I finally did my great big bjd lineup for 2022 back in September. This year there are 56 dolls in the lineup, though I didn't include 3 dolls as they are identical duplicates (same head and body sculpt combos). Most are mine, though a small portion belong to my wife.

I realize now that I should have shoved the Soom boys in the 70cm+ section into the 1/3+ section instead, as they wouldn't be this tall without their fantasy parts.

Taking the pictures was a half day ordeal as I would only setup at most 6 dolls in one go, always making the last of one image the first of the next. Then it took me another couple of hours to select the best images and manually edit and merge them into one long lineup since I unfortunately do not own anything long enough to setup all the dolls into one giant line.

I hope this is hopeful to at least some people, to help them visualize just how big the differences are between the size ranges, and even within!

SD16 - Swift Dragocycle

Smaugust Day 16: Swift [ 2023 ] This is Dragocycle, a Steel/Dragon Fakemon. Just something I doodled up quickly - as a sort of "what if there was a more straight-forward motorcycle dragon Pokemon." I feel Koraidon and Cyclizar really suffer from not having actual wheels, and both look goofy when you ride them. So I wanted something that was more straight-forwardly cool. And also a common Pokemon with a simpler design - this is not a Legendary. It's also partially inspired by Grani, Gallantmon's mount from the Digimon series. [Smaugust is an art challenge in August where one must draw one dragon a day.]

Something is Rotten in the V0lks Community. Well, the English speaking v0lks community... in all my years in the hobby I would have thought a fellow non-JP hobbyist having the honour to have a doll made of their sketch would be something to be proud of. Instead, there's been so much nastiness. People congratulating her or cautioning people not to be rude are called 'ass kissing'. People are stalking her social media to make sure she never says a single negative thing about any other sculpt because she's no longer allowed to if she 'gets upset' when people don't like hers. (never mind what she is upset about is not people disliking her head but the relentless hatred thrown at it from all sides, and people taking 'hey don't be rude' as a personal challenge, because they actually WANT her to know they hate this head.) They are pouncing on anything they can to make her look like a 'hypocrite', obsessed with 'knocking her down a peg', all because of some strange anger about her standing out.

What went wrong? I'm disappointed in so many of you. One of my favourite things about V0lks is the variety of heads there are, something for so many tastes. This means that it's a company that has both heads I adore and heads I genuinely dislike and find unappealing, and I imagine it's the same for many of us fans. It's natural then that there would be people who wouldn't like Diamond, just as there are people who don't like Michelle or Amethyst (as we as people who adore them) but I never see the level of hatred Diamond gets directed at any other sculpt, and never with the same sneering scorn where it's clear the author wants Arid3de to see their opinion and know. I am not just talking about this blog. On the V0lksUSA Facebook, several people were leaving cruel comments after Diamond's reveal, begging Volks to cancel her release

Asking V0lks WHY they'd make something 'horrifying' like that, imploring they not make another head like that again. I ask you, how do you think this feels? It's just not something you are proud of being trashed, it's being trashed by people you thought were your comrades, your fellow v0lks fans. Arid3de is a human, and a v0lks fan. Isn't she a comrade? What caused this gulf? I don't think Diamond looks out of place - she fits right in with the Jewel series of SD16 who all have very dramatic, mature lady shapes. Therefore it can't be because she looks 'too different'. Then is it jealousy, maybe from someone who also entered the contest and didn't become a finalist? Is it people who became angry at being 'told what to do' (ie be polite and stop going out of your way to insult something instead of a simple 'not for me'?)I really don't know. I just know I'm extremely disappointed in my fellow V0lks fans. I always thought we had more grace than this, but maybe that was just my fantasy.

Susi finally got a wig I’ve been meaning to order since 2020, and she looks perfect in it, just like I imagined!

I’ve tried to order this wig twice, but due to covid shipping restrictions I kept being refunded and told to order later. But now I got it and I am so thrilled with how she looks!

More things I bought:

So I wanted Doll Leaves Hedy. Bobblehead. Jumpscare teeth. 1/4 scale. Basically, everything I say I don't collect. But I just love her.

Well, DDE had her in stock, so I ordered one. And they sent me Hily (right, wearing Glitter Girls by Battat outfit) instead.

Oops.

I decided to keep Hily and get Hedy. So now I have both.

Doll Peddlar has some Domuya dolls in stock and on clearance.

This is ... Dirge Queen Mauve? She came with a full set outfit I haven't bothered to put on anybody. She is 64 cm. And she came with fancy feet.

I feel pretty confident in saying she's about the same size as a Volks SD16. Here she is with Iplehouse nSID Isabel:

She wears a size 9-10 wig, and her face sculpt gives me strong enough Volks vibes that I don't really want a new Volks doll anymore.

Doll Peddlar has 2 more Domuya Flexi2 62 cm BJDs still in stock. Last I checked, they were $175 each (full set with company face-up).

I found a video of the 62cm Evantasy body and yeah, I think I did good to order one. 🤤 I must confess to finding it pretty amusing that in a discussion thread on DoA where people are discussing theirs biggest turnoffs when it comes to BJDs, most of the physical characteristics of this body are high up on the list. 🤭 I hope she fits the outfits I’ve bought (some of them do specify SD16 and DDdy, so 🤞)

In other news, my blank AS Cynthia head and the optional Evantasy hands are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday! That’s exciting as it means I get to send the head off for a face-up and I get to see the resin match in person. Fun stuff.
