one of the dolls I saved after the fire was my resin Enchanted Doll, Maryse. before everything, she looked like this:

when I took her out of my destroyed bedroom, she looked like this:

A very, very kind stranger from the BJD forums reached out to me- having restored her own dolls after a fire, she offered to do the same for mine, free of charge. She put weeks of painstaking work into my doll, asking nothing in return, and I am eternally grateful

and today, my phoenix girl came home from the faceup artist.

to say that I'm blown away would be an understatement. she looks so gorgeous that I can hardly believe it. you'd never know she had been in a fire, which makes me tear up a little (pardon the not-quite-finished outfit; I just didn't want her to be nude). yes, she's just a doll, but when you lose so much, having something come back to you can mean the world

it's been a long road, Maryse. here's to happier adventures together

Now that I've semi-retired from CC making (at least on an Early Access basis), I think I'm going to put more effort into my doll restorations/makeovers. It's relaxing once I get into the painting zone and really satisfying to see the results. I need to find some more vintage girlies to make over though.

I would love to get my hands on a vintage Christie (60s or 70s) and restyle her to look like one of the earlier 60s dolls.

Before and after a couple days in 40vol in the sun (and some initial mild sanding too, but that was a waste of time, should have gone straight to 40vol).

It even got the yellowing on the rubbery parts. I'm shook.

(Ignore the hands, those are Resinsoul white)

A tip for anyone new to doll restoration (or getting rid of glue seepage in general) PLEASE use gloves when handling Goo Gone if you didn't know already, it can cause irritation if exposed directly to skin. Learned my lesson using Goo Gone on my Ghouls Rule Draculaura without gloves because my palm was irritated for at least an hour. It should probably also say this on the bottle but I'm a little dumb and didn't read that part, which I should've.

This month I decided to try out a new type of art - doll repainting. This is my first time doing this so any tips, tricks and observations are appreciated 😅

I chose to start with Monster High dolls because of their larger heads which make it easier to paint on them (theoretically). My first victim is Draculaura g1 (Sweet 1600)

And I decided to revamp her into no one else than Kim'dael from TDP ❤

So far this is how she looks after the initial painting with watercolor pencils and some blush. I decided to make her markings more scar-like, that's how I always interpreted them.

The horns were made from paper-mache stabilised with wire, then painted with acrylic paints.

Next, I'm going to give her new hair (I'm really anxious about that part already) and sew her outfit from S5 along with the jewellery.

finally got both sweet 1600 and monster ball drac to a displayable state - I did a partial reroot on monster ball to give her wider bangs/face framing pieces like her stock photo and redid sweet 1600’s wonky eye/3D printed new accessories. happy with her new eye considering that I haven’t had much success with painted faceups in the past

now all that’s left is to print sweet 1600’s earrings (which keep falling off the build plate…)

I am so glad I didn't just toss her in the trash.

She cleaned up really well.

She's got one of my favorite Barbie face sculpts, made up in a different way than usual.

I think her name will be Sydney. I have to check and make sure I don't already have a Sydney 😄

spent most of today cleaning up and dressing this victoria antique bratzillaz doll!! i am Not good at doll hair and hers was pretty bad when i got her so im super proud of the style even if it’s messy at the back, and i used jewel richie’s second outfit and another bratzillaz’ trousers to redress her 🥰 im SO happy with how she looks, she’s so gorgeous!! i’ll see if i can find the eBay listing i got her from for comparison and reblog with photos!

Back on my doll rescue bs.

I bought a cursed Snow White doll for £2.99 on Ebay. I think she lived in a hedge because she had outside in her hair and was generally very heinous. 

I'll probably reroot her.

one more semi sunny day in the 40vol and her hand looks great. I am shocked

it can almost pass for matching the Xinyi body, even

her arms and other parts with yellow patches are gonna stay out another day since I didn't start them at the same time.

Edit: I should clarify!!! These parts are NOT a resin BJD! This is Hujoo ABS plastic.
