I dont know if I’ve ever discussed this particular head-canon so I’m gonna do it now. As always I love to hear thoughts on my theories so don’t be afraid of reblogging with tags and the comment section!

I don’t think spider noir goes by the name Peter Parker in his universe, I think he goes by Benjamin Urich.

NOW LET ME EXPLAIN

It’s not just convenient to have a different name than Peter Parker meta wise for distinguishing the different universe’s Parkers, I have actual reasoning. But first we have to talk about universe 90214 Ben Urich, the original. (This is going to b very generalized)

This version of Urich is an investigative reporter, who was really good at his job. So good in fact he’s associated with the likes of J Jonah Jameson(in this universe the bugle is a real newspaper who reports the facts despite criminal/political threats). There’s a lot implied that he used to work a lot more closely with Jonah and Felicia Hardy to run an information network, or web, to inform the public and keep organized crime in check. This is what earned him the name the ‘Spider’. To reiterate, the spider was an anonymous identity that few knew Urich was. However, over time he became addicted to drugs and began to take cuts from the organized crime he was supposedly working against. More specifically: the Goblin, who’s basically a mob boss in this universe. He had gone dirty, which is why I suspect his previous colleagues put some distance between them.

Fast forwards: Urich takes on Peter Parker as an apprentice after getting him out of a fight with some of Goblin’s goons outside of a protest. Peter becomes largely frustrated working for Urich due to just watching and reporting instead of doing something, this is evident during the apartment fire scene. Peter wants revenge on the Goblin for the death of Ben Parker and keeps pushing for Urich to go after him, but because of Urich’s deal with Goblin he essentially gives Peter busy work. This ultimately leads to Peter getting his powers. Later on Peter finds out that Urich has been hoarding information on the Goblin but is getting drugs from the Goblin so he’s not releasing it. He’s angry, there’s a shouting match. This ultimately inspires Urich to publish the Goblin’s information but also causing him to be killed by the chameleon in retaliation. While this was happening Peter swings in in his spider gear and mask to attack the goblin. They all assume this is Urich underneath the mask, and call him the spider. And later on people assume this masked spider is the same one who ran the information web.

Now as to the why I think Peter took the name Benjamin Urich: As seen above Peter is very much taking Urich’s place. He’s already taking the Spider’s name and it’s very convenient to have another alias to use with it. Especially one that people(from the underground at least) already associate the spider with. It’s quite literally perfect, too perfect, but that’s another post and has to do with the spider god. We already know he has a lot of heavy feelings with the name Benjamin for his uncle as well as his own middle name, which could be used against this theory. With that said I also think in this universe Peter doesn’t feel a whole lot like Peter after the spider bite. And maybe it’s gradual, but it most certainly starts with the spider bite/god. He is not the same person by the end of his run to say THE LEAST. Taking on a new identity, especially the one of Ben Urich, a man who wanted to do good, to be good but fell short, who wanted a second chance and didn’t really get it, would be a fantastic way narratively for Peter to express that.

And finally, because this Peter Parker is not the Peter Parker that May wanted him to be, but he is exactly who Benjamin Urich wanted him to be.

Entertaining myself with happy thoughts of a Spidey who’s kinda figured out how their universe is going to go based on multi-dimensional adventures to nearby universes and meeting Aaron Davis back in their home universe where he’s the Prowler in it and letting him know he should give up being a villain because his nephew might become a hero

So Aaron completely switches it around way before Miles gets his powers so he can help him out with with being a superhero, and him and the Parker of that universe just wait with bated breath to see if he gets his powers through some way

Also because they kinda know what’s going to happen they both keep avoiding Big Angst™️ stuff that’s supposed to happen, just Aaron and Miles being a family superhero duo and Mentor Spidey is there to help with the spider specific stuff

(Also one of Aaron’s things is being an expert engineer, him and Parker can totally work together even outside the super stuff)

So About That Thedas Calls Teaser...

I am by no surprise a map fiend and have been combing over the map shown. First off it is tilted and squashed to heck cause of the really fun stylization which seems to be pulling inspiration from historical nautical maps as it has at least two sea bound center points.

Second, we have confirmation of:

Treviso, Antiva

Rivain

Weisshaupt, Anderfels

There are elements that suggest the following:

Merdaine, Anderfels: a location that holds the giant white sculpture of Andraste titled "Our Lady of the Anderfels", this is also near Weisshaupt.

Minrathous, Tevinter: which would make sense considering everything we've seen in previous concept work and through the short stories and anthology Tevinter Nights

Arlathan Forest, Tevinter: Same reasoning as above

Kal-Sharok: This one is a bit more tenious because as I mentioned in the first point the map is squashed and tilted so exact location is hard to figure out. Couple with the fact the structure is largely hidden in the fog of war. It could very much also be Andoral's Reach as that is the other known location in that area, but that is in Orlais so I have my doubts.

The last image shows the whole frame for Minrathous, Arlathan forest, and the mysterious southern fortress (Kal-Sharok?) I also wonder, given that the Thedas Herbology oversized mousepad shows two varieties of deep mushrooms we've only seen in a drawing in The World of Thedas Vol. 2; the bleeding russula and the blighted morel. I wonder if that further lends to the possibility that we will be venturing back into the Deep Roads.

I'm really hoping we get to see more than one place in each location outside Tevinter. Not only that, but I also hope we get to go to Antiva City, though not named it would be interesting to see the capital of Antiva as well as how the "crown" and crows are handling the fifth occupation of Treviso by what they perceive as the Qun and if the main body of the Qun is helping fight against the rebelling Antaam as we see suggested in Tevinter Night.

I do really love the map they've shared, the stylization definitely communicates a focus on certain locals and fades away the ones we don't need to even consider. The use of the fog of war also plays so well into that and the sea monster.

Unfortunately, it doesn't portray much in terms of climates/biomes. The Anderfels looks arid as it always has, but Antiva is even more un-informing than usual. The fact the map is essentially stylized cracking rock portrays little on if Antiva is an arid climate or not. Considering Treviso seems to have snow on the mountains, and pretty low on the peaks as well, I have questions considering the rough placement we've been suggested they are on the globe and the fact that Seheron and Par Vollen are tropical and Rivain has the hallmarks of the same with the crops they grow - bananas, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, rice, chickpeas, bell peppers, ect.

Very excited to get back into the world of Thedas again.

you were exhausted. your head throbbed with irritation for the past couple of days from stress. you couldn't even think properly with the F you got on your test raging in the back of your mind, not to mention your parents were on your case about it all week.

you figured after an allowance cutoff, and your chemistry grade dropping from an A to a C+, it couldn't get any worse. and as if fate was playing the worlds cruelest trick on you, you lost your airpods friday morning after waking up late and missing your geometry class.

so, you decided to take a self care day tomorrow.

you woke up late today, since you didn't need to get ready for school. in your dorm, you noticed your roomate was already gone. you sat up, rubbing your head. checking your phone groggily, you noticed the time. 10:31 AM. you would be in third period by now.

before you coulld figure out your plans for the day, you immediately got a call from "miles, mh 💗." you picked up, and you heard him sigh with relief.

"hey ma, where are you? i've been calling for the past 20 minutes."

"i'm just taking a break today."

"what do you mean?"

"im having a self care day."

"what's a self care day?

"..nigga are you serious? you're spiderman and you've never taken a break to take care of yourself?"

miles was silent for a moment. it was like he was thinking of what to say, but before he could explain his lack of mental health breaks, you cut him off.

"come to my dorm, we're taking a break day." you didn't even hesitate to invite him to relax with you. he was able to keep you sane, and it was comforting knowing he could be apart of it.

"on my way," he said, before hanging up.

after a moment, miles showed up at your dorm. you were still in your pajamas, but he showed up in his uniform. he was probably at school waiting for you, and you felt a bit guilty for not telling him about your break beforehand.

when you opened the door for him, his face immediately shifted to worry. "jesus, what happened to you?" he said as he looked you up and down.

your eyes were half-lidded, bags sunken, hand clutching your head. you had sighed when he said that, posture already slouched from stress. "this is not the time, just come in." you said, backing up so he can walk in the dorm.

as he walked in, you led him to the bathroom and pulled out your common "spa day" materials. a face mask, or two in this case, fash wash, scrub, shampoo, conditioner, and more.

you turned to miles and held out the two face masks: an aztec claymask, or a regular charcoal mask. "pick one," you urged. as he leaned towards the aztec, you looked at him questionably. "it hurts, are you sure?"

"why is it apart of your self care day if it hurts?"

"beauty is pain," you shrugged. "yes or no?"

"fine." he said, taking the aztec clay mask container out of your hand before reading the back. as he did that, you took a moment to brush your teeth.

"you know, you can take off your uniform."

"during school hours? with the chance of getting caught? i never thought you were that kind of person." miles joked. you elbowed him as you leaned forward to spit out the water.

"thats not what i meant. put on the hoodie you left in here last week." you wiped your mouth before handing him the face wash when he took off his uniform. "the fact that you don't know what a self care day is shows you are just dirty. how do you wash your face in the morning?"

"..water? and hand soap?"

you looked at him with a hint of disgust. "wash your face, boy."

"alright, damn," miles said chuckling before he leaned into the sink.

you left him in the bathroom while you changed out of your pajamas into a t-shirt and sweatpants. when miles came out the bathroom, he had on the hoodie you handed him and a pair of basketball shorts he probably got from his bag.

"alright, good. now come here," you jestured to your desk. he walked over and sat in the swivel chair, spinning it for a moment and putting his worn-24/7-but-still-amazingly-clean jordans before you stopped him. you held up the plastic butter knife you were holding before you pulled out a small container. you scooped up some of the mask and rubbed it onto his face. specifically, on any acne you saw.

somehow, with the worst skincare routine known to man, miles barely had any acne. you were jealous of how your boyfriend had such clear skin. especially with hand soap.

you leaned back to look at your work. miles looked like a confused alien covered in the green mask. you smiled before turning away to put the charcoal mask on yourself.

"so, what does this do?"

"it basically sucks toxins out of your skin and makes sure theres no dead skin clinging to your face. helps with upcoming acne or scars." you said mindlessly, the same explanation you heard time and time again from your own mother.

"ah," he replied, before plopping onto your dorm bed. you grabbed your computer and sat with him on the bed, scrolling through the amount of assignments you'd have to make up.

miles groaned before snatching your computer and opening netflix.

"it's 'sposed to be a self care day. no homework yet. what do you wanna watch?"

you looked at him, confused, but impressed. "have you seen 'missing' yet?"

"the one with the girl's mother who got kidnapped? nah, but i saw the trailer."

"let's watch that then," you said, opening the movie and clicking it before leaning on his shoulder. he wrapped an arm around your waist as you watched the movie, and you drifted off to sleep.

when you woke up, there was a wet paper towel on the nightstand next to your bed, stained with black and green. your macbook was neatly placed, charging, and there was a note.

"hey ma,

your roomate came back from her clases so i figured i wouldn't make it awkward. i tried my best to wipe off your face mask. you were right, that shit started burning, it was so tight.

anyways, sorry about whatever happened that made you feel so horrible this morning, but i hope your 'self care day' helped.

The first time Hobie Brown looks at Miles, the world goes green and purple. Not red and blue, like normally happened.

He blinks, behind his mask. This is notable all on its own; he prides himself on his composure, on only showing exactly what he wants to show at the moment. But here it breaks.

And some part of him suddenly feels... loss. An inexpressible sadness flashes through him, and images he’s never seen before; an apartment in a world very different from his own, and yet similar enough that it needed a Spider-Man. A man, very much like a brother he doesn’t talk to anymore; a sister-in-law he’s never met in this life. A huge, forbidding man that reminds him all too well of the corporate scum that made his world in need of a man like him.

There’s other faces too. He doesn’t pay much attention to them, and there’s not a lot of importance drawn to them in this strangely familiar sensation. They’re just faces. He doesn’t care that much about them. They feel like some of the foes he’s clashed with.

For some reason, he remembers a psuedonym he used to use a long time ago. Aaron Davis. Why is it important now? Why is it screaming in his head?

He remembers something he’s never experienced before. A metal suit, a fabric augmenting the physical power of the one wearing it; gloves and boots adhering to walls as easily as wall-crawling would, a big flashy cape made of a smart material so it would be a dramatic glider when he needed it, and move with the wind out of the way when he didn’t. Some part of him thinks Prowler with a warm and giddy feeling that feels more natural that his own name does. It’s the same way he feels when he thinks Spider-Man.

The kid, Miles, pops up in these a lot. He’s... important.

His blood runs cold, and his head pulses; it hurts. Why does he feel like he knows him? Why does it hurt so much?

And why does it feel the exact same way as when he met the other Spider-People but... with a whole different context.

He feels the shadow of another life wash over him, and it leaves behind scattered impressions.

Memories of some other life. He didn’t know Miles Morales, but all the same, he felt like he did.

He remembered blood in an alleyway. A wound draining out the life in him. He remembered grief and shame, a sudden too many promises to himself that he could have been better, should have been better.

Hobie opens his eyes. The feeling fades now.

He’s still left with the feeling that he made this kid a promise.

Hobie rolls his shoulders and gets on with it. Well, he thinks. I always keep my promises.

He pauses for a moment.

Even if it was me in another life that made that promise.
