Multiple Words Monday

Thank you @thelordofgifs and @eilinelsghost for tagging me! This is from Psalm for the Strange, another bonus eldritch!Maglor story. Unlike the rest of the series, it leans much more into the cozy than horror elements. It focuses on a Maglor, Lindir and a few other bards entering a song competition in Valinor. Or, trying to. (Its also in Lindir's POV, which I have missed writing) Here's a little snippet of it:

“It - I mean, he can’t compete.”

“Why not?” asked Lindir.

I followed the instructions and filled out the form in advance, said Maglor. 

“It's not the form. It's that, well…” She looked like she wanted to hide under the table rather than talk to them. “It's against the rules for creatures like you to compete!”

“Oh really?” Lindir put his hands on his hips. “And where, exactly, in this rulebook of yours, does it say that ‘eldritch-creatures cannot compete in song competitions in Valinor?’ Because if it's not in there, then you must be making it up, and if you’re making it up then that’s extremely rude of you and honestly lowers my faith in your ability to judge this competition fairly.”

tagged by: @freylins thank you so much!!!! and please accept my sincerest apologies for taking so long, i had decided on a specific wip that was barely even a wip at that point, but i'm too stubborn to change my mind so. hey. here we are.

tagging: i've seen most writers i know do this + i don't have that many writer pals, so instead take this is a plead to befriend

this is the angry kisses wip which turned into the angst wip and has been on my mind for WEEKS

He knew it wasn't exactly fair, Arthur had been nothing if not understanding, but Merlin just couldn't help himself. It would've been easier, he thought, if things had gone the way he expected. Having to persuade Arthur of the good that magic can do, showing him that he only ever wanted to help - if their countless conversations were anything to go by, he knew the prince would only need to be convinced so much, his kindness had already taken him far enough. Looking back on it now, perhaps Merlin should've seen this coming - mistrust over acceptance - but even then, Arthur had taken his words, his explanations and quickly learned to live with them. What he couldn't have predicted was that he'd be the one pulling away. There was a heaviness in his chest every time he thought about Arthur's eyes at that moment, as he wondered out loud about the trust between them. An ache in Merlin's chest kept reminding him of the promises he aimed to keep. He believed in Arthur, more than he ever expected to, and not having to keep this from him any longer allowed him to breathe just a little easier - but how does one let go of something he thought was safe? He never cared much for his own skin, never cared much about being the one staring into the brightness of written fate, but dragging the other, pulling Arthur closer to that same light, did knowledge and trust outweigh the danger and the burden? Keeping that part of himself hidden had become like second nature to Merlin, so even beyond everything else, letting Arthur in had proven to be difficult. In some ways, he did want to show Arthur, wanted to share, have Arthur know him completely, but there was another part of him, one with a louder voice, one that bargained for him to stay the same. There was something familiar in the way Arthur knew him, something easy in the way he recognised him, the way he looked at him, the way they were with each other - Merlin didn't know if he could bear it changing.

this is definitely cheating, because it isn't 17 sentences, but also i'm incapable of writing short sentences so i'm thinking it balances out

I actually have quite a few wips rn which is surprising for me, but this is a little snippet from my latest one.

The door clicks shut behind her, the soft hum of electronics quieting down as she leans back against it, a soft sigh escaping her breath. Tired, so tired, weeks worth of change is bottled up inside of her. So much is different than just a month before.

"KELLICK!" A loud crash echoes into the back room, as a cloud of dust rushes in. What has he gotten himself into this time?

Mumbles of pain mix with bursts of laughter as she tentatively peaks into the next room, where she finds Kellick laid out on the floor covered in yellow paint, and his crest firmly wedged between the slats of a ladder.

Ok, I see why Lunette is laughing now.

tea, coffee, or soda? tea, definitely tea, I drink tea for breakfast (earl grey), after lunch (green-teen with mint or jasmine), at five o'clock (black tea) and then before going to bed (herbal tea), so almost during the all day. But I like coffee so I drink some from time to times and I hate soda.

dogs or cats? Dogs. I like cats a lot but I feel closer to dogs. I hope that, one day, I will have a dog with whom i can go hiking and who will also become a friend for my disable little brother and for my horse.

can you play an instrument? I can't but I can sing. I have practiced opera singing since I'm a child.

what’s your sign? pisces and I really really fit into the pisces type

do you have any tattoos? no

favourite place you’ve travelled? Siena. I traveled there as a child and the last night of our stay, we saw a firework just about the duomo and the old city and it is one of my most beautiful childhood memories. The city is just gorgeous and I have a special interest and taste for trecento and quattrocento sienese art. However I also have to mention Rome because I traveled there more than ten times and still want to return there and then to come back another time and another one... it's impossible to get bored of Rome. I also have a soft spot for Budapest, Vienna, and of course for Krakow.

what’s the last movie you’ve watched? Les amants timides, it's the film of a theater play from Carlo Goldoni

do you have any hobbies? I have too many for my own good ! I love reading (mostly classical literature and books about art), singing and listening to music, hiking, drawing (even if I'm so bad at it), sewing, gardening, cooking (I can make some really nice cakes hehehe), photography, theater, horse-riding, swimming, watching sports (football, tennis, f1 and cycling mainly) and I started to take a karate class this year (surprisingly I appear to be relatively good at that).

what languages do you speak? French, English (but not as well as I would like), a bit of Spanish that I learned at school and forgot afterward. I understand Italian quite well and I can make a few easy sentences. I also understand a bit of german and polish (mostly just words here and there)

you can hang out with one fictional character for an hour, who do you choose? This is so HARD !!! If I want to have a good time and just enjoy the moment probably signor Benedict or Lord Goring but for a more serious type of conversation Virgile (not the historical character) but the one described by Dante

On the morning of the second day, two familiar faces show up to escort her and Pelagos the rest of the way to Devotion.

When Pallessa alights in front of them, Liila almost forgets her aches altogether as she darts forward to catch Pallessa’s hands in excitement. “You got your wings!”

Pallessa’s smile is radiant as she nods and hops back enough to do a small twirl without hitting Liila with her wings. As she twirls, Achillon lands beside Liila, beaming as he watches his soulbind and soulmate. “We redid our final rite,” he says, motioning to Pallessa and then to his own wings. “This time, we earned our wings together.”

WIP Not Wednesday

Here is a bit from my Seven Flowers for Seven Sons WIP, in which involves: Mahtan and Nerdanel and a mysterious silver-haired elf-lady visitor, healing through gardening, a million flower descriptions, Yavanna meddling with her husband's ex-student, lots of grief and rebuilding fractured relationships, and love.

Feanor looked at the cottage, at the barren, scarred land that surrounded it. “This is to be my place of exile, then?”

Yavanna laughed. “Such dramatics! Yes, oh poor Prince, this is to be where you will live until your task is complete. Whether it stays like this or blooms into something else is up to you. But do not fear, you will not be alone forever. There are certain visitors we will allow you, those who have volunteered to help with this task.” 

“I see.” Feanor rolled up his sleeves. “I will take my leave of you now, Lady Yavanna. The sooner I begin, the sooner this will be done.” And then I can find a better task for my second life.

“True,” said Yavana, still laughing at him. “But a garden is not a simple thing, nor will it be rushed. Not that I expect you to listen to me. You’ll learn better through your own mistakes than my warnings. You always have.”

Currently reading: Finally going through Fire punch and it is... interesting. to say the least. Once i get through it ill start on csm part2 proper

Favorite color: if i had to choose one i think gold is excellent as an accent color, ill use it more often than not when making a character for whatever reason, usually as jewelry or eye color.

Last song: Wisdom of Rage by Waveshaper (Furi is such a good game)

Last movie: Saw the new Avatar movie with my dad around christmas time, it was alright, pretty to look at if nothing else but not particularly memorable

Currently working on: Wish i had a good answer for this, as far as life goes ive been sort of stagnant lately and i hate it, i always feel so aimless when im not working toward anything, even casually. dunno what my next goal will be but i need to figure it out soon. As far as online stuff goes my little friend group is on much less due to a couple of the guys having kids and getting married and  other irl stuff, im very happy for them but it leaves me with a lot of idle time. I suppose right now im looking to find a D&D group, never played but it looks like a lot of fun. Video games are a bit dull recently too in my opinion, finished the msq of ffxiv and i never got too into raiding so my go to game is sort of on the back burner.

My friends- I'm grateful for the friends I've stayed connected with over the years as well as new ones made. I get somewhat shy and not easy to come out of my shell, but appreciate their patience for me in that. There are a few I miss dearly that I haven't been able to see since before covid though hopefully sometime soon!

Better job recently - It was tough to leave a job I'd been comfortable in so long, but I let myself get too far of a point where the stress and burnout was taking a toll. It was 100% worth leaving and lesson learned! The new place has its ups and downs ofc, but less stress and vibing with everyone much better here.

Writing/RP - I wouldn't say I'm the best at either, but have enjoyed the hobby for many yrs regardless! Although it's great to do so for FFXIV now, I used to with Vampire the Masquerade and kinda miss that world/setting at times. I still appreciate it for giving me the inspo for Hemlocke and Seiro either way. Love all the chaotic gremlins <3

Cosplay/Sewing - I don't do as much as before, but I still enjoy it now and then. A lot of good memories of doing so with friends over the years :D.

Self improvement - I've been working to try to go easier on myself and focus on just living life one day at a time. I would always beat myself up with 'should have' types of statements, but at this point I think I'm doing the best with what I have and keep striving to work to where I want to be in life.
