Question: What do these...
Tumblr media
have in common with...
Tumblr media
these?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Initially this was gonna be a simple topic on my mind to ramble about, but I guess with the latest words from a soft gaming executive hitting the community in 2024 I now have more of a need to talk about this than ever. It's funny how gaming over the past couple decades went from something rather simple and expressive to complicated and, admittedly, dull in some areas. Wait did I say funny, I meant "completely baffling" and the worst of it, imo anyways, comes from this pretty egregious push towards a digital only future we're seeing, with no consideration for physical media, storage space, possible alternative formats to use, or even us gamers wanting to actually possess and own our games. Yeah we live in an age where media is offered to us in such convenient ways, but with gaming it is a whole other beast entirely and as such it requires a different way of thinking in regards to convenience. Thinking that needs to address some of the issues I have with what's presented to us nowadays, starting with...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Video games back then were pretty small in comparison to the massively large scale stuff we've seen these past couple generations, with every gen growing further and further to reach this point. However with that came this rapid race to pushing out not just the biggest of games, but the most visually stunning games as well...sort of. While there have been plenty of games that went for gorgeous stylized looks and graphical effects there have been way more games that aimed for graphics so realistic and lifelike, it resulted in detailed effects and textures that likely took up a ton of file space. Listen, I don't mind if a game looks great, but if the game's high resolution graphics and such are why it ends up with anywhere over 100GB of data to store then clearly we have a problem. I get it, 4K and 8K resolutions are indeed a thing, but to be honest it is not that much of a necessity in the grand scheme.
The overwhelming file size isn't just cause of graphics either, lack of optimization is just as prevalent and boy does it show. Okay sure, devs have to work under a deadline, gotta get as much of those release day sales as possible, but if optimizing a game to scale down the file size and keep it looking good and performing smoothly is a hassle, then maybe something has to give in order to make it easier to manage. Ya gotta know what's best to prioritize if you want the gaming experience feel fun for the player and save space for more, ya know?
Tumblr media
Remember how simple storing game data was, where all you had to worry about was simply having a memory card was all you needed to keep your progress and you had the choice to buy or rent a game to pop in your system? That's what my question earlier was about, stuff like SD cards, flash drives, SSDs and HDDs all store data like the memory cards of old, however there is one difference: the latter mostly stored save data and occasionally DLC for some consoles, the former can fully store games.
After the 7th Generation there definitely was a push towards being able to play games digitally but imo it always felt sloppily done even to this day, unless you played on PC where everything had a designated file directory you could set up of course. For consoles sure you only had to buy an SD card or SSD for extra storage, but it didn’t practically feel like a requirement until games started taking up more and more space. Add onto that the save data, update patches and loads of DLC, and you're piling on more and more files to keep track of with every game you get. That hits even more when you realize that the you fill up more space buying digitally than physically, though nowadays that applies more to Nintendo Switch owners since Playstation and Xbox have treated physical copies like glorified installer discs since the 8th Generation.
Tumblr media
Speaking of installer discs I should probably talk about the physical side of gaming, since now there's more of a prevalent discussion amongst the gaming community going on. I've always wondered why out of all the Big 3 in gaming, it was Nintendo that kept it mostly right on what format to use for games and how to store it, especially now. They had cartridges down to a science from the NES to the N64 (the handheld scene was well done too), their disc based systems were touch and go with the Wii being their best one, and when it came to the Switch they didn't follow the trend at all and went "cartridges are fine enough for what we're doing," kudos. I say all this because, for the most part anyway, all of the base game that gets released on Switch is in the cartridge, leaving you extra room for DLC and some digital games that may not take as much space in your storage. That's something I appreciated way more than one would think, as it let me pick and choose what games were worth buying physically and what won't eat up my SD card space, something I feel is greatly missing elsewhere to be honest.
Granted I know cartridges are probably more expensive to manufacture but it's clear the gaming industry wants to shy away from DVD/Blu-Rays as the years go by, however I do wish there was some consideration for not just cartridges, but other physical ways to store games and reduce all the clutter. SD cards are as abundant as can be and come in various capacities, I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to make great use of that and solely store games and DLC in em (shoot Sony themselves toyed with SD card-sized cartridges with the Vita before, they could've tried that format again without the Vita's failures weighing em down). A single SSD could potentially store those 100s of gigabytes that one game had and they're just as readily available to produce too, imagine a system that contained a slot for you to plug one in that had the game ready to boot anytime and could store any extra content.
The options are right there and they'd be great logical next steps in how to sell physical copies of video games, or any media for that matter, but man it's crazy how unnoticed they've gone. I just wish it were given some thought and considered at least.
Tumblr media
I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would dare say that gamers need to feel comfortable not owning their games, that is perhaps the biggest slap in the face to anybody who picks up a controller old and new. For decades it was pretty much an unspoken agreement between the gaming industry and the gaming community that we buy their games and thus we owned em until we either traded it, gave it away or sold it simple as that, but nowadays (since this past decade even) the industry has gotten bold. Between scummy business practices, horrible business mindsets and finding any which way they can to screw people over, it's disrespecting to the very essence of why we play video games.
Now I'm not gonna trash the very notion of digital gaming as a whole, it's here to stay and has been for a long time, but I cannot and will not accept it being the only way we play games when having the options and balance of choosing between it and physical titles in a better format is a perfectly fine way to go whenever we wanna buy a game.
The more limitations and restrictions you place on gaming and the more shenanigans you cause the more likely people are to relent against the industry, and when people relent well...
Tumblr media
Hey, a service issue is a service issue is all I'm saying, there are definitely people out there who won't mind the high seas if push comes to shove.

I am ... Idk man. I'm pissed. I'm sad. I'm angry. So the Green Neon Tetras I got absolutely came down with ich and there was so much fucking conflicting information out there ... well it delayed me treating it. Heck I was trying to just be sure I was seeing what I was seeing at first.
Anyway I've lost 3. I think it might be 4 this morning. By tomorrow I suspect it'll be two more. If any manage to scrape through it'll be down to 4. If I'm lucky.
Everyone else (Corycats, Starlight Bristlenose) are fine. Though the Corycats show some signs of being itchy, nothing's become visible and they were on the tank the day I started treatment. Yeah I know, quarantine tank yadda yadda. But considering a 100ml bottle of medication costs 40 bucks and I need to use it for 14 days minimum at 4.5 mL a day - no way was I doing two tanks. It's likely I'm going to run out soon and money is tight since this decided to happen right around me replacing my HDD.
I cried when the first one died. Now I just feel ... numb. My mood has been awful, which isn't looking great for my very expensive rTMS treatment - I'm literally at halfway today. I should have seen results. Instead I'm bouncing between hating myself and angry at everything else because information is so diluted and despite researching this tank for over three months straight, trying so goddamn hard not to fuck up - I fucked up. I know I shouldn't blame myself, but a part of me deep down does. Because maybe I was too stupid to realise on such tiny fish the situation was only going to get worse faster. Then I'm angry I feel stupid because the information isn't clear, or that I feel stupid for crying over a fish because that's what normal people think. I hate how everything is really affordable but then medicines are so prohibitive it'd be more cost effective to let them all fucking die. I hate how people regard fish as objects, decorations for their goddamn bathroom or some kind of 'investment' for rarer varieties, swimming in sterile tanks like their a goddamn floating gold bar - not a life. A living, breathing, thinking little life. That I let down. So yeah I'll fucking cry because no one else will.
This tank was supposed to be a source of relief while I went through this intense treatment but now it's just a trigger for me ruminating over and over. I worry with the tetra population so depleted it's going to cause them more stress making them more likely to die. I'm scared to do water changes, though I need to keep doing them.
I'm angry this parasite is so common it's considered to be encountered by anyone new to the hobby within 6 months, because it takes no prisoners - any kind of fish can get it. I'm angry research only revealed the possibility of a vaccine a few years ago, despite fish being the most owned pet globally. I'm angry the reputable, best aquarium shop in my entire city had tetra carrying this and there's jack shit I can do. I don't know whether to tell them or not even bother. Given the entire shop runs on what I suspect are the same sumps, it's likely everything has the risk.
Maybe I'm just stupid and this is all my fault.
I'll keep trying. I'll buy another 40 dollar bottle and treat them for the 14 days and aone more week just in case. I put too much work into this to give up.

JESSIE'S 2024 ROADMAP
So, I just wanted to ramble about the projects I have planned out for 2024. I've been very ambitious about some due to being able to afford to invest in them. Of course, art will forever be my #1 ambition and will continue to improve my craft. I'm always finding new ways to improve and exploring new ideas. However; I do have various non-digital art related! And I want to tell you all on my own personal blog about them and what you can look forward from me in the future!
MUSIC PROJECTS
I've actually been taking my time to figure out how FL Studios work, and how to work with it with Audacity. I've been attempting at voice training, so once I'm satisfied with my voice, I'd really love to do lyrics. I'm planning on working out something special for the first quarter of 2024. An EP called "Hear my Voice! (Existence)". I want it to be focused on the progress of HRT and Voice Training and just the idea of artistic freedom and the great feeling it is to be able to create things the way I want after being so long unable to. I don't know, 3 songs sound good for an EP. I want to be crafty and creative with them. I'd love for it to be Lo-Fi Pop Punk. As in, actual Lo-Fi, not the Synthwave kind of Lo-Fi. I want it to be the classic lower quality and lower frequency sounding music. I have a grudging respect for Lo-Fi and what it can represent, so I want to have my own take on it. The other project would be a proper album for once I get the hang of it all. I plan to call it "Celestial Wishes". I so far only have the plans for it to be Pop Punk and be very angelic sounding. I want it to be like heaven answering my wishes to finally do music. Obviously I won't sing about that-! I want it to carry the story of Ponies living life and miracles happening in various ways. How many songs ? God knows! It's only an idea thus far, and will take shape later. Right now I want to focus on making a couple of singles, maybe having one done in December still even. That and focusing on the overall theming and style I want for "Hear my Voice! (Existence)". I'll post all of these on a new Youtube Channel I've created, StardustJessie Music! Subscribe for when I start posting some!
YOUTUBE VIDEOS
I don't know how aware you are, but I do have a Youtube Channel. I primarily post Video Game Analysis Essays. I'm extremely proud of the ones I made this year, those being Deus Ex 2 and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Well, I have two more videos planned out! The first, POKEMON SUN & MOON ARE GREAT AND HERE'S WHY; Which I'm very ambitious and passionate about this idea. Everyone was very quick to defend Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon didn't get that same treatment. I want to be one to defend Sun & Moon, which I have a lot of argument for, and have a lot to say about its history and the state of pokemon in that age. I actually really hated S&M when I first played it and deeply regretted buying Ultra Sun (Which I still do.), so it's almost like a redemption arc for me! I'll have to gather up a shitload of footage though. Pokemon Red, Silver, Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond, Black, X, Alpha Sapphire, Red Team Rescue, Explorers of Sky, Gates to Infinity, Super Mystery Dungeon, Sword, Violet, Rescue Team DX, Sun, Ultra Sun, and more! These are just the pokemon games I'll have to record! Not to count other games I bring up as a precedent and examples like Persona 4 which is some 60 hours of gameplay! So yeah. It's a lengthy project. Thankfully I'm purchasing a 4TB HDD this week so I should be able to gather that much footage without a worry. I imagine I'll only have this done in a year or even 2025! It's a tough project. However; I want to also work on another video! MORROWIND WALKED SO SKYRIM COULD RUN (AWAY WITH MY MONEY); I really despite Skyrim for a lot of reasons. But I really love Morrowind. A lot of the things I see people praise Skyrim are things I genuinely believe they'd have a better time and enjoyment of those aspects if they played Skyrim. I believe I can actually get this video done in 2024 as these games are waaaaaaaaaaaay shorter than all the shit I have to play for a Pokemon project! But even then, Skyrim would be some 30 hours and Morrowind some 15, not to mention any other games I talk about. It's a great topic to analyse and I'll be very ambitious. I should get to write it sometime and have a W.I.P project in mid 2024 so it'll be my annual essay.
BOOK PROJECTS
I'm very interested in writing my own book honestly. Ever since I read Dracula I've considered writing a story that touches on similar themes and ideas and can evolve them further through the lens of 2024. I'm slowly taking shots at it. Sometimes I write a sentence or two. As any Tumblr Writer knows, it's very tough. Be on the look out! Once I have anything concrete I'll definitely post!
I believe this would be it! I don't have many individual projects, but they are ambitious and time consuming projects that I want to have done next year or have something substantial to show in 2024! There are more projects, like my Game Project which I'm very passionate about and have 74 pages of documentation of and still working on it! Since it's on very early planning stage I rather not talk too much. But maybe 2025 roadmap ? Thank you for reading this if you have at all! I just want somewhere to put all my ideas. Who knows. It'll be interesting in 2034 to look back to 22 year old me being so ambitious, while 32 year old me has those ambitions fully realised and onto new projects. This is almost like an archival of my personal artistic ambition and my passion for the crafts of Writing, Visual Arts and Music.

how to pirate shows and movies: a dumb bitch’s guide
I've been getting some notes on this post about how to pirate shows & movies, so I figured I’d make a better, text reader-friendly version.
Tumblr media
drink up me hearties yo ho
ye olde megacorporations got ye down? want to see the yoda baby without havin’ ta sell yer soul to The Mouse? i got space for ya on deck. join me hardwerkin’ crew, and we’ll sail the seas of entertainment, free from the ir’n fetters of brand loyalty!
Welcome to my pirating tutorial! You should be able to follow this if you have basic computer knowledge. Fair warning, I’m not an expert on anything, but in fact, a dumb bitch.
1. Buy a VPN service. VPNs basically temporarily change your IP address. You need a VPN so you don’t get cease and desist letters from your internet provider. Idk actually what happens if you don’t “cease and desist” but probably better not to find out. There are free ones out there, but they’re all shady. I paid for 16 months of Express VPN for like a hundred something.
2. Buy an external hard drive. Unless you’re planning on keeping only what you’re currently or soon to be watching on your hard drive, you need more space because video files are big. I bought a 5 TB external hard drive for a hundred something and named her Big Terra. That’s hopefully more space than I’ll ever need.
2a. Quick word on external hard drives. They come in HDDs (hard disc drives) and SDDs (soft disk drives). HDDs have little spinning disks in them and it makes them way easier to break, so if it’s knocked off a table while it’s running it’ll probably be toast. SSDs are way more stable and usually slimmer, and dropping them isn’t a death sentence, so they’re better. BUT HDDs can hold more shite, and for some reason SSDs skyrocketed in price in January 2020, and they were more expensive to begin with. Big Terra is an HDD and I just have to be very careful with her.
3. Download a torrent client. A torrent client is a program that can open and use torrent files, I guess?? The one I downloaded was qBittorrent.
3a. Megan, what’s a torrent? I barely know lol. Torrents let you download files faster, because other people have pieces of that file and they’re sharing them on the torrent client -- that’s called “seeding.”
3b. Why do torrents exist? Can’t we just download MP4 files of movies and shows? Yeah, but 1) it’s a lot slower and 2) most sites that host those files (aside from being saturated with malware porn ads) get taken down by the Internet Police.
3c. Why are sites that host torrent files not taken down by Internet Police? Idk. Maybe I’ll get back to you.
4. Find the stuff! PirateBay is the most popular and the only one I’ve tried to use, but there are other sites like it. Not everything you look for will be on there. IDK how to host torrents yet but maybe I’ll pay it forward when I learn how and host files on Pirate Bay or something.
5. Is this morally bad? Fam I love a good analysis. I majored in English. Maybe I’ll write a paper analyzing this question. The short answer is not really. Like refilling your cup with soda when you paid for water at McDonald’s. It’s not honest and maybe don’t do it because people will look at you weird, but you’re costing some rich asshole like .00007 cents so don’t worry about confessing it to your priest.
6. What is the long answer? I told you I’m not an expert. The money you spend buying DVDs doesn’t go to any of the actors or people who created the movie/show, it goes to the distribution company. And money you spend on a streaming service goes to the streaming service, who then decides how much they want to pay a distribution company for the rights to their movie/show, and same with cable TV. [I’m actually just assuming by the way, that this is how the flow of money works. Someone fact check me, but this is logically probably how it works.] The distribution company is who pays for all of the hard workers who make shows and movies. So logically the distribution company needs to make a shitton of money in order to support these projects. That’s where your money comes in, and it jumps through lots of hoops and eventually makes it to the distribution company. However distribution companies are giant corporations and they do much, much, much better than just break even. They make a shitton of profit that ends up in some billionaire asshole’s pocket. That’s the person you deprive of money.
7. But Megan, that’s how all capitalism works! Sure is.
8. But Megan, if we don’t line the pockets of rich assholes who own streaming services who in turn line the pockets of rich assholes who own distribution companies, how will those companies be motivated to make movies and shows? That’s capitalism, baby. Movie profits are complicated but a big portion of it comes from the box office/movie theaters and merchandising. And I’m a bitch that loves a movie theater. I collect the ticket stubs. Go to the movie theater sometimes to support the rich assholes who support hard-working cast & crew of a film. Shows are a different animal and I don’t really know shit about how their profits are made, except it’s probably mainly advertising, streaming rights, and merchandising. In that case, since you’re not paying for ads or a streaming service, line the pockets of the rich assholes who support the show by buying merchandise.
9. But Megan, aren’t you just making excuses? I mean maybe. I never claimed to be a genius or perfect. But honestly torrenting isn’t that different from a public library - someone originally has the files, and people are sharing them with each other and no one is making money. We’re all out here trying to live and make ourselves happy by watching some cool shows. If you’re worried about the moral quandary of not paying for this stuff, make it a point to support local artists and independent filmmakers, because those are the real people who aren’t making any money.
Thanks for reading! Good luck on your pirating journey!

Jim’s Best Friend
Part Nine - Stamford Bound
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2066
Author’s Note: I decided that Jim and Y/N need a tradition. So, have a nice little chapter with fabricated backstory!
WARNING: none.
April, 2006.
"Am I proud of myself?" Jim repeated the question, a smile erupting onto his face. "Honestly, kinda. Nice knowing I made Patrick and Y/N happen, and even though it's only been two months... I feel good about it." He looked to the producer.
"Oh... You meant about the whole Stamford thing..." Jim's face fell. "I, uh, yeah... It's a step up isn't it? Not like I have reason to stay here anyway."
Ever since January, Jim had been doing whatever he could to forget about his feelings for Pam: he booked a trip to Australia, he interviewed for the Stamford job, he had even gone out on a few double dates with you and Patrick. But, seeing both of his best friends so happy with their relationships and jobs, he couldn't help but feel left out of the loop. He had even complained to HR about Pam planning her wedding in the office, though the two patched things up quite quickly.
Both you and Pam had been in full blown wedding mode, and as her in-office bridesmaid, she asked at the end of February, you were helping with Save the Dates, dress colours, flower arrangements, everything. And you enjoyed it, being swept up in the whirlwind of love that filled the air.
You and Patrick had been dating as official boyfriend and girlfriend for about a month and a half, and you couldn't remember a relationship that made you happier. You even moved The Notebook from your handbag into a drawer in your apartment, since you were fully commited to an exclusive relationship now. Poker at Jim's was the best thing that had happened to you in a while, and the whole office knew it.
You were even more bubbly than the bride-to-be, managing to keep a smile on your face through all of Dwight's bullshit, and you were making more sales than ever before. And despite you and Patrick deciding to take things slow, more for your sake than anything, the bi-weekly date nights had added colour and purpose into life again. You hadn't felt so good in a relationship, and in general, for years.
As you finished up on another big sale, an email pinged up on your screen from Jim. You glanced over, but he was pretending to be busy so that Dwight wouldn't bother him, and you instead focused on the email.
Do you think I could talk to you before the casino tomorrow? In private? Need your advice on something. - J xx
You pulled out your keyboard and quickly began typing back, sending the message over quickly before your phone rang again. Jim opened the reply email as soon as he received it, scanning over the computer screen.
Of course, why don't we go to the park after work? Just us two. Get hot dogs for dinner, my treat? - Y/N/N xx
Jim smiled at the message, trying to remember the last time you had both gone for a Hot Dog Date, or HDD. It would have had to be before you went to Spain the year before. It first occurred the year Jim arrived at the office, you had only been in sales for a few months yourself, promoted from the warehouse. It was a Friday, and you were complaining about having to go shopping straight after work. Pam was taking a sick day, and Jim offered to buy you dinner. It wasn't a date or anything, and when you both decided that hot dogs couldn't be topped, a tradition begun.
Anytime either of you were too stressed or tired or simply needing a chat, a HDD took place. A walk in the nearby park, followed by Hank's Hotdogs on your favourite park bench overlooking the pond, and then the pair of you just talked. For hours. The only way you left that bench was when the rain came down too hard for your umbrella to bear, or the night enveloped you in a cold that threatened catching the flu. That first time, Jim told you about college, about feeling stuck at Dunder Mifflin, about not knowing what to do with his life, and you shared the real reasons you never ended up in college: how you started working full time in the warehouse when your mom got sick, how Michael took you under his wing and got you into the sales position.
A thousand times yes.
He responded, and the pair of you got back to work, only stopping for coffee breaks with Pam and another one of Michael's meetings.
"So..." Jim started as you sat down beside him on your bench, handing him a hot dog and setting down two cans of soda on the bench between you. "How's Patrick?" He asked, and you sat back.
"Not a chance, Halpert. You called for the HDD, you share first. Them's the rules." You said, biting into your hotdog with enthusiasm. You had been eating healthy with Patrick, and as much as you loved the whole 'eat good, feel good' thing, you missed junk food. He sighed, and looked out at the pond, his eyes following the ducks that swam around for a few minutes, chewing on his hot dog as he thought. You stayed quiet, letting him think through it all, he usually did this. Sometimes, it would be twenty minutes before either of you spoke, but the silence was warm and relaxed. There was no expectation.
"I think I'm going to transfer to the Stamford branch." Jim said finally, and you looked over at him. Before you could ask, he continued. "There's an opening for Assistant Regional Manager, the money's better... It's only a few hours drive away. And I already interviewed..."
"So the other day, when you were at a doctor's appointment..." You trailed off, and Jim nodded.
"Dwight gave me the idea, if you could believe it... And I need to go somewhere new Y/N. It's not like I'll move up in Scranton... Not like I'll move on." He sighed out, and took the last bite of his hot dog, washing it down with some grape soda.
"I..." You stopped, taking a sip of your own beverage. "I get it. And while Michael's speech on the boat was motivational, it wasn't exactly realistic." You shrugged, leaning forward on your knees. "Pam loves you, but Roy is her fiancé. She loves him more."
"You... You heard what Michael said?" Jim asked, and you looked over with a smile.
"Yeah... Came looking for him, found you both deep in the throws of success speeches." You giggled, and Jim smiled back a little. "Can't believe he thought we would get together." You added, and Jim nodded.
"Could you imagine? The anarchy would be neverending." He chuckled, and you were glad you could cheer him up a little. It was shit, being in a situation where no-one was wrong. Roy was good to Pam, Pam was a wonderful woman, and Jim couldn't help being in love with her. He sat up straight, and stood up, offering you a hand to get up. You took it, rising to your feet and looking up at him with a raised eyebrow. "So, what about you?" Jim asked, the pair of you beginning a stroll around the pond, the lamps overhead slowly turning on as the sun set, painting the rolling clouds in colour.
"I think I'm in love." You said decidedly, and Jim stopped in place.
"Really?" He asked, his eyes lighting up with joy, and you let out a soft laugh.
"Oh, it's too early to say anything but... I don't know, Patrick has agreed to take things slower than he's used to, and he just... He makes me happy?" You went pink. To think that only months ago, you were still with Brian. Jim pulled you into a hug, picking you up and spinning you round. You squeaked in response, the pair of you sharing a laugh as he put you down.
"You deserve it, Y/N. I expect to be you maid of honour." He teased you a litte, and you elbowed his side playfully.
"Don't get too ahead of yourself. I just, I'd like it to last." you shrugged, continuing to walk.
"I'm glad he's over Jennifer." Jim made the offhand comment after a few minutes of strolling, and you glanced over.
"Jennifer as in Jennifer Young?" You asked, and Jim nodded, frowning when you did.
"What's up?"
"He's out with her tonight... Some other friends from work too, of course. I just didn't realise she was the ex girlfriend." You said slowly. Patrick had talked about her an awful lot during the last two months, but you just thought she was a friend to him like Jim was to you.
"Oh, I wouldn't worry about it Y/N. They ended in January, amicably. Maybe they just lost the romantic spark, cut it off?" Jim suggested, and you nodded in agreement. There was never any point in overthinking friendships, it would only make you feel worse.
"You're right... Oh! I'm bringing him along to the casino night tomorrow, he can finally meet the office. Meet Pam!" You said with a smile, slowing down as you spotted an ice cream shop across the street. "Do you want ice cream?" You asked suddenly, and Jim grinned, throwing an arm over your shoulder.
"You are adorable." Jim said, and you looked up at him, still waiting for an answer. "Yes, of course I want ice cream." He rolled his eyes, and you exited the park together, crossing the street and walking up to the store counter.
"You know, there's rumours going around about Dunder Mifflin going international..." You said after ordering a strawberry ice cream and sprinkle cone. "Overheard Jan talking about it on the phone at the Women in the Workplace meeting."
"Where would the office be based?" Jim asked, getting two scoops of cookie dough flavour in a cup. You paid and walked back towards the park, Jim digging into his dessert by your side.
"Either Madrid or Vienna... I thought I would talk to her next time I see her, see if it's still happening. I don't know now though, since Rick and I..." You said, licking the ice cream slowly. The idea of Jim leaving suggested that maybe you should try something new too. You had been at the Scranton branch three years more than he had.
"They could use you! Your Spanish is... Well, I don't know Spanish, so I can't be sure, but I bet your Spanish is great." Jim encouraged it, and you smiled, letting out a breath. The pair of you slowed down, walking along the rickety wooden dock and taking a seat at the end, the half moon shining down onto the midnight blue water.
"Is this it then?" You asked, looking up, taking another lick of your ice cream, catching a drip before it hit your hand. "The end of an era? The three musketeers, no more." You said, and Jim shook his head.
"Not a chance... But, maybe... Maybe it's the mid season break? A chance for all of us to take a breather, reunite for the thrilling finale, end with a bang." He said with a grin.
"There's nothing thrilling about office work, Halpert." You reminded him with a giggle.
"On the contrary, Y/L/N. Because, while my time left at Scranton may be short, I can say with complete honesty." He stopped, taking your free hand in a gesture of faux affection. "For a day to be thrilling at the office, there simply has to be you and I... And Dwight so we can slowly torture him to insanity." He smirked, and you burst into laughter. Once it died down, you and Jim fell into that comfortable silence once more, finishing your ice creams.
The walk to his car was short, the car ride home quick, and you gave his hand a squeeze as you got out in front of your apartment.
"I do not know what in the world I would do without you, Jim." You said honestly, a smile on your face. "So if you leave, I have to get at least one email a day."
"No matter how many times you make me watch it, Y/N, I will never, ever be Ryan Gosling." Jim pouted, and you rolled your eyes.
"Night, Jim."
"Night, Y/N."

Ok notebook update. Things are fucking weird in Window's world. I swear i should have stayed with Linux 20 years ago when things were not this bad.
My profile was fucked up after the latest Win10 update (which is from last year). There was literally nothing there, just some programs but not all and certainly all of my setups were gone. I rebooted in "safe mode" (embarrassing I know), and my profile was there for some reason??? As if nothing happened. I moved my files to an empty Hdd and left it like that. Didnt want to touch it. I rebooted today without safe mode, knowing that there was nothing there under "regular" windows and already knowing that I had to work a lot and do some tests in order for it to work. Alas! I reboot and my profile is working again? Who understands this shit? I don't even want to.
Anyway!!! I know I'm going to have to reinstall Windows. I don't trust it one bit. The hard drive is fine but yeah I don't like what's happening. So yeah. My stuff is there... my notebook is there.
I think I'm going to give it a while and (finally) buy an SDD and maybe reinstall it then (I dont wanna reinstall this shit twice). They are super expensive but if I'm going to touch this notebook it'd better be for a good reason. I'm scared cause I never opened one before lol. I fucking hate hardware shit. I hate it more the I hate cables.

Intel's Optane SSD 800p is fast, expensive, and too small
Last year, Intel brought out the first of what will eventually be many products based on the jointly developed (with Micron) 3D XPoint Technology. For enterprise solutions, the extreme durability and performance are impressive, and in the future Intel hopes to bring 3D XPoint into server memory products—as in, actual DIMMs that fit into the server's traditional DRAM slots. Outside of the enterprise market, however, 3D XPoint has so far been a tough sell. I came away extremely impressed by the performance of Intel's Optane 900p, for example, but the cost and capacity are such that I can't in good conscience recommend such a drive for most users—particularly for gamers, what with games like FFXV sucking down nearly 150GB in one gigantic gulp. If you're running programs that need lots of fast storage, great, and in ten years this is probably what 'average' storage solutions will look like, but right now it's bleeding edge tech. Before the 900p was Optane Memory, a storage caching solution that works, but ends up with the same drawbacks of all caching solutions: it doesn't really help the first time you do something, and if your commonly used data is too big for the cache, performance can suffer.
Intel is adding to the above consumer Optane solutions with today's 800p launch, which looks a lot like the Optane Memory parts but functions more like the 900p. The 800p comes in two capacities, 58GB or 118GB, both in M.2 format. Where things take a turn for the strange is the PCIe x2 interface—it's almost like Intel looked at the performance and thought it was too close to the 900p. Except the price and capacity is such that it should be similar in performance. From my perspective, the 118GB 800p is a bit less than half the storage of the 280GB 900p, and it costs slightly more than half as much, which means it's not a particularly good value. The 58GB model takes things a step further, since it's a bit less than half the capacity of the 118GB model but costs a bit more than half as much. Ugh. Wait, only 58GB and 118GB—what's up with those capacities, especially the 58GB model? With Windows 10, I shudder to even think about trying to install the OS and a few primary apps and keep things running smoothly without having to constantly monitor available drive space. Even 118GB is dangerously small for a lot of people. Now toss in the pricing, and the 800p ends up in this weird market niche that I'm not sure who would buy it. You can get about four times the capacity (slightly more) for roughly the same price with Intel's 760p SSDs. The people that need fast storage also tend to need more fast storage, and 58GB or 118GB just isn't going to cut it. If you don't need ultra-fast storage, which is most of us, then just about any modern SSD will suffice. Intel makes a point about how the 800p delivers great performance where most client workloads run—at queue depths of 1-2, not 16 or 32—and it's absolutely correct that focusing on performance for low queue depths is important. The thing is, most workloads occur at low queue depths because the workload isn't storage limited in the first place. One of the most common tasks you might perform that hits storage hard is to copy files from a drive onto the same drive, which requires sustained read and write throughput. As we'll see in the benchmarks, the 800p does great in this test, but how often are you going to be making copies of large amounts of data, especially on a 58GB drive? For the performance testing, along with the 800p models, I've highlighted the Samsung 860 Evo 500GB—a good SATA SSD. Another drive you'll want to pay attention to is Adata's SX7000NP, which holds the distinction of being the cheapest 512GB-class NVMe SSD. Depending on the workload, the 800p can range from dead last (pure sequential read/write performance) to top of the charts. In general, it feels plenty fast, and if you can live with the limited capacity you'll likely never notice the slight reduction in maximum throughput.
The problem is that, as I've pointed out before, pure SSD performance isn't the holy grail—storage performance in general is only a problem when it's far too slow. Hard drives definitely fall into that classification for me, now that I've been using SSDs as my boot/OS drive for several years, but going from even one of the slower SSDs to the fastest SSD isn't all that noticeable. Price per GB ends up being a far bigger factor than raw performance, particularly if you're thinking about storing more than one or two games on an SSD. My SSD benchmark suite consists of a mix of theoretical and real-world metrics. Other tests are also run both to condition the drive and to ensure there are no oddities, but for the charts I focus on CrystalDiskMark, IOMeter (mixed read/write performance), file copying, and PCMark 8 Storage. I take the results (in MB/s) from ten of the tests and give each equal weighting (ie, geometric mean) to come up with the aggregate score. While it's impossible for a single number to tell you everything you need to know about an SSD, it provides a good high-level view of what to expect.

In terms of performance, Intel's 800p drives deliver the goods. They're nearly as fast as the best NAND-based SSDs, and not all that far behind even the 900p. They even beat Samsung's 960 Evo, which means they're also faster than nearly all other SSDs. Sequential performance is one of the weak points, most likely thanks to the decision to keep the interface at x2 instead of x4. Low queue depth random IO on the other hand is excellent, even beating the 900p for read speeds. Also worth noting is that there's very little practical difference in performance between the 58GB and 118GB models—3D XPoint appears to hit full performance even with just a few chips on the package. Subjectively, the only time I notice a difference between most of the drives is if I'm specifically running storage benchmarks ("Look, bigger numbers!"), or if I'm copying lots of files to or from the SSDs—or perhaps verifying files for a Steam game. I can totally get behind the idea of screamingly fast 3D XPoint storage for servers running dozens of VMs or a large transactional database, or for HPC stuff with large data sets that won't fit into RAM. For consumer workloads, it's more difficult to find a good mission statement, and the capacity and price are a major hangup. Intel's high performance NVMe SSDs have traditionally occupied the lower tiers of our value-oriented charts. The SSD 750 line was the fastest drive around several years back, with a price to match, and the new 900p crossed back over the $1 per GB line. The 800p ends up being a bit slower, with an even higher price per GB—over $2 per GB on the 58GB drive—and end up well below the next closest NVMe drives.
Too little, in too many ways
I get the idea that most users don't really need massive SSDs, but by the same token most users won't really see a major difference between varying levels of SSD either. If you look at the PCMark 8 Storage score—not the raw bandwidth value—you'll see that the gap between the fastest and slowest SSD I've included is just over two percent. We can argue about whether or not that properly represents the difference you'd see between the drives (the bandwidth score shows a 285 percent gap), but if you're timing how long it takes to launch a game, or boot Windows, we've clearly hit the point of diminishing returns. I can see businesses maybe taking a stab at the 118GB 800p, because that's certainly enough storage capacity for a typical office computer, but the $200 price tag is going to be harder to justify. Yes, it's faster than some other drives, but for about the same price you can get the 512GB Intel 760p, or the 500GB Samsung 960 Evo. I would much rather sacrifice a bit of performance for quadruple the capacity, even if half of it doesn't get used. The 58GB model on the other hand is right out—Windows 10 on it's own loves to use about that much between the main OS and the rollback files for the previous build. That's a headache waiting to happen. Something else that's a bit odd is that Intel has intentionally bifurcated Optane into arguably too many paths. Enterprise and consumer is a sensible market split. High-end consumer SSD and Optane Memory caching technology is a bit more specious. High-end 900p and still-high-end 800p only with lower capacities and a PCIe x2 limitation? Yeah, sorry, but no. I wish Intel validated the caching software for use with the larger 800p drives (and even the 900p), because with a 118GB fast SSD cache people could potentially pair it with a large 8TB HDD and then let the caching algorithms worry about what data is actually being used on a regular basis. Start playing a lot of PUBG, and it ends up in the cache. Likewise for Vermintide 2 and maybe one or two other games—plus the core Windows files, your browser code, and a few other tidbits. Then if you stop playing other games and binge on FFXV for a few weeks, your PC could automatically adapt to your usage patterns. It might not be perfect, but it's at least something. Unfortunately, Optane Memory and Optane 800p are mutually exclusive technologies (even though they're basically the same core hardware). If you feel the need for speed, the Optane 900p is already there—ironically still with a lower price per GB. If you're after more bang for the buck, Intel has you covered with the 760p line as well, or you can grab any number of other non-Intel drives. I still think 3D XPoint is going to have a big impact on future storage trends, but right now it's not price competitive. Performance is great, but capacity and price still matter, and that's where the 800p comes up short.

How to make an inexpensive, initial home studio setup
TToday, most kids have been using their laptop speakers, expensive fashion headphones or straight garbage ones to mix their stuff. They might solve the problem on not being able to hear your stuff properly but eventually you’ll need to kick it up a notch if you want to get your music praised by friends, peers and strangers alike. Let’s try setting your studio to less than $750 USD (maybe less than 500). It’s not really about the money but to put your ideas into sound tracks in a quick and seamless way. You don’t need to buy all in one go but it certainly lowers a lot of the costs. If you’re used to work with MacOS then build yourself a “makeshift-MAC”, you’ll be able to work with ease with a quarter of the price. 1.- Base Computer First, dont go saying that you’re gonna produce music on your PC, they’ll try to sell you the most expensive stuff right away (I’ve seen peers snatching gaming laptops right away failing to see the whole panorama and not getting everything they need) Start by this setup, it will net you a nice quad-core processor, with 8GB RAM, dual storage (SSD for the system and HDD for tracks/samples/stuff) plus it has a decent gFX card to play some games from time to time: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/B2wCqk What about laptops? Laptops have A LOT of latency so they’re not really recommended to record anything unless you have a extremely good soundcard.
2.- Audio Appliances Your sound source should come from at least two or three sources. I know you’re pointing to some KRKs or some Yamahas HS series to mix but reading Marc Mozart’s “Your Mix Sucks” i’ve figured out that the best thing out there won’t really do. To give your mix a realistic spin, i suggest snatching a set of old speakers and some mixing headphones. Speakers. - Tivoli Audio: Expensive ass Hipster Kitchen Radio, if you’re willing to spend cash on a “mom’s radio” then snatch a clone (these are always floating around the web or in retail stores) -  Auratone Clones: Yeah, you could buy one OR make your own (which is the longest route you could pick to get one). Behritones are cute. - Old Hi-Fi stereo sound sets: Check flea markets, online sites and some other places, you might be surprised on what you can find. Avoid Speakers with the “BASS BOOST”, “SUPER BASS”, “EXTRA BASS” tags, or anything “Ghetto Blaster” kind of type. You should recognize for the big ass label placed into most of them. It should be under $50 getting one of those. Headphones - AKG K44: Not pricey and under $50 Pros: Great price, compfy, clear sounding. Cons: You won’t be getting much more of them - Sennheiser HD180: Less pricey than the K44 Pros: Cheap and tasty, available EVERYWHERE Cons: Borderline “Consumer product”-”Mixing headphones” - TAKSTAR HD2000: Basically some Beyerdynamic DT880 with like a 1/5th of the price. My personal choice. Pros: Built-in acoustic shell, better design, long cable, gold plated plugs. Cons: Not available easlily, can be ordered from China though. Avoid headphones from: BOSE (Expensive dungs), Beats/Skullcandy/Plantronics (we all know where those go), any pair under a dollar (seriously, no), Koss (good soudning but too consumer oriented. i reccomend it for a “third opinion” pair) Divide your mixing time between those two into: Kitchen Radio 60%, Headphones 40%. If you have a third source that is better than the mixing headphones, then take 10% from the headphones, if not then take 20% from kitchen radio.
Sound Card: - Internal Sound Cards: These are hit or miss, but Creative can make some good stuff now and then. - Focusrite 2i2: Does the job, low latency but it breaks easily. Buy only if you’re gonna use it at home. The studio kit doesn’t really solve the microphone and headphone issue tho. - PreSonus AudioBox: Not as good as the Focusrite 2i2 but the studio kit compensates for it. Now my weapon of choice it’s the TASCAM US600 Mk.I. It’s the same price as the Focusrite 2i2 but with 6 inputs and 4 outputs, so it’s great for getting in all my audio setup and even has a spare headphone pair to listen to the stuff with a friend/client, it has much less latency but the aren’t as available as they were a couple years ago. The Mark II has a bit more latency and the fabrication materials aren’t as good as the Mk.I. I’ll get later into isolation details. That’s a whole other box of apples. For now, go snatch yourself a studio.
