Is it the chorus? Is it the repetition? Is it that tambourine?

Ah, noticed my rather rabid obsession with this one, I see. XD

You just have no idea how awesome it is that anyone pays attention at all to the playlist. I do this component of Opus entirely for me, and am always delighted to find someone who actually listens to it, and downright giddy when someone asks about it. So...apologies for the novel below.

This is one of those songs that I wish I could shake people by the shoulders and just pour my feelings into their brain. It's both beautiful and maddening that music means so many different things to different people, because while that makes music so personal and unique in its experience, it means I can't really share the way this song makes me feel and have that be understood. (I have this same problem with Giants, from the Cantata playlist, which I listened to on repeat for probably a month.)

It grabbed me by the throat the first time I heard it and never let go. The chorus feels so intimately Sam, a lullaby with a sharp edge when it comes to his relationship with the stars. I hang so much star imagery on him, and the thought of him tumbling through space with only the stars for a witness to his death makes this hit for me in ways I can't really articulate.

Shepard is such a larger than life figure, and this song feels like it amplifies that mantle Sam wears. So few people see as a human being rather than a symbol, and the concept of bleeding stars feels so perfectly in keeping with Sam's particular brand of Shepard symbolism. Carl Sagan's quote "we are made of star-stuff," always sits in the back of my mind when I write Sam; in some ways he literally bleeds the stars he loves so much.

I did indeed send this song to legionofpotatoes when I did my rather embarrassing feelings dump about what I wanted to evoke with the Mezzo cover. The song thumbnail on Spotify - a woman ragdolling across the clouds - made me think of Alchera, and that hopeless tumble that couldn't be stayed.

(Fair to note there is some similarity between drums in this song and the drums in Giants, so maybe that has something to do with my incurable obsession with this song, ha.)

I wish I had more language for describing music - I am terrible at it - and utterly lack any technical knowledge about composition.

Worth noting that this almost wasn't the intro song for Mezzo - I thought really hard about making it "We Are Here For Each Other" by Patrick Scelina, who composed the intro song I used for Fugue. I liked the symmetry of starting this story just like I did Fugue - with an instrumental rather than something with words. But I couldn't resist "I Bleed Stars," so I compromised, and am currently intending to use "We Are Here For Each Other" to accompany a return to Alchera later in Mezzo.

Hi! First of all, sorry if this ask doesn't make much sense since I'm just kinda throwing this all out here, but this has been bouncing on my mind for a while now and I'm not sure how to put all of it together and thought that maybe you could help haha.

So about the whole mind-soul-body plot and how they interact with each other in JJK. I've been having a string of thoughts about this that's been getting bigger:

-The three clans. I don't know where Gege's unpredictability may take this, but the fact that he left the Zen'in's spot in the Big 3 undecided (ch152) + the Kamo clan up in the air makes me think this plot's kind of important (along the three vengeful spirits, tying the past with present, although that's heavy on theory lane so don't mind it much). And I was thinking, what if each clan are meant to represent/relate to mind (Gojo) body (Zen'in) and soul (Kamo)? When were the 3 big jujutsu clans even founded and why are they the ones? Something about jujutsu's pinnacle being the balance between mind-body-soul?

For example, Gojo's DE targets the mind, Gege himself acknowledged how it's interesting that both sorcerers with a heavenly restriction about enhancing one's body are coincidentally Zen'in (+ the clan's techniques having so much to do with body parts) and this is more of an unreasoned relation, but so far people related to the Kamo (including Yuuji through his half-brothers and Kenjaku) have had the topic of one's soul and their own individuality come up — if they're more curse or human, if they're more duty or their family (Noritoshi).

-> this also led me to Jung too. I'm no expert whatsover so I'm not going to expand on this, but I can also kinda see how the Gojo can represent the persona, Zen'in the shadow and Kamo the self. Since you're the expert in this area I'd love to hear your thoughts and if I'm completely off.

-Lastly I (and many more people I guess) have noticed that from the start of the CG, Gege's been putting Yuuji, Megumi and Yuuta kind of in a level of importance of their own. Not only narratively but also visually, with some panels and art featuring the three of them together/in a trio composition. And while I have another whole separate set of thoughts on "Gojo's successor/next strongest", I do believe Yuuta's relation to the Gojo, Megumi/Zen'in and Yuuji/Kamo has to do with this.

So my mind makes this whole relation between the body-mind-soul topic, the three clans, Yuuji-Megumi-Yuuta (something about the future generation who are against the beggining/cycles coming to an end?) and even jungian psychology but idk how to make a proper statement about where this might lead. Like, I see /something/ there but I'm not sure what, and I was hoping you could help as much as you can because it's rotting my brain lmao.

I'm sending you this because I really love your posts and thoughts on JJK. I'm not sure/can't remember if you've talked about something similar to this though, so if you have I'd love to read it if you can link it!

idk I just feel like, even if Gege does not necessarily expand upon this theme, I think you're onto something there with the whole symbolism for each clan, and that the reason they are the 3 major clans has to do with their relationship to mind is body is soul.

There's something here about how dominating their particular subject, whether mind, body or soul, is what led them to become recognized.

I did try to reframe your thoughts but my agenda sort of failed loooool 🫠. But I'm going to share my logic anyways because my rambling might help you clarify your own thoughts.

Depth Psych mini lecture to taco'bout it under the cut.

Ok so I see it more as:

Zenin is mind.

Gojo is soul.

Kamo is body.

But first, I think it's important to mention that the way Gege uses mind is body is soul confuses me sometimes.

Thing is, we are ideally meant to think of it as if this holy trinity (3) makes up one whole together (4). This "whole" is called the Self in Jungian terms, and it is thought to be the entirety of our existence (mind (includes the shadow) + body + soul).

Also, from a numerology and esoteric standpoint, you also want to consider that four (the Self) symbolizes stability and order, where three (mind + body + soul) is harmonious but not balanced.

AND, sometimes it feels like soul is the Self and encompasses mind + body.

Confusing, right?

It only gets more confusing, but I think this maxim itself needs a reframe that is more in tune with the actual Holy Trinity which states that:

The Father (mind) is not the Son (body) is not the Holy Spirit (spirit), BUT the Father (mind) is God (soul), the Son is God (soul), and the Holy Spirit (spirit) is God (soul).

I do have to say that, if all of these different aspects are indeed aspects of God, then why does the Father ≠ the Holy Spirit ≠ the Son.

If that made any sense at all lol. Thanks for attending this mental gymnastic session and sorry for the late warning.

Like I said... confusing. It doesn't help that Jung was also sort of contradictory when speaking about what the Self was, although there is a general agreement that the Self is the soul as it guides the mind and body through reality. So perhaps it's more accurate to say that the soul = mind + body + spirit.

Anyways, I'm probably thinking too much into this LOL.

Let's start with mind

While the visual of the iceberg to represent the mind is more popular, in Jungian terms the mind is more akin to a lightbulb or a lit candle, right? Everything the light touches is what you are aware of that you are aware about the world. It's also the personality as it is shaped by the interaction between outside factors and your inner world.

But then there's the shadow side of the mind, everything that the light does NOT reach. Not only is it everything that the conscious mind doesn't know that it doesn't know about the world, the shadow is also a sort of repository for any traits and qualities that the conscious mind is not able to accept about itself.

Why am I saying all of this? While I totally agree that the Zenin could represent body because of the whole heavenly restriction bit, to me, because 10 Shadows is the clan's most important technique I think I just made this up but I feel like Gege does imply this lol, we're meant to think of Zenin as mind.

I think it's also relevant how Megumi is undergoing ego death and how you can track his development through nuances like his two divine dogs (black and white) becoming one (grey). This is all mind stuff.

@blog-of-hubris has thoughts on the whole heavenly restriction bit that I am not sure I can do justice.

Then we have body

To me, I am interpreting this way because the clan's cursed technique is related to blood manipulation. Although there is also something here about blood symbolizing the animating principle of the body, so I can see how it could also represent the soul.

Not my agenda crumbling to pieces LOL.

I also love the whole idea you mention around how blood is thicker than water and that's what binds us to certain people.

Soul is next

Admittedly, this is the weakest part of my agenda lol. Something about Gojo being all-seeing and able to have access to all information, I can see why you'd think this is mind given how Gojo's technique works. But to me, that feels more like a byproduct of how Gojo experiences the world and makes sense of it with his mind.

I also think it's pretty relevant that Gojo appears to be able to recognize souls.

Perhaps this even sheds more light on how Gojo knew what Megumi would say about saving Yuji as one anon asked before.

Anyways, that's my shameless agenda.

This is neat! Anyone reading this got any ideas? I feel like my thoughts may or may not be helpful.

Like if we take Yuji (Kamo), Megumi (Zenin) and Yuta (Gojo)... are you thinking about their character arcs? or the larger picture?

I don't know if this helps you but what I'm getting out of the big picture is the idea that there is a wholeness that needs to be achieved.

I'm thinking of how Gege already told us only one of these kids will survive this ordeal (is mind, body or soul surviving?) and also about how a Gojo and a Zenin ancestor respectively once killed each other in battle. So there's something here about how these factions are at war with each other when in reality they are part of a larger whole.

Which is a neat idea if you think about how Nori once told Megumi he would become the pillar that supports the three families.

In more practical terms, think about how your body has a consciousness in its own right that your mind might have a tendency to ignore because it has its own agenda.

Another important detail to keep in mind is that in Jungian Psych, the Self is kind of a dick lmao. Ok not really a dick but... let's put it this way: if your mind has an unbalanced attitude that needs to be corrected (i.e. ignoring the body's wisdom), the Self will orchestrate reality so that your mind and body move into specific experiences according to what the mind needs to learn. The Self doesn't care if these experiences cause suffering, it merely has a function and that function is achieving wholeness and the becoming of who you are meant to be.

So whomever survives has a big task ahead of them in terms of making meaning out of what happened in the past, how the conflict even started, and what can be done differently.

Unfortunately, life doesn't always give us neatly wrapped, happy endings. So I fully expect some ambiguity in what Gege wants his audience to take away from his work--after all, he's writing about meaning-making.

my name is zelda (she/her) and im a queer jewish 20something who struggles quite a bit with illness both physical and mental.

ive always been kind of enthralled by impressionism and what it really means to use suggestion and spirit as a stronger tool than portrayal and form.

i have a particular draw to fantasy and magical aesthetics, especially the world-building within.

i am a serial overthinker, and tend to see alot of meaning and symbolism in things that plainly do not have them.

while yes i am jewish, my relation to faith is complicated. if you see me type “god” im using it in a turn of phrase with no meaning. if you see me type out “g-d” i am being religious. yes i know thats not how its supposed to work. its meaningful to me.

yeah, usually. im not really at the point where i have to close and open them for availability reasons, so shoot me a dm and ill usually be able to give you a response pretty quick on.

price tends to vary by project, and i always set $20 per hour of canvas time as my baseline, but generally simpler stuff like limited detail icons and emojis run in the $20-$30 range, while fully detailed halfbodies tend to run in the $40-$50 range, and fully done fullbodies range more $70-$80. aside from that, backgrounds are a little too context dependent to put a full price estimate on and extra characters can and will cost extra.

usually whatll happen is after laying out the basic price range we’ll talk, and ill thumbnail until we have smth we can agree on, and once weve got an idea of what were going for ill give an estimate that ill try to stick close to, barring any major changes or complications. from then on ill try to send updates whenever i work, and then when im relatively close to finished ill ask for the payment either through paypal or cashapp, after which ill send on the finished piece and any expected variations. in some cases, this may be changed, and payment may be done half at the start, and half when relatively close to completion.

hello its the anon from the other day who asked u abt possibly explaining cof to me. I've decided to use 🔱. how are you doing? I'm a little out of sorts with words at the moment, but I'm still yearning some kind of connection, I feel like you'd understand. Everyone I chat to I get scared I'm being clingy so I just pull back to the point I lose the habit of messaging them and stop. But I'm still so scared of being clingy I go on anon. shrug. anyway i know cof is a half life 2 mod ? but what is it ackshually about .

i get that >_< i still send people anons sometimes, even if i know they'll be able to tell it's me, maybe based on the way i speak, or maybe because i say stuff that's relevant to our relationship... either way, it feels like it's a bit safer that way. i get scared of being clingy too. people like me best from a distance sometimes and it also feels like ... i can lie to myself better that way, you know? like "no i'm not that attached." when i actually am. i'm still doing that sometimes.

yeah, technically it is a half life mod! or at least was developed that way iirc. the story itself, without giving spoilers, is pretty generally a psych horror (i'm gonna put the rest under the cut since i can get really rambly and meandering when i talk sometimes)

cof is a psychological horror revolving around simon (i was gonna link his wiki page but it does have spoilers...). in the beginning of the game we're already introduced to him as someone who is what i'd describe as "pathologically lonely." the opening monologue demonstrates this pretty well.

he gets hit by a car trying to help some guy at the beginning of the game, and then wakes up in like this abandoned ass place and shit gets weirder n weirder (<- sucks at trying to explain without spoilers)... there's a lot that holds symbolism for his own psyche throughout the game, i think, and honestly even though i'm fucking ass at 99% of games i play (like, really ass, to the point where i am extremely selective on who i game with because my only talent is invoking gamer rage by being disoriented as fuuucck) i really enjoy it! i'm usually the type to watch others play games but it's free so i downloaded on impulse after seeing sick ass art on here.

i got super into the game because of the psychological aspect especially. i really like psych horror. especially when its well executed. i'd love to be able to write something of the genre but i've been in a weird brainfog for a little over a year re: creativity and shit. i think i'm coming out of it now.

there's also the obvious aspect (as one could probably determine by my blogging habits LMAO) that i relate a lot to simon in terms of ... isolation, i guess. i've lived in a small town all my life with little to no interaction with my peers (got in free to a private catholic school as a kid and i swear it fucked me up since the first like 9 years of schooling for me were almost completely isolated from my peers) and feeling like being alone is your default state does some weirdddd shit to your head i believe. i'd love to write a more introspective thing about his character one day, when i can gather my thoughts in a less scattered way...

thank you for asking me btw, i really appreciate when people show interest in the things i like. i have a complex that i like things in a shallower and less interesting way than others do, so i tend to keep my interests close to my chest / get a bit embarrassed talking about them, but people have been so much kinder to me as of late than the people i used to surround myself with and it's helping a lot.

I am sorry to ask u about this, because like, idk, it seems kind of an out of a blue thing to ask, but I see u talking about TMNT 2003 and/or TMNT Season 5 a lot (mainly bc of Book 2 of The Tortoise and the Hare fic u are writing, I am guessing, which I am super excited about btw. I love LeoSagi and Leo and Usagi so much), so I thought you might know (and my own thoughts on 2003 aren't super fresh, esp. in comparison to 2012 and Rise and/or even 2007 to some extent. So I am just not super sure myself on this).

So like, I was looking at this post:

(and the reblogs and/or replies to it), and I also wonder why Leo didn't get one either (I also see people in the replies and/or rb's mentioning the tribunal people acting really hostile to Leo after this, and someone mentioned it might have been because it and/or Leo reminded them of Saki/Human Shredder pre-possession. Which might have been why? Hmmm??? I am almost always all for Leo and Shredder parallels though; like 2012 for example has a lot of that, so if this is true, I guess it would be cool. Even if I do think some of those tribunal people were being, super mean); it is a bit weird.

Some people mention it and/or theorize is because he didn't need one and/or he was already worthy (which are both interesting theories), and/or because he got the White Fang Sword later (which might be the case instead).

Anyways, that post has a lot of interesting theories and good Leo and sword symbolism and/or symbolism in general that I always love, but I do still wonder why that dragon furnace decided to go like, "no fam, to Leo", like, poor Leo must have felt so bad about it; the poor dude.

I also wanted to ask; when I saw that post I linked mention the White Fang Sword, it made me super curious about it. Because I love seeing favorite Leo and/or the other turtles too (because I love them too) get cool new weapons and/or gear and/or upgrades and stuff. However, I tried looking it up, and I couldn't find an image of the sword or anything. So I wonder, do you know where I could find a picture and/or image of it, or like, what season the White Fang Sword showed up in? It would have be somewhere between S5-S7, but I am not sure.

P.S.: I got a lot of other things to say about u and friend's art and fics and stuff, because I just found it/them/u guys and I love them, but I wanted to keep this Ask just about the same things basically, and not too scattered all over the place. So you might be getting another Ask/comment/whatever from me sometime in the future. But for now; I leave off w/ this ask, and this P.S., and me hoping this Ask goes through, and doesn't get lost or broken or anything, because it got kind of long.

I pretty much agree with @theunicorncomic-blog entirely on the topic of Leo's swords (which I do get into with TTATH 2). Leo's swords are a piece of him, a literal representation of himself and his soul. Juto told everyone that the forge will either give them a weapon, or the fire will basically incinerate them if they're not worth. Instead, the forge goes out for Leo, suggesting that he already has the weapon he needs.

Faraji mentions later on that Gunshin (the White Fang Sword) was always Leo's, and he was holding onto it for him. Leo also manages to use it while retrieving the first artifact from the kappa demons, but he gets completely knocked out by it. It took ALL he had. Still, once Faraji dies, Leo is able to take up the sword and use it several times without a problem.

I think there's two possible theories, which amounts to unicorn's theory (which I've always thought was the case), and a second one where Faraji was given Gunshin just because he got there first. They were equally worthy of Gunshin, so when the forge was met with Leo, who also was worthy of Gunshin, it just said "oops no more of that one it's already been given byeeee".

Going back to the first theory, why did Leo ever stop using his swords? He couldn't use Gunshin until after Faraji died and gave it to him. Leo is essentially wielding the sword for Faraji. Instead of using his own swords, his own soul, he's fighting with Faraji's instead. He's going to honor Faraji with that sword. And that's when he can use it without getting burned out.

I'm not explaining this great, but I get more in depth with it in No Room for Dying so you'll see my full thoughts there.

As for images! There's this one from the TMNT wiki, which has a lovely article about all the different weapons the turtles have used throughout the different versions!

And here's another, this sword is taller than this boy (5'2") it's fucking MASSIVE.

This one honestly isn't that helpful but doesn't he look so COOL holding that sword completely incorrectly? Great stuff.

OH I FORGOT TO MENTION, the Tribunal becomes really harsh on Leo after this most likely because if he's already THAT spiritually connected to his own blades, to the point where the forge deems them just as worthy as the incredibly powerful mystic weapons that are the Fangs of the Dragon, he's already very powerful. The tribunal don't use mystic weapons (except for Juto but I think his thing is more, he's mystic and because of that his weapons do mystic stuff rather than the other way around). Leo doesn't need them either. The Ancient One mentions that the tribunal is especially hard on Leo because they believe he has great potential, which I believe they got from the reaction of the forge.

Otherwise, why wouldn't Donnie have great potential? He activated his chi by reading a BOOK you can't get any more skilled than that. Baby boy is going at all levels all the time.

Also I think the real reason the show-runners gave them mystic weapons was to sell toys and that's why Leo eventually had to end up with Gunshin but shhhh
