Hi! Can you pls write about when Jake was in jail with a reader who went to visit him all the time and was always by his side through those tough days?
took a minute for the ideas to marinate but i actually had an easier-ish time writing this even though i usually don't write stuff this long🤯 thank you for the sweet idea, anon, and for waiting a bit! <3
Tumblr media
summary: jake's favorite person decides to wait for him.
--
"Inmate 0706. You have a visitor."
Jake walks into the tiny visitation room and plops himself down onto the chair, thinking to himself that it's probably Jerry again. His breath hitches when he sees that it's you entering and sitting down in front of him before the glass partition.
"What are you doing here? You shouldn't be in a place like this," he says with a half-hearted smile that doesn't quite meet his eyes.
You glare at him before springing up from your chair, brimming with fury. "Is that all you have to say to me? How could you hide a whole illegal gambling business from me?"
You had been holding down the fort at one of the shops on Big Deal street as usual, unsuspecting while exchanging quick goodbye kisses with Jake before he would leave the street to take care of some unknown business the past few months. To think he had been hiding something this wrong and to this degree from you, when you thought he believed the two of you were equals.
He closes his eyes, "it was for your own good-"
"Don't. Save it with the whole protecting me bullshit."
He opens his mouth to defend himself, but stops. Maybe you're right. Maybe he should just sit here and instead savor what could be the last time you argue with him. He waits for the other shoe to drop. This is it, he thinks. Inevitable, even. He did choose this life after all.
You sit back down after having gotten that bout of rage out of your system. "I just...wish you would let me in sometimes," you admit quietly.
Jake finally looks up at you, caught off guard by the shift in your tone and words. "Y/N..."
"Ugh, whatever. I'm leaving." You grab your jacket and stand. You pause at the door without turning your head. "See you next week," you mutter.
Before he can utter another word, he watches the door swing shut behind you.
-
"Visitor for Inmate 0706."
Jake begins making his way to the visitation room.
Jason and Brad had exchanged glances with each other throughout the week as Jake looked even more lost in thought than usual in the yard, the cafeteria, his cell - thinking about you. He heard you wrong last time, right? Were you actually coming back to visit him not just once but a second time? Yeah, no, it's gotta be Jerry this time.
To his disbelief, you're already sitting there behind the glass partition with your arms crossed.
You open this visit with another glare, albeit a less icy one. Despite still being here, you want to keep holding onto your rightful grudge and hurt so badly. But your eyes finally take in his short hair, the new scar on his mouth, the way the weight he's been carrying manifests in his eyes and body. And you find yourself unable to prevent the soft concern filling your eyes.
You let out a deep sigh.
"How's the food in there?" you finally break the silence.
Jake can't help but crack a smile at your concerned, trivial inquiry.
"It's...edible." The both of you laugh.
...
"Wait, what the hell is prison spicy chicken?"
After last being together in the outside world only a few weeks ago, the two of you begin to slip back into your usual rapport.
-
While the two of you still manage to chat it up and laugh together, there are still visits where you find yourself waiting to leave the room before you finally let your tears fall. Days where the ache of only getting weekly glimpses of him behind a layer of glass gets to you, peeks at the world of turmoil swirling in and around him that you find yourself helpless to truly solve.
The seasons pass, and it's getting these weekly looks of you that mark the passage of time for Jake. He looks forward to seeing what new change he can spot every visit - the haircut you usually get around the summertime, whether you had time to change out of your part-time job uniform before coming to visit.
And the weekly visits go like this. Although being separated from you does give him an extra reason to want to kill Gun - it's during these brief moments in time with you that he's reminded maybe there can be more to his life than revenge. The incessant physical training, the brutal fights every day in the prison all blur together in a black and white cut, but seeing you brings a little bit of color back into his life.
-
You stand outside of the detention center gates with the other heads of Big Deal, all of you anxiously trying to peer through the doors in the distance for any sign of Jake. He finally walks through the gates with Jason and Brad following behind. "Welcome back, Boss," mingled with big smiles and back pats amongst you. Jake finally stops in front of you, almost in a daze. He's seen your face every weekend for the past 11 months, but something about seeing your entire person standing before him feels like a pair of hands shaking him by the shoulders.
"Welcome back, you big idiot." You give him a light punch in the arm.
He pulls you into a warm embrace while cradling the back of your head, "I missed you, too."
"Hey Boss, the rest of Big Deal are looking forward to-" Lineman's cheerful words immediately get cut off by consecutive smacks from Jason, Brad, and Luah alike.
"Read the room," Luah shout-whispers at Lineman while giving him a second smack in the head for good measure.
"We'll see you later at HQ, Boss. Take your time." Jason waves in Jake's direction before scampering down the road with Jerry and the rest of the crew. Jake chuckles and waves back.
You smile and grab Jake's hand, "let's go get you a proper meal."
-
You and Jake sit outside your go-to pojangmacha waiting for your orders. His head is swimming with thoughts of how he could possibly begin to thank you for waiting for him this whole time when he least deserved it, how he can articulate this gratitude and affection that's bigger than anything he can offer you in this moment.
Fresh hot plates of vegetable tempura, fish cake, and kimbap emerge before you. He indulges in the first delicious fried food he's had in months with you. The two of you feed each other skewers of tteokbokki while easing back into the groove of your usual banter sprinkled with laughs in between.
"Oh, and this is for you."
You pull out a paper box from the bakery with a slice of red velvet cake enclosed inside.
"Ta-da! It's not much, but I hope this is a slight upgrade to the cigarette-choco pie birthday cake you had in there," you grin. You scoop out a chunk of cake with the fork and hold it in front of his mouth.
"Hey, I told you you didn't need to get me anything." He's already been madly in love with everything about you, but something about this little gesture feels like it's about to tip something over in his chest.
"Hush and take a bite already!"
Jake complies with a smile. He then moves to close the distance between you two with his hand cupping your cheek, his eyes still fixed on you. He gazes at your face with an overflowing amount of affection and presses his forehead to yours, as if to pause and wonder if he still deserves to lock his lips with yours after all this time.
As if to reply with a resounding 'yes,' you pull his face to yours and kiss him deeply, tasting the sugary sweet mild cocoa flavor still lingering on his lips.

SPOILERS!!! REFERENCES AND EASTER EGGS IN F&C ep. 9: CASPER & NOVA (1 of 2)
I hit the image limit so this post will be in two parts.
Tumblr media
These last two episodes feature traditional Adventure Time title cards with intro credits, which is something the others haven't had.
Tumblr media
There is a butterfly floating above Fionna when she enters the "Land of Ooo". The same thing happened to Cake when she entered Ooo, and to Simon later on, but this butterfly doesn't have a face on it like those. This is our first hint that something is wrong.
Tumblr media
The Betty statue in the background of this shot is on top of a four-faceted object that sort of resembles Glob's helmet; an item that she used to gain her magic powers in You Forgot Your Floaties. Also in this shot are several gnome fairies from The Enchiridion and Billy's Bucket List, and of course Mrs Cupcake and genderswapped Chocoberry. Mrs Cupcake has appeared before but I think Chocoberry is a new design for this episode.
Tumblr media
This is our first and only look at what Hunter Wizard would look like. Mostly the same as his main universe counterpart.
Tumblr media
This species of dragon first appeared in Memories of Boom Boom Mountain and has been in several subsequent episodes. I'm not sure who the giant cyclops is. It could be a genderswap of the cyclops from Another Way, or perhaps the rock giant from Five More Short Graybles.
Tumblr media
Lots of the text in this scene is hostile. There is this sign behind the counter, of course, but lots of the books on the shelf also have violent names.
Tumblr media
This series loves giving us extremely fucked up Simons.
Tumblr media
This background character looks like Phlannel Boxingday. It would be hilarious if that was the case, considering he is widely assumed to have been a disguise of Princess Bubblegum rather than his own character.
Tumblr media
This might be genderswapped Tiffany. She's wearing Tiffany's pink shirt under her jacket. Maybe she has a masculine name in this universe.
Tumblr media
We get a better look at the newspaper from the first episode, featuring Betty. It also features the fake butterfly from the dream which feels like a bad omen.
Tumblr media
Marshall Lee's t-shirt features the cake pop from Princess Bubblegum's rock shirt, first seen in What Was Missing.
Tumblr media
The Lich first mentioned being a Scholar of GOLB in the episode Whispers. In this episode it is confirmed that he has been working towards his goals in GOLB's name. But it doesn't seem like he's actually had any line of communication with GOLB this whole time. GOLB doesn't seem to appreciate The Lich's efforts to wipe out all life; and now that GOLB is fused with Betty, they certainly don't.
Tumblr media
The Lich rips off Billy's skin to reveal his skeletal form, which is the same as it was in Escape from the Citadel, complete with the metal plate on his ribcage.
Tumblr media
GOLBetty turns the Lich into a tetronimo, implying that all of the tetronimoes surrounding them were once powerful beings who defied GOLB; perhaps they are even all alternate versions of The Lich.
Tumblr media
Shermy and Beth! This episode incorporates a lot of the extra lore that writer Steve Wolfhard published shortly after the release of Come Along With Me. It canonises the fact that Shermy and Beth are rebels who oppose the tyrannical rule of Gibbon, who is Charlie's future son from Daddy-Daughter Card Wars. This place is the Pup Kingdom, which is featured in the Come Along With Me title sequence and is a central part of Wolfhard's 1000+ lore.
Tumblr media
These are the same kinds of soldiers as seen in Graybles 1000+ when Cuber interrupted the space wedding. In that episode, you only got a very brief glimpse of their jowls. This episode makes it more obvious that they are pups.
Tumblr media
All of these pups in the windows are designs from Steve Wolfhard's "Every Pup Has a Power" series of drawings. They once had superpowers, but their powers were extinguished by Gibbon.
Tumblr media
This is Jake's favourite mug from the episode Puhoy, and the house in the snowglobe is Tree Trunks' house.
Tumblr media
There is a Shermy plush in this pile of junk. There might be some other recognisable stuff in that pile too. I think the popcorn machine is from something but I can't remember what, and the pool toy might be a reference to the Lub Glubs from Beautopia.
Tumblr media
This is our best shot of the Pup Kingdom, with its space elevator.
Tumblr media
Beth is a revolutionary communist confirmed.
Tumblr media
Shermy Simon shouts breadballs, an expletive that he previously used in the episode Simon & Marcy.
Tumblr media
The clouds in Fionnaworld are shaped like GOLB blocks while Simon is in the presence of GOLB. We also get a better look at all the glitched out buildings, like that door that leads nowhere.
Tumblr media
I think the creature next to Gunter in this advert is a yeti from the show Summer Camp Island, which a bunch of Adventure Time alumni went to work on after the original show ended.
Tumblr media
There is a poster for Super Porp, a fizzy grape juice introduced in the episode Dark Purple, along with their mascot Cheryl.
Tumblr media
Jake is on these packages in one of the shops.
Tumblr media
The Library looks incredible now. In the original show, only the top part with the dome could be seen sticking out of the ground. Either the ground has eroded away to reveal the rest of the structure, or the library has been greatly expanded over time.
Tumblr media
Turtle Princess is dead and apparently a robot took over her empty shell and continues to work as a librarian. These are the first gun-books we've seen that also function as actual guns.
Tumblr media
These are the pagelings from the episode Paper Pete. They're much larger than they used to be. They don't have many books left to protect these days.
Tumblr media
Casper & Nova mention lodging in the seaside town of Scandia on their quest to find the crown. This is a reference to the fact that Simon and Betty found the crown in Scandinavia, as mentioned way back in Holly Jolly Secrets.
I hit the image limit! Link to the second part.

Tumblr media
Jake grabbed the small water bottle from your hand and drank a sip. “I just got an idea.”
You slowly turned your head to the right and studied his face. Not even the wind caused by the fan you waved before your face could hide the mischief that was written all over his features. “Oh no.”
“Oh oui.” He smiled from ear to ear, wrinkles spreading at the corner of his eyes that were partially shielded by the thick frames of his sunglasses. He placed the bottle on the chair, in the spot between his open legs. “We’ll make a bet.”
You slid your sunglasses down on your nose, looking over them. He did the same, causing you to smile. “Go on.”
“Remember how you didn’t want to be here today?”
“I wanted to be here,” you corrected him, hoping he knew that you enjoyed the opportunity to attend such a big sports event, “I didn’t want to sit in the sun for hours.”
“That’s exactly what I said: you didn’t want to be here.” You rolled your eyes. “So, I thought we could bet on how we’ll spend the rest of the evening once the game is over.”
You quickly glanced behind Jake’s shoulders, his friends were chatting in French. Something about the colour rose, you assumed they were discussing how Jake’s Barbie pink shirt clashed with pretty much everything in the court.
“If Djokovic wins,” Jake spoke, catching all of your attention again. “We go straight back to the hotel...” You mirrored Jake’s smirk as he paused, both of you knew what he intended with that silence. “But if the Norwegian player wins, we’re going out for dinner” he mouthed the words ‘with them’, his thumb in front of him and pointing back at the couple without raising suspicions.
“That doesn’t make sense.” You frowned. “That’s not even a bet.”
Visibly disappointed, Jake asked you why.
“We both know Novak’s gonna win. Everybody knows that.”
“I didn’t know you were a tennis connoisseur. That’s hot.” He leaned forward to capture you lips in a kiss.
You kissed him back. Then, you pondered at his bet for a minute, honouring the reflection time it took him to come up with such a plan. “My bet is on Djokovic.” You answered with a firm nod, stretching your hand out to shake his.
Jake enthusiastically shook your hand. “Mine too.”
You rolled your eyes again. You set down the fan to cross your fingers, some extra superstition was more than welcome if it could avoid an extra late dinner in a crowded restaurant where people would argue about the winner of the French Open.
Jake nudged your sides with his elbow, glowing in all the pinkness of his shirt. “We look good together.” He leaned his arm on your thighs, resting a possessive hand on your knee which brought you to scoot closer towards him.
Your heart skipped a beat at his words. You sure did look good together. You reached to his neck and fixed the pendent of his silver chains, placing it in the middle where all of your hickeys and love marks had sadly faded away.
“That  guy better fucking wins or else.” He flexed his neck, making it crack a little bit to release some of the growing tension. Needless to say, he would have a hard time turning his head left and right to follow that stupid neon green ball around. He would rather have his eyes glued on you the entire time and get out of the court before the second set.
*~*~*
The tension. It was unbearable.
Each ace, each quick sneaky hit, each grunt from the tennis players made you squirm on your uncomfortable chair and it made you wish this would all come to an end quicker. Just give the man his obnoxiously giant trophy so Jake and you could get ahead of the crowd. However, you still tried to enjoy the game, not that you paid much attention to it.
Jake and you  were playing your own game of back and forth, of testing the limits of  what would tip you over the edge. You stroked his arm, brushing your finger tips over his skin until you left a trail of goosebumps despite the heat outside. Jake’s hand would rub up and down your thigh, always reaching dangerously high. You had to remind yourself to adjust your skirt constantly. He would squeeze your knee, your leg, your thigh — basically whatever he could touch and not be called out for public  indecency. He let you press yourself against him, or wrap an arm around him so that you were impossibly closer and just toying with his chains to stop yourself from kissing his neck.
You were quite proud when he popped open a button from his shirt. Whether it was from the heat of the weather or the heat from his body and his desire to take you right here and there barely mattered. You were gladly surprised how he lost composure before you, so much so that he had to pull out his phone multiple times to send a short warning through text messages or to remind you that he wanted you just as bad as you wanted him.
He hid it by pretending to take a photo, but there was nothing in his camera roll that would support his alibi. Unless pictures from the previous night where he fucked you with a view of the Eiffel tower counted. You were not so sure how a blurry photo of his cum over your breasts with the twinkling monument in the background would convince anyone that you were two civilized tennis enthusiasts.
“Let’s get out of here.” You insisted as soon as the game was over and people cheered for the winner.
Jake repeated it, following you out of the section of seats. His hands were on your hips and his body pressed against yours. It looked as though he was scared to lose you amongst the sea of people — even though your VIP tickets offered you a sneaky way out. It also looked as though he was using the little friction caused by your bodies being squeezed together when someone would cut you off in the line to get some relief.
You said it again, you needed to get out of here and quick. You were not having any of the small talk from Jake’s restaurateur friends or from anyone, for that matter, who just bonded after witnessing tennis  history. You wanted out. Fast.
By some strand of luck, you avoided traffic and took a car back to your hotel. You thanked the  chauffeur, rushing out of the car where you had been kissing and rubbing  obscenely on each other. Jake paid him generously, causing the driver to shout “Monsieur, monsieur!” as he tried to give some of the money back to your man. Only, you were already on your way towards the entrance of the hotel lobby.
You were greeted by the one of the hotel managers who spoke with a thick French accent. He talked and talked and talked, something about how the building seemed empty with most of the residents having attended the French Open. You answered with nods and smiles until you excused yourself and took the lead, dragging Jake by the arm where his silver watch and bracelet made clicking noises  from all the movements.
“You’re so fucking needy for me.” Jake told you, not caring enough to lower his voice.
For a seemingly empty hotel, the elevators in front of you were occupied and smashing the buttons did not make them climb up and down faster. You noticed how Jake was fidgeting, eyes darting everywhere, as you sighed with frustration.
“Got an idea.” Jake spoke, his face buried in the crook of your neck where he busied himself by leaving as many kisses as he could in such a small amount of time — which was both a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing to feel your skin on his lips, something he wanted to do since you arrived to the world renown court.But it was a curse because it felt like he was stealing time away from what the two of you desperately wanted.
“Is it better than your bet?”
He laughed against your skin, tasting the sweat on his lips as his tongue caressed the spots he kissed hungrily. “Not at all.”
“I already love it.”
“You’re fucking perfect.” Jake smiled widely. He spotted the door that led to the stairwell and pushed you in that direction.
There were giggles that echoed in the empty room as the two of you tried to  walk up a few levels of stairs. You stopped to catch your breath and,  immediately, you had hands exploring your body.
Jake was pulling and gripping on the fabric of your clothes until he had your body pressed against his and your mouths connected by a deep kiss. One second, he had your face in his hands as his tongue danced around yours. The next second, his hands were groping your ass. He pinched your cheeks harshly, giving each one a loud slap that, too, echoed in the stairwell.
“We gotta wait until we’re in the suite, come on.” You lolled your head back and let him nibble on the skin of your neck  and cover it with open mouthed kisses. He grunted in response. “Jake —”
“Daddy.” He corrected, earning you an even harder spank on your ass to remind you what head space to be in.
“But Daddy!” You tried to stop him, nudging at him so he would recognize the risks of you getting caught.
“I  thought,” he spun you on your feet so that you were looking out the stairwell window, the busy City of Lights now before your eyes. “You said that you loved my idea, hmm?” His left hand crept up your body and lingered around your neck before he moved it up, his thumb dragged your bottom lip down. “Did you change your mind?”
“No, I —” You were interrupted again by two fingers entering your mouth.
“You what?” His right hand pressed on your tummy so that your ass would push against the bulge of his navy blue pants. “Go on.”
“I...” You struggled to speak with his fingers filling your mouth, so you mumbled  your way into trying to say that you “don’t wanna get caught.”
He laughed at how pathetic you sounded and did not let you say another word. Instead he pumped his index and middle fingers in and out, fucking your mouth with a smirk on his lips. “Shh, it’s not good to lie.”
You felt him rub against your body, his bulge pressing between your ass cheeks and making the fabric of your skirt ride up.
“I  know you love being watched.” Jake’s hand lowered and reached under your skirt. He leaned his chin on your shoulder and whispered to your ear. “I bet that if someone walked in, you would beg me to keep going.”
You nodded, spit drooling down his fingers and your chin as he kept fucking your mouth.
“That’s right. Such a good slut, you wanna give everyone a good show.” You opened your legs and leaned forward, giving Jake access to your core that he roughly rubbed over your soaked panties. With a quick motion, he pushed your panties to the side and pressed his hand against your slick covered pussy.
You exhaled audibly when his warm hand touched your even warmer core, suddenly all of the hours that flew by as you waited for this moment became worth it. Your hips instinctively  humped his hand, soaking him up.
“Fuck yeah, suck my fingers like they’re my cock.” He grunted when you lost yourself in the moment, your eyes shut and your cheeks hollowed around his digits.
You sucked on his fingers, your head bopped back and forth to meet his thrusts and your tongue twirled around his digits. You wished it was his cock, you wished you could taste his precum on your tongue.
He slapped your pussy, you flinched and gagged around his fingers. The sound bounced back against the walls of the stairwell. “That’s my good girl.” He spanked it again. The slaps were quick, he was not even trying to make them hurt. He was just riling you up for his own viewing pleasure of watching you fall apart under his hands.
Tears leaked from your closed eyes when Jake finally pulled his fingers out of your mouth. He smeared some more of your spit over your chin as you smiled.
He moaned as you enjoyed it. He, too, enjoyed making you look so messy and pretty for him. All the expensive clothes and jewellery he gifted you could never make you look as beautiful as you did just now, and just like the countless other times he had you crying of pleasure and begging for more.
You were begging now too: for more friction on your clit, for his fingers to stretch open your dripping pussy and, even better, for his cock to fill you up.
After a bunch of other pussy slaps that made your skin tingle, Jake pulled down his pants and underwear to the middle of his thighs. He smeared the drops of precum across his tip and used his hand that was wet from your pussy to lube himself up. “I’ve been thinking of this pussy all day long.” He groaned as he spoke, brushing his tip through your wet folds.
Your legs parted even more open as you leaned on the windowsill. The two of you moaned at the same time when he pushed himself in your entrance. Your breath got stuck in your throat and the burning sensation quickly ignited your body all the way to your core.
He kept pushing, and not slowly.The desire to feel you wrapped around him paired with the urgency of being done before getting caught had Jake going faster than usual. Soon enough, your walls gripped on all of his length and he let out another loud grunt. He leaned down, the fabric of his pink shirt tickled the exposed skin of your ass. He asked you how you managed to not make a puddle at the game from how wet you were for him.
Your response only came in a long, loud moan that was interrupted by the noise of a door opening a few levels above your head.
Jake brought both of his hands to your mouth, covering it to muffle all of your noises and only let you breathe through your nose. If you both prayed hard enough, maybe the intruder would leave without catching a glimpse of the two of you.
Your bottom halves were exposed, Jake’s pelvis rested against your ass and his cock was filling you up to the brim. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head as you felt small strokes that increased in speed as the noise from upstairs faded.
“Jesus fucking Christ.” Jake chuckled as he started to properly fuck you, his skin slapping on yours from his steady thrusts. “That was a close call.”
You hummed against his hands, still unable to respond.
“I felt you clenching on my cock.” He remained pressed against you and made your legs shake from both the weight of him and the weight of the pleasure that was spreading through your body. “I know you liked that.” His left hand stayed on your mouth but his left one slid down your body to meet with your slick pussy. “You like putting on a show, don’t you?”
You tried to speak the words ‘yes Daddy’ but only incoherent noises left your mouth.
His lips curled into a big smile. “That’s my good girl.”
The windowsill created indents on the skin of your arms from how much you relied on it to hold you up. You even struggled to keep your head up to look at the blurry views of the Eiffel tower and historical buildings. With Jake’s sharp and fast thrusts that kept pushing you forward and making your head bop like a silly toy and with his hand that roughly rubbed your clit from left to right, you were getting dizzy.
It took no time for Jake to get close, and for you to notice it too. His grunts were low and he breathed heavily behind you. He, too, was mumbling nonsense to rile the two of you up and take you over the edge. Praises about how you were “so fucking wet” and how “your pussy was made for this cock” resonated in the room until he stopped his thrusts for good. He focused on you.
He rubbed your clit in tight circles at the perfect speed. He let you clench on his cock and moan at the feeling of him inside you. The noises coming out of your mouth let him know he was doing everything right. He pushed the index and middle fingers of the hand that was trying — and failing — to keep you quiet in your mouth to prevent you from alerting the whole building.
“That’s it baby, give it to me.” With a few more seconds of your slick walls clenching around him, he shot his load inside of you. At that very moment, Jake was the one who needed to be gagged so he was not so loud. Ropes of cum filled you up and the grip of your pussy on him only made his cock throb more.
But you loved his noises, and you loved the way he made those waves of pleasure wash over your body as you came not long after him. Your orgasm made you dizzier than what it took to get you there. One by one, your thoughts started to come back to you and you put the puzzle pieces together. You almost got caught. There was no way you could hang out in the stairwell and take it for a second round without getting caught. Your ears started to buzz at the idea and when you tried to tell Jake that it was time to hurry up, he pulled out.
“Shit,” He ignored your whining about the sudden emptiness and adjusted your panties quickly. “Act normal.” Jake told you, the stern tone of his voice did not pair well with the sight you caught of his face that looked as fucked out as yours.
You flattened your skirt in confusion as Jake fixed the rest of his clothes. You finally realized what had caused such havoc: other people had entered the stairwell and were walking downstairs, in your direction. There was no way you would pass off as someone who acted normal in the slightest. You had spit, sweat and tears on your face and your weak knees made it incredibly hard to stand still. Even while holding on Jake’s arm and leaning on him, you were shaking like the branches of the trees outside. That breeze would have been more than welcome while you sat outside during the tennis game.
Jake laughed quietly at your pathetic attempts and, when the people finally walked besides you to go to the lower staircases, he helped you out by planting a kiss on your lips. He avoided the possibility of small talk and he also turned your brains into complete mush. That was the smartest idea he had all day.
It did not last for long. At the second the strangers were out of sight, Jake’s hand slid between your closed legs to cup your pussy over your panties. Sure enough, they were soaked and so were your inner thighs. Your felt him smile against your lips before he broke the kiss.
“Those panties are completely useless.” He stated the obvious with a light shrug. He reached both of his hands between your legs and pulled hard enough on the wet fabric to tear it apart so he could take it off for you. “You look so pretty for me, dripping with my cum like that.”
You watched him with your jaw dropped and glossy eyes while he put the ruined lingerie in the pocket of his pink shirt. The wetness would soak through it too, but you doubted that he cared much about that detail.
He grabbed your hand, his fingers still sticky from touching your panties. “Come on, baby. We’ll order some room service.” He pulled you along until you found the closest exit out of the stairwell. Neither of you were capable of using the stairs, at least not for their intended purpose. “Wanna bet on something else?” He ignored the way you shook your head in disapproval of whatever idea had popped above his head like a cartoon light bulb. “I bet that my cum will still be dripping out of you by the time we make it up to our room.”
You awkwardly walked with your legs closed and avoided looking at anything except Jake and the elevator you were headed towards. “And I bet it will have dripped down my legs.” You whispered when you got in the elevator. Much to your dismay, you were not alone.
Jake seemed content with your reply and, before pressing a kiss on your temple, he added a counteroffer to his bet. “In that case, I’ll have to add more where it came from. I need a new lock screen anyway so I’ll take a few photos of how beautiful my baby looks.”

I think NOAH will release information about my surgery and bone fractures and dislocation and such. I'm sorry to everyone for the inexcusable match. Everything is my fault."
*this clinic specializes in adipose tissue stem cell treatment
Ibushi: (tl link)
"Sorry for the late message. I think there will be a detailed report from NOAH, but I'm letting you know that my left ankle is a mangled mess, and I'll have surgery for the right [ankle] ligament. I think there will be a release [by NOAH] soon.
I'm really, really sorry."
Ibushi: (tl link)
"I've come [this far] with the goal of getting 20 years [in ring career], so I think it might be time soon [to quit] being an active [wrestler]. I still have a lot of contracts and such left so I'll see those through!
I try not to think too much about the negative things or the future and stuff like that, but I have a lot of things [to do] like taking care of my mother, so when it's time I'll talk about it! Don't miss a single match😊 ‼️ "
Jake Lee: (tl link)
"It's not about whose fault it is or anything like that
Everyone awaits you standing in the ring again
That's what I believe."

Marufuji: (tl link)
"Good morning. [The] Ariake Arena [show] was a couple days ago.
I'm going to assume that you understand that as professionals, we have to share perfection with everyone.
I feel sorry to the fans who, spending good money and valuable time, came to watch what could not meet the expectations, if you listen to a lot of the opinions.
I write "a lot of opinions" because there are people who hold a different opinion than that.
I can't write in detail here about the two different sides, but...
I think among the staff there are probably people from either side.
So there are among the wrestlers.
"As professionals, we have to share perfection with everyone": In the end, I've certainly learned a lot from being unable to share that.
[When you're] going for sharing perfection, it's also important to take big risks.
I myself ascribe to both.
But when you gamble, sometimes you fail.
I think as people, we often want to walk the path that's safe for ourselves. I think there is an incredible amount of pressure on those who challenge themselves to taking big risks with shows that they have a responsibility for because many other people aside from themselves are involved.
I want to convey my thanks to those people. And at the same time, I want to urge [everyone] to work hard so that we, based on what happened, change the things we can change and head for a brighter future.
There have been a lot of developments on the part of the wrestlers as well, so I think it'll be exciting as long as everyone can keep their professionalism.
I wasn't able to watch New Japan's Tokyo Dome show yesterday, but the news were everywhere.
In the end it is frustrating.
And also I, you know [...]
I wasn't able to show what I'm made of at all.
I think personally, I have to try and search for something new. That goes for moves and for where I stand as well.
I feel like if I don't, then [my career] is just going to end like with me as a boring wrestler.
Because I'm a guy who does what he decides to do (I [shouldn't] say this myself]...
Look forward to it."
underneath that post was a reply by someone going:
"I agree with the risk taking thing. But what bothers me is, I think Ibushi is under contract with AEW for the time being, however through this failed gamble he got injured and I worry about how the other side [AEW] is going to react to that. Looking at it that way, I think I can't agree with a gamble that involves a wrestler from another promotion."
and then someone else replied to that:
"Ibushi came into this already injured so you don't have to write that Marufuji injured him or something, do your research before you post"
and to that Ibushi replied: (tl link)
"I was in the best condition I could've been in to walk 500 meters, not exactly [have a] match. But I gave in to [NOAH?] negotiating with me 3 or 4 times like 'can't you please make it work?' It's my fault."
NOAH: (tl link)
"An announcement about Ibushi Kta's medical diagnosis
As a result of a thorough examination, Ibushi Kôta, who suffered injuries during the NOAH Ariake Arena show on January 2nd, has been diagnosed with a complex injury of the lateral ankle ligament of the right foot, along with a rupture of the tibiofibular ligament of his right leg.
Regarding the left foot, there will be a separate thorough examination and dedicated treatment.
As soon as we learn more we will let you know further.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and concerns we caused the fans and every single person involved, and ask for your understanding and cooperation."

Do you find it odd at all that the series has very few chronological markers? In 54, we find out the series took place over roughly three years. But in 54 books, it is never Christmas, Halloween, Fourth of July, Easter, etc. They make very few references even to summer vacation. The only Animorph to ever have a birthday (to my recollection, anyway) is Tobias in 23 with the whole thing about Aria and his dad's will.
So my ask here is really three parts.
1. Why do you think they avoided specific time-of-year references in a series that all the same assumes a natural passage of time between books?
2. If you could pick a specific time of year to be Animorph-mission relevant what would it be? Kids going trick-or-treating in costume? Using the cacophony and distraction of Independence Day fireworks to do [something]? A giant community egg hunt organized by the Sharing?
3. Totally random, but if you could pick dates (or at least Zodiac signs) for the human Animorphs, what would they be? Bonus for trying to translate Ax's Andalite date of birth in another star system to the conventions of our terrestrial calendar.
Answer 1: I assume the lack of specific time markers is primarily a way to give the series more flexibility. There are a ton of drawbacks and fewer benefits to tying books down to exact seasons. If K.A.A. et al. write a book set in late October with a whole motif around Halloween, then any little change to the publication timing — adding Ax to the narrator rotation, delaying the release of this month's book for a different promotion, Scholastic switching the release order for a Megamorphs — will make the book look weird and out of place, and might force it to be edited or even cancelled last-minute. This happens occasionally with Hollywood movies, like when Iron Man 3 had a whole motif about Christmas but got released in May, and it's never a great look.
Not only that, but not getting too specific about what weather occurs when outside of "we got hot" or "the air felt cold" also allows the setting to be more flexible. A bunch of us fandalites have talked about how much fun it was to imagine the Animorphs fighting the yeerks in the next town over, whatever the next town over happened to be for the kid reading. I used to imagine the books taking place on the Jersey Shore, and other people have mentioned Kansas City, Portland, central Florida... If there's specific information about "it's October, so the snow is coming soon" or "we're tanning on the beach in February" then that narrows the location too much too fast.
Answer 2: I love the idea of the Sharing going all-in on the ultra-capitalist Seasons we have in the U.S.: Halloween Season, Christmas Season, 4th of July Season. I don't know if the Animorphs would be hypersensitive to fireworks or not — they're a trigger for most veterans specifically because they're explosions and sound like gunshots — but I also don't think that the Animorphs would particularly like Memorial Day or Independence Day as a result.
Other than that, I've headcanoned that the thing with Jake and his parents being out of town in #37 is because it's Rosh Hashanah — if some of Jake's grandparents are very traditional, that could explain Jake feeling he has to travel that weekend. While we're at it, I imagine #5 taking place near Day of the Dead, because Marco mentions Eva's presence being felt so intensely by both him and his dad throughout those few weeks.
Answer 3: I think Marco would totally be that guy who would troll about the Zodiac. Like, if anyone asks what his sign is, he'd say "Guess!" and whatever the person comes out with, say "How'd you know?" If caught out in the lie, he'd switch to saying he's an Andromeda, and then a Sextans, and then a Camelopardalis...
Rachel would of course get in on the fun, and announce her Zodiac is Ursa Major. And anyone who disagrees gets to meet her inner Ursus arctos horribilis.

I Wanna Be Yours

Jake had decided that it would be best to tell his family about you a few days before everyone was set to head out on tour, stating that he thought it’d be easiest if they had a few days to digest the news before it was time to actually hit the road with them. Jake seemed cool, calm and collected while you were growing increasingly more anxious by the minute.
“Baby. They’re my brothers and they love you already. It’s gonna be a bit of a shock, sure, but nothing that they can’t handle. By the time we leave everything will be completely normal, I assure you. If you really don’t want to do this then we don’t have to, we can do whatever you’re comfortable with. I just want you with me. Won’t be the same without you.” Your face softened at hearing his voice get quieter after he said you didn’t have to do this. It was only the millionth time of you expressing your concerns to him.
“That’s not what I meant, Jake, I’m sorry I haven’t been acting like I’m into this. I want to be with you and see you guys in your element. I love you, Jakey. I didn’t mean to project my anxiety onto you. You’re probably right, everything will be fine and I’m just paranoid. I want you to know that I’m truly excited to go with you, baby, okay?” You assure him, pulling him into your arms and brushing your lips over his forehead.
You see the corners of his mouth quirk up slightly at the confirmation that, yes, you certainly do want to be with him. “I think I know what to do to ease your mind. Go relax for a few minutes, angel, I’ll come grab you when I’m ready for you.” He puckers his lips, waiting for a kiss.
You squish his cheeks together, “Who the hell said you were in charge?” You quip. You see his brows furrow and his mouth turn down in a frown as well as it could with you squishing his cheeks. You release them with a giggle.
“ ‘m not in charge, just wanna make you feel better. Let me?” He grins.
“I’ll wait for you, baby. Wow me.” You giggle, finally giving him the kiss he’d been waiting for. He bites your bottom lip gently before pulling away.
“That’s a lot of pressure to put on a man, y/n. I shall do my best.” He leaves you with a silly little bow. You make yourself comfortable on the living room couch after stripping down to your bra and panties and wait (not so) patiently for his return.
After a couple minutes you hear the bathtub faucet start running, bringing a small smile to your lips. Baths had become kind of a love language for the two of you, a way to be close to each other and just relax. You’d run one for Jake when he was sore or stressed, and he’d give you puppy dog eyes until you got in with him. He’d run one for you when you were tense or upset also, knowing it was the easiest way to help you unwind.
Just when you were starting to get impatient, Jake appeared in front of you, taking both your hands in his and gently pulling you up off the couch. “C’mon, angel, let me love on you.” He whispers before leading you by the hand to the bathroom.
He’d set up a ton of candles all over the bathroom counter, poured you each a glass of red wine, had music softly playing, and he’d put lavender oil and some bubbles in the bath.
“Are you joining me, baby?” You ask in your sultriest voice.
“I mean, I didn’t wanna assume, I was just gonna sit in here and keep you company.”
“Will you join me?” You clarify.
“Yeah, angel, of course. Anything.” He disrobes immediately and steps into the tub, taking his wine glass with him, leaning against the back of the tub when he sinks down in the bubbles. He makes grabby hands at you, dripping water and bubbles covering his skin.
Slowly, you remove your bra and panties, giving him a little show. “Fucking stunning, angel. C’mere, let me love on you.” He breathes with his gaze fixed on you, one hand traveling down to grasp his hardening cock.
You sink down in the tub in front of Jake, back pressed against his chest and his length growing harder against your ass. You grind back on him, making him groan. His hand snakes down to rub slow circles over your clit. “Gonna let me in? Please, mommy? Wanna be inside you so bad, feel you all warm and wet wrapped around me. Feel you cum all over me. I don’t care what it takes from me, please.” He whines in your ear, middle finger making its way down to plunge inside of you.
“Fuck, Jake… I want it too, baby, but we can’t. Your fingers feel so fucking good, please don’t stop.” You gasp as he inserts his ring finger along with his middle. His thumb goes back to rubbing your clit while his fingers relentlessly pound into you.
“Yeah? How good? Tell me more, honey.” He whispers between kisses and bites along your neck.
“So fucking good, Jakey, oh my god. Your fingers feel so amazing, I never want you to stop.” You’re writhing, fucking yourself back on his fingers like the greedy creature you are.
Jake is groaning in pleasure, both from knowing he’s making you feel good and from the friction of your hips moving against his. “Gonna cum for me? Give it to me, soak my fucking fingers baby.” He whispers in your ear before biting down hard on your neck. The pain mixed with the pleasure he’s giving you threw you over the edge, screaming his name and thrashing around, splashing water over the edge of the tub to pool in the floor.
“Good fucking girl, angel. Keep saying my name, fuck, I’m gonna cum. Please, can I?” His voice starts out deep and raspy and ends on a high pitched whine. You manage to gasp out a yes between the curses and nearly unintelligible praises leaving your lips, grinding back on him harder to help bring him to his peak.
“Cum for me, Jakey. Make a mess baby, you’ve earned it.” You breathe once you’ve come down enough to be able to get words out again. Jake stops moving his fingers inside of you but keeps them buried deep inside. He lets out a loud groan and you feel him twitch and pulse against your ass before painting your skin with his release, chest heaving with his panting breaths.
“Baby?” You whisper once you feel him relax against your body and slowly ease his fingers out of you.
“Mmm?” He grunts, slowly growing soft against your ass.
“ ‘m gonna drain the tub and start the shower. The water’s kinda filthy now.” You giggle, rising from in front of him to drain the water, laying out a couple towels to soak up the spilled water in the floor, and starting the shower to quickly clean the both of you off.
——————————-
Jake puts his jeep in park outside his house and shuts the engine off before gently brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. “You ready, angel?” He murmurs, squeezing your hand in his before bringing it to his lips to press a kiss to your knuckles.
His brothers were inside waiting for the two of you. Jake had invited them all over for dinner, and he really had cooked dinner and gotten a few bottles of wine, but it was mainly an excuse to get them all there to talk.
“As I’ll ever be. Let’s do this before I chicken out.” You exhale a long breath while he makes his way around the car to open your door for you, then walks you into his house with your fingers laced together. He nudges you in the door ahead of him and pulls it shut behind you both.
“Y/n, you made it! Did princess Jake take too long fixing his hair?” Josh jokes, pulling you in for a hug.
“That’s fucking rich coming from you.” Jake snorts, playfully rolling his eyes.
The boys all greet you with a hug while Jake sets off to plate the meal he’d cooked. Once the table’s set and everyone’s digging in, Jake speaks up. “We wanted everyone to come over here to tell you all something.” He starts, but Sam cuts in.
“Oh my god, are you pregnant?”
“SAMUEL, you can’t just ask people that. What the fuck is wrong with you?” Josh scolds him, smacking him upside the head.
“Jesus fucking Christ. No, Sam. There’s just something we feel you need to know before y/n comes out on the road with us.” Jake glares at his youngest brother.
“Long story short, I’m a demon- a succubus. I sold my soul for eternal life and now my job is to steal energy from mortal men, but before I say anything else I want to make it known that I have not, nor will I ever, feed on Jake. If it was up to me, I wouldn’t do any of it anymore, but my hands are tied. We just wanted you all to know in case you happened to see me hunting for someone to feed on.” You explained so that Jake wouldn’t have to.
“A demon? Interesting.” Josh sounds like he’s thinking aloud but doesn’t sound too surprised. You figured he probably sensed something was up through his twin bond with Jake.
“Is this a fucking joke?” Sam sputters.
“No, Sam, she’s telling the truth. I met her boss and he absolutely wouldn’t give her any other option but to do as he said. But she’s never fed on me and she only goes for lowlifes that prey on innocent people. She’d never hurt an innocent person. You can trust her.”
“Trust her? You can’t trust a fucking demon, Jake. Are you stupid? Never mind, don’t answer that. If that thing is coming then I’m not going.” Sam spits before storming out and slamming the door behind him.
You’re stunned silent, you can feel tears pricking at your eyes but you hold them back. Jake is also silent, but his face is red and you can feel him almost vibrating with rage.
“I’m so sorry about him, y/n. Sometimes he freaks out when he’s scared, and it’s no excuse. It’s a big surprise, but we’re not gonna think any less of you. You make Jake happy and if you both say that you won’t hurt him then I believe you. Danny and I are gonna go talk to him. Try not to let that get you down too much though, trust me, he’ll come around and we still want you there.” Josh squeezes you in a hug, making a few of the fears fall. “Dont cry, darling. Everything will be okay.” Josh pats your shoulder before telling Danny he’ll be waiting in his car since Sam had been Danny’s ride and he’d torn off without him.
“We really are so sorry, y/n. I can’t imagine how hurt you must be. Just know that he’s overreacting and we’ll make him see that. Don’t doubt anything, we still want you with us.” Danny assures you, pulling you in for another tight hug before walking out to meet Josh in the car.
“Tell that fucker he owes us both an apology!” Jake shouts after Danny, getting a thumbs up in response.
—————————
Josh and Danny drive to Sam’s house, knowing that’s where he would go. “I’ll go in first, give me like five to ten minutes and then come in. It’ll be better if he doesn’t feel like we’re ganging up on him right off the bat.” Danny says once they’re parked in Sam’s driveway. Josh nods in response, turning the radio on low and relaxing back in his seat.
Danny uses his key to unlock the door and slowly makes his way through the house looking for Sam, before arriving at Sam’s bedroom. “Sammy? It’s me, I just wanted to talk.”
“Leave me alone, you’re just gonna tell me what an asshole I was and try to make me feel guilty for worrying about my brother sleeping with a fucking demon. I don’t want to hear it. I’m not going anywhere with her and the rest of you shouldn’t either.” Sam’s curled up on his bed, head leaned on Rose, arms crossed and pouting.
Danny’s quiet for a minute then he speaks up. “Sam, you heard them both say that she’d never hurt him. What reason would Jake have to lie?”
“I didn’t say he lied, just that his judgment is off. He’s in love with her so he’s overlooking all that shit, we’re not, so it’s up to us to look out for him. Let him hate me for that, I don’t fucking care.” Sam scoffs.
“Dude, you’re acting like a fucking baby. Our brother who we love is happy with someone who, based on everything we’ve seen, is good to him. Shouldn’t we just let him have that? Every relationship can end with someone getting hurt, but he loves her and she loves him. Grow the fuck up.” Josh speaks up from the doorway, having just walked in and overheard the end of their conversation.
Sam scoffs again and looks to Danny for help, but Danny just shrugs. “I’m with Josh on this one. Jake’s happy and I’m not gonna do anything to try and fuck it up. You shouldn’t either. She’s going on tour with us, not moving in with you. How much does this truly affect you?”
“You’re serious?” Sam asks, incredulous. Josh and Danny both nod.
“I know you don’t want to hear this either, but I really think you were in the wrong here. Y/n is crying and Jake is fucking irate. He said to tell you that you owe both of them an apology.” Danny says with his hand on Sam’s shoulder.
“She cried? I didn’t mean to make her cry, man. I guess I was kinda a dick, huh?” Sam admits.
“Come back to Jake’s with us and say you’re sorry? It’ll mean a lot, to both of them.” Josh suggests.
“He doesn’t want to see me right now and I’m sure she doesn’t either. I asked if she was pregnant and then said she was a fucking thing!” Sam throws his hands up.
“You know it’ll only be worse the longer you wait. He’ll keep getting madder and madder about it until you say you’re sorry. And y/n’s thinking about backing out of the tour so you need to talk her out of it.” Danny says matter of factly.
“Let’s fucking go, then. Jesus Christ.” Sam huffs, grabbing Rose’s leash and following Josh and Danny back out to the car.
——————
“Get out of here, Sam, I’m fucking serious. Look at her, man.” Jake grumbles as soon as he sees Sam walk back in, gesturing to you sobbing into his chest.
“I’m just here to tell you I was wrong to say that shit and I’m really sorry. To both of you. Y/n, I overreacted and said things I didn’t mean and I’m sorry. We want you with us, all of us do. You make Jake happy and we’re all glad to have you around. Jake, I know what I said hurt you just as much as y/n, and I want you to know how sorry I am. Just know that, and please still come with us. At least think about it.” Sam says sincerely, putting his hand on your shoulder.
“I really appreciate that, Sam, but this is your tour, all of you. I don’t want to go if it makes any of you uncomfortable.” You wipe your eyes and meet his gaze.
“I’m not uncomfortable, y/n, not at all. You’re a good person and I know that, I just let the shock get the better of me. I want you there, we all do.” He assures.
“We want you there, baby. Don’t let my idiot brother change your mind, he wants you there too.” Jake says, taking both your hands in his.
“I’ll think about it. I want you all to think about it too, if any of you feel uncomfortable with me going then I don’t mind staying home. I was really nervous to tell you guys, Jake was the first person I’d ever told. I just didn’t want to be out on the road with you guys with any secrets between us.”
They all offer words of encouragement and assure you that yes, they do want you there, and then Jake practically shoves them all out the door with a goodbye.
“I’m so sorry, angel. I knew he’d be surprised but I didn’t think he’d freak out like that. I promise you he didn’t mean it, love. Wanna go home and snuggle up with the tiny freeloader and I?” Jake kisses you softly, wiping the remainder of tears off your face.
You laugh quietly and nod, pulling him into a tight hug and squeezing him. “I love you, Jake.”
“I love you, honey.”

Okay, so I rewatched PR:U for the first time since its release, and I definitely had some thoughts.
To begin with, what is with the really bizarre product placement in the beginning. Jake did not need to hold up those Oreos so blatantly lmao.
PR:U jumps straight into the action in a really identifiably different way than Pacific Rim does. In PR, Raleigh narrates the Kaiju War and then we see him and Yancy get into the Knifehead fight, and it flows really well overall. On the other hand, PR:U starts with a quick relay of the Kaiju War, and then we're introduced to Jake in the regions still affected by past Kaiju attacks (i.e. half-destroyed mansion, which I also have some thoughts on). So it quickly becomes clear he's got some black market dealings going on, and the first action sequence of the movie is Jake running from these random Jaeger scrappers (??). It's just really throwing compared to the first one, since we at least have a general idea of what's going on with Raleigh.
Side note: I'm assuming they're in the Bay Area that was largely evacuated considering they head toward a Jaeger scrapyard, so how does that mansion have like...any utilities.
So then we're introduced to Amara, who can build a sickass Jaeger but has no security system? I don't know, she seems really careful about being discovered for obvious reasons, so I feel her hideout would at least have an alarm or some kind of traps, But Jake essentially just strolls in.
Of course, then we have November Ajax vs. Scrapper, which I actually do like. Its nice to see what the new Jaegers look like, and see what Scrapper, the first single-pilot Jaeger, is capable of. This scene also really seals the tone of PR:U as kind of lighthearted and jokey while also having action and death, which isn't really the case in Pacific Rim.
Another thing I like: Amara and Jake's relationship. A lot of things about this movie feel funky, but I think the actors did a very good job of forming a very genuine-feeling bond between these two characters.
Mako's introduction just feels. very bizarre. I understand that she obviously can't be there in person, thus the hologram, but the whole situation just has a weird vibe that I can't place. I'm not sure if it's because Jake and Mako act so familiar with each other even though Jake was never mentioned in the movie, or because I'm just not a fan of the hologram bit.
Contrary to popular opinion (at least what I've seen), I really like the Jaegers in PR:U. I hate that they removed the realism from their movements that was always present in the first, but there were some very interesting weapons and new designs introduced at the same time, so I can let it slide. Except the giant rotating ball of blades on Bracer Phoenix, it can go die.
Mako's death is genuinely my least favorite scene in the movie for obvious reasons. She was essentially killed off for no reason, since we don't see much of Jake's grief, meaning they wrote her off for pointless plot purposes, which I hate.
I do enjoy the villain bait with Liwen, although it's a shame Newton ended up being the villain. They were definitely setting her up as an antagonist since she was on a side somewhat opposite to Mako's, and because it becomes clear that Shao Industries is somehow evil before having her turn around and attempt to stop Newton no matter the force necessary.
While on women in the movie, not a huge fan of how Jules was treated, but she's also not present that much so I won't go on and on about female characters being used a tool to create tension being male characters blah blah.
The fight against the Mega-Kaiju was...something. Suresh dying was completely out of the blue, and I hated it. I think the cadets all being so young is an odd decision to make, especially because in the first movie most of the Jaeger pilots come into the program in their very late teenage years at the least (besides Chuck and Raleigh, iirc). They try to justify the whole. child soldier-esque training by saying the Bond is stronger at a young age, but they didn't even have that young of recruits in the first PR and that was during a war so idk.
Raleigh not being mentioned at all is also a crime btw. Or Herc, for that matter, but he could at least make a little more justifiable sense than Raleigh.
Anyway, this was a really scattered collection of musings on the movie, but there we go.

working where others are enjoying their holidays feels like a dream come true. a dream that soon seems to be turning into a nightmare when you suddenly have to deal with your annoying and definitely not charming new co-worker, Heeseung.
"Veo veo…"
You let out a loud groan, holding your hands over your ears. You had to listen to that song during your work time often enough, it even followed you in your sleep, you didn't need to hear it in your free time too.
"Come on, let's go somewhere else. Somewhere without kids." Jake pulled on your sleeve, trying to get your attention.
"Yes please," you whined, accepting his helping hands to get up. "I love them, but I don't want to see any children on my free day."
The boy let out a chuckle. "Don't let Jay hear that. He'll start another speech on the importance of loving kids as an animator, even on your free days." You two spoke the last part of the sentence together, the words already imprinted in your brain. It wouldn't be the first time Jay made a speech like that, neither the second. With a chuckle you made your way out of the camping site, searching for a beach that was less busy, and especially not filled with kids. It took you a while, but you finally found a free spot and got comfortable on some towels.
"Silence," Jake sighed.
"Silence."
It was unusual, hearing just the sound of the waves instead of the screaming of children or the snoring of your roommates. And it was slowly lulling you two to sleep.
It was Jakes ringtone that woke you up many hours later.
"Hello?", he asked, voice still groggy with sleep. But that sleepiness disappeared in seconds, when he suddenly jumped up, grabbing all of his stuff and urging you to do the same. "We'll be there in 10 minutes."
"What happened?" You unsuccessfully tried to stifle a yawn.
"The new animators are here, the meeting will be in 5 minutes. We overslept, y/n."
"But we'll need at least -"
"I know."
The two of you started running, both hoping that you might arrive on time, even though you both knew it was not going to happen. Especially not when you saw someone blocking the hallway, standing right in the middle of it. His face lit up when he saw you two.
"Excuse me, can you -"
"No time, move, move!" You felt a bit sorry when you shoved him to the side, but Jays nice and relaxed attitude could change in an instant when someone was late. And you didn't even shove him that hard, just lightly pushed him away. He'd survive.
Despite all your efforts you were still too late, earning an angry look from Jay before he continued his speech about the responsibility of animators. When he was talking about the importance of punctuality the door opened again, revealing the guy from the hallway.
"I'm so sorry, I couldn't find the room."
Jay just nodded, before continuing. After 20 minutes it was finally all over. You let out a deep breath, getting ready to leave the room, pulling Jake behind you.
"The ones that arrived late stay for a few more minutes, please."
Shit. You shortly thought about just leaving with the rest of the crowd, but there was no escaping from Jay. So you turned around again, eyes locked with Jake, both of you silently hoping for the best. The guy from before stayed back too, keeping his distance after recognizing you.
"Jake, today was your first time being late. I assume it won't happen again?"
"I'm really sorry, Jay. It won't, I promise." Jake actually looked like he felt guilty - and he probably was.
"Good. You're on breakfast duty tomorrow then we'll forget it happened."
Jake let out released sigh, nodding, before Jay let him go.
"Now to you, y/n. How many times did this happen already?"
"Three," you mumbled.
"I'm sorry?"
"Three." Jay nodded when you answered louder.
"Three times. You're on breakfast duty too. For the whole week."
Your head snapped up. "But-"
"No but. You should have thought about this before. Now to you…"
"Heeseung," the other guy said, nervously looking at Jay. You wanted to turn around, to leave as soon as possible, but Jay grabbed your wrist.
"You're not excused yet. Heeseung, today was not your fault, but we should make sure that it won't happen again. Y/n will gladly show you everything in the next few days, am I right?"
"What?" You couldn't believe it. First breakfast duty and now this?
"Heeseung and you will share shifts and you will show him around when you don't have to work. Understood? Breakfast duty is of course only you, this is your punishment, not his."
"Of course, Jay." You gave him a fake smile, now finally allowed to leave the room.
"I'm not exactly happy about this situation either," Heeseung hissed when you walked by him.
"Oh nooo, I'm so sorry." Your voice was dripping with sarcasm. He was not the one being punished.
~~~
"So now you don't only have to babysit the kids, but also one of our newbies?"
"Yes," you groaned before handing Jake another place mat. He put it on the table, a little cup with pencils right next to it. You looked at the figures drawn on the place mat, deep in thought. "And of course I'm lucky enough to get the idiot from the hallway."
"Now you're a bit harsh, aren't you? You haven't even gotten to know him."
"And I don't want to, thank you very much."
Jake stopped to look at you, concern in his eyes. "I fear you don't have another choice if you don't want trouble with Jay again. He's already watching your every step."
Throwing your head back you let out a loud groan. "What did I ever do to him."
"You mean except for coming late one too many times and criticizing his choice of music right at the very first day?" Jake grinned at you, and you couldn't stop a small smile from forming on your face either.
"I didn't know he had picked the music. Besides, he asked for my opinion! He should accept mine."
"Y/n, you didn't say your opinion, you told him the music wouldn't even be used in hell as a torture method because it is so bad."
Now you really smiled. "And that was my opinion."
Jake just stared at you. "Let's just finish this quickly before we get in trouble again, okay?"
Breakfast duty did not only mean to prepare everything before breakfast, but also to stay there while the guests were eating and cleaning up afterwards. It at least meant that you had something to do, but after the 8th walk to the kitchen with a bunch of dirty dishes you just wanted to throw everything on the ground and leave. This was not how you imagined your summer. Doing it occasionally, sure, but a whole week? You were here to spend time with kids, not to spend time in the kitchen. Your relief was immense when you were finally done and could leave - until you remembered what awaited you now. Heeseung.
~~~
He already waited for you in front of the building all the animators lived in, throwing an annoyed glance at his watch.
"You're too late."
"Aww congratulations, Heeseungie. You already learned the first thing about me: I'm always late."
"Don't call me that."
"Oh, but I like it! Heeseungie, Heeseungie, Heeseung-hmpf." You suddenly had a hand over your mouth, your back colliding with the wall.
"I said don't call me that." His eyes were alternating between yours, lips slightly opened, panting. This nickname really seemed to rile him up.
"M'sorry.", you managed to bring out.
He removed his hand and took a step back, still staring at you. "Just show me around."
You scoffed. "You know, what if you just-"
Jay. He was coming right towards you, his look fixated on you two.
"-follow me!" You gave him a fake smile and started to walk towards the pool, hoping that Heeseung would follow. A quick look back showed that he was indeed following you, Jay watching everything with a content smile. You waved at him before you continued your walk. You were safe - at least for now.
"Okay, so there are two types of animation. The one in the pool and the one at our kids club. You have a pool attendant license, right?"
"Of course I do. And don't bother to play nice."
A deep breath. It still didn't calm you down.
"Okay, Heeseungie," you hissed, putting the emphasis on his nickname. You stared at each other with pure annoyance in your eyes. "Try to find your own way around then. Where do you get your equipment from?"
"I already told you not to call me that."
"My bad. I thought I already told you that I don't care!" You shrugged, waiting for him to start walking. And he did, but not towards the equipment room at the other end of the pool, but towards you. "Heeseung, stop it."
"Oh, suddenly you remember my name again? Too bad." And with that he pushed against your shoulders, causing you to fall into the pool.
"Are you insane? We could get fired for this!", you screamed, pushing your wet hair out of your face.
"You mean you could get fired," he grinned.
With a shout you walked towards the end of the pool, trying to get out, when you had an idea. "Could you lend me a hand?" You looked up at him through wet eyelashes, trying to look as innocent as possible.
"Do you think I'm stupid? No way. You brought yourself into this situation. I'll be in the equipment room, just like you told me to." He actually went away - but at least he went to the right room.
After you got out of the pool you followed him, leaving a trail of puddles behind you.
"You took your time," Heeseung just commented, having a close look at all the pool equipment.
"Yeah, and who's fault is that?"
"Who called me Heeseungie?" He smirked, turning towards you. "I think I saw everything I need. Where next? I'd like this to be over soon."
"Believe me, me too, but we're still stuck together until the end of the week."
You started walking out of the little shed, holding the door. You had a short inner debate, but you decided to be nice this time, not wanting any more trouble with Jay. "Make sure to use something to hold the door open at all times. Once it falls shut you can't open it from the inside."
Heeseung just nodded, following you into the main building. You quickly explained all the equipment, the rooms and lastly the little stage on the back of the building where you would entertain the kids every evening. It went surprisingly smooth, mostly because he didn't say anything, just nodding from time to time to signal that he was still listening. And maybe because you didn't use his nickname anymore.
"Any more questions?" Heeseung just shook his head.
"Good. Then I'd suggest we take some time to relax before the animation starts tonight - away from each other."
"I couldn't agree more," Heeseung said, disappearing quickly.
"Okay then…" You mumbled, going in the other direction to your room.
~~~
An hour later you got ready for a meeting with Jake. You were supposed to teach all the dances to the new animators - including Heeseung. But at least this time the two of you weren't alone.
"So he just pushed you into the pool?" Jake couldn't suppress his laughter.
"This is not funny! If Jay had seen this I would be in big trouble!" Jake was still laughing.
"I'm sorry. But how unlucky do you have to be to be paired up with the guy who hates you as much as you hate him."
"I don't hate him," you sighed. "I guess I can kind of understand him? I did shove him against the wall after all. It's just… he saw how Jay reacted. So you'd think he'd be a bit more empathic? I don't know…"
"Y/n, you shoved him against a wall. You haven't said a single nice word to him ever since you met him."
"But-"
"No but, y/n. Try to be nice to him today."
Your groan was cut short when the door opened and your new colleagues walked in. After a short introduction from Jake you started right away with the steps. They were easy, of course, they were for kids, so most of the group was learning it quite quickly. But Heeseung… he was bad. Really bad. He constantly messed up steps, he seemed far away with his thoughts.
"Okay!" Jake called, accompanied by a clap of his hands. "Why don't we move on to the next song. Y/n will help Heeseung, I'm sure you two can figure it out in no time."
You stared at him, mouth open. "Are you serious?" you whispered, trying not to let the others hear anything.
"This is the perfect opportunity to be nice to him. Come on y/n, you can do it."
You rolled your eyes but started to walk towards Heeseung, who looked as unhappy as you.
"Be nice." You heard a whisper behind you. Jake.
"Don't bother." Heeseung.
"Sure, if that's what you want. But rest assured that you'll be fired if you don't know the dances, Seungie."
Now it was Heeseungs turn to roll his eyes. "Don't call me that either."
"Oh, but what else would I call you then?" You took a closer look - the first time you actually looked at him. His wavy black hair, the dark brown round eyes, his lips that were tightly pressed together, and back to his eyes. They looked angry, but there was also some kind of softness in them - reserved for everyone but you.
"Okay Bambi. Stop standing there, we have dances to learn."
"I'm just waiting for you," he mumbled. To your surprise he didn't complain about his nickname this time.
You tried to slowly explain everything to him, but he still messed up the steps.
"It's literally explained in the song, I don't know how you still don't get it," you groaned. Jake had almost finished his class and you feared you had to work overtime once again. Desperation was taking over, paired with annoyance. He looked at you, jerking back in surprise when you suddenly grabbed his hands.
"What are you-" You slapped one of his hands over his mouth, holding it there.
"I will not spend hours here just because you can't manage to learn a dance for little children." You stared at him, waiting, until he slowly nodded. "Good. Now arms first."
Your grip forced his hands to do the right movements to the music playing in the background. At the beginning he was tense, trying to fight your hold, but after a while he just gave up, relaxing so you could move his hands and arms more easily. You tried that two times, then you let go.
"Now try it." This time Heeseung was actually successful, following the arm movements with ease. You had to admit that you felt a bit proud, the corners of your mouth involuntarily moving upwards. That disappeared within seconds, however, when Jake gave you a quick pat on the shoulder.
"We're done for today. But you two should probably continue for a bit, don't you think?" If looks could kill Jake wouldn't have survived that moment. He seemed to feel it too if the speed in which he left the room was any indicator.
"It feels like you want to spend time with me." You looked at Heeseung, brows furrowed.
"Believe me, if I had known this was the result I would have put more effort into this."
"Why don't you just show me everything you know and then we'll see what we have to work on?"
Heeseung nodded, and you put on the song that had been haunting you for the past few weeks. To your relief he seemed to manage that just fine, but the other songs… it was a disaster. Even your hand guiding method didn't work. You felt like you were going insane. Why did this have to happen to you? What did you do that the universe was out to get you? You didn't want to waste your whole evening trapped in this room!
"I give up," you declared, turning off the music. "This won't work. You have absolutely no talent. Good luck explaining that to Jay"
"Wait. Just- give me one more chance. Please."
You let yourself fall to the ground. "One chance. If you mess up I'm telling Jay." He nodded and you turned the music back on, watching him.
He was flawless. Nailing every step without putting any effort into it. Your eyes grew wider with every song he did.
"What. Was. That."
"The steps. Like you showed me." He grinned. He-
"You knew them all along! You lied to me!" His grin disappeared when he realized you were actually angry.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"I wasted my entire evening on a cocky idiot like you. Because I was told to be nice. Well, forget it. Look how you can deal on your own."
Heeseung seemed to get angry too, almost towering over you. "Sorry that I'm such a nuisance to you."
"You are." You stormed out of the room, relieved that you didn't have to do the animation with him tonight.
~~~
You couldn't escape him for long though. The next day you, Jake and he were signed up to take some of the kids on a little tour through the mountains. You had informed Jake about everything that happened last night, begging him to not leave you alone during the trip, making him promise. But you were still nervous. You had avoided Heeseung after the incident in the training room, changing directions whenever he walked towards you. You weren't subtle, but you didn't try to be as long as Jay was nowhere to be seen.
You and Jake were already waiting before the main gate, the kids coming slowly after another. You checked the lists, talking to parents, until all 10 children were there. The only one that was missing was Heeseung.
"Should we just go without him? We're already 10 minutes late anyways."
"We can't, there's too many kids for the two of us. Let's give him 5 more minutes, okay?"
You nodded, throwing nervous glances at your watch. If Jay found out about this…
Two minutes left when you heard some hurried footsteps coming your way.
"I'm so sorry," Heeseung gasped, trying to find his breath. "I couldn't find the medicine cabinet and then Sunghoon had my shoes and I couldn't find him either and-"
"At least you're here now. Take two minutes to gain your breath and then we'll start, okay?" Good thing that Jake was talking, because you would have let out a string of curses, not caring if the children could hear you or not.
Heeseung just nodded, taking deep breaths until he could stand upright again, signaling that he was ready to go. With a look towards Jake you fell in formation: Jake and Heeseung in the back, you guiding everyone from the front. The camping site was right at the beach, but it was only a 15 minute walk until you reached the mountains. It all went well for a while, two of the kids were clinging onto you but you didn't mind, those two were your favorites. And then you heard stones falling behind you, a loud plop and someone crying. The group came to a halt, turning around. Jake was kneeling next to a little girl who sat on the ground, crying, her knees and hands bleeding.
"What happened?" you asked, gathering the rest of the kids around you to keep them safe.
"She was climbing onto that rock." Jake was in distress, nervously running his fingers through his hair. "I was trying to get her, to help her down, but she already fell and-" He took in a shaky breath. "I should have paid better attention."
"Let me see," Heeseung mumbled, softly pushing Jake to the side, one hand opening the first aid kit. He started to clean the wounds, examining everything while you and Jake tried to calm the rest of the kids down, trying to stop them from climbing more.
You couldn't help but stare at Heeseung. His behavior was completely different from what he was around you - he actually had a soft look in his eyes now, silently whispering comforting words to the little girl. He was holding her hand while helping her, not caring how hard she squeezed it. It was… endearing. You watched the small smile on his face, catching yourself wishing he was looking like that at you too. Not that you wanted him to smile at you, at least you thought you didn't really want it, but it would be a nice contrast to his annoying side he had shown you until now.
"You're staring," you suddenly heard a voice whispering in your ear.
"I need to see if the girl is alright, don't I?" you whispered back.
"You're not staring at the girl though."
Before you could try an unbelievable attempt to defend yourself Heeseung stood up again, catching both of your attention.
"Good news is she only has a few scratches, it looked worse than it is. But I don't think she should continue this tour."
Jake nodded. "I'll take her back. You two can continue the tour."
"Jake, no," you whispered, panic creeping into your voice. "You can't leave me here alone."
"Y/n, I have to take her back."
"Let me do it. Please, Jake, you promised!"
You could see that he felt sorry, and probably a bit guilty too, but it didn't matter. "I'm sorry, y/n," he murmured, before picking the little girl up. "I'll see you in a couple hours." And he was gone.
You felt Heeseungs look on you, but you didn't dare to turn around, your eyes following Jake.
"I didn't know you hated me this much," he murmured.
"No, I don't-" Great. Now it was you who felt guilty. "Let's just continue the tour."
You walked quietly through woods, the two of you just occasionally talking to the kids, paying attention that there would not be another accident, until you reached a big opening. In the middle was a big table with food on it, Jay standing right next to it. He was smiling at first, but when he saw that Jake was missing he hurried towards you.
"What happened?"
"Nothing bad. A kid fell and had a few scratches, and Jake decided to take her home," Heeseung said, his voice calm. You could see Jay relax a bit.
"So nothing serious?"
"No," Heeseung smiled, "she'll be fine tomorrow."
"That's good. Okay kids, who wants to eat something? You two can allow yourself a small break."
As expected the children started running, Jay following right behind them, leaving you and Heeseung alone.
"I don't hate you," you mumbled.
"I'm sorry?"
You sighed and spoke up. "I don't hate you."
"Oh… well it sure seems like it." Heeseungs glance scurried to you, before moving away.
"Well... only because you're so annoying!" Shit. You hadn't meant to say it. You didn't even know why you said it - especially when you saw the look on Heeseungs face. He looked so hurt. Right now he really looked like Bambi, and you just told him that his mother died.
"Heeseung, I'm so-"
He turned around, his long legs quickly walking over towards Jay, helping with the picnic. He didn’t look to you, not even when you sat down opposite of him. You felt so guilty. Why did you have to say that? It wasn't even true! Sure, you found his behavior from time to time annoying, like when he pushed you into the pool. But himself? No.
You knew he wouldn't listen to you, and you couldn't blame him. So you tried to show him that you were sorry. Whenever you noticed the salad on his plate getting less you made sure to give him some more. Same for the little dinosaur nuggets Jay prepared. And you made sure that his drink was never empty. In the meantime, your plate was empty all the time, you were feeling too sick to eat anything, guilt already eating you up.
Jay had called a couple of colleagues to take care of the tables to accompany you back to the camping site, but just as you all were ready to go Jake came back, announcing that the girl was fine and back with her parents.
"I'll accompany you anyway if you don't mind. Four's better than three, especially when the kids are hyperactive after the meal."
None of you were against it, all except for Heeseung knowing how exhausting the way back could get. And you were actually quite busy with keeping the kids in check, running behind a little boy when you suddenly felt a sharp pain in your leg, your knee buckling before giving up completely, causing you to fall. The little boy and you looked at each other for a second, both too shocked to say something - until his face changed and he let out a loud cry. Your three colleagues instantly turned around, scrambling around the little boy and looking for scratches, until his shaky little finger pointed towards you, who was still sitting on the ground.
You slowly got over the surprise of finding yourself on the ground and tried to stand up, but your knee seemed to be against it, making you fall once again. Jake was rushing towards you, helping you to at least sit down on a bigger stone.
"What happened?" You could only shrug at Jays question. You didn't even really know yourself.
"I assume you won't be able to walk back to the camp?"
"I'm sorry, Jay."
"Don't be." He smiled softly. "But those were enough crashes for today. Someone needs to stay with you, we'll be calling an ambulance as soon as we have some reception. Is that okay with you?" You just nodded, expecting Jake to stay with you, but it was Heeseung that walked in your direction.
"I'll stay. You two have more experience with the kids anyways."
Jay nodded, a content smile on his lips. "Alright. Take care of yourselves!"
The group left, Jake throwing one last glance in your direction, although you didn't really know if it was sympathy or a warning to be nice. You hoped for the first after you and Heeseung were left in silence, not really knowing what to say. Or well, you knew what you wanted to say.
"Heeseung, I'm really-"
"Let me take a look at your leg," he interrupted. His hands wandered towards your leg, hesitating. When he looked up at you and saw you nod, he let his fingers wander up your leg. You felt goosebumps rising where he touched you, but thankfully he didn't say anything. And then he reached your knee, and instead of goosebumps you felt the sting of pain again, jerking back.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled, before returning to your leg.
"Me too." You used the opportunity to finally say the words. "I'm so, so sorry. Really. I don't know why I said that, I didn't even mean it."
Heeseung didn't say anything, and it was quiet except for your hisses whenever he touched a spot that hurt.
"I think you just overworked it. But you should have someone professional have a look at it."
You just nodded, not really sure if he even wanted you to say something.
"And thank you. For apologizing." He fetched a small lunchbox from his bag, placing it in your lap. "You should eat something." Inside were a few of the dino nuggets from earlier.
"I noticed you didn't eat before," he mumbled, eyes avoiding you.
"Thank you." Now that he more or less accepted your apology you didn't feel as suffocated as before, accepting his gift happily. Maybe he wasn't really as bad as you thought…
The ambulance arrived quickly, taking you for a check-up to the hospital. Heeseung insisted on coming with you, distracting you during the ride with stories of the kids. He really was a completely different person when he spoke about them. His eyes were shining, his smile lighting up the whole waiting room and making you almost forget about your pain. He made sure not to leave your side, and he made the whole thing a bit more endurable.
~~~
The next morning you could finally sleep in again. You had actually strained your knee, Jay allowing you to sit out todays breakfast duty, and you wanted to make good use of it. You hadn't planned to still wake up at 6:30, rolling around in your bed, wide awake. With a groan you decided to use the time differently, grabbing a quick breakfast at the bakery before heading to the beach. You looked for a large rock to sit on, not wanting the sand to get into the bandage you had to wear. It was a nice change to your hectic job. Instead of screaming kids demanding your attention every single second you spent with them you had the peaceful sound of the waves and birds flying by. You laid down, letting the sun shine on your face - this time however after setting an alarm on your phone. You closed your eyes, trying not to think of anything… and yet your mind was always jumping to one certain person, the image of his face flashing in front of your eyes. Heeseung.
You let out a sigh. Something had changed after yesterday. You didn't really know what, just that you didn't really mind seeing him anymore. And your blood didn't immediately start to boil. It was a strange feeling, but somehow also a pleasant one. It was… confusing. Way too confusing to spend your morning on it, so you closed your eyes again, trying to conjure the image of the beach in front of you or maybe a pretty sunset. But no, it was Heeseung again. Heeseung with his shiny eyes, the big grin, the - no!
With a groan you sat up, opening your eyes - and staring right at the face of the guy that inherited your thoughts.
"Good to see you too," he smirked, holding a bag in your direction. "How is your leg doing?"
"It's doing fine. What are you doing here?" You grabbed the bag and looked inside, finding an array of sweets in it.
"I saw you lying there and thought you might be hungry?" His voice was unsure. "And I was worried about you." You could barely hear the last part, he was speaking so quiet and fast, but you could hear enough. His face was covered in a deep blush, his hand nervously rubbing his neck. It was kinda cute… no, y/n, focus.
"I don't- I-" You should say no. You felt confused, you needed to clear your head first. But he looked almost scared, you couldn't just say no. And you were actually still hungry. "Do you want something too?"
Relief seemed to instantly wash over him, his face turning even more red. "Thank you. Yes." He was sitting down next to you, nervously fidgeting with his hands.
"Here," you smiled, putting a muffin into his hands to stop the fidgeting. It worked, but now he was picking the little wrapper around it apart. You watched him for a while, before you decided the poor wrapper had to suffer enough.
"Is everything okay?"
"Hmm? Oh, everything's fine." He couldn't even look at you.
You sighed. "Heeseung." No reaction. "Heeseung." He was too focused on the wrapper, or maybe too lost in his thoughts to hear you. You took a deep breath, before you carefully placed your hand on his wrist. "What is it?"
"Nothing." He was shaking his head a bit too much, just like he wanted to convince himself of it.
"Okay," you mumbled. Now it was you who picked on your donut, the silence making you nervous. You waited for a bit, hoping that he might still start a conversation, but nothing.
"Thanks for the food." You stood up, trying to get away as fast as possible. You needed to talk to Jake.
~~~
Jake had to entertain the kids at the pool today, so you sat down and watched for a while how he tried to teach them water polo. You didn't know who was more exhausted by the end: the kids from playing or Jake from explaining. But it was an endearing sight, seeing all of them having so much fun. It reminded you of Heeseung at yesterday's picnic, how he seemed to break out of his shell whenever he interacted with them. His smile… no. You didn't want to think about this. Not now.
"Are you okay?" Your head snapped up towards Jake, who was now standing right before you. You didn't even notice him.
"I'm fine," you smiled, trying to protect your eyes from the sun.
"Didn't look like it. You know you can talk to me, right? We're friends."
"I know. That's why I'm here, actually." Jakes face suddenly turned nervous, looking down at you with furrowed brows. "Aah no, that came out wrong. Of course we are friends, I just want to talk to you about something."
"Relax, it's all good," Jake grinned. "Should we go somewhere else?"
You nodded and the two of you walked towards a little forest that belonged to the camping site, sitting down on a bench.
"How's your leg?"
"It's good, actually. It doesn't even hurt as long as I don't bend it." You smiled. You were relieved that it wasn't something serious, that you could still do your job. Sure, free days were nice, but you would go insane if you had to spend multiple days without something to do.
Jake hesitated for a second, before he grabbed your legs and swung them over his lap.
"A warning would have been nice," you laughed, your hands gripping the rail of the bench - you had almost fallen down when Jake suddenly spun you around.
"I'm sorry," he joined your laughing. "Is it at least better now?"
"It is but it wasn't bad in the first place."
"Sorry." He grinned at you. "So what did you want to talk about?"
Right. That's why you were here.
"You first. We haven't talked in a while, what's going on with you?"
Jake gave you a weird look, but he just nodded, a small smile spreading on his face. "There is actually something…"
You sat upright, looking at him with wide eyes. "What?? Tell me!"
He laughed again, turning towards you. "Okay. So… there might be someone I'm interested in."
"Wait what? You didn't say anything, who is it?"
"I don't- I've only seen her two times, it's nothing, really. She just…" Jakes blush was almost as red as Heeseungs had been before.
"Doesn't seem like nothing." You smirked at him, before pulling him closer. "Come on now, who is it?"
"It's someone from the newbies. Emma? You're actually having a shift with her tomorrow."
"Ah yes, she was at the dance practice, right? She seemed nice!" You backed off a bit, thinking. "Change shifts with me."
"What? No, I can't, I-"
"Yes you can. Think about it, this is the perfect opportunity to talk to her! And to spend time with her."
"I know, but… you wouldn't want to change anyways. My shift is with Heeseung." Oh.
"Uhm… that's actually what I wanted to talk to you about."
Jakes mood shifted instantly, his face getting serious. "What did he do?"
You just shook your head. "Nothing."
"What did you do?"
"Nothing! I think I might… I don't think he's that annoying anymore."
"Hear, hear." His grin came back.
"Jake, I'm serious. I don't know what to think! Two days ago he was the most annoying person I've ever met and now? He's suddenly… nice." You felt shivers running through your body, causing Jake to laugh.
"Wow, you're down bad."
"Just forget it." You tried to stand up, but Jake grabbed your hips, pulling you back.
"Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't know this was so serious to you."
"It's not, it's just that-" I see his face every time I close my eyes. I can't stand to see him nervous or upset. I want him to smile at me again.
"I'll change shifts with you. Not because of me, but because you seem to need it too."
You nodded, eyes focused on the ground. Maybe that would give you time to figure out how to deal with Heeseung.
"And now stop looking so sad. You want to grab something to eat?"
"Oh, Heeseung already… no thank you."
"I see," your friend grinned before standing up, pulling you up too. "Hey… you can always talk to me. Or come by if you need a distraction."
You looked at him, smiling. "I know. And the same goes for you."

The next time you met him was after his shift with Emma, and Jake was a smiling mess. They were supposed to give the kids some face paintings, but apparently not only the kids, because Jake had an array of flowers on his face.
"That looks beautiful," you marveled, your hand on his chin carefully moving his face around. "Who did that?"
The blush on Jakes cheeks was enough of an answer. You looked at him with a wide grin. "So it went well, then?"
"We have a date tomorrow."
You couldn't stop the scream from escaping you, your hands grabbing Jakes shoulders and shaking him. "Jake?? This is amazing, congratulations!"
"Thank you." Your best friend was actually giggling - and changed into pure panic a second later. "Oh no, I have a date."
Now it was your time to giggle. You swung your arm around his shoulders, pulling him with you. "I'm sure you'll do great."
"You need to help me," Jake whined.
"Where do you think we're going? I'm already helping you."
In Jakes room you got comfortable on the bed, while he stood in front of his closet, trying on the third or fourth outfit.
"Nothing feels right," he groaned, letting himself fall next to you.
"Hey," you whispered, propping yourself up on your elbow. "She agreed to this date while you were wearing your work shirt. If she likes you in that she will like you in anything. Plus - and don't get cocky now - I think it's impossible for you to look bad."
"Do you really?" Jake turned his head in your direction, his eyes almost begging you to lift his mood.
"I do. You are the most handsome man in the camp - probably in the whole country."
"More handsome than Heeseung?"
You rolled your eyes, letting yourself fall backwards.
"Would you want to go on a date with Heeseung?" you heard Jake whisper.
"I don't know," you answered honestly. "I don't think I want a date, but it would be nice to spend more time with him. But at the same time I don't want to see him at all because he confuses me enough already."
Jake nodded. "Maybe you should work on getting along first. And then you could see if your feelings change in some direction." Now he was the one to prop his face on his hands. "You've only known each other for four days. Give it some time!"
"You already know what you feel for Emma though."
He smiled. "Yes, but our… relationship didn't start with me pushing her against the wall."
You had already forgotten about that, but he was right. You were the reason why you two had a bad first meeting. You were the reason why this was all so messed up. You -
"You're overthinking again."
"I can't help it. I messed up and I'm the one that makes everything complicated now."
"That's not true." The intensity in Jakes voice surprised you. "If you had really messed up that guy would be with Jay begging him to change shifts to get away from you instead of changing shifts to spend time with you. And he wouldn't talk to you at all, he wouldn't bring you breakfast, he wouldn't-"
"Heeseung changed shifts to spend time with me?"
Jake instantly stopped talking. "Erm, what? No… no, why would you think that?" He was trying to sit up, but with a hand around his wrist you pulled him right back.
"You said he was changing shifts."
"No, I-"
"Jake!"
"Okay!" he huffed. "He… mighthavechangedshiftssohecouldgoonthathikewithyou."
"Jake if you don't speak more clearly I will do everything I can to sabotage your date."
He threw an angry look at you, before taking a deep breath. "Heeseung wasn't supposed to go on that hike with us. He begged Jay to go."
"But… we had a huge fight before. Why would he want to spend more time with me?"
"Maybe your dislike has been one-sided all along?" Jake shrugged. "You should talk to Heeseung about this, not me. But you should be sure what you feel first."
"I know," you whispered, feeling tears slowly coming up. Now you were even more confused than before. Jake noticed, his hand grabbing for yours, drawing slow circles with his thumb.
"Hey, you can do it. You deal with a bunch of kids every day, you can deal with Heeseung."
But you weren't so sure about it. Dealing with the kids was easy: entertain them, make sure they're not hungry, have fun. With Heeseung however… you were doubtful that dancing to Veo Veo with him would make him happy and forget about everything that happened. No, what you needed with him was a talk, and for that to happen you needed to figure out yourself first. But how does one figure out themselves? That was already your first problem. You sat up and your eyes fell onto Jakes closet. You threw a small smile in his direction. You probably couldn't figure out your feelings today, but you could solve at least another problem.
~~~
Four hours later you were setting up the little stage, getting everything ready before the kids would arrive. You saw Jake walking by, wearing the bright yellow shirt with flowers on it that you had chosen earlier. And in his hands was a little flower bouquet. He looked so nervous, it was almost adorable.
"Where's Jake going?" The voice made you spin around, looking right at Heeseung. After a short second that you spent just staring each other you finally found your voice again.
"He has a date!"
"Oh really? I hope it goes well, he looks nervous."
"He does…," you murmured. "Okay, are you ready? Do you know all the steps?"
"How could I not after your fabulous teaching techniques." Oh. It grew silent again when you both remembered what happened after.
"I'm sorry."
"Is there anything left for me to do?"
You spoke at the same time, but you understood each other.
"For what?"
"No, it's all done."
You couldn't help but grin, the two of you once again speaking over each other. Heeseung nodded towards you.
"For everything? For being such an idiot on the first day, for not making you feel welcomed, for screaming at you, for-"
You looked up and instantly stopped talking. Heeseung was now standing right before you, your faces close in front of each other. You took in a sharp breath, your eyes fixated on his. You didn't dare to move, and neither did he.
"You don't need to apologize. I haven't exactly been nice either."
"You were just reacting to me."
"Maybe, but I could have reacted in a nice way too." He smiled. He smiled!! You could have sworn your brain stopped working in that moment, your eyes scurrying downwards and right back to his eyes.
"Thank you," you whispered, and with a small grin you added: "Bambi."
Oh no. His smile grew even wider. You should look away, you should do something - but nothing. You were frozen. You saw his hand moving upwards, coming close to your face…
and then you heard screaming. You turned around, trying to get some distance between you and Heeseung, and saw some kids running towards you. A quick look at your watch showed you that the kids club was supposed to begin in 5 minutes. At least this was the wakeup call you needed, now finally able to move again, avoiding Heeseungs eyes. You passed him a microphone before getting your own, throwing one quick smile in his direction before you started the show.
Heeseung was right, he actually managed to dance along, this time knowing all the steps. You caught yourself looking in his direction every few seconds, but you couldn't help yourself. He had the biggest smile on his face, eyes wandering from kid to kid, watching them do their little dances. He was so full of joy, full of excitement, giddy every time you had a quick pause between the songs. He was covered in a mix of colorful lights and in that moment you could have sworn you never saw someone as beautiful as him.
And it hit you: you liked him. You liked Heeseung.
After your performance you suddenly felt someone pulling on your leg. It was the little boy from your hike, his eyes full of worry.
"Does it still hurt?" he asked, his finger pointing towards your knee. Oh. You were so distracted watching Heeseung that you hadn't even felt it.
"Not really," you smiled. "It was just a small injury, there's no need to worry."
"It was so scary." The boy looked at you with wide eyes and took in a shaky breath. "I thought you might lose your leg or something. Good thing Hee was there."
"Hee?" You looked at Heeseung. Was there a slight blush on his face? It was probably from exhaustion, after all you had been dancing for 30 minutes.
"The kids call me that," he mumbled, looking down.
"I like it." You two looked at each other, once again unable to look away.
"So are you going to marry Hee now?" the little boy asked, impatiently pulling at your pants again.
"Marry him?" Now it was your turn to blush, your eyes fixated on the little boy.
"He saved you. That means he is your prince, and you are getting married."
"Oh." You didn't know what to say, thoughts running wild. You wished you could see what Heeseungs reaction was, but you were too scared to look. It was ridiculous, but you couldn't help yourself. What if he looked at you in disgust, maybe even enraged that the boy suggested something like that? No, that was stupid. A little boy just told you two to get married, that was a reason to laugh, not to overthink everything.
"Maybe we should get to know each other first."
Relief flooded you as soon as you heard Heeseungs voice, the smile visible in it. You looked quickly up to him, looking away again when you saw his eyes resting on you.
"Exactly. And you should go to your parents now, they're already waiting."
The little boy nodded, running towards his parents, while you hurried to get all the equipment back to the little shed. This was so embarrassing. Why were you so nervous? You'd known Heeseung for 4 days, no one was actually talking about a marriage, it was clear that this was all a joke, so why had you been so scared? You didn't want to marry him, you hadn't even thought about this before.
"Y/n get your act together," you whispered, angry about yourself.
"Are you okay?" You heard Heeseung behind you.
You jerked around, opening your mouth to say something, but your glance fell onto the door. The door that was slowly falling shut - and closed.
"Oh no," he whispered, refusing to turn around. "Please tell me that wasn't the door that-"
"won't open from the inside? I have bad news for you."
He grimaced, trying to press against the door, but to no avail. It didn't open, it didn't even bulge. You weren't surprised though - you had been locked in with Jake on your second day. That was also the day the two of you became best friends.
"Let me call Jay." You raised your eyebrow as Heeseung searched through his pockets. And searched again. And again, until you decided to release him.
"Phones are not allowed on stage, remember? They're in our lockers."
"Shit," he whispered. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay… someone will miss us eventually." You just hoped it wouldn't take until the next morning when Jay discovered you didn't appear for your breakfast duty.
You looked around, sitting down on a pile of thin mattresses. "This could take a while."
Heeseung hesitated for a second, but he sat down next to you, keeping some distance.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled.
"No, don't be. It's like a ritual - it happens at least once to every one of us."
"Did it happen to you before?"
"Yeah." You smiled. "With Jake. It was our second day, he was doing something stupid and suddenly the door fell shut. He had the insane idea to sing loudly until someone would find us… three hours later Jay came because a guest reported a dying cat in the shed."
Heeseung snorted. "That sounds like something Jake would do."
"I hope it doesn't sound like something Hee would do." You turned your head to look at him, and now you could clearly see the soft blush creeping up his face.
"No, I wouldn't." There was a smile spreading on his face too.
"I'm glad."
He looked up, his eyes searching for yours. Not that they had to search for long, since you were already looking at him, completely mesmerized.
"Yeah, me too," he said quietly. The atmosphere shifted. It was… quiet, but also tense. None of you were able to break eye contact. You were frantically searching for a topic to talk about, something to break this silence, and you didn't even notice how Heeseung was coming closer. Until his eyes were right in front of yours. His big, brown eyes, worthy of his Bambi nickname. Eyes you couldn't help but get lost in, fascinated by the way they changed their color whenever a ray of light was falling onto them. You were so focused on his eyes that you didn't even see his hand moving towards your face. You only felt them when he laid it on your cheek, his thumb running over it smoothly. And then his other hand was there too, cupping your face, slowly pulling you closer. "Say no if you don't want it," he whispered, hesitating. You didn't say anything. And then he kissed you.
You held your breath, eyes automatically fluttering shut. Your hands were looking for something to hold onto, grabbing his upper arms, while your lips were softly moving against each other. You got lost in the feeling of his hands on your face, his lips, his eyelashes that were tickling you with every new kiss. When you two broke apart to breathe you left your eyes closed for a second, trying to make sense of the situation. You just kissed Heeseung. Well, technically he kissed you… but you just kissed. The guy you had found annoying a day ago. You kissed!!
"Are you okay?" Heeseungs voice broke your train of thought.
You just nodded, unable to say anything. This was too much to process. Jake told you to work out your feelings first, and here you were just kissing Heeseung without figuring out anything. Right now you didn't even know if you had liked it. In the heat of the moment yes, but now?
"No, you're not," he mumbled, backing off. "I'm sorry if I have done something wrong."
"No!" You almost screamed, both of you flinching. "I'm sorry, I- you didn't do anything wrong. I just need a moment to think."
Heeseung nodded, getting even more distance between you too. You felt so bad. He even asked if it was okay and still you were here, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, making him feel so guilty. You couldn't even really explain what was wrong, you didn't know it yourself. Your breathing sped up again and you could feel tears stinging in your eyes. You couldn't even go somewhere else, bring some distance between you and Heeseung, because you were still locked in that stupid shed.
You suddenly felt arms wrapping around your body, trapping you in a tight hug.
"Tell me if I should let go," Heeseung whispered in your ear. "But whatever it is that eats you up, I hope you can solve it soon."
You probably should tell him to let go, to let you think, but instead you felt yourself melting into the embrace. It made you feel… safe. And somehow it made it easier to think.
"I'm just so confused," you whispered back.
"About what?" He began to draw little circles on your back, and you felt yourself slowly relaxing again.
"You." You let out a humorless laugh. Heeseungs hand froze shortly, before he returned to drawing circles. "I'm sorry, I just-"
"Take your time." But you didn't want to take your time. You wanted to get this out and then hopefully have some sort of magical inspiration that told you what to do.
"Please don't take it personally."
"Oh no." He chuckled. You could feel the soft vibrations, looking up at him. He didn’t look upset at all, more curious, giving you the courage to continue.
"When we first met, the first couple days - god, that sounds so weird, I’ve only known you for a couple days." You took a second to think, Heeseung patiently waiting for you to continue. "I thought you were annoying. Really annoying."
"Ouch." Another chuckle.
"And then you were nice to me." You couldn't stop the shudder going through your body. "Sorry. I- you were nice and that meant I couldn't find you annoying anymore and now I'm having a crisis because I think I might like you but I don't know and this is all so confusing and-"
"Hey." Heeseung stopped your rambling, his fingers hooked under your chin to softly pull it up, his eyes searching for yours. "It's okay."
It took all your strength to not start crying right here and now. You began to feel exhausted.
"Come here." Heeseung slid backwards on the mattress until his back was leaning against the wall, his hands outstretched towards you. You hesitated for a second, before you got closer and leaned against his chest. He slung one of his arms over your shoulder, catching your hand in his. At least one thing you were sure of: you liked this.
"I'm sorry I wasn't nicer in the beginning." You could feel his chest moving with every word, every breath. It made you even more tired.
"No, don't apologize. I was the one who pushed you against the wall. You should find me annoying."
"Aah, that's already forgotten. I… I never really found you annoying."
"You pushed me into a pool."
Heeseungs chuckle made your whole body vibrate. "I'm sorry. I just really hate that nickname. I- it was used against me in school. A lot. So…"
You turned around to face him. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know."
"Of course not, how could you? It's already forgotten."
You nodded, your eyes getting caught on his lips. The lips that you kissed before. The lips that… you felt yourself creeping closer to his face. His eyes were darting between your eyes and your lips. You saw him nervously swallowing - and quickly turned around again, leaning back against his chest. No. You needed to sort this out first.
"So… I don't find you annoying anymore. But I don't know what else I'm feeling because I was quite busy thinking bad about you."
Another chuckle. Was this conversation so funny to him? "I think you’re thinking way too much about this. We've known each other for four days. I'm not even exactly sure myself what I'm feeling. I just know that I like you… and I really liked kissing you."
You groaned. "I'm behaving really embarrassing right now, don't I?"
"I don't think so. You became friends with Jake on the second day, right? So why not have a complete chaos of feelings on day four?"
"I… don't like this."
Heeseung wrapped his arms around you, pulling you closer. "Maybe you would already be deeply in love with me if I hadn't pushed you into that pool."
You turned around again, forcing him to open up the embrace. "Now let's not get too cocky. Who says I'm in love with you?"
"In whose arms are you lying?" He grinned at you. "But… I'm serious. It's completely fine if you're confused. And if you need time to figure it out. Just take it step by step."
You took a deep breath, trying to find your confidence. "What if the next step would be to kiss you?"
The smile that spread on Heeseungs face was even bigger than when he spent time with the children. And this time it was reserved for you only.
~~~
There was a loud knock at the door. You jolted awake, Heeseung behind you stirring. The door slowly opened, revealing…
"Jake!"
"What are you two doing here?" Jake raised an eyebrow, watching you with a smirk on his face.
"You know the door, we got locked in. What are you doing here?" You helped Heeseung up, both of you hurrying towards the door before it might close again.
"I just came back from my date and wondered why there was still light in the shed. You two had fun?" You threw a glance in his direction, threatening him to stop talking. But his smirk only got wider.
"We were locked in," Heeseung shrugged, before he turned towards you. "I'll see you tomorrow?"
You tried to suppress the panic rising inside you, but apparently not good enough, because Heeseung smiled reassuringly. "For our shift together?"
"Oh! Yes, of course. See you tomorrow."
He hurried out of the shed and towards the main building, you and Jake walking behind him at a slower pace.
"So you figured out your feelings?" Jake asked, his eyes focused on you.
"I think I'm getting there," you smiled. "But now I really need time for myself. And more importantly, how was your date?"
With the gigantic grin on his face you almost didn't need an answer - but you knew Jake long enough to know that he had only waited for that question, impatient to tell you everything. Since it was already late you decided to throw a spontaneous sleepover party, staying over at Jakes room. It was almost 3am when his rambling was disturbed by a loud yawn. You had watched him with a smile on your face, but now you couldn't stop yourself from yawning too.
"Maybe we should go to sleep," Jake said, his voice sounding like he was already sleeping.
"Good idea. I have to get up early tomorrow - today."
Jake nodded, turning towards you. "I've been talking so much we didn't even get to talk about Heeseung."
You looked at him, desperately trying to stay awake a bit longer. "You have more exciting news anyways. We can talk about this tomorrow - when we're both more awake."
He nodded, eyes slowly closing. "Sounds like a plan."
"And Jake?"
"Hmm?"
"I'm really happy that today went so well for you."
"Me too." His voice was slurred, and you heard his breathing getting slower. When you looked over he was already asleep - with a small smile on his face.
You were so tired, the need to sleep almost overwhelming, but you couldn't. Your mind was still running in circles, trying to process today's events. At least now there were some things you were sure of: 1. you didn't find him annoying anymore and 2. you had kissed him, more than once, and you liked it. Right now you were just worried that this was it. What if you only liked the kissing and not really him? What if this went way too fast? What if-
"Just take it step by step," you could hear Heeseungs voice in your head. You took a deep breath, trying to calm down. He was right. You didn't have to know all those things right now. You had more than enough time to figure everything out.
With those thoughts it was easier to fall asleep, and you felt your eyes closing, your head falling to the side. You felt asleep with the image of Heeseung in front of you - not that you were surprised.
~~~
Your breakfast shift was hell, you spent the whole time trying not fall asleep. Thankfully you felt more awake a few hours later when you got ready for your next shift. If it was because of the sun shining bright, the three cups of coffee or the fact that your shift was with Heeseung you didn't know, but you were thankful for that. Falling asleep while teaching kids water gymnastics didn't sound like fun - falling asleep in front of Heeseung didn't either.
You arrived first, hesitating in the doorstep of the shed. You weren't really keen to get locked in again.
"I'll watch the evil door so it'll stay open," you heard a voice behind you. You jerked around and came face to face with Heeseung, who was holding the door open.
"Hi."
"Hi." You couldn't stop the smile from spreading on your face, and you were sure that the blush on Heeseungs cheeks was also on your own. You stood there for a while, both unsure what to say.
"Let me- I'll actually hold the door," Heeseung declared, holding the door wide open for you.
"Oh, you don't want to get locked in again?" you teased, getting the first few swimming noodles. His face got even redder.
"I enjoyed our… talk yesterday. But I would prefer it if we could repeat that without being locked in."
You froze, staring at him with wide eyes. "You want to repeat it?"
"Yes? I don't know, do you not? I…"
You threw a look at the big clock on the side of the building. There were still 30 minutes left until the class started. You got the rest of the swimming noodles, grabbing Heeseungs wrist with your free hand and pulling him behind you. You sat down on a lounger, motioning for Heeseung to do the same.
"I was thinking."
"Oh."
"No, I- it's nothing bad." You had to laugh when you saw the nervous look on his face. "I want to take things step by step. I like you, I just don't know in what way yet. But I like talking to you. And… ilikedkissingyou so if it's okay for you I would like to take things slow and see where it leads?"
Heeseungs nervousness was instantly replaced by a wide smile, his eyes shining with happiness. "I would like that very much. But speaking of slow… can you repeat the middle part again?"
You rolled your eyes. "I said I like talking to you."
"Mhm… and the thing you said after?"
"I would like to take things slow?"
"Very funny." He stood up, pulling you with him until you stood right in front of him. His hands intertwined behind your back, trapping you.
"I'm okay with taking things slow," he whispered. "As long as that means I get to kiss you again."
Now it was your turn to smile, your glance wandering downwards to his mouth. Instead of an answer you overcame the distance, pressing your lips on his. You felt him smile into the kiss, you doing the same.
"So you are getting married!" The shout made you almost jump apart. It was the little boy, an accusatory finger pointing at you two. "I knew it! You kept it a secret!"
Your eyes switched between Heeseung and the little boy, not knowing what to say. If he shouted even louder the whole camp would know about you two - the end of 'taking it slow'. You had to do something, but what?
"We did," Heeseung said in that moment. "And you have to help us. Can you do that?"
The little boy nodded proudly, his hands pressed to his hips. "Of course I can!"
"Great." Heeseung crouched down to be on eye level with him, a serious look on his face. "Because there are evil people here who don't want us to marry. And we can't let them find out! So it's better not to tell anyone until we find out who they are, you know?"
"Okay!" The boy nodded enthusiastically. "I will protect you y/n, don't worry!"
You grinned at him, nodding yourself. "Thank you."
The boy looked proud - until he saw one of his friends and ran off. Heeseung was walking towards you again.
"Guess I saved the day," he smiled.
"Thank you." You wrapped one arm around his waist, pulling him closer to give him a quick peck on the cheek. It was adorable, the way his face turned a soft pink every time you kissed or complimented him. Who could blame you for wanting to kiss him as often as you could when this was the result? When his eyes got even wider than usual, seemingly shining on their own? The eyes that you wanted to stare at forever - but you had to entertain some kids.
The water gymnastics went well, everyone had lots of fun. The kids even helped to clean everything up afterwards, which had never happened before, but Heeseung could convince them without any effort. You were in awe.
"Will you continue staring at me or do you want to say something?" Oh. Seemed like you had been staring for a while.
"Don't act like you're not constantly staring at me too." He was blushing again, apparently you were right. Funny how he got from throwing you into a pool to constantly blushing around you. And how you went from pushing him against a wall to - Hmm. You looked at him. He was standing right in front of the pool.
"You did really good today," you smiled, walking towards him.
"Thank you? I had a lot of fun."
"I could see that." You wrapped your arms around him, making him stumble backwards. "I was really impressed." One last step and you let go of him, giving him a little nudge. There was a surprised look on his face, quickly turning into betrayal before his body went underwater.
You crouched down at the end of the pool, trying to suppress your laughter. When Heeseung came up again he looked at you, everything in him screaming revenge.
"No!" You screeched, crawling backwards. But to no avail, Heeseung grabbed your foot, pulling you closer. You tried to convince him to let you go, but both of you were laughing so hard it was difficult to get the words out. Your legs were already under water when he grabbed your hands, pulling you upwards so that you sat on the edge of the pool.
"Maybe I could be convinced to spare you…" He grinned, intertwining your fingers together.
"This is my revenge, shouldn't that be reason enough for you to spare me?"
"Hmm…" He was standing between your legs, looking up at you. "I don't know, I'm not really convinced."
"What a pity." You let your fingers run through his hair, brushing it behind his ear, before they wandered down to his chin, softly pulling it up towards you. He looked up at you, eyes full of anticipation, his lips softly opening. You took a second to take in the sight, before you leaned closer, brushing your lips together. You felt him smile again, his hands moving to your hips, pulling you closer - pulling you down. You gasped when you suddenly felt water surrounding you, before Heeseungs arms pulled you back to the surface.
"I'm sorry." He didn’t look sorry at all, giggling loudly. But how could you be mad at him when he hooked his hands behind your back, pulling you closer and kissing you again. You leaned your head against his chest, your arms wrapped around his back too.
"Let's just stay here for a while," you mumbled, not wanting to let go. But there were shivers running through your body, the water getting cold now that you weren't moving anymore.
"I don't think we should, I don't want you to get sick."
"Hmm… but we won't see each other tomorrow, we don't have a shift together."
You could feel him laughing, pressing you closer together. "That doesn't mean we won't see each other, does it?"
He was right, but that was not the point. You wouldn't see him dealing with the children, you wouldn't see pure happiness radiating off of him, but you didn't want to tell him that. There was another shiver going through your body, and Heeseung softly pulled away from you.
"We really should get out of the water." You just nodded, accepting his help to get out of the pool. You even froze outside of the water, but that was nothing a hot shower couldn't fix.
"Heeseung?"
"Yes?" He turned around, eyes resting on you.
"There's a little open-air movie screening tomorrow. Do you maybe want to go there with me?"
"I would love to."
You nodded, a wide smile on your face, and finally went towards your room for the much needed shower.
~~~
The next day was incredibly boring, but you were not surprised. You loved your other colleagues, but you had barely talked to the ones you had your shifts with before. And you missed Heeseung and his excitement. But now it was evening, and you were getting ready for your date. Well, it wasn't exactly a date, but it was a special occasion. There was an open-air movie screening every friday, some sort of last goodbye before the guests would leave on saturday. It was fun, especially since the employees were welcome to join too, as long as they didn't have to work.
Right now, however, it was not fun at all. You stood in front of your closet, trying to find something nice to wear in between all of your work clothes. You had already sent an emergency text to Jake, begging him to come as soon as he got off work. And there it was, the relieving knock on your door.
"Come in!"
The door opened and Jake pushed his head through, grinning at you. "You need my help?"
"I don't know what to wear," you groaned, pointing helplessly at the closet, your biggest enemy right now.
"You never cared about that before, why… no!"
Jakes scream startled you, the pile of clothes in your hands falling to the floor. "You're going with Heeseung!"
"Can you stop screaming for a second," you hissed, pulling Jake fully into the room and closing the door. "Yes, I'm going with Heeseung. And now stop smirking!"
"But how? When? I'm so out of the loop," he groaned and let himself fall onto your bed.
"Maybe that's because you were too busy flirting with a certain new colleague…" You let yourself fall next to him, but were jumping up the next second, going back to search through your closet.
"I'm sorry about that." You turned around again when you heard Jakes serious voice.
"Hey no, I didn't mean it as a bad thing! I know you're always here for me, you're allowed to spend time with others."
"I know, but now I missed all the news about you and Heeseung! Good thing we have more than enough time now."
You laughed, taking your attention back to your closet. "There isn’t any news, really. I talked to him, and we decided to figure out our feelings together and take things slow."
"Hello?" Jake looked at you as if you just told him the world was ending tomorrow. "Those are news."
"Okay, I'm sorry. Can you help me pick out something to wear first?"
"Good thing I can multitask. Now start talking."
"Fine," you groaned. You explained all to him, from the night in the shed to yesterday's events at the pool, occasionally interrupted by exaggerated gasps or fashion advice. In the end you had a widely grinning Jake and an outfit with which both of you were happy.
"Next time make sure to run to me right away!" he whined, an accusatory look on his face. "I really missed a lot. And the kissing?? Emma and I kissed once, on the cheek. And you said you weren't sure about your feelings and had a full make out session in the pool! Life is truly unfair."
You felt heat creeping in your cheeks. "It wasn't a make out session. And besides, maybe your fate will change tonight. You are going with Emma, right?"
"You bet I am." The smile on his face appeared in seconds. "And we actually do call it a date."
"Well, I don't. But you should probably hurry if you don't want to be late." You couldn't even fully finish your sentence before Jake was jumping up and bolting out of your door. You shook your head, grabbed your bag and left the room - in a normal pace. Okay, maybe you did hurry a bit, but you were meeting Heeseung in 10 minutes and you hoped that he might arrive a bit sooner too.
He didn't, but he arrived just in time, his hands filled with a basket and a big blanket.
"Hey," he smiled. "I didn't really know what to expect so I just prepared for… well… everything." He was nervous. He tried not to show it, but he was talking fast, eyes moving around but not really settling on you.
"I like it. We should probably find a good spot now before they're all gone."
Heeseung nodded, following behind you while you searched for a good space. You quickly found one, under a nice tree that shielded you from the wind and provided a bit of privacy - even though you didn't think Heeseung would mind of anyone saw that you were here together. You sat down on the blanket he brought, getting comfortable.
"How was work today?" You regretted that question as soon as you asked it. What kind of boring topic was that?
"It was good." Silence washed over you once again, both too nervous to say or do anything. You were praying that the movie would start soon, that you had something to focus on, something else than this crushing silence.
"I brought food." Heeseungs voice was so quiet you almost couldn't hear it with all the other sounds around you, more and more people coming by.
"Oh? What kind of food?"
Heeseung grabbed the basket, placing it in the middle of you. "I might have bribed someone from the kitchen…"
At first you thought he was joking, but then he began to take more and more food out of the basket. Your first instinct was to worry about how you were supposed to eat all of it, but that thought quickly disappeared. There were so many people around you could share it with. And it was really charming how much effort Heeseung had put into it.
"You brought all of this just for me?"
He smiled at you. "I didn't know what you liked so I just brought a bit of everything."
"This really feels like a date." You froze. Did you actually just say that? And to his face too?
"Would you want this to be a date?" Heeseung paused, turning towards you.
You hesitated, trying to collect your thoughts first. Did you want it to be a date? Were you ready to call this a date? The longer you thought about this the more convinced you were that the answer was a yes. "I would. I mean, if you don't mind… I wouldn't mind."
Heeseung started to smile again. "I would too. And not just because I don't know how I could ever top this."
You had to laugh, Heeseung joining in, the situation becoming less tense now that the elephant in the room had been addressed. He had really gone all out. There were various types of fruits and vegetables, little pieces of cake, even street food. You decided to try some vegetables first, leaving the fruit and cake for later.
"So, who do you know in the kitchen who made this happen?"
"That will be my little secret." He grinned before plopping a cucumber into his mouth.
"Oh, are you trying to make me jealous?"
"Please," he huffed, "if I wouldn't know that Jake had a date on his own, I would be the one to be jealous."
You froze, looking at him. "You would?"
There it was again, the blush creeping up Heeseungs cheeks. Did you already mention how much you loved it?
"I would," he whispered.
You placed your hand over his, squeezing it tight. "You wouldn't have to be even if he didn't date anyone." The blush turned an even darker red. You smirked before continuing to eat.
The movie started, it was about twins meeting at a camp without knowing they were twins, and you and Heeseung redirected your attention towards it. After a while you laid down, too full to eat more. Heeseung seemed to think the same, because he put everything back in the basket and set it on the side before lying down next to you. You felt the heat radiating from his body, but you didn't dare to move. Your eyes were wandering between the screen and Heeseung next to you. This was ridiculous. You had kissed a couple times already and now you were nervous that you might touch him. You were surprised that Heeseung didn't say anything about your heartbeat, sounding so loud that he surely heard it too. When you felt him moving next to you you froze even more, which made him stop. You saw him turning his head, eyes searching for yours.
"Is it okay if I take your hand?" he whispered.
You nodded. Somehow it made you less nervous when you knew what was happening, and you were grateful that he had asked. When he took your hand and intertwined them together you felt your heartbeat calming down, the nervous feeling slowly disappearing. You felt calm, and you liked the feeling of his hand in yours.
There was maybe half an hour of the movie left when you felt yourself getting tired. You weren't able to suppress the yawns anymore, Heeseung looking over at you with a smile.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm just tired," you whispered.
He nodded and let go of your hand, instead motioning you to come closer. You let your head rest on his chest, your arm wrapped around his waist. His hand was slowly running through your hair. It didn't take long for you to fall into a light sleep, the movie only becoming a background noise.
When you woke up again the movie was over and the first people started to leave.
"Noo, I missed the ending?" you yawned, sitting up and stretching your body.
"You did but it wasn't very surprising. The parents got back together."
"It is a kids movie after all," you responded. "They need to have a happy ending."
"That's true." Heeseungs eyes were focused on you. "Now, I was actually going to suggest that we could go down to the beach and enjoy the waves for a while… but I think you really need to sleep."
"Oh no, I would love that!" You pouted, but it was quickly replaced by another yawn. "I can stay awake!"
"I don't think so, y/n." Your head whipped towards him. That was the first time he had used your name. You loved it, the way he said your name, how he pronounced it with so much adoration.
"What…?"
You had to laugh when you saw the look on his face. "Nothing! It's just the first time you called me y/n."
"Oh… I can call you something else if you want. Like… Feline."
You just stared at him, speechless. "What."
He sat up, like he was getting ready for a whole lecture. Oh no. "You know, Feline! The female deer Bambi likes?"
"Feline. Her name was Feline?"
"Ye-"
"Wait a minute, did you just say you like me?"
Heeseung couldn't help but chuckle. "Oh, wasn't that clear already? Well, in that case," he took a deep breath. "I like you, y/n. I really like you."
You felt like your heart was exploding. He liked you. He liked you! You didn't really know how to react, your brain shutting down. It was just screaming 'Heeseung likes you' over and over again.
"I'm sorry, that isn't exactly 'taking it slow', is it."
"I like you too," you blurted out, surprised by yourself.
"Really?" There was a nervous look on Heeseungs face. "I don't want you to feel pressured into saying it."
"No!" You took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "I think I - no, I know that I really, really like you."
By the look on Heeseungs face it seemed like his brain was shutting down now, making you grin. You took his face into your hands, your eyes looking at his. "I like you, Heeseung." And then you kissed him. The kiss was as soft as the ones before, but something had changed. It had a deeper meaning now, conveying all your feelings now that you both had said them out loud. And a look into the others eyes showed all the thoughts that were running through your heads, both of you not trying to hide anything in that moment, laying your feelings bare.
~~~
On the next day you and your colleagues had to throw one last goodbye party for all the kids that were leaving with their families on this day, which meant you were too busy to talk to Heeseung. Which also meant that you were more than happy when he suddenly stood in the hallway in front of your room, asking if you wanted to spend your day with him.
Now that most families were leaving you had the beach almost to yourselves. Heeseung had brought the food that you left over from the night before, mostly cake and fruits, which you now ate together.
"So about yesterday," you started.
Heeseung looked up from the piece of strawberry he was just about to eat, slight worry visible on his face. "Are you already regretting saying that you like me?" He said it like a joke, but there was a piece of seriousness in it too.
"No! That's not what I want to talk about. Not directly. I- please don't call me Feline."
His eyes widened in shock, staring at you for a few seconds, before his whole body relaxed into a laughing fit. "This is what's bothering you? Y/n I'm not going to call you Feline, that was a joke."
"Oh." You felt relief wash over you but at the same time you felt incredibly stupid. Of course it was just a joke. "Good." He was still laughing, but it didn't feel like he was laughing at you.
"Guess that means your Bambi era will be over too. So what about Hee?"
The laughing instantly stopped, like his breath got caught in his throat.
"Hee it is," you grinned. He was still stunned, looking at you with his big eyes, that you couldn't resist to press a quick kiss on his lips. When you tried to pull away you felt his hand in your hair, pulling you back towards him, your lips connecting once again. You couldn't hide your smile, causing Heeseung to deepen the kiss.
"You taste like strawberry," you whispered against his lips. "I like it."
"I could get used to this." He was whispering too, your lips brushing softly against each other.
"You better because I don't plan to stop any time soon." You pulled him into another kiss. Secretly you were wondering how you didn't grow used to or tired of kissing him, but every single one felt just like the first, causing sparks to explode inside you.
You had to break apart eventually, laying down in the same position as yesterday, your head on his chest, his hand in your hair, listening to the sound of the waves. You felt yourself slowly drifting off to sleep, but you tried to force yourself to stay awake, not wanting to lose time together with Heeseung. You turned around, now facing Heeseung instead of the beach. You tried not to get stuck on his lips, your glance wandering over his nose (that you really wanted to boop one day) to his beautiful eyes, that you realized were watching you too.
"You're beautiful."
You wished you could take a mental picture of Heeseung blushing to look at whenever you felt down. For you it was the most beautiful picture in the world.
"Heeseung?"
"Hmm?"
"I know we were saying to take it slow… but I think I am beginning to fall in love with you."
His face lit up, his bright smile all you could see when he looked down on you. "I've started to fall in love ever since I saw you."
You turned onto your stomach, your elbows supporting the rest of your body so your face was right above his, grinning down on him. One quick look into his eyes, and your lips were onto his again. He sat up, one hair tangled in your hair. You mimicked his motion, your legs left and right from his, one hand on his chin and the other tangled in his hair as well. One of his hands wandered to your hips, holding you tight while the kiss got deeper, none of you wanting to let go of the other. But you took it slow. You had all the time in the world, after all.
Watched Moon Knight for the 60th time
I noticed some similarities the Moon Knight system has with both Poe and Rey from Star Wars.
Let's start with Marc and Poe:
-Both Poe and Marc ran away from home at 16/17 (Marc was WAY more justified, but still)
-Both joined shady groups (Poe, the Spice Runners of Kijimi, Marc, Bushman's mercenary gang)
-Both were left for dead in a desert
-Both have a high kill count (but so do a lot of fictional characters, actually...)
-Both went on "fetch quests" and ended up losing the thing they were questing for (The map to Skywalker in TFA and the Wayfinder in TROS/the scarab leading to Ammit's tomb)
-Both have similar witty banter ("So who talks first?"/"What are dancin'? We fightin'? What are we doin'?")
-Both are badass drivers (Well, pilot in Poe's case)
-Both kept secrets from their friends because they were ashamed of it.
-Both have issues with jealousy (Poe with Zorii in Free Fall, BB-8 and Leia in the ST [Rey "stole" his droid and his mentor]/Marc with Layla)
-A little dark, but... both were indirectly responsible for the death of a family member (Poe ran away from home, his father, Kes tracked him down and he ended up bitten by a poisonous alien creature. We still don't know if he's alive, but still... And Marc brought his brother into a rainy cave where he drowned)
-Both tried to rescue prisoners of their respective gangs, but were sliced up/shot (Poe in Free Fall, Marc in his backstory)
-Both tried and failed to convince their respective higher powers of threats (Poe tried to convince the New Republic that the First Order is a threat, Marc tried to convince the Egyptian Ennead that Harrow is trying to release Ammit)
-Their love interests (Past love interest in Poe's case) have a family friend who is a bit on the criminal side (Layla has Lagardo who is a forger, Zorii has Babu Frik who is a black market droidsmith)
Poe and Steven:
-Both dealt with a bad boss (Holdo/Donna)
-Both kept messing up their comrade's respective missions because they weren't told everything
-Both...ah...were "mind raped" by their respective villains (Well, Poe was. Steven's scales were read by Harrow)
-Then Steven was kidnapped and questioned about the MacGuffin by the same villain like Poe was
I don't know enough about Jake to make any similarities.
Poe even has a few things in common with Layla:
-They both want to follow in their late parents' footsteps (Rebel pilot/archeologist)
-Both were calm and helpful when their friends couldn't figure out an escape plan (Steven in Summon the Suit when they barracaded themselves in a room in Harrow's cult lair/Rey in the short story Through the Turbulence in Stories of Jedi and Sith)
-Both made badass rescues of their friends from the bad guys (Layla in Summon the Suit, Poe in TROS)
-Both made friends with (Well, I assume Marc and Layla were friends before they got married) people who have ties with people responsible for their parents' death (Marc worked for Bushman who killed Layla's father. Rey (who hadn't even been born yet, but still) was Palpatine's granddaughter. Poe's mom fought the Empire as a pilot. She eventually developed bloodburn and died of it)
-Both went to their old shady friends for help against the big bad which ended badly (Layla reached out to Mogart, an artifact thief which lead to an all-out battle. Poe reached out to Zorii, which lead to her wanting to turn Rey in to the First Order for a bounty, then her planet was destroyed.)
Rey and Marc:
-Both wear white hoods (Marc's Moon Knight suit, Rey's outfit in TROS)
-Really minor, but, both caught red pieces of fabrics and had shocked looks on their faces (Rey caught a marker ribbon and was suddenly struck by a vision, the teen cultist Marc was holding over a ledge cut his scarf that Marc was holding and threw himself off).
-Both had connections with people they hate, but they eventually helped them. (Rey had a dyad connection with Kylo/Marc was Khonshu's avatar)
-Both have secrets they're ashamed of (Marc blames himself for his brother's death and his mother abused him, Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter)
-Both ran out on their friends because of their shameful past and because their mother-figure died (Marc ran out on Layla and Frenchie because of Khonshu after his mother died, Rey left her friends because she's a Palpatine after Leia her mother figure dies)
-They were killed by evil cult leaders (Harrow shoots Marc dead and Rey defends herself against Palpatine and is killed)
-Both returned to life and healed with help from people they hated and had connections to (Khonshu healed Marc when he returned to life, Ben gave up his life force for Rey)
-Both engage in a beam-of-war with evil cult leaders (Rey deflected Palpatine's lightning with by crossing two lightsabers, Marc deflected Harrow's...uh...beam with his arms crossed.)
-While engaged in battle, their friends rush to help, but they both push their friends back (Finn rushes to help Rey while she's fighting with Kylo but Rey force-pushes him back/Layla rushes to help Marc with his beam-of-war with Harrow, but Marc pins her to an overturned car with one of his crescent darts)
-Both have golden weapons (Marc's crescent darts, Rey's golden yellow lightsaber, which she didn't get until the end of TROS, but still)
-Palpatine drained most of Rey's life force which was painful for her, Harrow starts to disintegrate Marc, which was painful for him.
-Both were forced to face their pasts by their enemies (Marc by Dr. Harrow and Rey by Kylo)
-Both looked helplessly up at the losing battle (Marc looked helplessly at Ammit defeating Khonshu and Layla under fire. Rey looked helpless at Palptatine shooting lightning at the Resistance fleet)
-Both have a surprising twist at the end having to do with a new name ("Meet my friend, Jake Lockley." (Marc's third alter), "Rey Skywalker.")
Rey and Steven:
-We see their daily routines when we first meet them.
-They have friendless backgrounds
-They have bad bosses
-Their lives were upended and they were dragged into the main conflict
-They stole a vehicle and were chased by the bad guys (and the owners of said vehicles run after them yelling "That's mine!")
-Companions of one of their co-leads find them (BB-8/Layla)
-They have connections with someone they hate (Kylo Ren/Marc)
-They cope by pretending (Steven pretends his mother is alive and they have a good relationship/Rey pretends that her parents are still alive and are coming back to her)
-They are both frozen at one point (Rey was frozen in place by Kylo, Steven was frozen in sand)
-They are both kidnapped and interrogated about the MacGuffin (Rey and the map to Skywalker and Steven and the scarab)
-They are both encouraged to use their respective powers, but can't (Poe encourages Rey to use the force when she had trouble accessing it in Through the Turbulence, Steven... well, Layla think's he's Marc, still, but she encourages him to summon the suit.
-They both use their friends' advice to channel their skills to help said friend who's in danger. (Rey takes Poe's advice to channel the force to save him from giant aliens in Through the Turbulence, and Steven channels Marc's skills in order to save him from the dead in the Duat)
-They both figure out how to get to the MacGuffin by studying ancient text (Rey with the ancient Jedi text and Steven with his Egyptology books)
-Both have arguments with their co-leads (Steven and Marc and Rey and Poe)
-"Huh. I like this." (Said by Steven in Summon the Suit)/"Whoo! I like this!" (Said by Rey in The Last Jedi)
-They were both killed by an evil cult leader (Rey by Palpatine [sort of] and Steven by Harrow)
-Their co-leads get mad at them for "Stealing" their companions (Poe is mad Rey stole BB-8 [in Through the Turbulence], Marc is mad at Steven for kissing his wife)
-They are both forced to face the truth about their pasts (Rey by Kylo and Steven by Harrow)
-They learn horrible truths about their families (Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter and Steven's mother was abusive to Marc)
-They both accept their connection with the person they hate and fight side-by-side with them. (Rey accepts her dyad connection with Ben and force-transfers a lightsaber to Ben and Steven accepts he's an alter and fights alongside Marc switching out occasionally)
-They are both "very British" (They have British accents and all)
-Both their journeys came full circle (Rey slides down a sand hill on a desert planet, Steven wakes up to "A Man Without Love" playing.)
-There's a twist that has to do with their name ("Rey Skywalker"/"Jake Lockley" (Steven's third alter))
Finn and Marc:
-Both rescued prisoners from their respective evil gangs (Poe from the First Order, the archeologists from Bushman) and they ended up dead (Poe was thought to be dead)
Finn and Steven:
-Both dealt with mean girl bosses (Phasma and Donna)
-Both tried to get away from their co-leads' mission (Steven tried to run from the Scarab mission and Finn tried to run from the Resistance)
-Both developed a strong attachment to their female leads (Finn and Rey/Steven and Layla)
-Both lose their trust in their companion because he kept a dark secret from him about their criminal past. (Steven doesn't trust Marc because of his mercenary past and he slightly mocks him about the room full of dead people being Marc's room. Finn mocks Poe about his spice runner past)
Finn and Layla:
-They both rushed after their friend to help them in battle but were forced away by them (Finn goes after Rey who was fighting Kylo, but Rey force-pushes him away. Layla rushes to help Marc when he was fighting Harrow, but Marc pins her against an overturned car with his crescent darts)
-They're both extremely protective of their friends (husband in Layla's case)
-They channel the same power their love interest/friend has and it helps them win the day. (Layla accepts being Taweret's avatar, Finn uses the Force)
Whoo! That was long and took half the day!
There was also a C-3PO vibe from Steven ("Oh. Sorry." Said when he fronted as Mr. Knight during the battle at Mogart's in ep3) and a K-2SO vibe from Marc ("Doesn't sound bad to me.")
The Heist -- chapter 27
Authors note: this is my second fan fiction that I have been part of. I appreciate all of the excellent writers that have allowed my to participate in this. I hope I didn't let this story down.
Warnings: language
His arms are around me before the door clicks.
We fold into each other instinctively. He holds me for a few seconds. Neither of us move. I am so happy he wasn't hurt. I can't let him go, not now. Not after promises of a life that is shared with him.
One arm releases my waist as he gently runs his other hand through my hair to check for injuries. His face is a mixture of concern and absolute love. I assume mine looks much the same.
“How are you feeling?’ He whispers softly, apparently satisfied that I will recover.
I gently place my hand on his cheek, "I am fine, Jake.” I smile and lean in for a kiss. It was going to be a reassuring peck on the cheek, but his eyes darken and he pulls me close to him leaving no space between us. Desire begins to grow in both of us as his tongue explores my mouth. My arms wrap around his neck tighter as his lips move ever so slowly from my mouth to my neck, driving me crazy. His tongue grazes my collarbone sending chills down my spine.
A moan sneaks its way from deep in my throat. He pulls his face away, but one hand drops. It finds its way to my ass and stays there. Our lips meet again, though this time was a crashing of faces and an uncontrolled grasping and searching for any way to be closer. What has made him so bold in this moment?
"Fuck, MC, I thought that I had lost you," he says, his voice shaking. "That can't happen." He hugged me tight again. I'm still trying catch my breath from that kiss and now he is holding me so tight that I can barely breathe. Yet I refuse to move because I feel so safe in his arms.
“When he sent that message to me, the one that said he was going to hurt you, I had to come immediately. Master isn’t someone that you take a gamble on. If he says he will hurt you, he will hurt you. Don’t ever doubt that he is a man that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. I was so afraid I wouldn't get there in time. You were passed out when I got here. I can not explain the terror that I felt." As he speaks, his free hand runs through his hair.
Maybe I could imagine a little. I was terrified when I couldn't find or save Jake. I was terrified when he was in the caves. I was terrified when he drove off in the car.
He backs up and takes one more kiss, this one gentle and sweet. "He was right, you know. You are my weakness." He squeezes my ass before letting go. He winks at me while moving to take my hands in his. His eyes never waver from mine. “You are the most important thing to me. I will do whatever it takes too keep you safe. This may include taking Master up on his offer for freedom.”
“But what about the FBI and Christopher, Kyle, and James? They have done so much to save us. Don’t you trust them?” I question.
"We made a deal with the FBI. I feel like we would be betraying them if we didn’t go with their plan. If we do go with it, we would be free and he would be behind bars. We would be safe.” I plead.
“ I trust you. Only you.” He admits.
"I don’t know that we would be," he says while brushing hair off of my face with his hand. "I mean, what if they aren't happy with the way we bring him in. What if he finds a way to escape? We will never be this close to him again. This is our only chance. I am also not exactly sure that Master wouldn't come back for us later," Jake says.
He does have a point. I lean my head onto his shoulder. He runs his hand though my hair and we sit in silence for a moment both lost in our thoughts. As if he is afraid to lose contact, he reaches for my hand and kisses the inside of my palm.
“I really don’t know that we would be safe," he continues, "though that is the outcome I desire. Master has people everywhere. I also don’t know what he has on that disc. We could be framed for all of the crimes that he has committed. I said that he is a man that he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants." He hangs his head.
"You know him best. I trust whatever you say" I tell him. I want him to know that we are in this together, partners to the end. I bend down to meet his gaze.
“Look, I haven’t done the things he accused me of, but I haven’t always been innocent." He begins to share his thoughts with me. "I haven’t always taken the higher road and made the best choices. Master is cruel and lacks a moral compass. He deserves to be caught. He needs to be shut down. I just dont trust that he will let us turn him in without consequences to our freedom. I will not have you suffer at his hands. I feel as though he has a trick up his sleeve." He stops.
"However much I admire the men who worked to get us to this place and I trust Christopher to do right by us. I only have one priority, to keep you safe. I feel like either of these decisions is precarious. I know that if we betray the FBI we will be criminals and we will be running from them forever. Master can keep us safe, but not forever and maybe not the kind of freedom that we are looking for. I want to be with you, MC. I want a future that allows me to take you places and walk hand in hand without fear. The FBI promises that, but who says that we can turn him in and they don't find a way to break our agreement? There is just so much at stake here. Your life, your future, our future is hanging in the balance." Jake stands. He is pacing now. The weight of this decision is weighing on him.
Suddenly, he spins me around to sit me in his lap, his arms tighten around my waist. He smells good--distinctly Jake. A bit of woods and danger, if you could put a smell to that. I can see the stress on his face and I begin to rub his back, trying to calm him.
“If you weren’t with me," he begins again. I feel privileged to know his thoughts. "I would probably take my chances with Master because the police have never been on my side, but I want you to be safe and happy and free. I believe in Christopher because you do and I trust your judgement. I believe good things can happen because I met you. I believe that we can have a future and a wonderful life. We just have to figure this..."
I interrupt him with a kiss. How can he be so willing to give up everything for me? Despite the danger we are in, I can't ignore how lucky I am to have him. Deepening the kiss, his hands slide up the skirt that I saw him eyeing earlier. My hand manages to find its way up the edge of his shirt and my skin is on fire. He moans this time and a shiver escapes my body. His fingers begin to dig into my thigh while I can feel his lips tracing the skin from my neck to that soft place between my breasts.
I am jello. My knees are shaking and my body vibrates. Everything inside me loves him and wants to share this love with him. There has to be a way that can save us so that these stolen moments aren't stolen. We have to find a way to be free for the kind of life that he deserves.
“I’ve got it!” I yell and he pauses. He jumps and his hands move to my hips. This time he is trying to catch his breath.
"What do you mean, you’ve got it? And right now? I thought we were in the middle of something." He says, his voice low and deep.
"Oh, we were, but I am trying to create a lifetime of moments that we can share... and.. you inspired me." I say with a little smile, standing and trying to straighten my skirt.
He is pouting. I bite the bottom of his lips and tease him a little. "I am trying to find a way to our freedom so we can do more of this, a lot more of this." He starts back with those lovely kisses that crinkle my toes.
“You are quite the tease." He says and smiles at me slowly removing his hands from my hips. Taking a deep breath, he returns to the logical Jake that I am used to.
"What is your plan? I can not wait to hear it." His eyes are gentle as they look into mine.
"What if we help Mark fake his death? We can please the FBI and Mark won't be coming after us. I think this would give him his freedom and give the FBI the solution that they were looking for. Just maybe we could be free to be together without having to look over our shoulders."
“Miss Davis, my little genius," he says, looking at me with a flash of hope in his eyes. “If we can convince Master to agree to the plan and if we can manage to dupe the FBI, maybe..."
Jake stops mid-thought as the door swings open.
He whispers in my ear, "Please be quiet and let me do the talking." I nod but secretly hope that I can keep my end of the bargain.
Summary: One of the four Strider brothers accidently says something he assumes he'll regret during dinner.
Warnings: Swearing, dead parent, long distance children, check tags for further warnings.
Authors note: Alpha Dave is referred to as Delta in this fic so I could differ easier while writing it and Dave kind of stims? I guess, I don't really know though, so, let me know in the tags I guess.
He didn't mean to mutter it at dinner, he really didn't, but such words past his lips.
And his three brothers all shared stares in his direction.
"W... What did you just say?" Bro asked, he was the oldest, seventeen, and by far, going through some shit, but despite that he was still trying to be the best oldest brother he could with their father never around and mom dead, he felt like Ness from Earthbound.
"Nothing." Delta responded swiftly, he was the middle child, fifteen, he was hitting a bit of a rough patch with his friends and other relationships in his life, he was still trying to be a good impression on his other siblings despite proper guidance and managing.
"Yeah Delta." Dave started smugly, he was one of the youngest two, thirteen, he was by far in the best condition out of all his family even though he had nothing, no privacy, no life and no friends but the smiling logo on the old dutch ketchup chip bag.
"What did you say?" Dirk added on, he was Daves twin, also thirteen, he was doing ok despite the ever growing burden of an unrequited and a yet to be confessed crush on his good friend Jake, he still managed to keep it cool in front of his friends though, barely.
"I said was going to peg Jesus." Delta answered quietly, his face started to heat up, he was totally grounded for that, he was gonna be thrown out, disowned even!
But none of that.
He heard quaint laughter, those staggering short chuckles he hadn't heard in years. He managed to make Bro laugh, when was the last time that happened?
He didn't have time to dwell on that as both Dave and Dirk where caught in laughter as well, he promptly joined.
It was a short burst of joy between the Striders, their lives full of so much chaos already, it felt so nice. Even though it was so short, it was still amazing, it almost had Bro banging his fist on the table, it had Dirk doing that, Dave thumped his foot a few times. Delta was shocked he could get away with saying that and make his brothers laugh, honestly, double slay.
"Ok, so, Delta, I hope on moms grave you aren't saying that sorta shit at school." Bro said before taking a long relieved breath, his entire form relaxed as well, like months of tension unbound in an instant.
"I promise I'm not, it just kind of, fell out of my mouth, you know, eating Olive Garden, talking BS, couldn't control it." Delta explained, although his explanation wasn't the best, everyone at the table got his point.
"Feel you on that Delta, I end up typing stuff like that all the time to John and Karkat." Dave said, he had to refrain from letting his foot thump again as the moment of laughter had passed.
"Same here, although Gamzees spouting that sort of shit nonstop anyways, so it sorta rubbed off." Dirk stated with a nod.
"Looking over the fact you would peg jesus, lets try and get back to the conversation at hand," Bro said, cracking a small grin when he stated what Delta had proclaimed. "Are any of you failing in any subjects?
"Math." All three younger Striders stated in synchronization, Bro released a long groan as he placed his head in his hands.
"Why couldn't you suck at science or language arts instead?" Bro muttered under his breath.
"I'm just not really getting geometry stuff, whatever that spatial awareness type thing is called, same with Dirk." Dave said, Dirk nodded in agreement.
"Ok, that I can help you with." Bro said before giving a questioning gaze to Delta who tensed.
"Promise you won't ground me, or tell dad?" Delta questioned, reaching for the hem of his hoodie, pinching it between his fingers, stitching was starting to come undone due to years of use.
"I won't." Bro said, his voice sounded lax and he was sincere, everyone could tell by the slight intonation.
"I played hooky throughout all of grade nine with my good friend Rosanne, Rose, whatever you wanna call her, so I learned absolute shit." Delta said, he was speaking swiftly, almost to fast for his brothers to understand, but Bro did, as he had become accustomed to Deltas nervous habits.
"Oh boy, it sure is gonna be fun teaching you grade ten math, and you two, Dirk, Dave, best be prepared to get some facts lodged way up in your pan." Bro said, he internally cringed at calling their heads pans, but, he supposed thats what happens when you spend to much time with trolls.
What a lovely family.
They should get their act together before Bro has to teach Delta how to drive.
New Jeremy talking about Jake article is released. Jeremy Slater: Is he good? Is he evil? We don't know
Jeremy I trusted you wtf. You literally said a month ago that making him evil would be a mistake
Article
Sigh. So. I got a notification for this article yesterday actually and I rolled my eyes at it so hard that I figured I wouldn't even give it my full attention. But I can see that it's started to gain some traction here and a few people have asked me, so I wanna just. Try and squash a little bit of the disappointment if I can.
First off, I should mention that The Direct is starting to make a habit of taking older interviews and portraying them as new, exciting information for headlines. The quotes they take from Jeremy here are actually from an Inverse article dated as May 25th, 2022. Which I mean, is only three weeks ago, but it's definitely not from yesterday. So that's significant.
Anyway, the issue we're all having:
Tumblr media
Again, at face value, I can see how negative this looks because I read it in exactly the same way. It made me angry because this is totally different from what Jeremy said on May 12th. But what made me view it differently was in remembering how we're told the story.
The first few episodes, The Goldfish Problem and Summon the Suit, are almost entirely told from Steven's point of view. He's confused, he's scared, he doesn't know who Marc is, so neither do we. We're meant to feel unsettled because he feels unsettled and we're discovering this whole world alongside him as the audience. And then we get to Asylum, and we see Marc's side of the story from his own memories, but we're watching them through Steven's eyes. We're perceiving a life through someone else.
It's the way Jeremy says, "Marc and Steven are still totally unaware of his existence. We don't necessarily know, is he good? Is he evil?" Because, in reality, we don't know anything about Jake because they don't. Marc and Steven only have glimpses, gaps in time, not really enough to form a solid idea one way or the other, so at this point, we'd question him in the same way. We can make assumptions and form our own interpretations, but in the roots of the story, so can Marc and Steven. And they can be wrong.
Think about it in the way Steven has such a firm idea of what's good, and Marc has the same in what he thinks is bad. It doesn't necessarily mean that their opinions are fact, but they believe they are, and a lot of my Jake Lockley analysis is rooted in the idea that the boys would misunderstand his actions/motives. And not only that, but we have to think of the sentence "and we know he is definitely more on board with Khonshu's worldview in terms of punishing evildoers." We know Khonshu has uh.. not entirely legitimate concepts of justice and vengeance, but why would someone who's "evil," want to "punish evildoers?" If everything about Jake was meant to be seen as corrupt and senselessly destructive, wouldn't he want to just.. let them be? Wouldn't he allow Harrow to keep on killing instead of removing him from the equation for good?
Tumblr media
There, THAT is the line that really did it for me here too. "everything is in service of the greater good." A benevolent force doesn't care about the greater good, that's the whole point. Evil looks at the greater good, laughs in its face and spits on it. The idea is this: is he going to be a friend to Marc and Steven. Is he going to be an enemy to Marc and Steven. That idea of an enemy can be anything that causes conflict in the relationship, whether that be opposing worldviews, clashing morals, etc. A lot of what we know about Jake, which granted is very little, alludes to him having these sorts of conflicts with the boys. They don't know his background or his reasons for doing what he does, but they assume the worst because they're scared. They're confused.
Maybe I'm reading too much into things, and I'm obviously a little bias here, but I find it hard to believe that Jeremy would suddenly change his mind and begin to hold such a.. flat take on Jake as a character. It's boring. And besides, we're talking about the same guy that said this not that long ago:
Tumblr media
There's a big difference between being generic evil and being perceived as evil by those around you, just because they don't have all the information yet. And hopefully someday, we will.
i would do exactly the same, seungmin got bolder in each era now 😭 i can't refrain myself to go around being crazy on how he looked on that outfit and his expressions is so 🔥🔥
once you get close with han i'm sure you had to deal with everything he has in mind 😌
i will if i do have some time (if my uni gives me a break) i saw a few cuts but i don't remember any of them, i have a bad memory though 🥺 i haven't read the webtoon you've showed me though but that character gives me yoshi vibes in jikjin! man that kid deserves a lot of love and i'll wait for you to write something about it 💕
yeah! it's like representing a young love which a couple would spend their date on an amusement park or somewhere fun and take polaroid pictures later, jeez, that kind of feeling though 😭 ahh yes definitely agree with it, wonpil and seungmin can pass as brothers, then there's jake too and then sunghoon and minho really do sound like each other as well 👀 just that they have different personalities.
have you seen the teasers? man everyone looks so good! i can't wait to listen to their new album, it's been a quite while since "i know i love you" though. ahh yes! i started stanning day6 around 2016 i've listened to every song too just like how seungmin does, and yes! they're the most successful mydays and aghases 😭 you should check them out sometime 😇
i felt comfortable talking with you about it 🥺 yeah i do, especially when it's like e.g. 4.4 (april 4) sale, they give discounts, i don't know if it's applicable to the other countries but sellers on twitter and shopee would do that so i can buy them cheap, they're actually legit though
same here though, i have a lot of school works to do 😭
— ☁️
HELP???? OH MY GOD. i’m so sorry, i thought i posted this but it got saved to my drafts instead :(( sorry for the long wait!! on the topic of seungsung, i saw this on twt the other day. also, i’m sorry if my response here is pretty bad and incoherent. i don’t really know what to say nor how to communicate T_T
Tumblr media
lately, i’ve been seeing a lot of the concert clips of skz and AAAAA i love seeing them literally glow on stage. i really want to see them live someday :((
i actually haven’t read that webtoon i just happened to see that character a lot on tiktok i think. also, i haven’t read the lyrics of polaroid love, i just assume what the song means through the vibe. on the topic of polaroids, they’re still mad expensive to me. but i do admit, they’re cute to look at.
i haven’t had the time to see the teasers. i have been sooooo busy with school. i’ll check it out maybe later. i don’t even know if it already released. i loved the recent comeback songs so much without me knowing?? bc i can’t say i didn’t love them when i wrote fics inspired fr them.
oh!!! i thought they were discounts for the photocards themselves instead of just the checkout. i think my friend uses them a lot. i’ll keep it in mind to make my purchases on dates like that. ON THE TOPIC OF PHOTOCARDS, MY BESTFRIEND GAVE ME SEUNGCHAN PCS T___T nearly cried my eyes out over these, esp the seung pc literally one of the cutest ones i’ve ever seen.
i finished uni yesterday AAAA good luck with yours tho!!
Tumblr media
Walking from the bus stop to the place where you and Jay had decided to meet up, you couldn’t help but think about your conversation with Jungwon.
Had you been too harsh with him? You knew he was only looking out for you, but at the same time he knew how much you liked Jay. How could he not when he had been on the listening side of your long winded rants about how whipped you were for him.
Before you could overthink it any longer, you had arrived at the ice rink, quickly catching sight of Jay waiting just outside the entrance and typing something on his phone.
“Hey.” His head snapped up at the sound of your voice.
“Hey,” He discreetly looked you up and down.“You look really nice.”
You smiled and shuffled nervously on your feet. “Oh, uh- Thanks. You do too. Look nice, I mean.”
Jay laughed, and embarrassingly enough, you could feel your heart start to beat faster. “Thank you. Shall we head in?”
At your nod he held the door open and you walked in.
“I’m surprised it’s so empty,” You commented, looking back at the parking lot. Besides Jay’s car, there were only about four others scattered around. “You’d think an ice rink would be busier on a Saturday.”
“Haha, yeah, about that…” Jay rubbed the back of his neck. “I kind of had the whole place rented out for us?” He smiled sheepishly.
You swore your brain glitched for a second. “Oh. Really? That’s, um. That’s really cool.” You started to play with the hem of your hoodie. “Thanks?”
He shrugged like it was nothing. “Don’t mention it.”
When you got to the counter where they gave you your ice skates, the boy standing behind it was, admittedly, absolutely gorgeous. But he also looked practically dead inside.
He sighed deeply, sounding like he would rather be anywhere else. “Hello, how may I help you.”
Jay rolled his eyes. “Cut it out Sunghoon, you know why we’re here.” He turned to you. “What size do you wear?”
You told him, and no sooner was Sunghoon yelling out yours, and what you assumed to be Jay’s, sizes behind him.
A moment later another (very cute) boy came out from behind the racks with two pairs of ice skates in hand and looking rather unimpressed. “Really Sunghoon? Would it have killed you to get them yourself?”
“Yes.”
Jake, according to the name tag on his shirt that you just barely read due to the ridiculously small font, shook his head and handed you and Jay your respective pairs.
“Have fun!” He smiled.
You could feel the excitement building up as you and Jay walked into the giant room where the actual rink was. The two of you went over to the opening and sat on the bench close by to put your skates on. Before you could tie the laces, Jay kneeled down.
“Allow me.” He flashed you a smile and started tying them for you.
“O-Oh,” You cleared your throat awkwardly. “Um. Thanks.”
He stood up and offered you a hand. “Of course, no problem.”
With Jay’s help, you stood up and made your way to the opening, stepping onto the ice and pushing off cautiously. It had been a while since the last time you went skating, and the last thing you wanted was to fall on your face.
Though looking back, it seemed that you weren’t the one who needed to worry.
“Uhh, you okay there?”
“Yes,” Jay’s voice cracked, and even though he hadn’t moved away from the edge, you could still see how shaky he was. “Don’t- Don’t worry about me. I’ll be good.”
You rolled your eyes. “No need to try to be some big, tough guy.” You glided over to him and grabbed his hand, forcing him to release the death-grip he had on the board. “Come on, I’ll help you.”
“I’m not a baby you know? I could do it just fine on my own.”
“Oh really?” You raised a brow.
Jay scoffed. “Yes, really.”
You shrugged. “Okay.”
You let go of his hand, only to have him let out a short (but loud) scream and grab both of your wrists even tighter than before.
“Yeah, okay, maybe I do need a little help.” He panted.
You just smiled, wordlessly guiding him around slowly.
He’s so cute.
Two hours later, as you and Jay were holding onto the boards and laughing so hard you could barely breathe, you felt confident in saying that you had been having the most fun in that moment than you had all year.
It was amazing how quickly the two of you became comfortable in each other’s presence, sharing stories and cracking jokes like you’d known each other for years.
Which meant, of course, that you could already feel yourself falling for him even harder.
Why did he have to be hot, have an incredible personality, and a great sense of humor? It honestly seemed unfair at this point.
Jay Park the things you do to-
“Y/N look out!”
Your head snapped up at the sound of Jay’s shout, but it was too late. He barreled right into you, successfully knocking the both of you down onto the ice, though he managed to switch your positions just in time that it was his back hitting the cold ground with you landing on top of him.
“Oh my gosh are you okay?” You looked over his face somewhat frantically, letting out a sigh of relief when you didn’t see any scrapes or cuts.
“Yeah,” he groaned. “Sorry about that. Guess I’m not an instant prodigy like I thought I’d be.”
You couldn’t help but giggle. “No shit, Sherlock.”
“Are you okay?” Jay’s voice seemed to be soft all of the sudden. He brushed a lock of your hair out of your eyes, and you heart started going crazy.
“Yeah…” Were your faces getting closer?
“Good.” Jay glanced down at your lips.
Your noses just brushed against each other…
“Y/N?!”
You jerked away from Jay and looked up, your eyes widening.
“Pretty Boy?”
“And the Artist Of The Year Award goes to none other than...” the announcer said, keeping you all at the edge of your seats. Everyone here had voted for Jake so many times so that he would win. The announcer looked at the folded card in his hand before smiling and saying.
“Jake Sim!” The screams of everyone in the beer parlour with you watching the award ceremony were probably louder than those in the venue itself. You all watched in pride as the look of shock was evident on his face and he shakily walked to the podium to collect the award. You smiled at how good he looked, he had come so far from the boy you once knew here.
Five years ago, Jake had left his hometown, where he grew up for 18 years to pursue his dream. Granted, not everyone is supposed to stay for the rest of their lives but he thought he was going to stay but he made up his mind to leave for his passion. You all supported him even if you weren’t able to talk to him because of his busy schedule. Being able to cheer him from the sidelines was what you were content with. He was the pride of the town and people did not hesitate to show him off.
He gave the announcer a bow and collected the award. You could see the way his hands shook as he collected the award as if it felt unreal that he won.
“I would like to thank God for the ability to get to this point today and to thank my parents for always teaching me the right way and having the courage to let their child pursue his dreams even if it meant that I would be very far away; almost out of reach even. I love you. To all those that have continuously supported me and listened to my music, thank you. To the staff that have worked so hard and everyone I've had the pleasure of meeting, a big thank you to you" he said and walked off.
The excitement of the crowd reduced and everyone eventually retired to their homes while chatting amongst themselves. You think about the award one more time, feeling happy for him and move on. After all, the same way Sim has a life to live is the same way you do also.
The next day, when you wake up you feel a shift in the atmosphere. The birds are still chirping, yes but something feels unusual. You brush off the paranoia you feel and decide to do your usual morning duties and carry on with your day. While other people your age wanted to have prestigious jobs(not like there was anything wrong with that), you wanted something simple and had decided on being either a cafe owner or a florist.
Sadly, the cafe owner agenda wasn't able to work out because everyone in the vicinity was now aware of the way you burned down a cafe trying to bake and collectively decided that you should not be allowed to make food for people. Flowers were better than running a cafe shop. You stayed with your flowers and you were able to give
someone a flower when they needed it.
Need a flower for your mother? You got it, a daylily was exactly what they needed. Wanted to attend a funeral? Take a bouquet of lilies. It was easy to understand and you didn't directly put anyone in harm’s way. Although your shop was hardly ever full, you were content with everything.
That's why you're shocked when you find a line of people waiting to be let into your shop at 9 am. You raised an eyebrow in confusion but you opened the door nevertheless. At the end of the day, you were the one earning the money. You had things to buy, didn't you?
You take your place at the counter and start attending to the customers. They didn't tell you to pick out one for them and just chose it themselves. The crowd slowly reduced till there was only one person left. When there remained a few people, you quietly moved to one person to ask for the reason why they were so cheerful today.
"Jungwon, do you know why everyone is so happy today? My shop was full today!"
"Are you complaining about it?" He asks. Jungwon was the son of the cafe shop owner. He came to your shop frequently when he was on his break and you would talk to each other.
“Of course, I’m not. I just want to know what’s making everyone come here all of a sudden. Even old man Jay came here and you know that man never leaves his house. He bought a red carnation and I’m confused because who does he have affection for that he’s getting them flowers”
“He has a wife you know”
“Please, the last time they had a conversation with each other was when he asked for a divorce” you deadpanned.
“Look Y/N, who’s the one person in this town anyone would do anything for?”
“Kim Junkyu?”
“Close but not him, I wouldn’t do anything for him” Jungwon stated making you roll your eyes.
“The only person left is Sim Jaeyun and we know it’s not possible”
“Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner”
You give him a shaky smile before asking him, “You’re joking right?”
“I’m not,” he says sincerely. You nod your head and go sit on the nearest stool. Placing a hand on your throat as you begin to scratch at it (something you did when you were nervous) and just sit in silence while Jungwon continues talking.
“After the award ceremony, his management released a statement on his Instagram saying that he would be going on hiatus for two months to visit his family. So we townsmen decided to get flowers to pave the road with because he would be coming back. We would have used gold leaves but it’s too expensive”
He continued talking and talking while you were still trying to process the fact that Jake would be coming back. Physically he was still going to be the same Jake you had a crush on before he left but personality-wise? You doubted that. You heard stories of the way fame had changed people; the love from others would get to their heads and make them overly egotistical. A part of you knew that he wouldn’t change but the other part was unsure. Before he left, you made him promise to not change and while you knew promises could be broken, you knew he wouldn’t break them.
“Jungwon, I want to close the shop for today. I’m not feeling too well and want to rest a bit”
“No problem Y/N! If you want, I can stay here and do business for you”
“Don’t worry about it, I’ve made enough money today to last me for next month” you say and shoo him away.
At home, you just sit and think for some time before getting up to make some tea and reminiscing about your high school memories. You hardly had feelings for people so when you did, you let them know immediately. When you told Jake that you liked him, he told you that he felt the same. You ignored him for a week after that because you didn’t think that far. After that, you met up with him and explained the reason why you avoided him. You went out with each other for less than 2 weeks and during that period, he had told you about his dreams of becoming an artist and you supported him wholeheartedly.
He would carry your books from school and you both would walk home together every day. He'd play the violin for you because he was good. You'd both pet stray cats and run when they started chasing you. All good things came to an end when he told you that he had to leave to pursue his dream. You both knew you were too young to even attempt a long-distance relationship so you let each other go even though it hurt. You’d watch his music videos and support his activities even though there was a possibility he would never return. Now that he was going to be here, how were you going to cope knowing that your feelings for him were still the same while his feelings could have gone, especially with all the beautiful people in the industry?
That night, while everyone was outside welcoming Mr Hollywood, you stayed in your house dreading the days that would come. The town was small so there was no way that you wouldn’t bump into him. The voices were loud when you tried to sleep. Seems like everyone was ecstatic that Jake had come back. The noise wasn’t able to let you sleep but deep down you knew it was because you were nervous.
You decide to bake cookies to reduce the stress you are currently feeling. You had learnt from your mistakes and no longer burnt kitchens (your kitchen being valid proof of that), but Jungwon’s dad still wouldn’t lift his ban. You baked cookies till 2 am before you were really tired enough to sleep. You had baked almost a hundred cookies that night.
The next morning, you made sure to wake up early so you wouldn’t run into anyone. Thankfully, the townspeople didn’t want to buy flowers that morning and got started on the orders that people out of town had placed. You brought cookies for Jungwon so he could test them. You were trying to fix the counter when someone walked in, making the bell jingle. Assuming it was Jungwon, you say, “Jungwon the cookies are on the counter. Test them and tell me what you think, don’t eat them and run away”
“I’m not a Jungwon but can I talk to Y/N?” You’re startled but you freeze, instantly recognizing the voice. Jake Sim.
“Hello, what would you like?” you asked with a forced smile. You were way too close, the proximity was making you uneasy. He looked a bit disappointed with the way you answered him but what did he expect to come to? It had been five years.
“I just wanted to tal-” he is cut off by Jungwon bursting through the door.
“Y/N, you will not believe who I saw. I saw Jake Sim with my very own two eyes. He looks so much hotter in real life. Do you think he’d sign my back if I asked-” he stopped instantly when he saw the person that was in the flower shop.
He looked like a fish out of water with the way his mouth was agape. Looking at you, then at Jake and then you again. He brought his hand to his head and he hit it hard making you startled.
“Sorry I will leave now,” Jungwon said.
“To cry” he murmured, making you chuckle. Jungwon was someone that cried when he did something embarrassing.
“Jungwon wait,” you say and walk to give him the cookies you had packed for him with a little note.
“Eat them and get back to me when you’re less you know...embarrassed” He snatches them from your hands and makes a run for the door. You giggle then you remember that Jake was still present. Turning to face him, you ask if he wants anything. “I want to talk to you”
You motion him to sit on the spare chair you had and he obliges. Before you even ask him a question, he begins, “Was that your boyfriend?”
“No, not that it concerns you though”
“Where you last night? I saw everyone but you. The Johnny kid said you were feeling ill. I doubt that wasn’t true as you made cookies. The last time I remembered, you were really bad at anything relating to the kitchen”
“Times change and people change, Jaeyun. It’s been 5 years since we last had a conversation with each other. I’m not the same and I’m sure you’re not the same either”
“Let’s get to know each other again. Do things the old fashioned way. Go on dates, paint, and bake with each other. Do some of the things we could have done 5 years ago.”
“And then when you have to leave and have no contact with each other again”
“I won’t do that, I promise. Never again.”
“How can you be so sure of that?”
“Let me prove it to you-”
He’s cut off by the entrance of another customer and stands up to leave but you don’t miss the longing look in his eyes. You hope he can see the same look in yours that’s covered by hurt and waiting for someone to return.
You were not expecting Jake to be at your store first thing on a Friday morning. He was even earlier than you and you're the boss.
“What are you doing here?” you ask. He was bouncing on his feet and looking cherry when you hadn’t even gotten enough sleep.
“I’m here to take you out. Do it like the old times where I’d wait for you so we could go to school together”
“I have work to do today and I’m going to be booked so another time”
“I have come to offer my assistance so tomorrow we can go out together”
“Don’t you have things to do?”
“I’m on a hiatus, I’m free for almost two months and if you want I can be free for more. Imagine all the things we could do in that time” he trails off, fantasizing when you hadn’t even told him that you still liked him. Meanwhile, you had opened the door and walked in.
"Aren't you going to come in and stop thinking of cute stuff?" you ask him and he quickly runs in, flustered.
He takes a look around and puts on a determined face and gets a broom and starts cleaning. For someone that's supposed to be a celebrity, he was cleaning like an employee. You take a rag and wipe all the surfaces and take care of the flowers. After an hour, the shop is ready to open. Customers come rolling in once they see a new help. Although they're surprised, they don't question it.
During your break, Jake picks up a chrysanthemum and hands it to you. "It's for you because you're beautiful," he says
"Hate to rain on your parade but if you gave me this in Italy, it means you wish I were dead" and with that, he takes back the flower instantly and brings a single red rose. You receive it with a small laugh, finding it funny when he doesn't want you misinterpreting him. You were having a sweet moment with him until Jungwon came in again.
"I'm getting tired of seeing you here Mr Sim. As much as I adore you, I need to meet my friend" he states and pulls you to the back. "Care to explain why Jake Sim is in your store again!?"
"Nope" you respond, popping the p. He brought his hand to his forehead and tried to relax his muscles because according to him, he doesn't want to look forty-five when he's thirty years old.
"Look, it's weird coming here and seeing you have company. I'm not against you having company seeing as you've been lonely the entire time I've known you but, I can't stay in his presence! Why must a man Look so gorgeous!? He's ruining my already broken esteem. Everybody saw him in real life and was wondering how a man could look that good."
"They saw him when he was seventeen years old," you tell him.
"And he's twenty-three now! He doesn't look the same and I don't even need to have known him then to know now"
"Jungwon, I want you to get to the point," you tell him, basically pleading at that point because your break would soon be over.
"I'll see you when I have enough confidence to meet him," he says and leaves the store. You shake your head at his overdramatic behaviour and continue with your day. Jake proves to be amazing assistance and you got things done quicker and even closed earlier.
"Thank you for offering help, you can go home now. See you tomorrow" you say in an attempt to shoo him out.
"I want to walk you home" he announces and goes with you home.
"Do you hate me for not talking to you?" he asks.
"I don't hate you. To be honest, I think we both did the right thing by not talking to each other. It was good we had each other in mind but I would have caused too much of a distraction for you. It was great you focused on your career and achieved your goals. I did well too"
"Johnny boy said you were lonely though," he said.
"Number one, I know you know his name is Jungwon but you're just being petty. Two, why were you eavesdropping on our conversation and three, I still had a bit of hope that one day you'd return. I didn't think that you'd come" you say truthfully. The night was making you vulnerable when answering his questions.
"I always asked my mum how you were doing when I called her, you know? I wanted to check up on you without doing so myself. I'd ask her to give you a pop tart because I knew they were your favourite"
Even though he was still far away, he still had kept you in his mind the same way you did for him.
You got home and stayed at the door before you took him by the shoulder and said, "Let's go out together and have fun". He gives you a soft smile and watches you go in before he retires to his own home.
The following day, you're waiting for him to come. You had tried to dress up for the date but didn't want to underdress or overdress since he hadn't told you where you were going. So you decided to wear a simple sundress and made yourself look nice. He arrived wearing something as casual as you in a car.
"Is this your dad's?" you questioned.
"Yup, I borrowed it to take you out,” he says and winks at you. You shake your head laughing and get in the passenger seat and he drives.
“Where are we going?” you ask, curious.
“You’ll see when we get there” you don’t respond but wind down the window and feel the wind on your face which makes you smile.
You catch Jake glancing at you while he’s driving and he doesn’t even try to hide it. “At least try to pretend you’re not starting”
“I can’t help it, you’re so pretty” This kid, he was making it too easy for you to fall for him.
“Do you still like me, Jaeyun?” you inquire.
“I do,” he said with certainty. Has he always been this bold? You don’t say anything and continue to look out so he reaches over and takes one of your hands in his while he uses his other one to drive. You look at him but just continue doing what you’re doing.
“You might not believe me but I mean it,” he says, lightly squeezing your hand as a form of reassurance.
He stops the car at an aquarium and you both come out. You have a wonderful time and although people recognize him and are surprised to see him with you, they don't say anything and leave you alone. You smiled that day more than you had ever smiled before.
"The fishes look good to eat" you whisper in his ear and he playfully smacks your arm and jokes.
"You monster! How can you say that!?" to which you jokingly shrug.
After the aquarium, he takes you to a flower field. "I did my research this time so I don't give you a wrong flower." He picked up a primrose and says, "I know this one means love is eternal so I'm giving it to you because no matter the distance between us, our love will be forever"
You feel warm this time and know that even if he were to leave again, the distance wouldn't matter because together, you both could overcome anything.
"You're all I need" you manage to say.
"When did you get all sentimental?" he teases and you chase after him in the flower field. When you get tired, you lie down on the grass and he lays next to you. Your hands find his hands amid all the grass and you squeeze it. Unknowingly, you fall asleep next to him.
The next weeks that follow include you two bonding and Jake having fun and being relaxed. He was able to write a song but wouldn't let you see the lyrics, saying it wasn't something he wants you to see yet. You met his parents and thanked his mum for taking care of you indirectly and conversed with his dad too. You could tell that he hadn't forgotten any of the values his parents had thought him. He grew up surrounded by a lot of love so he had more than enough to give.
He also met your parents and he was nervous even though you had tried to reassure him that they wouldn't do anything to him. Your father tried to act scary but deep down you knew he had a soft spot for him. Your mom was showering with more affection than she gave you and Jungwon tried stylishly asking him for his celebrity crush numbers.
"Jake, since you're dating my friend can you link me up with Han Sohee? You've worked with her before, help a friend out"
"I'll ask her but no promises" Jungwon was so happy the entire day.
A few days before Jake had to go back because his hiatus was over, you both were talking about how things would be while baking muffins.
"Y/N don't think I won’t talk to you when I go because I can already see the gears turning in your head."
"Pass me the butter Jaeyun"
"Are we back to the first-name basis? Call me the sweet names" he whined.
"Just pass the butter babe" and he passes it instantly.
"Now back to what you were saying, I know you won't forget me obviously and if you try I I can always take a flight to get to you." You tell him. You weren't going to wait around for him anymore. If you missed him, you'd go see him if he was unable to come to see you.
"Better, I was already worried," he says and gives you a back hug.
The day he left was bittersweet and you shed a few tears. It took a lot of willpower to not cry in front of him. You didn't want him to leave but you knew that he had a job to get to and you couldn't be in the way of that.
You both regularly kept in touch, calling each other at least twice a week to catch up on what had happened during each other's week. He hadn't told you that he released a new song and you found out through his fanboy Jungwon who was now the self-acclaimed president of his fan club.
"Y/N, have you heard Jake's new solo? I cried to it for an hour straight" You didn't have any time to check what was going on because someone had ordered flowers for their wedding and you had to get them done quickly.
"New solo?" you ask and Jungwon sits you down and plays the song for you. Truth be told, you cried as well. It felt like he was there with you telling you that he'd never change.
You watched the interview and when he was asked about the meaning or person behind the song, he said, "There's someone that I love and I wanted to let her know that no matter how famous I get, I won't ever change and she shouldn't change either". He looked directly at the camera then continued, "You're stuck with me forever".
That night, you called him and cried on the phone to him telling him about how you saw the interview.
"Y/N, you know I care about you" you sobbed even harder.
"I care about you too, forever"
"Forever baby, regardless of the distance"
Tumblr media
Pairing: bestfriendsdad!Andy Barber x fem!reader
Warnings: 18+ ONLY, mentions of erection, lewd thoughts, drinking
Words: 2168
Summary: Andy meets Jacob friends for the first time, including y/n.
“Dad, we’re here!” Jacob cried out, opening the front door to his familiar family home.
Jacob Barber had just finished his Junior year at Columbia University and had just finished packing up his things in his apartment before driving back home. His parents had just finalized their divorce over the Christmas Break, and frankly, Jacob was relieved. His father, Andy Barber, seemed to be doing great, much happier without Laurie in his life. Maybe that was why he had agreed to let Jacob and his roommates from Columbia stay in their home for the entire summer leading up to their final year of undergrad.
“I’ll be right down, just changing a lightbulb in the bathroom.” Andy called out from upstairs, finishing his work quickly and disposing of the broken bulb in the bathroom trash can. He took his time down the stairs, smiling widely as he saw Jacob and his friends standing in the kitchen. “Good to have you home, son.” Andy announced, embracing Jacob in a warm embrace. He wasn’t lying at all, yes, he was fine after the divorce, but he did miss having his son at home playing video games or listening to his music too loud. Once Andy let go, he eyed the two other boys behind him, patting Jacob on his shoulder.
“You boys must be Jacob’s roommates, right?” He questioned.
“Yes, sorry dad, this is Rashad and Collin.” Jacob motioned to each of them, watching as his father shook each of their hands. “It’s nice to meet you all, and please, call me Andy. Only my clients call me Mr. Barber.” Andy took a step back, reaching into the fridge to grab a few Coors Light bottles, handing one to each of the boys before turning his attention back to Jacob.
“I thought you said there was another roommate coming, right? The one who you begged me to let intern at my office during the summer?” Andy asked, raising an eyebrow at his son.
Jacob took a swig off his beer bottle, nodding his head. “Yeah, y/n said she’d be here soon, she was just finishing up with a friend for brunch and then she was heading over.” Jacob, Rashad, Collin, and Y/N had been roommates this year in a quaint little apartment about five minutes from Columbia’s main campus. Andy had been to the apartment once to meet up with Jacob for dinner in the Fall during one of his many fights with Laurie, though Jacob’s roommates had all been out that day.
“Alright, well why don’t you boys make yourselves at home, take your pick of any of the guest rooms upstairs and let me know if you need anything. I was thinking of firing up the grill, it’s such a beautiful day out and the swimming pool contractors just finished with the new pool out back.” Andy opens the doors of the fridge again, pulling out the hamburger meat as the three men race up the stairs to look at the rooms they’d be occupying for the next few months. “Sure dad, thanks!” Jacob calls back, giving his father a short wave of his hand.
About an hour later the boys had all settled into the Barber’s backyard, speakers against the home blaring the hottest songs of the summer. Andy and the boys stood around the grill, exchanging stories of their latest semester and giving Andy a chance to get to know Rashad and Collin better. He was quite impressed with the type of people Jacob had chosen to associate himself with. Rashad was an engineering major like Jacob while Collin was studying chemistry.
Tumblr media
After the boys finished laughing about Collin and Jacob’s double date gone terribly wrong, Jacob’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, glancing at the screen with a smile. “Y/N’s pulling in, I’m going to go help her with her bags.” The other boys stayed next to Andy, watching as he flipped the last set of burgers on the grill.
“She’s gotta look heavenly in a bikini, right bro?” Rashad asks Collin, nudging him playfully in the side.
“You got a thing for y/n? Because I don’t think it’d be too appropriate to get with someone you are living the entire summer with, especially under my roof.” Andy objected, removing the burgers off the grill and onto the plate beside him.
Both Rashad and Collin burst out laughing, taking swigs from their beer bottles as they do. “Nah, Andy. Y/N’s a smoke show don’t get me wrong, but we can look but don’t touch. She’s not a relationship type of woman anyhow.” Rashad teased.
Just as the two boys finished their snickering, Jacob opens the screen door, the two immediately jogging up to give y/n a hug.
“What, you boys miss me that much after being apart for only a day?” She teased, Collin finally releasing her from his death grip. Jacob pulls y/n out into the yard, stopping right in front of the grill where Andy was turning off the burners.
“Dad, this is y/n.” He gestures towards the woman beside him just as y/n sticks out a hand for Andy to shake.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Mr. Barber, I’ve heard so much about you.” Andy finally turns his head in the direction of her voice, his eyes locking on hers as his heart skips a beat in his chest.
“It’s nice to meet you too, and please, call me Andy.” He reaches forward to shake her hand, taking in the whole sight of her. Her hair hung in loosely tousled waves down her back, stopping just above her breasts that were jutting out of her black lace bodysuit, which clung tightly to her hourglass figure and was tucked into her jean shorts that barely seemed to cover her ass. Her lips were plump and juicy, the color of a glass of fruit punch, a dotting of light freckles across her cheeks. Her eyes were striking, she wore no mascara, yet her lashes were thick and long. She was breathtakingly beautiful, a ‘smoke show’ as Rashad had said, indeed.
Y/N watched how Andy’s eyes engulfed her body, tilting her head to one side as she pretended not to notice. “Well Andy, thank you again for letting us all stay with you this summer, and thank you for the internship. I would rather work a paid internship than work with these boys anywhere.” She teased, ruffling Jacob’s hair.
“It’s no trouble at all, our office could use a good intern for the summer.” He agreed, eyes lingering a little too long on her perky breasts again.
“Maybe we can carpool to work, I’m all about environmentalism.” Her words are flirtatiously drifting off her tongue, a seductive smile spreading across her lips. Was Andy imagining this?
“R-right, yeah sounds good.” He moves to grab the plate of burgers by the grill, gesturing to the house. “Boys, please bring out the salad, condiments, and tableware from the counter and come set the table. Oh, and get y/n a beer.”
Andy moves to the patio table and sets down the plate of burgers, watching y/n as she slowly sinks into the chair next to him. He catches a whiff of her perfume, a heavenly mix of oranges, vanilla, and sandalwood wafting through his nostrils. It’s the perfect scent for her, he thought, moving to sit at the far end of the table.
The boys come back with all the supplies for dinner, including y/n’s beer, which she is already nursing happily from. Andy’s eyes focus on how her lips wrap around the top of the glass bottle, clearing his throat as if to rid himself of his dirty thoughts.
“So, y/n, what made you want to intern in my office?” He questioned, assembling a burger onto his plate. Y/N tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, carefully putting a helping of salad onto her own plate before assembling the rest of her meal.
“I’m completing my undergraduate degree and then hopefully getting admitted to law school to become an attorney. I figured interning in a real office would be a great first step.” She stuck her fork into the salad, opening her mouth to take in the bite.
“So, what are you getting your undergrad in?”
“My major is human rights with a minor in economics.” Her eyes met Jacob’s, a smile spreading on her face. “That’s how I actually found out Jake-y here was looking for another roommate. We had microeconomics together. Then I got introduced to these two losers-“ She teased, motioning to the other two guys at the table who feigned hurt expressions. “-and the rest is history.” The boys next to her were all chowing down as usual as if they hadn’t been fed in days.
As they take the time to finish eating, y/n lets the boys do most of the talking. She’s not a huge sharer when she first meets people, and frankly she’s glad to have the guys around to keep her entertained all summer. The dinner is spent catching way-too-long glances from Andy, his eyes lingering on hers for a bit too long here and there. There’s something about him that intrigues her, maybe it’s because he’s not a boy but a man, or maybe it’s just her usual game of cat and mouse, men usually fell to putty at her feet and she assumed he’d be the same.
“That was great dad, thank you.” Jacob says, finishing his third burger of the night. “Anyone up for a late-night swim?” He asked, standing up from the table and picking up a few of the items from it to take them inside. Rashad and Collin follow suit, with y/n trailing behind.
“Sounds good.” Rashad replies, going over to set his plate in the sink before bounding up the stairs. Andy walks back in as the four head upstairs to change, turning on the sink and rinsing off the dishes before setting them in the drying rack on the counter.
Shortly after finishing washing his third plate, he hears the boys running down the stairs, pushing each other to see who can do a cannonball in the pool first. Andy can’t help but chuckle to himself at their energy, it truly was nice to have noise in the house again.
“Can I help you, Mr. Barber?” Andy turns his head to the soft voice behind him, his cock twitching in his jeans. She’s standing in front of him in the tiniest floral bikini he’s even seen on a woman, the bottoms barely covering her slit and leaving nothing to the imagination of her ass.
“It’s Andy.” He chokes out, licking his lips before turning his attention back to the sink. Y/N sashays over to his side, grabbing the clean towel off the counter and starting to dry the dishes as Andy sets them into the rack.
“Right, I’m sorry, Andy.” Her eyes trail over his figure as she speaks, he can feel her eyes on him, and he shifts his weight as he stands to make sure his cock couldn’t be seen through the fabric of his jeans. “Thank you again for letting us all stay here; I was hoping not to have to deal with another summer bummer.” Her thin fingers set each dry dish carefully atop the other, Andy’s eyes glancing over one last time before he turns off the water, drying his hands on a clean towel.
He clears his throat. “Of course, any friend of Jacob’s is a friend of mine.” Suddenly, as if his ears are burning, Jacob opens the screen door sopping wet.
“You coming y/n?” He asks, cocking an eyebrow at her.
“Yeah, I was just helping your dad clean up.”
Andy shifts uncomfortably, trying to hide the erection in his pants. “Hey kiddo, I’m going to bed, you guys have fun tonight.” He turns to walk down the hallway of the first floor to his bedroom, hearing y/n’s soft voice echoing out to him.
“Goodnight Andy.” She purred, Jacob finally picking her up over his shoulder and carrying her out to the pool area, her cries of protest lingering as he shut the screen door behind them.
Once locked away in his room Andy let out a sigh, undoing his jeans and letting his cock spring free from his underwear. He couldn’t believe the way he was getting hard for his son’s best friend, he hadn’t even had a chance to think of another woman since the divorce, but y/n just had this sickeningly sweet seduction about her, he knew it matched a certain name.
“Lolita.” He murmured, and though she wasn’t a 12-year old girl from the novel, because ew, he did seem to have some sinful obsession with her after having just met. Is this love or lust or some game on repeat? Andy didn’t know, but one thing was for sure, he was definitely about to jerk off to sexual thoughts of her in that bikini.
