🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing? 

hmmm. definitley not one single piece of media. i tend to draw inspiration from a lot of different types of media, of varying genres. i think it really depends on what im working on. for example, i found a lot of inspiration from the second season of Fantasy High for my sci-fi novel, especially the relationship between Aelwyn and Adaine (the sci-fi novel is, at the heart of it, a book about sisters). and on the flipside, i find myself thinking a lot about SKAM when writing the steddie modern AU im currently working on. anytime i write a romcom, i'm thinking about Nora Ephron films and Emily Henry's books. listening to Fiona Apple makes me insane about the OCs i have cooking in my brain and there is no discussion that Yellowjackets and The Locked Tomb series are going to be on constant repeat/re-read as i trudge through the first draft of this novel.

well, now that i look at this list, it seems i draw a lot of inspiration from films/tv rather than books. go figure.

but i also cracked open The Things They Carried bc there is one specific scene that has stuck with me since high school that i just can't help but want to emulate that feeling of grief and heaviness in my own novel.

((I like to think that a huge part of why Jun's so easy to fluster now is that he's still trying to work out how to properly regulate his emotions. For those who are relatively new (i.e. past couple years) here, you may not know that I used to RP Jun as a lot colder, a lot more negative, and a lot more stoic. But as more interactions came along with more muses, and as I grew as a writer and a person, he just kinda naturally developed to be warmer. In part because of some of my positive traits (and my own awkwardness lol) coming through.

So in a more metatextual sense I've also been viewing it as in canon, he's formed bonds with people and they've helped him grow and openly learn how to trust and be kinder. Hide himself and his emotions less. But that also leads to him being incredibly awkward and easily flustered because, for the first time in ~20 or so years depending on how old I'm writing him as, he's actually letting down his guard more often.

...or maybe I'm overthinking my own characters again lol))

AHHH im always lurking in your tags and I wanted to take the time to actually tell you how much I love your work for the witcher. I can tell how much time and detail goes into each illustration and i get so excited when i see you sharing another piece. Some of my favourites are obviously the pride and prejudice au, which there’s so much I love about it, esp with the facial expressions and how haughty and incensed jaskier is. But it’s the clothes!! The caped coat and creamy ruffled shirt, the little details of embroidery and the way Geralt’s hair is styled ugh just amazing. Another favorite is (geralt returns from a hunt in the middle of the night) like fabulous, i love the moody colours and the lighting, the midpoint freezing of Jaskier’s face as he’s just waking up. Geralt is always so guarded and mysterious in your work but when you look closely you can see just how much emotion and meaning is being rendered. ❤️

the pride and prejudice au was based on a shot from the film so I didn't do a lot with composition, but facial expressions and clothing were definitely a struggle with that one- so glad you liked how it turned out! that was a definitely a time consuming one but so fun!

in the painting with geralt returning from a hunt, I wanted geralt to be guarded with an edge of dawning confusion because he was ready for jaskier to be scared? that's also why I have his body half-turned away even though he just entered the room- he's minimizing his silhouette on purpose, because he's trying not to be a hulking shadow lurking in the doorway. and it was tricky because I did want him to look a little scary as well, without covering him in blood or leaning on the physical symptoms of high toxicity from potions.

On of the less intuitive things about love, I've found, of any kind, is the importance of needing things.

I didn't realize it until recently, but I've always seen love as something requiring sacrifice, selflessness, patience, and generosity- to ask for nothing is to be the best person I can be, small and quiet and never in the way, always happy and helpful, self-sufficient and present when desired.

It's only as an adult, now, that I'm beginning to see the selfishness of wanting nothing.

I cut my friend's hair in my kitchen the other day. They wanted a trim and I had the skills, so I offered, and was genuinely excited when they stopped hesitating over "bothering me" and took me up on it. It was a peaceful afternoon, and we had tea and chatted for an hour or more.

My brother and I shared popcorn at the movies a while ago. When I came time to pay, I pulled my card out like a wild western sheriff and slapped it on the machine before he could fight me for it first. The satisfaction was delightful.

Someone called me crying on the phone the other day. Kept apologizing for disturbing me at work, talking about how they were bothering me on my lunch break. I was telling the truth when I told them that really, I was flattered and honored and relieved, knowing that if they were hurting I would know, that I didn't have to worry in silence. It felt good to hear them slowly come down, and to know that they knew it would be better soon, and to hear them laugh wetly on the other end. We're getting together for a visit next week.

It's hard to need things, if you've trained yourself not to. It's hard to want things, when you don't know how to want anymore. Trusting people is difficult, and so is relying on them, but I don't know where I'd be without the people who rely on me.

I've heard a lot of people say, "Nobody will love you unless you love yourself". I've had a lot of thoughts about it. It's not right, but it's not wrong, either, I think.

"Nobody will love you unless you love yourself"... I've always taken that to mean, "You will not be lovable until you develop a positive view of yourself as a person".

Now, I think it's sort of inside-out.

"Nobody will love you unless you love yourself"... because nobody can show their love to you in a way that you can accept until you treat yourself kindly, and learn what you need, and what you want, and how to ask for it, and then give that vulnerability away.

Love, for me, is someone I ask for a ride to the airport. Whether they end up doing this or not is irrelevant.

It's not needy, or selfish, or taking up energy. It's giving the gift of being wanted, and needed, and thought of. It's giving someone the security of being part of someone's life.

the fact that ml has a built in mechanism for adrien to talk to the IDEA of emilie à la the steven universe episode “storm in the room” HAUNTS me. like if he got ahold of félix’s kwagatama he could have a full conversation with the version of his mom who renounced her miraculous (and who KNOWS when that was?? as early as when she got pregnant and then handed it off to the fathoms? she wouldn’t really have had a reason to use it again after that.) oh i can’t decide if he would find this cathartic or devastating or both. your mom is dead but she’s here and she can’t answer for any of her crimes because she’s hardly even committed them yet. the crime was you. she won’t believe you were a crime. your mom is dead but she’s here and she’s so young, she’s the age she was when she conceived you, when nothing bad has happened yet and she can’t stop marveling at your face and how it is so like hers. your mom is dead and she won’t believe you now when you tell her it was your fault. your mom is dead but she’s here and she loves you and you can’t touch her, she’s real and not real at the same time, just like she was when she was alive.

new dad Bakugou who’s going back to work full time almost a full year after his daughter his born and he now has to grapple with the fact that….goddamn, he’s spoiled the shit outta her.

well, he doesn’t think it was spoiling her. in actuality, he just created a routine with her, gave her every bit of his attention, held her when she cried, scolded her (yes just at eight months) whenever she’d babble for more puffs even though she’s had enough already. it wasn’t spoiling, it wasn’t. he vowed to never be that dad, to raise a snot nosed brat, one similar to himself.

but here he is, on a Tuesday morning three weeks after her first birthday. he’s standing halfway between the front door and the living room in full uniform, with his still sleepy baby and her even sleepier mama. she’s gripping his neck like he promised to abandon her, wailing and crying so loud and dramatically, that you can’t help but chuckle at her antics and how he wavers ever so slightly.

“You promised you’d go back to work,” you scold him gently, rubbing at your daughters quivering back when she whines again the moment he acts like he’s gonna pull her off. Bakugou frowns at you, and you shrug, smoothing her unruly blond curls away from her sticky forehead.

“But you guys need me.” He pouts, eyebrows downturned as he pulls her away enough to wipe at her wet face. she blubbers again, whimpering out a small dadaaaa noooo, that absolutely breaks his heart.

“And so does the world.” You smile at him, gently pulling your daughter away from the matching glassy red eyes who watch her go. “We’ll be fine, my love. Promise.”

Bakugou looks unconvinced, especially since your daughter reaches for him with another cry of his name. you don’t say anything when he sniffles discreetly, quickly reaching down to the coffee table to snatch up his utility belt that he dropped when she waddled out of her room in tears. he snaps it on wordlessly, and you go to turn to the kitchen when he wraps you both up in his arms.

“Love you,” he whispers against your forehead before pecking it, leaning down to kiss your lips next, and then your daughter’s fat little cheeks. He whispers another love you to her, and wipes away at her rosy cheeks when she pouts at him.

“Rub you.” your daughter pouts, the both of you freezing in shock.

“Oh my god,” you whisper, grinning. “She said I love you back!” Bakugou matches your grin, laughing under his breath as he presses another torrent of kisses all of her face. for the first time since she’s opened her eyes today, she laughs, loud and joyous and familiar. he thinks that maybe going back in today won’t be so bad after all. not if this is what he’ll be coming home to.
