March 9, 2024. 🫳 Streaming on Max. Wow, hundreds of millions of dollars spent on such a mediocre movie. The only thing of note was Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's performance as Black Manta. Everything else was just "blah". Why can't DC do what Marvel does? Even Marvel's mediocre movies (Quantmania) were better than this.
Say what you want about Q-force, but I want to know if any other media has done a plot about studios kidnapping young actors and forcing them into making superhero movies all in front of greenscreens in international waters, so on paper it doesn't violate labor laws
It tries really, really hard to make the Rock’s character all badass and cool, but in a very... early 2000s kind of way?
Like, remember how the Resident Evil movies or the Underground movies tried to make their protagonists seem awesome and tough but it would come out as corny? Like that. At least Black Adam gets to kill LOTS of henchmen.
The villain is super lame.
At least the Justice Society injects some life to the movie. They get some cool visuals and setpieces with their powers.

Alan Moore saying superhero movies are fascist is contrarian but at the same time I can kind of get his logic. You have people desiring for some charismatic person to swoop in and save them from all their problems. This desire could be mainpulated by wannabe dictators to justify an authoritarian regime. Though to be fair this concept was already explored in Dune which came out way before Moore wrote Watchmen. So I can understand the general point but on the other hand he is an edgy contrarian. Like, yes we get it Moore, most superhero fans are already well aware of this. He’s basically, a bitter old man yelling at clouds at this point.
I had to think about this a lot because I don't watch a lot of superhero movies besides Marvel, but I didn't want to just list of Marvel movies. But here's some I genuinely love:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Megamind
Spider-man into the Spiderverse
Spider-man Homecoming
The Incredibles
Teen Titans (mainly the show, but Trouble in Tokyo is its movie)
February 18, 2024. 👍 Streaming on Max. This movie is pure nostalgia for me. Batman the Animated Series was a surprisingly adult for a kids' show, and this movie was the same. It did something the Batman movies that came before it never did: it gave Bruce a taste of happiness, then took it away. It's biggest fault was portraying the additional trauma this must have caused, but then again, it's just a kids' movie...
That spiderman 3 meme unironically hit me with a wave of nostalgia the likes of which I rarely experienced. I miss the superhero movies and comics of those times now
oh yeah like they weren't perfect but I miss when they didn't all try to be a continuous crossover and sequel baiting series. It was a simpler time.
