[Book Review] Horrible Histories: Terrifying Tudors🛡
🧮Score: 4.6/5.0
Tumblr media
■ A brief yet impactful overview of the Tudors, uncensored history. The gruesome reality of the past is presented in a fun, creative and cheeky narrative. The flow is awesome! I enjoyed all the comical illustrations attached. No portion of this book can be boring.
■ At the end of each reign, there will always be quizzes. The answers give away more amazing trivia, if not mind-blown. By the end of the last “chapter”, you will sit for a set of exam questions that cover all bases on the Tudors. What is fun about these quizzes, apart from the way he phrases the questions and answers, is that the quiz will open with a different concept each time. But always, the motivation is, to challenge the teachers!
Tumblr media
■ There are many interesting quotes, agendas and highlighted events that provoke our critical thinking further. Always learn from history. We will be able to devise a better strategy in whatever our endeavour is going to be, inshaAllah.
Tumblr media
■ Full of dark senses of humour. The horrible histories of the cruelty of the rulers and “noble” men were indeed, Terrifying! Many forms of insertions are interjected between the passages. All of them have a definite purpose. For example, a short Shakespeare’s play titled Titus Andronicus was included. It was one of Queen Elizabeth I’s favourite pieces. How wonderfully horrible taste for entertainment, yeah?
Tumblr media
■ Although the book was meant to be an engaging introduction approach to history to children, I would not recommend it. Teenagers, maybe. But for young adults and grown-ups with young hearts, please, it is highly recommended! Excellent read!

I really want to do my end of year sappiness post right now so I am going to do it. This year. Which is why I have to first send my love to my Jewish Mutuals/Friends and to Jumblr - @cephalopodvictorious @captainlordauditor and just, every one of my Jewish Mutuals and people who have sent kind words. Tell me more about your BBC Ghosts character swap AU please?
(like I wanna know from you about the other BH ghosts you didn't draw in their character swap AU version yet on what their character swap would be, for example Thomas, Mary & Robin please?)
Thanks!
I'd be happy to!
Thomas is a caveman, tricked into a fight by his cousin (with less of the dramatics though, since Francis couldn't have forged a letter)  who either got stabbed with a spear or bonked on the head with a club. Regardless, he was killed and in death, gets to carry around a spear. It‘s big, cumbersome and annoying, and I just think it’s funny. He can give the living bruises with it.
To blabber on a bit: his name is actually To, but Julian thought that was stupid so renamed him Thomas, and he did originally come from Scotland. Though it wasn't called Scotland when he was there, obviously.
He struggles a lot with modern English - he’s lived through the rise and fall and change of so many languages that he really struggles to keep up. He slips between using new English and old English, French, old Brythonic languages etc, especially when he’s upset. That's what really kick-started his friendship with Patrick- Pat was the first one really willing to just stop and try to understand what Thomas was saying, and the first one to really sit down and help Thomas with his English. They have lessons every Thursday evening.
He still likes poetry, but because of all that he’s even worse at it. He also still hates Byron, just for less personal reasons.
With the whole having being around for thousands of years and watched people come and go, he's terrified of the other ghosts moving on without him. He doesn't like to sleep alone because of it, likes being able to keep an eye on at least one ghosts during the night. He tends to spend the night with Pat or Kitty, curled up on the foot of their beds, but he’ll stay with someone else now and then
Mary is a Girl Guide leader from the 80s. She's a timid woman to begin with, raised in a strict Catholic household, who works in a farm shop-come-cafe. She was encouraged to take up the Guide role by her husband to give her more confidence, and she stayed with it after his death. It didn't really make her more confident though, and her Guides quickly learned that they could walk all over her. She died while camping out on the Button grounds - some of the girls set a fire that quickly got out of control. Mary couldn't get out of her tent and died of asphyxiation (suspend your disbelief if you wouldn't mind). She still was close to Annie (and depending on how much you want to play around with the au, Annie could still be around, era switched with the plagues) and learned to be more confident through her.
She insists on doing grace at mealtimes, even though she can't eat, tells people off for blasphemy, and prays on Sundays in lieu of going to mass. The longer she's with the ghosts though, the less she does it. She has a few handy survival tools in her pockets, and like Pat, knows a thing or two about using a bow and arrow.
Robin is from the Georgian era, a nobleman's son who was sent to live with his uncle in hopes he'd straighten Robin out and turn him into a proper gentleman. Robin hated that idea. He planned to make a getaway and start a new life, one where he could just be himself, only to get struck by lightning before he ever made it off the grounds.
It's hard think of a Robin with ‘perfect’ speech, so I like to imagine he came over from North Wales, Welsh being his first language. He does speak English, albeit reluctantly, and has no desire to be fluent in it.
He's still outdoorsy and cares a lot about animals - his parents never had much time for him so he spent most of his time chasing around mice in the manor and sneaking into the stables to pet the horses. He can also still muck around with electricity.
I don't think I've talked about Julian either, but he's the headless Tudor. Much like in canon, he didn't pay much attention to his wife or child, which was ultimately his downfall when he unknowingly partied with people who were plotting to kill the queen and was damned by association. He got his head lobbed off, and the head can appear in photographs. He makes so many jokes about it.
I can't really think of much else to say at the moment but yeah, that's them

 𝐍𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 !
Trauma, like bad shit crazy trauma/j, angst, ofc
↳ Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Kathryn Howard, Catherine Parr
Tumblr media
Catherine of Aragon
☆ Mentally stable who
☆ Abandonment issues
☆ Completely believes the other queens will ditch her if she's not perfect enough
☆ Also generally fears being alone
☆ And any and all pains in her abdomen
☆ There's a common rule not to let any stomach virus reach her
☆ It got put in place after she got in a complete state of panic, believing she would die again.
☆ Can not be left in the house alone without her mind resorting to when she was imprisoned
☆ It terrifies her
Anne Boleyn
☆ The 'chaos gremlin' thing is a front
☆ She got killed for (among other things) being smart and standing her ground
☆ Continously afraid of doing or saying the wrong thing
☆ Corrected Aragon on something once, terrified to look her in the eyes for weeks
☆ Probably smartest person in the house, absolutely terrified of it
☆ Has spirals where she'll do anything the queens ask, her inobedience was another reason for her dearh
Jane Seymour
☆ Common hc, but terrified of illnesses
☆ Even the slightest headache will send her spiraling
☆ Similarly to Anne, has spirals where she'll do anything the queens ask
☆ But she'll be incredibly quiet and reserved, attempting to stay in their shadow
☆ She's extremely motherly, even if she's among the youngest
☆ She never got a chance
☆ Doesn't share om her opinion much, afraid it start a fight
Anna of Cleves
☆ Incredibly insecure
☆ She knows many people in history compliment her on her looks, but when a king says it
☆ Terrified of people sneaking up on her, even if it's any back hugs
☆ There's an unspoken rule to never even slightly startle her
☆ Incredible fear of storms too, surprisingly the reason the queens are all togheter during thunderstorms
☆ almost opposite to what the show well, shows. She's rather humble and timid. Never having any force to anything she says or does
Kathryn Howard
☆ The obvious
☆ terrified of men, to the point of having to physically stick to one of the other queens
☆ catches herself sexualizing herself
☆ Or sugarcoating her expierences, trying to make them seem fun and pleasureful instead of gruesome rape
☆ Is the youngest, does not enjoy it
☆ Always feels like she has to prove she's a well capable adult, she's 19 for god's sake
☆ The thought of even trying a relationship with anyone terrifies her
☆ Most of her memories are painful blurs to her
Catherine Parr
☆ Very similair to Jane, actually.
☆ Terrified of illnesses as well, will also spiral at the slightest headache
☆ Keeps to themselves a lot, their opinion almost had them lose their head.
☆ Apologizes to Anne almost everyday, even if they had no idea what they were doing at the time
☆ Is technically part of mom club(tm), Never got to actually be a mom to their (bio) daughter. Deals with it differently from Jane, has trouble actually being motherly
☆ Terrified of the others keeping secrets from them, or not saying anything when their being annoying or anything

What the roles for each member be if Monty Python & Co were instead a group of little baby-looking 10 year kids in a kids-only comedy club which takes place in their treehouse somewhere in the woods in the 1950s:
Graham- Willowy, sensitive boy who acts way older than he is. Likes to eat leaves and talk to ladybirds.
John- Leader of friend group. Thinks he controls ants and has a sulking bush which he shares with Jonesy. Swears he has a girlfriend.
Carol- The ‘girl’ member. Refuses to be the mum when playing house and wears a Princess dress when making mud pies (the boys are terrified of her)
Terry- Feral, feral child. Likes to climb trees, only to cry when he can’t come down. Thinks farts are funny.
Eric- Mischievous little bugger who teaches swear words to the other baby Pythons. Definitely peeks on his friends’ sisters changing.
Neil- Can play Mary Had A Little Lamb on the piano and is extremely proud of it. Will start again if he thinks you’re not listening.
Jonesy- Squabbles over leadership with John. Falls over everything. You don’t like history facts? TOO BAD. He got a Tudor book for Christmas and he takes it everywhere with him.
Michael- Good, ickle church boy who was told by his mum he wasn’t allowed to hang out with those nasty children down the street. He does anyway because he’s a little shit.

It took Frankie a minute to realise what had woken her up. She sat on the edge of the bed, listening intently, trying to figure out what the sound was.
She nudged Maggie awake, "I think someone's hurt."
"What?" asked Maggie, rubbing her eyes.
"Listen."
Tumblr media
The two of them listened carefully and could discern a mix of groaning, crying and screaming.
Maggie's eyes widened, "You're right. I think someone's hurt too."
"We should go investigate," suggested Frankie.
"No - we're not allowed to leave our room without a chaperone. Mama won't be pleased."
"What if it's mama who's hurt? We need to go help!"
Maggie thought it over, "you're right. We should see if anyone needs help. But let's be careful - in case whatever has caused the hurt could hurt us too."
Frankie nodded, smiling. Even with the seriousness of the situation, she couldn't help but be excited by the prospect of an adventure.
Tumblr media
The girls wandered the corridors in the direction of the noise. They passed by their mama's room and Lady Mary's, and still the noise was ahead of them. Maggie gasped, "I think it's coming from Peggy's room!"
Now distraught, the two girls ran for the room. Just outside the room was Lord Thomas, covered in blood. The screams were very loud now, and the combination of the noise and the sight terrified both girls.
"My... my lord? Are you... alive?" asked Frankie.
Tumblr media
He raised his head, frowning, "What are you doing up, little girls?"
"We heard a noise. We thought someone was hurt. We came to help," explained Maggie quickly, worried that they were about to be in trouble.
"Someone is hurt, but you cannot help. None of us can. We can only wait," Lord Thomas replied.
The girls looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
"You should go to your mama," Thomas added, lowering his head back down. "You shouldn't be alone tonight."
The girls looked at each other once more before turning to run for their mother's room.
Tumblr media
The girls played rock, paper, scissors to decide who would be the one to knock on their mama's door and tell her why they were out of bed. Frankie lost the game and reluctantly knocked.
"Girls! What on earth is going on?" asked Lady Catherine, shocked at the sight of her daughters. As if to answer her question, another scream could be heard from the direction of Lady Margaret's room. Frankie explained what they had heard, and the sight of Lord Thomas covered in blood.
"I think he's killed Lady Margaret!" exclaimed Frankie.
"Don't be so ridiculous," replied Catherine. "Come into my room. I will go and see what has happened. Do not leave until I have returned."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The girls sat in near silence as they waited. Both were exhausted, but neither for a second considered sleeping.

Where is the country-destroying migrant surge that was supposed to come after Title 42 ended? Why has no one taken your guns? Why isn't Hillary Clinton locked up? So many questions.
By Rex Huppke
Last I checked, there are approximately 3,756 Republicans running for the GOP presidential nomination, and the vast majority of them – particularly the Donalds Trump and the Rons DeSantis of the world – want voters to know they should be terrified.
Terrified of what, you ask? Oh, I dunno. Socialism. Marxism. “Radical” teachers. Mickey Mouse. Drag queens. “Others.” Pretty much everything, it seems. All the fears. (I’d add spiders to that list, but that’s just me, a liberal scaredy cat.)
Fearmongering is a tried-and-true Republican Party tradition and with the 2024 election cycle about to kick into full gear, it’s mongering season.
REPUBLICAN FEARMONGERING, AND SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY FEARS ARE NEVER REALIZED
So I have a suggestion for GOP voters, from the MAGA loyalists to the (three remaining) moderates to everyone in between. The first GOP presidential debate will be Aug. 23 in Milwaukee. At that event, you should demand answers to the following fear-related questions:
Why is “her” – the Hillary Clinton character in the “Lock her up!” chant – not locked up? Former President Donald Trump was supposed to do that, yet “her” walks free.
Why haven't we been literally invaded by umpteen South American migrant caravans?
Where is the country-destroying migrant surge that was supposed to come after Title 42 ended?
Why aren’t there violent MS-13 gang members on every street corner?
Why haven't the tyrannical Democrats taken our guns?
Why hasn’t Obamacare been repealed?
Where is the GOP health care plan? (Coming in two weeks, I’m sure of it!)
Why, with godless, devious Democrat Joe Biden as President, are Americans still allowed to say “Merry Christmas”?
Why did the COVID-19 vaccines work? Why did they not contain tracking chips that allow the government to monitor us?
Why has the economy not collapsed and why has the American way of life not been destroyed?
Why is there not, as Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon promised in 2022 before not becoming Governor, “a drag queen in every classroom, indoctrinating our children”?
Why haven’t drag shows turned all Americans into drag queens?
YEARS OF FEAR, WITH SO FEW RESULTS – IT'S ALMOST AS IF THEY'RE MANIPULATING VOTERS
Why are America’s big cities not actually dystopian hellscapes?
Why is the murder rate declining when we’ve been told repeatedly that crime is spiraling out of control?
How come our children are able to watch Disney movies without turning gay?
Why are Americans still allowed to speak English?
Why are we still able to hold dear all the things we hold dear?
I WAS SPECIFICALLY PROMISED WIDESPREAD SOCIALISM. WHAT THE HECK?
Why has nobody come to confiscate our guns? We have actual buckets filled with guns in the basement and bullets everywhere and not a single damn Democrat has come to rip them from our hands, cold and dead or otherwise.
Why has virtually everything a Republican candidate or Fox News talking head ever said to instill fear in our hearts wound up being either total nonsense or, at best, an almost bizarre overexaggeration of a relatively minor issue?
Why has America not been transformed into a socialist wasteland?
Why, for the last time, do we still have all of our guns?
You deserve answers to these questions, my Republican friends. Because often, in this big and confusing world of ours, there are inescapable signs that suggest you’re being lied to.
Learning to spot them is an important life skill. Off you go.

The Fischer siblings were raised in Old Town Windenburg in a single parent household. The eldest sister Effie moved away for uni to follow her dreams of becoming an artist, but had to put those dreams on hold after the passing of their father. She couldn’t afford the large tudor style home they grew up in on her own, so Effie packed up her’s and the twin’s belongings and moved to a little home on the coast of Copperdale. Jakob and Lue are terrified of the transition from private school to public school, but after meeting some of their soon to be classmates at the pier over the summer they feel a little more confident about their first day at Copperdale High this week.

M and N for the ask game!
Oooo good questions! Thank you!
M - Name a character you'd like to have for a friend.
Oh dang, this is difficult. Death, definitely. Death and existentialism terrify me, and I think being friends with literal Death would help. Also, she likes apples, and I make a great apple cake, and she seems like a cool person to talk to.
Also Hob. Just because I wanna know about his 600 years of life. What was it like during the War of The Roses? Which Tudor Queen was your favourite? Did you go to Florence during the Renaissance? What was that like? Did you stay in England the whole time, or did you travel? What was the coolest change you've seen? Jesus I'd be so annoying with all the questions I'd wanna ask him.
Don't put a history nerd in the same room as an Immortal...
N - Name 3 things you wish you saw more of in your Main Fandom (or fandom of choice).
I've answered this in another ask, but I kept it specifically to Carry On. I'll go Sandman for this ask.
1) More Feral Dream. He is an Endless Eldritch Being capable of bending reality to his will. He holds the LITERAL collective consciousness in his hands. Make him fucking TERRIFYING, especially when he or his are wronged.
2) Morally Grey Hob. Hob's fuck ups and his struggle to always do the right thing is so important to his character in my opinion. He's constantly learning, and he's well aware that he isn't perfect. AU Hob is fine being a sweet puppy of a man, but Canon Hob is more grey. Also, I have a weakness for Magnificent Bastards, and I yearn for Hob to be one.
3) Coming out of left field, because this is A/B/O related, but have Hob be an Omega. But not your typical Omega. I saw a prompt (I forget from who...) where he kept being confused as an Alpha. I wanna see more fics play around with that. Break those typical A/B/O norms!
Ask me the things!

Herne the Hunter
Tumblr media
Source: Herne the Hunter on Craiyon
On this day in 1906, the ancient tree, Herne’s Oak was replanted in Windsor Park, Berkshire. According to legend, Herne was a skilled hunter who saved the life of King Henry VIII by placing himself between the monarch and a charging stag. Herne was made Henry’s chief huntsman as a reward, but jealous gossip ultimately led to the hero’s dismissal from the king’s service. A distraught Herne then killed himself. But his story did not end there. In death, Herne transformed in a giant stag-masked hunting god, and has haunted the woods of Windsor Park ever since, leading phantom hounds in a never-ending pursuit of spectral stags. Herne was believed to be real enough, appearing in Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor to terrify a drink-addled Falstaff. The unwary are advised to flee at the sight of Herne, whose bow has been known to seek human victims as well as the creatures of the forest.
Herne is almost certainly a Tudor memory of the Celtic god of the Underworld, the winter deity, stag-headed Cernunnos. The god’s manifestation, like that of Herne, is best avoided by mortals.

Getting very tired of freaks bringing up Margaret Beaufort to excuse Mannox, Dereham and Seymour.
It's ALWAYS Margaret they use. The fact there isn't anyone else they can name proves it wasn't normal.
Just because a thing happened doesn't mean everyone was fine with it. Kids get abused to this day, does this mean we allow paedophilia? No!
Edmund was going off to war, so the only explanation I have is that he was desperate to leave an heir in case he died. He did a terrible thing in wartime, evil and wrong, but not because it was a normal thing in society that he'd also do in peace times.
Margaret nearly died in childbirth and only had one kid because she was so damaged inside. You think, at a time when people want lots of children, they're gonna look at her and go "Hey, great idea!"
Margaret was terrified what would happen to Margaret Tudor when she married James in case he didn't "wait". Why she's panicking and why expect him to wait til she's older if sleeping with young girls is so normal?
Even if Tudors were okay with Margaret, that's as it's a man sleeping with his wife. That doesn't mean they cheer on Catherine Howard getting touched by a teacher and raped by her grandmother's servant, or Elizabeth groped by her uncle/stepfather/ guardian.
Wtf is wrong with some people? These pricks have got away with it for 500 years, and that's not enough for you?

Gloriana & Robin: An AU in which Elizabeth Tudor and Robert Dudley marry and Elizabeth gives birth to their first two children in Edwards reign - twins Anne and Arthur. They were followed by Robert, Henry, John and Cecily.
Looking down at their children Robert wondered if he would ever believe he was the father of the two most precious treasures of the world. His third treasure, their mother was smiling to match him.
“We cannot call him Henry but I thought perhaps Arthur, for my uncle”
They do not speak of the fact that this boy, their son, has changed their world and Englands from the moment of his birth. It is not the time to think of such things, not yet but it is there between them - an unspoken comfort and discomfort.
“Now that you have said it I find I cannot think of him as anything but’
‘Anne and Arthur’ says Elizabeth and it is the sweetest and most terrifying thing in the world to look upon them. Arthur is all his Tudor and York ancestors and Anne is all Boleyn but yet there is a kinship between them both. There will always be, Elizabeth vows. Her children will be like Robert and his siblings - they will be surrounded by love.

Texture used for Majima's jacket
Okay. This painting is pretty epic (In my opinion anyway).
I was trying something a little more ambitious with this piece and that's probably because Death is my favorite tarot card! It was a lot of fun to play with value and color theory with this one.
I'll write a little more about that on the Patreon post if you'd like to look at it. It's free to view and also has a high-res download available!
I also found a website that broke down the symbolism of the cards in a really comprehensive way and that was super helpful to understanding the meaning of the card. Here's the page with all of that info.
Interpretations are below the cut:
Death as a tarot card is not literally about death (not technically anyway). When it shows up in a reading, it's more likely indicating a spiritual or personal death-- an end of an era or period of your life as well as a transition to a new state of being.
Death is unavoidable regardless of whether you're ultra-rich, in deep poverty, or somewhere in between. It's so unavoidable that we refer to it as 'the circle of life'. People are born, they grow up, they pass away, and new people are born in their place.
The inevitability of death is usually scary to people who aren't quite ready to die yet. This is natural, as the idea of no longer existing in the way you were used to is a change that takes time to process.
The Death tarot card encourages you to embrace the change and view it as a rebirth, a second chance.
When it appears upright in a reading, Death usually signals that you're in a period of massive change. You might be shedding the parts of yourself that aren't beneficial anymore. You might have a new opportunity that completely changes the course of your life.
Regardless of the circumstances, the message of this card is that you're not going to be the same person you used to be. Rather than being scared and resistant to change, consider approaching the whole situation with curiosity. What parts of yourself do you feel no longer fit who you are (or who you believe yourself to be)? What opportunities have entered your life and what changes do they bring?
Reversed, we see someone who's resistant to the change that's so inevitable. Whenever I pull a reversed Death card, it always felt as if I was a zombie. Not capable of doing much more than shuffling around, stagnant and rotting and so clearly somewhere I didn't belong.
Never changing is unnatural and oftentimes brings more emotional distress than the circumstances you're scared of ever could. The inevitability of death as a concept drives home that the changes you're resisting are coming whether you want them to or not. Becoming receptive to them will oftentimes make the transition period smoother and quicker. Yes, discomfort might occur (in fact, discomfort is probable), but this discomfort is likely necessary to your development as a person.
In regards to Majima's arc in 0/ the rest of the games, my main idea was inspired by the 'Mad Dog' transformation.
While I was initially hesitant to include actively violent imagery (namely Mad Dog Majima seemingly trying to kill his Y0 self) since the original card has none, I ultimately chose to keep it since the original imagery in the Rider-Waite-Smith card is so initially terrifying.
Death is an unsettling card to look at and I believe that's the point. We're quick to view death as evil and malevolent when, upon closer inspection, you notice that the grim reaper-like figure has no weapons. He's simply carrying a flag with a Tudor rose on it (considered a symbol of peace after the prolonged War of the Roses).
I wanted to create imagery that was a similar level of unsettling, while still showing that there's not any malicious intent. After all, can you really call something murder when someone's just taking a part of their personality and hiding it away?
The Mad Dog persona is simply that: a mask. We see throughout the series that the Majima from Yakuza 0 is still there, he's just hidden behind a flamboyant, violent, shirtless persona who few are able to accurately read.
Majima's core personality is always there, but he isn't able to return to the person he was in Yakuza 0. He can't return to who he was before the '85 assassination, either.
The old Majima can't come to the phone right now. Why?
'Cause he's dead.
One of the main themes of Death's original card is the juxtaposition between those who resist death, and those who accept its inevitability. Compare the Bishop, who welcomes death with open arms to the king lies who dead in the mud, his crown having fallen. There's the impression that the king did not die peacefully, and likely was trying to evade his mortality. As such, he's not only stripped of his power and glory, but also of his ability to have a dignified death.
He chose to use his final moments on Earth to try and escape his fate, rather than making the most of his time alive and as such, he loses more than the Bishop once Death rides into town.
In my interpretation, I focused on Y0 Majima's inability to kill. While it's a good thing that he didn't kill an innocent woman, Majima created a situation where someone had to die.
Yet, he refused to decide who. This is an unfair thing to ask of anyone, especially when innocent lives are on the line, but Majima barrelled into this situation before completely thinking out what it meant to murder someone. He agreed to trade someone else's life for a spot back in the Tojo Clan.
And because of this, Lee and a woman who never asked to be involved end up being murdered in Makoto's place.
Majima doesn't have the ability to kill, but he isn't able to manufacture a situation where no one has to die, either. He's attempting to circumvent the consequences of his actions and in the end, he loses not only the lives of innocent people, but also his ability to remain himself.
Majima's Mad Dog persona, however, is able to keep the people he cares about safe (to some degree). His enemies are very, very rarely able to understand his actual motives and what he actually cares about and as such, attack targets that Majima is okay with losing: money, his own freedom, even his life at one point.
I wanted to include some of the human figures from the original card in mine as well. It's hard to tell in the actual painting, but the hand near the bottom left corner is Lee's and the figure hanging in the upper right corner is Saejima who's been executed for the '85 assassination.
Both Lee and Saejima represent the guilt Majima feels for his inadequacies. Who he was as a person wasn't enough to keep them from receiving all of the punishment for his actions (Majima didn't *necessarily* do anything wrong in either of these situations, but I'm talking more about his own feelings rather than reality). In a way, the Mad Dog persona is an attempt to atone-- a commitment to making sure what happened in the 80s doesn't happen again.
But for that to be possible, Majima has to kill his previous self and become something entirely new.
