if i had to guess why tai and van broke up i would say it’s because of the way they chose to deal with the crash. tai’s approach for the most part seemed to be live as if the crash never happened. she goes to university, law school, dates a lot, gets married, essentially doing everything she would have done anyway. i have no doubt that she would have asked van to go with her but i think van would want to deal with the crash and specifically tai’s sleepwalking. unlike tai, van remembers it all, tying herself to tai every night, tackling her so she doesn’t fall off a cliff. van of course is a true believer so she would have wanted to find out more about the wilderness and everything connected to it, but tai who is a leader and hates the idea of no longer being in control of her body would probably not want to relive those memories. so tai forces her way forward through life and tries to live the life another version of her would have had and van forces her way back to a time when the wilderness didn’t exist because if tai is gone and lottie is gone then so is van’s connection to the wilderness. and if she can’t be connected to the wilderness she can’t move forward in a world she no longer understands the rules of

hi novel! do you have any meta / thoughts on taissa’s relationships with simone and sammy? I really want them to go into that more, similar to the shauna-jeff-callie storyline in s2
Simone and Sammy are what should have been. The life Taissa would have led if they’d never crashed. Even if it wasn’t Simone, even if it was Van, the idea of the perfect happy family is what matters. I think it matters that she’s the only one we see have a warm moment with her parents before the crash; that would shape her whole outlook. Grow up, go to good schools, get a great job, marry a beautiful woman, build a life that makes sense. And we know from Tai telling Shauna about her dream life: this is exactly the path she takes. Shauna’s dreams change utterly as soon as they crash; Tai, the bastion of repression, doesn’t change hers at all. She comes home, and she’s different, she’s traumatized, she has lost and hurt and has all these horrible dark secrets—but she believes if she just works hard enough, she can overwrite the shadows with the light of a life she’s wanted all along.
The problem with this as it applies to Simone and Sammy is they’re not plans, they’re not dreams, they’re people—and to have the meaningful, wonderful relationships that make that Perfect Life, she needs to be able to communicate with them as such. And she doesn’t. She doesn’t let herself. She won’t explain anything of what she went through to her wife; even when push comes to panicked shove, she just demands Simone leave her alone. She doesn’t even feel that “it” factor when it comes to Simone, because she can’t let herself. She’s forever tied intensity of feeling to a loss of control, a loss of who she was “meant to be” before the accident.
Her family, her job, all of it is emblematic of Before Tai. The Tai who didn’t have a sleepwalking problem, who never watched her girlfriend get nearly mauled to death, who never ate her friends to stay alive, who never gave into the hunt. It can’t ever be healthy, for her or for Simone and Sammy, until she accepts that Before Tai is gone. She’s been stitched together with the Taissa who survived the wilderness. And accepting that runs contrary to the perfect life she’s tried so hard to create. She can fall back into old habits with her old friends and old love, but the new version of her? That Taissa isn’t allowed those behavior patterns.
It’s really interesting looking at her family vs Shauna’s, because 1) they’re the only two of the core six to build a traditional family post-rescue, and 2) Shauna tries to play the same game—except the “dream life” she’s living isn’t Shauna’s at all. It’s Jackie’s. Or what she feels she stole from Jackie. And because of that, because Jeff and Callie were never Shauna’s dream, I think it makes it a little easier to let them into the darkness. Tai won’t let herself do that, because it’d be admitting a kind of defeat, and that really isn’t Tai’s style.

Is Mon only setting up Perrin or are they both performing for Kloris?
Seriously though. It was very well-played, but it also felt like it was potentially a setup in order to feed the ISB false information on both their parts. They obviously speak off screen and they’ve been shown to collaborate with each other during Mon’s dinner parties to raise votes. I just think that there is more than meets the eye with those two. Like the tension and disagreements are real and the petty bid to get Mon’s attention by arguing over Leida (which I feel is based on real love and jealousy on Perrin’s part, more on that later). But I think that he knows at least a little if not anything remotely near to the whole truth. He may only know that she’s misplaced some funds for her charity and is being watched. After all, we already know that Davo and Perrin communicate on occasion. Mon could be feeding various parties just enough information to stop them from realizing what she is really up to, just as she said in Episode 7. She’s an irritation. She’s gotten herself a little too embroiled in her own harmless politics, nothing more.
I think that Mon Mothma has learned as much from Luthen Rael as from Palpatine. She tells Tay Kolma what he needs to know and then tells Tay that Perrin cannot be trusted whilst also entrusting Perrin with a very little bit.
Mon Mothma is possibly a lot sneakier than she appears. Like she said, it’s a lie. And she feels guilty about it.

*kung fu panda 4 au where tigress and po are getting married in secret and tai lung is alive and trying to get redemption*
Po to Tai Lung so he doesn't piss Tigress off: Look, it's our tea wedding ceremony, okay? If you were getting married, I’d never do anything to upset you.
Tai Lung with an unimpressed look:When I got married, you slept with my sister. You know Tigress!
Po with a happy smile when he thinks about it: That was pretty amazing...for me.

i don't think van is very into labels. while van is extremely committed to tai, it's not this 'tai is my girlfriend or would be my wife' thought process. they're together in the wilderness, they were messing around before the wilderness, but without the wilderness, that's really all it would have been. van isn't a person who expects a relationship, especially not in the 90s. she's not ashamed of her identity, either as a lesbian or a nonbinary person, and does not care if people know and eventually ensures that they always have a safe space for LGBTQIA+ youth and adults, but they're not into the committed relationship vibes.

is sammy on that list w actual confirmed abusers because of the rape joke he made or has he done something that im not aware of ??
for me its the pattern of behavior with him. got in trouble for the threatening rape comments, did classes, acted like he learned, nothing else. then went back to making similar comments with no repercussions. add the fact his 'creative' issues with impact, the fact he got into two physical altercations himself with other wrestlers because he overstepped *their* consent.
so as far as i know there's no confirmed abuse/abuse allegations, but the way he talks about/jokes about women makes him a sex pest & predator. the addition to that is the obvious issues he has with consent even in nonsexual situations.

The fundie logic post broke containment and it's really funny seeing the replies vary from "that's a little extreme I think you were on the far side of fundie" to people being like "oh yeah it goes way deeper." The second group are the right ones.
Like... There's second generation people my age who were homeschooled fundie by their homeschool fundie parents and now homeschooling their kids fundie too. I was allowed to go to Christian school and dream of Bible College. Yeah, it was to get an MRS degree, but education is power. I didn't even have to learn to swim in ankle length cotton skirts.
