Your Perception of Sound is Valid
I think I've mentioned this already, but one of the problems of misophonia and hyperacusis is that they can be very isolating. Why? Because it's negatively warping your perception of sound in such a way that nobody else is hearing. And especially if the person has not yet realized that they have a hearing disorder, when they react negatively to the sound that nobody else even notices, it can drive them crazy! Because in their mind, they're being overwhelmed by sounds that other people have no problem with, not knowing that the perception is very different.
Here's the thing. Pain will already make you more sensitive to all of the different factors in your environment. But hyperacusis and misophonia both mean that your brain cannot filter out background sounds - it's focusing on them the same way to focuses on the sounds you're supposed to be hearing. So when your brain is getting all that feedback and information at once, it gets overwhelmed very easily in situations in which a person with normal hearing would have no problem.
Something interesting I've noticed about this factor is that people with hyperacusis and misophonia tend to have excellent hearing. Ironically enough, however, it will end up seeming like they have very bad hearing. I'm going to explain it the best way I can:
Imagine you're walking on the street with somebody that has hyperacusis. Assuming you have normal hearing, you're still hearing all of the sounds that are going on in the street, but they're not your focus. Your brain can successfully push these sounds to the back burner, so that you're aware of them, but not trying to actively process them.
A person that has hyperacusis either cannot do this at all or cannot do it at a high enough level. This means that all of the sounds in an environment - cars honking, doors opening, footsteps - they're all being heard on the same level as the conversation you're having with that person! They can't push sounds to the back burner. Either their back burner is too small, or all of their burners are in a row in front of them, and they have to look at all of them at once. They have no back burner.
Now, this is not to be confused with misophonia. In the case of a person that only has misophonia, they might be able to push sounds to the back burner - except for their trigger sounds. These sounds are on the back burner until they are noticed. They are then involuntarily pulled to the front burner so quickly that they spill on the person with misophonia, leaving them with scalding burns and a friend that wants to know "why you're being so dramatic, they're just eating."
So, to everyone with misophonia and hyperacusis: if anyone tells you you're being dramatic, or something's not that loud, or whatever, ignore them. Your hearing is different, so your perception is different. Perception is reality. They aren't experiencing what you're experiencing.
-Keep on feeling the love,

sometimes having misophonia feels like the most debilitating thing ever because not only is it an invisible condition, most people don’t believe that it’s real
and to make matters worse, it feels like everything people do makes me want to scream and it’s often things like eating and it’s not like i can ask them to stop eating… cause yknow that’s how we survive
my entire family teases me for it and purposefully will make my trigger sounds when they want to annoy me
and i can’t even coexist in my own room half the time because my roommate is making sounds that make me want to d*e
i wish there was more awareness/accepting for misophonia

Yandere/dark Missy/Gomez! Master x reader; she fingers you while you're trying to sleep
Tw: yandere/dark content, noncon/dubcon, nsfw/smut, mean femdom, afab reader, vaginal fingering, implied kidnapping/Stockholm syndrome, Missy uses pet names for the reader (in a degrading way) such as poppet, pet, and love, Missy refers to herself as Mummy and Mistress, the reader refers to Missy as Mommy several times and Mistress once
You were curled up, sleeping soundly in the bed you shared with Missy, something that she'd insisted after affectively taking you from your home with no intention of returning you. You were wearing a very loose and baggy t-shirt as pajamas, with nothing underneath. She'd insisted on that, too.
Actually, she'd originally suggested you wear nothing to bed at all, but there were some places where you had to draw the line. Missy thought it was cute how you tried to make yourself seem intimidating and no nonsense when she brought it up; despite your best efforts, it was hard for her to take you seriously.
Still, she wanted to make you feel as though you had at least some control over the situation (even if you really didn't), so she relented and agreed that you were allowed to wear one article of clothing to sleep in. You were certain the TARDIS wardrobe had much more options to choose from, but the selection she gave you was small, so you were stuck with what you got.
It was bad enough being forced to wear so little, and the cold temperature in the room certainly didn't help. You'd pressed your body as close to hers on the bed as possible in hopes of staying warm, not missing the amused chuckle she'd let out when you did so.
After what seemed like ages you were finally able to fall asleep, but your moment of peaceful bliss didn't last very long when you felt Missy's meticulously manicured nails drag across the skin of your upper thigh. You tried to ignore it, but it became harder and harder the further up her fingers creeped.
You let out a sigh of relief when she pulled her hand away, but you should've know she wouldn't stop there; a few minutes later her hand returned, pulling your t-shirt up to your stomach. Although you couldn't see it, you could just imagine the way she was most likely grinning with glee at your most sensitive area being exposed for her own personal enjoyment.
"My, my, poppet, what a pretty little thing you are underneath that dreadful old piece of fabric," she cooed as she began to tease your folds with her fingertips. You cursed yourself inwardly for just how wet you'd already gotten, as that was something you definitely wouldn't be able to hide from her in this moment.
"N- No more, Missy... 'm tryin' to sleep..." You mumbled out tiredly, attempting to shift your body away from hers on the bed. She tsked at you in disapproval, using her free hand to wrap around your hip and hold you in place.
"Now, now, stay still for me, poppet." Her thumb brushed teasingly over your throbbing clit, drawing a pathetic whimper from your lips. "After all, you're Mummy's pet now, and as such, I expect you to behave. Do you understand?"
Whining desperately, you nodded your head, no longer trying to get away as you realized it would do you more harm than good. "Yes, Mommy." Your voice sounded so timid and meek, just like she'd hoped for.
"What a good pet you are for Mummy." She decided to "reward" you by plunging two of her fingers into your dripping hole, giggling in amusement at the cries of protest that came from you.
"M- Mommy- Mommy, it's too much-" You squirmed around on the bed as she held you firmly against her, thrusting her fingers in and out of you at an unforgiving pace.
"Shh, love, you're alright. Mummy's got you," Missy murmured affectionately in your ear, her hand caressing your hip gently. "If you do well for your Mistress, I'll let you go back to sleep afterwards, okay?"
All you could do was nod in agreement, too overwhelmed to string a real sentence together. "Please, Mommy..." You babbled out almost incoherently, trying to move your hips up to meet where her fingers were. "Mommy- Mommy, please..."
"Stay still, poppet. Mummy didn't give you her permission to move, now did she?" She spoke to you in a firm tone, scolding your disobedience. Her fingers moved deeper inside you as she brought her thumb back up to your clit, rubbing there harshly.
Your back arched upwards as pants and moans exited your mouth uncontrollably. Tears of desperation filled your eyes as the feeling of pleasure became too much. "I'm sorry, Mommy, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"You should really learn to obey your Mistress," she continued as if you hadn't even spoken, her grip on the side of your body becoming almost painful as she held you in place. "Mummy doesn't like having to be mean, pet, you know that."
You whimpered loudly in response, staying as still as you possibly could. "Yes, Mistress," you said in a soft and quiet voice, biting your lip as you tried to muffle your pitiful sounds.
"Good, love. Stay still for Mummy." She smirked at the way your body tensed up as you started getting close, your eyes looking up at hers pitifully as you searched for her acceptance. "Oh, alright. Since you've done so well for me despite your brief moments of misbehaving, you can cum."
Letting out a high pitched whine, you finished on her fingers, your cum covering her hand. She carefully pulled her fingers out from inside you, holding them up to your mouth. "Open," she commanded, not even giving you the chance to part your lips fully before shoving them inside.
You gagged some at first due to the sudden intrusion, your tears from earlier finally making their way out of your eyes and streaming down your cheeks. Knowing what she wanted, you sucked on her fingers, cleaning them off from where you'd unintentionally gotten them dirty when you came.
"Good pet," she praised in a loving way, pulling her fingers out of your mouth with a soft pop. She then let go of your hip and used her hands to pull your shirt back down over your body, leaning over to press a soft kiss to your head once she was done. "There you are, love. Go back to sleep now."
She didn't have to tell you twice. You rolled over onto your side and cuddled up close to her, nuzzling your face into her chest as you got comfortable again. You soon fell back asleep, drifting off to the sound of Missy humming some old Gallifrean lullaby.

long long post with more detail. seriously very very long🌹🌹
1. Temperamental Inhibition: Timid, cautious in new and unfamiliar situations, restrained, usually evident from infancy on. Separation anxiety as a young child.
2. Social Anxiety Symptoms: Over 90% of children with Selective Mutism have social anxiety. Uncomfortable being introduced to people, teased or criticized, being the center of attention, bringing attention to himself/herself, perfectionist (afraid to make a mistake), shy bladder syndrome (Paruresis), eating issues (embarrassed to eat in front of others).
3. Social Being: The majority of children/teens with SM have age appropriate social skills and are on target developmentally, although some do not. Most children on the autism spectrum struggle with speech/language skills, social skills and have developmental challenges.
4. Physical Symptoms: MUTISM, tummy ache, nausea, vomiting, joint pains, headaches, chest pain, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nervous feelings, scared feelings.
5. Appearance: Many children with Selective Mutism have a frozen-looking, blank, expressionless face and stiff, awkward body language with lack of eye contact when feeling anxious. This is especially true for younger children in the beginning of the school year or then suddenly approached by an unfamiliar person. They often appear like an animal in the wild when they stand motionless with fear! The older the child, the less likely he/she is to exhibit stiff, frozen body language. Also, the more comfortable a child is in a setting, the less likely a child will look anxious. For example, the young child who is comfortable and adjusted in school, yet is mute, may seem relaxed, but mutism is still present. One hypothesis is that heightened sympathetic response causes muscle tension and vocal cord paralysis.
6. Emotional: When the child is young, he/she may not seem upset about mutism since peers are more accepting. As children age, inner turmoil often develops and they may develop the negative ramifications of untreated anxiety (see below).
7. Developmental Delays: A proportion of children with Selective Mutism have developmental delays. Some have multiple delays and have the diagnosis of an autistic spectrum disorder, such as Pervasive Developmental Disorder, or Autism. Delays include motor, communication and/or social development.
8. Sensory Integration Dysfunction (DSI) symptoms, Processing Difficulties/Delays: For many children with SM, sensory processing difficulties are the underlying reason for being 'shut down' and their mutism. In larger, more crowded environments where multiple stimuli are present (such as the classroom setting), where the child feels an expectation, sensory modulation specifically, sensory defensiveness exists. Anxiety is created causing a 'freeze' mode to take place. The ultimate 'freeze mode' is MUTISM.
9. Common symptoms: Picky eater, bowel and bladder issues, sensitive to crowds, lights (hands over eyes, avoids bright lights), sounds (dislikes loud sounds, hands over ears, comments that it seems loud), touch (being bumped by others, hair brushing, tags, socks, etc), and heightened senses, i.e., perceptive, sensitive, Self-regulation difficulties (act outing, defiant, disobedient, easily frustrated, stubborn, inflexible, etc).
10. Common symptoms within a classroom environment: Withdrawal, playing alone or not playing at all, hesitation in responding (even nonverbally), distractibility, difficulty following a series of directions or staying on task, difficulty completing tasks. Experience at the Smart Center dictates that sensory processing difficulties may or may not cause learning or academic difficulties. Many children, especially, highly intelligent children can compensate academically and actually do quite well. MANY focus on their academic skills, often leaving behind 'the social interaction' within school. This tends to be more obvious as the child ages. What is crucial to understand is that many of these symptoms may NOT exist in a comfortable and predictable setting, such as at home. In some children, there are processing problems, such as auditory processing disorder, that cause learning issues as well as heightened stress.
11. Behavioral: Children with Selective Mutism are often inflexible and stubborn, moody, bossy, assertive and domineering at home. They may also exhibit dramatic mood swings, crying spells, withdrawal, avoidance, denial, and procrastination. These children have a need for inner control, order and structure, and may resist change or have difficulty with transitions. Some children may act silly or act out negatively in school, parties, in front of family and friends. WHY? These children have developed maladaptive coping mechanisms to combat their anxiety.
12. Co-Morbid Anxieties: Separation anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), hoarding, Trichotillomania (hair pulling, skin picking), Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Specific phobias, Panic Disorder.
13. Communication Difficulties: Some children may have difficulty responding nonverbally to others, i.e., cannot point/nod in response to a teachers question, or indicate thank you by mouthing words. For many, waving hello/goodbye is extremely difficult. However, this is situational. This same child can not only respond nonverbally when comfortable, but can chatter nonstop! Some children may have difficulty initiating nonverbally when anxious, i.e., have difficulty or are unable to initiate play with peers or go up to a teacher to indicate need or want.
14. Social Engagement Difficulties: When one truly examines the characteristics of a child with Selective Mutism, it is obvious that many are unable to socially engage properly. When confronted by a stranger or less familiar individual, a child may withdraw, avoid eye contact, and 'shut down,' not only leaving a child speechless but preventing him/her from engaging with another individual. Greeting others, initiating needs and wants, etc., are often impossible for many children. Many shadow their parents in social environments often avoiding any social interaction at all. The common example given is; 'A child in grocery story can sing, laugh and talk loudly, but as soon as someone confronts him/her, the child freezes, avoids and withdraws from social interaction. As the child ages, freezing and shutting down rarely exist, but the child remains either noncommunicative or will respond nonverbally after an indeterminate amount of warm up time.

Diluc has misophonia
Misophonia (or selective sound sensitivity syndrome, sound-rage) is a disorder of decreased tolerance to specific sounds or their associated stimuli or cues.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I'd buy that. He's definitely sensitive to booming sounds and things that might sound like a Roar. So Stormterror was a lot of fun for him.
I think he's also susceptible to low chatter, like whispering or hushed talking. Like almost white noise level. You can't even really make out what's being said, just that people are talking. If the clatter is louder like it is at the pub, then I think Diluc can manage, But quiet where he can't pick into a singular conversation. That's hard.
And I think Kaeya knows... I think Kaeya talks a lot to Diluc and makes Dilus listen to him because he knows that despite their fights, Diluc will still listen to him first.

Why Rafal Is (Likely) the Elder Brother
It makes so much more sense for Rafal to be the elder brother of the pair. I doubt the brothers’ birth order will ever be revealed, because, so far, it’s irrelevant to telling the story as we know it. But, it could add to the story if we knew. I picked up on some possible references to fairy tales. Also, again, I just love parallels. And, not only that, I felt like analysis.
Disclaimer: Since this is informal, I didn’t want to bother to cite sources. Part of what I’ve used represents my own prior knowledge, and was cherry-picked to fit my views. I’m well-aware that I was selective in choosing evidence, so prepare for an evident bias. Though, arguments contrary to my own are welcome!
1. BEHAVIOR -
Rhian’s characterization is younger, more emotional, “weaker,” dependent, in need of protection, partly because he’s Good and cannot Attack, easily taken advantage of, insecure of himself, vulnerable, and possibly, gullible. He is just too easy to exploit, potentially incapable of being alone, and clingy as well. I headcanon that as a child he had separation anxiety in regards to Rafal because he relies on Rafal so often. His attachment is clearly present. Also, as for being emotional, we know he’s sensitive to physical pain, and his reaction to Hook’s betrayal is that he sobs. In contrast, Rafal shuts down emotionally. Also: Alas, poor Rhian! He believes in thought crime! He deserves better, and he blamed himself for his Evil deeds, which are only partially his fault.
Furthermore, Rafal has classic eldest sibling psychology in his character (if not actual oldest child syndrome).
From Google searches, I've managed to find these traits which apply to him. (Partly paraphrased, didn’t think it mattered if I cited.) Thus, common characteristics of oldest children include:
“Bossy and/or dominating behavior.” (Definitely present in TLEA and Rise.)
“They might want to lead and dominate/Potential for leadership.” (Completely and 100% true. Rafal himself thrives in leadership, even if his victims or students don’t when he’s in power because of all that he subjects them to.)
“High self-esteem.” (Seems obvious enough. His ego.)
“Unhealthy competitive behavior.” (Sounds like how the brothers thought to convert Aladdin to their side and the runaway train at the Snow Ball.)
“Strong-willed and independent.” (He deserts his brother. Need I say more?)
“Tightly-wound.” (I think this crops up with the eventual anxiety that manifests when he is reunited with Rhian, like when he looks into Rhian’s eyes after Rhian tells him off about his Nevers’ ‘SOS’ signs.)
“A sense of responsibility, and ambition.” (Yes, usually.)
“Nevertheless, the stress that comes from feeling ‘dethroned’ by the birth of younger siblings may also result in some less than positive qualities such as jealousy and competitiveness.” (It is not necessarily jealousy in Rafal’s case, but the competitiveness is there. Rhian has it too. And, the competition was probably amplified by the fact that they are so close in age, as that happens in siblings.)
“They’re also typically more confident and assertive.” (True.)
“They might become obsessive.” (Nothing could be more true, haha.)
“The oldest child becomes a protector of the younger ones. It is a good quality until it turns extreme.” (Self-explanatory.)
“If you find your child going overboard trying to make something perfect to the level of obsession, it is unhealthy for them and the younger siblings. Even the younger children may get used to the protection and become dependent, while the oldest ones could lose themselves to their siblings and become obsessive.” (Could be true for the most part. I could imagine Rafal locking Rhian up just to keep him out of trouble.)
“Firstborns are particularly anxious.” (I headcanon that Rafal has some measure of anxiety, even a slight anxiety disorder, in that he leaps too far in his mind, thinking the whole Woods will be thrust into peril if his brother, by some miracle, manages to accomplish converting every last soul to Good’s side. It’s a reasonable worry, but still—it’s largely unrealistic. In his mind, he goes dark and far, fast. To the more remote possibilities, possibly.)
“They might become controlling.” (What better adjective is there to describe him with?)
“Overachieving, determined, opinionated.” (Perhaps, the drive to become School Master. We don’t know if he wanted the position, but he must have? He relishes it after all. He probably has strong opinions, and is more vocal about them than Rhian is about his. Also, he must have held some ideas as to how he’d rule the Schools before taking on the role.)
“The pressure of taking charge of all responsibilities.” (Sounds about right. He fixed almost everything that went tangibly wrong in Rise, set everything right briefly before he went off alone again after the books. And, he potentially can’t trust Rhian to do anything alone ever again. Too bad the results of his effort didn’t last.)
2. FAIRY-TALE CONVENTION -
The eldest brother is typically a wicked elder brother. Sometimes, there’s multiple, abusive, wicked elder brothers, all in line for the throne or an inheritance, before their good, youngest brother, who is usually a virtuous, selfless, pious, saintly, God-fearing (Storian-revering?) youth of a prince.
Less commonly and more present in modern fiction, the youngest brother, since he’s not the heir, will be jealous, and will be evil himself. This could reflect how Rhian gravitates toward, is attracted to, or is lured in by Evil men.
Often, the elder brother(s) is always cruel to the younger. The youngest is always the most pure and good soul, can put up with abuse silently, and is most commonly rescued. He will trust too easily, leaves himself too vulnerable, and is open to deception as a result. Again, this reminds me slightly of the time Rafal turned his skin invisible when he spooked Rhian in that one flashback from Rise. Though, that act wasn’t mean-spirited on Rafal’s part.
Plus, there’s the many versions of the classic Brothers Grimms’ tale where elder brothers go off to seek their fortunes, foolishly disregard or insult a person in need of help, and return home, punished by a curse. Then, the younger, “worthless” brother goes out and succeeds at that which his brothers couldn’t, usually with magical aid of some kind and by means of the kindness of his heart.
Also, that younger siblings as the weakest and most vulnerable up against foes makes high, life-or-death stakes all the more riveting. It’s good storytelling practice.
An aside: And we wonder why Rafal has trust issues—
His brother, his own brother, trusted a man he never wanted to hire, and made him his replacement and substitute in some powerful role.
Oh, I bemoan (and laugh at) Rhian's foolhardy decisions. Sometimes, I like to anticipate chaotic results while reading though. It's fun when everything amps up to a crescendo, to the payoff.
But anyway, his brother trusted two men he shouldn't have trusted, fell in love, etc., but doesn't. Trust. His. Own. Brother. AAHHH. This is so incredibly frustrating, and the crux of Rise’s plot.
So frustrating. He's your idiot, Rafal. So don't kill him (please.)
How can this be? Rhian trusts the wrong people, and when his brother comes back for him, to save him, he doesn’t trust Rafal!
You little ingrate, Rhian! Rafal is re-committed. Even if you can’t parse out his loyalties. Don’t distrust him because he’s Evil. Just because of that, really? What about all the men you went after? At the moment, he’s committed to upholding the Balance. And he’s already under a lot of stress. Please don’t doubt him, Rhian. I mean, look at him. He’s suffered so much. For you. And he’s got anxiety. Look at him. The intensity... anxiety in his eyes. (Referring to the scene after Vulcan's death when Rhian observes all of Rafal's renovations to Evil.) I feel so sorry for him and his impending tragedy. He’s going to try to prevent the unpreventable, the inevitable, the prophecy, for you.
If only you knew, Rhian.
And, Rafal is definitely the world-weary one, and the skeptic, through-and-through. How is he not exhausted?
3. A LOVELY PARALLEL TO SOPHIE AND AGATHA - (You knew this was coming, didn’t you? They are my reference point to Rise. The other set of twins.)
Sophie is older and the Evil twin, and so, Rafal should be too. Their roles are perfectly set as they are, and Rafal and Sophie are so similar.
But honestly, the more visible narrative parallels I thought were the Rhian and Sophie parallels: falling in love too easily, being exploited for power, and being taken advantage of overall.
4. BONUS FAIRY-TALE CONVENTION -
For his poor judgment, Rhian could easily be called “clod,” “simpleton,” “little Simpleton,” “the fool,” “the laughingstock,” “the lucky fool.” Maybe, “the fool that Fortune smiles upon.” (Not really though, considering his run of luck.) Perhaps, “the unlucky fool” then.
Like the typical youngest sons, he could be the lucky one, if the plot gave him the chance to be.
Maybe, he’d be “mute,” or “dumb” by its secondary definition. He could be “the mute” compared to Rafal who does have more of a voice, who discloses his own, harsh opinions. By that, I mean, Rhian is more likely to lie to save face because he seems image-obsessed, and he is more likely to lie to avoid trampling anyone’s feelings, I would think. In my interpretation, Rafal cares not for what anyone thinks. He cares for no one’s opinion, and just is.

going through the oxford textbook of headache syndromes and i'm going to start stabbing something
These studies all point toward low levels of serotonin in migraine patients between attacks, suggesting that these reduced central nervous system serotonin levels could increase the propensity to migraine. As with many of the neurochemical and physiological changes observed in migraine, it is not clear whether these observed changes in serotonin are a cause or effect of migraine. While the efficacy of triptans, selective agonists of 5-HT1B, D, and F receptors, suggests a role for serotonin in migraine therapy, the lack of efficacy of most selective serotonin uptake inhibitors as migraine preventive therapies argues against low levels of brain serotonin as a primary causative mechanism of migraine. Regardless of the exact role of the serotonin system in migraine, it clearly remains a critically important therapeutic target.
why has NO ONE EVER have told me there's a connection between migraines and depression and serotonin.
fuck my 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) receptors. they ruin everything.
also:
Migraine and other primary headache disorders commonly have sensitivity to light, sound, touch, and smell as prominent symptoms.
the implications in this that the migraines make the autism worse is just.

High Sensitivity And Specificity In Fetal Gender Identification In The First Trimester, Utilizing Ultrasound And Noninvasive Prenatal Screening Nips In Twin Pregnancies, A Potential Research Full Text
In reality, those unique indicators don’t normally seem on the human skull until puberty at the earliest. These features are used to determine intercourse when excavating archeological sites and looking at human remains. DNA check to identify the gender of your baby from 6 weeks gestation, ninety nine.9% correct. In some cases, a transvaginal ultrasound may be performed to capture more direct or detailed pictures. The screening take a look at for Down syndrome and two chromosomal disorders, trisomy thirteen and trisomy 18, used at this stage of being pregnant is known as a mixed check. It includes a blood check and a take a look at to measure fluid behind the baby’s neck (nuchal translucency) with an ultrasound scan. Ultrasound (often referred to as sonography, because it relies on sound waves) is a non-invasive, low-risk imaging methodology that can be utilized to determine your due date and make sure the number of developing fetuses. A healthcare provider could display screen for Down syndrome or rule out an ectopic pregnancy. At sixteen weeks i wouldnt pay further for the 4d as you wont see too significantly better wait til practically 30 weeks. Finding proof of discrimination within the office is notoriously tough. The legal onus of proving an employer made a biased hiring determination falls on individuals, who don’t have the ability to understand how an employer behaved towards different candidates. Sam Shaddox, the overall counsel at SeekOut, said the tool’s outcomes are drawn from over a billion profiles listed from vocational, publicly-available knowledge sources, like LinkedIn and Github. Hundreds of companies have already used other SeekOut services, he stated, together with tech firms and Fortune 10 companies. The gender of an unborn child is likely one of the parents’ precept curiosities, for a lot of going private is the one option to accurately decide the gender. This is why Baby Scanning strive to supply a service that's each professional and inexpensive. Some research studies have reported quite excessive accuracy charges, notably after 12 weeks of pregnancy (Bogers et al 2018, Kearin et al 2014, Manzanares et al 2016, Schaefer et al 2023). This is most likely not your first child and understanding the gender helps with adorning the room and also getting ready siblings for the model new arrival. As we are violently thrust into allergy season - and with it, disgusting amounts of sniffling and nose-dragging and coughing and throat clearing - here are some tips and tricks to help you not lose your mind :)
- Always have some gum with you. The sound of your own chewing will help to block out the sound of everything else!
- If you have long hair, wear it down. It helps to block your peripheral vision, which makes it easier to try to ignore people making mouth sounds so you don't snap and them and sound like a crazy person.
- Bring backup ear protection! I usually have headphones on, but headphones can die. So in addition to the headphones, I have 2 pairs of earbuds and 3 pairs of earplugs in my bag, plus a portable battery to charge my headphones (which I have had to use before).
- Also, know how to make makeshift earplugs (just in case). You will need gum for this! Depending on how big your ears are, chew up 2-3 pieces of gum until they're soft enough to easily mold, but not too soft to easily hold a shape. Wrap in paper towel/aluminum foil (just enough to cover the gum so it won't stick to anything) and stick it in your ear.
*this is not foolproof, and I wouldn't recommend doing it on a regular basis because there is still a potential that gum will get stuck in your ear, but it has gotten me out of some emergency situations.
- Remember that these people are not trying to hurt you. They don't know that you have misophonia, and don't realize that their sounds affect you. They have no malicious intent towards you.
-Keep on feeling the love,

I wanna mention something I've been thinking about a lot. Back in middle school and high school, when my triggers started getting really bad, I used to have intense intrusive thoughts that revolved around bringing harm to others. I would feel strongly compelled to lash out against people that were triggering me, I wanted to attack them with whatever object was nearest. Needless to say, it was upsetting, but my thoughts were overwhelmingly violent towards others.
Back then, I did have a habit of hurting myself in minor ways when I was overwhelmed, mainly by scratching myself with my nails to take out my aggression.
Now, I don't know what changed, but it's not like that anymore. It's as though all that rage I feel has suddenly turned inwards. Now, when I am triggered, I have intrusive thoughts about suicide and self harm. I want to bash in my own head, I want to cut into my skin, I want to hit myself. There is also a desire to generally hit and break objects around me. I do not know why it changed since high school, and I'm not sure it's for the better.

Migraines - Neural Causes and Prevention Strategies
Tumblr media
Migraines affect millions of people around the world. Unlike headaches, migraines are characterized by severe episodic pain that typically targets one side of the head. Ongoing research aims to unravel the causes of migraines in hopes of developing effective treatment and prevention strategies.
One of the well-researched focal points related to migraines is the trigeminal nerve. Also known as the fifth cranial nerve, the trigeminal nerve carries sensory signals, including pain signals, to the brain. To successfully carry these signals, the nerve has specific receptors called transient receptor potential channels, or TRPs. TRPs identify stimuli and translate them into electrical signals. The trigeminal nerve then sends these signals to the brain. Research focusing on TRPs has shown that modifying their activity can be key in treating migraines.
For example, Botulinum toxin is a specific chemical that interferes with TRPs. More commonly known as Botox, the chemical is used for cosmetic purposes, but recent research demonstrates its beneficial effects for migraine management. Administrated as forehead injections, Botox sessions have proven successful in reducing the frequency of migraines. In 2010, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox for the therapeutic management of chronic migraine.
Another chemical target for migraine therapy is calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). CGRP activates nerves that sense pain, which later communicate and stimulate the trigeminal nerve. The trigeminal nerve itself also releases CGRP. Research findings illustrate that inhibiting CGRP activity using anti0CGRP monoclonal antibodies can prevent migraines. However, these CGRP inhibitors may result in side effects such as high blood pressure and constipation.
The trigeminal nerve also controls eight facial muscles, most of which are in charge of mastication movements such as biting and chewing. It may be overstimulated and, as a result, triggers dilation of the blood vessels in the brain, leading to migraines and other types of headaches. Migraines caused by the trigeminal nerve can manifest in various ways. In addition to unilateral throbbing headaches, they may also be associated with nausea, vomiting, and increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli, including light and sound. The overstimulation of the trigeminal nerve can be due to jaw-related disorders like temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome. In TMJ cases, painful jaw movements can overstimulate the trigeminal nerve and cause migraines.
Common methods to prevent migraines are largely drug-based. A wide range of medications that treat high blood pressure, seizures, and depression can prevent migraines. Beta-blockers like propranolol mainly reduce blood pressure but are also useful in migraine prevention. Some people use topiramate as an anti-seizure medication to prevent migraines. Two different types of antidepressants – tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors – can also be helpful.
External stimuli can also trigger migraines. People experiencing high levels of stress often struggle with frequent migraines. Certain foods, weather changes, and poor sleep are linked to migraines. Therefore, people can rely on non-pharmaceutical methods of managing stress and regulating their sleep or diet to limit migraines. Certain vitamin and mineral supplements, including vitamin B2 and magnesium, could help prevent migraines without causing significant side effects.

Benefits of Mindful Eating | Solh Wellness
One method of practicing mindfulness is mindful eating, which tries to increase awareness of one's current thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. Studies suggest that eating disorders, anxiety, and other mental health conditions can all benefit from mindfulness meditation.
Slowing down mealtimes on purpose and focusing solely on one's own nourishment are the foundations of mindful eating. By substituting deliberate actions for automatic ones, this technique seeks to recover control over eating habits and reduce mindless nibbling.
Tumblr media
How to eat mindfully:
Pause and Assess Hunger: Before you eat, take a time to consider how hungry you are.
Engage the Senses: While preparing food, pay attention to the flavors, fragrances, and sounds it makes, such as the rhythmic chopping of vegetables or the rustling of the packaging.
Serve Mindfully: Give your body a portion of food that matches to its level of hunger in order to satiate its demands without going overboard.
Savor Each Bite:Being attentive of your eating includes taking your time to savor your meals. Savor each flavor, texture, and element of your food by chewing it fully.
Maintain Hunger Sensitivity: As you eat, be aware of your body's hunger cues. Consider whether you still need to eat after you have finished a meal.
Recognize Fullness: Stop eating if there is food on your plate but you are already starting to feel full. As a signal, gently shift the plate to the side.
Seek Satisfaction, Not Excess: The goal is to feel satisfied but not stuffed. in order to refrain from unwise overeating. Recognize your body's messages.
After-Meal Reflection: Look at how your body responds after eating. Do you feel entirely full or stuffed but still ravenous? Consider it for a moment without making an opinion.
Embrace Feelings: Recognize your feelings without passing judgment, whether they are ones of satisfaction, hunger, fullness, guilt, or anything else.
Benefits of Mindful Eating:
Tuned Hunger and Fullness: By becoming aware of your body's hunger and fullness cues, you can prevent overeating and emotional eating.
Weight Management: Mindful eating can assist in weight loss and help you keep it off by teaching you to stop eating when you're satisfied.
Stress Reduction: By encouraging relaxation and reducing stress, mindful eating can lower cortisol levels.
Digestive Harmony: The advantages of stress reduction through mindful eating may support digestion, particularly in situations like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Escape from Overeating: Mindful eating reverses the cycle of overeating and binging by forming good eating habits.
Satisfaction Savoured: You can fully enjoy each bite when there are no outside distractions, which helps you avoid overeating and leaves you satisfied.
Conclusion:
By slowing down and increasing awareness, the mindful eating practice adds intention to the act of eating. Mindful eating includes a variety of practices such as gauging one's hunger, utilizing the senses, serving with consideration, enjoying each meal, and taking fullness into account. Its practice has numerous advantages, including improved hunger cues, better digestion, less stress, freedom from overeating, and increased enjoyment. In addition to promoting mindfulness, harmony, and wellbeing, mindful eating opens the door to a deeper relationship with food.
