[Image Description: Two near-identical images of an anthropomorphic wheaten terrier with a cream-colored coat of fur, a tan muzzle and ears, short brown hair on their head, and grey eyes. They are wearing purple square-framed glasses, a purple t-shirt, and blue denim pants. They have a large woodcutting axe slung over their shoulder, their free hand on their hip, and they are winking while sticking their tongue out. Behind them is a green grassy hill, where pieces of a large wooden pole with arms and a red cloth are laid out as it has been chopped down. The sky overhead is a muted sunset. White text outlined in black along the top reads: "I don't need to be "saved" from empty threats and natural inclinations! My life is fine as is without blood sacrifices, real or imaginary! You can keep your messiah, I'm fine just as I am!"
The second image is the same as the first, just without text.
End ID.]

I've been getting a lot more vocal about my atheism over the years, especially with the rise of christian nationalism and all the laws that keep getting passed with a certain old-ass book used for the sole justification for them. Mostly the ones being put in place to discriminate against various varieties of LGBTQ peeps--especially the T, but the other letters are feeling the pressure too--as well as the dissolution of the Roe v Wade decision. And I'm also getting sick of all these high-profile religious people saying that my life is meaningless when I won't put their favorite zombie in it! So you know what! I say it's time to bring that big wooden torture device down! Yaaaayyy! Also I wanted to draw my fursona again, I went through the whole trouble of conceptualizing and designing them (even if they are just me as a wheaten) I might as well use them more often!
Semi-obligatory disclaimer, because I know someone's going to harp on me if I don't say this (and even if I do someone likely will because you know how these types of people are): This art is NOT me attacking individual christians who are just minding their business and following their old book without trying to push it onto anyone else. This is meant to represent me fighting back against compulsory christianity, obnoxious apologetics, evangelism everywhere, christian nationalism at the institutional level, and in support of true separation between church and state. Which when all the money in the US insists that we all trust in a god (and you KNOW which god they intend) and people are able to get into office based almost solely on "god and country" platitudes, you know that still hasn't been properly achieved.

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, an exuberant Irish farm dog, is happy, friendly, deeply devoted, and just stubborn enough to remind you he's a terrier. The unique wheaten coat is low-shedding but needs diligent care to avoid matting.

What if Jack,Hercules, Hermes, Thor, Hlokk, and any other characters you want got sucked through a portal and meet there au dog counterparts and there owner who is a single mom and her daughters one is in her teens and the other is a toddler who just learned how to walk steady on her feet.
•Dog Jack and dog Hercules like to walk the older daughter to and from the bus stop, they live on a farm in the country so the bus stop (which is basically a tree with a bench underneath it) is a long, long way from the house.
•Dog Jack has his own puppy a little female who is the runt of the litter. His owner breed him with a Great Dane female who belonged to an acquaintance and then when the pups were sold they went there separate ways. All the other puppies got sold but they let Jack keep this one since they became so attached to each other,Hlokk is pretty much her big sister (or should I say small sister, even a runt from a half Great Dane litter would be kinda tall.).
•Hlokk can tell it’s them cuz of her keen nose,Jack made a comment in an extra chapter that she has a keen nose. And if that wasn’t enough to convince them the dogs even have the same names as them and look exactly like them lol.
•Each dog has there own role to play on the farm like for example:
•guarding the house and the barn at night.
•rounding up the hens if they get loose.
•chasing foxes and or raccoons out of the hen house.
•herding the sheep.
•keeping predators like wolves and cougars out of the horse corral and barn.
•making sure the cats doing it’s job as pest control eating rats, mice, snakes, etc
.•babysitting (yes Jack and or Hercules babysit BOTH daughters even if the older says she doesn’t need it. They know she likes the company.).
•being escorts for the girls is one of them (a self assigned role) they both get a hug a kiss and an I love you before she says goodbye and gets on the bus and when she gets of the bus.
This was fun, but reading your posts on the dogs to use, I couldn't help but wonder what a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Great Dane mutt would look like. Great Danes are short, coated breeds, so I'm curious if it would have longer fur or not. Great thinking question and an interesting idea for a post. Thank you.
-It started with an accident, a magic spell gone wrong, spiriting away 2 gods, 2 demi-gods, and 1 human, dropping them in front of a large farmhouse.
-A young teen girl had been on the porch, and she ran inside, calling for her mother who quickly ran out, the teen holding a toddler in her arms, peeking out from behind her mother.
-The magic seal that brought them to you was still glowing as you put your hands on your hips, eyes narrowing, “What magic brought you here?”
-Hermes and Thor were a bit surprised you knew about magic, as you were a human, but Hermes was the one to speak, “A magic spell gone wrong. We overestimated the power needed to teleport across Valhalla and wound up here. How is it that you know of magic?”
-You smiled, almost mysteriously, “It’s not the first time I’ve had guests like you lot.”
-Loud barking filled the air and attention turned to two large dogs charging towards the group, with a third, smaller dog running behind them.
-The dogs put themselves in between your new guests and your family, growling darkly until you told them to stand down, as they were distrustful of strangers.
-You grinned at the guests, “Sorry about that, Hercules, Jack, and little Hlokk here aren’t too fond of strangers.”
-Eyes went wide and jaws dropped, looking at the three massive dogs, a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, who’s long facial fur looked strangely similar to Jack’s mustache, and a Carpathian Shepard, who was massive, but once you told him to stand down, he was sitting down with his tail wagging a million miles per hour, reminding them all of a certain Greek demigod. Hlokk was a mutt, half Wheaten Terrier, half Great Dane, she was smaller than her father, Jack, but was still a large dog, wearing a bright pink collar around her neck.
-You were surprised to learn the names of your guests, a giggle bubbling out of you before Hermes surmised that they were in an alternate dimension, where they were all animals instead of being gods or a human in Jack’s case.
-Hercules initially was unsure of this idea, until Glokk spoke, pointing at her nose, “No, Hermes is right, your scents are both very similar, plus they look like you.”
-Hercules was quick to accept it, quickly bonding with Hercules while your Jack trotted over to their Jack and sat beside him, looking up at him as if he was expecting pats, which he quickly got, looking content.
-You introduced yourself before your two daughters, Michelle, or Mickey as she prefers, and your toddler, Poppy.
-Mickey was a bit uneasy with these guests, being a bit distrustful, while Poppy was giggling brightly, waving her arms out towards Thor who was a bit surprised that the toddler didn’t look afraid of him at all.
-Hermes was able to calculate that he could get them all back to their own dimension, but it would take a day or two, and you didn’t hesitate to welcome them into your home.
-Hercules teased Hermes when Poppy saw your black cat that you kept on the farm for pest control, carrying him over, the cat looking calm and wasn’t fighting, “Hermy!”
-Hermes was amused that he was a cat, the two quickly liking each other, as they were so similar in personality.
-Mickey was a bit wary around the men, as they were strangers, until Jack saw her reading Shakespeare and her eyes lit up with sparkles as she was finally able to have someone to talk to!!
-Mickey also bonded with Hlokk, who, while shorter, became like a big sister, talking about clothes.
-Poppy on the other hand adored both Thor and Hercules, hugging their legs, beaming up at them when she managed to toddle over to them.
-The next day Jack and Hercules watched as your Jack and Hercules walked Mickey off of the farm, taking her to the school bus stop about a half a mile up the road, the two men following after, speaking with Mickey, curious about where she was going.
-Thor got to meet his animal, a large reddish colored bull, who looked calm, but Thor could easily sense the power and the two had a stare off for what felt like forever.
-Your Hermes had a job of pest control, keeping rats and other rodents away from the crops, as well as handling any intruders in the chicken coop, while your beloved canines handled with security, letting you know of any trespassers, humans or animals.
-You enjoyed having the few extra helping hands on the farm, as Hercules and Thor got into a competition over who could haul the most hay bales to the barns, while both of the Hlokk’s looked after Poppy.
-Jack tended to your vegetable garden, finding weeding it quite relaxing and Hermes was inside your home, with your permission, preparing lunch for everyone, while you were walking your cows out to their pasture to graze.
-When Mickey got off the bus she beamed, “Where’s my favorite boys?! Where’s my kisses?!” she instantly flushed, seeing both sets of Hercules and Jack there as the two dogs ran over while Jack chuckled warmly at her.
-You had to admit they were good company to keep, seeing the healthy appetites all around the room, including your own girls, was refreshing, but it was fun to keep feeding them until most were in food comas.
-Hermes was the only one who remained awake, sitting beside you on the porch swing, his head on your shoulder as he tried to stay awake, “May I ask, why weren’t you freaked out by seeing us?” you chuckled softly, rocking the swing lightly, “As I said, you’re not the first visitors I’ve had. The first one showed up when I was still pregnant with Poppy, right after my husband abandoned us and the farm. He was a funny man, but Mickey liked him, and he was kind enough to help me around the farm for a while after I gave birth.”
-Hermes was a bit curious, tilting his head up, “Oh? May I ask who that was?”
-You smiled softly, remembering your friend fondly, as he was funny but also mischievous, “His name was Loki.”
-Hermes snorted into his hand, laughing out loud while you smiled lightly as he thought it was hysterical that Loki came here first and helped you out.
-You leaned back, “Don’t mention that I told you about him, he was quite shy when he would talk about his family, like they didn’t want him finding out about where he had been. But if you see him, I have a Billy goat that’s a little shit just like him.”
-Cue round two of laughter.
-The following morning you, Mickey, and Poppy all wished your new friends well as you saw them off.
-They each said goodbye to their animal counterparts, except for Thor, who lifted his hand to his face, pointing two fingers at his eyes before he pointed them at the bull and only Thor saw the bull lift his hoof to his face before pointing back at Thor.
-Poppy was crying, not wanting to say goodbye, the same with Mickey, who didn’t want to lose her big sister and the first father figure she’s had in years.
-You were the only calm one, as your farm was a hot spot for events like this. You had a feeling this wouldn’t be the last you see of them.

Soooo I decided that after my last drawing, which funnily enough was the last thing in my list of things to draw before I decided to repopulate it with More Fun Things, I was going to make a few changes about how I go about things art-wise. The first is that...well, I added a new version of myself do my revolving door of situational personas! Im pupy :3c I've been interested in soft-coated wheaten terriers lately, partly because of legitimate research for eventual pet parenthood (they're a hypoallergenic breed!) and partly because they look like living teddy bears and I love that about them ;w; The other thing I decided to change up is in using multiple brushes for my character shading rather than just the one I always use, as kind of an attempt to better differentiate different materials, like how I handle the scenic backgrounds in pieces that have them. They're still default brushes (mostly cuz I still don't know how to permanently add a new brush to GIMP), but at least it's more than just "2. Hardness 100" all the time. Is it noticeable? Eh, even if it's not too noticeable, I still had fun with it and that's what matters hehe.
...I really don't know if I tagged this accurately tbh, I guess it's technically furry-adjacent so I'll stick that tag on there but idk whether I am one or if I'm just dabbling a little if that makes any sense? Does it? Idk, I just wanted to be pupy X3

Welcome to the first ever Succession Dog Show
Contestants have been split into seven groups for the first of three rounds. The second round will have the same groups, with just the top three from the first round. Then the winner of each group will move on to the final round‚ which will also include special guest Mondale Roy. Also, Marcia is the judge because <3 and I say so.
In each group there are five succession characters plus three more normal dogs because I didn’t think five was enough and also I think it’s funny that it’s a possibility that none of the characters make it to the final round.
These polls all will last 1 week‚ closing and opening on Sundays.
Here are the Round 1 polls:

Hound Group
Non-Sporting Group

Terrier Group
Toy Group

So I’ve fallen in love with rat terriers(and American hairless lol), only problem is I’m in an fci country and because I’m into confo, I’ll have to reconsider getting one until it is accepted by fci or at least as a second sports prospect dog. Because of this, do you have any alternative (preferably smooth) terriers or other breeds of dogs that are similar in temperament? Maybe what other breeds you were considering before pike? So far, I’ve come close in German pinschers, but I’d still like to hear from you. I’d like a confident feisty dog that is biddable yet still has a mind of its own, aloof with strangers and very affectionate(velcro) with me, while also being active.
Oh man same <3
Okay so full disclosure, I have extremely limited experience with dogs in general. I mean, I barely know what they are...
My top two contenders were Rat Terriers and Border Terriers! The choice was made when I got offered a puppy (Pike). I definitely adore RT’s and plan to stay with them, but I would still love a little Border at some point. Another terrier lite that’s come into consideration are soft-coated Wheatens but they seem more...goofy?
A lot of the RT people I have been meeting are either coming from, or are still involved with Dobermans. I don’t know where German Pinschers fall in comparison but they are gorgeous.
Pichael herself is on the nervous side and doesn’t usually seek out attention from strangers, but this is also something I have worked on since she’s come home. She adores the people who have taken the time to befriend her, but is still very much my dog. She is very engaged, very biddable, she tries so hard and sometimes that’s by going so far out of her way. She once did weaves in five completely different ways when she wasn’t sure what was up.
Rat Terriers are nothing if not affectionate. You want a portable heater? You want to never be left alone? Pigorelli is a leggy 21lbs and she fell asleep stuffed in my sweater. They love doing things with their people.
Honestly if showing isn’t a complete deal breaker, Rat Terriers are very fun, versatile, sporty little dogs. They are doing well in a whole variety of sports which is cool.

Had a new client today with a soft coated wheaten terrier puppy, with booking notes saying she wanted the breed clip. I groom quite a few of those (surprisingly, as they're not a common breed here), but none of them get the breed clip because no one likes that maintenance and people like to see their dog's eyes. I pull out Notes from the Grooming Table to refresh myself and prepare for a conversation about how I have the pattern but it's not something I do regularly so it may not be perfect.
When the owner arrives to drop off, the receptionist comes to grab me and warns me that she comes off as someone like to be a problem, and I'm like oh boy.
Go up to talk to the lady and she has this pretty grown-out four-ish month old puppy and first thing she tells me snidely about how she "wanted to get her in sooner, but that's another story." I ask what she wants and she shows me a picture, which is... a teddy bear face. She tells me next that she wants to work her into a proper wheaten clip later, and proceeds to show me all these pictures of wheatens with a proper fall, so I ask if she wants me to still leave a bit of a beard and eyebrow today so she's more set up for that clip in the future than the picture she's showing me would. She says yes. Then she says, "So the booking information says she'll be done by this time, right?"
I tell her because this is a puppy's first groom, I want to take my time so it will take a little longer, and this woman sounds like she's about to cry at the thought of that of that but says, "Okay," and I tell her the estimate I think it'll more likely be and she seems reassured a little and I take the dog back.
When I get her back in the salon, I realize we never actually talked about what we would be doing on the dog's body because the owner was so focused on the face. Oops.
I opt to do a wheaten pattern on her body and just pick lengths based on the owner's goals/my impression of her and get going. But the whole time I'm worrying, "oh no, she's going to say I took her too short," "oh no, she's going to be one of those people that freaks out that I took all the black tips off her puppy," "oh no, she's going to hate the face because it's some hybrid of a wheaten and a teddy bear even though she said to do that," "oh no, what did she mean by that comment about wanting to get the dog groomed sooner, did she want someone else to do this and I'm just plan B? I assumed she was referred by my other wheaten clients but now idk"
Finish the dog like four minutes late, but amazingly this lady didn't show up demanding her dog at precisely the time I predicted, so I call the lady, and when she answers she asks how her dog did and then says, "Oh, and I was reading your bio on the website-" (Me, thinking: I have a bio??) "And I saw it says you have an Irish Setter! We had Irish Setters when I was growing up! My mom used to raise them for conformation shows until she got too old for dogs that size, then she went to English Cockers. That made me feel so much better."
On the one hand I'm thinking, "okay, this confirms that I wasn't her desired groomer if she's going digging on me," and on the other, "yay Irish Setters for bringing people together! Hope this doesn't set her expectations too high that I'm going to have given her wheaten some kind of show groom." (Also, thirdly: who wrote me a bio and what does it say)
It feels like a good thing but we won't know for surr until this dog is picked up.
Anyway, so I'm running behind because my schedule wasn't put together today to accommodate a puppy's first groom so I get working on my next dog and the receptionist brings the puppy up for me when the owner gets here. I'm hoping she'll tell me what the owner thought since we're all worried about this, but quite some time passes.
Finally, she bursts through the door. "Mary! That lady with the wheaten? When she saw her she just started sobbing-"
oh no
"-because she thought it was so cute!"
omg what a relief gkdfksd
"Like seriously she was down on the ground and making a whole scene but she was so happy, she thought the dog was the cutest thing in the world and she just couldn't stop going on about it and she said she's going to be coming to you forever and then she told me like her entire life story about [all these things she's been through] and how she got the puppy to be an emotional support animal and she's just so happy with her and how she looks and I made sure to remind her your name so she could ask for you going forward and she's already rebooked her next appointment for next month!"
So anyway, ultimately it sounds like she'll end up being a good client and whatever happened that she wasn't able to get her puppy groomed when/where she originally wanted seems to have worked out? I don't know what was said to the receptionist at the beginning to give her a bad feeling (she had gone home by the time I left today) but I'm glad things turned out okay because we've definitely met plenty of clients that are just impossible to please.
And for those that made it this far, I tried to take pics of the puppy because she was indeed very cute, but they all pretty much turned out like this because she was also very excited to be done
Tumblr media
But here's an only slightly blurry grab from a motion pic
Tumblr media
Here's hoping things go as well next time!

Did I ever tell you the story about my dad's favourite childhood dog?
For thirty years I'd hear random stories about how awesome westies are and how his westie used to line up the various dead rodents on the porch every morning while my dad was doing his farm chores. Or if he was feeling particularly nostalgic about the time his westie took on a badger that was threatening the chickens.
I was always a bit skeptical about that last one and figured my dad was just exaggerating and the westie only alerted and scared the badger off. A couple years ago Ratchet scared off a coyote which brought the old westie-versus-badger story up again and my dad finished with "and that's why this size dog is the best" (while patting Ratchet)
Wait. What? Westies aren't that big.
After pointing that out, dad started to describe his "westie": About Ratchet's size (20"), terrier looking, with a soft scruffy slightly tan coat.
Yeah. It turns out he had wheaties growing up. One of his farm neighbours bred working line soft coated wheaten terriers.
