Regulus Headcanon:

He knows a bunch of languages, it was something he was interested in and he actually learned them unlike Sirius. Pandora is Greek and sometimes she will ramble in Greek and Regulus matches her. Remus speaks Dutch and more often then not uses it for cursing but Regulus call him out every time. Lily learned German and gets really frustrated when Regulus knows it too. Hogwarts may have people from all over but generally Regulus can understand basically anyone it’s his biggest flex.

But he doesn’t know Hindi and of course that is the language James speaks. And Regulus doesn’t understand him. It drives him crazy. But James loves speaking Hindi to Regulus because he knows that Regulus doesn’t understand him.

It’s a bit ambitious, especially consider I have a mountain of homework and midterms when I come back, but we’ll see what happens!

I also have like 4-5 different PWPs that have been sitting in my drafts unfinished for months, that I really want to get edited/posted : p

Sometimes im reminded that Malaysian tend to have like the habit of switching up languages with no big issues and forgot that not everyone can do that

I went to the local food market, the type that is out in the open with several stalls all placed together closely and its crowded and stuff right

So I talk to my brother and sister in English, Mandarin + Cantonese to my mom and dad. If we're ordering food from the aunty uncle, we either use hokkien / fujian or Malay (depending the race of the seller)

There was a neighbouring customer who were white(think they were from America judging from the bag and general mannerism) that started talking to my dad and he was just saying how insane we sounded switching languages around HAHA

#its funny cuz if you are a Malaysian chinese growing up there you basically can speak three languages because of our education system #Malay English and Mandarin #if you're Malaysian Indian then bonus add Tamil into the mix #and /then/ chinese have dialects like #Cantonese Hakka Teochew Hainanese etc #we get so used to mixing up our languages that we just kind of forgot that not everyone does it #i think maybe some of yall have heard “Chinglish or Manglish” from Singapore which basically means using mandarin + english together #哇那个天气今天热到cannot tahan ah walao #translation: the weather is so hot that i can't stand it omg! #that was mandarin + english + malay in one sentence #yep #gummmyspeaks

The Supreme Court Is Going To Be "Reviewing" The Indian Child Welfare Act In October

Yep. They're literally going to try and overturn the ICWA during Indigenous History Month. This is where we're at.

The Indian Child Welfare Act is a federal law that was created to decrease the number of Native Alaskan and American Indian children being forcibly removed from their homes and communities only to be adopted into non-Native homes. This is an incredibly damaging experience that is a key component of colonialism. Additionally, many other tribal sovereignty laws were passed on the precedent of the ICWA.

This coming on the heels of Roe V Wade is incredibly distressing. The combination of forced birth and forced removal of children will hit Native communities incredibly hard.

Here is a page from the Native American Rights Fund that goes into more detail; their organization accepts donations and is one of the entities battling this challenge.

Here is a page from the National Indian Children Welfare Association containing a press release about the pending court case; NICWA trains Indigenous child welfare workers and uses education and resource distribution to create positive home environments for Indigenous children. They offer online trainings for a fee and here is a page of resources about ICWA

And here is a petition created by the Lakota People's Law Project Action Center, asking President Biden and the Department of Justice to use their authority on the ICWA's behalf; LPLP is an advocacy group that was founded in 2004 in direct response to violations of the ICWA in South Dakota. They also accept donations.

More generally, here's a link to the First Nations Development Institute. They are the number one Native non-profit in the US and are in top 3% most highly accredited charities rated by Charity Navigator. They do EVERYTHING: fighting for land stewardship, financial education for Native communities, and trying to repair food inequality.

And finally, here's the Indigenous Women Rising's Abortion Fund; it is open to Indigenous people of all genders and sexual orientation who are seeking abortion care.
