Daily MCO Drink #477, MCO Day #479: WIBBLE, made with 1 part Hendrick’s Gin, 1 part Brookie's Byron Slow Gin, 1 part grapefruit juice, 1/3 part lemon juice, 1/3 part Giffard creme de Mure, 1 bar spoon simple syrup, shaken over ice and strained. Created in 1999 by Dick Bradsell. A bit on the sweet side with the sloe, sorry, SLOW gin, and the creme de mure, but quite tasty noneheless. In a lane near where I live in Essex, UK, a Prunus spinosa (blackthorn, sloe, bullace, skeg, snag) is flowering. This native, deciduous tree is flowering in the local hedgerows as white clouds, but here it is growing as a spiny and densely branched tree which can eventually reach up to 6-7m. Once pollinated the flowers develop into blue-black fruits measuring 1cm across and can become a major ingredient of sloe gin.
