My 5 Favorite Legal J-Dramas
I love them because they have perfect balance of seriousness and humour, not too dark and not too comedic. And the chemistry of the main leads are fun to watch with their constant bickering. 😂
1. Hero (2001)

Kuryu (Kimura Takuya) is an unconventional prosecutor who has a habit of investigating the criminals himself before prosecuting, which agitates his paralegal, Amamiya (Matsu Takako) has it delays the process while more cases are piling up, and often conflicts with the police who thinks he does not trust their investigation skills.
The series is so good that it has a second season with a newcomer played by Keiko Kitagawa, a special episode with Haruka Ayase and a movie with both Keiko Kitagawa and Matsu Takako. I like their chemistry, not just between the main leads but the supporting characters as well that got pulled into Kimura Takuya's shenanigans.
2. Miss Justice (2018)

A similar tale of a public prosecutor, Ririko (Yoshitaka Yuriko) whose strong sense of justice get in her daily work as she takes time to solve each cases diligently, playing the role of a "detective" to ascertain that the suspects are really guilty before she prosecutes them. However, it only delays her other cases which snowballs.
This agitates her older and experienced paralegal (Yasuda Ken) who is tasked to ensure she completes each task on time without delay. But over time, both him and the entire department who got pulled into her shenanigans finally understands her reasoning and begin to respect her as a fellow prosecutor and not as a newbie.
3. Police and Prosecutor (2023)

Gota (Kiritani Kenta) and Minami (Higa Manami) are siblings who work as a law enforcer and a paralegal respectively. She works for an ambitious public prosecutor, Shuhei (Higashide Masahiro) whose values and principles are opposite of Gota, which often puts them at odds with one another when they work together on every case.
While Minami and Shuhei know the grey world in their line of work, Gota is a brash detective who only sees thing in black and white which often puts them at odds with one another. But their opposing personalities and styles of work eventually help to solve the cases in arresting and prosecuting the right criminal.
4. Ishiko and Haneo (2022)

Ishiko (Kasumi Arimura) is an obstinate law graduate who aspired to be a lawyer but after failing the bar four times, she gives up her dreams and works as a paralegal at her father's private law firm where she met the prodigy Haneo (Nakamura Tomoya) who passed the bar on first attempt due to his photographic memory.
Ishiko is a bit insecure in having to work with a prodigy while Haneo is actually terrible at adapting that he often mask it with his "superior intellectual". Their different personalities and styles of working contradict each other as the two of them, with their own inferiority complexes, are thrown together to solve cases.
5. Binta : Love and Law (2022)

Minowa (Matsumoto Toshio) is a former delinquent who doesn't have a regular job and never really thought seriously about life until he had to look after his young step-sister left behind by his late father. He lands a job as clerk, working for a strong headed lawyer, Natsumi (Yamaguchi Sayaka) who is dumbfounded by his "stupidity".
But his strong sense of justice is a welcoming change that she needed having work in a corporate law firm surrounded by "vultures" that the two decided to start their own private firm to genuinely help people that really need help and not simply for the big money. But with each case, they realize things are not as simple as they think.

Estoy en casa
(*¹) para ser honesta, ni yo termino de comprender al 100% la expresión 前へならえ (mae e narae), así que corríjanme si me equivoco o faltó algo. Hasta donde tengo entendido, es una expresión que se usa tanto en el ejército como también en las escuelas primarias y secundarias para indicar a las personas que formen una fila. Todos tienen que estirar sus brazos hacia la persona de adelante para calcular que estén separados por las mismas distancias.
Esto tal vez ya sea conclusión más subjetiva, pero el uso de la expresión en la canción me lleva a la imagen mental de una escuela en la que se les hace a los alumnos formar para ir haciéndoles uno por uno las preguntas que siguen después de eso en la letra: "¿Los pasos de quién seguirás? ¿En qué te convertirás?", como si esas fuesen cosas que tendrían que tener claras desde temprana edad.
(*²) en realidad, 缶けり (kankeri) es un juego un poco diferente a las escondidas, y una traducción más literal al nombre del juego sería "patear la lata", lo ajusté de esa manera para que se entienda tanto como sea posible. En esta clase de juegos infantiles en Japón, la persona que "las queda" o que "las toca" (dependiendo de cómo se diga en cada país) es llamada "oni", que literalmente significa "demonio" en español. En el kankeri, se tiene que ubicar una lata en el suelo y dibujar un círculo al rededor de ella en un radio de 5 a 10 metros. Una persona de entre los jugadores debe patear la lata fuera del círculo y el "oni" tiene que ir a buscarla para ponerla de vuelta en el centro del círculo. Ese, más el tiempo que tarde el "oni" en contar (igual que en las escondidas), es el tiempo que aprovecha el resto de los jugadores para ir a esconderse. Durante el juego, el "oni" debe permanecer dentro del círculo mientras busca con la mirada a los jugadores. Si encuentra a uno, pisa la lata y dice su nombre, y el jugador nombrado tiene que acercarse al círculo y permanecer sobre la línea. Mientras tanto, los otros jugadores tienen que intentar acercarse sin ser vistos y patear la lata. Si alguien lo logra, libera a todos los jugadores que habían sido atrapados para que puedan volver a esconderse; y así sucesivamente hasta que se logre atrapar a todos.
Lo que se intenta expresar con esta frase es que se siente como si lo que es considerado "correcto" o "incorrecto" o lo que "está bien" y lo que "está mal" fuera decidido con un piedra, papel o tijeras, igual que aleatoriamente el "oni" atrapa a las personas que van a estar en el círculo en el kankeri, o tal vez de la misma manera en que se decide quién va a ser el “oni” en el juego. Aunque, otra vez, esta puede que esta sea una conclusión más subjetiva.

I have done the movies list before and now I feel like how about the doramas hehe well anyway as always these are all my opinions, we all have different opinions so don’t take this too seriously. Doing this 4 dorama per post just like before with the movies.

NOBUTA WO PRODUCE  |  RATING: 10/10
- 2018 and I could still sing and dance to Seishun Amigo that’s how addicted I was to this dorama - Akira-shock! Lol Yamapi was too adorable in this - Plus young beauties Maki Horikita and Erika Toda 
NODAME CANTABILE  |  RATING: 10/10
- This was a perfect live action adaptation - Juri Ueno is forever Nodame in my eyes glad she still had the same hairstyle up to now - Made me love classical music
SEIGI NO SE  |  RATING: 9/10
- Ahhhh I want a season 2 of this! - I learned some stuff here, like how a prosecutor's job is different to that of the detectives, I've always thought they're kind of the same hehe - The cast was good! Aihara-san is really funny and Otsuka's reaction every time Ririko gets too close is priceless - Each episode had a different case, each case looks simple at first but then you realize "ah this kind of complication could actually happen"

- I've read the manga so uhhh I think the manga was better - The thing is it has that selfishness that I hate about shoujo manga leads - This is Aoi Morikawa's acting debut and from this dorama she has grown into a great actress today

My opinion. 
There are three episodes for now with subtitles and I can tell that I already love this show ! It’s just so hilarious, emotionnal and refreshing. The main character, Ririko, is very touching and funny. She always tries her best but need to deal with her empathy and her spontaneity with everyone and moreover the suspects. Aihara, her assistant-prosecutor, is so hilarious because he is like a sister-in-law who always tries to control Ririko and give her advices. Their relationship evolves little by little in something very touching like father and daughter.

And honestly I just love their chemistry and how Aihara can be so done with Ririko’s naivety but how he can be so proud of her when she succeed. Also the running gag where everyone think Aihara is the prosecutor and...nope “plot twist that young woman is the prosecutor” makes me smile ^^

Richard  Ranasinghe de Vulpian’s Backstory is Very Queer: The A-Spec Amendment
I know, I know. I just posted the essay this morning, and I already have an amendment? Yes, I do, and here’s why:
When I wrote the initial essay, I kept things to an overview for a lot of reasons, but the initial concept I wanted for it was “queerness” and the way that essay was structured dove into a lot of experiences from a lot of different labels under the queer umbrella and a lot of experiences that are universal to the community. There’s a reason why it’s a united community. I just wanted to use that essay to write about queerness.
Also, technically, this one isn’t going to be about backstory, per se.
I didn’t specify any labels for Richard in that essay except “queer” and “cis” because those are what I know he is. Richard never labels himself in the series, and it’s because of the way the series is, I think that’s at least half intentional. Labels get used…sometimes in the series, but usually not in reference to actual characters, just as theoreticals.
But you know what I like? Labels. And Richard’s a fictional character so he can’t protest when I staple some on him. Labels like “ace” and “aro.” Because that’s what I think he is.
(Labelling real humans with words they don’t use is bad and wrong; don’t do that.)
I concluded that essay earlier with Richard having sorted himself out and figured out who he was by the time he was leaving Sri Lanka, or at least by the time he landed in Japan, since there was a little layover in Hong Kong for a while. But what if…no? What if?
Wait, wait, hear me out! This essay isn’t going to totally contradict my last one (although if it did, I wouldn’t care, because Lit Interpretation means allowing for more than one interpretation to be correct, and there’s plenty I don’t know). I think this amendment is compatible in a lovely way.
Queer is an umbrella term. Remember that post I made saying Richard spent the first three books with a crush he did not ask for being very mad about it? You want to know what makes people really frustrated and angry? Thinking they’ve figured themselves out and then something comes along that confuses that. You know who that happens to a lot? Gray-ace and gray-aro people. Because when you realize you’ve never really felt romantic or sexual attraction to someone, you get used to that, you work on accepting a queer identity that society is hostile too, and then suddenly you feel attractions you’re not used to? What even is that, why is it happening, and what do you do with it? Can you make it stop? Do you want it to? This was not you assumed your life experience was going to be like. Why is it changing? Are you still ace? Are you still aro? What if those people who told you that you’d change if you me the right person were right all along (they weren’t, fuck those people)?
There are so many questions that pop up when things change in your life. Richard has a long lecture about “sexuality can be fluid, suckers,” in Paraiba Tourmaline, and while gray-aspec identities are not inherently fluid, they can seem that way a lot, and Richard could well feel he transitioned from aro to gray aro or even from aro to gay, or aro to bisexual, or anything else. He was talking to Tanimoto, but that doesn’t mean his words weren’t rooted in things he experienced himself.
I think Richard knew he was at least queer by the time he made it to Japan. But I don’t know how much he knew beyond that. He knew he was weird and different and couldn’t conform to society’s expectations of him gender and relationship-wise. That’s all “queer” really requires, which is why it’s a lovely umbrella term for people who can’t or don’t care to puzzle it out further than that, and for all the people who fall under that umbrella.
And if he didn’t have romantic attraction to Deborah, which is a solid possibility, that means Seigi may very well be the first time he did have a crush, and once he recognized what it was…what? Why now? Why couldn’t this happen sooner? He lost so much not feeling that way about people. He spent so much time coming to terms with not having a typical romantic relationship; why does he want one now? Is what he feels for Seigi romantic? It’s certainly not the same as what he feels for most people. How can he tell?
And thus: frustrated Richard being frustrated and annoyed for books, until he, like Seigi, made it to the end of White Sapphire and went “Whether I know what this is or not, whatever it is, it’s desperately important to me and I’m going to fight to keep it forever.”
We don’t know for sure when Richard’s realizations were, or what specific moments they were caused by. If Act Three gives us this, I will lose my entire mind with joy. But there are a lot of little places it can slot in, and much like with Seigi, it can be a work in progress.

Si habrá series con giros complejos esta es una de ellas.
Empezando como un anime con historia simple sobre un joyero y su asistente las realidades de ambos comienzan a complejizarse para mi sorpresa con el pasar de los capítulos.

La realidad de Richard si bien dramática, es algo esperable entre comillas ya visto en series románticas occidentales. Sin embargo, en este último capítulo dónde se muestra el trasfondo de Seigi las cosas comienzan a revolverse cada vez más con pequeños detalles. 
Este tipo de guión y desarrollo de la trama donde no nos revelan toda la historia con una introducción prefabricada, es el tipo de historias que más se quedan conmigo. Los diálogos extraños, las escenas cortadas, incluso las expresiones de los personajes están muy bien logradas.

Es una historia que dado los tintes de BL, no hubiese estado demás seguirla por ese lado, pero supongo que si quisieran haberlo hecho más explícito, habría sido así.

It seems…there was some kind of promotional showing which I missed the boat on? Well, that’s why Plunderer is on my winter visual, anyway. (refers to coverage on Animanga Spellbook)
My mother was watching Hatena Illusion earlier today – I didn’t go to watch much of it, since that would spoil the surprise for when I tackle it later – but the one thing that annoyed me was the high-pitched girl voice, as it does. I bring it up because it’s pissing me off here too.  
Okay, when you se CGI in the first few minutes of a show…that can’t be good. At all.
Hina’s Count is in her inner thigh, because she needs to flash everyone while she advances the plot. Thanks a lot, ecchi show. (words dripping with sarcasm)
Um, call me “feminist”, but why was the assumption she was looking for a boyfriend first up??? Can’t girls survive on their lonesome???
*facepalms* Why is the focus on Hina’s thighs when she’s being asked for money?!
Gah…faced with boobs, nosebleeds and thighs…this is ecchi paradise. Not a place I’d like to be, really.

I was put off by the title and the style of the characters, but the reviews were good, so I’m here.
The shadow aesthetic reminds me of the one episode of Utena I watched.
The Hozuki aesthetic is very striking! It reminds me of Ranpo Kitan.
What’s up with the perverts today? *points upwards at Plunderer’s Licht* Also, those magatama hair decs Nene has are pretty interesting. (Note if I randomly bring up someone’s name without having to have learnt it, I probably read the promo stuff and/or reviews.)
Well, in the context, it is “high hopes”, but the characters just mean “expectations”, so they’re not that high, so to speak…
LOL, this (Nene) is basically me and my seasonal husbandos.
Oh, I just saw Minamoto passing by and Nene didn’t even notice it! LOL! Update: Turns out it’s just a guy who has red glasses but otherwise looks like him.
Lemme guess…she’ll bump into him from around the corner. It’s a shoujo cliché - c’mon, you can do better than this, show!
Did Nene turn into a fi-wait, that would mean this is the second time in anime that’s happened since Classicaloid! *eyes sparkle* Amazing!

That action scene relied on shaky camera a bit, but it was better than I was expecting for a show like this (a Hozuki-style supernatural romance).
I thought this was gonna pull a Noragami and Hanako wanted Nene’s soul, but nope. Just her labour. Guess this is another In/Spectre, huh?
The preview blended so seamlessly into the episode I couldn’t tell which was which and I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing…

Lerche, huh? Makes sense. They did do Ranpo Kitan, which has much the same aesthetic.
The actual preview was…more interesting (i.e. more like a comedy TV short), which is a lot less impressive than the thing I thought was a preview.

This is the 3rd entry on my hype list. ID: Invaded made 2nd by debuting beforehand and 1st was a spinoff to an established premise (Magia Record), so I hope I was putting my support in the right place.
The scenery is nice in this show.
The pun is that Seigi = justice, so the ep title could be “justice of the pink sapphire”.
I was using the spelling of Richard’s name from ANN when I put this series on AniList, so I didn’t expect it to be “de Vulpian”.
The joke (Hero of Justice) is that Seigi Nakata is kinda like seigi (no) mikata (ally of justice).
Wait, why, whatttttttttttt?! Who keeps jewels in their fridge?!
It turns out Takadanobaba Station actually exists.
Education major? No wonder she’s so trusting…likewise, economics is probably why Seigi is so black and white on his morals (although Richard did just throw that back into his face earlier). Update: I say that because in order to succeed in education, you need to be sociable and trusting of parents, colleagues etc., while economics is very numbers-based (even if the people behind it may be money-grubbers).
LOL, that “Tfantasy and Co.” was so clearly a parody on Tiffany and Co.
This thing about records reminds me of how hackers (or crackers) can resurrect most things if they have enough to work with. It makes me feel nostalgic, to think about IT like that again.
Is it just me, or is there CGI in this show…?
Padparadscha…the only thing I remember about that stone is that it’s got lotsa holes in it (from Houseki no Kuni). Hmm, I can see why Richard thought it was a pink sapphire, though. Update: Then again, the link says padparadscha can be a sapphire too and the bit just after this says padparadscha is a sapphire of a certain colour. (Richard was only saying it was pink – and thus less valuable than the padparadscha - to ascertain Seigi’s motive, as he says.)
The quality of animation that occurred when Seigi was crying…it’s a bit worrying in comparison to some other shows (*thinks about Eizouken*).
I completely was able to predict Richard had the buns for Seigi to share with Hiromi.
Y’see? Words don’t lie, but they have a lot of nuance to ‘em. I say that because when I was researching Richard to submit his info to AniList, I discovered his foreign looks are because at least one of his ancestors was British with Sri Lankan heritage.
LOL, I like how Richard dismisses all the other royal milk teas. He’s just a little bit snarky, but not too much.
Update: Oh yeah, Shouko’s name has the character for “crystal” in it and it can alternately be read “Akiko”.

I’m watching episode 3 of Seigi no Se / Ms. Justice [For the curious check this post : here] and I begin to have an idea of AU!Prosecutor for Hakuouki. 
Ririko makes me think a lot of Chizuru with her behaviour : spontaneous, trying her best to make justice, a little bit naive, sweety and so precious for this world, really funny and stuborn... Well cutie. Now I imagine an AU where Chizuru is a young prosecutor. 
My big issue now is to find who is Aihara the assistant-prosecutor of Chizuru ? 
I hesitate with Hijikata (because I looove the idea of Hijikata being assistant of Chizuru, being Hijimama with her and dreaming of a Hijizu in the future hihihi) buuut Hijikata could also be Otsuka. The prosecutor who works with Ririko and who always make her reflexions concerning her attitude or naivety...but he is curious about her and sometimes my gosh...that look...I hope Ririko and Otsuka would be together at the end of the show x)
Well so maybe Hijikata for the assistant prosecutor...or maybe he is a prosecutor of the same District of Chizuru (and Heisuke is his assistant-prosecutor/slam)(or Souma/slam)...and I need to find a character in Hakuouki who is a little bit grumpy but not bad, acting like a sister-in-law with all his advices...I hesitate between Serizawa and Amagiri for the moment. Lolz.
