One thing I'll never get over is how Storm & Silence could've easily been so much better if Rob Their(the author) wasn't afraid to actually write a compelling story.

Don't get me wrong, I adore the whole concept of '19 year old Victorian girl dresses up as a man to get a job'. But it's just so poorly written that I think about all the ways the story could be better when I'm in the bus going home from college.

I mean, that's how it is with books, they will be criticized no matter how good or how bad it may be. But then again, this is a Wattpad book. You can never expect too much from a Wattpad book. Every character feels very two dimensional after the first book that every other book after that is just plain fan-service.

The first book is genuinely good, except for the hyper feminist way Lilly is written to be. The author doesn't even bother to add conflict between any of the characters. The ONLY conflict that we ever get is Lilly arguing with Rikkard how she's capable of anything even if she's a women in every single book. It keeps going on and on like this that it just gets boring.

And the way Lilly's intelligence is suppressed makes me mad too. Like in book 3, she literally deciphers a map to find the treasure, but god forbid she recognizes her fiancé's(whether she likes him or not) initials on the waste disposal file and connect the dots on how he and her previous guy(I forgot his name) might've just disappeared. That right there could've been a good conflict. She recognizes the initials, realizes what Rikkard might've done, get angry and argue about not wanting him to interfere with it, then having to find an escape from her next fiancé and choosing to go out of town with Rikkard against her will instead of telling him why bcs she doesn't want a new waste disposal file.

Not to be mean, but the author is a man. At the end of the day, the way female characters are written by men will never be realistic. I know there might be real people out there like Lilly, but the way her "inner feminist"(I hate when she kept saying 'mY iNneR FemIniSt iS prOtEstiNg' stfu) is written truly makes me want to pull my hair out. It will never be same as writing a story from a women's perspective when you already know what it's like. I'm not saying that men are incapable of understanding the female experience, I'm saying that it's stupid and annoying when a man pretends he does.

Also the lack of historical accuracy boils my blood. Rob claims to have done thorough research on every historical details yet somehow Lilly and Rikkard goes on top of the Statue of Liberty despite the story taking place around 1840 and the statue starting its construction in 1876.

SNS was the last and final original story I've read on Wattpad. I really wish I could go back and keep myself away from that app and read an actual book. But it's the only place I could go to when I lost my sanity. Let me know how you feel about the book. I know there's barely anyone in the fandom, but please tell me your perspective.

P.S. can someone tell me where Rob used the slur. I read about many people talking about it but I cannot remember or recognize where it is.

Okay, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, but I’m tired and can’t sleep so I’ll do this now.

I’m so completely upset with this series. I remember when I began reading it in like sixth grade I recommended it to every person I could find, because there was only the first two finished books at the time. I remember seeing people talk about the quality drop and character change in the third book, but I remember really noticing it in the fourth. I remember excitedly telling my mom what happened in each chapter whenever it updated. I remember stopping midway through silence breaking. I remember the series ending with storm of bells. I remember crying because I loved the series so much, how I cried because it was over and because somewhere along the many books I couldn’t recognize the characters anymore. I remember being so excited when the seventh book was announced. I remember seeing how weird everything was, and how vague it all felt. (Also wrong, I’m going to vent quickly about how he was like, I’ll use the n word for authenticity of the era, but then mentioned the Statue of Liberty which didn’t even exist at that point) I remember sticking out reading the seventh book, even though I still couldn’t tell you the plot of it. I remember starting the eighth book, seeing them with pirates for so long and for no reason other than it being the worst content I’ve ever read. I remember when I stopped reading and promised that I would finish before school started back up. I am almost halfway into my senior year of high school and I can’t bear to read more than the first book, and even that’s just for nostalgia.

I feel dumb and childish. I feel like I should’ve seen where the quality dropped, but I felt like it was so subtle that I couldn’t tell until it was too late. I wish I had just stopped reading after the wedding book. I wish I wasn’t ashamed of the book series that inspired me to write and to read more and more. I wish I could, in good conscience, recommend these books to others. There are so many that still read the books and I can’t even bear to look at the bad cover for the ninth (?) book.

If anyone wants to tell me that I’m wrong and that the quality is the same, please do. I do genuinely feel guilty for liking something so long and realizing now that it’s trashy.

So did Mr Ambrose buy his country manor the first time he returned to England to buy his parents estate back? Or did he do that later, when he returned for good? Either way, he bought that place... Yes he used it as a warehouse and store, yes he managed to profit off of the expense, but he bought a home clearly in the hopes of having a reason for one someday. He kept that picture, that rock, as a way of tethering himself to his past and guiding himself to his future.

And that right there is one of the reasons I love mr ambrose so much... At the end of the day, even though it didn't make sense, even though it was emotional and vulnerable, he desired a family. That of his mother and sister, but also maybe just maybe he could find a woman who wasn't so dreadfully dull, who could keep up a conversation with him, and maybe even keep him on his toes.

Mr Ambrose has acquired so many skills over the years, learned so many things about people and business and nature. The fact that he was willing to put aside his obvious upbringing and humble himself, forcibly but still, and rise from that really is a success story. He did the dirty work, he worked with unsavory characters, he learned how to start, build, and run a business, how to manipulate people, how to get what he wanted. He learned how to sift for gold, how to build his own shelter, how to care for farm animals, including cow birthing (!!! That shit is no joke man. That's actually mad skills)

Man did all of these things in the last 10-12 years (I'm assuming he's 27 or so now?) And now all of these skills have blossomed into this ability to do everything in his power to care for his growing family. Oh I'm sure he's still got plenty of adventures left, between Dalgliesh and the vicompt, but now he's got a purpose. Now he knows for sure what he's fighting for. For Berty, for Lilly, for Adaira and Lady Samantha, for their adorable townhouse with a nursery and the Home Cheap Home sign. Because now it's not just about surviving out of spite. He has people who rely on him, and he has people he relies on in turn.

He wants a big family with Barb, Wire, Fence, the parrot, the camel, and everything else. And maybe just maybe their lives will eventually settle down so they can have those calm quiet adventures too.

When digital art gets a bit complicated, go back to good old traditional sketching. Lilly was one of my og girl crushes sinceeee like 2015-16? Anyways shes one of the first characters i drew digitally if u scroll all the way down (please don’t) and posted here. Beautiful, smart and a wicked sense of humor (Ambrose you lucky dog) i wanted to go back to her and try to visually do her justice and her personality. This was even like a challenge, since i got so used to drawing mainly the fits main character, i have to tweak the art style a bit in facial features. May be noticiable or naw.

Ps. I need to be better at taking pics, but granted I tend to finish my artwork at like midnight-beginning of the day and i really want to post it. Sigh.

i have been unmedicated for the entirety of spring break and thus have had little interest in writing this down, but i have been thinking about this for the entire week (as well as a dpdc clone danny au that resulted in it becoming its entirely separate batman au that includes a teenage vigilante bruce wayne, an ocarina, and me entirely incapable of making a batman au without making bruce dirt poor but we're not talking about that) and so i've finally went 'fuck it' and forcibly grabbed my laptop. I will get this done in one sitting even if it kills me.

BUT. This is about neither clone^2 danny nor about who i am calling Ocarina Batman. This is about my Danyal Al Ghul Au and more SPECIFICALLY it's me thinking about his relationship with Sam and Tucker specifically.

Tucker and Sam? Adore this asshole (affectionate) with every fiber of their being. And it is very much a reciprocated feeling, but Danny's thoughts will not be delved into much other than he would kill for them.

Tucker? The only person currently capable of getting a deep, loud, belly laugh out of Danny. Sam can get him to smile and to laugh, but it's the kind that's a chuckle-under-the-breath. The quiet, looks-down-while-huffing laughter. Snorts once with laughter and then grins stupidly.

But Tucker? Tucker can crack a slew of stupid jokes and Danny will be incapacitated for the next five minutes because he's laughing so hard that he can't breath. He lands one well-timed pun or quip and Danny will be close to tears. His laughter is their favorite sound in the whole world.

Sam is lowkey jealous of this ability, and she's gotten a belly laugh out of Danny a few times. But alas, it is Tucker who wields this power and has gotten it the most times out of the two of them.

They're also both physically affectionate with Danny as much as possible. It started roughly around when they were 12-ish, a year since they befriended Danny, and they noticed that he sought after touch but never seemed to initiate (and was in some ways repulsed by it). They started slowly being more touchy with him. Hooking a finger around his to lead him somewhere, tapping his wrist, looping arms. Little touches, grabs, etc, to get him used to it, and once he started doing it back they started increasing it.

It's gotten to a point where he will now just. Lay on them. Like a lizard sunbathing on a rock. Leaning on their backs when they're sitting in class before the bell rings, his chin on their heads. He'll talk about anything with his arms looped around their shoulders.

If they're sitting on a couch at either of their houses, he'll lay his legs on theirs. Him and Tucker will press their feet against the other's and try and push against them (newsflash: Danny always wins, Tucker claims its the ghost strength but Danny's been winning since before his accident)

Naturally, both Sam and Tucker know where Danny keeps his weapons on his person, and are allowed to grab them off of him if they need it. His only requirement is that they don't lose his weapons if they take it and forget to return it immediately.

They both understand how big of a thing this is from Danny, and so they do their best to treat his weapons with a lot of respect and care because they know its his way of saying he trusts them.

Sam and Tucker are so fond of Danny it's insane. Like fr. That's their goddamn best friend, and they are so protective of him. Emotionally, physically, you name it. They will tear the head off a grown man if they need to, Danny's had scars since he arrived in Amity Park and Sam and Tucker both are going to find the person who put them there and make them pay for it.

One time, Tucker overheard a bunch of upperclass girls speaking nastily about Danny and about the rumors surrounding him, calling him names like 'freak', 'monster', etc. Danny was with him and heard it, and seemingly appeared unbothered by it, even telling Tucker that he was used to such rumors.

Tucker was so furious that hacked into the school system later that night and tanked those girls grades. They were kicked out of their clubs and had to go to mandatory tutoring for the rest of the year. He made sure to leave some way of letting them know it was him who did it.

And Sam doesn't like using her money for things, doesn't like abusing that wealth. So instead, whenever her parents talk bad about Danny, she causes a media incident that has her parents scrambling to deal with. She does something wild, outrageous by her parents' standards.

She heard some boys on the basketball team making fun of Danny once, similar to those girls had. She kicks up a fuss about something eco-unfriendly at school and forcibly holds a protest on the same day of the big home basketball game, forcing them to cancel the event and reschedule to a visiting school.

She anonymously donates money so that there's new uniforms for the team but oops! Looks like she "forgot" to donate enough money for them to get uniforms for all the team members, and strangely enough those boys in particular didn't get them! Looks like they'll have to wait until more money gets donated for the basketball team to get their new, nice uniforms. The old ones look so ratty in comparison, right?

And since the football team gets most of the sport money, that might just take awhile. And if (and when) they kick up a fuss? oops! Off the basketball team you go, :) such unsportsman-like behavior is unfit for the team.

(The only good thing about how corrupt the school system is is that she can use it to her advantage too.)

The both of them know that Danny suspects them for the sudden misfortune falling on these people, but he doesn't call them out on it. He's kinder than he used to be, but not kind enough to vouch for people who speak badly of him. Sometimes, he might just congratulate them on not getting caught.

Because Danny is their wonderful, hurt friend with a "slightly" Blue and Orange Moral code, and enough scars that people have been calling him a criminal (and worse) since he arrived in Amity Park when he was ten. And they'll be damned if he gets hurt anymore.
