I feel like I have to explain myself with this one.

I do really enjoy the ship. Aesthetically it's top notch, no notes, but I do find that fandom has a tendency of dropping canon dynamics, when to me it's what makes the ship.

There's lots of thranto art and fic that's wholesome, loving, depicting them being emotional, open, touchy feely, romantic and even enjoying cozy family life.

And while that's super good and I'm always happy to see it, I do feel like it's a huge majority of the fan take on the ship, when to me, what makes thranto so madeningly tasty is that Thrawn goes from alien underling to Eli's boss. He manipulates the course of his life, puts him in danger repeatedly , disregards his outspoken choices and desires... Makes him pretty clearly fall for him... Then sells him on this whole idea of going to work for his people.

And then Eli ends up pining, with very canon frustration, the feeling he's being abandoned (and maybe used?) And *we* the reader know Thrawn has a history of collecting sidekicks. In every appearance he has a different one! He also sends more people to the Chiss, or tries and fails. So Eli isn't even unique in that way.

So is Thrawn using him? Protecting him? Does he love him, and if so, is it in a way Eli can recognise?

Eli's fascinating to me because he's so completely caught in this drama with his boss who borderline owns him like a pet. He has a "are we the baddies?2 moment too, and puts the entire thing down because Thrawn tells him to... Yet he ends up going to the Chiss compelled by this idea of a greater good?

He's so wrapped around this man, so molded by him, he may as well be the "you want me so bad it makes you look stupid" meme.

And. Yet. They. Are. Platonic.

Isn't it wild? Aren't Eli tears tasty to fandom? I also feel like Thrawn's alien side is not often played with, and his cold and analytical side discarded for more fieryness.

ANYWAY. That's why I chose guilty pleasure ship, because I mostly find slightly ooc fics, but they're still great and tasty so I indulge. But ultimately it's not the dynamic I seek for Thranto.

Saying fanon gets them wrong is an overstatement, and I'm sure plenty of others see it like I do. It's just not a very angsty ship, when I think it should be.

Also as a ship it's very close to my heart because I got one of my besties into SW with the Thrawn book (so she could understand my thrawn fic I was writing at the time and help me beta, may the writing gods bless her soul), and she sent me so many unhinged screenshots of her kindle with furious thranto notes all over. I cherish them!

1. Why do I ship it? It's the ship I never knew I needed until five seconds ago. They would feed into each other's worst qualities in the most interesting ways. But I think they also have the potential to bring out the best in each other. I don't think they would be able to fool each other. They are just too similar and would recognize when the other is being a self-destructive idiot

2. What are my favorite things about this ship? Probably how similar these two are. This would be such a good enemies to lovers fic. That being said, it would take at least 200k of fic to make this ship healthy. Significantly less for an unhealthy ship. It would either burn hot and messy, or reeeaaalllll sllloooowwww

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I think the most unpopular thing I've got is that I don't hate either character. And that I like this ship in the first place

Cons

Sabrina has helped Chloe bully Luka’s sister and actual crush in the past. He could hold animosity towards Sabrina over it like with Chloe.

They never interacted before. Heck, I don’t even know if they know of each other.

Luka tends to put others' feelings before his a bit too much. Sabrina does the same thing. That might cause them to clash.

Sabrina has both a toxic view of relationships (both platonically and romantically) and low self-esteem. It’s probably best if she works on herself before getting into any relationship.

Sabrina has a love interest already and the same with Luka.

Pros

Forgiveness is a thing. In my opinion, I don’t think Sabrina is worse than Chloe as far as behavior and being a bully. I’m one of those individuals that truly think that it will take a lot less work for Sabrina to redeem. Luka COULD help. He’s a nice boy that seems to see through imperfections. With the right guidance, I feel that Sabrina could change for the better. Hey, if Chluka can work out for some people, why not Lukabrina?

Sabrina has low self-esteem. I believe that Luka could help her see the potential Sabrina has and help her see her worth.

They might have never interacted or known of each other, but that just leaves room for others to add what they want to the characters and the relationship. After all, fanon tends to be better than canon.

They could change together.

No offense to Delmar at all, but he’s blander than a piece of bread. Luka has more of a personality.

They just look adorable together.

The shy brainiac with the cool, calm, and mellow Luka? HECK YES.

Grade: A+ (OTP)

Conclusion

Like with many pairs on MLB, Lukabrina has the potential to be something great. They may have never truly met, but I really think if they did, with the right writing, I think they could be a cute pair that could work. Heck, if Lukanette is off the table and the love square happens (which I'm pretty sure it will), then I would prefer Lukabrina rather than Luka x Zoe or Luka x Kagami.

Afterthought

Sorry to Sabrinath fans, but Lukabrina to me is my new Sabrinath. In fact, it's A LOT better and more interesting.

My OTP: KagaKuro (duh)

My NOTP: You know what, kinda same: Any other ship involving Kuroko, but also Kagami, and it’s not that I can’t see any potential in other ships, it’s just that I want KagaKuro to be forever. And I guess the Kuroko ships bother me a bit more too, because it’s Kuroko who always gets the harem treatment and there’s just something about it that I dislike. I don’t like the idea that everyone is into Kuroko over anyone else. I guess Momoi, Nash and Hanamiya make my blood boil the most, though.

MY OT3: I don’t think I have one... I have plans to explore polyamory in my fics but that might be happening between characters who all just happen to be my OCs. :’D So, that doesn’t count.

A currently canon ship I’m okay with but don’t prefer: It’s true practically no ship is canon, except Riko and Kiyoshi being exes... or like Tsuchida and his nameless girlfriend. But I do consider Riko x Hyuuga (is there a ship name for that, I’ve never seen one?) and AoMomo being sort of canon because it has been so heavily implied. But they still don’t count for this, because they are my preferred ships. So, really can’t think of anything.

A ship that would only work in an AU but would be awesome: I also can’t think of anything, because my brain just doesn’t work in AUs... if something needs an AU to work, then to me it kind of doesn’t have a point. (My exception is dreamworld fics that contribute to my huge canonverse story. I’m not opposed to reading other people’s AUs though, I’m quite intrigued about yours!) But no, I can’t think of any ship that would be inherently interesting. Not that I couldn’t be convinced.

A ship I’d like to see explored but not stick around: Sometimes when I’m half-asleep, my brain is like... If KagaKuro broke up for a while in adulthood, I could see Kise and Kuroko having a one-night stand... but when I’m all there, I’m like, no, I’m not going to write that. (Everything that it would thematically bring to my story has been explored already, so I’m not going to repeat myself just so Kise can fulfil some teenage fantasy). So, that’s a bad answer, actually. Hmm, well, I kind of see AkaFuri as something that could happen (way in the future) but wouldn’t last. So that’s a better one.

A ship that may as well be canon:  Well, same as you, KagaKuro and MidoTaka. But also Riko x Hyuuga and AoMomo.

The ships I’d give my OTP pair if the other died: I really don’t want to think about this, but if I’m honest, yeah, if both Aomine and Kuroko ended up alone, I feel like they might end up together. Interestingly enough, I feel like the same could happen with Momoi and Kagami. I know that’s a rare pair for sure, but I’ve discovered the potential of their friendship in my fics. Under no other circumstances could I see either of these ships happening, but in these particular cases I think it would eventually happen, because in my headcanon these four keep becoming closer friends as they get older, so the pull of the person who understands your loss would probably be irresistible in the end... dear lord, I don’t want to think about this further.

A crossover ship I’d dig: This is too much for me.

A ship that would work great in a Coffee Shop AU: I don’t think I can do better than your AkaFuri idea. I'm embarrassingly ignorant of popular fanfiction tropes, to be honest.

A ship that would work great in a sitcom AU: I know this doesn’t say much, but I’ve been kind of shipping Yagi with an OC lately, I’m not sure yet, but I do think they would be funny enough together for this.

I'm happy to do this for another fandom too if anyone wants to know.

Ship asks - why do you ship Bonnie and Elena?

What made you ship it?

They exchanged some longing looks to each other in the first half of season one that made me go "okay, I've looked at some of my friends like that and it wasn't in a friendship way" and I was hooked on the idea that they both had romantic feelings for each other that but due to them growing up in Virginia they just didn't feel like they could be honest about.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

This one is so much simpler than my other answers, but I mean it with my whole heart - girls.

They are just two beautiful girls and I love it.

Ok, but more than that. In season one, they just had each other's back in a way I loved. They both would have died for each other. The knowing looks. Being able to communicate without words.

This is not deep at all, but I also like their height difference. It just makes me think of short feminine girlfriend with her tall, leather jacket wearing girlfriend and I smile.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

When Elena is in bed being sad about Stefan and Bonnie comes in to show her the feather levitation spell, she should have had an "I don't care what my conservative southern town thinks, I love this girl and she's spectacular" moment and kissed her. And then together they could have plotted with Sheila to get rid of the vampires from Mystic Falls once and forever. Which I understand wouldn't have derailed a show called Vampire Diaries but I don't care if it means that we got a soft feminine moment of two beautiful women surrounded by floating feathers.
