was already relatively proficient in Japanese by the time I started learning Mandarin. Learning one language to a decent level before picking up another similar language typically helps in not getting them confused, but I also hate advice that says you should (or god forbid, Must) learn one language to a high level before picking up a similar language. If you want to start learning both Japanese and Chinese on the same day, I believe that it's doable without mixing them up too badly. But if you're really worried about it, it might help.

I also specifically chose to learn simplified (ie. Mainland China) characters over traditional, at least at first, in order to give myself visual differentiation between the two. Honestly, I find the structures and commonly used characters different enough that it doesn't really make a difference, but I made this decision before I knew any Chinese, so what are you gonna do.

I've seen some people who specify what days they study each language so that the days never overlap and they won't mix up their languages. I do the opposite. I don't know if it actually does anything, but I try training my brain into switching between languages. The most extreme example of this was when I was in college, one day a week I would have German class, then I would go to the library and study mandarin, take a break by reading in Japanese, then go to German club. I miss those days, and it's probably the only thing I'll ever miss from my days at university.

I also find studying Chinese while having at least some background in Japanese really interesting from an academic standpoint. I like seeing where the characters come from and it can actually make things a little bit easier for me (especially where cognates are concerned). I've never tried learning Latin, but I assume learning Latin while knowing English would be a similar feeling to learning Chinese while knowing Japanese.

Lastly, I think you're going to mix up your languages no matter what. Regardless of whether you're learning Japanese and Chinese or Japanese and Russian, you'll probably mix them up at least once. I usually would avoid saying ja or danke in my German classes because I had just come back from Japan and would automatically say はい and ありがとう instead. As I study both Japanese and Mandarin more and more, I notice that I'm mixing them up less and less. The brain is amazing in what it can do, so don't think that you can't learn a language because of what you're already learning (in fact, it might just help you more than it hinders you).

protagonist of the metanoia series (one day i'll finish revising the first draft of book 1 ^^;) [edit to add the revision tag link]

an elf woman without magic in a world full of it, always feeling out of place; like she didn't quite belong. her worst fears were confirmed ten years after she lost her homeland: according to the loom of the world, alinora was never meant to exist.

this anomaly means that, simply by existing, the goddess of fate cannot see her and those around her---meaning she is the only one who can stop fate from unweaving the tapestry of life itself.

alinora cares deeply for her people and those around her, though she would desperately like not to. she has deep-seated trust issues, after the way she lost her home, and does her best to keep people at a distance. she often comes off quite prickly as a result.

she's spent the last ten years hiding out among assassins, which has done nothing to help her trust issues OR ptsd. it has, however, sharpened her into a blade; something she is more than proud of.

ofc! i can't think about alinora without thinking about her older sister--mostly just in name, as the two were separated at 4 (alinora) and 12 (aishlynn) respectively. aishlynn mynerva is my darling girl who always tries to do the right thing... but often fails spectacularly.
