Remember when I mentioned the closure of MochaJump? Well, we're about to lose Inkblot, too, unless we do something.
Anyone who knows me here knows I'm all about decentralizing the Internet, but especially the online art scene. We artists are extremely limited in our options for posting, often times forced to stick to exploitative platforms like Twitter and Instagram. And as I've gone into at length before, part of the struggle in decentralizing the online art scene is building viable long-term alternatives, something that's become increasingly difficult to do in today's online economy and culture.
InkBlot.art is one such alternative that is now on the brink of closure. Its members received an email from the owner, Jacob Brown, laying his heart out about the state of the site and his own struggles in maintaining it in its current form without any form of sustainable monetary support.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is Inkblot as populated with the "potential" for millions of followers like Instagram and Twitter? No. Does it come pre-packaged with the nostalgia a lot of us are seeking from "old sites" like DeviantArt? No. But it will never get the chance to become those things unless we do our part to help. Inkblot is another drop in a massive bucket of attempts to provide safer and more artist-focused alternatives to many of the enshittified corporate platforms that steal our data, scrape our art for AI, and snuff out our voices with algorithms - we shouldn't overlook the opportunity to try and save it unlike all the others that have failed and shut down despite their best efforts. A better future will not fall into our laps - proactive change starts with us.
I'm going to be tossing a few dollars their way on their Ko-Fi, and I highly suggest you do the same if you have anything to spare. Even if it still amounts to "nothing", we have to be willing to do our part to protect these spaces and keep them alive, because if we as artists aren't willing to fight for these communities, who will?

My project I worked on for Weiss Schnee's birthday. It's an inkblot painting of Weiss Schnee. I make an ink blot and try to see the character within it to see what I'll paint. Below, I have a few images showing the process.

seeing as tumblr is the place I spent years building a platform on its hard not to panic (again) when there's possibilities of it sinking (again) because my income solely relies on commissions and my art reaching people
which is super hard to do on algorithm based websites and I've never been successful abt it

My sister just knocked on my bedroom door, she silentely entered and asked with the most earnestly confused face I've ever seen: Is that topless Jeff Bridges in the living room? Wha-why do you have that?
Me (an intellectual): aRhjslalfkjamahdjsk no! Humhmm I mean yeah!
Her: "Do it for him?"
Me: O-oh haha you never seen that? I-It's a famous simpsons meme! It's great I'll show you later. Wait wtf how did you find out it was him ?
(it's important to note here that I forgot my printer didn't have any black so the image that came out was a mishapen mess of pink blobs.)
Her: The curvature of the neck!
This is the og meme
This is what came out:

Fun facts and tidbits from Deep Cut’s stage dialogue:
While Shiver and Frye have favorite weapon classes they swear by (stringers for Shiver and splatanas for Frye), Big Man is the kind of guy who uses different weapons for different stages. Some of the weapons he uses are brushes (at Inkblot Art Academy), blasters (at Humpback Pump Track) and sloshers (at Eeltail Alley).
Frye likes coming up with attack names for Specials used in highly specific ways and charging in with a war cry in turf battles. She is not stealthy.
Deep Cut sells their treasure from the Crater at a high price to a guy running a shady stall in Hagglefish Market.
Shiver’s need for speed is not limited to riding Master Mega into battle. She has openly contemplated taking the cars at Mincemeat Metalworks and the Manta Maria itself for joyrides, and her parents were worried about her riding a bicycle because she’s a danger and a menace to everybody and WILL run you over.
Some stage dialogue basically confirms Deep Cut are housemates (oh my god they were roommates) - the three of them even go shopping for groceries at MakoMart together (Shiver recommends buying in bulk on Tuesdays for great savings!). Frye keeps trying to sneak unapproved snacks into their cart, but Shiver and Big Man are on to her shenanigans.
Big Man has been teaching the girls how to cook ever since they started living together! In Japanese, Shiver straight up admits to struggling with cooking when she moved out of her parents’ house since she’s never really had to cook before, and Frye says before Big Man taught them the basics she mostly ate junk she got from the supermarket. Either way, Big Man points out Frye has a bad habit of putting a ton of sugar into EVERYTHING. She’s... she’s working on it.
None of the Deep Cut trio have ever lived in a housing complex with apartments like Flounder Heights. Frye is very open to the idea, but Shiver isn’t since she thinks she wouldn’t get along well with neighbors.
Deep Cut’s go-to venue for birthday parties is Big Man’s house. It is unclear if it’s because it’s the biggest and nicest of the clan houses, or if it’s because Big Man (and his family by proxy) are the most easygoing and willing to hold parties there.
Both Big Man and Frye have a past with Undertow Spillway - Big Man got lost there once as a child while chasing butterflies, while a young Frye used to skip dance lessons and take her little brother with her to explore and look for treasure.
Frye used to skip school a LOT.
Deep Cut has filmed music videos at Mincemeat Metalworks and Hammerhead Bridge, but the latter was never released because Big Man was knocked over by a strong wind.
Some time ago, Deep Cut were extras for a movie filmed at Scorch Gorge. They were only in the film for two seconds.
Deep Cut are completely weirded out by the NILS Statue, are further weirded out by the fact no one really talks about anymore, and think it’s stupid that there are still tour boats sailing right by the statue. See, they CAN be sensible every once in a while.
Big Man likes to imagine the big cranes at Sturgeon Shipyard combining into a giant robot. Big Man is a nerd.
One of the Mahi-Mahi Resort dialogues has Shiver complaining about how hot it is at the poolside. In English, Big Man suggests taking a dip in the pool, and immediately realizes his friendly advice could be misconstrued because what works for him does NOT work for an inkfish. Compare and contrast Marie telling Callie to take a dip in said pool back in the first game’s NOA translation... they’ve definitely gotten better about this, Big Man really just comes off as a well-meaning goofball here. Meanwhile, in Japanese, Shiver’s complaint brings him to a realization: “so THAT’S why you keep standing in my shadow when we’re here...”
Frye is the kind of person who goes into turf battle with a weapon in one hand and a snack in the other (the only person, Shiver insists). This has made her the target for seagulls enough times that she has issued a public service warning about the little snack thieves.
Once, Frye used Zipcaster to enter one of the high cages at Scorch Gorge... and could not figure out how to get out. There were tears. She insists she didn’t cry and does not want to talk about it.

Dear Ink
Sometimes I wonder if the 'bad sans' are the one that are truly bad. Sometimes I wonder if the day will come that you will stop hiding behind your so called "friends", that you don't even care about.
Because you can't care about them. You're just a sweetly lying, small, little failure like that, huh Inkblot? :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ink: Okay, first of all, there's plenty of rogue sanses that hurt people, and also evil sanses; those two categories overlap but are not the same. I assume you mean Nightmare's gang, though. Ink: Second of all, I don't hide behind them, and they're my coworkers. Friends is a formal title to make the people we save more comfortable (and because it makes Swap happy which makes Dream content). Ink: Thirdly, I may be a short liar, but I'm not a failure. In fact, I'd say I'm pretty good at my job. The multiverse hasn't collapsed even a single time. Epic: NO THANKS TO YOU BRUH Ink: (dialogue in anger colour) IS THAT MY MISSING VIAL Epic: (disappearing guy meme)

A VERY lengthy ramble about Salmonids, Grizzco, and Big Run.
Aaaand this is the follow up to my previous long post where I talked about the new Drizzle Season maps with my stream of consciousness observations. It is long. I am sorry.
Now, I seem to be in the minority when I say that I absolutely love Big Run as an event. I sort of get this vibe that a lot of people aren't happy with it, and considering how infrequent it is compared to Splatfests, I can't say I blame them - especially considering how stacked against the odds the reward system is. Like, top 5% of the entire playerbase for a gold statue? The playerbase of one of the best selling Nintendo games of recent memory? That's a lot of people who're gonna be left in the dust simply by design. I honestly can't fathom why they made the PvE gamemode's event more competitive than the PvP one, but for someone like me? Between the two, I do enjoy Big Run more. I prefer mastering a difficult challenge with a rare accolade to prove it over the stomping/getting stomped that comes with Splatfests.
So yeah, there's gonna be a Big Run arc in Humanity's Endling. I am biased. I will admit to this. In fact, I'm even willing to spill the beans on the fact that Act II is the Big Run arc. You may think it odd that the Big Run arc is gonna be happening before the inevitable Alterna arc, but keep in mind that you are technically able to experience Big Run before the main story. In fact, the original trailer for Big Run sorta inadvertently hints at this since Mr. Grizz's radio is still the bear eating the fish, rather than the new one you get after clearing the main story. Now obviously, that's likely the case since Nintendo didn't wanna spoil that detail, but it's worth keeping in mind that the main story can just... never be done on a save file. Could be the final damn Splatfest of S3 before some asshole decides to actually do something about Cuttlefish lurking in the manhole, y'know?
Anyways, Um'ami Ruins as a Big Run map is... interesting. The first three maps we've had have all had some obvious way for the Salmonids to arrive - Wahoo World is on the coast, Inkblot was built on a river, and Undertow is literally the sewers, but Um'ami?
Tumblr media
We are in the desert. There is no water.
...or is there?
Now, bear with me for a second, because I'm gonna go full detective here. Full theorist. A game theorist, if you wi- *gets shot*
Why would the Salmonids even want to attack these ruins to begin with? Do they have some kind of deep rooted cultural vendetta against the people who built this place? Is there some sort of ancient artifact interred within these grounds which holds unfathomable power? Are the Salmonids simply stupid?
No, no, and no comment. It's a lot simpler, actually.
They're not after the ruins. They're after the town next to the ruins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That clearly isn't Splatsville. It's nowhere near big enough. It's just some tiny town in the middle of literally nowhere that just so happens to border these ruins, and is likely where the excavators and archeologists that are working here live. Additionally, such a town in the middle of nowhere would need some kind of way to get water, and there's this cool invention made by none other than Mario "Jumpman" Mario himself (source: trust me) called 'motherfucking pipes'. Those pipes probably run under/around the ruins - hell, those pipes getting built might even be how the ruins got discovered in the first place - and the Salmonids, being the chaos incarnates that they are, hitched a ride.
But if that's the case, why are we fighting them in the ruins? One of two reasons: they're trying to secure the ruins as some sort of outpost first and we're stopping them before they do that, or Grizzco is actively countering them by cutting off their advance at the ruins themselves. I'd imagine there's likely some sort of measures at play as well to cut off the flow of pipes for the exact situation of, "oh god there's hundreds of fish climbing out of my toilet", which would even explain how all that water gets there. The waterways are closed; wherever it wells up is where Grizzco moves in, as that's the only place the Salmonids can emerge.
That's probably why the alarms were going off in Undertow Spillway, beyond a literal 'perimeter breach' alarm. They likely closed off every waterway going to/from the place to contain the advance, it gets dangerously close to overflowing, alarms start ringing... this is right underneath the city. Shit was dire.
Big Run is a phenomenon that is as much a natural disaster as it is a literal act of war. We get to play as the soldiers, since that's the 'fun' part, but like with any hurricane, tornado, typhoon, forest fire, flood, or earthquake, there's so many moving parts to the response that a lot of people don't know about. First responders, evac, medical, meteorological, just to name a few.
A lot of people seem to be under the impression that the Salmonids are just hapless victims of Grizzco, and Big Run is just them striking back after dealing with Grizzco for so long, but honestly? I disagree. I mean, Grizzco ain't exactly squeaky clean, that's for damn sure, but the Salmonids aren't all that great either. They have their own culture and belief system for how the world works, and part of that culture is one that idolizes combat to the point where they'll attack in droves simply because the clouds dictate. If anything, they probably respect Grizzco and it's workers to some degree for being such formidable opponents time and time again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big Runs have been happening long enough for them to be mentioned in what's more or less the closest thing to an in-universe equivalent of the Bible, so their aggression is pretty heavily and historically documented. And clearly, they have no interest in joining the wider society outside of their clans in their murky waters (with Little Buddy being an extraordinary exception). Every sect of their society is trained for fighting one way or another; the smarter ones build and pilot weapons, the stronger ones are commanders, and they even have a place for the inexperienced where they serve as the snatchers. Their entire belief system is predicated on the idea that conflict makes one whole, that fighting and then dying is a process that lets them serve the cycle of nature. It's so deeply engrained into their way of life that they arm their children and send them to fight and die as well. They're a proud warrior race, through and through.
Does that justify Grizzco moving in to take their eggs? Because keep in mind, the Splatoon universe is also undergoing a constant energy crisis, and while we know Grizzco is doing shady stuff with the Golden Eggs... we're still collecting Power Eggs, too. In fact, that's literally the name of the job position - 'Freelance Power Egg Collector'.
On top of that, Grizzco isn't really keeping it secret. They're very open about what exactly is done. You go in, you fight Salmonids, you get their eggs, and you come back. It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it. It's legal, somehow.
Grizzco is likely providing legitimate aid for society through egg collection, which is probably how it's been able to grow to begin with - despite it being a front for Mr. Grizz's own schemes. Not only that, but society relies on Grizzco during Big Run. You can hate them all you want, but they're the ones who're making sure you still have a city to live in and power to run your damn internet.
But also, it's clearly not impossible to have some kind of positive relationship with the Salmonids, as the Octarians have managed to get some kind of trade deal going with them - although as of Splatoon 3, the Octarians seem to be less an actual army and more just the last few groupies Octavio still has after the Squid Sisters pulled some inspirational anime moment hijinks through the power of song twice. It just seems like the only thing the Salmonids are interested in are... more weapons. Weapons that they will then use during Big Run.
Imagine your neighbor breaking into your home and stabbing you with a knife you let him borrow because the clouds 'told him to'. It's... sorta easy to see why the rest of society hasn't really tried doing that. The Octarians probably didn't have much choice - or were at least comfortable with the trade since the Salmonids dwell on the surface, so they wouldn't be affected by their stampede.
Really though, it's a matter of two different shades of gray in constant opposition with each other. Lawful Evil versus Chaotic Neutral. Pick your poison.
If you haven't noticed, I've given this a lot of thought. Kaleb will have a ton to say in Act II about this whole situation. It truly is a uniquely fucked scenario, especially for someone who's world was taken away because of fighting like that... and that's without even getting into the actual things that'll happen during that act.
Before this post gets any longer, I do wanna put out a headcanon that'll be present during Act II, and that's the idea that there's only one Big Run that happens. I find it really weird and frankly absurd that this legendary, prophesized event of utter devastation at the hands of the Salmonids is... a neat, two day event that happens once every few months where they attack a single place and then leave. It's quite literally a biblical event, what's the deal?
So basically, the way I picture it is that Big Run is closer to a week, maybe longer, and basically everywhere is being attacked at once. Like, each Big Run we do ingame is just another theater for the fighting that's happening at the same time as the previous runs. Or, in other words, Wahoo World is under attack at the same time as Um'ami, and Inkblot is under attack at the same time as Undertow, and they're all under attack right now all at once. The fact that Mr. Grizz always acts like you've never heard of Big Run when it starts and the fact that you can hear the fighting in Inkopolis Square no matter the map honestly kinda lends to this idea.
It's just spaced out weirdly in the actual game's event lineup because having Big Run be a week long event that happens only once in the game's entire lifespan would be incredibly stupid from a commercial standpoint. Yes, I am huffing copium.
Anyways, I'm gonna stop myself here because holy shit this is a long post and it's so late that it's early. My sleep schedule is in shambles. I enjoy making these, though. I might do one regarding Alterna & Mr. Grizz himself when we get closer to the Alterna arc. Also I will still be playing Big Run tomorrow. Join me if you dare.

Sicily (my Captain Three) Fun Facts
i had a lot of fun making that post about 8, so i want to do one for sicily!! i’ve thought about her a lot! :)
this post also kind of outlines more just general information about the storyline of my agents, since it kind of all revolves around sicily. but eventually facts posties for the others will come out as i develop them more!
also this is very infodumpy lol. so be prepared! there’s no pressure to read all of this, but it WILL probably connect eveything more when it comes to my doodles of them!
anyway! here we go…
TW: mentions of emetophobia and broken limbs
During Splatoon 1
sicily was given to an orphanage in Calamari County at a young age. she never knew her parents, but she knew a little about where they came from.
both of her parents had a close military connection, but her dad did more than her mom.
her name comes from a book the orphanage named all of their children after. it’s an old geography book from the human age. sicily’s not sure what an italy is. her last name, Dyerize, comes from her dad.
when she turned 14, in a teenage crisis to learn more about her identity, she sought out to apply to the military to potentially discover more about her parents and to have a purpose in life.
as encouraged by some of her childhood friends, she went to Inkblot Art Academy for a bit for a Fine Arts degree, but dropped out in her 3rd year because of her overlapping duties for the squidbeak splatoon.
she completed her first campaign with a coworker, ryley. they held each other down and trauma bonded through the whole thing, so much so that they got into a relationship soon after it was completed.
ryley became more of a competitive ranked junkie than a secret agent, so sicily took over most agent duties unless he was needed.
during her downtime, she has a beautiful singing voice and would sometimes provide backup vocals for squid sisters tracks. however, she’s insistent her credit be hidden from the tracks, because she wants it to just stay as a hobby. her voice sounds really similar to theirs anyway, so it’s not like anyone would notice…
she and marie became very close. she likes callie too, but she felt like she almost naturally connected with her more.
During Splatoon 2
sicily met caroline and her little brother midway through the splatoon 2 campaign. learning from her habits at the orphanage, she kind of took to looking after them.
sicily and caroline especially became close. caroline would often come to her for guidance and for general life advice beyond the missions.
sicily didn’t really encourage caroline sneaking out from the apartment her parents monitored to do missions, though… but caroline would never listen when it came to that lol
when caroline’s brother dropped out, she helped him pack up his gear and leave. she’d never admit it, but after it was over she cried over his departure. she knew he’d be okay, but couldn’t shake the guilt of maybe traumatizing him.
sicily and ryley start to become distant.
During Octo Expansion
soon after that, she’d been assigned to watch over an unstable area near the mountains. that’s where she encountered an early kait, at the time a rival male octoling, and an average soldier partner (kira).
sicily didn’t want to engage because of the instability of the area, but the octoling was so aggressive that she was forced to. eventually, the ground gave out and her, captain cuttlefish, kait and kira fell into the Deepsea Metro.
she attempted to negate the damage from falling by using an illegal canned special, the bubbler. it worked, but bouncing around the bubble still left all of them with slight head trauma, causing kait and kira’s amnesia.
when she saved the 8s and captain cuttlefish, she punched the blender so hard she broke her arm on impact. she immediately passed out after from shock.
she doesn’t remember her sanitization. all she remembered from that time was a disgusting taste in her mouth, and a burning in one of her nostrils. similar to hand sanitizer.
similar to when they met on the surface, kait fought sicily and kira provided support.
immediately after the NILS statue was destroyed, sicily was rushed to the hospital and treated for her injuries. because so much of her ink capacity was filled up with the sanitized ink, she would constantly vomit up goo if overwhelmed.
kait(at this time aachi) was assigned to look after sicily. it’s not that kait didn’t like her, but it was weird getting adjusted to caring for your rival at their weakest, rather than take advantage of it.
sicily and ryley break up at this point. sicily kind of guessed that he was being unfaithful, and some inkstagram stalking later confirmed he was already in a new relationship soon after.
sicily, mentally and medically miserable and locked in her apartment in a cancer-patient like state, found a lot of comfort teaching kait more about the world. around here is when kait starts to fall in love with her.
after a LOT of flirting, training, rehabiliation, friendship building, gender identity exploration, and a passionate confession during a frustrating spar session, kait and sicily become girlfriends.
caroline also visited sometimes, and shipped the fuck out of them! also played turf war and ranked with kait when she was curious about it. sicily liked watching their game highlights.
During Splatoon 3
captain cuttlefish steps down and she’s promoted to the captain. she’s really excited, and says that she’s the captain because she’s the best at paperwork
(she is fucking awful at paperwork)
she’s assigned to travel to the splatlands because of an emergency call from a splatoon down there. before she leaves, kait proposes to her at their going away party.
she says yes, and cries and cries on the train ride to Splatsville.
she picks up 2 new agents from wandering the desert that surrounds the crater. at this time, they didn’t have names, so sicily, being as creative as she can, called the inkling girl Agent 3A and the octoling boy Agent 3B for the time being.
after they befriend deep cut though, they insist on naming them, thus the names Trikaya (Frye’s pick) and Mitsuo(Shiver’s pick) were born!
during this time, sicily and kait are texting and calling each other incessantly, until kait is deployed on a mission in bleached inkopolis square. they slowly start to text less, and eventually lose communication due to kait entering an unknown environment.
sicily, having flashbacks to ryley, immediately is overcome with anxiety about kait’s whereabouts. not to mention, kait is very much one of her safe people.
however, she tries not to let this get to her and continues with trikaya and mitsuo’s campaign.
THAT WAS A LOT! ok time for some one offs!
General Facts
she’s 5’4, and although not proud of it at first, she loves how tall kait is compared to her…
she’s such a sappy drunk! often she has a hard time expressing love to people, but when shes drunk she gets all mushy and sweet, especially to trikaya and mitsuo’s surprise.
she likes to foster animals, and has kind of a rescuer mindset.
extremely motherly to the new agent 3s.
she picked up wearing long skirts during her recovery period because they were easier than pants, and the style just kind of stuck with her. she still wears pants for functionality though
sometimes runs into ryley in ranked, still. she tries to avoid engaging with him, but with the both of them being frontline players it’s a little difficult not to!!
she likes nose kisses. she thinks theyre cute
mains shooters. kait is constantly whining at her about shooter bias so she has so much survivors guilt. her favorites are splattershot, 52 gal, and a forced learnt splash-o-matic
she loves to dress up kait, since she’s more crazy about weapons than fashion
WHEW! i think that’s everything. if you made it this far THANK YOU FOR READING YOURE SO COOL
Tumblr media
i also wrote this at 2 in the morning soo i might come back tomorrow and make edits heehee

The poetic cinema that it was Mr. Ji’s inkblot he made in anger which caused Chi yeol to discover that he was the one who kidnapped Haeyi and the fact that the first episode dealt with a mostly harmless stalker while the dangerous stalker was by his side all along.
Love or hate the murder plot, I do love the twists, not necessarily with regard to the suspect or motivation, but how it’s a scathing social commentary. Because wow, it really is the adults who are the most reprehensible, huh? Because kids absorb everything around them like a sponge, but adults should know better.
And Mr. Ji, as much as I would love to hate him, I really can’t because he is far too tragic. He’s no mastermind. All of his crimes have been sloppy. Even his choice of weapon - a slingshot and not a gun - show that a part of him is still that abused kid, like his anger and his impulses and the way he can change his devotion to hatred at the betrayal he feels toward Chiyeol. The adults around him really screwed him and his sister over. Even when his sister wanted to do the right thing, all she got from it was abuse. And it’s really dangerous that this kind of abuse is being normalized when justified that it’s for grades or the future of the kid. The adults screwed him up so badly that he could only trust a single adult, and fixated on him in a way to have a connection with his sister. I’m sure he became obsessively protective because of the residual guilt he felt at not being able to save his sister on time. If he had gotten therapy or the support he needed back then, even after he had killed his parent, would he have had a chance to heal alongside Chiyeol now?
The parallels are heavy with Mr. Ji, Seung-jae, and Su-a, and again it is a tragedy that the adults around them pushed them to the brink. Although there was still an element of choice because Mr. Ji still chose to kill his mother and others, I guess Seung-jae had what Mr. Ji and even his sister didn’t have at the time. Seung-jae would have gone the same route if he wasn’t pulled back.
And it’s really refreshing to me this emphasis on found family. It’s not necessarily that blood family is automatically bad, but you shouldn’t let preconceived notions and moral superiority cloud your judgment to the point that you’re already seriously damaging your child because you think you’re doing what’s ‘best’ for them. It’s refreshing to me that Haeng-seon wasn’t submissive towards her sister and was rightly mad because Haeyi is her daughter not anyone else’s. Same with Jaewoo. I’m glad they’re not going to push the redemption arc for their eldest sister just because she’s ‘blood’.
Another refreshing thing about this episode which I didn’t expect but really loved is the communication between Haeng-seon and Chiyeol. Chiyeol takes her concerns seriously because of course she would know Haeyi best. And I really didn’t expect it because most kdramas would have the lead keep it as a secret (another source of danger and misunderstanding), but I love, love, that Chiyeol was genuinely honest about the proof he found about Mr. Ji. I’m sure that even if Haeng-seon thought that Mr. Ji hated her, she didn’t expect him to go that far.
Another reason why I like the murder plot is because I prefer this as a source of tension rather than the usual break-up, miscommunication, long-distance, timeskip plots that usually happen during these final episodes. I would prefer my ship to be communicating as they hurdle outside obstacles together.

Various! Splatoon Manga x Skilled! Isekai'd! Reader
Wc: 1.4k
A/N: Died for a bit, my bad
A/N 2: Leo gets a fanboy?!!!
Back to the start! Previous Next
Tumblr media
“What?!”
You hadn’t planned on joining the tournament, not wanting to mess with any major battles. Wouldn’t this make the number of teams uneven? What happens if your teammates give it their all, and you get really far in the tournament, to the point that you make it up against a major team? And surely you can’t half-ass it, or else your teammates would be quite disappointed. Damn it, Leo!
“Yeah! We’ve been aiming to get stronger, and what better way than to have a chance at battling lots of strong players, right?”
“You’re not wrong, but…”
“It’s not like you were busy, you don’t have any other friends.”
Wow, thanks Tasha, how nice of you.
She’s not wrong though, and there’s no backing down now. You take a deep breath in, and do a couple of little stretches before the match.
“So, any words of encouragement, boss?”
“I dunno, kick ass I guess.”  You mumble unenthusiastically.
You look around at your teammates, and you’re sure that if you were in an anime you’d be able to see a comical sweatdrop on each of their temples. You sigh, and explain.
“There’s not much to add, you guys have already improved significantly since we started training together. Hell, Skull barely had any improvement tips for Tasha.”
You double-check your ink tank, making sure it’s hooked up correctly,
“Just do what we do, and don’t overthink anything. You guys are hella skilled, and I believe in you.”
…That came out a lot sweeter than you were hoping. It’s all true, though, you are extremely proud of how far they’re come.
Leo shouts out in excitement, Milo offers you a big smile, and you can see the way Tasha’s cheeks move up under her mask before going back to inspecting her weapon. There’s about one minute until you guys have to super-jump to your spawn point, so you take the opportunity to say one last thing.
“I’m sure I don’t have to remind you guys since you all have common sense, but just be sure to have respect for our opponents.”
The battle is set on inkblot art academy and it doesn’t take long for Leo to rush in and splat multiple opponents. Milo focuses on inking the ground while you run support right behind Leo, splatting an opponent that had ninja squid. Tasha’s already on the center pillar, being the last line of defense and not allowing anyone by. After inking all of the nearby areas, you retreat to the left side of the stage, covering that escape route. Milo does the same for the right side, inking that path with his Heavy Splatling. Leo stays on the front lines, basically spawn-camping the opponents. You almost feel bad, but these are the preliminaries, so you shouldn’t have expected too much competition. At least you weren’t all the way in their spawn. The timer hits two seconds, and your teammates are quick to save up enough ink for one last sub-weapon. You’ve taught them well.
The music dies down, and both teams look over at the big screen to see the score. It’s obvious who won, but it was always good to make sure. A win, 73.06% to 19.4%. Ouch. Their teammates are kind and respectful about it, wishing your team luck and offering you a handshake. You’re appreciative that they have good sportsmanship, that seems to be rare at your rank. You thank them for the battle, and your team heads to the main area of the tower to see what teams have entered and by how much they won. You already know that there are some big-shot players, but you want to see how much the main teams won by. Gloves’s battle was a decent match, he won by about 12%. The yellow-green team seemed to be doing much better than how they were doing when they started teaming up, winning by 30%. The S4’s score was unsurprising, getting a couple fewer points than your recent score.
Your team leaves Deca Tower, and can barely move with how crowded the front is. Milo gently grabs your hand as well as Leo’s so that the two of you don’t get lost (And probably for comfort, too). He’s not too worried about Tasha, with her height towering over most inklings, along with the fact that she’s fine in crowds. Well, anxiety-wise, at least.
You guys almost make it out of the crowd, but a shout of your name interrupts you.
“This way!” He’s waving his hands around excitedly, despite having seen you just a few minutes earlier. Goggles is quick to hug you when you come over, and you stand there like a brick, unmoving for a second before slowly cradling one arm around him awkwardly.
You spot a character that’s new to the story. There’s a smile on his face, and he’s got - supposedly - the freshest gear in town.
‘He should be fun to be around.’
He fixes his gear, almost in a comical way, before introducing himself.
“Yo! The name’s Gloves! I saw the beginning of your battle, and I can bet that you’re gonna do great in the tourney!”
He looks over at Leo, pointing right at his face with an exaggerated swing of his arm.
“And you! You’re super fresh! You’re quick to attack, and you can hold your ground well with those dualies. You’ve got some crazy agility, props to you, dude!”
You see the way Leo’s eyes light right up, it seems he’s not used to having fans.
‘If we keep battling like this, that’s sure to change.’
You let the two dorks chat for a bit until you’re cut off by an announcement over the loudspeakers;
["The battle to be king of the square has begun!”]
A smirk begins to form on your face. Game on. There’s no going back now. The rules are explained, and some notable players are pointed out. Gloves is the first, and you waddle to hide behind Milo since Gloves was right beside you a minute earlier and you didn’t want all the attention on you. Next they point out Rider, you’re surprised you didn’t spot him earlier - he’s not that far away from where you’re standing. He looks around and meets your eyes, the both of your giving eachother a nod that says no going easy on eachother, and no hard feelings. Next up is Skull, and you spot Avi behind him, who shoots you a wink(?), you couldn’t quite tell, but his lopsided smile along with the way his head tilted to the side made you assume that that was the case.
“Hey, doesn’t Goggles pants Rider and Skull right about now?” You quickly survey the area, and indeed, Goggles is happily making his way over to the pair. Before he can do anything, you smoothly tug him backward by the back of his jacket. He still says the line he was supposed to say, so it seems that your little intervention didn’t change the story. Rider didn’t notice Goggles there at first, only looking behind him when he made his presence known. Rider sees the way your hand is just now letting go of the back of his jacket. He also sees the way Goggles’ arms drop from in front of him to his sides, as if he was reaching out for something. Rider gives to a nod of thanks, now realizing that Goggles was up to his regular shenanigans and that you may have just saved him from a really awkward situation.
Skull is none the wiser, and only looks at you. Just.. starring. You know that he’s just acknowledging your presence, but at least give a nod or something!
Your thoughts are interrupted by the final notable player being announced. There’s no doubt that there should be boss music playing when you look up to the stage and see an Inkling standing with his arms crossed. He’s standing above everyone, the only thing higher up than him being his ego.
‘Things sure are about to get interesting. Can’t wait to see an entirely new level of skill~.’

Weekly Fashion Challenge - Week 15
So how are we holding up, some ten days into the third season of Splatoon 3? Getting used to the Kraken Royale and the Super Chum? Experimenting with the new gear? Still winding down from last week's Big Run?
Well don't get too comfortable, because we're heading to familiar territory for this week's fashion challenge theme....
Tumblr media
Inkfish of Inkblot!
Inkblot Art Academy, freshly saved from the Salmonid menace, is an iconic part of Inkopolis. It's a lot of people's favourite stage, Off the Hook's outfit designer supposedly graduated from here, they hold music festivals and do performance art (or is that just battles), and supposedly, Judd comes here to be a model, sometimes. The people who work and study here probably have very interesting lives, and that's why this week we're imagining what it's like for them!
Rules:
Put together an outfit of any kind that you feel matches this week's theme. Be sure to give it a name, as well!
Send it to me via ask or submission, please don’t add it to a reblog, that makes it very easy to miss! Also, please make it clear that it is a submission for the challenge and not just a regular submission.
Only one outfit per person! You can submit multiple photos of that single outfit, though.
Please include the gear you picked in the submission. It makes my life just a touch easier!
The outfit should be submitted before Monday morning, as I will pick my favourite submissions to feature on Monday evening.

Since you've done a Magical Girl AU for Winnie the Pooh, I wonder if you have anything else done for Steamboat Willie, since he's on PD, too.
I don't have anything concrete, but the main idea is a young beginner artist named Willow Winchester, who suddenly becomes a witch that's tasked with using the power of arts and colors to save the humble yet historically rich town of Inkwell Bay from nasty inkblots (a reference to Bendy and the Ink Machine and/or Epic Mickey? Or perhaps a metaphor to those soulless Horror games/movies that keep popping up? Take your pick, both are valid interpretations).
Willow is guided by a cheeky and clever mouse with a red ribbon named Winnie (representing Willie/Mickey), and her main items are a magic pocket watch (transformation device), plus a rainbow paintbrush to cleanse the villainous blots and protect her beloved town.
And I'm pretty sure this won't work since it's most likely copyrighted material, but I was thinking that Willow's transformation speech should be "Just Say Cheers!" (as in "We Got Ears, Just Say Cheers!", from Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse). Her cleansing spell is "Colors mix and colors splash, cleanse this inkblot in a flash!"
The working title is Steamboat Witchy.

Missing mother
Inspired by "Idea 7" from @halogenrobotics's list of ideas, he also helped out a lot by being my beta reader and giving suggestions as I wrote this.
Also this is pretty long so be warned.
-----
Whilst trying to survive in the Pizzaplex, Gregory discovers something important regarding the fate of his mother.
Gregory knew it was a trap, it was incredibly obvious, so he expected to find Vanessa and the other animatronics ready to tear him apart as soon as he stepped into the main stage area. But what choice did he have? With no other lead in finding out what was really going on at the Pizzaplex besides the weird room in Fazerblast all he could do was what she told him.
Before the elevator doors opened Gregory quickly jumped into Freddy, hoping it would buy him some time to make a plan, as they both looked around they didn’t find anything out of the ordinary for the main stage area… Had they been tricked? Did Vanessa send them here so she could escape?
"Wait, I think I see something!" Freddy yelled out "Over there, on the stage! A CD lying on the floor!"
Gregory squinted as he leaned out of the animatronic's stomach "Uh, I don't see anything?"
"How odd, it seems like I am the only one able to see it…"
"Maybe it's because of Roxy's eyes? I mean she was able to see through walls after all…"
The two slowly approached the CD, making sure to not be spotted by the Staff Bots or any other animatronic that might still be lurking around, the CD in question was quite plain, save for a series of numbers written on it.
"Do you see anything that can play whatever is on this?" He asked, all the computers he saw had no HDD so they were out of the question.
"I do see something that might help but… It is in a room that should not exist… And it seems the door has some sort of mechanism keeping it hidden and locked."
Gregory sighed, of course this had to be behind some complicated puzzle "Right, well let's try to figure it out… This better be worth it…"
After looking around for clues and finding fifteen other CDs strewn around the Pizzaplex they eventually figured out that the mechanism hiding the door was connected to specific cardboard cut-outs. They would activate with a flash from the Faz camera and with the door finally open they found an odd room. It was completely empty save for an armchair, the CD player and a TV playing one of those Fazbear and Friends cartoon commercials over and over no matter what, even turning down the volume didn't stop it from blaring the same song.
Gregory quickly sorted the CDs so they could, hopefully, listen to them in chronological order and played the first one.
"Hello Vanessa. How are you feeling today? You look a little tired." A woman spoke, apparently the tapes were therapy sessions Vanessa had with multiple therapists.
"I think something is up with that Vanessa…" Gregory mumbled as he pulled the 15th CD out of his bag "I thought maybe Vanny was a split personality of hers or something, but it doesn't seem quite right."
"What makes you think that?" Freddy asked as he stood guard by the door to make sure nobody got in.
"I read a bunch of books on therapy and mental health, plus my mom was a therapist so she would answer any questions on the subject… It just feels off, like she's pretending she has a split personality but also when she does it she feels like a different person too… I don't know…" he sighed as he put the CD in, hoping that the last two would give him some kind of definitive answer.
"I saw some inkblot test results in your file. I like inkblot tests…" Yet another woman spoke, another therapist that would meet the same end as the others but this time he recognised her voice.
"You are shaking… Is everything alright…?" Freddy asked, clearly worried, but Gregory couldn't answer him.
He had always suspected his mother's death hadn't been a simple accident like those adults told him when they had to break the news to him. Gregory had always wanted to find the truth behind her death and the Pizzaplex was the last place he expected to find it.
"Mom…" was all he could manage to say before completely breaking down, desperately trying to wipe the tears away to no avail.
"Gregory… It is ok to cry…" Freddy said as he gently hugged him. “I am here for you…”
He wasn’t sure for how long they stood there, Freddy holding him as he cried all the tears he held back for so long, ever since he lost his mother he had been shunned by the workers at the orphanage he was sent to for being a crybaby so he had learned to bottle up the negative feelings and just power through them.
Eventually Gregory pulled away, eyes red and puffy but he was now more determined than ever to get to the bottom of this, whatever it took.
“I saw an arcade cabinet in her hideout… I feel like that’s another hint, I think it was called Princess Quest 3?” he thought out loud as he climbed into Freddy’s stomach hatch. “Pretty sure one of the logs I found mentioned there being two more cabinets…”
With that the two searched for the other cabinets as Gregory played through them, for some reason he couldn’t shake the feeling that the games had some deeper meaning, they had to be connected to whatever was going on, a blonde woman stumbling upon whatever that giant gooey rabbit thing was.
“Well, now all that’s left is playing the one inside Vanny’s hideout…” Gregory said as he got to the end of Princess Quest II “She probably knows what we’re doing so she’ll be guarding the last cabinet, if we manage to lure her away I can quickly finish that one and hopefully something will happen…”
“It will be quite dangerous.” Freddy warned as the two walked towards Fazerblast.
As soon as they got too close to the hideout they found an army of S.T.A.F.F. Bots slowly approaching them, Vanny laughing from her safe spot as she pressed a button on some sort of remote controller.
“Disassemble Freddy.” she ordered and the animatronics quickly surrounded the bear as they pushed him off to a lower level of the maze where more bots surrounded him as they clawed at his parts, Gregory glared at the woman as she slowly pulled out a knife and began to gleefully skip out of the room, ready to catch him and kill him once and for all.
He quickly made a break for the hideout, dodging Vanny, the S.T.A.F.F. Bots as well as Chica and Roxy.
“Come in, Gregory. Can you hear me? I still have a signal.” he heard Freddy’s voice come from his watch as he climbed the stairs leading up to Vanny’s hideout. “Get to the Fazer Blast booth. Use the security desk. Beat the last arcade game!”
He rushed towards the machine, heart drumming in his chest, he had to finish this quickly before Vanny caught up to him, the game started with the princess in what appeared to be a recreation of the hideout, as he left the room a bunch of shadowy version of the character attacked the princess, as if trying to get her to go back to where she started but that didn’t deter him. As he kept searching for the final key he found what looked to be an early concept for the Vanny costume.
“I knew it…” he mumbled as he kept exploring the map, trying to go as fast as possible as he could hear Vanny getting closer. Gregory quickly figured out the room where to use the Vanny mask and the odd greenish rabbit plushie to get the key as he ran to the locked curtain. There he found yet another door, he approached it hoping it wouldn’t require another key. Vanny was almost there and he wouldn’t have enough time to go back to look for any more. Shockingly it did open and a scream echoed from the arcade as the screen faded to black.
Gregory turned around to find Vanny, hunched over by the door. She quickly took off the suit’s head and tossed it as far away as she could and looked at him, tears running down her face.
“You… You freed me…” she told him, voice shaking. As she frantically took off the rest of the costume while Gregory carefully moved towards the window to see the other animatronics leaving the Fazerblast maze to return to their proper places, seemingly free from Vanny’s orders. Meanwhile Vanessa stood there, kneeling by the door and quietly sobbing.
“This better not be a trick…” he warned her while carefully inching closer “What’s going on? What do you mean I freed you?”
The woman took a deep breath, trying to calm her breathing and find the words to properly explain what had happened. One moment she was testing that VR game based off of those old Fazbear horror games, the next she could hear a voice in her head commanding her to find an old burned down pizzeria to dig up some half burned animatronic, create a virus and release it into the servers of Fazbear Entertainment and get a job at the Pizzaplex as a security guard. All the while a new voice appeared in her head, Vanny. HE made her so that he could control her more easily and to avoid any pesky therapist undoing his hard work.
For months she had been living as if half asleep. She couldn’t scream for help or escape. No matter how hard she fought against it, Vanny would always take over and make sure she could see her kill each of the victims, from her therapists to kids she lured with promises of their favorite animatronic wanting to meet them in an employee only room. Gregory should have been the same, yet he had managed to escape everything and now she was free. She couldn’t feel her presence in her head nor the voice of the man who had started all of this.
Gregory carefully listened to her story, it was crazy but somehow it made sense. He knew about the rumors of those Five Nights at Freddy’s games being based on real events but he had thought they were a result of people reading too much into a game. Yet he couldn’t deny the parallels, someone dressed as a rabbit luring and killing kids, animatronics acting oddly and attacking anyone in sight for no apparent reason. Sure the ones in the Pizzaplex were hacked by Vanny but she purposely made them act creepy, as if trying to recreate the behavior of the possessed animatronics in the old pizzerias in a twisted sense of nostalgia.
“This place is gonna open for business soon…” Vanessa said, snapping the boy out of his thoughts “I can drive you home, if you want?”
“Oh, um…” he didn’t want to return to the orphanage, especially not after getting attached to Freddy, there was no way he would be able to come back here again and part of him didn’t want to leave at all without him.
“Or I could buy you a bus ticket or something if you don’t feel safe around me?” she suggested, assuming his hesitation was from lack of trust.
“I… I don’t have a home…” He sighed, even after letting out all his bottled sadness it still hurt to say that.
“Oh,um… How about this…” Vanessa slowly got up from the floor “You could stay at my place, I’ll even let you keep the Fazwatch, that way you can stay in contact with Freddy or call the police if I… Well, you know…”
He thought for a bit before answering, “Mhm…Deal.”
Gregory expected to be back to living on the street after a couple of days, back at the orphanage couples would always bring him back for being ‘too much to handle’ Yet Vanessa didn’t seem to get frustrated at his antics, not even after dealing with him for two weeks. She even agreed to help him build a small robot that Freddy could control remotely so the two could hang out without trying to smuggle a huge animatronic bear out of the Pizzaplex.
“Gregory, you should tell Vanessa about your mother.” Freddy’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. “She will find out eventually, I believe it is best if you tell her before that happens.”
He frowned, he knew the animatronic was right. Vanessa already struggled to cope with what happened, often having nightmares about Vanny taking over her body once again and murdering more people. It was why he hesitated to tell her about his mother, he knew she would blame herself despite having been brainwashed by a serial killer.
“Oh, there you are!” Vanessa said as she walked into the kitchen, she paused as she saw his serious expression. “What’s wrong?”
“Gregory has something important to tell you.” Freddy said, his plush hand patting his shoulder.
“Alright, fine…” he huffed as he looked at her “Just remember that this is about what Vanny did, not you…”
She frowned, she didn’t quite remember everything Vanny did. All she could remember was the blood on her hands and her laugh as she tried to struggle to regain control of her own body. Still Vanessa wanted to know, if nothing else she could offer her apologies for what she did.
Vanessa responded, “Alright, go ahead…” “You know those therapists you had?” Vanessa nodded hesitantly before Gregory continued, “One of them was my mom…” Gregory stopped as he could already see all the colors leave Vanessa’s face “Vanny killed her, not you…”
“It’s my fault she existed in the first place!” she cried out, a million thoughts racing through her head. If only she hadn’t collected those stupid tapes in that stupid game. Not only would Gregory’s mother still be alive, but all of the people she killed would still be alive if she just realized what was going to happen when she played that last tape “I am so sorry…”
“There’s no way you could have known this was gonna happen!” he yelled, snapping her out of her negative thoughts “I’m sure she would think so too...”
With that he quickly tackled and hugged her as she kept on crying, Freddy joined the hug as well “Do not blame yourself, you did everything you could Vanessa.” “I… Thanks, you two…” she smiled as she hugged them both back “Thank you so much for saving me, I swear I’ll make it up to you one day…"

(Strangely enough, his is not the first page in her journal. It comes after not only Kris, but Rody, Luke, and Gordin -- all of the original members of the Seventh Platoon (chronology separates Cecille from the others), as though she had been putting off writing it as long as she could. As with Kris, the page has turned soft at the corners, though it retains more of its original crispness toward the middle. It gives the impression of a page looked at often, but with great care.)
Marth Marius Lowell. 19. January 21st. Prince of Altea. King of the United Kingdom of Archanea
(Then, made to fit between this and the rest of the page:)
He and Kris are attending The Officer's Academy in Fódlan. Summer... Blue Lions
Hero of the War of Shadows. Slayed the Shadow Dragon and the Dark Pontifex. Has a great number of allies, including Emperor Hardin and Empress Nyna. Supposedly adept with the sword and quick on his feet. Known for bringing friend and foe alike beneath his banner.
(Beneath this is a great mess of ink; under the light, there are many slight grooves in the paper's surface and some warping at odd points here and there, indicative of some blotting and words very ferociously scratched out. Some grooves are jagged, but most are crisp and in line with the box she drew later to cover up the words more cleanly. Some other, smaller blots nearby only just spill past the edges. If you happened to be someone who knew your knight well, you might just be able to imagine her panic at how 'unsightly' the great mass of dark ink looks on the page, judging by the way she tried to 'save' it by attempting to turn it into a cute cat. Unfortunately, it is still very obviously only a cat-shaped box, and a mildly ugly one at that. Its fluffy tail devolves into a despondent squiggle at the end -- a poignant conclusion to a harrowing tale of a girl who tried and failed to cross something out in pen.)
Haven't gotten to meet him. Well-spoken from afar. Well-liked. The people in his service are kind. Met him today. Just as well-spoken as he appears. Kind. Reassuring. Asked us to become royal guards. Somehow gained his trust... ...Kris was really happy. Together... ...I don't want our training to end.
(The next line is written a bit heavily, though for once the writing is immaculate, bereft of any inkblots and the hesitation that portended them; it is clear she took great care to write it well.)
"Until now, you've only followed orders, never thinking for yourself. But that's going to change now. You will think for yourself, and find your own answer. That is my punishment to you." Atone with my life, not my death.
(Following this, as seems to be the norm for her journal nowadays, she has made note of various things. Predictably there are likes and dislikes, as well as gift ideas... but if one were to turn the page, they might find a smattering of ideas humbly scrawled toward a bottom corner of its back-- chief among them being simply the word 'tactician?')
ミ★
Similarly to Kris, Marth is a singular existence to Katarina as well (it's almost like those guys are two halves of the same whole or smth...crazy), though he occupies a much different place in her heart. There's a part of her that essentially reveres him for not only allowing her to live, but forgiving her and welcoming her back home after everything. Not only this, but he has always held fast to his ideals, has always stood for what he believes is right, and treats others with such kindness and empathy -- in many ways he is a paragon of the person she wishes she could have been. Most importantly of all, however, is the punishment he gave to her. That was the point in which she knew he understood her and wanted the best for her. He understood her, accepted and forgave her, but he did not absolve her of her sins. She recognizes full well that his punishment was delivered in such a way that she might grow, and it touches her more than she can put into words.
Her loyalty to him is absolute -- unbreakable (ironic as that may sound). Part of this is because in some ways, he's the means through which she acts out her atonement: the person he is to the world is precious and irreplaceable, just as his ideals guide those around him to be better people, and guide the people of Archanea as a whole toward light, toward hope. He is fair, kind, and just, and never misplaces his heart. For this alone he is exceedingly worthy of her respect and fealty, but the other part is that... well, he's her friend. Err... Sort of. Never in a hundred thousand billion trillion years would she ever dare to say that because how dare she! But for what it's worth, he really is. He is one of the first people she thinks of in all things not because he's her liege, but because he notices the small things about her and knows when to mark them with worry or with a smile; because he teases her sometimes, and though she panics so easily and never knows how to react, it makes her happy that he does; because he is kind and good to her; because he and his Altea are her home.
She adores him and does her best to protect him and his ideals, though her vision of protecting him involves taking on the more painful or unsavory burdens if she must. It might be ironic or just downright foolish, but she would make use of all the worst parts of herself to cut away even just a few thorns from his path; she can rest easy in this conviction because she knows he is the sort of person who would never ask her to. And that's why she would.
He's also notably pretty much the only person aside from Kris that she might truly relax around, though that takes a little more work as she's rather conscious of their stations and always does her utmost to afford him the proper respect. (She is opening up more to people such as Caeda and Kurthnaga of late though!) [waves my hand] All those typical knightly factors definitely come into play, but in the end, she's very attached to the way their relationship is now, which is definitely, absolutely not akin to a friendship. >vo)v
