Heads Up Seven Up
Rules: write the last seven lines you wrote and then tag seven people.
I was tagged by @aohendo and and I’ve written a whole chapter prologue today, so perfect timing!
Three sets of eyes track their progress, watching until the lift doors close and obscure them from sight. The three watchers share a look and then silently return to their work, relieved that it had all gone to plan. Excited that this was only the beginning. Satisfied that the mother had not noticed anything amiss.
Like the way the child hadn’t responded to their name at first, or the faint circle of white that now ringed their pupils. Or the fluid way in which they moved, with far more spatial and mental awareness than any child had a right to possess.
Or the fact that, all things considered…
… that wasn’t her child anymore at all.
Tagging: @zombiefaepunk, @writing-with-melon, @phantom-does-a-thing, @touchingmadness, @if-all-i-have-are-words, @crowandmoonwriting, @peepos-prose, & anyone else who wants to join in!

Thanks for the tag, @fearofahumanplanet! I’ll send this over to @athenixrose, @adayforducks, @smilingpaperbag, @emelkae, @jezifster and an open tag to anyone who’d like to participate!
“Strauv would remain whole,” Nazvili said, gently. “And I will not speak of your studies in Projection.”
He could always ditch the ‘Yphant na Suem’ identity. He would hate to—it’s all he had left of Dyrmos, his mentor—but he could. He could run. Strauv would die, though, or, more likely, Nazvili would restrain him for Projection, and then it wouldn’t be long before she realized the Headmaster of Cym used him for something far more devastating. Kiris scoffed. How would that be any different than what ‘L Tuola would do to him?
At least this way, he could keep Strauv safe.

Tagged by @muddshadow, thank you!
And the person – the child – does, unnoticed by their mother and unmissed by anyone who could have prevented their departure.

Never forget how much fun writing is. You get to make up little guys and other people will love the little guys (because of their stupid human pack bonding brains) and then you can do things to the guys and make readers feel things. You get to make up little mysteries and put them in and watch readers tear themselves apart puzzling it out, but you don’t have to go through that, you’re safe because you know. You already know all the answers and they don’t. You get to put a guy in a situation and surround him with mysteries and be like “hahaha everyone is going to HATE this.”
But they won’t leave. No. They’ll stay to see what happens to the guy and what the answers are. You can force them to think and feel things for YEARS.

I was tagged ages ago by @emelkae and I finally have something to share, so here we go.
All that matters are appearances, the illusion of hard work and the implication that anyone in a less fortunate position is there due to their own poor choices and lack of determination.

Btw if I say things like “by god” or “good lord” in posts please be aware I don’t mean it in a catholic way I mean it in a 1950s scientist reacting in horror after they create an evil creature in the lab set in the distant future year of 2005

Sometimes I want to write a fantasy epic with incredibly deep lore and meaning, other times I want to write a dystopian setting with a lot of uncomfortable truths. I also want to write a tragedy that will make people cry, and a romance that is so sweet that I'll give myself cavities. I want to write a story with no meaning or message at all, it's just chaos and fun, and a novel that explores the depths of humanity and the meaning of life. I want to write contemporary fiction and historical fiction and something that takes place in the future. I want to write mysteries, post-apocalyptic stories, thrillers, horror, urban fantasy and—

Plot tables: Mapping out and organizing all your plots and storylines
Tumblr media
Can’t organize your plot and are juggling between several plot lines? I got your back, I present: Plot tables!
(I’m probably not the only person to use these, but I have no idea if these are commonly used and I just don’t know about it or I actually did something with this)
Tumblr media
Here’s a loose example I threw together. It’s just a normal table where each column represents a different storyline within the same story. It shows you roughly what should happen in each chapter / scene.
e.g., from the example table, we see that in chapter / scene 1, there’s a chase scene where the police lose track of the criminal they’re following, as well as in the same chapter we see character B and C break up.
It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s something I want to share considering the amount of people I see complaining about juggling 50 million storylines and having no orderly way to keep track of it

i love the narrative of things only being discovered after they are lost. Character development that is so slow and subtle that it is only noticeable after they regress to their old ways. Trust between people so guarded that it can only be revealed in a betrayal scene. Love that is realised after parting forever. They didn't get to cherish it but they get to mourn the loss of it. There won't be a second time and they missed the first.
