The summer heat was becoming unbearable. Though, it wasn’t nearly as unbearable as your want for the counselor you’d had your eye on for the last two weeks. His name was Nick Goode, which was ironic as the many things you wanted him to do to you were nothing short of bad.
He was your counselor, but that’s a bit of an unfair title as you’re eighteen (as of two months ago) and more than capable of looking after yourself. He was only a year older than you. Since the first day, you’ve been hinting at your obvious crush on him, and all your advances had been cut short when another counselor would see you.
Nick had shown an interest in you as well, but he was too much of a gentleman to take it any further than a smile or an accidental touch of the hand on your arm. It wasn’t enough. You craved him and were infatuated with him to the point where you felt inferior to him.
It was expected for you to develop feelings for him, with his good manners and undeniably good looks. How could you not?
Unbeknownst to you, Nick thought you were the prettiest girl he had ever seen. You were a natural goddess in his eyes and he could only imagine what it would be like to touch you on a deeper level, instead of the rare brush of the arm.
Only problem was.. he was a golden boy and you were a shadysider.
You tended to be the bolder one out of the two of you, but secretly, every pick up line or flirtatious joke you said had your hands feeling sweaty when waiting for his response. He would always respond with remarks that matched your flirty smirks but that was all that came from it.
After all, he is your counselor.
But what others don’t know won’t hurt them, right?
-
It was around dinner time and while the campers and counselors alike all gathered in the dining area, you stayed back to help Nick clean up. He picked up all the paint brushes while you threw away the scrap pieces of paper. It was just the two of you, and that alone had your heart beating faster than normal, but you pushed away the insecure thoughts and leaned on the table he was cleaning.
“Are we ever going to talk about the thing going on between us?” You asked, tilting your head slightly, the corners of your lips turning up when he stopped his actions.
He didn’t look at you and stood still for a few seconds before continuing to wipe away at the wooden table. “What are you talking about?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” you say and casually move closer to him.
“I don’t think I do,” he replied, turning to look at you. “And even if I did, you know nothing can happen between us.”
You refrained from rolling your eyes. “Why not?”
“Because I’m a counselor,” he said, stepping away from you. “And because you’re a camper.”
Your ego felt attacked at the thought of him comparing you to a bunch of kids. “Please,” you scoffed, reaching over and running your fingers over his arm. “I’m eighteen. I don’t believe that you see me as a kid, especially since you’re only one year older than me.”
Nick froze at the feeling of your hand on him and he could feel the walls he built in an attempt to not fall for you crumbling down every second that passed. “It’d be wrong,”
When he went to pull away, you grabbed his hands and tugged him towards you. You were still leaning on the table when you placed his hands on your waist, your chests just inches away. “Does it feel wrong?”
Your words, unintentionally sexy, mixed with the feeling of you had the walls falling completely. Nick slowly stepped forward and allowed you to place your hands on his chest while his ran up your arms to rest on either side of your face.
You could feel your heart beating in your ears, your skin on fire as you looked up at him. “Kiss me,” you murmured, straining your neck to move your face closer to his. At his conflicted expression, you moved your hands up to grip his shoulders. “Please.”
At that, Nick leaned down and closed the gap between you, pressing his lips to yours in a surprisingly passionate yet desperate kiss. Your hands immediately traveled to his face, bringing him down so he was closer to your height. It wasn’t surprising that the kiss got heated really fast, this was something you both had wanted since the day you met.
Nick’s hands fell from your face and landed on your hips once again and he tugged you up, making you sit on the wooden surface of the table. With him now situated between your legs, you tugged on the collar of his shirt so he was as close as he could possibly be.
His hands moved to wrap your legs around his waist and you moaned at the feeling, all while keeping your lips pressed to his.
You weren’t a virgin, and from the way Nick had his hands all over you, you could tell he wasn’t one either, but you still felt like this was the first time you’d had a man’s hands on your body. You felt high and the kiss was beginning to take your breath away.
You pulled back and let out a deep breath as Nick’s lips moved to your neck, pressing kisses all along it until he got to your shoulders. You tilted your head to the side to give him more access while gripping his jaw and face, breathy moans flying from your mouth.
You had a feeling that Nick would take you right then and there, but the sound of his brother’s voice calling his name had him pulling away from his attack on your neck. You held your breath while Nick stood completely still, and after a few seconds of silence you both wondered if you had imagined it.
“Nick,” his brother called again. “Where are you?”
Nick immediately stepped away from you and created a good amount of space. You hopped off the table and quickly grabbed a cup that was full of water from the paint and threw it on the floor. Nick looked at you in confusion for a second as you shoved an old towel in his hands.
“Nick,” Will opened the door and his brows furrowed at the sight. A puddle had formed where you dumped the water and you watched as his eyes flicked between you and Nick. “You missed dinner.”
  “I know, I’m sorry, I was just-”
“I accidentally spilled water when we were cleaning up and Nick was just helping me,” you gestured to the towel in his hands and that’s when Nick had finally caught on.
Will looked between you and Nick a few times then finally down at the water. “I see that,” he said. “Just make sure it doesn’t ruin the floor.”
After that he walked out, the door slamming closed behind him and you hear Nick let out a breath of relief. You looked up at him, a smile beginning to form on your lips as Nick dropped the towel onto the floor, letting it soak up the water.
  “That was close,”
“Too close,” he said but the tone in his voice told you that he didn’t regret it.
The water was forgotten as Nick moved closer to you, his hand reaching up to caress the side of your face. Your fingers wrap around his wrist as you gaze up at him, waiting for any sign of confirmation that he wanted this as bad as you did.
A few seconds pass before he strokes his thumb across your cheek bone. “No one can find out,” he said and your smile grows until it’s a full on grin.
“No one will,” you promise before leaning up on your toes to kiss him again. He kisses you back, though not with as much force as before, then pulls away to rest his forehead against yours.
“I’m so fucked,” he said and you laugh, grabbing the sides of his face and pulling him in for your third kiss of the night.
-
It was the day of the color war and to say you weren’t excited would be an understatement. Running around with a bunch of kids and playing a game that labeled you as the inferior color was not something you felt like doing at all.
You hid behind a cabin as a few Sunnyvale kids ran around with the counselors. You glanced around the area, keeping an eye out for a specific one.
It had been a month since you and Nick kissed. A few days later he was officially your boyfriend, your secret boyfriend, actually, and you were his secret girlfriend.
You kept it low-key for two reasons, one being the fact that you’re from Shadyside and Nick is from Sunnyvale, and two being the fact that you’re a camper and Nick’s a counselor.
Neither of you minded much, but it made seeing each other a lot harder.
As you hid, a smile formed on your face when your eyes caught sight of the brown haired boy you called your boyfriend (secretly, of course). He was participating, barely, but you knew that this was the last thing he wanted to do, as he had told you that the color war games were his least favorite activities.
You wait a few more seconds, ensuring no one would see you, before you lunge forward and wrap your hand around his wrist, pulling him so he was in the space between the two cabins. Nick’s hands immediately find your waist while yours rest on either side of his face. You share a brief, yet extremely intimate look, before Nick leans forward and closes the gap, pressing his lips to yours.
It was something you both had been deprived of for the last few days, both of you seemingly unable to find a good time to meet up.
It was clear that each other’s touch was what fueled your cravings for one another as Nick’s hands moved up to either side of your head, pressing into you and making your back hit the harsh exterior of the wooden cabin. It scratched against the bare skin peeking out of your grey tank top but you couldn’t care less. You missed your boyfriend too much to mind the few splinters you might have to pull out later.
“I missed you,” he muttered against your lips.
“I missed you, too,” you say back and he presses his lips to yours once again. Your hands move to tug at his hair, raking your fingers through it before pulling.
He groans against your mouth before pulling away, his hands moving to grip your waist once more. “I can’t go that long without seeing you again,”
It had only been just under six days since you had the opportunity to sneak off like this, but the truth was that you both had become obsessed with each other in the month you’ve been seeing each other.
So, naturally, you couldn’t help but nod your head in agreement. “I can’t, either,” you say quietly, aware that there may be campers lurking nearby. “I’ve wanted you for days now.”
Nick’s ears perk up at that and he gives you a sly smirk, running his hands over the newly exposed skin due to him pulling up your top slightly. “Sexually?” His shyness had dissolved the last few weeks and he was completely content with being himself around you, hence the word that left his mouth.
You hadn’t gotten to the point of actually sleeping together yet, just heated make out sessions when you could, and to say you were hot for him was an understatement.
He had meant it as a joke so when you nodded and dropped one of your hands to the button of his pants, pressing your fingers to his clothed crotch, Nick’s breath hitched and he felt the blood rush down his body. “I want you so much,” you say and it fuels Nick’s libido to no end.
Gathering some self control, he pulls away slightly, his hands gripping your upper arms. “Are you sure?”
“When are we going to get another chance like this one before summer ends?” You ask, resting your hands on his chest. “You know how much I’ve wanted you, since the day we met.”
Nick looks around, making sure no one was around to witness a Shadysider and Sunnyvaler hooking up. “Not here,”
“Okay,” you reply immediately. “But it turns me on to think about someone catching you with your dick inside me-”
Nick cuts you off by grabbing your hand and tugging you to his cabin. With Nick seemingly too far gone, you took it upon yourself to repeatedly glance around to avoid anyone seeing you.
To outsiders, it looked like Nick was beyond pissed off with you and was dragging you off somewhere to rip you a new one, but the angry look on his face was actually sexual frustration mixed with an undeniable want for the girl he was borderline in love with.
You made it to the cabin with no one around to see you, thankfully, and Nick quickly pushed you inside, locking the door behind him. You didn’t get the chance to explore his room before he pulled you over to his bed, gently pushing you down onto it. He hovered over you and pressed his lips to yours, his elbow moving to the left side of your face to hold himself up while his other hand wasted no time in groping your tank top covered chest.
You were right, when was there going to be another opportunity like this one? He couldn’t even bring himself to feel guilty that he was skipping out on his duties to bury himself in you, but how could he resist his sweet, horny girlfriend when he felt the exact same way she did?
Seeing as the time was extremely limited, he leaned back on his knees to rid himself of his red and white shirt. Your hands fumbled with your own flimsy top as you took it off and dropped it beside the messily made bed.
Boys will be boys.
Within seconds he was back on top of you, his lips kissing every newly exposed part of you he could. Even with the time limit, he couldn’t help but suck a rather large hickey on the top of your right breast, a place only you and him would be able to see it.
Your hands tangle in his hair as his fingers unzip your shorts and slide them off your legs, adding them to the growing pile of clothing on the floor. He would take his time and appreciate your body like he knew it deserved, but he couldn’t risk someone walking in and ruining the rare chance he had to see you like this.
He’d have to worship your body another time.
Instead, he murmured a praise against your neck, “Fuck, you’re so fucking beautiful,”
His words went straight to your core and you moaned, your hands gripping his biceps as he slipped your underwear off.
“Are you sure?” He asks once again. He was painfully hard and might actually break something if you were to back out, but he would allow you that choice no matter what.
  Thankfully, though, you just nodded.
“I’m sure, Nick,” you say and caress the sides of his face, bringing it down to yours. “I love you.”
The words caught him off guard and he pulled back to look over your entire face, searching for any sign that you could just be saying that to deepen the moment. He didn’t think anyone could fall in love with someone in a month, but here he was. When he laid in this very bed, by himself, he found himself wanting nothing more than to have you in his arms. When he sat with the rest of the kids from Sunnyvale, his heart ached whenever he saw you sitting with the glum and broody people that so didn’t deserve to have you next to them. He found himself falling completely in love with you with no way to stop it.
“I love you,” he said back once he saw no trace of insincerity on your face, just love, and lust, but mainly love. You leaned up and kissed him while he unzipped his pants, not bothering to pull them down past the point where he could relieve himself of the tight fabric.
Once he was free, he lined himself up with your entrance, his free hand coming up to brush away the few fallen strands of hair that covered your eyes. With a final kiss pressed to your lips, he enters you, both of you releasing a breathy moan.
You were, by far, the tightest girl Nick had ever been with, not that he had a long list of past relationships, and not that he would ever dare to compare you to anyone. You were so much more than the girls in his past, so much better in every way. The immediate attraction between the two of you was obvious and had you both developing feelings faster than expected.
As for you, you had no problem comparing Nick to the scumbags you’d let touch you in your past relationships. They weren’t small in any sense, but Nick was no doubt bigger in the best possible ways. He had a hell of a bigger heart than your previous lovers, a better and brighter personality and he definitely didn’t disappoint in the size category. In fact, you were sure Nick was stretching you out so much that you feared for a second that he’d break you, not that you’d complain.
Nick stilled inside you for a brief second, letting you get familiar with his size, before he pulled out half way. He slipped himself back in at a pace that had your eyes rolling to the back of your skull, your hands gripping his shoulders with everything you had.
There was no doubt in your mind that if you were to be spoiled with this a few more times down the road of your relationship, he would ruin you for other guys. He’d get you so fucked up for him that you wouldn’t dream of anyone else getting you off, and not in the way he could. Not that you’d ever want to have anyone else like this after Nick. You were down bad and you couldn’t bring yourself to care about the consequences that would no doubt come with dating the golden boy from Sunnyvale.
Nick, however, was sick of the unwanted title. He was tired of trying to live up to it and be the guy who could do no wrong, and maybe that’s what made this moment so surreal to him. Nick Goode, future Police Chief, currently burying himself to the brim in a shadysider when he should be participating in the degrading color game going on outside.
But, as Nick sets a steady rhythm, he knew he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else than with the girl he loved.
It felt as if he was saying a massive fuck you to all the people who looked up to him for things he really didn’t want to be part of.
Your legs eventually wrapped around his waist that was still covered by his pants, tightening when he delivered a particularly rough thrust into you. Your chests were pressed completely together with no space in between and Nick leaned down to suck another love bite onto your shoulder. It would be visible if you wore the tank top currently on the floor, so you’d have to remember to switch to a t-shirt after this to hide it. Nick couldn’t help but mark you as his, making you purple in spots that could be visible to everyone with a slip of your shirt. It was the only way he could show that you were taken and that no one had any business trying to get with you when it was him that got to see you like this.
You tried your best to quiet your moans, your whimpers being the only sound in the room. Nick had his face pressed to your neck, his low groans being lost to your skin. You knew you had to be quiet, for the sake of your relationship, but you felt the urge to make him feel as good as he possibly could.
So, you gently pressed against him and flipped him around so his head was against the single pillow with you now situated on top of him. Nick’s hands found your waist while yours rested on his chest, your nails lightly digging into his clear and spotless skin when you began to move your hips.
Your plan to get him to be loud seemed to work as he now had nothing to hide his face in so his moans sounded through the empty room. Satisfied, you lift your hips and drop back down onto him, feeling him stretch even deeper into you. You let out a loud moan at the feeling, surprised you were able to take all of him, let alone take him to the deepest part of you.
One of Nick’s hands left your hips to wrap around one of your wrists, his lips pressing kisses to your forearm. “Fuck,” you whimper at the feeling of him inside you and the kisses he was placing on you. How was this boy even real? And how did you manage to have him all to yourself?
Nick must’ve been thinking similar thoughts as he let go of your hand, allowing it to grip his shoulder while his thumb moved up to pull at your lower lip. “Fuck, you’re so fucking hot,” he muttered, watching the way you nearly squealed in ecstasy when he lifted his hips to fuck into you. “God, look at you. So pretty.”
His words of praise sent heat waves down your body and you let your head fall back, throaty groans leaving you as your pace picked up. Testing something new, Nick dropped his thumb from your lip and wrapped his fingers around your throat, applying the faintest amount of pressure.
Your eyes widen at the new feeling and your hips rocked even faster, moans freely leaving your mouth. It was clear that neither of you cared about your increasing volume at this point. In fact, Nick was sure he wouldn’t mind someone coming in to see you on top of him, riding him until you both had nothing left to give.
That would really demolish the golden boy status and Nick felt like coming at the thought of you helping him ruin his unwanted reputation. You and him, proving to everyone that he wasn’t what they thought, not in the slightest. If he was what they wanted him to be, he wouldn’t be currently getting fucked by someone considered inferior to him, even though he knew you were better than those people could ever be. You actually saw him for who he was. You knew him and that was all that mattered. All he needed was his sweet and incredibly hot girlfriend to feel like he was truly himself. You were what was missing in his life up to the point of him meeting you, he was sure.
The thought of you, the only girl he’s ever let himself love, tainting his reputation beyond repair had him moaning loudly, his hand falling from your throat to grab your waist once again.
He couldn’t believe how lucky he had gotten with you. Not only did he find someone who didn’t give a shit about who he was supposed to be, but he found someone who helped bring out the real him. He was in love with you.
Nick felt like he was on cloud nine and he had no problem with never coming down. If this was the way you made him feel, he knew he wanted you forever.
“You’re taking me so well,” he groaned, sitting up with one hand behind him, holding him up. His other hand stayed on your waist, assisting you in bouncing yourself on him. You straddled him, your hands coming up to grip the sides of his face while your chest brushed his with every bounce of your body. One of the straps of your bra fell off your shoulder, exposing your chest to him even more and his hand moved up to tug the strap down your arm, fully exposing your full chest to him, despite your other bra strap still hugging your shoulder. “Fuck, you’re so hot. You look so pretty riding me, so pretty stuffing yourself with me. I love you.”
“I love you,” you could only whisper back, your throat beginning to become sore from your increasingly loud moans mixed with the faint fingerprints that littered your neck. “I want this forever, want you forever. Fuck, you feel so good.”
It was as if you had read his exact thoughts and it had him breaking out in a large grin, kissing you quickly. “You’re mine, now,” he said, kissing your collarbone while the hand that wasn't gripping your waist came up to tug and pinch your nipple. “Mine forever.”
At this promise, you sped up the movements of your hips, fucking onto him with the last remaining energy you had. You felt yourself getting closer to the point of no return and you wanted nothing more than to let go around him.
Your hips began to shake beyond your control, and Nick stepped in to help keep the pace going by fucking up into you. “I’m close,” you mumbled against his lips, your eyes tearing up from how good you felt at that moment. “You’re so big, so deep. I’ve never felt this full before.”
Nick groaned at your praises, sloppily kissing your neck to prolong the inevitable.
The things you’ve said are completely new. You’ve never cared enough about your past relationships to feel the need to praise them in any way you could, but Nick was just too good at this to not be showered with them. The physical and emotional connection you felt with him ran so much deeper than both of you probably realized.
“Yeah?” He asked against your skin, his fingers no doubt creating bruises on your hips. “You should come for me, then.”
The way he said it both desperately and nonchalantly at the same time had your mouth opening while moans flew from it, your grip on his hair and shoulders becoming increasingly tight as you felt yourself explode around him.
You completely lost yourself, continuing to lazily bounce on Nick as he groaned against you. “Come in me,” you whimpered against his lips. Nick’s eyes widened at your request and he’s never felt more turned on than he did in that moment. “Paint me as yours, please, I want it so bad.”
Your pleas and the overall tightness from you had Nick reaching his climax, too, bucking up into you and painting your walls like you desperately asked him to. You whimpered at the feeling, this being the first time you ever allowed anyone to finish inside you, while Nicked moaned loudly, filling you with everything he had left to offer.
When he finished, the movement of your hips finally halted, your forehead resting against his as you both tried to catch your breath.
As you held each other, Nick once again questioned how in the hell he got so lucky. You were the first girl he ever got the pleasure of climaxing in and the thought that it could very well end in a pregnancy made his heart race. He made a mental note that one day, he’d put a baby in you. His baby. Something that only the two of you can share, that only belonged to you and him, but that’s a conversation for another time.
Both yours and Nick’s skin was sweaty, and his hair was messy and all over the place, a dead giveaway for what you had just done. You laughed to yourself as your hands came up to flatten out the messy strands, placing a final kiss to his forehead when you finished.
Nick’s breathing was staggered and uneven and he allowed himself to fall back onto the pillow, bringing you down with him.
You laughed then immediately let out a quiet moan at the feeling of him still inside you, your body beginning to feel sensitive the longer he stayed buried in you. You knew you’d have to release him eventually, but you both knew that meant you then had to separate and possibly spend days apart, so you kept him inside you for as long as you could.
With your chest pressed to his, you slid your arms up and under his pillow, creating a crevice for his head to rest in. You smiled at the satisfied look on his face and pecked his chin before resting your head on his shoulder. “You look so hot,” you murmured, your skin forming goosebumps when his fingers began to run up and down your back.
  “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you say quietly, bringing one of your hands down to run your fingers across his chest. “Just like this. So content and fucked out.”
Nick smirked, his arms wrapping around your form and his lips pressing to your head. “It’s because of you,”
You hummed, tilting your head up and allowing him to connect your lips. This kiss was long and sweet, no indication of it starting anything else. The best kind of kisses, in your opinion.
You pulled away and put your head on his chest, the faint sound of his heartbeat calming you. “We should get dressed soon,” Nick said, even though he really didn’t want to. But, he was a counselor after all and he had to make up for the lost time.
He didn’t regret this in the slightest, though. He’d much rather lay here with you than go back outside and pretend to be something he was so far from.
“I know,” you mumble, pressing one final and quick kiss to his lips before sitting up.
You finally allowed him to slip out of you, both of you wincing at the feeling, and stood up, redressing your lower half. You fixed your bra while Nick zipped his pants back up and threw his shirt back on.
With a glance at your reflection in the mirror on top of the dresser, your eyes widen at the purple mark on your shoulder. “Nick!”
At your loud call of his name, Nick quickly stood up and looked around for any sign of a possible threat before he realised there was none. “What?”
You turned to face him and pointed at the mark, watching as a smirk forms on his lips.
“Oh,” he says and walks over to you.
“People are going to see that when I put my shirt back on,” you whined, referring to the little coverage your tank top did for your shoulders.
“I’m sorry, baby, but I just couldn’t help myself. I need to show you’re taken somehow,”
You rolled your eyes as he gently pushed you to the side, opening the top drawer of the dresser. He grabbed one of his shirts and held it out to you.
You raised your brows, eyes on the piece of fabric. “I can’t wear your shirt,” you say. “People will know it’s not mine, and your brother will know it’s yours if he were to see me in it.”
“If anyone asks,” Nick starts, taking it upon himself to slip the shirt over your head. “Just say yours got ruined during the game and I offered you one of mine.”
With a weary glance at your boyfriend, you adjusted the shirt that fell to your mid thigh. You tucked the front of it into your shorts as Nick’s hands found their home on either side of your face.
“It will be fine,” he says and kisses your forehead. “I promise. Nothing bad will happen to you when I’m around.”
You nod and step forward, wrapping your arms around his middle while his wrap around your shoulders. You share a final hug, knowing that it’d be a while before you would be able to be back in his arms, something that both of you hated but had to cooperate with nonetheless.
One day you’d be with him everyday, living with him and just being with him in every sense possible. He’d make sure of it.

Nick/Ted’s “because I’m a counselor” has been permanently burned into my mind. It’s just so effortlessly hot

Donald Sutherland on President Snow
Dear Gary Ross:
Power. That's what this is about? Yes? Power and the forces that are manipulated by the powerful men and bureaucracies trying to maintain control and possession of that power?
Power perpetrates war and oppression to maintain itself until it finally topples over with the bureaucratic weight of itself and sinks into the pages of history (except in Texas), leaving lessons that need to be learned unlearned.
Power corrupts, and, in many cases, absolute power makes you really horny. Clinton, Chirac, Mao, Mitterrand.
Not so, I think, with Coriolanus Snow. His obsession, his passion, is his rose garden. There's a rose named Sterling Silver that's lilac in colour with the most extraordinarily powerful fragrance – incredibly beautiful – I loved it in the seventies when it first appeared. They've made a lot of off shoots of it since then.
I didn't want to write to you until I'd read the trilogy and now I have so: roses are of great importance. And Coriolanus's eyes. And his smile. Those three elements are vibrant and vital in Snow. Everything else is, by and large, perfectly still and ruthlessly contained. What delight she [Katniss] gives him. He knows her so perfectly. Nothing, absolutely nothing, surprises him. He sees and understands everything. he was, quite probably, a brilliant man who's succumbed to the siren song of power.
How will you dramatize the interior narrative running in Katniss's head that describes and consistently updates her relationship with the President who is ubiquitous in her mind? With omniscient calm he knows her perfectly. She knows he does and she knows that he will go to any necessary end to maintain his power because she knows that he believes that she's a real threat to his fragile hold on his control of that power. She's more dangerous than Joan of Arc.
Her interior dialogue/monologue defines Snow. It's that old theatrical turnip: you can't 'play' a king, you need everybody else on stage saying to each other, and therefore to the audience, stuff like "There goes the King, isn't he a piece of work, how evil, how lovely, how benevolent, how cruel, how brilliant he is!" The idea of him, the definition of him, the audience's perception of him, is primarily instilled by the observations of others and once that idea is set, the audience's view of the character is pretty much unyielding. And in Snow's case, that definition, of course, comes from Katniss.
Evil looks like our understanding of the history of the men we're looking at. It's not what we see: it's what we've been led to believe. Simple as that. Look at the face of Ted Bundy before you knew what he did and after you knew.
Snow doesn't look evil to the people in Panem's Capitol. Bundy didn't look evil to those girls. My wife and I were driving through Colorado when he escaped from jail there. The car radio's warning was constant. 'Don't pick up any young men. The escapee looks like the nicest young man imaginable'. Snow's evil shows up in the form of the complacently confident threat that's ever present in his eyes. His resolute stillness. Have you seen a film I did years ago? 'The Eye of the Needle'. That fellow had some of what I'm looking for.
The woman who lived up the street from us in Brentwood came over to ask my wife a question when my wife was dropping the kids off at school. This woman and her husband had seen that movie the night before and what she wanted to know was how my wife could live with anyone who could play such an evil man. It made for an amusing dinner or two but part of my wife's still wondering.
I'd love to speak with you whenever you have a chance so I can be on the same page with you.
They all end up the same way. Welcome to Florida, have a nice day!

Marko/The Lost Boys imagine~
Thanks to the anon who requested this! x It’s more of an Alex imagine just how you wanted lol
A warm Saturday morning and the first rays of sunshine woke me up and I felt my heart beat faster. Today was my first day of shooting. I’ve never worked on something this big, only a few commercials here and there. I’ve been going to the acting school for some time and the opportunity I got this summer was incredible! I saw that there was an audition going on for some movie called “The Lost Boys” and it seemed interesting. I auditioned for a small role, a girl in the record store who has a close encounter with vampires. Nothing special but definitely better than anything I’ve done so far. I got ready and drove to Santa Cruz where the production and filming took place. I can’t even describe how nervous I felt. What if I mess up and they fire me ? What if..ugh, I don’t even know but I hope it’ll all go well.
I finally got to the set and was amazed by the whole look of it. So many people walking on the boardwalk, so many colors and outfits going around, everything seemed unreal and my anxiety was soon replaced by the feeling of pride and joy because I got to be a part of this. The cast was staying at the hotel nearby and after meeting with the director I went to my room to get some rest since the shooting was taking place after midnight.
My alarm goes off and I glance at the clock to see that it’s almost 11pm. I got ready and rushed to the set get my make up done. As I was sitting in my chair, four guys walked in to get their make up done as well. Since they had their outfits on there was no doubt that these guys were vampires. But there was this one guy in this incredible colorful jacket who sparked my attention. Was it because he couldn’t stop giggling when they were putting his fangs on ? Who knows ? But he seemed pretty cute. The three other guys walked out of the makeup room leaving me alone with this blond curly guy who was still fixing his hair.
“Ouch! Damn!” he suddenly said when he accidentally pulled the piece of, i hope, fake hair.
“Hey are you ok there ?” I said coming closer to him.
“Oh hi! Yeah it’s just this weird hair piece thing that’s messing with me” he said giggling again.
“I’m Alex by the way” the curly one said with a cheeky smile while shaking my hand.
“Hey. You must be..one of the vampires, right ?”
“Yeah hah, a vampire with a crop top and a mullet” he said laughing.
“Well..I think you’re pulling it off rather well” I said smiling at him.
“You think ?” he said, blushing.
“Totally..Hey I think we have a scene together!”
“Really ? Oh yeah! The record store! They told us there will be a girl there as well. I guess I’m the first one to meet you, besides the director”
“Well, yeah. Haven’t really met anyone from the set yet. Oh man, look at the time! We better get going, I don’t wanna get fired” I said grabbing my jacket while the blondie followed.
“I don’t want you to get fired as well! I mean..I don’t...want us to get fired..” he said, blushing again.
This guy sure seemed like a fun person to be around. We got on the set and were shooting our scene in the record store when the director decided to make some changes.
“Ok, Marko can flirt a bit with her” the director said bringing Alex closer to me. He seemed a bit puzzled and embarrassed at first because this wasn’t in the script but he didn’t seem to mind.
“So..Marko ha ?” I said giggling
“Yes..It’s Marko” he said shyly
“The boldest outfit plus a foreign name..and they all belong to you”
“Hey it’s not my fault!”
“Hey calm down Marko..it’s time to shoot” I laughed when the director said “Action!”
It was a bit awkward at first and we had to redo the scene a few times because he wasn’t really sure what he was doing. We just met and he had to fake flirting with me while looking all tough and dangerous. I couldn’t help but smile every time he would say some cheesy pick up line with that cheeky smirk of his.
After a few hours we wrapped it up and called it a day. I was exhausted but definitely way more relaxed and excited because the movie seemed amazing and I got to meet this really cute guy on the set. The time was moving fast and it was pretty much the same every day. You sleep during the daytime and go to the set during the night. Me and Alex would talk all the time during the breaks and even during some scenes, being in the background and the director had to warn us to zip it a few times which made both of us laugh. He was such an amazing guy, super smart and fun to be around, not to mention that he looked like an actual angel with that blond curly hair and big green eyes, the complete opposite of the character he was portraying. It’s a weird thing about his eyes, they change color. Sometimes they’re green, sometimes they’re blue but all I know is that they were always sparkling and I was always left mesmerized.
It’s been almost a week since we started shooting and I was in the makeup room getting ready to go back to the hotel when Alex walked in. He took his shirt off, not noticing that I was there and my heart started beating faster because I’ve never seen him shirtless before. He quickly put on a shirt and took off that hair piece when I walked out from the changing booth.
“Oh hey! Didn’t know you were still here” he said smiling.
“Yeah, I was just picking some stuff up..I’ve never seen you without that weird hair piece before” I said, noticing how good he actually looked when he wasn’t playing Marko, that cute blood sucking vampire.
“Well..is it better this way ?”
“Definitely” I said, biting my lip.
“You know ugh..the other day..the flirting and everything..”
“Yeah hah, that was so awkward, I had no idea he’ll make you do that”
“Well I..I was nervous” he said, coming closer to me.
“I could tell! But hey, it was the first day of shooting, it’s normal and-”
“I was nervous because..I wasn’t faking it” he said, blushing.
“..What..?”
“Well..I mean, it was real, the whole flirting thing..It was very real”
“Oh I..I mean, I had no idea”
“Ugh..I’m sorry, I feel so stupid for saying this..I-”
“Hey! It’s ok..”
“Wait..really ?”
“Yes. It’s totally fine. I was..kind of hoping it was real..” I said shyly when I’ve noticed a smirk on his face.
“Well..did it work ?”
“It worked, even before you said anything..”
“I sure hope so, because if it didn’t I wouldn’t do this” he said, putting his hand on my neck and pressing his lips against mine. I could feel my heart pounding like it was in my head, my knees were weak and I wrapped my arms around him, kissing him back. It felt so good and I was completely lost in the moment, the way he was kissing me was so gentle and yet so full of passion, the soft sighs escaping his lips while I was putting my hand in his soft curls, playing with them. I could feel his warm fingertips going under my shirt and up my back and then coming back to my waist, holding it tight. Our little moment was soon interrupted by some tall guy who walked in to grab his keys and we decided to go back to the hotel and get ready for the next day. This movie sure is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Bonus Marko gifs for extra feels, he’s killing me :))):

underappreciated things about rise 1x06: bring me stanton
sorry about spamming these things but i want to watch rise
i love this episode
coach driving gwen to school and buying her a smoothie
and gwen rejecting it
i don’t understand a fucking word of what coach is saying when they’re at football practice this is like another language
why does robbie’s football understudy look vaguely like archie from riverdale
clark is wearing a striped shirt that looks kind of like the one that sean wore in dwsa!! otto solidarity
when lou asks for a drumroll sasha could not possibly look more unenthusiastic
MAASHOUS LOVES HIS SET SO MUCH
“please don’t touch, maashous is very protective of his handiwork”
irrelevant but harmony is so cute and i would die for her
the siremy glances!! you already know what the fuck is up
michael Knows
when maashous makes the smokestacks blow out real smoke and the troupe gets so excited
anabelle kind of pats him on the back and it’s really cute
maashous’s bow when everyone’s applauding. he looks so happy i love him
whenever i see the “let’s make drama” poster thing i think it says “let’s make obama”. this happens every time and i am sick of it
lilette crying when she’s explaining why she can’t come to rehearsal makes me so sad i hate this
tracey is wearing a super cool dress with suns and stars on it
jeremy’s little run when he’s trying to catch up to simon
simon doesn’t look directly at jeremy for a long time
jeremy looks almost scared when simon calls him back after he starts to leave
simon doesn’t say that he isn’t into jeremy, or that he doesn’t want to be with him. he says that he can’t.
jeremy’s hand on simon’s shoulder
simon kissing him back. this is underappreciated everyone talks about this i just feel that i have to mention it
when he kisses jeremy you can see how much simon not just wants, but needs this. for these few seconds he’s finally letting his guard down, letting himself feel something. which is what makes it so heartbreaking when he forces himself to run away.
god i love simon saunders so much i want to love and support him so badly
the fact that their rehearsals start at nine. i’m imagining rehearsing from 9 - midnight(?) and i feel like dying these kids are so devoted to this show
lou wanting to lock the kids in the basement for the date night
lou whispering “i’m excited”
do yall remember when the rise instagram used the picture of tracey looking behind her when she hears sasha and boyfriend arguing and put it next to the picture of simon looking at condoms so it looked like she had caught him
i really wish that they had introduced sasha at least a little bit prior to this episode because i watched rise with my mom and like, i was obsessed with the show so i knew everyone’s names but she, a casual watcher, had no idea who the fuck this girl was
tracey not forcing sasha to talk about what’s happening
tracey hugging her
i would kill a man for tracey wolfe
gwen asking gordy to skip school with her
and gordy wanting to but refusing because he’s trying to be better
saint gordy
gordy looking back at gwen
“hey anabelle you’re looking especially radiant today” i take it all back i hate simon saunders
anabelle is wearing what my dad would call a “power flannel”
who is jeremy even talking to in this scene i didn’t realize that he had friends outside of the troupe
when simon kisses anabelle on the cheek it’s so awkward
neither of them know what to say i hate this
the square smokestack
maashous is fifteen i’m older than him what the fuck
i have to protect him i’m his mom now
the picture of gwen in coach’s office
dramatic music plays in the background as robbie struts into coach’s office
i’m sorry robbie i love you but i could not give less of a shit about your troy bolton storyline
“you know the nurse’s office gives these out for free, right?” “yeah, they don’t have the same selection though”
everything that simon says in this scene is...certainly something
“now i just need a scented candle and some breath mints” this is. literally the gayest thing that simon has ever said
lilette instantly realizing that simon is trying to prove that he’s straight by doing this
ted sutherland and auli’i cravalho are two of the most beautiful people i’ve ever seen in my life
when sasha asked if there’s any place in pennsylvania that doesn’t follow the parental consent rule my first thought was “alexa play whispering”
i wish that we had seen more of their version of the guilty ones
clark’s mom makes me jump every time
clark looks like he’s ready for death
no one know how to react to this
the saga of michael and the midterm
jolene blaming robbie and football for the late rehearsals
and lilette defending him
michael trying to organize a walkout
simon starts yelling but you can’t hear him what is he so pissed about
jeremy looking at simon as he’s leaving
was vanessa suing anton ever going to go anywhere or did she just drop it? it’s never mentioned again so idk??
“for the first time in my life, i’m part of something i actually believe in.” im love lilette suarez
“i don’t wanna talk about spring awakening” gail @ lou, but also all of my friends @ me
i love what lou is saying about art here
“that’s the point of art, right? to reflect the world, to take something raw and painful, maybe even hopeless, and make it beautiful?”
gail and lou’s first date!!
it’s very clear that maashous and lou didn’t tell anyone that they were about to destroy the set
the best reaction is michael’s but honorable mention goes to harmony and lilette
no one remembers the bookstore
“ah. amazon.”
of course lou’s favorite author is f. scott fitzgerald
title drop: “this set, it was always gonna be a reflection of the world we live in. so let’s embrace that. bring me stanton.” - lou
i love the montage of the troupe finding stuff for the set
the fact that there’s no indication if they asked before taking this stuff. this could very well all be stolen
the understudies all looking for stuff together
clark and jeremy practicing the bitch of living choreography on the chairs they find
the picture of baby gwen and coach
they didn’t bother to erase the texts that gwen sent in earlier takes so she’s just sent the same text tons of time
clark being worried about mr. mazzu knowing that they’re breaking into the steel mill
“gordy’s way cooler than his dad” “which isn’t saying much”
maashous stopping to look and everyone else leaving him behind
“that’s a felony!” “shut up, simon” someone is a mood here but i can’t tell who
no one knows how to react when gwen breaks the boards off
michael just wanting to leave
jolene bringing booze
michael’s little “desperate, much?” in the background
lilette and robbie making out in the storage room
maashous is clearly drunk and it’s fucking hilarious
gwen grabbing gordy’s hand is so smooth
gordy taking a sip of beer and clearly realizing that he shouldn’t be
robbie going to lou with his problems
robbie talking about how much he loves football
the cops interrupting simon and anabelle
the troupe just. running
coach is buddies with the cops
robbie refusing to quit football or the show
again, did simon ask before he took the window from the church
i love the music in this scene!!
lou is so happy with the jukebox
francis and violet run up onto the stage to see the railroad stuff and it’s cute
happy maashous!! a gift to this world
sasha and tracey talking
it’s very clear that no one was informed about the huge-ass sign. they’re all stunned
i always tear up when the set is revealed
everyone clapping for maashous
tracey being with sasha when she tells her dad that she’s pregnant
gordy telling his mom that he needs help
robbie sadly watching from the bench
and all of this happening while lilette sings mama who bore me
vanessa crying when she sees lilette on stage
and now i’m crying too

➪the one where nick loves how small you are compared to him.
This was a request; A Nick Goode x Short reader (let me know if this is what you wanted, anon <3 much love. I’m super sorry if you don’t like the setting I added in x). Think of Nate and Maddy’s height difference. Gif has nothing to do with the imagine, he’s just fine af.
WARNINGS: smut, size kink, short reader, fingering, over simulation, unprotected sex, choking kink, possessive nick, established relationship, man handling (consensual), nick just straight up being obsessed with a short girl, shadyside reader (not really important, though), angst (if you squint), public harassment (that nick straightens up hella quick), jealous nick, slight innocence kink
Word Count: 4.7k
You were a short girl, you always had been. It’s not something you could just fix with plastic surgery (not that you had the money for that, anyway). Your legs were noticeably shorter than most girls your age, your torso was average and your overall height was a whopping 4’9. It made forming relationships extremely difficult. It seemed as if no one wanted a much shorter than short girlfriend.
  Well, except Nick.
Nick was your boyfriend and had been for the past nine months. You felt as if you were the luckiest girl in the world when you met him. Not only was he really into you as a person, but he also didn’t have a fraction of a problem with your size. In fact, you’d go as far as to say he was overly proud at the fact that you were so little in comparison to him and he could pretty much do whatever he wanted to with you.
You stood in the lobby, waiting for Nick to return from his quick meeting with his superior. With nothing else to do, you picked at your nails, the clear coat you painted on a few days ago chipping at your touch. You weren’t paying attention to your surroundings in the slightest, so when you heard the sound of a low whistle, you ignored it and continued to pick off the clear polish.
“Look what we have here,” you heard someone say from behind you and your ears perk up at that. With a glance to your left, you see two men standing a few feet away from you. “You’re quite a small one, aren’t you?”
At that, you drop your hand to your side and squint your eyes at them. “I’d love to see the guy who takes you home,” the other one said, biting his lip in a way that had you visibly cringing. “I’d love to be the guy who takes you home.”
Yuck. These guys were going to be police officers soon? This town really was fucked.
The bolder one steps closer to you, swiping his tongue across his lower lip. “What’s your name, doll?”
You looked up at him. He was average in height, much taller than you but also much shorter than Nick. You gave him a big, but extremely fake, smile. “Why the hell would I tell you my name?”
“Ooh, you’re a feisty one, aren’t you, little one?” You scoffed at the unwanted nickname, stepping away from the guy. “I like it. I could use a girl like you in my life, in more than one way, if you see what I’m getting at here.”
“You don’t know me,” you mutter and turn away from him. You were too busy dealing with the unwanted attention to notice or hear the ding from the elevator, signaling its arrival to the main floor.
“But I could get to know you, we both could,” he gestures over to his friend, who was equally as pervy as the one standing in front of you. “What do you say?”
He reached out to grab your arm, but before he could, another hand gripped his wrist when it was inches away from touching you. “I’d say you better keep your hands off of her if you want to still have them,” you hear the unmistakable voice of your boyfriend and you let out a sigh of relief at the sight of him. Nick notices your discomfort and gently grabs your waist, pulling you into his side and away from the guy.
Nick was considerably taller than both men, but that didn’t seem to stop the bold one from stepping closer to the two of you. “And who are you, exactly?” The guy stepped even closer, his face now inches from Nick’s. Granted, he had to stare up at Nick, but he didn’t show any sign of feeling inferior to him.
  He probably should have.
Nick pushed you behind him, tilting his head up slightly as he looked at your harasser. “I’m her boyfriend,” he said, watching as the man rolled his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something but Nick beat him to it. “The name’s Nick Goode. Maybe you’ve heard of me?”
At the mention of his name, the guy’s smirk and smug look vanished and were replaced with panic and fear. “Nick Goode?” He asked, stepping away from him. You had to peek around Nick’s body to be able to see what was happening. You couldn’t stand on your tippy toes and peer over his shoulder as you reached way below that. “As in, Sheriff Goode’s son, Nick Goode?”
Nick just raised his brows, a deadly look in his eyes. That was enough of an answer as it had the man backing away, his hands up in defense. “My bad, dude,” he said and you pressed your face against Nick’s bicep, wrapping your arms around his left one. You watched with a small smile on your lips as the two men backed away. “Really, had I known she was your girl, I wouldn’t have even looked at her.”
He really wasn’t making things better. Nick glared at the men, hatred burning in his eyes. These were the guys that would back him up when carrying on his fathers legacy? “If you think that either of you will ever become part of the police force after this, you’ve got to be the dumbest people to ever walk in here,”
“Wait, what? No, man, you’ve got it all wrong,” one of them tried to defend themselves. “We didn’t know she had a boyfriend! You can’t ruin all we’ve worked for just because of harmless flirting, that’s not fair!”
Nick grabbed your small hand in his much bigger one. “You should’ve thought more about that before even deciding to look at her,” he said and tugged you along as he headed towards the exit.
You had to nearly jog to keep up with Nick’s long strides. His grip on your hand was tight and it was clear that what just happened pissed him off to no end. Nick had always been extremely protective of you and seeing another man trying to touch you must have set him off.
Once you got to his car, he opened the door for you, glancing back at the doors of the building. The doors were all glass, so he could clearly see the two men arguing from the spot Nick left them in.
He shut the car door once you were seated and you barely had your seatbelt on before he got in and turned the key, pulling away from the parking spot at the front of the building. You sat quietly, listening to Nick’s heavy breathing. His grip on the steering wheel was tight, making his already pale knuckles even more light in color.
“Are you okay?” You asked after a while of silence.
Nick looked over at you for a second before shaking his head. “I shouldn’t have left you there alone, I’m sorry,”
“It’s okay,” you reach over and grab his right hand, holding it between your fingers. “Really, nothing really happened. You stopped it before it got that far.”
“It doesn’t matter,” he muttered. “That asshole thought he could touch you right in front of me. Harass you right in front of me. I should go back and knock their teeth in for talking to you like that. I hate that they even thought they had a chance with you.”
You squeezed his hand, which probably only felt like a small pinch to him, before placing his hand on your thigh. The size comparison between you two was furthermore proven when his hand covered a good portion of your thigh, and he tightened the grip he had on your skin as he locked his jaw.
“Those boys wouldn’t have a chance with me even if they were the last remaining people on this planet,” you assure him, your hold on his wrist firm as you slowly slid his hand further up your thigh. Nick visibly tensed but kept a straight face, his eyes forward as he unknowingly began driving a bit faster. “Besides, why would I want them when I have my bigger, and much hotter boyfriend?”
The drive couldn’t have gone by slower. Nick felt as if time was moving in slow motion as he drove the familiar route back to his apartment in Sunnyvale.
Nick wasn’t usually the jealous type, possessive, sure, but not overly jealous. It was events like what happened with the two guys back there that had that jealousy brought out of him. You were so small and it made people think they could walk all over you and treat you like you were different without any consequences. Nick had proven that wrong on more than one occasion since you got together.
He’d be lying if he said your size wasn’t what attracted him to you in the first place. You looked so small when standing next to him and he could only imagine how small you’d look under him. But, he didn’t let his fantasies get in the way of getting to know you as a person. What came after that was just a bonus.
Still, the fact that people still think they have a chance with you when he made you his in every way possible had his blood boiling.
When he finally arrived home, his grip on you was tight and Nick had to be careful in making sure he didn’t break your hand. You were once again trying to keep up with his fast pace, your arm feeling like it was about to pop out of its socket with how far ahead Nick was.
He unlocked his door and tugged you inside. You stood in the middle of his living room while he brought his hands up to tug at his hair. He was extremely annoyed, clearly, and you didn’t want to piss him off even more so you stayed still. Nick ran his hands down his face and looked over at you.
You, in all honesty, looked like an angel. You stood there, a small white dress framing your figure beautifully, an innocent look on your face. Nick watched as you played with your fingers, waiting for him to do whatever was currently running through his mind.
Nick reached you in two strides, his hands grabbing either side of your face. His lips pressed to yours with a force that had you feeling light headed for a second. Once you registered his lips on yours, you kissed back with just as much need, your hands sliding up to grip his jaw.
He pressed into you, making you step back, nearly tripping over the coffee table. His hands moved to your waist, steadying you as his lips travelled to your neck. He sucked a dark purple mark there, his tongue swiping over it to soothe the sting.
Nick pulled away and rested his forehead against yours, the pair of you letting out heavy breaths. You looked up at him, ignoring the small sting of pain from having to crane your neck, a knowing smile on your lips. He pulled away and took your hand once again, leading you to his bedroom.
As soon as the door closed behind you, Nick pushed you onto his bed with little to no effort. You fell forward, your hands reaching out to catch yourself as you hit the softness of his bed. You turned around and leaned up on your elbows, watching as he slid his black jacket off, tossing it onto the chair that sat in the far corner of the room.
It was almost comical how much you turned Nick on and fed into his deepest fantasies. You, laying on his bed, your dress having slipped up to reveal all areas of your thighs and legs to him, all while looking like something straight out of heaven.
Nick fell on top of you, his forearms catching his body before he completely crushed you. He kept his lower half pressed against yours, his left thigh coming up to slip between yours, the top of his knee pressing against your thinly covered heat. Your mouth opened to let out a breathless moan, your eyes closing and head falling back against the pillow. Nick kept his weight on his right forearm, his left hand trailing down your body. It starts by sliding down the area between your breasts then down your stomach before finally sliding under the thin material of your flimsy dress.
He presses his mouth to yours once he slips his hand under the fabric of your underwear, his finger immediately finding your bundle of nerves. His thumb presses against it, rubbing circles on it as your mouth breaks away from his to release a string of moans. Your hands tug on his shirt and hair, needing something to hold onto as he teased you.
Nick moves to suck on your neck again, giving you another mark as his middle finger slips past your folds after gathering your wetness with it. Your hand tugs at his hair harder, biting down on your lower lip to quiet your moans. You were still somewhat shy when it came to sex, despite Nick telling you over and over again that he loves the sounds you make for him, craves it, even.
As he slips his pointer finger past your folds, his lips press against yours, his teeth tugging at your bottom lip to allow your moans to freely leave your mouth. His fingers moved in and out of you at a slow pace and it had your legs shaking with want.
“Those fuckers thought they could have you like this,” Nick muttered against your lips. He pumped his fingers faster, feeling the wetness begin to coat them completely. “Thought they could touch what belongs to me, what I’ve tainted as my own.”
You moaned at both the feeling of his fingers and his words, the jealousy dripping from them making your heart skip a beat. “Fuck, Nick,” you whimpered, reaching down to grip his wrist, your hand moving with his.
“If only they could see you now,” he growled, moving his head so he could suck on your collar bone. He slid his fingers in as deep as they could go and kept them there, feeling your tight walls clench around him. Your breath got caught in your throat, your moans coming out broken and strained. “If only they saw how good you are for me.”
Nick went back to his attack on your chest, his mouth marking everywhere it could as his fingers resumed their movements. “Don’t stop,” you cried out, your hands moving up to his face, gripping the sides of it as if your life depended on it. “Please.”
Nick didn’t dare as he watched your face scrunch up in pleasure, your hand moving up to tug on his hair again. You felt the burning sensation spread all over your body, your stomach twisting as that familiar feeling crept up on you.
Nick watched you unravel before him, a proud smirk on his lips as he pumps his fingers even faster, feeling your juices seep out and onto the palm of his hand. “You’re close, aren’t you?” He asks, knowing the answer but wanting to hear you say it.
“Fuck, yes,” you rasped out. “I’m close.”
Nick leaned down to run his tongue along the length of your neck, licking a stripe as he feels your walls hug his fingers even tighter. With his thumb pressing firmly against your clit, you allow the knot to snap completely, your juices dripping onto his fingers as you reach your high. Your back arches, your chest pressing to Nick’s as moans flee from your mouth.
He continued to fuck his fingers into you, riding out your climax for as long as possible, only stopping when your legs began to shake uncontrollably. He slipped his fingers out of you with ease, bringing the digits up to his mouth to suck on them, savoring the taste that was you. You watched with hooded eyes as he sucked off every drop of your release and moved to sit back on his knees.
He grabbed your small hand and placed it over his jean covered crotch. “Do you think you can take one more?” He asked, removing his fingers from his mouth.
You nodded and sat up on your knees, your head barely meeting his chest. You gripped his shirt in your hands, tugging the white material up until it was over his head and discarded on the floor next to the bed. Nick placed his hands on either side of your face, leaning down to press his lips to yours. You kissed him back while fumbling with the button and zipper of his jeans. His hands fell to your waist, scrunching up your dress so it pooled at your waist for a second before taking it off you completely.
He pulled away and groaned at the sight of your white bra that matched your underwear. As you finally managed to unzip his pants, he slid one of the straps off your shoulders, leaning down even further to lock his lips around your nipple when it became exposed to him. Your left hand tugged at his hair while your other one palmed him through his black boxers. You kicked off your ankle boots while Nick slid off his converse, the shoes hitting the hardwood with a thud.
He pushed you back down onto the pillow, his hand reaching around you to unclasp your bra, throwing it to the side. You did your best to push his jeans down his legs, but your arms could only reach so far in this position. So, instead, you slid your underwear down your legs while Nick kicked off his jeans and boxers.
He hovered over you again, his body against yours and his waist tucked between your thighs. He kissed you, one of his hands moving down to grip his length and line himself up with your entrance. He pulled away from your lips as he slipped in you, your previous orgasm making it extremely easy.
Instantly he filled you, stretching your walls around him in a way that had your eyes rolling to the back of your skull. Your hands grabbed his shoulders, your nails digging into his soft skin.
You were still so tight even after the many times you and Nick have done this and he felt as if you were made to fit him exactly. You were crafted to be able to take him and only him like this, and he made sure that he ruined you for any other guy. Not that he’d allow another guy to have you this way. You were his.
Nick’s body covered yours completely. If anyone were to walk in and see him, they wouldn’t be able to see you at all. Not that anyone would walk in, anyway, as he lived alone. Hopefully, though, he’d have you living here with him soon.
He pulled out almost entirely before slipping into you, pulling a moan from your parted lips. “I can feel you,” you whimpered, grabbing one of his hands and placing it on your lower stomach. “Right here.”
Nick watched as you pushed his hand down, the outline of him inside you visible as he pressed up against you from the inside. “Fuck,” he muttered, watching the outline fade as he pulled halfway out, only to see it again as he rocked back into you. He groaned out, fucking into you at a steady rhythm.
Your hand returned to his shoulder, gripping it so hard that your knuckles began to turn white. Nick lowered himself onto you, covering your entire upper body with his. One of his hands pressed flat against the comforter beside your head, keeping him steady, while his other moved to grip your waist.
You looked so small under him and the sight pulled a deep moan from him, his hips rocking against yours with a force that you knew would leave bruises tomorrow.
Nick’s mind went back to the first time he had you like this. You were so shy back then, your cheeks tinted red in a never ending blush. He remembered the nervous expression on your face when you first saw him completely naked, worried that he wouldn’t even be able to fit. Nick was worried, too, but more so at the fact that he might actually break you.
Obviously, that wasn’t the case, but the memory of taking you for the first time had his mind go into a frenzy.
He pulled away and leaned back on his knees, his hand sliding down your body to tightly grip your waist. “Fuck yourself on me,” he muttered, his voice sounding strained. He was usually so good at keeping control of situations, but that ability goes out the window every time he gets to see you like this.
He watched as your hips pushed down to impale yourself further on him, desperately trying to bring back the friction he created. It was useless as you could only move so much from your position. Still, you fucked yourself on him as best you could, your fingers brushing against his abdomen every time you sunk back on him. Nick pushed your hips down so you were once again flat against the mattress, rocking into you while staying on his knees.
You were louder and more whiny than usual, but that was all thanks to Nick and his fingers. You were overstimulated but craved the feeling that came with him being inside you, connecting with you completely and making you feel whole. Like every other part of him, he was big. It never failed to surprise you that he even fit all the way and you were beginning to believe that he had molded you so that you could only ever take all of him.
Keeping one hand on your hip, he reached the other one up to wrap around your throat. It wasn’t tight, but it was firm enough to block your airways slightly, a feeling you didn’t know you loved until a few months ago when Nick decided to  try something different. Not only did it drive you wild, but it drove Nick insane to see how his whole hand could barely fit around your neck. His thumb had to press against your jaw so that his hand could effectively wrap around you.
You looked so easy to break, too fragile to be handled with such force, but you loved every second of it. You were, without a doubt, the most perfect girl Nick had ever met. And you were all his.
He grabbed your upper back, tugging you upwards so you were straddling him. Nick still remained in control, lifting your body up and down on his, guiding your movements as he fucked up into you.
You fall forward, your head resting on his chest, bumping into it with every thrust of his hips. You clung onto him, your hands reaching up to hold onto his shoulders. Broken moans spewed from your lips, your nails digging into his skin when he gave a particularly hard thrust that had the tip of him hitting that one spot inside you that made you see stars.
“Look at you,” Nick nearly cooed, bringing one of his hands up to grip the side of your face, making you crane your neck to look up at him. “Doing so good for me, taking me so well. I wish those scumbags could see you now, see how good you look while being fucked by me.”
“I love you,” you cried out, strands of hair falling onto your face. Nick pushed them back, squeezing one side of your face to keep you looking up at him. “No one else can have me like this. I’m yours, all yours. Fuck, only you can fuck me, only you can get me off.”
Your words were dirty and not something you’d ever say outside the bedroom. Your strained voice and claims had him dangerously close to reaching his high, something he refused to allow happen until he made you reach yours. He dropped your body back on the bed, his own body falling back on top of yours. He hooks one of your legs around his waist, rocking his hips into yours even faster than before.
He was starting to become exhausted, but the need to see you come again overpowered that feeling. A thin layer of sweat lined his forehead and the back of his neck, heavy breaths and groans leaving his parted lips. He leaned down to kiss you again, feeling your nails beginning to leave marks on his shoulders. It was a telltale sign that you were close again and he kept one hand next to your head while his other trails down to press firmly against your clit.
It quickly became too much and you broke away from the kiss, moaning loudly into his shoulder as you climax once again, your walls clenching around him impossibly tight. Nick dropped his head onto your shoulder, continuing to thrust into you, using your body to get himself off.
The added feeling of your release had him squeezing his eyes shut as he felt his own high crash down on him. You whimpered, feeling extremely overstimulated and held onto this biceps tightly, letting him fuck his warmth into you. A few more seconds pass before he stills completely, keeping his head tucked away on your shoulder, his face pressed against the side of your neck.
He wraps his arms around your waist and rolls onto his side, making your body lay half on top of his and half on the bed. He presses a final kiss to your neck and slips out of you, your legs shaking at the feeling.
You lay in silence for a few minutes, drawing random shapes onto Nick’s chest while he regains control of his breathing. He leans his head down to press a kiss to your lips, slow and intimate, his hand coming up to fix your messy hair. “I’m sorry about what those guys said to you,” he mumbled. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there.”
You shook your head, moving up so you were eye level with him, pressing your hand to his chest firmly. “It’s not your fault. They were just pervy assholes,” you murmur, leaning down to brush your lips against his. “Who got put in their place really quick, thanks to you. That was hot, by the way.”
Nick rolled his eyes, pressing a quick kiss to your lips before gently moving away from you. He stood up, gathering the discarded clothing the two of you tossed around his room. He threw them into a pile in the corner of his room, outside the bathroom door, before walking back over to you, extending his hand out. “Come on,” he said, pulling you up once you placed your hand in his. “We’re going to shower and then I’m taking you out to dinner.”
“Ooh,” you say, letting him tug you off the bed. “What's the occasion?-” As soon as your feet touched the floor, your legs gave out and you fell into Nick. He caught you, holding you up by your waist.
He laughed down at you, your face beginning to tint red, embarrassed at how wobbly your legs were. “No occasion,” he replied, wrapping your arm around his neck while he places his arm under the backs of your thighs, picking you up easily. “I just want to see the stares you get when you stumble into everything on the way to our table, thanks to me.”
“I hate you,” you muttered and he laughed again, walking into the bathroom with you in his arms.
“That’s not what you said a few minutes ago,” he pointed out, setting you down so you could sit on the edge of the bathtub. “In fact, I’m pretty sure you said you loved me.”
It was your turn to roll your eyes while he turned the shower on. “You’re hearing things,”
Nick shook his head and picked you up again as if you weighed absolutely nothing. “Yeah, I’m sure I am,” he said, steadying you once your feet hit the tiled floor of the shower. “I love you, too.”

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season Finale Review
https://ift.tt/3ecPOjy
This The Walking Dead: World Beyond review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Episodes 9 and 10
Huck (Annet Mahendru) is a woman with a mission, and it’s not to make sure everyone gets to the Civic Republic Militia research facility safely. From the very opening of The Walking Dead: World Beyond‘s ninth episode, “The Deepest Cut,” as Huck stares into the darkness while everyone sleeps, it’s clear she’s facing a choice between the people that she has come to know and love as friends in Felix and the kids, and her loyalty to the CRM, her mother, and the CRM’s idea of the greater good. Throughout the series, when prompted, Huck has cautioned Hope in particular to make the choice that benefits everyone, not the choice that simply benefits her, and that encouragement to push hope towards that concept of the greater good makes much more sense after an opening flashback to her mother, Elizabeth (Julia Ormond), telling her to stick to the plan and get rid of the excess baggage.
Excess baggage named Felix and Iris.
Huck has already successfully run off Elton, Silas, Percy, and Tony, as is revealed later on in the episode. Her whole goal, all along, has been to recover the most valuable asset at Campus Colony: Hope. That’s right, the non-valedictorian troublemaker has been the truly valuable member of the expedition all along, and not because she makes good pruno. However, before we find out why she’s so important, there is a lot of episode to get through, most of which takes place in the form of flashbacks, hallucinations, or memories of other times.
Huck’s relationship with her mother Elizabeth is fleshed out in flashbacks. The material isn’t great, but the show immediately improves the moment Julia Ormond is on screen, because she’s a pretty clearly defined villain on a show that doesn’t have one. Even people like Huck, who betrayed friends, and Dr. Lyla Belshaw (Natalie Gold), who is studying her former associates turned walkers, aren’t quite despicable. Lyla is closer than Huck, but they both confess to be doing what they’re doing in service of, you guessed it, the greater good that Elizabeth has drilled into Huck’s brain as the end-all, be-all of the CRM’s mission.
To the credit of the actors and director Sydney Freeland, they’re working hard with their material. Annet Mahendru, in particular, is doing her best to sell Huck’s desperation to offload her friends without having them all killed. She might be the only member of the CRM to have that moral quandary, given their many efforts to kill Will (Jelani Alladin) in the post-credit sequence of “The Deepest Cut.” Mahendru shines particularly well not when paired with Hope (Alexa Mansour), who she has a relationship with already, but with Iris (Aliyah Royale), because it feels so wrong for the two of them to attempt to be friends, and Huck’s patter with Iris, particularly in Matthew Negrete, Maya Goldsmith and Ben Sokolowski’s scripts, falls so deliberately flat. It’s strained and awkward, and intentionally so, because Iris is too smart to fall for Huck’s lines and too determined to keep the group together at any cost to leave Felix (Nico Tortorella) behind no matter how badly he’s hurt.

The Walking Dead Season 10: What to Expect from the Extra Episodes
By John Saavedra
Felix’s hurt only increases during “In This Life,” as all of Huck’s talking gives way to violence as she and Felix engage in a knock-down, drag-out fight that renders the bulk of a safe house to shattered plaster and crumpled furniture. While Sydney Freeland handled most of the character-driven work and intrigue, Magnus Martens gets the cool action sequence during “In This Life,” and while the character stuff worked well, there’s nothing quite like a multi-stage, multi-part brawl to get the blood pumping, particularly when a toppled lantern kicks off a house fire. Martens and company do a great job of staging the battle, and while it ends in a stalemate, it doesn’t feel like an unrealistic one. Huck would be the fitter of the two characters, thanks in small part to the fact her mother brings food to their meetings, and Felix is still dealing with a nasty cut on his ankle from Huck’s switchblade spear. A good fight is always appreciated, particularly one with as many stages, stops, and starts as this one.
Percy (Ted Sutherland, who does good work in Elton’s hallucinations), Elton (Nicolas Cantu, who remains the strongest young actor on the show), and Silas (Hal Cumpston) have a pretty nice reunion moment, where Huck’s betrayal goes from hinted at by special effects bullet wounds to outright explained by Percy, and the tension of their escape, and their fence-side conversation with one after Silas decides to play hero, is solid enough. It tracks with what we know about the character, which is that he’s constantly full of guilt and that he’s not as aggressive as his outbursts would make us believe. He’d be willing to let the CRM take him into custody for the greater good (without having those lessons from Huck). Percy and Elton believe that the fire drew CRM attention, but the truth, which is revealed at the hand-over of Hope, is much more interesting. Armed goon squads don’t go out to investigate building fires, even in the Walking Dead universe. They’re looking for Huck’s loose ends with an eye to clipping them off.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond‘s season-ending event isn’t so much a season finale as it is warming up for the final season. The success of Huck’s mission, ironically, will sow the seeds of the downfall of the Civic Republic Militia. The mysterious hooded resistance fighters have added new skilled fighters in Will, Felix, and Iris. Percy has revenge on his mind. Elton has a friend to rescue. Hope and Huck are on the inside, and are about to be given about 9,000 reasons to want revenge on the CRM when they’re finally given the news about Campus Colony being destroyed. With or without Leo Bennett—I’m not certain he’s still among the living at this point—there are a lot of people on the inside of the CRM who have beef with the CRM.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
That’s exploitable assets. Not for Elizabeth, but for someone like, I don’t know, Rick Grimes, who will be forced to take drastic measures to keep Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside from becoming the next Campus Colony? Thus far, the tie-in with the Rick Grimes movies seems limited to setting up the CRM as a villain; that said, I can’t imagine having the brilliant Julia Ormond of all people in your TV show and not have her appear in your movie. The second season’s general plot is firmly in place, all that remains is to see how it all pieces together as part of the larger Walking Dead universe.

Cody’s Top 15 TV Shows of 2016
I'm trying to keep introductions short this year. I don't need to go on again about we're in a new golden age of television, there's too many shows, etc. There's a lot of good TV out there and nowhere near enough time to watch all of it. These are the shows from last year I felt were worth making time for.
Honorable Mentions:
Black Mirror, Love, Silicon Valley, Orange is the New Black, Speechless
15. Game of Thrones (HBO)
Tumblr media
After a somewhat lackluster fifth season that struggled to adapt the slowest, most aimless books of it's source material, Game of Thrones was back in top form for it's sixth year by finally passing George R.R. Martin in his story. As a result, the show felt fresher and more exciting than it has in a long time. After years of build-up, we finally begin to see signs of the end game for the many characters of Westeros. The show delivers it's usual thrills, with deaths both heartbreaking and satisfying, breathtaking visuals, epic battles, and solid acting across the board. One of the elements that makes this past season stand out is the heavy focus on the female characters of the show. After seeing hours of abuse and terror heaped upon these women, we finally see deep, complex characters like Sansa, Arya, Cersei and Daenerys regain their power and take action. While Game of Thrones initially seemed to be a story portraying the realistic yet poisonous power of men in charge appears to be the story of brave, determined women rising up and overtaking their oppressors.
Best Episodes:
“Home”, “The Door”, “The Winds of Winter”
14. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (FX)
Tumblr media
Between this and the fantastic documentary, O.J.: Made in America, O.J. Simpson was surprisingly everywhere in 2016, and with good reason; despite the progress we've made over the past few decades, there is still an undeniable race problem in America. Ryan Murphy's miniseries highlights how little has changed in the past 20 years in regards to how black people are treated by the police and the media. I envisioned the worst when I heard Murphy was telling this story, imagining all of his worst campy tendencies being indulged while portraying the media circus that was the O.J.trial. Instead, we got a gripping, in-depth look at the lives of everyone involved in the case and the struggles they faced, most effectively seen with a trio of outstanding performances by Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance and Sterling K. Brown as the attorneys prosecuting and defending the Juice.
Best Episodes:
“From the Ashes of Tragedy”, “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia”, “Manna From Heaven”
13. The Good Place (NBC)
Tumblr media
The high concept sitcom has made a bit of a comeback in the past year, with shows like The Last Man On Earth and People of Earth taking ambitious, heavily serialized stories and reformatting them into a half-hour hangout comedy format. The Good Place is set in the afterlife and follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, in her best role since Veronica Mars), a fairly bad person in life mistakenly sent to the titular "good place" after her untimely death. With the help of her assigned soulmate, Chidi (William Jackson Harper, a true stand-out), she attempts to become a better person and earn her spot in The Good Place. That premise provides a decent amount of material to do a decent "good deed of the week" format. Instead, creator Michael Schur and his team of writers (many from Schur's Parks and Recreation) constantly keep the story moving with twists and revelations arising on a near weekly basis. The Good Place is the rare sitcom that came out of the gate strong, and is still running strong with a hilarious cast (including Ted Danson, still as charming as he was in his Cheers days), smart storytelling, and a lot of heart and mind.
Best Episodes:
“Pilot”, “The Eternal Shriek”, “Most Improved Player”
12. Westworld (HBO)
Tumblr media
There's not much more I can say about what is probably the most heavily discussed show of the year. Some complained about the heavy emphasis on mystery, with an abundance of teases about the true nature and motivations of the Hosts and employees that populate Westworld. While it's true the show occasionally got a bit lost in it's puzzle box narrative, it's hard to deny that Westworld is just flat-out entertaining with one of the best ensembles on television. Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton give the show it's heart with performances that are alternately heartbreaking and chilling, often in the same scene. Jeffrey Wright provides a wonderful moral center for the story, giving the character of Bernard a quiet thoughtfulness that makes the occasional bit of necessary exposition compelling. Then there's Anthony freaking Hopkins, who even in his late 70s gives a masterclass in true acting and is riveting every second he's on screen. While the first season of ultimately feels like a bit of a prologue for what's to come, it's a damn good prologue; one that leaves me very excited to see what's next.
Best Episodes:
“The Original”, “The Adversary”, “Trompe L’Oeil”
11. Fleabag (Amazon)
Tumblr media
This British import pulls a bit of a bait and switch on viewers; it starts out as a raunchy comedy about a young woman struggling to get her life together, albeit a very funny one with a striking central performance by writer Phoebe Waller- Bridge. However, by the end of the first episode, and with each consecutive episode, Waller-Bridge reveals the dark, sad heart at the core of the series. Fleabag takes the convention of the rude, promiscuous 20-something that we see on so many cable comedies and really digs into the person underneath; what makes this person act the way they do and make the choices they make? Yet, the show never judges Waller-Bridge’s character, even if she judges herself. The show also boasts a solid supporting cast with brilliant character details. The central relationship between Waller-Bridge’s character and her sister is one of the better sibling relationships on TV, and no character goes wasted; a character present in one short scene at the beginning of the series ends up unexpectedly returning, and providing some of the most poignant, revealing moments in the story. There has been no word yet if Waller-Bridge will bring back Fleabag, but we can only benefit from hearing more of her unique voice.
Best Episodes:
“Episode 1″, “Episode 4″, “Episode 6″
10. Full Frontal With Samantha Bee (TBS)
Tumblr media
2016 was a rough year. The nightmare circus that was the election, and it’s results, left a lot of people feeling drained, upset, and uncertain of where the country would be heading in the near future. Many comedy shows that deal in political satire seemed unsure of how to tackle the rise of Trump. Late night hosts such as Seth Meyers, John Oliver, and Trevor Noah went for an angle of frustrated disbelief, while Saturday Night Live was unsure what comedic approach to take after providing an unfortunate spotlight for the Donald the year before. Jimmy Fallon took the approach of goofing around with him and tousling his hair. Enter Samantha Bee. The former Daily Show correspondent could not have been given a better time to get her own show. Bee needed no time to settle into her host role, instead giving the sense of anger and outrage that many people felt about everything happening in the political sphere. She took on topics such as the Syrian refugees, gun control, abortion, and both the Republican and Democratic parties with blunt honesty and empathy. The laughs came from pointing out the hypocrisy and absurdness of the election, and from just needing a release of the extreme tension we were experiencing. Just beginning it’s second year, it looks like Full Frontal will be around for a while, and it’s a good thing; as the political landscape looks as if it is going to only get worse before it gets better, we need someone like Samantha Bee to help us through it more than ever.
Best Episodes:
“Cleveland”, “Republican National Convention”, “President Obama”
9. Veep (HBO)
Tumblr media
When creator Armando Iannucci left Veep after Season 4, there was concern that the show would lose the hilarious bite that came with Iannucci’s razor sharp dialogue. Thankfully, new showrunner David Mandel maintained the show’s quality in it’s fifth season, bringing what may be the show’s best year yet. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was as perfect as ever as Selina Meyer works to win over congress when her presidential election ends in a tie. As great as Louis-Dreyfus is, the whole ensemble really makes Veep work, with Timothy Simons’ Jonah and Sam Richardson’s Richard being highlights, and Sarah Sutherland getting a much welcome increase in screentime as Selina’s daughter films a documentary and gets in a new relationship. The season built wonderfully to a genuinely surprising conclusion that promises an entirely different show when it returns. In a time when real world politics seem like satire, Veep continues to provide a hilarious alternative.
Best Episodes:
“Mother”, “Kissing Your Sister”, “Inauguration”
8. Better Call Saul (AMC)
Tumblr media
A Breaking Bad spin-off was always going to have a lot to live up to. Following one of the most popular shows of the past decade was tough enough, but making the focus of that spin-off a relatively minor supporting character used primarily for comedic relief? It seemed destined to be a mess, but the first season gave a surprising amount of depth to the man who would become Saul Goodman. In it’s second year, Better Call Saul truly finds it’s voice. Less reliant on the action and tension of it’s parent show, Saul instead plays as a slow motion tragedy, as we watch Jimmy (in a wonderfully layered performance by Bob Odenkirk) struggle to do the right thing, all while knowing he is doomed. Michael McKean continues to be as good as ever as Jimmy’s manipulative brother, and Rhea Seehorn gets a much appreciated larger role as Kim, the one person who could possibly pull Jimmy back from the brink of corruption. Those who enjoy the more thrilling, gritty style of Breaking Bad will enjoy the continued presence of Mike Ehrmantraut, who at times seems to be in his own, equally good series as he navigates the Albuquerque crime world and comes across some familiar characters. The journey of Jimmy McGill into Saul Goodman can only grow worse, but it will surely make the journey for those watching all the more captivating.
Best Episodes:
“Rebecca”, “Nailed”, “Klick”
7. BoJack Horseman (Netflix)
Tumblr media
The best comedy about depression starring a cartoon horse maintained it’s wonderful mix of hilarious absurdity and dark truth in it’s third season, as BoJack works the award circuit for his leading role in the Secretariat biopic. The show expands it’s experimental streak with an episode set entirely in 2007 (complete with reminders of the time), one with almost no dialogue, and a drug bender episode with chunks of the story missing. Will Arnett as BoJack rivals his work as Gob Bluth for the best performance of his career; he is able to play BoJack’s pain and sadness just as well as his arrogance. Additionally, Aaron Paul and Paul F. Tompkins show new depths to the primarily jokey characters of Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter. Despite all of the adult animated comedies out there, BoJack Horseman feels like something new and original. It uses it’s medium to do things a live-action show could not do, but still is able to find a deep, emotional truth.
Best Episodes:
“Fish Out of Water”, “It’s You”, “That’s Too Much, Man!”
6. Atlanta (FX)
Tumblr media
One of the ideal goals of any story being told is to transport you and let you witness a life that you don’t encounter in your everyday life. This could mean going to space or entering a world of magic and fantasy. In some instances, however, it simply means learning more about people you see every day, who are still underrepresented by most modern media. In interviews for Atlanta, show creator/star Donald Glover said he wanted viewers to experience what it felt like to be black. Atlanta itself ends up being a captivating, surreal and empathetic show that is really unlike anything I’ve seen before. Glover plays Earn, a young man in Atlanta who’s essentially homeless; after learning that his cousin, Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry), has a rising rap career, he offers to become his manager in order to support himself and his daughter, as well as proving himself to his daughter’s mother, Van (Zazie Beetz). That set-up provides plenty of opportunities for a weekly grounded series. Instead, Glover makes Atlanta a show that exists in a slightly different world; where Justin Bieber is black and where an entire episode is a talk show from a fictional black entertainment network, complete with fake commercials. Despite the bizarre touches Glover adds, Atlanta is also achingly realistic; Earn’s constant struggle to make money and provide for his family, and all the detours in that journey, from dealing with Alfred’s public reputation to sudden bursts of gun violence, provide a melancholy touch along with several hilarious setpieces. That mix of the sad, strange, and comical is what makes Atlanta so unique and what makes Glover’s voice so essential.

5. Halt and Catch Fire (AMC)
Tumblr media
In it's first season, Halt and Catch Fire was fine, if flawed; a look at the '80s computer industry that occasionally leaned too heavily on the moody antihero trope that had grown so tired. It held just enough interest with it's strong performances and a promising narrative shift towards the end of the season. In Season 2, the show took a huge leap forward as it shifted the central focus to it's female characters, Cameron (Mackenzie Davis) and Donna (Kerry Bishe), while revealing the weak, sad nature if it's male protagonists, Joe (Lee Pace) and Gordon (Scoot McNairy). In it's third year, the quality of Halt and Catch Fire continued to skyrocket, turning itself from a very enjoyable series to one of the best dramas on television. A location change to Silicon Valley give things a renewed sense of energy. All four leads are given roughly equal screentime, but have evolved so much that all of their stories are equally captivating. Joe MacMillan is still devious and cunning, yet Pace reveals more of the wounded, insecure man underneath. As Gordon struggles with both his brain damage and his career aimlessness, McNairy beautifully plays the pain and frustration Gordon is feeling. Davis is as terrific as ever as Cameron stubbornly tries to keep control of her company, and Bishe continues to show new layers to Donna as her opportunities rise and increase. As the season progresses, the characters have to make some tough decisions, and with the writing and performances have grown so strong, it leads to some truly stunning and heartbreaking dramatic sequences that occasionally rise to the level of Mad Men. AMC was kind and smart enough to give Halt and Catch Fire time to find it's identity. The ratings remained low, but they stuck with it, including an opportunity to finish out it's story with a final season this year. When the show started, I didn't think I would care so much to see where these characters end up. After a stellar third year, I'm not quite ready for them to leave yet.
Best Episodes:
“The Threshold”, “NIM”, “NeXT”
4. The Americans (FX)
Tumblr media
There's not much more I can say about The Americans in it's fourth season than I did in it's first, second, or third season. The spy family drama gets better and better each year, both in content and as a payoff to everything that came before. Stories that have been building up since the very beginning of the series continue to pay off, showing how expertly The Americans plays the long game. That long game is reflected by it's performances. Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys give Elizabeth and Philip a consistent tired, beaten down in their performances. All of the horrible decisions and actions they have chosen to take over the years are starting to show, turning the excitement and vigor of their early adventures into a struggle just to make it through the day. That weariness extends to the people surrounding them, with Holly Taylor's Paige and Alison Wright's Martha getting significantly increased roles. Paige's story in particular makes quite an impact. On most prestige dramas, from The Sopranos to Breaking Bad to Homeland, the teenage character is usually seen as an annoying distraction from the main action. With The Americans, that character not only becomes essential to the main narrative, but manages to be sympathetic and just as captivating as the main characters we've been following for the series. While The Americans has never been talked about as much as some cable dramas, it's easily on the same level. With each season, the Jennings family grows more and more fascinating as their lives and relationships grow more and more fractured.
Best Episodes:
“Chloramphenicol”, “The Magic of David Copperfield V: The Statue of Liberty Disappears”, “Dinner for Seven”
3. Horace and Pete (LouisCK.net)
Tumblr media
Louis C.K. is a comedian and storyteller who is a master of the unexpected. His brilliant stand-up features constant reversals and punchlines that sneak up on you with brutality. When given his own HBO series, C.K. went against expectations and made a Norman Lear inspired sitcom filmed in front of a studio audience.  His second series, Louie, challenged the idea of what a half hour comedy could be, featuring a highly cinematic style, stories that spanned several episodes, and episodes that were primarily dramatic at times. His latest series, Horace and Pete, took everyone by surprise, in many different ways. It arrived completely unannounced; one Saturday morning, those subscribed to C.K.'s mailing list received an email with a link to the first episode on his website. Viewers were treated to what amounted to a 67 minute filmed play (complete with intermission) with a dark, dramatic tone and an impressive cast, including Steve Buscemi, Edie Falco, Jessica Lange, and Alan Alda. As the weeks went by, a new episode would be released, ranging from 30 minutes to a little under an hour, and could be almost anything. Some episodes dealt with current political issues and featured references to news events from recent weeks. One was one long conversation between C.K.'s Horace and a previously unseen character played by Laurie Metcalf, opening with a nine minute monologue solely framed on Metcalf. Horace and Pete features some of the best writing of C.K.'s career, reaching depths of extreme sorrow while still remaining his dark, vulgar wit. It helps that he has such a solid cast performing his words; Alda shows a side of himself that has almost never been seen, and Buscemi plays Pete as wounded live wire, constantly captivating you with his every moment on screen. One of the most impressive things about Horace and Pete is that it's a complete story. The 10th episode provides a definitive ending. It's hard to think of many artists who would create a show in secret, release it without it any notice, and then end it, and move on, but that kind of creativity is what makes Louis C.K. one of a kind.
Best Episodes:
“Episode 1″, “Episode 3″, “Episode 10″
2. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (The CW)
Tumblr media
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend seems like a tough sell; a musical comedy with a potentially alienating title and a penchant for awkward moments. As the theme song notes, however, "The situation is a lot more nuanced than that." Co-Creator and star Rachel Bloom (along with co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna) is well aware of the troubling tropes of romantic comedies, and uses her show to deconstruct the elements of these types of stories while still embracing their more engaging elements. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has honestly been an eye-opening experience for me. There are so many tropes and narrative choices in romantic stories, be it a major plot point or even just a throwaway joke, that have become so commonplace, we often overlook the implications of what it's implying. The writers call out these moments head-on, with Bloom's Rebecca sometimes halting a scene to question an offhand comment. It's honestly made me look at certain types of storytelling in a completely new light. Aside from the more thoughtful aspects, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is also flat-out hilarious and entertaining. The comedy is so sharp, with quality jokes coming at a rapid pace. The songs (written by Bloom, Adam Schlesinger, and Jack Dolgen) are terrific, playing as clever satires of popular music both old and new, while still holding up as smart, catchy original songs. The show has also developed a great stable of supporting characters, running jokes, and callbacks, making the show's setting of West Covina feel like a fully realized place. Nearing the end of it's second season, Bloom & McKenna have pulled no punches, unafraid to completely change the narrative and dynamics of the show at a moment's notice. It's this bold inventiveness that makes Crazy Ex-Girlfriend truly special, and, yes, nuanced.
Best Episodes:
"That Text Was Not Meant For Josh!", "When Will Josh See How Cool I Am?", "When Will Josh and His Friend Leave Me Alone?"
1. Stranger Things (Netflix)
Tumblr media
This is a really predictable choice for my #1 show if you know me well. It pretty much hits all of my genre interests. A coming-of-age/sci-fi/horror show set in the early '80s that feels like Stephen King by way of early Steven Spielberg with a bit of John Carpenter and Freaks and Geeks mixed in. It would be very hard for me not to love Stranger Things at least a little bit. My anticipation was through the roof before it debuted, and thankfully, it did not disappoint. I understand the complaints of some. Yes, at times, it leans a bit heavily on it's influences, but to those who say people's enjoyment of the show comes solely out of a warm sense of nostalgia, I have to disagree. Yes, it's kind of cool to be reminded of the movies that The Duffer Brothers pay homage to, but Stranger Things really succeeds with it's characters, particularly it's young leading cast. Visual references can only go so far (and did for some), but the story would hold no weight if not for the talent and charisma of Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and especially Millie Bobby Brown. The kids have an instant rapport, and as the season progresses, you really grow to care for them; you want them to be happy and grow tense when they are in danger of getting hurt, both physically and emotionally. The adult cast holds their own as well; Winona Ryder does some of her best work in years as the emotionally distraught Joyce Byers, and David Harbour embodies the gruff, heroic leading man perfectly. Yet the smaller episode order doesn't restrict the growth of the characters. Even supporting characters like antagonistic Steve (Joe Keery) get a full arc, and minor characters like concerned friend Barb (Shannon Purser) and teacher Scott Clarke (Randall P. Havens) make an impact. The Netflix format suits the show very well, neatly structured and moving along at an exciting pace, yet not overstaying it's welcome at 8 episodes. By the end of the first season, the stories have closure while still leaving much more to be told in the future. I realize Stranger Things isn't the most revolutionary show out there. It doesn't tackle serious issues and embraces it's genre themes and influences wholeheartedly. However, there was no other show in 2016 that I had a better time watching; each episode felt like an event, and left me theorizing and anxious to find out what would happen next. Sometimes that's all you need with a story, and Stranger Things delivers.

The Vampire Stallyns/Bill & Ted fanfic~
                                         Chapter one/Intro
You probably know those two guys in your neighborhood that always hang out together and mess around all the time, not really caring about school or their music being played too loud. Well, Bill S. Preston Esquire and his friend Ted Theodore Logan were those kind of guys. The best of friends since their childhood, sharing everything together and having lots of things in common. But, the one thing that they both share and that no one knows is that they’re not just your regular next door neighbors, they are blood sucking and loving vampires. San Dimas was a quiet but strange little place, there were some suspicions, some myths going around but no one believed in those things. The vampire blood was always in them, but they weren’t aware of it until they’ve reached a certain age. Things started happening. they’ve started changing, in the most unusual ways until one day, fangs happened, the desire and an immense urge for blood happened. That night, they had their first hunt. It was an innocent one..well, in a way. They didn’t kill a human, they killed an animal but it served its purpose. It actually happened around this time of year, about two years ago. They still haven’t killed an actual human, they can’t do that, they’re not ready for such a thing..yet. But, they’ve been finding other sources of blood. Blood banks would often be their main feeding station, a dead animal or basically anything containing blood.
Their daily life didn’t have to do anything with who they were at night. Bill was that kid in the back of the class laughing for no particular reason and shouting the wrong answer even though he was absolutely positive it was right. A blond, curly, blue eyed boy..you could say he had that angelic appearance. Who would ever think that he could be a vampire? Ted on the other hand was a bit more reserved. A bashful tall guy with fluffy hair and brown puppy eyes, always smiling and looking innocent. No one in the world would believe them even if they said who they really were.
It was, however, different at night. Their yet uncontrollable urges and changes would cause them a few moments of pain before they’d turn into vampires. They would often collapse on the floor in their rooms, holding onto something until the pain goes away but when the pain stops, other things would begin to happen. Their self-esteem would grow, the shy personas would disappear and they would be ready for whatever comes in their way. The craving for blood is getting stronger now, the urge for human victims is growing every day. Will tonight be the night when they kill their first human ?
Chapter two coming tomorrow, stay tuned to find out

2019 Scrummer Reading List +
2019 Scrummer Reading List
It’s that time of year again  - and our annual reading list is back with a twist. For 2019 we’re expanding the suggestions from the Scrum Inc. Team to include podcasts and even some TV shows.
We’re hoping to add your suggestions to the list. What book/podcast or TV show do you binge on at the beach (or by the fire for our friends in the Southern Hemisphere)? Or just enjoy enough that you want to share?
Jeff Sutherland, Founder and Principal Consultant of Scrum Inc. and co-creator of Scrum recommends:
"Counterpart" American Sci-Fi Thriller Series (TV)
What might be different if a person could co-exist in an alternate world? This is the premise explored in the two seasons of this sci-fi show with spies and intrigue that has captured Jeff's attention and makes him wonder how he would manage if he could exist in two universes.
JJ Sutherland, Chief Executive Officer recommends:
"Blueprint: The Evolutionary Origins of a Good Society " by Nicholas A. Christakis.
This book explores the interesting idea that societies are fundamentally good, and not raw in tooth and claw as some imagine. In fact, the good parts of societies are the truest part and a huge evolutionary advantage. A really heartening book in the incredibly polarized times we live in. The concept is actually very much in line with Scrum: "Have a system that frees people to do good, and they will." It’s our basic nature.
McCaul Baggett, Coach and Trainer recommends:
“Training from the Back of the Room” by Sharon L. Bowman
McCaul's favorite Scrum role is that of Scrum Master. And he has a passion for improving his ability to facilitate and bring out the best in the organizations and teams he works with. Which is why “Training from the Back of the Room" is his beach reading of choice. This book has made our list before, but its 65 training strategies are effective and innovative to this day and well worth a read.
Patrick Roach, Chief Product Owner, Training & Consulting recommends:
"Moonwalking with Einstein" by Joshua Foer
Patrick is one of our team in love with this book about the quest to understand the relationship between humans and memory. As stated in the book's description, “This is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.”
Veronica Ruiz, Director, Marketing and Communications recommends:
How to Fail with Elizabeth Day - Podcast
How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is a podcast that celebrates the things that haven’t gone right. Every week, a new interviewee explores what their failures taught them about how to succeed better. Honest and candid interviews with celebrities across all walks of life exploring their failures and how these events changed the direction of their life, for the better. Interviews are warm and in-depth. The host does a great job getting guests to openly share when and how things went badly. Veronica says: "It actually feels like a chat with friends!"
Avi Schneier, Scrum Master, Sales, Trainer & Coach recommends:
Teach Like Socrates: Guiding Socratic Dialogues and Discussions in the Classroom by Eric Wilberding
The Socratic Method is about meeting students where they are and leading them to greater understanding. The same can be used by an Agile Coach to help the team find their best way forward. This book is meant for the middle & high school classroom, but the principles can be used by all of us on the path of servant leadership.
Alex Uriarte, Scrum Master, Trainer recommends:
Dare to Lead  by Brené Brown
“The courage to be vulnerable is not about winning or losing, it’s about the courage to show up when you can’t predict or control the outcome.”  This is one of the lessons from the book that offers practical teachable skills for developing "brave leaders and courageous cultures." These skills benefit the leaders and the business they work in. Alex was drawn to learning and practicing these skills as well as teaching these skills.
Arline Sutherland, Chief of Operations, Trainer recommends:
"The Friend"  by Sigrid Nunez
As a dog lover, Arline was drawn to this book because of the dog on the cover. While the photogenic dog is a character, it is not the thrust of the narrative. This is a beautifully written novel about life, friendship - the difficult parts as well as the poignant aspects, loss, grief and moving through.
Mark Rosania, Product Owner, Transformation Services recommends:
"BBQ&A" by Myron Mixon
Mark and his family recently moved to North Carolina. And his suggestion is all about the South’s signature summer food - BBQ. As Mark rightly notes, “Myron Mixon is one of the kings of BBQ. I am new to smoking and this book takes you from the basics to the point of being able to produce some wonderful food. I like things that appear simple but are really quite complex. Scrum's that way as well.”
  Tom Bullock, Storyteller recommends:
“Sous Vide at Home: The Modern Technique for Perfectly Cooked Meals" by Lisa Fetterman
Tom is another Scrum Inc team member who loves to cook. Especially if the style is “low and slow”. When his backyard smoker isn’t in use his sous vide is working away. This cookbook, Tom says, is "a great mix of beginning and advanced recipes. as good for the beginner as those with experience."
But what can you do while you wait for those perfectly slow-cooked meals to finish? Tom began his career in radio and is still loves to listen to a well-told, informative story. So he also suggests these podcasts:
TED Talks Business - “I like the mix of subject and deliveries. Even subjects I’m not naturally drawn to seem to pull me in.”
HBR Ideacast - “It’s like Fresh Air for the business-minded listener”
Revolutions - “One of the best history podcasts period. Especially interesting to me was the 1848 revolutions in Europe. A warning to all of us that better ideas and systems don’t always win out just because they’re better.”
      Brandon Cole, Art Director recommends:
"The Scrum Fieldbook: A Master Class on Acclerating Performance Getting Results, and Defining the Future"  by JJ Sutherland
Brandon got his hands on this a bit earlier than its public release, but let me tell you... you're going to want to preorder and read it. The book is based on years of work in the field with scores of companies including Bosch, 3M, Schlumberger, and Saab, The Scrum Fieldbook delivers a hands-on, practical approach for successfully implementing the Scrum framework in any domain. You can preorder your own at the link above.
