Throughout Act 11 and Act 12, Keiju acted as a dark presence that shook the very survival of MANKAI Company, however, the first generation operating behind the scenes to oppose him was also quite striking. Please inform us of how you imagined a first generation such as them. Furthermore, what does the new generation of MANKAI Company mean to them?

What I wanted to portray in Act 11 and Act 12 was not only how the original leaders, but the entire first generation (including Reni and Yuzo), were influenced and changed by the new generation. Because of the changes they experienced throughout Act 9 and Act 10's episodes, the first generation takes the initiative to help the new generation in Act 11 and 12. They protect the new generation and remain their absolute, unwavering allies. This isn't just because of their affection for their former theater company, but because thanks to their interactions with the new generation, they were able to release the lingering emotional rifts in their hearts and achieve a future with a renewed bond. The first generation is extremely grateful for that. Because of these feelings, I wanted to portray them doing all that they can, with somewhat unrestrained zest similar to their youth. To do this, I gave each member of the first generation a role to play. For example, Zen, in response to the slander against Banri, "offers him a place to go if things get really hard" (Act 11 Episode 29). I wanted to portray them as active, making use of what only they could do or say. For each member of the first generation, the members of the new generation are extremely precious to them. Whether that be like a son they want to watch grow up, or like an adorable grandchild. Some are straightforward in their love, like Kasumi, while others are more tsundere like Hiro. There are those like Zen, who step back and offer support as needed, and those like Syu, who quietly give it their all. It may come in many different forms, but I believe each one of them has love for the new generation.

I ended up putting some more stew on Yukio’s plate and put some on my own before sitting down with him.

“It’s better to have a meal with someone else, after all.”

“Doesn’t matter if you eat with me, it’s boring either way.”

Yukio smiles at me while I silently return to eating my food.

“That’s not true. Generally speaking, you want to eat with other people, don’t you, Zen-san?”

“You sayin’ I’m a loner?”

“Yeah. I’m with you, so I guess I kind of get what you mean. The MANKAI dorms were built because I wanted a place where all the troupe members could live together like a family.”

Yukio looked right at me as he said that.

“People like you should create a ‘place’ like that for yourselves someday, Zen-san.”

“A place?”

“Yes. This place I created is unique. I’m forever grateful for the precious time you all share in my life.”

I was a little surprised that Yukio would think about such an admirable thing, given the way he was always pushing everyone.

“The only way lonely people like us can be at peace is by making a place for ourselves!”

But being lonely just doesn’t match with me.
