Tsuna Sawada will always be a loser and even towards the end of the manga he still is one and I will always love him for not changing. Face it all those reunion fics I used to read back in the day really be enjoying giving every person who bullied or were mean to him give everyone face slaps as if i'm reading a chinese revenge dogblood danmei novel lol. This is pre-2017 I belive when I binged a lot of fics in the previous years of that particular KHR era lol. So take it in mind my knowledge was from back then.
Hell this shit is even applied to his parents especially Nana like maybe I can go more indepth if I have time in another post but like this women certainly loves her child. I know the infamous chapter really got me heated not gonna lie I don't think the way she treats her kid is fine but damn sometimes I feel she be villainzed too much. From the way I see their relationship it's one of love but I don't think Tsuna could rely on his mom when it comes to emotions and feelings hell he avoid it together it's kinda why he was a little shit if I remember correctly in the beginning of the manga but what 13 year old isn't. Like their relationship is more she wants her child to be like his manly father and hopes he can grow out of his ugly ducking dame tsuna phase but he can't because it's more than that the dude whole school normalizes calling him dame tsuna instead of his actual birth name and the way the faculty treat him and his peers who go back and forth in their treatment of him if he surpasss their expectations they acknowledge him if he doesn't he goes back to being just lame old tsuna. So tsuna gives right up at the start then even try because he's afraid at the attempt he'll just fail. Iemitsu I get 100% because he prioritzes work over family and expects his son to be like his mother and be fine he shows up out of nowhere. I'd be pissed too. Ironic he's the 1 shounen protagnsit with 2 parents that just aren't that great as role models or when it comes to teaching him but they do love him certainly. It's why when it comes to the basis of how their characters are written yes there are defintlly problametic things going on because of how dysfuncitional they are as a family but they do love each other so I really dislike it a lot back in the past since a lot of the times writers really try to up and take it to a 100 to make both of them more hurtful or cruel in fics than they are in canon just to really give them faceslaps X double. And the result is Tsuna being a depressed sucidal kid to really get it and the fic writer just blackening the parents even more lol. Like please a little nuance would be appreatied in their family dynamic would be nice.
Tsuna no matter what anyone says is a strong kid. He really doesn't get bothered like I don't recall him talking shit about the students in his school who bully him like yamamato and him are straight parells in their treatment because I'm damn sure yamamato has to be aware of others treatment of Tsuna because it's a refelection of how he could end up if he becomes a failure too. One tries their hardest to be the best and tries to jump because he can't handle it no more. But Tsuna the other isn't even bother by his mistreatment wtf he's just Tsuna he's normalized it but he isn't a sucidal depressed mess he's just accepts he can't do it and says welp whatever and he's fine. My boi is strong.
I know some can't accept how the ending is. But, You're reading KHR so many weird things are in the manga that make 0 logical sense and I just go through with the motions accepting it. A baby for a tutor, oh Mukuro went through literal hell, oh what do you mean fucking time travel is involved. You really expect me to care that much how the ending went lol. KHR is a legit a parody telling of a shonen manga, which evolved into a real shonen later on.
I get the appeal but Tsuna is Tsuna. I think he's a normal boy who doesn't fit the shounen mold and himnot fiting the package kinda fit the bill because he doesn't suit the audience fantasy on how they want their MC's to be. They want him to be a Naruto how everyone who hurt him apologize or acknwledge his awesomeness but nah Akira Amano really just sticked to this dude core character from start to finish. Tsuna grew when it comes to areas he lacked but he never changed about his personhood because that sorta what makes him define the story. Tsuna being himself got him allies and people who rely and look towards him and what made Reborn impressed with his student. He defines the genre he's like is a Deku from BNHA reversed when it comes to their development.

Hey girl! Just wanted to say I really love your fics! I also also really liked that Bonkai oneshot you wrote set before Kai revealed himself to Bonnie and Damon.
Hey Anon!
Thanks for showing me some love here! Glad you enjoyed my little one-shot. You can thank @scorpio-karma for that one-shot and literally providing me with all the information I have about Bonkai. Because she's an amazing individual she also very frequently brainstorms things with me when I am working on and developing fics. I actually had a couple of Bonkai ones in the works but I chickened out about posting them at the last minute. I did a few drafts but none felt quite right. But who knows, I may get out of my head and post one day. This is what happens when you suffer from anxiety.
Anyway, I didn't think I could do the ship justice so this makes me feel really good. I love the idea of the ship a lot because their interactions (and this is me talking from watching their arc on YouTube) were the few times we go to explore a darker side of Bonnie onscreen. She got to be angry, vengeful, and violent. It's also one of the few times her isolation and abandonment issues were explored in a real way. What fascinates me about Kai in particular is for me he is very much what Bonnie could be or become if she was ever able to fully acknowledge her maltreatment, use, and abuse in a real way and the disproportionate toxic nature of her relationships were able to be explored. I also see a lot in him of hints of what I saw in Klaus in the beginning before his character was neutered. That's another thing, Kai was allowed to exist in darkness, even with the slight promise of redemption, the darkness was never going to go away and Bonnie allowed to birth some of that darkness and he brought it out in her as well. It's one of the very few, if not only, truly reciprocal.
Most of all, I just loved that he very openly expressed fascination with her and an attraction to her. Which, sadly, thanks to the the writers couldn't even be said about Bonnie's actual canon love interests. With Jeremy and Enzo Bonnie had to work for their attention and initiate a lot of the moments of intimacy and outside of maybe the very beginning of Beremy, acted as the pursuing and put up with a lot to make the relationship work and there was more devotion she showed in those relationship, than was showed to her, I felt, particularly with Beremy as I am admittedly more familiar with them than Bonenzo. In contrast, Bonnie never had to work to get Kai's attention, it was there from the beginning, regardless of his motives and it remained consistent and he was often actively and obsessively in pursuit of her for one reason or another.
What irritated me about Bonkai with the writers was that they actively capitalized off of their popularity and the dynamic was a large part of the appeal of Kai's character but they at the same time refused to go there and cross the line with them. JP liked to keep Bonnie and Kat, boxed in, pigeonholed, and othered so much that even when sitting on a goldmine when it came to storylines and pairings for her character, that would have likely boosted the ratings, brought new viewers, and continue to birthed fresh story potential she flat out refused to bring it to the screen or engage with the fandoms in any real way outside of trolling and exploitation. In any other hands, and with the chemistry CW and KG had. the would've not just brought new life to the show (and in a way they did anyway) but they would've stolen the show, and the latter was, like in most cases when it comes to Bonnie and Kat, the real issue the writers had with the pairing and their story.

Hey lovely Polly! Can you please explain to us why you love Soldat so much? I don't like any stuff about him, cause it's so wired, almost all stories are stupid!
Hello dear anon! 😘
Now, how can you see this
Tumblr media
and not fall in love?
Those legs. That waist. The strut. The big broad chest that is just asking for a head to lay down on it. The soft hair and those cold eyes. He's just waiting to be fallen in love with.
That said, it took me a long time to get into all the affection I now have for him. By "long time" I mean about 5 years. I don't like that they basically fetishized torture, brainwashing, and the Siberian gulags for this character. I think americans in general don't treat communist atrocities at all seriously. So I definitely have to shut off a part of my brain to be able to enjoy the character, and I think I'm one foot out of the fandom at all times.
With that aside though, the character in its bare bones is very enjoyable.
He's a stoic and precise killer, which is appealing if you have a competency kink (and I think we all do), but he also has his own personality, in my opinion - I take this mostly from his little exchange with Steve, the "Who the hell is Bucky?". Just the fact that he cursed a bit was pretty interesting and funny to me, it doesn't sound like a robotic character the way he is often portrayed!
Tumblr media
Bringing Bucky into the picture makes it more fun, because WS is like an extension or extreme version of Bucky, and extremes are intriguing. All the murderous seriousness and lack of humour that we see in the WW2 Sargent are present in WS, in the absence of his niceness and playfulness. But, because WS is Bucky, the playfulness is there, so as a fic writer you can bring that out selectively if you like. This is partly why he is interesting to me, just all this potential there.
And I think serious men are generally more appealing to women, but this is wholly speculation because I never really talk to other girls about what they like. But guys who are playful or joke around, Idk they seem immature and I feel like, "what could I possibly do with you?". It's why I prefer WS to Bucky. He's not a little fuckboi, he's all man.
Tumblr media
But because, when he is "cut off" from his past and identity, he can be a lost little puppy, that opens up the opportunity to care for him. And sometimes you just want someone to take care of and pay attention to, and support, and WS makes these scenarios more probable than Bucky does - even when you're dealing with post-WS/recovered!Bucky and WS is, seemingly, absent. Even there, he is present through his absence.
Now, I get what you're saying when you mention that almost all stories about him are stupid. You're not the only one who thinks this way. @offcast-plus1 is writing WS fics that really give him a personality, a distinct identity, and she does a great job with this, but she also approaches it carefully in order to make it realistic and compelling. I think most writers just go off of what we have from Marvel, and Marvel themselves don't seem to have taken the character all that seriously in the end - it's like they tried to, but they cut so much content, so many scenes, that no wonder writers have practically nothing to go on. I don't blame fic writers nor the character; it's not only easy but also kind of canon-compliant to write WS as a monosyllabic robot with no thoughts or feelings. This is what we were left with.
Also, there's the awkward situation that he was mostly in Hydra's hands, story-wise, so how do you set up a fic in this context? Inevitably, a lot of them will involve reader being a victim of Hydra. The alternatives are, what? Being another WS recruit, maybe a soldier or something along the lines of Black Widow, or an actual Hydra agent which most writers shy away from. Or a victim of the WS, but that brings in issues of: how does WS resist the orders to kill you or whatever it is? It's OOC that he would. It's really hard to make it work, and when you have Bucky as an alternative no wonder there's few WS-centric fics.
So yeah, as a reader it's hard to be into WS, and if you're into him it's hard to find stuff that does him justice. But as a writer, there's a lot there to write about if you have the time.
Thank you so much for this ask! I love discussing WS 😭I wish I could write more stories about him to show all this love I have for him.
