MAG 6 - 'Squirm' - Speculations on parasitic infection.
This statement has many interesting aspects, but one that catches my attention is the subtle details of just how Prentiss's parasites seem to infect.
Harriet says she felt like she was stabbed, but doesn't mention worms or obvious rot on Prentiss, which would have been noticeable even in a moment of shock. This, and the fact that she wasn't wounded implies that the spreading of the sickness is not only caused by the worms.
From their description, Prentiss's worms are more like larvae than your standard worm, and the thing about larvae is that the eggs they emerge from are small, delicate. Anyone that's dealt with maggots knows that you can't just get rid of the maggots, you need to destroy the eggs too, but this brings me to another point.
Because of how delicate the eggs of a fly are, its common for them to lay them on things, and even in things; this is sometimes called flystrike. When I was a child I had a bright green pet caterpillar, I kept him in a jar and fed him leaves, and was so excited for him to turn into a butterfly! He never did though, instead I watched him torn in half from the inside out as fly larvae crawled from his corpse. If a fly laying its eggs under the skin of a caterpillar could do that, imagine what a human could do to another with this mutated, powerful, fear-driven parasite.
Harriet's eventual demise wasn't all that different from that of my pet, but as all things are with humans, it was undeniably messier. This dramatic end also puts me in mind of Ohiocordyceps unilateralis, more commonly known as the zombie ant fungus. After its host has served its purpose it very dramatically blooms, spreading the infection further to keep its species alive.
The parasite being spread by intercourse implies that either extended physical contact or transfer of bodily fluid can also cause infection. To me it makes more sense that it's fluids, as I think Timothy Hodge would have noticed anything physical, he seemed to be quite perceptive. The parasite being spread by fluids is interesting, as that could mean it has more fungus-like properties and spreads it's spores through the bloodstream, thereby affecting everything else.
This would mean that the methods of infection are: transfer of bodily fluid, flystrike, and the traditional worm burrowing. Correlating it as best I can, it seems to me that the worms exist as both parasite and fungus- something obviously not possible in reality, but definitely pleasing to the otherworldly fear entity of rot and filth!
Prentiss, as the source of it all, seems to have the ability to plant the eggs, which in turn can grow the worms. Whilst a host grows these perhaps the spores inside of them can spread others that they become physical with. I like to think that then the spores could grow and change into the worms, which in turn can infest others, leaving spores to create even more, creating the perfect flesh hive.

The phenomenon of ‘detransitioning’ is becoming harder to ignore. Take a look online and you’ll quickly find large and growing communities of detransitioners – people who have undergone hormone therapy and / or surgeries in order to make their bodies conform to that of the opposite sex, and who now want to go back to normal.
Tragically, many people have discovered, at huge personal cost, that the puberty-blocking drugs that were sold to them as ‘completely reversible’ have long-lasting effects. Those who have undergone surgery are even more badly damaged and scarred. Almost all detransitioners report that once the process of transitioning begins – when your gender identity is being ‘affirmed’ – the possibility of changing your mind is closed off, until it is too late.
Many prominent detransitioners have come to the fore in recent years. Perhaps the best known is Keira Bell. In 2020, she took legal action against the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the soon-to-be-closed Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), the UK’s only specialist gender clinic for young people. Bell argues that staff at GIDS should have challenged her desire to become a boy, rather than affirm it. She was prescribed puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and even underwent a double mastectomy. She regretted this just a year later.
Bell’s case is not isolated. More and more people who regret their transition are coming forward. But they are being told, in no uncertain terms, to keep quiet. ‘Detransition’, one article declares, ‘is inextricable from transphobia’.
One of the most active online communities for detransitioners is the ‘r/detrans’ board on Reddit, which now has almost 40,000 members. It has become a hub for people to share their experiences with others who have been through something similar, many of them as children or adolescents.
A brief scroll through the board is enough to find countless tragic stories. One woman writes about the trauma she now feels after having her breasts removed. A girl, only 17, says she struggles to deal with the lasting impact of medical transition. Another young woman, who wants to stop taking testosterone, says she can no longer recall why she wanted to transition in the first place.
Reading even just a handful of these posts makes it difficult to believe the claims of trans activists that ‘gender affirmation’ is strictly necessary to alleviate young people’s distress. Or that the double mastectomies prescribed to girls can ‘drastically improve quality of life for young transgender people’. The potential harms of these interventions should be obvious to anyone.
Even harder to swallow are the ‘studies’, often repeated in the trans-friendly media, that tell us that less than one per cent of people who transition will come to regret their decision. As many have pointed out, the sheer volume of testimonies from detransitioners make these numbers seem a little off.
It is easy to understand why trans-activists groups downplay the extent of detransitioning. Its very existence poses a direct threat to the ideology of the transgender movement. It calls into question its core idea that we all have an inner gender identity, which needs to be unquestioningly affirmed. And as a result, many trans activists are doing everything in their power to sweep detransitioners under the rug.
The first detransition community on Reddit, ‘r/detransition’, was set upon by trans activists almost immediately after it emerged. They claimed that it was transphobic for people to gather and discuss experiences that might paint medical transition in a less-than-positive light. When the founder and moderator of the ‘r/detransition’ board committed suicide, within hours a set of trans activists took over as moderators and started deleting posts that talked about transition-related regret.
Attempts to bring the trans takeover of the ‘r/detransition’ board to the attention of Reddit proved fruitless. And so a new board, ‘r/detrans’, was set up to replace it. In July 2020, ‘r/detrans’ was banned for violating Reddit’s policy on promoting ‘hate’. This was later overturned, after prominent members and supporters of the community put pressure on Reddit to restore it. Nonetheless, it left many members feeling as though the community they had built was under siege.
And no wonder. Reddit has a history of silencing those who speak out against gender-identity ideology. In the past, it has banned feminist, gender-critical and even women’s health support groups, based on spurious accusations of transphobia. Worse still, in the case of ‘r/Pregnancy’, Reddit replaced the existing community moderators with trans activists, who would then demand that female users refer to themselves as ‘cis women’, ‘womb-havers’ and ‘menstruators’. The censorship of detransitioners is a logical extension of this attempt to protect trans ideology at all costs.
As well as facing outright censorship, the stories of detransitioners have been routinely dismissed. Trans pressure groups have taken to the media to counter the ‘misconceptions’ created by the ‘detransition narrative’. According to one writer, the testimony of detransitioners is ‘designed to spread anxiety around the concept of trans people’.
Trans-lobby group Stonewall has a page on its website called ‘Dispelling myths around detransition’. According to Stonewall, just because someone chooses to detransition, that ‘does not in and of itself mean regret’. In fact, Stonewall blames the desire of some to detransition on ‘transphobia’ and society’s alleged unwillingness to affirm people in their chosen gender. Stonewall insists that many people who detransition ‘will choose to retransition at a later point when they are safe and supported’. It also claims that the underfunding of gender-identity services plays a role.
Stonewall’s ‘mythbuster’ is at odds with reality. A common feature in so many of the posts on ‘r/detrans’ is a frustration that everyone in the detransitioner’s life continued to affirm their newfound gender identity and pushed them through the medical transition process, without giving them pause for reflection.
Detransitioners may well be a vocal minority. The lack of studies or data on detransitioners is cited by the trans lobby as a reason to be sceptical of their testimony. But one reason there is so little information is, yet again, because of the censoriousness of trans-rights activists. When academics have attempted to do research into detransitioning, their studies have been shut down, due to fear that the findings might cause offence.
The testimonies of detransitioners are tragic for those concerned. But they do bring some cause for optimism. The growing willingness of detransitioners to speak out, and their growing visibility in the debate, could be a sign that the tide is turning. Perhaps society is starting to wake up to the dangers of unquestioningly affirming children’s chosen gender. Perhaps children confused about their gender will one day get the help and advice they need – untainted by the demands of trans ideologues. And the fact that trans activists are so determined to silence this growing movement of detransitioners shows how flimsy the trans ideology can be.

I say all the time that science must account for all the data, it cannot put its fingers in its ears and ‘la-la-la-la-la’ away what contradicts its claims. Any medicine that doesn’t just ignore contradictory data, but denies or even vilifies that data is, by definition, unscientific and therefore not medicine.
Unlike calculating terminal velocity on Earth, which always nets the same results no matter who does it, the human body is variable. So medicine is always a case of the best of the available options, and is best achieved by adhering to the adage primum non nocere - “first, do no harm” - the sentiment, if not the actual wording, is embodied in the Hippocratic Oath.
Ignoring all the mounting evidence isn’t just unscientific, it’s completely unethical.

How does Bill feel about Lyra?
Hi!! thank you for the ask!!
Bill has extremely. Complicated feelings about Lyra. Especially as the one person (he knows) that remembers the RGB-GSC timeline, and as the person that could be blamed for the situation behind the Kawamoto girls.
The best way I can describe his relationship with Lyra is, no matter what effort he makes to treat her just like he did with Kris, he remains very distant from his niece. Kris was like a daughter to him, he helped teach her how to dye her hair, gave her her first pokemon, had her constantly hanging over his shoulder while he created the box system, and was a sort of driving force in his life. So to see her gone from existence, in the place of a girl that looks nothing like her, Bill can’t help feeling. Almost pity for Lyra. Like a vessel/living representation of his grief over losing his first niece.
Sometimes he’ll look at Lyra and see Kris for a split second in her place. Kris’s name will almost escape his mouth when he actually means to call for her.
Bill doesn’t resent her. But he can’t really see Lyra as her own person.
Just a shell of what was taken from him. And what he corrupted. A time long gone and ruin.
And he tries. TRIES his hardest to view lyra as her own person. Making an effort to do everything he can to be just as good an uncle to Lyra as he was to Kris. It’s not her fault he fucked up. She’s genuinely clueless about being Kris’s replacement. She’s not a form of punishment inflicted on him specifically.
But when he sees her undyed brown hair in those pigtails, he can’t help remembering the messy, undyed roots he would spend nights helping another cover up. And she becomes a living ghost of someone he can never have back.

I have listened to 74 and Skies Forever Blue.
Personally I... don't think either really has much of a connection to Deltarune? I just think sometimes, authors really like exploring certain themes over and over again. Toby seems to enjoy exploring metafiction in video games, and subversions about 'what the people who fill certain 'classic archetypes' 'classic archetypes' in stories. (And I can't blame him, personally. I keep thinking up and writing stories where the 'chosen one' is subverted somehow.)
Could Dess and Kris end up mirroring the Princess and Knight in 74? It's not impossible. I've actually heard the theory that Kris is opening Dark Worlds to search for Dess in isolation from the song 74 before now. I've also always wondered why the creator of the Dark Worlds is called the Knight, and not the Maker or Author or Dreamer or Dragon or something like that. If the person who happened to be creating Dark Worlds was introducing themself as 'the Knight,' that'd be one thing, but it strikes me as kinda strange that the role itself is called the Knight. Furthermore, as I've also theorized in isolation, if Dess is meant to be an Asriel/Flowey parallel, it's possible that she does want to be rescued deep down, but feels she doesn't deserve it and thus lashes out and shoves people away.
So, analyzing themes Toby has done before and a few things about Deltarune. It's not impossible. But we know so incredibly little about Dess that some of us can't even agree on her species, so this seems to be another thing that seems like a big stretch to theorize about. Even if I, personally, like this kind of character and subversion of a lot more than 'what if Dess was a HOOMAN'
...That sad. I'd actually say that Deltarune already seems to have two characters that fit this particular parallel and subverson. Berdly and Noelle on a Snowgrave work as slightly less of a stretch. But really not much of a 1-1 parallel. XD
Mmhmm!
My first thoughts after listening to 74 and Skies Forever Blue was that both of these protagonists have 'Asriel' Vibes - 74 & Asriel are twists on 'Fairytales' - 74 has a perverted Princess & Asriel is secret 'Frog Prince' - while Skies Forever Blue's Girl has a similar tragedy to Asriel - a videogame NPC who has fallen in love with a careless HeroTM - and turns self-destructive because of said love.
(Both Asriel & the Girl also have a moment where in lue of a missing protagonist, they take control of the videogame world around them, making themselves the Protagonist, if only for a moment.)
...Leads one to think that Toby Fox loves deconstructing childhood fairytales. Applies similarly to Toriel, Undyne, Asgore, and Chara - twists on the Witchy Stepmom, the Hero, the Evil Demon King, and the Player Character.
Kris is a 'Hero' - a Knight in Shining Armor - and the twist is in plain sight - they are a Villain too - the fountain creator - and capable of being pushed to hurt Noelle.
(Not a statement on whether Kris WANTS to be the Villain - I don't think they do - which is probably why they let themselves be possessed)
The Most Obvious 'Princess' is Noelle - she's fits the bill for nice, well-born, and extremely passive - and she reminds me a lot of the Princess from 74 - because underneath the role of Princess she hides a decently complex and powerful person - and her own ability to hurt people.
(Susie rounds out the triad by being a Dragon/Villain with the ability to be a Hero - though I think we're missing a good chunk of her story still for me to comment on this - right now I view her as a Shonen Hero (like Naruto) in denial of her role, who would rather give it up to Kris and Ralsei.)
(Ralsei is purposely making himself a Tutorial Tip Fairy - so there's not much going on there until he breaks and grabs protagonistdom by the reins.)
Pretty much on the nose that Berdly is a corrupted Knight with Noelle as his Princess - though I don't think he'll have a similar 'Role' in the future - I think he'll relax in future chapters - and his relationships with the class / his family explored more.
I like to think he has younger/older siblings, and that's why he's so pressured to stand out.

i was abt to come up with an interesting au where laura ends up coming across ecclesia rather than wygol but since theyre in the same general area and they have their whole "noble purpose" thing, she would have assumed this was where she was destined to "do great things" and joined, but then i realized. laura literally just got out of a remarkably similar shitty situation (not a cult, but i dont think she would really be jumping to study under another strict mentor) at this point in her life so i think she would see the red flags. its just not very plausible

honestly i think a HUGE part of the issue is that most of the left doesn't really understand antisemitism
after wwii it became wildly Unpopular to be blatantly antisemitic. obviously, it still happened. but the result of this is that instead of antisemitism being studied as a historical and pervasive form of oppression that has been around for thousands of years & has many many precedents BEFORE the holocaust.... it became:
something just simply Rude to say or do. if you're a polite liberal/conservative or a leftist, it's just something that is socially unacceptable. there is no real weight to this.
something when FIRMLY believed is ONLY held by people like nazis and white supremacists. who, as we know, are The Enemy and none of us can ever be like them at all ever by the virtue of... not being them. no need to watch your own behaviors, bc you are not a nazi! only nazis could ever be Actually antisemitic
something that erupted out of the ground in germany in the early 20th century, culminated with the holocaust, and ended after. antisemitism did not exist before that and it was solved after when the saving grace of the united states and england liberated the jews from the nazis out of the goodness of their hearts
however absolutely none of this is true. antisemitism stretches back thousands of years and it has not, for the most part, been only "fringe" conspiracy theorists and white supremacists who perpetuate it
antisemitism has been, by and large, presented as very logical. throughout, again, the thousands of years of history of antisemitism, very regular people have been antisemites. and most of them had reasons they felt were perfectly logical and understandable and most of all just. jews were trying to kill their children, of course they hated them! jews were purposefully trying to keep them poor, of course they hated them! jews believed Wrong Things and were morally and spiritually corrupt, of course there was something wrong with them. jews betrayed their country, lost them a war that ended with their husbands and brothers and sons dead, and now were living among them and taking advantage of social benefits out of the goodness of the hearts of the german people, of COURSE they hated them! and the nazis themselves were backed up by science at the time. scientific racism was THE science at the time. charles darwin was a scientific racist. it was all very logical.
and did jews actually do these things? no. but these people saw enough proof that aligned well enough with their morals and their beliefs and their fears & so to them it was completely logical and justified. it wasn't a fringe theory that only an insane person would believe in, or something impolite. it was true to them. to their morals, to their fears, to their core beliefs. it was true.
and so now we see a LOT. a lot of leftists being dragged ass first into antisemitism. because they don't even think they CAN be antisemitic. THEY aren't nazis and THEY aren't white supremacists, of COURSE they aren't antisemitic. but... well. the jews are doing things that go against their morals. they're doing things that validate their fears. the jews are violating things that go against their core beliefs! so of COURSE it is LOGICAL that they should hate them. of course, it is still rude to say "the jews are evil" so it gets replaced with "zionist". (and before you ask yes i am anti-zionism and do deeply believe what israel is doing is unjust and cruel) but even that is slipping.
it is getting all the more popular to go that one step further and instead of just making posts like "spam the hanukkah tag because the Zionists need to learn what their religion stands for" that are blatantly just replacing "jews" with "zionists", they are logically moving to being mask off. if zionism is wrong and half the world's remaining jewish population lives in israel, what about the rest? aren't they suspect? would they not ALL commit atrocities if given the chance? aren't they all racist for believing they're an ethnicity? aren't they all complicit? aren't they all threatening our deeply held leftist beliefs? it's a little weird and everyone has been too quiet for too long bc it's been rude to say but now you can get 300k notes for posting blood libel so why would you keep quiet anymore?
why WOULDN'T you just say "thank god someone finally said it i was worried about stepping on toes" when someone makes a post full of antisemitic conspiracy theory. why WOULDN'T you say "i don't care if all of israel gets bombed and every single person dies after this lmfao they deserve it"? (which would wipe out, again, half the world's population of jews- many of whom living there are anti-zionist and actively protesting their government. or. you know. children.) why WOULDN'T you make posts about how jewish identity is just nazi aryanism? why wouldn't you make posts about how the jews are privileged in america bc they run hollywood and the economy? why WOULDN'T you say the star of david is a hate symbol to you now and that you mistrust anyone using it? or that you find anyone speaking hebrew suspect?
these are all perfectly logical. to you. and YOU are not a nazi or a white supremacist. so it can't be antisemitic.

The popular magazine Scientific American, which used to be a wonderful, apolitical, and fact-based publication for science nerds, has in the last decade become an outlet of Left-wing political propaganda. On the topic of biological sex specifically, Scientific American has played a large role in normalizing pseudoscientific concepts like the sex spectrum, the penis as a social construct, and they have even taken aim directly at my work by calling it “anti-trans” and “junk science” despite never engaging with any of my arguments.
Tumblr media
In a continuation of their efforts to destroy their credibility as a purveyor of scientific truth, they have recently released a multi-part documentary called “A Question of Sex,” that “look[s] at how people with sex variations are challenging longstanding notions of the sex binary in medicine.” But in the few short clips they presented in a Twitter thread, the number of falsehoods and misrepresentations is astonishing.
For instance, they incorrectly define “intersex” as “an umbrella term for variations that may appear in a person's chromosomes, genitals or internal organs.” But intersex is not the same as having a difference of sex development, or DSD. Rather, “intersex” refers to people who visibly appear sexually ambiguous at birth. Then they attempt to plot various “intersex” conditions along a sex spectrum from “typical female individual” to “typical male individual.” But this misrepresents the fact that even “atypical” males and females are still 100% male or female, not something in-between. Males with Klinefelter syndrome, for instance, are unambiguously male and many with the condition are not even aware of it.
A male who is 5-feet tall can also be considered “atypical,” but this doesn’t mean they’re less male. A short male is simply a short male. A male with an intersex condition is a male with an intersex condition. Being “atypical” for a sex doesn’t make someone less of that sex.
Tumblr media
The thread goes on to say that the complexity of biological sex is not simply relegated to intersex conditions, but that “Our bodies are far more variable than our categories,” and that “Part of what's happened is people become slotted into this binary framework.” A generous reading of the first claim is that they’re acknowledging variation in body shapes within the the two categories of sex—male and female. However, we are quickly disabused of that charitable reading by their second claim that these binary categories, or “binary framework,” are viewed as somehow incorrect.
They then make the wild and self-contradictory claim that “Before the late 18th century, Western science recognized only one sex—the male—and considered the female body an inferior version of it.” But wait, are they claiming that “Western science” didn’t recognize females as a separate sex from males, or that females were simply considered an “inferior” sex compared to males? It can’t be both. They then claim that the later-adopted “‘two sex model’ served mainly to reinforce gender and racial divisions by tying social status to the body.”
Tumblr media
It’s hard to convey how completely barking mad claims like these are. Not only have all cultures acknowledged the existence of two biological sexes in humans from time immemorial, we also recognize the two-sex system in other animals, and status and notions of superiority and inferiority has absolutely nothing to do with it.
I may force myself to write a full review of the documentary if I can make it through the entire thing without spontaneously combusting.

“Ethical violations in physics are just as prevalent now as they were 20 years ago, finds a survey of early-career physicists and graduate students — even though awareness of ethics policies has become more widespread.
The study, conducted in 2020 by the American Physical Society (APS) and published in this month’s Physics Today1, reveals alarming rates of unethical research practices and harassment in the physics community, including data manipulation and physical abuse.
Although the results show that institutions have made efforts to educate researchers on ethical issues, there has been “no substantive change in the power relations that were leading to such awful outcomes”, says Michael Marder, a physicist at the University of Texas at Austin and co-author of the report. “I think the routine is for things to be ignored and business to go back to usual — that’s what we documented. So, the question is, how can we stop that?””
