OG Bad Batch Fighting Styles TCW + TBB Ep 1
I meant to actually do the whole Bad Batch series too but alas. Here are the various things I’ve noted about their fighting styles based on what we saw in TCW and the TBB: Aftermath! Plus a headcanon or two.
Enjoy~* EDIT: Tumblr killed the format :(
Hunter
Acrobatics over power
Jaguar
My boy be pouncin’ all over the damn place
Leg sweeps
Weapon of Choice: Vibroblade or pistol
Sergeant Shaggy McStabby
Quick and brutal strikes, doesn’t leave enemy time to regroup
Switches between pistol and knife
Rush enemy head on→TCW S7E1
“Parkour!”
Watch out for them leggies
Cody-level kicks
Crosshair
Distance attacks (sniper, duh)
Loner and commonly fights alone
Rarely fights head on
Weapon of choice: Firepuncher Rifle he calls “Dauntless” (headcanon) and pistol
Never misses a shot
Main special attack→ Reflecto-Patches
Hints towards an affinity for judging angles/mathematics
Fights dirty in hand to hand
Tries to take out enemy from behind
HC→ When fighting organics, goes for pressure points
Leverage over power
Rarely moves quickly but is actually quite acrobatic
Sliding maneuver TCW S7E2
Surfin’ USA TBB S1E1
Unless you count getting flying side thrust kicked by a tween
Spooky scary sniper man
Stays out of direct fire and prefers a silent yet deadly ambush attack
Lookout and scout for more stealthy missions
Designated Driver→ TCW S7E1
Possible weakness: Bright flashes of light
TCW deleted scene S7E3 on pipe with lightning flash
He and Wrecker always have a “game” of who can take out the most droids
Crosshair often wins, apparently
Smug little shit
Can and will use legit anything as a deadly projectile
Blade, dart, lunch tray, hairbrush, look out it’s comin’ for you
Wrecker
Brute force→ Mutation
Lifted gunship, held up a leg of the giant whatever-that-thing-is in S7E3
Weapon of choice: Fists or giant vibro blade
Special Attacks
Wrecking Ball
“Let me see what you have.” “A knife!” “NO!”
“YEET”
Crushing power
Often gloats over defeated enemies
Somewhat sadistic
Exhibit A: TCW S7E4 “Not the face!”
Despises stealth
Impatient
Often takes the lead on frontal assaults
Often lays down cover fire/stays behind to give others more time
Does not follow orders
Literally any episode is an example
The bigger the odds, the happier he is
Weakness→ Heights
Basically Rico
“Kaboom!”
Jokes a lot when fighting
Dogpile on sentients→ TBB S1E1
Bit of a literal take on “I am the weapon”
Tech
Quick strikes
Agility and speed over physical power
TBB S1E1→ Zips in to place multiple detonators then remotely activates them
Outwits and outflanks, rarely uses a direct attack
Prefers to let others cover him while he uses a variety of distance weaponry
Not a melee fighter
But watch out for those legs (TBB S1E1)
Uses environment
Twin pistols
Highly sensitive when working with circuits→ Blocks everything else out while working with them
Quickly switches from “battle mode” once the fight is over
Nonchalant even during battle
Rarely seems bothered by anything
Tactics can verge on suicidal
“We jump!”

So how long are we thinking that the Siege of Mandalore lasted?
In TCW S7, they showed Anakin and Obi-wan running directly from dropping Ahsoka off at Mandalore to the Battle of Coruscant that opens ROTS. Obi-wan even says they can get there in an hour.
However that's the beginning of the movie. Padme announces her pregnancy at the beginning of the movie and gives birth at the end. There's multiple months between the beginning and the end based on that. But Ahsoka is leaving Mandalore as Order 66 takes place.
Based on this handy screenshot from TCW S7E2, Padme is just showing, so approx 4 earth months along. Dunno how Anakin can't know with her standing there with her hand in the traditional pregnant lady position, but kinda beside the point.
Tumblr media
Presumably the earliest Order 66 could take place is about 4 months after that, just based on the size of the twins. They also had time to run off and conduct the Battle of Utapau and the Battle of Kashyyyk between the beginning of ROTS and the end.
So was Ahsoka on Mandalore for months? Did the siege last months or were they just chilling after catching Maul?

TCW S7E2: A Distant Echo
Sadly no Cody, but to make up for it: OBI-WAAAAAAAAAANN!!!! He was only in it for a minute, but he left an impression!
I can’t express much about Rex and Echo except some upset flailing, so I’m going to leave it to someone more capable and coherent.
I am going to ramble/gossip about the Obi-Wan scenes we got, because I feel like they have quite a few implications.
The scene with Obi-Wan and Anakin and the comment about Padme is...something.
Rex definitely knows about the relationship, though maybe not how much. It feels like he’s wingmanning, but since he’s a subordinate and really can’t disobey it feels sort of mean of both Anakin and Obi-Wan to put him in the middle of this. But Rex knows, and it feels like Anakin simply told him.
I’m pretty positive Obi-Wan knows, again maybe not everything. But I don’t think he’d have kept pushing if it wasn’t something he already knew and felt Anakin should just come clear about. But we always figured he knew, and this is pretty good proof.
Most interesting to me though, is that he let Anakin know he knew. I mean, Anakin can be thick sometimes, but how else would he explain that comment? I wonder if they’ll come back to it because his reaction was pretty calm. Considering most fics would have him freaking out at least a little bit. It really does put his refusal to confide in Obi-Wan during ROTS in a whole new light.
I now also wonder if any time those two interact this season will have Obi-Wan dropping hints. It’d be hilarious.

what if anakin was actually the bad batch's general?
- can you imagine the chaos they would cause? the batch would follow his orders and respect him no matter what. but you know anakin, how he doesn't follow orders directly. so they would disobey orders together and they would have so much fun.
- anakin would get along with all of them just like he already did with 501st. but he would have a special connect all of them since they are only 4 people.
- he would talk with tech about everything and anything since they are both smart, tech would like to learn ways of the force from him and anakin would love to answer him.
- he would always find a way to explode things because he knows that wrecker loves it.
- remember tcw s7e2? crosshair let anakin touch his rifle and after when anakin gave it back to him, anakin just shook his head to crosshair. they never talked as much as we see. and this gives me the vibe that they would talk through actions. you know what i mean?
- also anakin would love to compete with him about who's more good at rifle.
- and with hunter, anakin would be careful with him because of his senses. he wouldn't want his sergeant to get hurt. he would always remind him if he needs a break, he can take a break.
- the batch would also get along with ahsoka of course, who wouldn't?
- no wonder they would see her as a little sister.
- and no wonder that wrecker would call her 'the tiny commander' or 'the tiny jedi'
- btw of course tech would know his not so secret relationship with padmé. he would say, "of course, i knew it sir. it was so obvious. i don't understand why no one else got suspicious so far." and anakin would be ✨freak out✨ and go straight to padmé and say, "padmé! we are so obvious!" (as if he cares about it.)
- crosshair would know about it too because he is good at observing. when anakin makes up excuses to meet up with padmé, he would know anakin is lying but he wouldn't say anything, he would stay there and smirk while his general sneak around.

My Huntech clowning ass:
Hunter in TCW, s7e2: "I want that thing off my ship."
Hunter in TBB, s1e2: "Getting our ship impounded is not my idea of a solution!"
Tech in TBB, s1e4: "Wrecker, easy with my ship."
So what you're saying is that the Havoc Marauder has two dads and they fight over custody when it's convenient for them.
Make sense. I'm in.

No but it's...

the way they naturally fall into eachother's roles when the other isn't there.
Tumblr media
the instinctual head-tilt when Crosshair stabilized his rifle on Tech's shoulder, as if they'd done it a thousand times before.
It's the fact that Tech clearly told Phee all about his brother.
It's the sad, fond smile on Crosshair's face when Omega said Tech made her memorize all the plans ("of course he did").
It's the way Tech knew exactly where to look for that mirror.

i was reading some ~discourse~ about crosshair’s behavior in s7e2, and kinda-sorted had an out-of-body experience -- mostly because people seem to be missing the point of the “reg” name-calling bit.
we know that mutations, desirable or not, have been pretty widely condemned up to this point in the six season canon of tcw -- societal norms established on kamino & within clone ranks are pretty clear that being different is bad and that being different is grounds for reconditioning. look at tup, look at fives, look at anyone going against the grain and how they’re treated by those around them + upper ranks, be it cloners or jedi.
i mean, look at king 99 -- in the beginning, he’s treated like garbage. straight up trash. you can see “regular” clones hold a lot of pity for him, because he’s not like his brothers and he’s unfit for war, the literal two things the clones are bred for. he’s walked all over. the brunt of jokes. made fun of. so much.
so, of course the handful of mutated clones kept around bc their mutations were “desirable” are going to feel like outsiders. and their existence isn’t gonna sit well with a number of clones thanks to the norms they’ve established -- especially when i’m sure some of them have seen their brothers taken for reconditioning or even offed for displaying genetic differences akin to the bad batch’s.
so “reg” being tossed around is just a way for the bad batch to throw the years of shit i’m sure they took during basic training back in the faces of those who ribbed them -- or, people who look like them. it’s defiance in the face of fear, and it’s a preventative reaction by a group that’s been trodden all over.
most of the batch, upon realizing that rex holds them as equals, drops the name around him. but, crosshair doesn’t.
his mutation -- being a good shot, having good eye-sight -- is most likely common. and i think he knows that. i think crosshairs knows he’s lucky he isn’t one of the other regs sent to reconditioning or offed, probably holds a lot of guilt, too. the bit about “he’s just another reg” really speaks to how deeply engrained this hatred towards normal troopers goes in him.
anyways, crosshairs was a dick this episode and i’m glad rex decked him
