How good is the Twisted Ends fanfic, if you've read it?

I've been debating reading it, mainly because I'm starved for content about Slugterra and anything post Into The Shadows is what's on my mind right now (Ascension doesn't count, it's not real)

A Tad Discussion

So, I kind of wanted to do this post for a while now. I was just never sure how to collect my thoughts about it because Tad as a character is very... interesting to me, specifically his motivation for why he hates Eli and his hatred for his dad despite acting almost just like him. So, sit back and relax as I try my best to understand and explain Tad.

Tad himself, as a character was obviously not very well-liked when he was first introduced. Despite the fandom being really small at the time our tiny but mighty fandom had a bone to pick with Tad because he's just Twist but almost worse. It's like those goofy fanfic where they're like and then it turns out that along Dr. Blakk had an evil son or daughter. Like it's just really lazy and we already had a character that the fandom really liked do this plot so much better

But I don't want to talk about Twist's motivation (I'll save that hopefully for another day), but I want to talk about Tad. First of all, his motivation for hating his dad really doesn't make sense... at first, I will explain. For example, he constantly says that he's picking up where his FEEBLE father left off and Tad I don't know if you've SEEN your father but that man is not feeble for the life of him lol.

But he continues to go on to insult him calling his dad a fool and even when Boss Ember calls him junior since I assume his full name is Thaddius Blakk Jr., it really pisses him off and his points his blaster at Boss Ember saying he's no one's junior. Speaking of his name it's interesting that he goes by Tad and not Thad. I guess you could argue that he was trying to hide himself from Eli and the Shane gang but considering how much he hates being called junior I feel like that's not the case.

It's just strange. He's really pissed off at being called Junior and acts like he doesn't want to associate with him but then ACTS just like him. I mean not completely, he doesn't ghoul Peiper which is better than you can say for Twist, but it's almost like Tad knows the ghouling is wrong. Maybe that was a way to differentiate from his father. I know they say it's to control the ghouls better but still

Either way, what does this leave us with. A boy who had a horrible life on the surface that acts like his dad but doesn't want to associate himself with him and who literally says that he wants to be twice the man he was. Sounds like bad writing sure but I think it's something different. I think Tad is overcompensating.

I mean think about it. Imagine you're Tad. You have a horrible life on the surface and your father either left you or doesn't even know about you only to spend all his time in this fantasy world building a business and a life that you're not a part of.

Only to later find a map or create a map I can't remember which one it was that leads to this underground, and you think I'm gonna go see my dad only to find that he was defeated by as he says "A kid my own age" I would be pretty mad too and it's clear just like Twist, Tad is taking out his problems as his frustrations out on Eli. Also, I will say I feel like the "evilness" from Tad came outta no nowhere or it could just be bad writing.

Either way, I still think he's overcompensating for his daddy issues. Everyone does something different. Some run away and become the protector of the world, some steal treasures, some become their enemy's associate, and others resurrect their father's business lol

But to finish off, Tad clearly wants to show the world or eh Slugterra that he is clearly better than his dad and a better villain. He's kinda like, oh, you were a businessman and left me or didn't know about me well, I’m gonna be a better businessman than you ever were, and I’ll prove that leaving me behind was a mistake. He hates his father so much that he wants to prove to everyone and himself that he can be better than him and kind of show off that he never needed him. At least, that’s the kind of vibe I get from Tad.

I mean in the end, I'm probably just reading waaay too much into this character. More likely than not the writers probably were just like ooooo how cool would it be for Blakk to have a son that also lived on the surface and then betrays the gang... as if we haven't seen that before. Rip Twist

Slug Fu Headcanon- Chi

So I rewatched Slugterra: Eastern Caverns a few weekends ago and there's one thing that still bothered me the most:

Chi.

The way that it is explained in the movie doesn't really... match up to the actual meaning of Chi???

Rant and headcanon below. Lmk your thoughts.

Decided to add a quick lil drawing. It's just what happens internally with their Slug Energy.

Like, from my understanding, chi is the life force/energy that flows through all living things.

But in the movie, it is said that it's a set of moral code, so essentially the Slugslinger code (that apparently the 99 Caverns have but was never explored truly. I wanna know what the code is explicitly xD cuz I have an idea by how Eli carries himself lol)

But anyways, if chi is just a set of moral code like the Slugslinger code, wouldn't all Eastern slingers follow it? If chi is so essential to Slug Fu, then if everyone follows it, wouldn't anyone and everyone be able to practice Slug Fu? Become a Master even?

If that's the case, then if someone (who isn't a Master) wears a wrist blaster, it would be frowned upon but it wouldn't be such a big insult and Junjie wouldn't feel so strongly about it.

So, I present you this:

Chi - Reworked

Chi —in Slugterra— refers to one's own Slug Energy*.

Slug Fu works by being able to tap into one's own Slug Energy and their slug's energy at the same time. This in turn, creates a connection between slinger and slug, thus allowing the slinger to guide their slug with Slug Fu art forms.

Although fairly simple to understand, applying the concept is difficult, incredibly more so to master. It is why becoming a Slug Fu Master is such an incredible and respectable feat, why it is such a huge deal, and why there are not many...

So if a slinger uses a wrist blaster and isn't a Slug Fu Master, it is an insult to tradition and to the Masters themselves.

Dark Slug Fu works the same way. Only difference is learning to corrupt your own chi, twisting it into something evil and dark... This in turn, allows a slinger to access the dark energy of ghouls. Does take a toll on a slinger's body, the corruption often showing up on their body...

Then, they have to will their chi to become stronger in order to overpower the energy of ghouls in order to, not guide them, but to control them...

NOTES:

The double sight Eli unlocks with Burpy, the way it works is that slinger's energy and slug's must be perfectly synced, thus allowing the slinger to see through their slug's eyes.

A Slug Fu Master is able to guide more than one slug at the same time by splitting their energy into X pieces and connecting each one to the respective slug. This does drain the slinger though and eats at their stamina and endurance.

Mastering Slug Fu takes up a lot of focus and concentration as just being able to be aware of one's own Slug Energy is tricky already.

* per "It Comes By Night, it is implied Slugterrans have Slug Energy, if not, the High Plains monster shouldn't have been able to affect the people.

TL;DR:

I reworked what Chi is in Slugterra. Chi is now the Slug Energy within all Slugterrans. Slug Fu works by connecting the slinger's chi to their slug's chi.

Okay, as someone who started Hollow Knight and never finished it (I’m really bad at finishing games. Took me not playing it for 6 months before finally doing the last little bit of Fire Emblem: Three Houses), I am FASCINATED by this Hollow Knight AU, kid. This is exactly the kind of weird and esoteric that I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

So, please explain how magic works in this AU, cause that’s the part that I desperately want to know. That and details on how Luz ended up in the Boiling Isles this time if there’s any major differences.

Stated earlier, magic is more like soul. You sort of just channel ya soul n twist it into magic. Which is how it can go awry and royally fuck you over. Which also means that people like Eda w stronger souls are Very sought after bc of their magic n soul. Emperor Belos heard of a human knight AND shes traveling w Eda? Win win

And, as much as I hate this comparison, Luz ended up there like Undertale. She sorta just found a weak spot when Eda was dicking around and when she landed in the underground Boiling Isles her escape got covered up. So also kinda like Slugterra. 3 people will get that reference

3. Dana - her inner thoughts in the two episodes she is in, and her past

4. Twist - his past, from the day he lost his father to the end of "The New Kid Part 2"

5. Quintin - the incident that caused him to have phobia of slugs, his troubled childhood, his descent into madness, and his inner thoughts in "Roboslugs"

6. Shanai - haunted by the question of "did she choose the right student?", take place before "The Unbeatable Master"

7. Sedo - his rivalry with Pronto due to different visions in leading their people (Pinto will make an appearance), his anger after Pronto abandoned his people for his selfish ambition to be a tracker, and his desire to do anything to restore the reputation of the Molenoids

8. Dr. Blakk's Wife - inspired by the song "tolerate it" by Taylor Swift

Most of the stories are going to base on my analysis on these characters.

Besides, discussions are opened for other characters in Slugterra, along with analysis on them.

Why there needs to be more Slugterra

1. In the most recent addition, the movie Into the Shadows, the animation was improved - there were no reused scenes from previous episodes, the lighting / colours / effects were even better than before.

2. So many loose ends were left: How exactly did Tad find Pieper? What kind of slug is Pieper? Will the Shane gang win back the Shadow Clan’s trust? Will they ever rescue Will Shane (it was mentioned several times in previous episodes)? Eli mentioned his disappearing mother - what happened to her? What is Tad’s backstory - his father is Dr. Blakk yet he lived on the Surface?

3. There is so much potential for the storyline - most shows run out and are scrambling to think of ideas, but Slugterra’s are almost endless - the teleportation device from Journey to the Eastern Caverns directly stated that there are more locations than the 99 Caverns & the East, one of the location’s symbols was the Sun, indicating the Surface, and probably one is the Deep Caverns, and a few others that we know nothing about.  And in terms of characters, they could bring back Dana, Twist, etc.

4. The ending of Into the Shadows did not feel like a finale at all.  Instead of just showing Eli’s b-day party and leaving it at that, they ended with Tad and Pieper confirmed alive in the Deep Caverns, with Tad maliciously saying ‘it’s going to be alright’ with that angsty Slugterra-music that always plays when something intense is going to happen next.

5. Last but not least: SLUGTERRA IS AN AMAZING SHOW.  The strong storyline, the amazing creatures and caverns, the great characters, the humour, the action, the adventure -

Slugterra- Return of the Elementals trivia and fave points (bolded)

During post-production the film was titled "Slugterra: The Power of Five".

This actually makes more sense to me than Return of the Elementals

This marks the return of Dr. Blakk but he is in a new form.

Will Shane is revealed to be alive.

This is the first time Will and Eli interact with each other in the series.

And I wanted this to happen since episode one

This is the second time a new member joins The Shane Gang the first time was The New Kid Part 1and 2.

Blakk's Gattler is different to the one he uses in the series.

This is the first time in the series anyone called boon docs by there real names in any other episode they called them "healers".

Slugterra: Return of the Elementals won the Leo Award 2015 for Best Overall Sound in an Animation Program or Series. [1]

Continuity

Redhook tells two kids and a few slugs about how the Shane Gang defeats The Goon and gets the new member Junjie from the previous movie "Slugterra: Ghoul from Beyond".

Trixie says that they thought that they have the only Enigmo slug as stated in "Endangered Species".

Dr. Blakk says that his trip to The Deep Caverns is invigorating since he was thrown into The Deep Caverns at the end of "Light as Day".

Trixie mentions Tom Por, Dana Por's father who was mentioned & seen in a flashback in "Inheritance", and their former friendish.

"The Burning World", a term used by Slugterreans to refer to The Surface in "A Distant Shore", is used by Redhook.

Redhook mentions the legend of "odorless plumbing" again since "The Hard Part".

Kord's motion detector mod from "It Comes by Night" is used again and it is been calibrated to pick up the unique energy signature emitted by The Elemental Slugs.

Eli tells Junjie that Doc is a Guardian Slug, a status that Doc achieves in "What Lies Beneath".

Trixie guesses that The Hooligang probably found Doc first in Quiet Lawn Cavern before they duel with Eli in "The Slugout" since Billy used to have Doc in his arsenal in that episode.

Kord creates Jetpacks again since "The Thrill of the Game".

Eli tells Junjie that he sort of just figured out how to fly on an Infurnus as he only found out in "Light as Day".

Pronto mentions Twist, who was once a member in the Shane Gang but later betrayed them in "The New Kid Part 2".

When the Shane Gang crash lands in The Jungle Cavern, they recognize the place as they have been there in "Endangered Species".

Cultural References

Junjie speaks Cantonese when he is commanding his slugs in a friendly duel with Eli. Cantonese is a variation of the Chinese language spoken in the city of Guangzhou in southeastern China. It is similar to Mandarin, but with different pronunciation, grammar and lexicon. Moreover, Cantonese is the most common Chinese variety spoken among Chinese Canadians (in which Vincent Tong, the voice actor of Junjie, is a Chinese Canadian. Since Junjie looks like a South-Asian orient, this could explain why he speaks Cantonese, adding the fact that Chinese from Southern China are common across Southeast Asia and North America).

Errors

When Suds in Pronto's arsenal was ghouled (because of the Water Elemental), Stinky was normal (and the Air Elemental was ghouled).

Buzzsaw looks like Butch.

The Shane Gang shoot a Bubbaleone when the Water Elemental Slug is ghouled.

There is a Ghoul from Beyond scene.

Trixie shoots Bluster when the Air Elemental Slug is ghouled.

Dr.Blakk's eyes were not ghouled in one scene even though the Goon had ghouled him.

Episode 20: Battle Cry

Oops my bad this is not only a week after the short but it’s gonna be in lazy format because that is what the lazy effort put into ascension deserves. I’m like half joking but I was sick for the entire week so I wasn’t able to make this post. But anyway it’s been real ascension 🫡 I don’t know what the point of you was whether it’s to get people hyped for the return of slugterra or to see if people are interested in you but you were… something 😅

Like I was kinda right that Blakk got taken back into the caves but I really thought it was gonna get pushed down back into the deep caverns so I’m honestly not sure what I like better. It honestly just ends in an anticlimactic way which is what I was excepting.

But the craziest twist is that Uni doesn’t stay with the gang which I was really surprised. It’s gets me wondering again and again WHAT WAS THE POINT OF ASCENSION 😅

But that’s about it for ascension but not the end of slugterra for me. I still have other posts that I want to well post plus I’m rewatching the show like a million times (not a million but still a lot 😂) just so I can get all the content I can out of it.

Oh and I totally forgot to mention (and I always find this so embarrassing) but I have been trying to write fanfic again specifically slugterra fanfics. I only have one fic on AO3 right now but I’m planning on making more hopefully it’s just really hard with school. But that’s about it

Hello! I wanted to introduced my main OCs to you guys on Tumblr! (Side note, my fanon timeline is that everything that happened in canon happened in at least 2 years, The Unbeatable Master being the end of year 1)

99 Caverns

Sarai Elinor Shane - 17

She dropped to Slugterra about 6 months after Eli, and was met by the Unbeatable Master who took care of her until her final days. Afterwards, she reunited with Eli and met the Shane Gang. Soon after, she offered to help them and became a spy for them, infiltrating Blakk Industries though she had other motives; find information about her father. 

Sarai’s dream is to be an amazing Shane like her father, but all her life, she’s been told that she can’t and won’t become Shane because the role has already given to Eli. Unless Eli was to perish of course. 

Sarai is not only a Shane but she was blessed by Slugterra and given the role of The Guardian, a humanoid who protects the Slugs and the Spirit of Slugterra. Although to Sarai, it’s more of a curse than a blessing...

Dawn Elizabeth Cavernette - 19

A very shy elf from a clan of warriors of the deep western caverns. She was mentored to be a healer, but eventually decided to go to vet school to become a Slug Healer instead. She moved to the central caverns and lives alone while going to school as she is too shy to have a roommate. 

One day when coming back from school, she ran into Sarai. Literally. Sarai was nearly run over by Dawn on her mecha and jumped out of the way. She tripped and hit her head as she fell so Dawn took her home and fixed her up. After that they became friends and now are as close as peas in a pod! Sarai helped Dawn get past her shyness and frankly slight fright of new slugs, Sarai translated for Dawn and helped her identify specific chirps and squeaks so she knew which slugs were friendly and which were not. Dawn is forever grateful for that help. She actually offered a room to Sarai once they became best friends and they become roommates! 

Dawn will eventually become the Shane Gang’s go-to-Slug Healer and actual healer when Doc is away. She is close after all!

Dr. Saverina - 36

A renowned doctor who was forcibly recruited by Dr. Blakk to become the doctor to his henchmen after being blackmailed and left no choice but to go. Though constantly annoyed by Dr. Blakk and his henchmen, she deeply cares for whoever walks into her office. One of her favourite patients, is Twist; a young troubled boy who is being manipulated by a bad man. She just wants to save him and if all she can do for now is heal him, she is satisfied by that.

Dr. Saverina was the first to realize that Sarai was a Shane and that she was infiltrating the Citadel, but she could care less. She was Sarai’s only comfort during her infiltration and, helped her get information and sneak into missions to relay information to the Shane Gang.  

Saverina is from Nightmare Ridge Cavern, so although a very caring person, she carries an eerie aura around her and she blames her cavern of birth. 

Eastern Caverns

Cheng Xia Li - 28

A Slug Fu prodigy who comes from a noble family. She spent a lot of time in Peach Blossom Spring Caverns under the mentorship of Master Lian and soon-to-be Eastern Champion. At only 8, she had already surpassed many Slug Fu Masters and was to be given the title of master in a few months when The Emperor made his return. She ran away and was separated from her family for 20 years. 

During this time, she made friends who began to survive together. As she and her friends grew older, they began to steal Imperial Convoys and Slug Convoys and get into the Emperor’s way. Soon, they began to get a following. They became a rebel group that eventually grew into The Lotus Warriors, an army that was a pain in the butt for The Emperor. Xia Li led an attack on The Emperor’s palace and was inches away from ending The Emperor but was unsuccessful.

After Eli Shane and Junjie got rid of the Emperor, General Xia Li and her army helped stabilize and distribute resources to every corner of the Eastern Caverns.

Satoshi Hiro - 31

Second in Command to his General Cheng Xia Li. He was a commoner who’s family serves several nobles, he hates it and nobles in general due to past experiences. When The Emperor took over, he couldn’t go back to his family so he had to hide and survive on his own. Eventually, he met Xia Li and banded together. Though once he found out she was a noble, they began to be at odds but stuck together for survival. Once they met new friends, things changed; they began to get along and learned that they made and excellent team together. 

This eventually lead to him being named second in command to back then, Commander Cheng Xia Li. He was deeply honoured. Not only did he earn her trust, but they became lovers, he cared so much for her and was loyal to her until the end. During the mission to attack The Emperor’s Palace, he was captured by enemy forces and interrogated for information. He passed away a few years later...

Liu Minzhe - 21

Successor to Satoshi Hiro and new to-be-Second in Command to his General Cheng Xia Li. He is a humble noble who has a strong belief in what is just and righteous. He met Xia Li when he was 15 and he admired her right from the start. He begged her to let him join but Xia Li said it was best for him to stay home and that when he was older and ready, she’ll let him join. But Minzhe didn’t want to wait. So he trained for 2 years and eventually told his parents what he wanted and after a lot of convincing, he set out to find the Lotus Warriors and when he did, he told Xia Li confidently that he was ready to join and fight The Emperor. Seeing he had built more muscle, how confident he was, ready with blaster and bandoleer in hand. She let him join and he was overjoyed. 

Minzhe became a very important asset to the Lotus Warriors, not only did he became a powerful slinger and strategist, he became the best cook the Lotus could ask for and he became the Lotus’s shield. He took care of the children who came in and protected them with all his heart. That earned him the nickname of “The Gentle Giant”. He is one of the most generous and kind soldiers in the Lotus. 

He is currently under training from Shun to become Xia Li’s second in command and he can’t wait to take his post, even if that comes with tremendous expectations left from his predecessor...

Shun - 53

He met Xia Li when she was 10, and alongside her friends, they took him down as they were fighting over stolen supplies. He was incredible embarrassed and once he was let go, he couldn’t let random small kids run around with a coup going on. So he took them under his wing and made sure they were safe, even when he knew these kids could very well kill him in his sleep. He watched them grow up and passed on his military knowledge and training to them once he noticed they were taking their mini missions seriously. 

Shun is the true backbone of The Lotus Warriors. He is the final pillar that keeps the Lotus Warriors stable and strong. He is a fatherly figure to Xia Li and her advisor. If she goes down, he is there to support him and bring her back up. Without Shun, there is no Lotus Warriors. 

He has a young daughter, whome he has kept her safe all these years. He takes care of her ever since his wife passed away. Shun considers Xia Li as family and that is why she has been the only one to have seen Shun’s young daughter.
