New roommates? 👀

So many little critters! Pichael and I are moving in with a friend and their cats and dog. It'll be a crash course on how to exist with cats (a thing neither pickle or I have done) so wish us luck!

#pinecone hasn't rehearsed any behaviours with cats beyond not harassing them outdoors and I am already mentally preparing myself for #all of the work involved for slow integrations #that being said #if anyone has any tips or suggestions I am all ears #I'm armed with different rooms #a baby gate #an ex-pen #and a dog who's been working on impulse control since she was a tiny fish #(a million snacks is a given) #the cats are varying degrees of dog savvy #pig is one of many dogs to infiltrate their home #I just don't have any experience with cats #anyways #big changes ✌ #(we are still on good terms and the terrier + gundog duo will still be hanging out) #ask

This 1000lb TV was abandoned at the dumpster and given a questionable makeover that now fits creatures inside.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Older TVs with CRT monitors can hold charges well after they are unplugged + the vacuum in the tube can cause an implosion (explosion of glass) if mishandled.

#it's a little small for pig but the new roomates are all smaller than her so we're good #I did not realize gutting an old tv had so many dangers but fortunately I researched it before tackling it #it isn't as nice as I was hoping but I'm short on time and can redo it later #turnpike #maybe one day I'll have a tag for projects

"In a historic “first-of-its-kind” agreement the government of British Colombia has acknowledged the aboriginal ownership of 200 islands off the west coast of Canada.

The owners are the Haida nation, and rather than the Canadian government giving something to a First Nation, the agreement admits that the “Xhaaidlagha Gwaayaai” or the “islands at the end of world,” always belonged to them, a subtle yet powerful difference in the wording of First Nations negotiating.

BC Premier David Eby called the treaty “long overdue” and once signed, will clear the way for half a million hectares (1.3 million acres) of land to be managed by the Haida.

Postal service, shipping lanes, school and community services, private property rights, and local government jurisdiction, will all be unaffected by the agreement, which will essentially outline that the Haida decide what to do with the 200 or so islands and islets.

“We could be facing each other in a courtroom, we could have been fighting each other for years and years, but we chose a different path,” said Minister of Indigenous Relations of BC, Murray Rankin at the signing ceremony, who added that it took creativity and courage to “create a better world for our children.”

Indeed, making the agreement outside the courts of the formal treaty process reflects a vastly different way of negotiating than has been the norm for Canada.

“This agreement won’t only raise all boats here on Haida Gwaii – increase opportunity and prosperity for the Haida people and for the whole community and for the whole province – but it will also be an example and another way for nations – not just in British Columbia, but right across Canada – to have their title recognized,” said Eby.

In other words, by deciding this outside court, Eby and the province of BC hope to set a new standard for how such land title agreements are struck."

First trial of the year was a success! Pichael had a blast gopher hunting and worming before scent detection. She ate approximately twelve million treats and got absolutely disgusting just in time to be pet by strangers <3

#we qualified 2/3 components (timed out) but I am super happy with this little creature <3 #I am not a good handler but she makes up for a lot of it #I was hoping for her open title this year but idk if there are anymore trials not 2+ hours away so we shall see #honestly it was worth it just to let her harass gophers she was Pumped #turnpike

On April 22, the Supreme Court is set to hear the case of Johnson v. Grants Pass, the most significant case in decades about homeless people’s rights. The case will determine whether cities can arrest or fine the homeless — even if there’s no other shelter. As the homeless plaintiffs wrote, this would be “punishing the city’s involuntarily homeless residents for their existence.”

The city of Grants Pass in Oregon wants to make being homeless a crime in order to drive the homeless into other areas. I am so tired.
