A3! Event Story Translation “NEW ERA GARDEN” [Chapter 4]
An episode dedicated to Kasumi's feelings about his role and his past as a leader.
Kasumi
“Toshi-san, there’s this interesting rumor I’ve heard from an older lady.”
It’s hard to get the intonation right… The emphasis should be here…
“Kondo-san, I’ll stand guard here! I won’t let anyone escape!”
Kaede
Papa, are you playing as a woman?
Tsubaki
Or are you playing a guy?
Sakura
Which is it~?
Kasumi
Uh… Actually…
Kasumi
…Y-Yukio-san, this… is a mistake, right…?
Yukio
It’s not.
Kasumi
Eeh!? B-but I can’t believe I’m the only double cast…
Yukio
As for you, I wanted to see you play as both Kimigiku and Todo Heisuke.
You played Lady Shizuka in “Traces of a Dream” already, and just playing the beautiful Kimigiku is boring, isn’t it?
And I also want as many people as possible for the Ikedaya incident scene.
Kasumi
No, no, no, no way! I wouldn’t care much if it’s just a female only role, but I’ve been blank for too long and yet you already want me in the Ikedaya fight…!
It’s like a neighborhood kid getting caught in a gang leader fight!
Yukio
It’ll be fine. Yuzo said he’ll teach you.
Yuzo
…Yeah. Leave it to me. I’ll put you through the Shinsengumi hazing process.
Kasumi

(...Yuzo looked like a complete bully that time.)
This time, papa will play as two people, two roles at once, it’ll be a lot of work.
Kaede
You should practice a lot, then. Kaede and her friends always practice a lot of dances at the nursery.
Tsubaki
Do it everyday. You have to get it right.
Sakura
You’ll be able to do it after enough practice.

(In the other play I acted as Lady Shizuka after a long while of not playing female characters, and I got a lot of compliments from a lot of people. I'm looking forward to playing Kimigiku.)
(The only problem is Todo Heisuke… Hopefully… I’ll get the hang of it after some practice.)
(Now that I think about it, I remember the first time I was on stage there were three sword fights, it was a mess…)
“...Haah, haah, my bad…”
I’d be on my knees at first, it was hard to get up.
My body ached everywhere and my body felt heavy like steel.
It was as if the gravity only changed around me and pulled me down.
“...If the leader’s gonna be like this, there’s nothing to discuss, shouldn’t we just replace this guy?”
Syu-san’s bluntness and arrogance was nothing out of the ordinary, but it struck my heart this time.
I was pathetic and remorseful, I couldn’t even get myself to face them.
It was the first time I was assigned a role where I had to fight.
No matter how much I practiced, no matter how slow I took my time, I couldn’t reenact the movements properly at all.
I looked like I was doing a Lantern festival dance instead of having the form of a swordsman.
It’s no wonder that Syu-san, who taught it, was dismayed.
“Alright well, let’s leave the fight scene at that for today before you get hurt.”
I heard Yukio-san’s gentle voice interrupt and just bowed my head, devastated by my own shortcomings.
“...”
Yuzo looked at me like he wanted to tell me something, but with the state of my mind, I couldn't take another word, I left the rehearsal room as if to escape.
“...Today’s the day I’ll get it right.”
The next morning, I was determined and went to the rehearsal room early.
“Well, aren't you early?”
“Eh, Yuzo? Why are you…”
Immediately after that, he threw a wooden sword at me and Yuzo told me to prepare myself.
“Get in form.”
Subconsciously, I handled the wooden sword as Syu-san had taught me.
“Try to move the same way as I do.”
“But, Yuzo, your role…”
“I already got your movements memorized in my head. Try to keep up the pace.”
“—T-thanks.”
Repeating it over and over and adjusting the speed, eventually I got it right for the first time.
“Yes! Finally!”
I was able to keep up with the other members at the same pace.
The joy of being able to do something I couldn’t before welled up deep inside me.
“This is just the beginning. Go show Syu-san, that this role is yours alone.”
“...Yeah!”
Yuzo usually only smacktalks me, but he helps me out so casually like this when I’m going through something difficult.
He really is a reliable childhood friend.
As a way to show my gratitude for being helped like this,
I definitely made that role mine, and mine alone.
I made up my mind and got back into the flow of things.
Kasumi
(Back then, I felt like I had to do my absolute best as the leader of the Spring Troupe.)
(...I wonder if Sakuya-kun also had a tough time with fight scenes.)
Rather, the upcoming play, Sakuya-kun might come to see it…!?
(He adores me as the first Spring Troupe leader, I can’t just show Sakuya-kun an unseemly sword fight.)
Sigh…
(I got no choice, I’ll just have to suck it up and ask Yuzo for help.)
(In the story, Kimigiku supports the Shinsengumi from the shadows, meanwhile Todo Heisuke leaves the Shinsengumi later.)
(It overlaps with my desire to support MANKAI Company in the shadows in different ways despite my departure from the theater.)

Madoka: Ah, sorry. I was just imagining the two of you standing on that unfinished stage someday.
Shift: With your script, of course… right, Madoka?

Haruto: And I’ll be the lead, obviously.
Shift: No way, I’m not handing that role over to you.
Haruto: Hmph, then you better work even harder if you want to shoot for the top. Otherwise, there’s no way you’ll be standing on that stage.
Shift: Bet. Leave it to me.

Yukio: I was afraid to even think about it, and I didn’t want to say anything as to not interfere with anyone else’s plans. But I’ve been thinking about that ever since Reni and I had our fight and I just wanted to say that…
Yukio: Truly, I’ve always wanted to say that.
Zen: I getcha. Well, I’m livin’ in retirement with nothin’ else to do anyway. I’m with you.
Hiro: I’m also with you. I’ll stay this time until the end because I couldn’t protect what we had back then.
Syu: I suppose if everyone else is on board.
Yuzo: You’ve got my word. I’ll see this thing through.
Kasumi: You’re the one who said “I want to stay close to this troupe and love them forever”, aren’t you? There’s no going back on that now.
Kasumi: I’ll help in any way that I can!
Yukio: You guys… are you serious?
Reni: …I’m sure what you’ll do will continue to be utterly absurd. It’s irritating, but I’ll follow you.
Reni: You’ve been cleared of our long-standing grudge.
Syu: You’re sure piling it on, aren’t you?
Reni: There’s no denying it. I just thought differently then.
Yukio: HUH!? Scary…
Yukio: But are you really finally making peace with things?
Reni: I suppose so.
Yukio: …I’m glad. Because you’re the first person I ever wanted to spend the rest of my life making plays with, Reni.
Reni: --.
Reni: …Hmph, I’m probably the only person in the world who can go along with your recklessness.
Reni: There’s no avoiding it.

Not that I don't get it but why are none of the Tsuzuru fans (in-game) ever normal about him. Syu's the only OG leader who doesn't have the strongest connection to the troupe he was once in because that's not where "the great Minagi-sensei" is and he wants to start a fanclub. Meguru pretty much admitted that Tsuzuru is his favorite brother while having like 10 others and even went on to specify that he doesn't care about looking cool in front of them or their parents but does when it comes to Tsuzuru. Mizuno... well. Mizuno is Mizuno, I don't think I even need to elaborate on this one.

can i gush over the new 1st gen cards for a second. spoilers for the backstages under cut
when i tell you they know what the fans want THEY KNOW WHAT THE FANS WANT. they know the kind of people 1st gen fans are and it scares me cause why'd we get reni ponytail fanservice. do it more
like hell yeah give me more slice of life moments like that!!! and the fact that the godza kids complimented reni on his hairstyle??? shift calling him cute and reni being confused like cmon aegyo for us reni dont be shy
and listen i've been DYINGGG for crumbs of syu and tsumugi's dynamic because compared to the other three leader duos we don't have a good idea of what they are??? they hardly have as much interactions together is what i mean!!! they seem to be in this safe distance which is fine but yknow i hoped we could see them interact more. and then syu's ssr drops and his backstage throws syu and tsumugi straight onto stage together in ONNAGATA ROLES my jaw dropped when i saw the sprites it was legit a motherquake. currently praying for my fuyu leader mutuals rn
and don't get me started on hiro's backstage oh my god. firstly hiro's son TAKUMA HYUGA!!!! he's such a baby he's so cute he loves tenma so much!!! he's so lucky to have an entire group of big brothers one of which is The Sumeragi Tenma he's been a fan of for so long!!! him asking for a tenma standee in front of hiro was funny as hell too KSHJFKSFGSDKFG and hiro's so cute his disguise is the exact same as tenma with those glasses the writing team really loves to add parallels each chance they get??? keep it coming though. also did you know hiro got good at crane games just so he can get stuff for his son he fathered so hard.
and the way when hiro was telling the other 1st gen that he understands why takuma loves tenma so much and once again starts spilling compliments about tenma and kasumi was like Lol you stan him and hiro's like SHHH I DO NOT!!! KJHGKSJFDGSFDG i'm sorry i love them so much i love how 1st gen interacts with newborn mankai it's so feel good. i waited so long for more content of them and the fact that it's here and there's more coming makes me so happy. please read the backstages they're just so sweet

syus entrances/appearances in backstages and events are are always so funny like with kasumi it's always that they're doing some sort of event or interview with spotlight, hiro is always contacting them about some tv show or whatever, and zen appears when they ACTIVELY SEEK HIM OUT by GOING TO HIS RESTAURANT. but syu? syu just. Shows up. he just walks in with ten lbs of fresh seafood and some triangle foods for misumi when he feels like it. he calls izumi in the middle of the day like "hey wanna drink lol. invite your hubby", and then they go drink. when he feels like it. women love him. he canonically parties all night despite being in his late forties. tsuzuru hands him a play in which he stars as an ikemen kappa and hes just like 👍

Reni: I can’t be certain, but I felt a strange gaze.
Syu: It’s possible Amadate’s trying to make his presence obvious as a way to intimidate us.
Syu: Well, at least there's no way to eavesdrop here.
Reni: The scheduled time with K was at 10 p.m., right?
Syu: Yeah. I'm already waiting in the meeting room.
Syu: It’s K. He’s here.
K: "Otomiya? It's K."
Syu: You're filtering your audio?
K: "I can’t just reveal my identity, you know."
K: "I’ll get straight to the point. You’re suspecting Amadate, aren’t you?"
Syu: That's right.
K: "As you might’ve guessed, Amadate is involved in shady dealings using underground organizations."
