#stripe x knitter
booasaur · 1 year
Note
Stripe as a hardened, distant, cynical soldier from an apocalyptic future, somehow transforming into a hearteyes, completely soft and clingy and touchy for Penance is *chef kisses*.
It's PERFECT. It's the best trope ever and Laura Donnelly sells it so well! If Elsa Bloodstone doesn't have a Gabrielle-esque sidekick, I'm gonna be so disappointed.
And another anon:
Could Knitter be alive, brought back in time by the Galanthi like Zephyr? I know she died before the blue tentacles came, but maybe that Galanthi can scoop up and hold onto souls or whatever, of those they care for or those that believe? Maybe some of the scientists were brought back too? Or maybe cuz Knitter was a "spore"?
I do wonder! It's possible! I hope, tbh, why should only Stripe have been brought back? There's that line in the visions Amalia got, "Did you think you were the only one who hitched a ride?" implying at least one other person definitely did, though they sounded kind of mean, but if there's one other, there could be more.
And another anon:
that future part from the last ep of the nevers remember me of the100 and brought to me memories about clexa ohhh I hate that
Heh, I felt the similarity too! Nothing specific but just similar vibes and feelings. A dystopian future, hope thwarted, unnecessary death, even some kind of soul/memory being saved. Anyway. Let's see what the next half brings. :o

I finally published the project for my dice roll scarf that went viral last month. If you love dice games, you'll enjoy knitting this pattern.
Tumblr media
The color work in this project is determined by an algorithm, a set of rules that determine the final outcome. There isn't an exact set of instructions for this project. Instead, the knitter uses four 10-sided dice or a random number generator to pick the length of the colorwork in each row.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The result is a staggered stripe sequence along the edge of the shawl. There are trillions of unique outcomes, so no two projects turn out exactly alike. The pattern uses about 500 yards of yarn in total, but the amount of each color that you'll need is randomly determined. Before publishing, I wanted to find out the minimum and maximum amount of each color required to make the project and the probability of each outcome.
Tumblr media
The knowledge needed to calculate the yardage was a bit beyond my skill level, but my friend Mary W. Martin helped me gather this info. I used an online probability calculator to find out the probability of each unique stitch count. The results are slightly different depending on whether you use four 10-sided dice (blue) or pick a random number (yellow), but 99% of all possible results fall within a very small range.
Tumblr media
It was an interesting little tangent, but not hugely important to the actual knitting pattern. I can, however, confidently say there is a >99.9% chance that you'll need a 2nd skein of the main color. If you want to know more about the math, you should check out my project notes on Ravelry.
The thick and thin striped colorwork is created with a super simple "long stitch" technique. The pattern looks great in fluffy mohair or contrasting colors of basic wool and the instructions include some basic tips for substituting yarns or changing the gauge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finished Size: 18 x 68” (46 x 172 cm) rectangular wrap.
Yarn: Approx. 315 yards (288 m) of MC and approx. 264 yards (241 m) of CC. Yardage may vary, see notes on yardage below and yardage chart in photos.
• Main Color (2 skeins) - JMR Studio Worsted Weight Mohair, 245 yards (225 m) per 4 oz; 78% Mohair, 13% Wool, 9% Nylon.
• Contrast Color (1 skein each, both yarns held together) - JMR Studio Fingering Weight Mohair, 320 yards (293 m) per 100g; 63% Silk, 23% Kid Mohair, 11% Nylon, 3% Polyester Held with Lavender Lune Yarn Co. Suri Alpaca, 328 yards (300 m) per 50g; 74% Suri Alpaca, 26% Silk.
Yardage: The amount of each color used for this pattern fluctuates based on the random numbers used to determine the stitch pattern. MC uses approx. 233 to 315 yards (213 to 288m) and CC uses approx. 182 to 264 yards (166 to 241m). 99% of possible results fall within a much smaller range. The Yardage Chart shows the distribution of all potential yardage outcomes.
Needles: Size 8 (5 mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. NOTE: Straight needles work best with long stitches. Circular needles with a thin cord allow the long stitches to tighten and stretch, making them harder to manipulate.
Gauge: 12 sts x 14 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) square in pattern.
Other Materials: 10 sided die or random number generator, stitch marker, scale, tapestry needle.
Generating numbers: In my sample, I used four ten-sided dice (D10) to choose a number between 4 and 40 sts. If you don't have dice, you can use an online app like RANDOM.org to generate your numbers. If you follow this link, you'll get a list of 63 integers between 4 and 40. NOTE: Each time you visit the link or refresh the page, the list changes. You can also just choose numbers as you knit.
Pattern is available on my website and on Ravelry.

Omg some Rex fluff?? No 60 from prompt list one, “But I want to hear you sing.” Can you imagine Rex saying that?? So cute my heart 🥺🥺
A/N: Welp I had fun writing this, I’ve written it as a part ii to The Captain and The Medic - which if you click, it’ll take you to part i, but as I usually do, it can also be read independently!
The Captain and The Medic - Part ii
Word Count: 1.9k Pairing: Captain Rex x Reader Summary: You got reassigned as the new 212th medic, and during a new campaign, Rex gets injured. Chaos and stress ensues. Partly because of the 3 jedi who can’t seem to sit still.

Tumblr media
Medics were becoming few and far between as the war dragged out, even the Jedi healers were short-handed. It was for this reason that you were reassigned after a year and a half of serving with the 501st. Admittedly, you weren’t far, only going to the 212th.
You already knew a fair few members among the ranks, having to handle General Kenobi’s penchant for also never seeing a medic, something that the bastard well-respected Jedi Master had regretfully passed on down his lineage. You’d seen Waxer and Boil, when they returned with a secret small creature of some kind that needed medical attention, and you had a bone knitter on hand for Cody, who still had not shaken the habit of punching kriffing droids – which you had pleaded him to stop doing, if not for his own sake for yours, because using one of them was a rather tedious task.
It made for good entertainment, and it kept you busy, but it just didn’t compare to seeing Rex every day.
So when you were placed on the on the same campaign, excitement flooded through you, in the form of pure elation, drowning out the weariness of the amount of injuries that came with the news of a new campaign. That brings you to now, where you were waiting not so patiently with Cody and General Kenobi, expecting an arrival shortly from the 501st. Anakin Skywalker was the first off the ship immediately heading for Kenobi, with Ahsoka following half a step behind him. Ahsoka grinned widely and waved at you, and you let out a laugh at the girl’s antics. Giving a questioning glance to her Master, which he responded with a nod, she suddenly burst into a run, heading straight for you. You let out a low grunt when she smacked into you, and squeezed tightly. When Cody snickered, you silenced him with a quick glare.
“Hello, Commander Tano.”
“Hey Doc!”
General Skywalker nodded at you from where he stood with Kenobi, and pulling away from Ahsoka, you sent them both a curious glance.
“You lot haven’t been causing too much trouble for Kix while I’ve been gone?”
“Oh come on, Doc, we would never.” A new voice answered, unfiltered by the helmet he usually wore. You grinned and spun back around, to see your Captain stepping off the ramp, grinning all the while. You laughed and shot into his arms, smiling when he kissed your temple. Without hesitation, you took his face in your hands and kissed him hard. He grinned against your lips, technically neither of you were on duty yet. Your heart swelled in that moment, even seconds together – while not even close to being enough – after a few weeks made you almost blissful. He pulled away for a second, and tapped a finger on your wrist guard.
“Good to see you’ve replaced our stripes already.” He gestured to the newer, thick yellow line that was now painted next to the two blue, already starting to chip away after weeks of working.
“Oh please.” You rolled your eyes and gently slapped his arm, you wanted to catch up more, fill him in on the past few days, but Skywalker interrupted the two of you.
“Alright lovebirds, sorry doc, but I need to steal my Captain away, you can have him back when this is over and done with.” You laughed, but leant up and pressed a kiss on his cheek before he started in the same direction as the General’s and Commander’s.
“Just make sure you return him to me in one piece please? ” Cody had whacked him on the shoulder then, and you grinned harder. “Oh, and Cody?” The Commander spun and looked at you, and took in your folded arms and disgruntled expression. “Do not punch any droids today, otherwise I can and will amputate your arm.” The poor man looked thoroughly disturbed as Ahsoka broke out with a bright grin and elbowed them both, and Rex spun and gave you a thumbs up, mid-laugh. He mouthed an ‘I love you’ and begun to follow after Kenobi and Skywalker, Cody and Ahsoka still trying to tease him. You watched as he shoved them back, as they disappeared down a corridor and out of sight. Despite the light-hearted nature of the interaction, you couldn’t shake the feeling that today would go badly.
Your heart was racing when he was brought in. There was blood spilling from a gash on his forehead, and you could see when his chest plate moved with his breathing, it wasn’t quite right, rising in two separate motions. It had stopped you from moving, eyes staring after him as Kix started his work. Your muscles were begging you to let you run to him, to help Kix in anyway you could, despite knowing that he was a very capable medic, and no further harm would come to him here.
Your patient, who when you turned around was giving you an almost amused smirk under all the dirt that was caked on him, cleared his throat.
“You know, you could just go and help him, I’ll be fine.” You made a noise half-way between a sigh and a groan, before shoving your anxieties away. He’ll be fine. You had worse problems to deal with, like preventing a dumbass wise Jedi that didn’t know what taking care of himself first was from escaping the medbay.
“And leave you to try and escape again? No chance, General.” He flinched gently as you prodded his ribs, which you determined were likely broken on account of Grievous hitting him with a well-aimed kick. Kenobi feigned a confused look.
“I would nev-” You rolled your eyes before he cut himself off with a groan as you pressed against another rib.
“Yes, you would. You’re already going to be here for the night, don’t force me to make it two,” his smirk flattened as he gave you a blank look. “If I had half a mind, I would keep you here for a week, considering I’ve now had to deal with yours, your padawan’s and your padawan’s padawan bad habits of not coming to or just plain trying to escape the medbay!”
Hours later, once the sun had set, you’d finally gotten the stubborn Jedi to remain in place. Kix was around the medbay somewhere, and almost everyone in here was silent, in a dead sleep after a hard-fought battle. You’d started singing a lullaby in mando’a under your breath, hoping that actively thinking about the lyrics would keep you awake, even as your hands were trembling slightly and your feet ached. You wouldn’t have to stay in the medbay too much longer, Kix would wake up soon and take over the rest of the night shift, as all there is left to do in these hours is monitor heart rates and make sure those who were awake weren’t in pain.
You stopped by Rex’s side, looking up at the monitor, all the while you kept singing quietly. You looked down to your datapad to enter the reading, and noticed that the beeping of the machine had increased. Sure enough, when you looked again, his heart rate was much higher than what it had been earlier, on instinct you felt your own skyrocket at the thought of something being wrong.  You immediately stopped singing and turned to look at his face, where his nose was scrunched, and you could see the movements of his eye beneath his eyelids.
“Rex?”
And one of his eyes cracked open slightly, you sighed heavily in relief. He’s awake.
His mouth pulled into a soft smile to mirror your face, both of his eyes trying to blink the tiredness away. Your eyes began to water as you took a seat beside his bed, and took one of his hands in your own. Slowly, he squeezed back.
“Hey, cyar’ika.” His voice was gravelly and thick with sleep, but it was a good sign that he could recognise you and speak at all.
“Hello, my love,” You said, brushing your hand against his cheek, and letting out a quiet, airy laugh when he blinked slowly and leant heavily into your hand. He was quite possibly still feeling the effects of the pain medication he had been put on hours ago. You noticed his eyes started flicking around the medbay, darting from patient to patient. “Can you tell me what the date is and then what happened?”
Still blinking slowly, one hand rubbed his face, and the other squeezed yours again. He spoke the correct date and then began rattling off details about the mission, from Commander Tano running ahead and Skywalker nearly losing his mind at the teenager, all the way up until he very nearly got blown up. You took in a deep breath when he finished his recount, all his memories were intact.
You raised his hand to your lips and pressed a kiss across his knuckles. Tiredly smiling at you, he reached up and tucked a hair behind your ear. The relief you felt was palpable as he seemed to be mostly there. You stood from the chair, untangling his hands from your hair, and checking the box on the datapad, signifying no signs of serious damage. You stared at his face once more, eyeing the cut on his temple and just taking in all the details.
“Alright, Rex, get some more rest in please. You’re likely going to be cleared tomorrow, so you’re going to need to be in good shape.” He groaned and grabbed your hand again, moving his thumb in small circles. Okay, maybe he was still on too many meds.
“Riddur, you need sleep, and I have more patients to see.” In an unusual show of emotion, he pouted.
“But I just want to hear you sing?” You flushed, knowing that he had most definitely heard you when you first walked over. You laughed softly, and brushed his cheek again.
“Is that what it’ll take for you to go back to sleep?” He spent a second thinking on it, before he nodded once, barely perceptible if you weren’t standing beside his head. Definitely still feeling the after-effects of the meds. You leant down and kissed him gently, stepping back before murmuring the soothing words in mando’a. He sighed and his eyes slid shut, as you walked away, allowing him to drift off, listening to the soft-spoken voice that sounded like honey and reminded him of a home that he had with only one person.
BONUS:
“No, you are not cleared!”
“I feel fine-”
“That means the pain meds are working! General Kenobi, three of your ribs are broken, and literally every other rib is bruised!”
“Doc, I’m sure Obi-wan is-”
“No, Skywalker, he is not! My medbay, my rules! And my rule is that he stays until he’s healed!”
“We outrank you, you know that right?”
“Not here, you don’t!”
“But-”
“Don’t you start, I could confine you here as well! Don’t think I didn’t see you injure your shoulder!”
“Kark, nope, Ahsoka, let’s go.”
“Anakin!”

@touchedwoman sent: 'thanks for playing, try again.' (x)
Jane’s mouth tightens. Her hands wring themselves in front of her, over and over, twisting the skin white. “You’re not listening to me,” she says.
Tumblr media
She knows she’s different. She didn’t know it mattered this much, the body she lives in; she didn’t realize how disorienting it is to see the world from a few inches higher, to touch things with hands that aren’t her own. To have long hair again, and the wrong color, and feel it fall against her cheek, her neck. She’s been trying. She’s been trying so hard to live with it. Her altered reality. She’s used to being stared at. That doesn’t bother her, to walk wrong in this body, shoulders hunched, eyes down, and have people stare. But to be looked at uncomprehending, and dismissed--how much it hurts. As much as it ever did, from Stripe. To be so misunderstood, as Stripe has always misunderstood her. Maybe even reviled her, in the end. Stripe would soak in the comfort and warmth of Jane’s softness and then spit on it the next morning. That’s how she’s always been.
Stripe is different on the outside, like her. But Jane can feel her, like a bright blue fire at the front of her skull, the way she feels every presence in the yard, with heat and light and weight in her brain; before London, she felt nothing from other people, could only puzzle them out by searching for clues, and now she feels everything. Everything and everyone vibrates at a frequency in her skull, like a tuning fork against the bone. Her Turn: a cacophony in her head. And she’s followed the sound of Stripe, followed her here, the only note that’s familiar, the only song she recognizes.
Jane takes a breath, and it hiccups in her chest. She doesn’t want to get upset. To get angry or sad, to cry. For one thing, she’s wearing a corset: this body is used to it, but her mind isn’t. She feels her stays with every breath. She says, “You never listen to me. You never--” she stops and squeezes her eyes shut. She opens them again. “Our pride was forty-first Ground,” she says, “and we left Edinburgh with Boot but he stepped on a mine and died. We were sep--separated and--” she has to stop to take another breath. “I know it’s you. You’re a Stripe, I’m a Knitter. You and I, we--” should she say it out loud, here in the orphanage yard? “Will you listen?”

The Nevers Star Laura Donnelly Answers Burning Finale Questions
https://ift.tt/3uSp933
The following contains major spoilers for The Nevers episode 6.
The star of HBO sci-fi series The Nevers has never shied away from the fact that the show’s sixth episode would be a big one.
“Six is an extraordinary episode,” Donnelly (who plays Amalia True) told Den of Geek prior to the series premiere. “It provides a lot of the answers to the questions that the audience might have. It seemed like a very natural cut-off point.”
Whether episode 6, titled “True”, is a natural cut-off point remains to be seen. Due to the coronavirus pandemic suspending production, the show’s initial 10-episode first season order was shortened to six and “Part 2” (containing six more episodes for a total of 12) is set to arrive at a later date. It’s hard to argue though that episode 6 is anything but extraordinary.

How HBO’s The Nevers Explores a Very Different Vision of Victorian Girl Power
By Lacy Baugher
“True” doesn’t merely provide some answers to long-running Nevers questions – it basically upends the premise of the entire show. It turns out that creator Joss Whedon’s initial vision for The Nevers wasn’t merely Victorian ladies with supernatural powers, but that of a much larger story about the human race on the edge of collapse and a dimension-hopping alien species intent on helping us.
Whedon departed the project during the production delay so when the show returns it will be up to new showrunner Philippa Goslett to shepherd this bold new vision. To get ready for that, Den of Geek spoke with Donnelly about the many revelations of episode 6 and what the future of The Nevers entails.
For those looking for a more complete rundown of just what happened in this truly wild episode, check out our explainer over here. But here Donnelly does an admirable job of unwinding “True’s” many twists.
This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
Den of Geek: I participated in the press day interviews before the season premiered. Now I’m wondering what was that press day experience like on your end? People ask you “So what’s your show about? What’s going on?” And then you just kind of have to sit back and lie!
Laura Donnelly: It’s the most frustrating thing ever. I wanted to go into some details but honestly it felt like I could say nothing without unraveling an entire six-episode arc. People would ask me “How did you research to get into the role?” I can’t say that I researched what it might be like to train in the army, what combat would be like with PTSD, things like that. So I’m left going, “Oh, I just read some books on what it’s like in Victorian times.” It made me sound like a really lame researcher.
You mentioned back in those pre-air interviews that when you first had the meeting for this show, Joss gave you kind of the “whole picture.” Was this episode what that meeting was referring to? And what was your reaction like when you first heard it all?
Well, it was obviously then that I realized I was not dealing with Victorian X-Men. (That meeting) introduced the idea of having an entire backstory of somebody who has been through so much and then gets thrown into this situation and has to deal with it. I just knew that that was going to be such a deep dive into this character and that there was going to be so much to be able to explore with it. Then it was bringing in the elements of how the show is relevant to today, not just in an allegorical sense, but literally – how they are trying to go back in time to make sure that humans do better.
I couldn’t believe that a mind or a show could hold that much. And I knew that I had to be a part of it. What blew me away about (episode) six was that I didn’t know the details, how the story would be told and everything. Now I just can’t believe that with this single hour of television, they managed to tell all of these separate stories with such beauty and nuance. And not just with a ton of exposition, but instead, showing these things in the most clear way possible and that you find out so much in such a short period of time.
Definitely. The first chapter in this episode is really filled with futuristic sci-fi jargon and there is very, very little expository dialogue. Maybe this is a non-sequitur, but have you ever seen the movie Primer? It kind of reminded me of that in that sense.
No.
It’s a time travel movie made by Shane Carruth a while back (Editor’s Note: 2004). And all of the dialogue is just complete jargon that only an expert in theoretical physics would understand for basically the whole runtime, but the audience is still able to pick up what’s happening for the most part. This episode just reminded me of that.
Yeah. I love it for that. I love it for the fact that it rewards intensive viewing. It’s not the show that you can watch while you’re scrolling on your phone. If you are willing to just buy into that, you realize that on first watch you get the important information: the Galanthi are an alien race that are here to help humanity from itself, and that Stripe is Amalia. Then everything after that the more passion you bring to watching it, the more you get out of it.
I finished my first re-watch right before this interview and I think I finally understand just now how and why Stripe got sent back in time by the Galanthi. Because things are too far gone now. The Galanthi are finally going to really help and their version of really helping is just “We’ve got to go back. Humanity needs a fresh start.”
Yeah! I loved that there were things that I realized from watching it that I hadn’t picked up in the reading of the script. When they suddenly realize that the portal is an exit one and not an entrance one, that makes Knitter (Ellora Torchia) in that moment lose all hope. But what you come to realize is that that is not a moment of despair actually. You realize that the reason that they had an exit portal was because they had a plan and they weren’t coming back. You see that with the Victorian artifacts in the room. In fact, this plan was brought together with the scientists. They were working on that together. That was only something that I caught from watching it.
What was it like watching Claudia Black play your character?
I thought she did a really, really beautiful job. It was strange for me because I wanted them to shoot that before I shot my Stripe stuff, so that I would have a lot more to go on to replicate when I first land in the asylum. But it just couldn’t work out that way and they had to shoot all of Claudia and the future stuff after I’d already shot in the asylum. I went in and watched a lot of their rehearsals and got some video footage of their rehearsals and stuff so I had a good idea of what it was that she was doing with that, but it was just amazing to watch the whole thing put together. It’s like the final piece of a puzzle that I didn’t even have any say in. I was just kind of glad really that it matched up to what I had in my head, because I’d been having to make a lot of guesses when it came to playing Stripe in the asylum.
It occurs to me now that for five episodes you’ve been playing a woman with a North American accent doing an old-timey Victorian British accent. What was that process like?
It allowed a little freedom actually because, on her part, it’s a learned accent. I didn’t have to be hugely strict about the rules of what would be particularly Victorian. I allowed myself to bring a little more modernity to how she would phrase something. I kind of hoped that people would pick up on the idea that Amalia seemed, in some indistinguishable way, slightly anachronistic. I also then kind of hoped that there would even be the odd person going, “Oh, well her accent’s slipped there, she got it wrong there” or whatever, because I kind of felt once you then see episode six, they’d see why.
When you think of the character in your head, what name comes to mind first: Molly, Zephyr, Amalia, or Stripe?
Amalia, actually, but the second one that would come would be Stripe. It’s funny, “Zephyr” is the last one I think of and I think that that is probably true of Amalia as well in that it is so far pushed down. It is so far into her past for so many different reasons. It would be too painful to have all of the implications that the Zephyr name carries in the forefront of her mind. In her soldier way of being, she just needs to constantly move forward.
Again, back before the season premiered when I spoke to you and Ann (Skelly), my first question was about characters’ names and how they were a little odd. Perhaps that was a bit prescient because in the far flung future names are sacred. What was your impression of that concept and why do you think names have become sacred?
I wonder if it’s just the idea that it’s the only little bit of recognizable humanity left for them. I think that people will always find a way of making something sacred. You need what is sacred to you at times when things are most difficult. You’re looking at a human race that doesn’t even have real food. Everything is engineered and they can’t even breathe the air outside. The sacred can be very important in moments of deep, deep despair like that. A name is something that everybody can have, and a name is something that everybody can therefore keep for themselves.
At the same time, it also speaks to the idea that everybody then is involved in that war on one side or the other. It doesn’t seem to me that you’ve got the army and then you’ve got citizens. It seems to me like everybody at that point in humanity as they’re coming towards the end is on one side or the other and is fighting. That means that everybody is being called by their rank, and so Stripe is known as Stripe That also makes a name more sacred because it’s the part of you that isn’t involved in this war. It’s the last vestige of true humanity that you might have left.
Any updates on the production process for part 2? I believe last time you had yet to see any scripts.
I’ve had lots of conversations with (new showrunner) Philippa Goslett and with Ilene (Landress), our producer but I have as yet not read a script. I’m just waiting, but I’m in prep. I know enough about the next couple of episodes to know what fights I need to learn and things like that.
I cannot imagine being in Philippa’s shoes right now. Showrunner changes happen all the time but this is one of the more unusual narrative circumstances to fall into, I think.
Absolutely. I mean, the show is wild, but I think that, whatever else happened, we were so fortunate that episode six became this very natural break point in the story for obvious reasons. So much has been wrapped up. I feel like the world is built and the characters are established, you know. It really could go pretty much anywhere from here and it just needs somebody’s brilliant imagination to do that.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Now that the real plot behind the curtain was revealed, does the name “The Nevers” have any more added significance?
Not that I’m aware of, no. I think the only thing that I have to go on about the name is something that Joss said several years back about the idea that these people never should have existed. They’re anomalies or even the more pejorative term – abominations.
Do you think future seasons and storylines of the show will take things past Victorian England and inch closer to that dystopian present?
I mean, I would love for it to. It makes sense to me that it started in Victorian times because that was a key moment of change in so many different ways in how the world communicates. There are kind of several revolutions going on at once, technological being one of the main ones. But it would be really interesting then to see how that progresses, and the issues at hand get dealt with, depending on the social aspects of different countries or different decades. The key to all of that is can you find a really cool way of doing it? Because my head isn’t able to come up with that. Whatever keeps the storyline the most interesting, keeps the characters true to themselves, and doesn’t jump the shark, I’m well up for.

Lighthouse Lesbian Flag FAQ
What's wrong with the original lipstick lesbian flag?
-racist creator
-too many colors not used in other flags. (Expensive for small creators)
-butches don't like it
What's wrong with the triangles on 2.0?
Gives Jewish folk ptsd symptoms
Why not just use the rainbow flag?
That flag is too broad to count as lesbian representation at events. Its an important flag but, its also important for lesbians to have one of our own.
What's wrong with the other proposed flags?
(Not all are applicable to all flags)
-too complicated (can't be drawn with ruler/compass)
-not Identifyable to outsiders
-triangles (black or pink)
-exclusionist
-not knitter friendly (too many colors that cant be reused for other flags)
-too neon, bad for people who get seizures from bright colors.
Yours is ugly
Actually theres been an issue with monitors and screens butchering the colors. If it looks bad and orange its because your screen is either bad or on weird color settings.
The color theory is solid.
Whys it got symbols?
It has symbols because that makes it Identifyable.
"No other flags have symbols"
I guess Canada, and most of Europe don't exist. Also if were talking about non country flags: the poly flag has a pi symbol.
"People wont make merch of symbols!/its too complicated"
The American flag has symbols and is complex and that has stopped exactly no one from plastering it onto every item ever conceived.
Why do white people get their own fem sign and poc all have to share one sign?
1: white people don't have a fem sign.
2: the white fem sign is for invisible minorities such as the Disabled or Neurodivergent.
"The white fem sign overlaps the brown. That's weird"
Yeah. That's how Photoshop prosesses its layers.
If it bothers you think of it as one holding out an arm to protect the other.
Can I use the flag for edits?
Yes! Have fun!
Do I need to @ you to use the flag?
No! However I do love seeing what y'all do with it so I certainly won't complain if you do!
Can I use this flag for merch?
Yes!!! That's what designed it for! Please do!
Do I have to pay royalties?
No! The flag design is my donation to the community!
Can I change the colors?
You can filter, desaturate whatever, just don't erase the identities the colors represent.
Isint it hard to draw?
The whole thing can be drawn out with nothing but a compass and a ruler!
Can I get rid of the black border around the Trapazoid?
Yes, unless you specifically seek to honor the dead I see no reason why you couldn't get rid of it.
I'm (X) and I'll never identify with the fem signs!
Good for you. Once the flag as a whole is established into the membranes of our culture we can just use the stripes.
Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices to accomplish goals. Until we've made our dent in the culture you can just use the stripes or whatever form of flag you like best.
What about bisexuals?
This is the lesbian flag, bisexuals already have their own.
Why did trans women get a stripe?
Trans women are women and can also be lesbians.
What if I don't want to date someone with a penis?
You dont have to, that's your preference, just be nice about it. Most people don't experience attraction based on genetalia and excluding trans women from the community based on your personal preferance is kinda rude.
What about trans men?
I've heard many sides of this "can trans men be lesbians?" debate and have made the informed decision to shut up and stay the fuck out of it until trans people come up with a more unanimous answer.
Can nonbinary people really be lesbians?
That's complicated and I'm not a great person to ask. But according to nonbinary people; yes they can be lesbians.
Isn't your gf pan?
....yes (its more complicated and I still have to Google the words in her bio every time but panromantic is a pretty good descriptor)
Did she get any say in the flag?
No
Are you even a lesbian?
Yes, I am a lesbian.
Aren't you like 16? Are you really qualified to make a flag for the whole community?
Yes I am 16.
I'm also a freshman in college and do occasionally get paid for art and design work.
I may not the best person for the job but I have yet to see any one more qualified take a shot at it, much less explain in detail why other flags aren't working and make a new one by committee.
"Kill yourself"
Sorry dude I got plans.

Video
youtube
I’m participating in Fandom Love Puerto Rico, but I’m an unreliable narrator at best, so I am offering up knitting skills instead, both teaching/education, support, and for those who don’t knit, I’m also offering hats. I’m posting this to better explain exactly what I’m offering. Links to the bid post for each offering are below.
I am a well rounded Continental Combined knitter who also works conventional Continental and English. My Ravelry design page is here.
KNITTING INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO to be hosted on my Youtube channel. I am offering one of these, and my most recent example is above. Of course, if someone bids and wins this I would be careful *not*  to accidentally delete the in-depth review of the right cross and make sure everything stays in focus. The minimum bid is $10 for 3min of video, with the video length up to the bidder. Please keep in mind that 3min is VERY SHORT. Be prepared to commit to 12-15min or more depending on the type of question. Much as I would like to think I know everything, I don’t. Please check with me to see if I can help you with your questions.
KNITTING TUTORING in person via skype and/or email. Since a video is a static exchange that tends to explain one thing to varying degrees of thoroughness, more interactive knitting lessons are more appropriate for many situations. I am offering two opportunities for one-on-one knitting tutoring; the minimum bid is $1 for 5min of Skype. Again, 5min is VERY SHORT. Be prepared to commit to 20min or more depending on the type of questions. Keep in mind, too, that emails don’t break down easily into minutes, so if we don’t Skype and only conduct this through  emails or messages with still pictures and diagrams, that it will take longer to convey ideas.   Much as I would like to think I know everything, I don’t. Please check with me to see if I can help you with your questions.
KNITTING CHART DESIGN for Intarsia or stranded colorwork.  I am offering six chart units of 50st x 50r at a minimum bid of $25 per unit, so if the chart needs to be bigger or have a finer resolution, bid on more than one unit.  Here’s a design I did myself for some stranded colorwork (examples are in the next section), and the end result of an Intarsia chart I did for a skull (30st x 56r).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, for the people who just want to buy knits and not make them....
HAND KNIT WOOL HATS, and since my stash colors are limited right now, I’ll be hand dyeing the yarn to spec using professional acid dyes as well. Here are some hats I’ve done in the past. The Carousel hats that have 5 different animals are typically pretty popular. I can do them with or without the carousel poles and I can do the following animals: bear, bull, fish, gryphon, hippocampus, horse, lion, ostrich, rabbit, ram, snail, swan, and turtle. I can also do a sleigh/sledge. I’ve also done them with just owls or skulls. I can also do a 2 color brioche “beggar’s purse” hat that converts into a close fitting cowl/neckwarmer, or a simple ribbed hat with a turned up cuff.
Tumblr media
And, of course, there’s always the Wizardly Incognito Cap, which is a cuffed beanie that can turn into a pointed cap by turning down the cuff. Shown here with Fibonacci stripes.
Tumblr media
If you’ve made it this far, huzzah! You have now seen all my offerings for this fandom auction. I’m happy to answer any questions that arise.

So, day after the march in Washington and being there (which was amazing holy shit), some thoughts. Negative first, then positive to end on a high note. 1: Why the fuck did Scarlett Johansson talk so damn long. Like. Shit I only caught half of it and it was kinda bland and not very insightful???? Could've reduced it to 3 minutes and helped keep things on schedule (and maybe had Gloria Steinem closer to the actual march time rather than Scarjo, because SERIOUSLY). Because- 2: HOLY SHIT THE SCHEDULE. In general I adore the organizers for what they did and who they got to speak, but damn. People literally just started marching after Angela Davis spoke because at that point we were an hour and a half behind when we were supposed to march, and frankly I was slightly disgusted about the lack of communication with us due to the disabled and elderly people at the march. Like really you are going to not inform us how many speakers are left, how long it will be when we ACTUALLY start marching when there are disabled and elderly people in the audience who budgeted their spoons to show up to the march on time, deal with horrific transit, and then stand in the cold misty weather? My sister had to leave the march after only 30 minutes walking because of how late the march started and how her back literally had her sitting down in pain with her face tucked into her knees at one point due to the standing and weather. Like there is a reason I'm not complaining about it running late alone or about the lack of toilets, because I totally get the turnout was crazy big and beyond what they could expect. Heck I ain't even complaining about how in most places you couldn't hear a damn thing of the speaker because once again- CROWDS WERE FUCKING HUGE. Unless they had the budget of Njord they could not have set things up properly for that many people. Just tell us a fucking timetable people. A rally is awesome but people came to march, changes of plans or delays need to be announced and hopefully a little apology given considering, once again, the disabled and elderly people in the audience. Fuck I could barely move after all of it and I only have minor back issues, god bless those with more serious health issues. 3: All the pussy and uterus signs. Like ok- on a level I totally get and support the need to address the whole 'grab them by the pussy' bullshit, and how the lack of reproductive health or education for women exists so let's fuck with those cisdude asshats, but. BUT. As a trans person it made me uncomfy at the sheer amount? And focus on that one line vs all the other horrific shit? IDK. Complicated feelings. Though I did want to blast out of the air all the "the future is female" signs that were around like fuck that dude. (I'm sorry but it erases nonbinary people, uses 'female' instead of 'women' which emphasizes a whole bunch of biological cissexism, so yeah.) 4: Wished I wasn't with my mom at times, at least before the march started, because she is a very hardcore planner and getting super pissed at the organizers which on one hand I get but like. Let's respect the people speaking??? And enjoy the moment a bit??? (Though once again fucking hell couldn't they have just TOLD US THE NEW TIMETABLE so those who needed to sit down or get out of the rain could have left and come back????) NOW FOR THE POSITIVE 5: HOLY SHIT THE SIZE AND SO MANY PEOPLE??? And I wanted to high-five all the lovely fellow trans people who were so bold and came out in force, and the entire LGBTQIA+ spectrum (I saw a rainbow flag with 'ACE' across it! It was awesome), and just guys. Like. All the streets were flooded. It is so hard to conceptualize even with words. To march and know that even if a quarter of those people put their money where they mouth was in SOME way.... That's fucking inspiring. And I think I will always remember one of the first signs I saw- a art piece with two black women, one in a wedding dress the other in a tank and pants with a rose tattoo across her arm, holding hands gazing at each other with 'LOVE IS LOVE' splashed across it. It struck me as such a personal sign- I couldn't help but think it was the poster holder's own relationship displayed. And so many people came out and bravely showed the fullness of themselves for the world to see. 6: JANELLE MONAE, ANGELA DAVIS, AND SO MANY OTHERS! Omg there was this little girl Sofia who spoke and she was so strong and brave and god just. There were so many brave people who spoke and I was so happy for them to be there and speaking truth, even if I didn't catch most of it due to where I was in the crowds at certain times. The organizers got some great people, were amazing at keeping the rally on track despite all they must have had to deal with (once again- biggest complaint that they just didn't inform us of 'hey it's gonna be x time to march now due to how many people showed up and etc) and honestly did try to include a lot of different voices, and wow just. So many inspiring people. 7:  WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD BEING SO AWESOME AND BRAVE AND YES. YES. 8: Coming down from the railing escorting my sister to the metro to see the huge main part of the march flow down below, a gigantic constitution splashed with "WE THE PEOPLE" for all to see, marching down the street. 9: Seeing a middle eastern woman with a rainbow tutu being interviewed, a full smile on her face and me having hope the voices of those who have been silenced will be fucking heard. 10: Pussy hats. Like I know there has been some debate about them, but goddamn it was such a grassroots movement that women of all types had a hand in (some cobbled them together with spare fabric, others got them donated by knitters, some had pink cat ears they grabbed at a store, some rainbow, some black, some pink with rainbow stripes, etc etc etc), and there is such a fuck you to the establishment that devalues "women's work" and consumerism in that statement, with items that people made themselves from old sweaters or knitted themselves or etc etc etc. 11: Just hearing the roar of people as the crowds cheered in unity. Like. Holy shit man. 12: Being blatantly out about my queerness around my mom, aunt, sister and my sister's friend. Fuck yeah.

Shadow knitting with Sweet Roll Yarn
This week we're knitting with Sweet Roll yarn by Premier Yarns. This long color repeat self-striping yarn is ideal for sprucing up shadow knitting with worry-free color changes. This is what we’ll explore today, while yesterday we looked at some free patterns provided by Premier Yarns.
Sweet Roll yarn stacks up to your most imaginative ideas. The Punch Pop colorway features lavender, bright turquoise, and a rich teal.
Shadow knitting was initially developed in Japan and roughly translated, it's known as 'fine knitting', which doesn’t really hint at the optical illusion that it creates. If you’d like to learn more about this history of Shadow knitting and see more patterns, I’d recommend this Interweave book Shadow Knitting
History of Shadow Knitting and many patterns can be found in this volume by Interweave.
Shadow knitting is a great way for beginners to do colorwork without knitting with two colors at the same time on the same row. It involves knitting 2 rows in one color and then 2 rows in the next color and then alternating back and forth. The strands of the unused color are loosely carried up the side of the project where each color row begins and ends. When you do this, you basically get stripes. If you only knit you get garter stitch ridges, and if you knit one row and purl one row you get stockinette stripes. Like these.
Stripes of 2 rows of each color
If you look a little closer at the pattern, you’ll notice that on a few of the stripes things look a little wonky. Perhaps to the untrained eye, it would look like a mistake. But these irregularities my friend, are what make shadow knitting what it is. If you look at the knit fabric surface from any angle that's shallower than a perpendicular bird’s eye view, you’ll start to see some changes in the color and the texture of the fabric, and what you're seeing are the shadows that the alignment of certain stitches creates.
On this scarf, you’ll notice a series of L-shaped blocks arranged in a motif that’s called a Greek Key. I made up a simplified version of a Greek Key because some of them can get quite complex and have a variety of corners and parallel lines.
Looking at the scarf at a 30 degree angle makes the Greek Key pattern jump out at you.
To make the shadows, the knitter uses strategically placed purl stitches that create raised garter stitch ridges that run one half row off-set of the other garter stitch ridges. It’s a thing of beauty.
Sweet Roll yarn added a cool element to shadow knitting in that the color changes add a whole different dimension to the shadows. I used almost all of 2 rolls of the same colorway, Punch Pop in this case. To ensure that you don’t end up with the same color overlapping, it’s necessary to unwind all of one color from the center of the roll so that when you use the yarn from one ball to be on color of stripe, it always contrasts the yarn from the other ball. If you use two different colorways together you won’t have to do this step. In the picture below, you can see how the colorways “chase” each other across the length of the scarf, making it look like there are more than 3 colors in the colorway.
Bird's eye few of alternating stripes of Sweet Roll Punch Pop makes it look like you have more than 3 colors.
My wife knit this for me and she really enjoyed the pattern. It was one that she could take with her to knit-night because it doesn’t take too much concentration. She loved the feel of Sweet Roll as she knit with it, and the end result is a soft scarf with beautiful drape and a squishy feel to it.
If you’d like to try to knit this scarf and see how you like shadow knitting, I’ll include the pattern for this scarf below.
