Ah yes, the Rainwings, a.k.a. "the ones where my friends will disown me if I get them wrong". I ended up making some changes here; particularly with Coconut, who is depicted as green in the graphic novels but described as lavender in the books. I tried to do something with elements from both. This had a bit of a knock-on effect on Siamang, because having two purples in the set seemed a bit lame for a group that's supposed to be really vibrant and colorful, so I went a bit off-script there. This is the result; I hope it is palatable.

Also, that makes 36. 36 dragons.

Nick would be Brick.

Brick is the leader of the rowdyruff boys as well as the oldest. He started off very evil and still had respect for his brothers, but eventually changed. When HIM brought them back to life, he was very cocky, arrogant, and devious. I don't think Nick is evil but, we know how he can get depending on the situation. I mean Nick said it himself when he gets angry he is scared of himself, so i feel like it adds up. Both Nick and Brick have a tendency to pick on their brothers so it adds up. In the show, Brick and Butch tended to gang up on Boomer so it makes sense for Nick to be Brick considering Nick does team up with Chris on Matt. I also think red compliments Nick very well, especially when he has the red-brown hair thing going on. Brick's main ingredient is puppy dog tail, now we aren't harming any animals so I feel like Nick's ingredient would be a beat up pair of shoes. super dirty from running around and doing who knows what.

Matt would be Boomer

Boomer is the middle child of the rowdyruff boys, categorized as the dumb blonde with blue eyes. Matt isn't dumb though, he just doesn't have a chance to speak because his brothers gang up on him and interrupt him, much like Boomer. After Boomer's resurrection from HIM, he became a loudmouth and fought back. I see that in Matt. Nick and Chris joke about him trying to be tough, but I see it as him standing up for himself, and making his voice heard. Even though Boomer is considered evil, he is still polite. I see that in Matt, he can be mean/aggressive when need be, but for the most part, he is polite. blue looks so damn good on Matt, it's my fav color on him (besides pink.) Boomer's main ingredient is armpit hair. Ion know about yall but I'm not snipping any armpit hair so I feel like Matt's main ingredient would be a hockey stick and a blue slurpee.

Chris would be Butch

Butch is the youngest of the rowdyruff boys, categorized as the chaotic, havoc-reaping, little brother. idk about yall but that is Chris to a T!!! He is so mf chaotic it's mindblowing. There was an episode where Butch poured Gatorade on Mojo Jojo and all I can think about is Chris pouring drinks on Nick in the car. At first when Butch was introduced he was more calm and collected, agreeing with what his brothers wanted to do. When HIM resurrected the boys, that's when Butch became a little chaos gremlin. I feel like that works with Chris because he is calm and collected for the most part and then suddenly he's jumping around and making the most noise. Very hyperactive, jolly, and likes causing chaos. Both Butch and Chris have a tendency to twitch when they get excited, making crazy noises, grinning like a mad man, and flailing their arms. Typical little brother energy. Butch's color is green and I think Chris needs to wear it more. It really makes his eyes pop and the way it matches his hair just does sum to me. Butch's main ingredient is snail, it's so obvious and has been done but I just now his main ingredient would be a Pepsi...just to be original I feel like his other ingredient would be a burp or cough😭

NOTE: I imagine he’d do street art and have spray paint stains all the time. He’s got headphones, probably to block out noise once in a while, especially when running the track. Idk if athletes actually can wear these on the track, but it’s a nice thought.

NOTE: Dear Ames was so fun to draw, mostly because of her hair and her pose. She’s so cute. I debated on giving her a new outfit but decided her red dress was adorable; I just added the pink tights last minute cause I thought it’d be cute as well. I LOVE her boots.

TAILS

NOTE: My boy. My darling. My baby. I was immediately reminded of Hiro Hamada and little Nico di Angelo when I met Tails, so I had to incorporate my favs into this study somehow. Iykyk. I thought making his hair have white tips (like the og Tails’ two tails) was clever xD

NOTE: MOTHER. She is so. Ugh. I LOVE her. I added the bat because. Bat. Aren’t I so clever (Don’t answer that). I like to think that she does everyone’s nails, tattoos, and piercings. She’s got her apartment open for the gang to hang out whenever; she adores them and they love her sm. (Same) Also PEAK fashion sense!!

KNUCKLES

NOTE: My man!!! Knucks was the most fun to draw, tbh. His shoes are so silly, his colors are so vibrant and strong, and I love drawing him looking serious when I know he’s my goofy goober. (I mean yes he’s more than capable of knuckle-yeeting me into Kingdom Come, but he’s still my silly not-little guy)

Will you review the Maraquan pets? I think Buzz is my favorite based on design, and there are so many really creative/punny ones. Personally, I’ve never liked Wocky.

Maraqua is probably one of Neopets' most distinct lands given that it's, you know, underwater. The idea of making a color that fits with the Atlantis-esq aesthetic just makes logical sense, and the actual designs tend to be pretty cool. I like how there's actual thought put into how [X] Neopet would function if it was adapted to life underwater, with the bubbling pit area vaguely implying it might be a natural mutation (given the amount of "painted" Maraquan pets we see in Maraqua).

Maraquan also didn't do too badly with customization, mostly because they're not compatible with normal clothing anyway so the poses are at least somewhat distinct. That said, it is weird that they changed the poses at all; they already have to have clothing drawn specifically for them, so why force things like fists onto some of them? It's so weird.

Even weirder is the seemingly arbitrary decisions regarding which ones got UC versions; Maraquan Chombys barely changed at all yet somehow got a UC, while Maraquan Zafaras changed drastically but never got a UC. What gives?

(I can't count it on the favorites list because there are too many good still-obtainable Maraquan pets, but shoutout to the unconverted Maraquan Zafara for being one of my favorite Maraquan pets. Shame it's no more.)

Favorite Species:

Gelert: While the unconverted Maraquan Zafara is my all-time favorite Maraquan pet, the Maraquan Gelert is a very close second, and is definitely my fav if we're talking pets that are still obtainable. I love Maraquan pets where the design is just abstract, taking cues from various sea creatures without being a 1:1 parallel of them, and the Gelert is particularly beautiful in this respect. It plays with the Gelert's long ears and tails by making it vaguely eel-ish—adding in a back fin, a few spots, and a lovely green and purple color scheme.

The UC version is particularly gorgeous, having this lovely flow that curves back from the head and leads straight into the curled tail. The converted version is still fine, as it's a fairly accurate recreation all things considered, but the pose is much more awkward (the body suggests an S shape, but the paws and ears are going opposite directions and the chest sticks out too much).

It does, however, at least fix the shading; for some reason the UC Maraquan Gelert has one layer of shading with no highlights or shadows to speak of, which is really weird. (See the above, which is an edit I made years ago that just adds the layers of shading that the actual UC is missing. The lineart should also probably be thinner but I digress.) Anyway, the point is that both are beautiful designs.

Uni: Maraquan Uni are also really beautiful. Similar to a Peophin (arguably too much so, but hey, there's no Maraquan Peophin at the time of writing anyway), they've swapped their legs for a tail and their wings and mane have become fins themselves, with a pretty curved horn and some subtle striping to boot. Even better, the converted version is basically the same as the old art, so there's no difficulty in obtaining one (other than the PB cost, of course).

Lutari: While there are still a lot of great abstract Maraquan designs that I love (Eyrie, Draik, etc.), I have to give a shoutout to the Lutari for being a really great design based off of an obvious animal (in this case, an axolotl). The cream and pink color scheme is lovely, and I love the subtle mottle gradients on its limbs. The multiple sets of ears forming the gills is fantastic, the tail is pretty, the black claws add contrast, and it still reads really clearly as a Lutari despite the animal influence. Really good stuff.

Least Favorite Species:

Kacheek: The Maraquan Kacheek just looks incredibly uncanny to me. The best Maraquan pets are either ambiguous or choose an animal that fits the Neopet, but here they just... took a Kacheek head and slapped it on a goldfish body??? Don't like that at all. The head in isolation isn't terrible and I could see it working on a more Kacheek-ish torso, but this... no. At least it's nicely drawn on a technical level, I suppose?

Made my own take on Angel Dust for Fun!!! Angel Dust is one of my top favs!!!💖💖💖

Don’t get me wrong, LOVE his mafia fashion but since he’s hiding from his family, hence why he made the deal with Val, At the time being he’s leaning more into the Drag Queen aesthetic. @a-sterling-rose was the one who made me consider this!!!!!💖

Was going for a mix of vintage vibes mixed with modern elements. Hint at his origins and how he's trying to move on from his past.

Pushed more for webstripes since he’s a spider and wanted to incorporate the stripes to feel more 40’s but with modern tweaks🕸️ Was also going for a heart motif💖

Gave him two sets of legs with his two sets of arms to help push the spider vibe. Also added spider fangs and made the eyes bigger. Also gave him a spider booty! Sterling also made me consider that!!!

For my redesigns I wanna go for a rainbow motif 🌈, that songs forever in my head so for Angel I’m going with the color violet! Figure it’s fitting for his style and personality💜 Went for more purplish pinks likes fuschia which is considered a shade of violet! I imagine he’d gradually get more purple in his look in time.

Added more stripes on his hair and tail. Was going for a heart bump💖💖💖

GAVE HIM EXTRA FLOOF! Also made him curvier since he now has two legs.

Extra fact, the choker he’s wearing was a gift from Val💔

In middle school she made a deal to give up her good voice to Azul in exchange for a pretty fin to impress a boy. Sorry this took a while! I present Spark and Steam twins born from Lantern and my mewtwo oc Ai! This was a brilliant brain exercise for me thank you so much for the ask!

Steam got Ais eyes there abouts with her having glass art piece eyes so they've got weird eyes and are a mix of Ais and Lanterns colors and patterns with some face pattern inspiration from Imp cause grandmama

Sparks colors actually hail more from grandma Imp too! With Lanterns oranges probably reawakening Imps pink oranges in Ais dna and then I couldn't fit blue cry XD Sparks eyes were inspired by Lanterns being halfie and are a kinda in between from Ais green and Lanterns red to yellow orange ground to look nice. The secondary tail stripe color is actually a blue reduced in visibility so some blue in design! Got the Axel family blue tail stripe gene if less visible. Spark also has a sharper snoot like how Lanterns is angled dunno if an art style choice but I interpreted it as a pointed sharp snoot

Obviously tried to mix and fuse their horns they best I could fav thing to do, these were fun tho!!

It was like a pair of eyes was stuck to your body like glue and made you feel particularly vulnerable. As you watched the last of the sunlight fade and the pale pastel pink moon become more prominent in your view…your body began to feel extremely heavy, like being tied down with cinderblocks and being prodded with rose thorns. You also began to feel heat pool between your thighs.

‘Why?’ ‘What?’ Were the only thoughts that came to your mind. As the world around you became hazy and your vision began to fill with glittery pink smoke, the clouded your vision. You felt inebriated. You felt high. It was pure ecstasy.

Sawgrass - pretty standard mudwing design. i gave him embedded emeralds and a tail band to signify him as royal

Egret- trying to incorporate pale mudwing designs. i gave her orange to represent the "beak" of an egret.

Anhinga - I gave her both orange and pale markings to tie her to egret's design

Bayou - pale blue teardrop gems because shes a nervous wreck :heart:

Copperhead - i gave him copperhead snake patterning and blue flowers from his rainwing bf

Possum - i tried to invoke possum patterns in his design. did it work? eh

Silverwash - literally my monarch design but greyscale minus the wings. since shes the first "silkwing" mentioned in the book of clearsight i figured shes probably one of the early queens from when the tribe first split and gave her some slight beetlewing vibes (the extra snout horns)

The Prophetess - clearsight inspired, also a little baphomet coded maybe? it didnt come through in the final design but whatevs

Rowan - clearly based on romeo from romeo and juliet. red and heart patterns

Juniper - clearly based on juliet from romeo and juliet. blue and heart patterns

Ash - clearly based on anne from anne of green gables. ash trees are not orange but anne had orange hair

Guava - clearly based on gilbert from anne of green gables. guavas are pink : ]

Linden - linden trees have yellow flowering so i tied her to my sundew design. also i think she and sequoia were in lesbians with each other

Alphonse looked out into the world around him.

There was an old coulpe on their porch, drinking their morning tea. The old man waved at the young man, and bellowed a "G'morning!". They were pretty much one of the few people who didn't hate Al for the way he presented himself.

A stray black cat swayed across his path, tail perked up and ears alert. The pastel colored man knelt down and clicked his tongue, calling the stray to come to him. "C'mere, You lil shit." He never gave the cat a name. He didn't see any reason to. The cat is old and probably wouldn't respond anyways.

The cat purred as his hand groomed it's fur, warm considering the chilly, fall weather.

"You've been doing good? Not in any trouble," He asked the feline like it were a neighbor.

It meowed and purred more, and he just smiled. "Good. Now get outta here. Go catch a rat or somethin'," he said as he patted it's head, and shooed it away.

Al looked up to see a familiar house a few doors down. Your house. He thought to himself. "Huh.. Boo's been radio silent for a few days.."

Now that wasn't not normal. You forget to get back to him sometimes, and that'd be okay. What concerned Al was you not being active on any social media. Discord, insta, nothing.

"Eh, popping in wouldn't hurt."

Al walked up the stairs, and he saw your mail from yesterday still on your doorstep. "Huh.. weird.." He picked up the envelopes and rang the doorbell.

"Boooooooo! Mail delivery from a very handsome mailmannnn," Alphonse playfully announced.

He heard footsteps, and finally, after a few moments, the door opened.

"Heyyy, Sugarplum!! Ya neglectin ya mail now or what?"

"Hey, babe.." you yawned. You looked pale and tired.

Al walked in and looked at you, confused. "You feeling alright, Sweetie? You don't look well." He placed his hand on your forehead and cheek, seeing if you were raising a fever.

"Yeah.. I uh.. started my period last night. I've been sleeping on the couch since then. Sorry," you explained to your tall, pink haired boyfriend.

You and Al have been together for awhile now. He knows how bad your period can get. Hell, he's had dates before you. He knows having a uterus can suck, especially if it basically self destructs ever month.

Al shut the door, shed his baby blue jacket and hung it on the coat hanger. "Awh, I'm sorry, Boo. Why didn't you tell me earlier? You know I love couch snuggles," Al questioned, now holding your face with both of his hands.

You looked up at him, your eyes droopy from your recently interrupted nap. "Again. Been sleeping all day."

"Ah. Well, I'm here now, and Doctah Alphonse is in."

"Al, I'm shedding the lining of my uterus. Not coming down with a cold," You teased. "All I need is rest and more snacks."

The blue eyed himbo lit up. "I could get you snacks!! And we could get out the air mattress and sleep there in the living room! Oh oh oh! And we can watch all our favs on Netflix!"

"We can, but I'm not gonna promise I'm gonna stay up the whole time."

"That ain't a problem, Boo. You just sit back, relax and letcha boy take care of you." Al kissed your cheek and hugged you gently. "You make a list of things you need, text it to me and I'll get them for you, alright? I won't be long, okay?"

You nodded, nuzzled in your boyfriend's arms. "Can we stay like this for a few more minutes?" Al chuckled, kissing your head. "Yes, we can."

You both sway gently in the hallway in blissful silence for a few minutes, before Al left to go to the store to get you supplies.

The night followed with cuddles, snacks, binge watching movies and shows, and peaceful naps.

But before you could slip to sleep more, you felt your boyfriend kiss your forehead and rub your hair, whispering,

"Sleep tight, Baby. Let's hope you'll feel better in the morning."

Oh mannnnnn Neopets reviews…how do you feel about my fav, Blumaroo?

Blumaroos are very vaguely based off of kangaroos, but they don't share too much in common other than jumping ability and the -roo name. Instead, they have a great abstract design that feels pretty realistic while being a complete fantasy creature, with floppy trunk-like noses and details that they can bounce on.

Visually, the soft pink accents of the nose are complimented by the ears, and this base works as a good neutral to match any color. They have these nice dot eyes and smiles that capture their happy-go-lucky nature, and just have a nice shape to them. I also like them having their own land and distinct personalities; it helps them stick out a lot in my mind.

Customization-wise, the Blumaroo is a mixed bag. On the plus side, their old artwork was dated and needed a refresh (note the almost complete lack of shading). I like the way they're fatter now, the loss of the belly button is an improvement because it felt weird that they had one to begin with, and they come across as a bit happier in the new art.

But on the minus side, the lose of their old pose is a tragedy. Blumaroos bouncing and standing on their tails was one of their most interesting characters, and while it's obviously still a trait of the species, it's a shame that it's no longer shown in their art. This is particularly sad because their adorable heart-shaped feet are also hidden from view, which has the side-effect of no longer carrying the pink through the design as well as it used to.

I get that customization needed to regulate the poses a bit more, but seeing as each item has to be redrawn anyway, would it have been that hard to keep them on their tails? It's not like the Lutari where the pose would've made it difficult to see clothing or something. It's otherwise a fine conversion, but man, it would've been perfect if we got both the new art and old pose together.

Favorite colours:

Plushie: Blumaroos already look pretty huggable, but the plushie form ramps it up to 11. I love the soft blue color with just a few pops of color on the eyes and tail patch—it gives the impression of an old and much-loved plushie. The converted version isn't bad, but it unfortunately can't compete with the unconverted version, which has much bigger, floppier ears, a thicker tail, and a very cute pose.

Tyrannian: Speaking of colours that looked better unconverted, dang, the Tyrannian Blumaroo got it rough. I love the original's brows and horn-ears, with this nice neutral dappled brown serving as the base. The converted version had to change some things obviously, but it also feels like they didn't really try—why doesn't it keep the same expression (unconverted Darigan Blumaroos have different eyes, so it's obviously not a problem to change them)? Why is the brown on the tail so much lighter to the point where it's barely noticeable? Why is the ruff now red instead of the dark brown of the wings? Why are the horns so small, and why is the perspective wrong on them relative to the ears? Bleh. At least the original's still great.

Oil Paint: Thankfully, here's a Blumaroo color that looks great with the customized pose. Such a beautiful color palette, combining little strokes of colors with pretty flower-like blotches interspersed throughout. I love how the colors also flow with the body, like how the torso goes from green to red, or how there's red right around the feet. Lovely all around.
