Forget Me Not (Being(s) in Love Book Ten)

Detective Ray Branigan protects his chosen city of Los Cerros. Whatever feelings he has on how he is treated as a werewolf in a police department of mostly humans, Ray keeps to himself for the sake of being what he is supposed to be and doing what he thinks he is supposed to do.

…Until he wakes up in an alley with a headache, magic tingling in his nose, and no memory of the half-fairy in front of him claiming to be his mate. Ray does not have a mate, yet his instincts tell him this is right—and that something else is very wrong.

Werewolves who lose their mates get self-destructive or violent. But a miscalculation in the spell used against him has temporarily spared Ray that fate. While he still can, he has to find who did this to him, and why, and try not to get too distracted by the brilliant half-fairy who smells like home.

Callalily “Cal” Parker is beautiful, clever—and far too careful when discussing their past. Fairies are supposed to speak the truth, but maybe Cal is right to hide it from Ray, since the pack Ray has fought so hard to believe in, the police, seem to have abandoned him, and, his instincts whisper, cannot be trusted now, which means that maybe Ray shouldn’t be trusted either.

But the spell is still at work, weakening even a werewolf’s strength. When Ray can no longer fight off the magic, will he become the monster so many think he is, or the hero that his mate insists he must be—that he wants to be, to save himself, and help his city, and make his Callalily proud?

arthur shouldve had a scene like in sinbad when he's told to disarm and he starts putting down like half the armoury....and merlin's not even using magic for this arthur just Has that many weapons with him at given moment- he's not even in armour

I know its not canon but I always liked the idea that Flurry Heart grew up to be a normal pony. Never went on any princess-title-earning quest, no grand magical destiny, no real royal responsibilities. Just a normal pony (who happens to be an alicorn) free to enjoy life with her friends and hobbies

i kinda don’t get people who characterize maccready as like… secretly generous, or having a heart of gold or anything. like don’t get me wrong i don’t think he’s downright malicious or anything, but the dude is absolutely a selfish jerk once you get past the charming facade. that’s the part that’s compelling!

like, he’s nice enough and open enough with the player once you get high enough affinity with him, but his reactions to player actions still point to him being a jerk overall. the sosu just happens to be in His Circle of people he can be vulnerable with. that includes you, his son, and maybe daisy. everyone else can kick rocks, the same way it was in little lamplight

he HAD to grow up with that kind of “us vs the world, every man for himself” mentality in the capitol wasteland. doing so otherwise gets you killed or taken advantage of, which is just protracted death anyways. having grown up in a place where slavers run rampant, people are all pushing each other further down just to boost themselves up and live one more day, and it’s literally impossible to make renewable food sources because the ground is so poisoned i genuinely don’t blame him for ending up a little tight fisted. the fact that he was the mayor of little lamplight just meant that he ended up being able to accept a few people as His To Protect instead of being a total lone wolf.

the way he reacts to the players open generosity isn’t just for show, he Actually Dislikes when you give stuff away without expecting anything in return. you might need that thing and now its just gone!! that person might see you as a sucker! you give an inch and they’ll take a mile! and it makes sense for his character to be like that considering everything. i don’t get why people want to change that into him just being kind of tsundere.

i understand that having your babygirl blorbo comfort character be a canonical asshole in ways that aren’t just kinda charming can be offputting, but like…. the way he treats the sosu is a very notable exception to the rest of his life & it’s a much more interesting dynamic imo. especially if you’re playing a goody two shoes martyr. but that’s just me

See, I personally find this quest to find pagan/pre-Christian elements in Welsh/Irish literature quite unnerving - I don't know about anyone else.

There's something to be said about genuinely discovering pre-Christian elements in a narrative or story and that being where evidence and study has led you. But I see some people on this fruitless quest to find pagan elements in very Christian texts and sometimes it feels like if no pagan elements can be found, people start making stuff up out of whole cloth - and that can be very dangerous for already not-well known texts in minoritised languages!

There's already so much misinformation out there about Irish/Welsh texts and literature in general - so it hurts to see people carelessly adding to the misinformation either out of ignorance or lack of respect for the source material.

I promise you the source material being Christian doesn't ruin it - you can in fact, enjoy these myths without making them into something they're not!

#I feel like general ire towards (particularly) colonial Christianity has informed how people think of and view anything that is associated #with Christianity - and ire towards some of the ills committed in the name of Christianity is very valid actually #but what it isn't is approaching any text written in a Christian context and immediately disregarding it for having anything unique or #insightful to say. And in a Celtic languages context #this can be especially othering and almost fetishistic of an imagined pagan Ireland and Wales which was 'covered up' by Christianity #and that desire for people outside of Ireland and Wales to impose a kind of 'pagan faerie culture' onto the modern countries directly feeds #into false depictions of Ireland and Wales as 'lost in time' or as magical places full of latent pagan culture &c. which can be really #damaging in its own way against people who live in Wales or Ireland or who speak Welsh or Irish #this goes for other Celtic speaking nations too like Scotland Brittany Isle of Man and Cornwall #But Wales and Ireland tend to be the most focused on for this kind of treatment #luke's originals #Welsh #Wales #Cymblr #Irish #Ireland #welsh mythology #irish mythology #irish literature #welsh literature #Arthurian legends #arthurian literature

In love with the idea of captain marvel being Billy's imaginary friend. Like, it'd be so easy. Early depictions had them as almost fully separate people sometimes, like one soul with two minds, rather than just two filters like we mostly see now.

But imagine a Billy down on his luck, hurt and hiding from police and criminals alike, daydreaming the hours away as children do, taking inspiration from all the superheroes rising to fame, making little stories to play out his dreams of saving the world with a generic action doll he found while dumpster diving once. Most of the paint's rubbed off.

Red's his favourite colour, his comfiest jumper is a bright ruby even after all the grime and washes. Gold, too, it's shiny and warmer than silver! A hero cape is a must, big and eye catching! And he can fly, of course, like superman, and in his daydreams, when he's sore and frustrated after a long day's grind, his superhero is smart enough and knows all the right words to get the bullies to stop without resorting to fighting.

His superhero fantasy is one he spends a lot of time on, the first one he goes for when struggling to sleep at night, and he can picture it so clearly. Captain marvel is big and bright and kind, strong enough to lift the boxes for the old lady up the road who's moving all by himself, fast enough to catch Jamie who fell out of the tree on Saturday and broke his leg and couldn't come to class for weeks. He appears at the entrance to alleys when Billy is cornered, he steps up behind to cover for him when he gets caught shoplifting, he sits at the bus stop with him when it's pouring rain and the right bus doesn't seem to be coming.

And then the wizard comes, or rather whisks him away, and like a magician from a fairytale breathes life into his imaginary friend until Billy feels thrice his size and a million times more invincible.

From then on, captain marvel is a real hero, just like Billy is a real boy, and as one they save the whole city, and then the whole world, and get cats down from trees and help Mrs Victoria move the last of her boxes and she gives them a pinch in the cheek and cookies for the road and sometimes it hurts but it's so much better than he imagined.

Little Bit of Backstory

During their voyage around the world, Stan and Ford find a mysterious Portal. After making Sure it's stable and doing some Other Tests they both descide to jump in.

After who knows how long of being knocked out from being unceremoniously spat Out of the Other End of the Portal, Stan Wakes up and finds Himself in an unknown forest and Dimension. Ford is Nowhere to be Seen. After a while of Roaming around the forest Stan notices a little critter that has taken interest in him (and/or the Snacks he keeps in His Pocket). Stan doesn't mind His new companion and lovingly names him Shanklin Jr. (Although He will soon find Out that the little Guy isn't your average earthly Kind of critter).
