25 / towel / 336 words
Unofficial jegulus microfics with @emlovessid
“Not too much water!” Regulus chided, as James filled up the portable tub. It only had about two inches of water in it, but Regulus was proving to be a bit hyper vigilant when it came to their newborn son, but who could blame him?
James chuckled. “I know, love. Hand me the washcloth?”
Regulus began to hand it to James before jerking his hand back, a chastising look on his face. “Don’t go near his belly button, okay?”
“Reg, baby,” James pleaded. “Do you want to wash Harry instead?”
Regulus shook his head. “He’s so small, I don’t want to hurt him.” He looked almost sad, afraid of doing a poor job at parenting. James understood, knowing he wasn’t given a very good role model growing up, but he knew Regulus — knew the soft, gentle disposition within him and knew just how suited he was for parenthood.
James plucked the washcloth from Regulus’ hand before dipping it into the warm water in the tub and rubbing it along Harry’s soft flesh. He swiped it over his arms and under his chin, over his chubby thighs and between his miniature toes. It was really more of a sponge bath, but the little gurgling coos that Harry let out the second he was settled within the water was enough to warrant the whole ordeal.
“Drape the towel over your lap, Reg,” James instructed. “You can do it, love.”
Regulus shook his head nervously, but obliged anyway, laying the towel flat over his thighs, feet tucked beneath him. James pulled Harry out of the water, one hand behind his head as he set him gently onto Regulus’ lap, tucking him into the soft yellow towel.
James wrapped the towel around Harry like a swaddle and immediately raised him up until Regulus wrapped his arms underneath their son.
“You think I can do this, James?” Regulus whispered, looking down at the bundle in his arms.
James smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of Regulus’ head. “You already are.”

Evan and Barty would constantly cuss James out for ‘domesticating’ Regulus.
Once Regulus was a cold bitch, but now Regulus smiles and blushes and talks about butterflies being in his stomach.
Sure, they didn’t like Regulus being a bitch, but he was their bitch. And they would like that back.

@jegulus-microfic february 9, movie, 110 words
“You’re not even watching the movie.”
They’re only fifteen minutes in, but James has already given up, rolling over on the couch to wrap his arms around Regulus’ waist and press his face into Regulus’ stomach.
“The movie was a guise, I just wanted to cuddle,” James mumbles into Regulus’ jumper.
“You could just ask me to cuddle, you know?”
James’ hand reaches up blindly, almost poking Regulus in the eye before a finger settles against his lips and James shushes him. Pressing a kiss to James’ fingertip, Regulus brings a hand up to run through James’ hair, a smile on his lips as his eyes return to the screen.

I hate how everyone shits on soft! Remus Lupin like as if canonical he isn’t the biggest sweetheart ever.
Tumblr media
This TikTok post from @theonottineedusobad made me so happy and sad bc Remus is just so good™️ and I think the fandom forgets this for the new bad boy version of Remus that to me seems so forced and off putting
Let Remus be soft again!!! Let him wear his jumpers and read his books without smoking weed or stealing. Let him play pranks without being cold, let him be nice and gentle and sensible while also being a smart and mischievous teenage boy.
Let Remus be the glue of the marauders!! Not James or Sirius, REMUS!! Bc he literally is! Explore why James and Sirius, who probably were more rude and pretentious when they were younger, admired him so much that they broke the law for him. Explore the dynamics of the 4 boys as a group not just as best friend duo james and Sirius with a side of wolfstar relationship and a forgotten Peter.
As much as wolfstar shaped the fandom I really wish we could get a canon accurate marauders fic to see more of the friendships.

Interruptions (1/1) (jegulus raisign Harry)
Regulus couldn't care less what was going on, all he wanted was James. He wanted James and he wanted him now. He didn't care if there were other people around, or if they were busy, or trying to work.
But lately Regulus' attempts to get James attention, full undivided handsy attention, were being bested.
By a 3 year old.
By their son.
By their 3 year old son Harry, whom recently leaned how to open bedroom doors and interrupt his parents "funny business".
Regulus loved his son more than anything in the world. More than James honestly but he was still that 16 year old sometimes who just wanted to sneak into a broom cupboard and make out with his secret love.
But instead, tonight as they were making out in the hall closet, trying to secure one moment of peace, they heard the tiny feet shuffle across the floor, pull a door open, and then the banging on the closet.
"Papa, Papa, Dada, Dada," Harry would say in his tiny little voice.
James would pull away quickly and Regulus would groan. James always happy to go wherever he is needed, opens the door for their son and quickly scoops him up.
"What's up kiddo?" James says as Harry nuzzles into his shoulder.
Regulus sighs, a smile creeping across his face because he can't get enough of his family, of his life. He took a step forward, wrapping his hands around James' waist and squeezing Harry in between them.
"Can't sleep... my blanket is itchy," Harry mumbled, eyes already dropping heavily now cuddled by his fathers.
"Come on, love," James said. "Let's go back to bed," he added.
To Harry's defence, the blanket he was referring to was wool, but Regulus is not convinced it's sheep, as Barty and Evan laughed far too hard about it's material when they gave it to Harry when he was born. The problem is, the boy is still just a little one and demands the blanket even though every night he doesn't like it.
Regulus and James walked back to Harry's room, and gently placed the toddler on his bed, while Regulus switched out the blankets per their nightly routine with one hand knit from his gran. Regulus was pretty sure she knit with silk sometimes because all of her items were so incredibly soft.
They watched as Harry settled so quickly, gripping the blanket with a tiny fist, and then both kissed his cheek to tuck him in. Harry was sleeping soundly before they even made it out of the room.
"Want to?" James asked pumping his eyes brows at Regulus, and pulling Regulus into him by his shirt and jeans and anywhere he could grab really.
Regulus leaned in, kissing James sweetly but firm, and when he pulled away only mere inches, he nodded his head. A glint in his eyes that matched the mischievous sparkle in James'.

23 / urge / 189 words
@jegulus-microfic
“I wonder how many freckles you have,” James said, reaching a hand up to poke at Regulus’ face, to count each little freckle over his cheekbones and the bridge of his nose.
Regulus smacked his hand out of the way; he didn’t have time for that.
“What color do you consider your eyes to be?” James asked next. “Grey? Silver?”
Regulus groaned, tipped his head back in exasperation. “James, I need to study.”
“You know when you tip your head back like that, I just get this urge to lick up the column of your throat.”
Regulus nearly laughed — or maybe it would’ve been a giggle, really — if he hadn’t been so practiced at scowling. “Go bug someone else already.”
“Do you think someone else will let me count their freckles?” James asked, beginning to stand.
Regulus sighed, not wanting to give into James’ baiting, and yet… “Fine,” he relented. “Just do it quietly.”
The rest of Regulus’ study session was filled with quietly whispered numbers, but he could never really complain that James Potter gave him so much attention.
Not when he liked it so much.

[during a Quidditch match Gryffindor/Slytherin]
Quidditch commentator: And there's a lot of wind today, on the pitch! It's deviating every quaffle Gryffindor is trying to send in the Slytherin goals! James Potter, our favourite chaser, seems to have quite a hard time seeing the goals properly! [insert fake ass laugh] No surprises, with all this hair flying on his face!
James, grumbling, annoyed because his hair keeps flying in his eyes:
Regulus, flying by with a mocking smile: Forgot to brush your hair, this morning, Potter?
[later]
Regulus, his hands stroking James' hair:
James, grumbling again but with a grin this time: Blah blah 'forgot to brush your hair this morning Potter', you don't say that anymore, now. *relaxes in Regulus' arms* They don't know you love my hair.
Regulus, smiling sweetly, with a menacing tone, scratching James' scalp: Don't you dare tell anything to anyone.

(10/6) prompt: pumpkin — 993 words (jegulus dads + harry; family pumpkin carving silliness) @jegulus-microfic
“Papa?” Harry’s head pops up above the overly large pumpkin in front of him as he shifts onto his knees.
Naturally, he picked one of the biggest in the patch they had taken him to. James had to carry it up on his shoulder when they left; it’s half the five year old’s height when Harry stands up. They’ve got their work cut out for them in hollowing the thing out and carving it, but as usual, neither Regulus or James could say no when Harry asked so sweetly.
“Yes, my darling?” Regulus replies, stretching his legs out where he sits on a patio chair.
James is responsible for the pumpkin insides, Regulus isn’t handling all that mess. He’ll help with the carving itself, but the gutting is all his husband. There’s a growing pile of seeds and strands on the laid out newspaper on their back patio as Harry and James continue to dig in with bare hands and scoop more out. Harry stands and throws down a fistful with a sticky slap, Regulus’ nose wrinkling faintly before green eyes land on him again.
“Can we watch the Jack and Sally movie after dinner tonight?” Harry requests.
“Again, mate?” James chuckles. “We watched that one two nights ago.”
“Well, I like that movie,” Harry huffs, almost going to put his hands on his hips before he halts, finding a seed stuck to his palm.
He flails his arm wildly, trying to shake it off. Laughing again, James catches their son carefully by the wrist and plucks it off for him, a polite ‘thank you, daddy’ leaving Harry’s mouth afterward. Fondness blooms warmly in Regulus’ chest, in the unstoppable smile his lips curl into. James looks over at where he sits, a mirrored look of loving pride on his handsome face.
“We can watch whatever you like, sweetheart,” Regulus assures.
“I want my pumpkin to look like Jack, too,” Harry says, nodding.
“We have the stencil kit for it, remember? He’ll be perfect,” James tells him, head inclining Regulus’ way. “Papa will make sure of it.”
“I’ll certainly do my best.”
“And what do we do with all this stuff?” Harry thrusts an arm down at the pile of pumpkin insides, a scrunched look on his face.
“Some people make different foods with it, but we’ll just throw it away,” Regulus explains.
“Yeah, because we can’t eat pumpkin seeds. Got to be careful with those,” James adds with a mischievous grin.
Regulus rolls his eyes despite the smile remaining on his face. Oh, here we go.
“Why?” Harry questions.
“Because if you eat pumpkin seeds, then a pumpkin will grow in your belly.” James reaches out to grab Harry around the middle, dirtying his shirt with sticky hands when he tickles at his sides.
Harry lets out a squealed string of giggles as he squirms away from the playful attack. Once he’s caught his breath and put a little distance between himself and the threat of his father’s wiggling fingers, it obviously dawns on him what he’s just been told. A look of horror crosses the little boy’s face as it sinks in fully.
“Wait, what?” Harry whips toward Regulus, looking to him to confirm this worrying news.
Regulus huffs a laugh, shaking his head. “He’s joking, my darling. Don’t worry.”
“Am I?” James challenges.
He merely smirks when Regulus fixes him with a pointed stare.
“Watch, I’ll show you.” Regulus pushes up from his chair to cross the patio.
He stops at the edge of the newspapers and bends to pick up a pumpkin seed that’s not buried in strands so he doesn’t have to get his hand too dirty. James leans back on his own hands, watching him amusedly as Regulus pops the seed into his mouth. His husband is well aware of his lack of liking for most things pumpkin, as food goes. James looks far too satisfied with himself as Regulus chews slowly.
Harry gasps, bolting toward where Regulus stands and pressing both hands against his stomach. So much for staying cleaner than the two of them. Regulus should have known it was unavoidable.
“Are you okay, Papa?” Harry asks, blinking wide eyes up at him.
“Yes, I’m perfectly fine,” Regulus answers, making it a point to cut a sideways look at James where he fails to stifle his laughter. The asshole. “Daddy was just playing with you.”
“Are you sure?” Harry pushes a little harder at Regulus’ stomach until Regulus lays his much larger hands over his.
“I’m very sure. No pumpkin, I promise.” He nods.
Harry’s hands slip out from beneath Regulus’ and fall to his hips when he swivels toward James. “That wasn’t very nice.”
It’s Regulus’ turn to laugh now. Every day Harry grows to be more and more like each of them in different ways. It’s always pleasantly surprising when it’s him that the little boy mirrors.
“No, it wasn’t,” Regulus agrees, copying Harry’s stance with his hands on his own hips. “What do you think, Harry? No dessert for him tonight?”
Harry grins with his own dangerous mischief —a perfect combination of both of his fathers with the way he stands paired with the look on his face.
“And no more Papa kisses,” He snickers.
James sits up straight, holding his hands up in defense. “Whoa now, let’s not get crazy here.”
“I agree with Harry.” Regulus snorts when James immediately scowls at him.
“This is outrageous,” James huffs. The corners of his mouth twitch upward no matter how hard he tries to look serious, to feign his offense at this joint verdict for his punishment.
They both know that’s an impossible thing for either of them to agree to anyway, but they’re experts at playing along for Harry’s sake. As it is, Regulus already battles the urge to duck down and kiss James quickly in appreciation for always being a continuous light in their lives. No matter how ridiculous he does it.

@jegulus-microfic // march 18 // prompt: instrument // words: 758 // part two + part three
“What do you play?” James asks, voice muffled as he is digging through his laundry basket.
“Huh?”
“Instrument, I mean.” James turns to face him. His glasses are halfway down his nose and Regulus’ fingers twitch with the need to adjust them. James is annoyingly handsome. Even in the middle of the night when his hair is tousled and his glasses are smudged and he has baby formula on his ratty college shirt, tan skin glowing under the fluorescent lights of the basement laundry room.
“What do you play? We’ve been talking every night but I don’t even know what instrument you play. I hear you sometimes when I get home.”
“Shit, I'm sorry, I can try to keep it down.”
“No, please, I like it!” Another second of rummaging before James shuts the door to the machine, twists the dial and presses the start button. “It sounds nice. Harry likes it too.”
James checks the volume on the baby monitor again, making sure it is still turned all the way up. When he is sure it didn’t magically turn off in the minute since he checked last, he places it gingerly on the bench in the middle of the room, sitting down next to Regulus.
Their shoulders brush. His arm feels warm where it is pressed against James’, despite the frigid air in the basement.
“Ah, thank you. It's uh— violin. I'm at the conservatory for classical music.”
“You must be really hard-working, then.”
This pleases Regulus, satisfaction burrowing its way into his chest, making him preen a little. People always think he is talented.
Secretly, Regulus hates that word. He has never been talented. No particular skill that stood out — and his parents made sure he knew it.
So yes, Regulus is hard-working. Passionate. Stays up until 3 A.M. to practice, tucked away in the laundry room so he doesn’t wake Sirius in their tiny two-bedroom apartment.
That’s how this whole thing started. Regulus, resident insomniac, slipping out of bed with his violin tucked under his arm. James, still adjusting to the fact that his son is now sleeping through the night, doing chores on the wrong side of midnight.
“I have to be, if I want to be the best,” Regulus says.
“I’ll have to come see you play sometime, then.” James makes it sound like a give. Like it is something he is willing to make time for. Regulus’ heart flutters. Traitor, he whispers at it.
“Do you now?” His teeth tug at the dry skin on his lips, picking at it until he bleeds. Sirius always tells him off for it but it is a nervous habit he has yet to beat.
“Absolutely. If you’ll have me that is.”
A hurried yes almost bursts from him, but he traps it behind his teeth before he can actually say it. He tries to play it cool despite the heat in his face, a teasing tone as he says, “Maybe. Gotta see if you’re worth keeping around first.”
James laughs at that. Regulus thinks it sounds sweeter than his violin ever has.
“I’ll be such a good audience, I swear. I can make a career-switch. Go from sports reporting to music reporting.” Because James works for the local newspaper. Writes sports columns. Takes his son with him to football games, a tiny infant strapped to his chest. The mental image of James at a recital with baby Harry on his hip makes Regulus’ heart flutter again. “Would that be enough proof of my dedication?”
More fluttering. Traitor, traitor, traitor. Regulus pretends to ponder on it for a moment.
“It’ll do. For now.”
James scoffs. Rolls his eyes. “For now, he says.”
It sounds fond.
Neither of them says anything else but Regulus doesn’t mind it. His eyes are trained on the laundry machine with his clothes in it. He watches it spin and spin and spin. Lets himself get hypnotized by the repetitive motion, the quiet humming, James’ even breaths. It’s peaceful.
“Same time tomorrow?” Regulus asks when he has gathered all his laundry, the basket propped against his hip. He doesn’t miss the way James’ eyes droop with his nod. He chuckles softly at the sight. “Get some sleep, James.”
A mumbled, “Sweet dreams” follows him out of the room.
For once, Regulus is eager to fall asleep, only so he can see James again tomorrow.
It is only in the silent halls of the apartment building that he lets himself think that there is no sweeter dream than those moments they share.
