I finally did my great big bjd lineup for 2022 back in September. This year there are 56 dolls in the lineup, though I didn't include 3 dolls as they are identical duplicates (same head and body sculpt combos). Most are mine, though a small portion belong to my wife.

I realize now that I should have shoved the Soom boys in the 70cm+ section into the 1/3+ section instead, as they wouldn't be this tall without their fantasy parts.

Taking the pictures was a half day ordeal as I would only setup at most 6 dolls in one go, always making the last of one image the first of the next. Then it took me another couple of hours to select the best images and manually edit and merge them into one long lineup since I unfortunately do not own anything long enough to setup all the dolls into one giant line.

I hope this is hopeful to at least some people, to help them visualize just how big the differences are between the size ranges, and even within!

SD13 Isao Nanjo 1st box opening

I ordered him from Dolly Teria with my MSD girl, making him my 3rd doll overall. Their boxes came taped together as one mega box with the actual doll boxes wrapped up like this inside.

His box is a bit dented, but considering he’s 19 years old at this point, a bit of wear and tear is to be expected! There’s no tearing or severe damage to the box.

One mummified doll plus wig. If you look carefully at the bottom of the box, you can see where his original fullset shoes disintegrated while still on his feet in storage.

Partially unmummified, but lots of extra protection on his fet, hands, head and torso.

One hand free! Hard to see with the winter overcast light, but his resin has definitely yellowed (not that I mind - it was disclosed in his item description) and he has a faint yellowish scrape on this hand.

Black marks on the feet and legs, most likely from being stored in his pleather boots, which then disintegrated over time. The boots were the only part of his fullset outfit not included, but most of the black pleather belts have also significantly flaked. Curiously, his black pleather jacket and pants are still in excellent condition. I was able to put them both on (but did have to remove his feet and hands to do so) with no damage to the outfit.

There’s an odd texture on his lower torso, particularly near the navel, that I can’t entirely identify. Perhaps sun exposure or old sealant?

One protected head!

Here he is, fully unwrapped. Judging by the database photos I’ve seen, his faceup has blurred a bit around the eyes, but he’s overall in good condition. His eye glue has also been replaced with putty so his eyes can be changed.

Last week arrived a dress (someone's handmade) that I bought for Nono (she doesn't have a name yet).

Ok, so I'm fine with Unoss wearing that Volks outfit for now even though parts are missing and Mika is wearing the exact same outfit, so I'm going to stop looking specifically for an outfit for her to wear. If I see something that gets my attention, then I'll consider getting it assuming I've been paid for more ponies by then.

She needs shoes, though, and she has SD13 boy sized feet, so finding shoes long enough that suit the outfit will be a bit of a pain. Maybe some loafers?

I'm fine with the eyes I made, though I need to replace the eraser with poster tac or something else because I do think the eraser is what discolored that one set of resin eyes. I had bought a huge pack of poster tac at one point and can't find it. Because I'm chronically disorganized.

I make no joke when I say I need help with that.

She needs a different wig because that one's polypropylene and it's already getting gross. There are some teeswater locks on eBay that would make a nice wig for her, but I don't like making wigs so I'm waffling. I'd rather buy her a wig similar to the one she has, just not garbage fiber.

I've been in the hobby for a while on-and-off, so majority of my collection are old. I really love all my bjds regardless of age, some of the older ones that have yellowed I tried to personally "de-yellow"/whiten as well, and I take good care of them all. Most have fresh new faceups as well. I'm here not for the popularity but for the creative expression and collection aspect. I have never subscribed to the idea that a bjd can be "outdated" or "too old so needs to be replaced" - styles can change I know, but the beauty about bjds is you can always change their look to suit your taste or what's "in".

So I find it kinda rude when in a recent local meetup, someone commented on how "awful those dolls are" (mine) since they're yellowed (not very awful, not even close to a banana yellow), untrendy and "not aesthetically pleasing" (very subjective tbh). Sure, maybe the boyish, 8-pack-abs-less V0lks SD10 and SD13 aren't "trendy" right now, but I'm still baffled how mine are ugly when they're styled quite nicely/cute, with signature artist face-ups (1 cost me $300+ total in intl shipping + face up artist fee, and I had to wait for a while since the artist is quite popular). The member couldn't say it to my face though (I was sitting behind her, talking with one of the mods of the community), especially after knowing I also owned the 75cm So0m doll they were fawning over at the meet. 🤷‍♀️
