PROFESSIONAL SQUASH PLAYER DAZAI FOR THE SOUL because he doesn’t need the arm strength that chuuya has to hit the ball, and he calculates his opponent’s moves fast enough that he can just walk across the court to where the ball lands
his racket is expensive from the money he earns as mori’s prodigy, and the court is the battlefield where he will always walk out victorious
he gets injured very often though, so he always turns up with bandages all over his body and has to change them every time he finishes up
he’s predicted to take over mori’s title of number 1 squash player internationally, and he would also take over port mafia club’s entire organisation
chuuya is his no.1 fan btw cuz dazai looks so slay and sexy when he’s focused

It’s kind of insane how Kaz dropped everything and spent a shit ton of money to recruit Inej literally overnight. The way he thought about her that entire night?? I feel like we gloss over the fact that yes Kaz saw a lot of potential in Inej to be a spy and a thief for the Dregs, BUT, there is no way he wasn’t a little bit attracted to her that night. You don’t just drop everything to go recruit someone like that cmon Kaz you aren’t slick

The other day I was rewatching Hollowtone’s vod on Psychonauts 2, which is fun because of the chat overlay. And there’s the part where you can open the powers menu and see all the nice embroidered badges and the nice signatures of the teachers that gave you them…. except Sasha’s. And this makes sense, he wasn’t authorized to teach Raz psi-blast, so it would be really bad if he’s showing off his cool badges on his bag and someone sees Sasha’s signature. So Ford signed off on the marksmanship badge. But the chat in the vod is coming up with hilarious reasons why Sasha didn’t/couldn’t sign off on it, my favorites being:
“He’s only capable of of writing in Times New Roman”
“His handwriting is bad, toddler/doctor level”
“Sasha writes exclusively in latin”
“He actually can’t write”
“He uses telekinesis for everything, if he touches a pen he instantly dies”
And I was thinking about how ridiculous they were, but when I actually think about it… is there ever a proven time he actually writes something down? Like with his hands?
He’s living in a time period where typewriters existed, and in the current time, computers do, and therefore printers… And in one of the promotional comics he’s not even using his hands to eat with a fork, he just uses his powers. He uses telekinesis for most things actually. I don’t find it out of the realm of possibility of just using telekinesis to write things down. And then, I guess he’d never actually have need to learn to do it with his hands…
Maybe Sasha can’t write.

Watched Blue Eye Samurai over the winter and promptly lost my mind over my beautifully tragic, morally dark gray girlie. I had so much fun experimenting with different brushes for the background, especially since I don’t usually dabble in the more painterly textures.

I’d like to just appreciate for a second Joey Tribbiani’s outfits.
He absolutely slays all of his outfits, (except for maybe the weird trying-to-be-cool high school/college one) and for that I would like to thank the gorgeous Matt Leblanc.
Seriously this man needs more credit.

I think the only part about the criticism for LO I can't agree with entirely is the size proportion between Persephone and Hades. Like, I don't know why, but there has been a huge discourse about how these tall men dating short women are somehow groomers and creepers?
I agree Persephone is infantilized but leave the HEIGHT out of it. I'm around 4"6' - 4"9' dating a guy who is 6"2' and three years older than me and I'm getting really tired of the critique "tall man dating shorter than average woman = creepy predator". Persephone is absolutely written like a toddler throwing a tantrum but as a short woman who expresses her inner child a lot and happens to be dating a taller, older guy, I'm getting tired of people infantalizing women who are not the average height or boob size. (Yes I've seen antis scream that women who are flat chested are minor coded!)
I can understand where you coming from and like I mainly agree. Though the main problem that I have is more so her proportions not simply her height... there is a really good post on this that I just can't find cause tumblr is shit for searching about that. Plus how her height is talked about.
Also I agree, I really don't like when critics of people rely on any physical part of their appearance.. alot of it is just borderline body shaming and infantalizaing. Most of the shit people try to pull is just.. really dumb and is often just trying to hide how people try to sanitize the sexuality of women and remove their choices by adding just unnecessary rules.
As for with lore olympus it's again more so the proportions (if anyone finds that post please tell me) and how her height is often heavily sexualized and tied to how she's presented as 'small and innocent'. It's conversations like Zeus asking how they would have sex when she's so 'itty bitty'.
Tumblr media
I feel like I'm not explaining this as best as possible haufke but my point is that in lore olympus persephone infantiliztion and sexualization is closely tied at least at the beginning of the story to her height in just.. a really weird way. It's a problem I have with like.. how most of persephone physical traits are presented. She isn't allowed to just be a short women.. she needs to be sexualized for it both by characters and the story, along with her big boobs and nativity etc etc.
I will say that it's definitely more a problem with the beginning of the story and shows up very little now but lo definitely tried to play into this wrong idea that short women are inherently more naive and childish to play up persephone infantiliztion.

To the person on TikTok who made the post asking, "Is there any piece of media where a character's name feels so out of place that you actually can't think about anything else?" Yes. Yes there is.
Luke from Percy Jackson. And I'm only talking about the original series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I know what you're going to say, "but there are plenty of characters with basic names too, why does his feel out of place??"
Let me tell you.
It's because Luke is a vital character to the original series, more-so than some of the other characters. When he reveals himself as the person who actually stole Zeus' Master Bolt and a loyal follower of Kronos at the end of the first book, he instantly became more important to the plot than before. He's Percy's main threat and foe, the exact person he needs to defeat, and by extension defeat Kronos in order to save Olympus.
Now, how is Rick going to name the other main characters, Percy — with his name actually being Perseus because Percy is just a nickname, Annabeth, Grover, Thalia, Nico, Clarisse, Chiron, not to mention most of the adult characters being major gods — because duh, Greek Mythology — and have the main villain be named "Luke"?
Do you hear yourself???
"Oh my gods, we have to be careful, Luke is so dangerous!"
Really??
No wonder Kronos possessed Luke's body. He had enough of some basic kid named "Luke" waltzing around, preaching about how everyone should worship and join Kronos. He wanted a body to preach about himself and have people actually use his name instead of people saying "Luke" is the greatest threat when it's actually him.
It's just so funny to me. The main villain in a fantasy series centred entirely around Greek Mythology is named Luke.

I imagine that the relationship between Hal and Barry slowly grew into an 'accidentally in love' trope. Especially from a universal point, I've seen headcannons of them being lovers in every universe but I feel as if with context, HalBarry slowly grew into falling in love with each other when both least expected it. I imagine that apart from being friends, it's a whole new thing for both of them as they experience their time shared together and once it's realized that the feelings are there (or mutual) it just opens up new things of ones view.
Sure they both have someone canonically, but I imagine what Hal and Carol have is something along platonically soulmates. Sure Barry is in love with Iris but when he's himself AND The Flash, he fits more with Hal in general. (also I do like that Iris can ground Barry but so can many others and Hal, I think that's REALLLYYY important to Barry's personal relationship levels that he has with people. It seems to be an important thing for Speedsters, especially with how the speed force affects them and what can help them out)
They both have flaws but I think becoming heroes showed them to accept their flaws even if they see the worst inside ("I died a sinner. You died a saint."). They both admire each other, even when they are at points where they hate parts of themselves. Hal goes from hating himself to trying to understand that someone as good as Barry is always there for him. Their bond is so strong and I just want to be reminded of the bond they have created in the earlier comics.
ALSO.....i feel that they were for SURE drawn together but to them it feels like accidentally falling in love
Tumblr media
Barry back at it again with his 12 am rambles
Tumblr media
Don't mind the quality but I want to share this, I genuinely think it's so funny that Hal brought something on the trip

Do you think the way some of us feel when someone says "Bless you" when you're coughing/hiccupping (etc) is the same way people feel when someone says "good girl/boy" for doing a task correctly?
Like that uncomfortable 'try to be a normal human being about this situation because they don't mean anything/understand what they've done'

“controversial opinion alastair carstairs has potentially had the hardest life out of any of the main characters in the shadowhunters universe so far” now you may be thinking to yourself “WHOA tumblr user thepictureofsdr back it up there, that is an incredibly bold, broad, and obnoxious take” HOWEVER i have a case to make.
(disclaimer this isn’t taking into account the villains or immortal characters while i personally understand cringe teenager psychology i cannot personally understand the psychology of people over 300 nor those with murderous urges, im not finished my degree. one more disclaimer in the notes)
there is one singular thing that i think sets alastair apart from any of his other mc shadowhunter colleagues: the fact that he has been alone his whole life.
you can pluck any mc from any cassie series and create a web of support for them, whether it be family or friends, whether the characters believe they have that support system or deserve it or not, that support is STILL THERE. at all points in TMI, clary, jace, alec, izzy, and simon were all there for each other. alec was pretending to believe jace was evil in coa? izzy was staunchly defending jace. clary had a falling out with the others? she had simon. this pattern continues into the books, with gideon and gabriel being forgiven by institute and allowed a place to heal, with jem and will each going through hell but having each other and then having tessa, with the blackthorn siblings having each other to fall back on (including emma), with kit finding a home in LA and then with the carstairs, with the merry thieves considering each other brothers, with cordelia spilling her heart out to lucie, hell even grace had jesse. obviously i haven’t named every character but you get the trend im going for. every character has had SOMEONE, a friend, a significant other, a parabatai, a sibling, the rare parent.
then we have alastair. he had a roughly normal childhood for a few years despite the moving around, having a healthy relationship with his baby sister. but then he turned 10, something changed and he lost everything. on top of having moved around a lot and not having a single stable friend, in a way, he lost his sister and parents. it’s impossible to have a carefree sibling relationship when you’re actively giving up your life and time to protect them. it is by no means cordelias fault that their relationship was lost, but its a sad truth. he loses that reliable open sibling relationship, he loses that relationship with his father, and his mother ceases to be a mother and becomes more a coworker in this panic to keep the family afloat. by taking on this adult role so early on in life he loses the innocence and unconditional reliability of those relationships, and he seemingly never turns to them for comfort ever again, with cordelia only finding out about part of his emotional ordeals in cog, and even then he doesn’t burden her with everything. with this breakdown of the parental units and relationship as well as being isolated, alastair also loses his only example of what a healthy romantic relationship should look like, he has no real idea how a partner should act, which we know will come into play later. let’s also not forget how the one family member that could’ve helped, jem, was actively pushed away by elias who raised his children to not trust silent brothers for his own personal selfish needs.
then he goes to school, desperate for friends and what does he get? a year of verbal and physical bullying, with rumours being spread about his family and bruises slowly covering him. he then has to spend years pretending he’s awful just to survive and by some miracle he gets out and makes 1 (one) singular friend who then publicly friend breaks up with him by threatening to throw him in a river at an engagement party attended by what i assume is the entire enclave (thank you matthew). THEN (yes this tragedy is still going) we get to one of the most unsettling relationships in the series, mostly because the bizarreness of it is just… never addressed? we get alastair and charles who were together in 1902 when they wouldve been about 18 and 23, meaning we got a man who would’ve graduated college by then going after someone who would have just graduated high school… on top of that it was an incredibly toxic relationship with charles making him feel as though he were worthless and a dirty secret and centered the entire relationship around him, his own schedule, his needs, his wants, never making time for anything on alastair’s terms. on top of the love sick teenager syndrome, alastair had never personally witnessed a healthy relationship so on top of that AND being desperate for the closeness and intimacy and support he’d gotten from no one before, he had no way of knowing he was being treated badly, he didn’t know any better until much later, after witnessing charles propose to not one but TWO GIRLS while still keeping alastair sidelined.
so to summarize, alastair has never had a lasting, appropriate, healthy, unconditional, relationship with 1. a parent 2. a sibling 3. a friend 4. a significant other 5. family. he has never been loved for the sake of being loved, hes never had someone care for him because he simply exists, everyone wants something from him and he’s never felt what its like to be truly cared for. for every trauma he has endured, for every night he went out as a child to find his drunken father passed out in a bar to drag him home, for every beating he suffered as a school boy, for every friendship that crumbled to nothing, for every time his only relationship used him and sent him to sleep unsure of his worth, he didn’t have a single person. there was no jem to assure him that no matter his faults he deserved love, no cecily to hand out forgiveness and remind him to not dwell on the past, to just move forward, no julian to turn to when he couldn’t hold up anymore, no izzy to tell him he deserves better or to point out the flaws in how he’s treated, no alec to let him rest and defend him, he has never experienced those healthy dynamics.
not only has he been dealt an awful set of cards, hes never had a single person to help him through life to the point where hes not only alone but the few relationships he does experience actively cause him more problems and pain. mind you this post doesn’t even really address the main traumas he endures this is just the breakdown of his relationships so just mentally add on his MAIN story to all of this… everything elias made him endure, all the bullshit the thieves throw in his face, every time hes given up his life for the sake of someone else… this is just the background to all of that.
in short i think alastair has had one of the hardest lives maybe even the hardest, not because i think hes suffered the worst traumas of all or i think he wins the sadness games, but because he has never had a single person to help him through what he’s experienced, to love him because he exists, never had a single person to care for him through it all and not only is he aware of this tragedy, he thinks he deserves it. he pushes people away, keeps his walls up, thinks he doesn’t deserve love from others, thinks he is too damaged and twisted to burden someone with his existence, and despite his genuinely kind soul, he still thinks he’s cruel and awful and deserving of nothing, but are we surprised? its not like he has anyone to tell him otherwise.

alright episode 7 thoughts, i don't know how to feel about this episode because it had both my favorite changes so far and my least favorite
procrustes' outfit was fucking VILE, it was godawful but so perfect, and honestly good casting too I think
I feel mean saying this, but does crusty's actor naturally look like that or was it makeup, because his wrinkles seem at least a bit exaggerated or maybe I'm just not used to old people looking old on tv
ok the waterbed looked cool, but I'm so mad they didn't kill him. It's probably another way to get around disney censorship but come on live a little
also the entrance to the underworld being in his mattress shop?? are you fucking serious
this is the first change that I've actually hated, like what the fuck
the entrance being in a record shop is funny and it makes sense because records/vinyl are sort of a dying fad, what's the reasoning behind the entrance being in a mattress shop???
I didn't really have many expectations for the crusty scene because it's not much of a thing in the books, but damn did that whole part annoy me
annabeth giving grover the stress ball was funny and made sense though, considering she couldn't have gotten it from waterland, and honestly her getting it from there doesn't really make sense in the first place
more about the earlier flashback, I have some thoughts about sally's characterization but I'll save it for later in this analysis
I get that all the dead lined up outside the wall makes more sense mythologically, but I'm too in love with the thought of having to sit in a record shop turned waiting room for eternity, it's just too funny to me
we didn't get charon's characterization :( I love charon in the books, I'm sad about that, justice for charon
the way cerberus just fuckin NOMMED grover, I don't think percy and annabeth freaked out enough about that, because I was freaking the fuck out
also I loved how they mentioned annabeth's dog as a kid, like that's how they should've been doing more of the exposition in previous episodes
having it be more of a background thing made it feel like a thing for the characters between the characters, instead of for the audience's sake
"it's in the dog" THAT HAD ME CACKLING he said it so dramatically with the dramatic music but it sounds so stupid I was dying repeating it to myself for so long
I LOVE what they did with the fields of asphodel, it was so creepy, and the implication that all the trees used to be people, it's so much creepier than just a bunch of people wandering around
I feel like it's a concept that's been done before somewhere, but I don't care, it's a cool concept
and then annabeth being rooted down by her regret, I feel like there should've been some beats between that and her explanation of the roots, but half hour episode, I've gotten used to the bad pacing by this point
also I'm assuming the regret has to do with running away from home? since her dad and their dog were mentioned and that's a whole thing in the book
maybe because athena's shown that she doesn't give a shit about annabeth, annabeth wants to give it another try with her dad? idk I'm just trying to think of what works logically tv series-wise
I didn't expect her using the pearl there, but honestly I think it works just fine, i have no complaints about that
percy and grover's interaction when they saw the bolt was so funny
and ok, I know they were gonna save percy's mom no matter what, but things have changed now that the solstice has passed. Zeus is already gathering an army so why aren't they rushing??
i think how they could've fixed that is have grover take the bag to bring it back to zeus, then have percy go on his own to save his mom. then maybe when he comes back to the beach ares is already there and attacking grover and annabeth or something
grover didn't do anything when talking to hades so I just think that could've worked better
OK NOW ABOUT THE FLASHBACK I...don't like how they handled sally being a mom
yes, being a mom is tough and I like that they're showing that, but when your kid asks you "why are you trying to get rid of me" you don't fuckin kiss them and walk away! that causes issues!!
I know that she didn't want to cry in front of him, I understand why she was hurt by that, but you don't just leave after your kid asks that! especially with how young percy was, she needed to reassure him that she's not trying to get rid of him
am I not seeing something here?? is that just my own trauma ringing through or something?? that was such a horrible move like oh my god, I was waiting the whole episode after that for her to go back and apologize or explain or SOMETHING, but we didn't get that
now I understand that line from an earlier episode about loving each other so much when you can only ever hurt each other, but damn
also final thought about sally, the woman playing her has a gorgeous side profile, I'm gonna draw it someday
anyway, hades's palace looks nothing like how I imagined it, I don't hate it, I just prefer my version way more mostly because I like Nico being like an actual prince in there
I hated Hades's new characterization for the first like 5 minutes, then I realized that he acts kinda like a confident Nico and that's funny
also I feel like this characterization makes him stand out more, it's very different from any other interpretation of Hades in media
at the same time it reminded me a bit of Hades in class of the titans, and that interpretation pisses me off to no end so...
but yeah, I still prefer book!Hades, but tv show!Hades is interesting so I like him
it really feels like the production crew figured out how to 3D print statues and Rick was like "that's cool, let's use statues whenever possible," there are so many damn statues in this show lol
"it's all candy canes and rainbows down here, I'm doing just fine" with the gloomy-ass wide shot and thunder in the distance, that's funny
with hades seeming to be the only one of the gods who's actively recognized how toxic the godly family is, it makes me curious how they'll handle his relationship with Nico if we ever make it to seasons 3 or 4
because his relationship with Nico is one of the better ones among godly parents, but it's not really the best in terms of parents, so I think they'd end up having to change a few things
the way sally summoned poseidon felt like a reversal of giving an offering at camp. she gave the fire to the food instead of the food to the fire. there's a meaning behind that, but I don't know how to articulate it
I was so certain that was poseidon walking up to percy, and then it turned out to be annabeth and I felt so dumb lol
but that means poseidon might be making an appearance to help percy in the fight against ares! right, maybe? i think it'd be cool
with how little percy's actually fought in the tv show, and with the exclusion of his training at camp, him beating ares without A LOT of help isn't gonna be satisfying, so we'll see
that little teaser with percy and luke going into the forest under the fireworks has me so excited
i feel like a lot of people have already said this, but I think all of the actual issues with the show are disney's fault. the censorship is just a small part of that, but the amount of episodes and their length was probably decided by disney, and that's really hurting the show.
yes, i have issues with the writing and the direction rick's taken with the series. but I definitely wouldn't have as many issues if disney allowed them more time each episode to expand on what they're going with. i saw someone say that an 8 episode series used to be called a miniseries and honestly, a miniseries isn't enough for an entire book to make it feel complete
anyway, with that all out of the way, I'm still enjoying the series, I had much fewer complaints about this episode than last episode, and honestly, all of my real complaints from this episode aren't gonna play a part in later seasons if we get them, so I'm alright with that
