new york winters never fared well for frigga . she was always too cold , never wrapped up well enough against the blistering winds that faced the city. never quite enough layers , never quite enough preparation .

but either way , here she was . bundled up to the nines in enough furs that even the most ignorant people turned their heads at the queen , standing beneath the firmly shut wooden doors . if anything , this was another home to her . she had a few of these types of places - her actual home on vanaheim , the palace on asgard where she raised her children .

but nothing , nor anyone , could lay a finger on what this place meant to her . the sanctum sanctorium .

a gloved hand would lay flat on the dark oak , willing it open for a moment ; she knew it would open regardless of any pressure put upon the centuries - old entranceway , and there was no need to force it . and soon enough , the doors would creak open to reveal the glittering interior , the rather glamorous figure stepping inside with a soft smile .

eyes would glance to the bannister for any sign of life ; and in receiving none , she would peel off her many layers to be left on the coat hooks , willing the doors to click shut as she pulled the last jacket from her frame - leaving her in a simple long flowing skirt in a peacock blue, matched with a long cardigan , t-shirt and jewellery to compliment . well , she is a lady of high fashion , after all .

but soon , low heels would pad their way up the winding staircase , quietly announcing her arrival as she made her way across rickety floorboards to where she’d know she’d find a certain sorcerer possibly brooding .

and soon enough , she’d find the door she’d been looking for - tapping a couple times , before calling out ~

“ i hope you’re not sulking too much without me , are you ? “

CHAPTER 00 -- HANDS

--- because four years ago i fell into a hole, so as soon as [hands] touch, I wonder if they're strong enough to pull me to the top

Her hands shook. Of course they did, she split them open getting out of the handcuffs. They were bleeding, god were they bleeding. Blood stained her hands, her own this time, and they shook. The cuffs dangling on the chair clicked each time they hit the chair. Her ears rang. Everything was loud, so, so loud. She could hear her pulse in her ears and her heart thump thump thumping in her chest. She couldn’t breathe. Her lungs were failing her. She was going to die here.

Until she didn’t. Untill she woke up in the hospital, arms suspended in the air, her hands intact. Even suspended, did they shake. The incessant shaking would not stop. It hadn’t stopped since she freed herself. Lines ran down her wrist and across the back of her hands, showing just how the cuffs scraped and tore the skin. Her fingers, though intact and aching, were relatively unharmed. 

Until the doctor told her that her hands would likely shake forever, and most definitely be as cold as they were forever. It was nerve damage after all, there was nothing left to feel the warmth. The nerve endings were shot, the time for them to recover having passed by the time she was found. 

So, she took her shaking hands and went to the only place she thought of; New York city’s Sanctum Sanctorium.

4) having Odin actually have a purpose related to the subject of the movie (which is the event of Ragnarok not the people bringing it about, whoever they might end up being), in that he's the one telling them about the approaching end, (cause you know he's the all-father and he's supposed to like protect Asgard, so if he senses Ragnarok coming, he'll try to warn people,) rather than Surtur who's not supposed to have anything to do with the main story at this point, he's only a random monster Thor fought at the beginning, our audience doesn't know that he's got something to do with Ragnarok in the comics, SET UP AND REVEAL, literally the basics of storytelling omfg (*breathes*) ))

Forget You

Tony Stark and Stephen Strange had been locked in a battle with the God of mischief Loki when the God sustained a nasty blow to the head, knocking him unconscious. 

Stephen being the good doctor that he is because no matter how many wizard powers he has he earned that PhD dammit, hurries over to check on Loki, despite Tony’s many protests. In the end, Stephen decides to take Loki back to the sanctum, though locked up, just to make sure he’d be alright. 

When Loki woke up a few hours later, both heroes were there waiting. Loki groaned and looked around, a look of confusion on his face. 

“Where am I?” He asked, his voice still slurred by sleep. 

“The sanctum sanctorium.” Stephen answered calmly. “Do you know what your name is?” 

“Of course I do it’s....” Loki began, but trailed off as he realized he actually couldn’t remember his own name. 

“Stephen this is just a trick” Tony hissed to the wizard, but he ignored him. 

“Can you tell me where you’re from? Who your family is?” Stephen prompted, but Loki couldn’t come up with the answers for those either. 

“We have to help him Tony.” Stephen said, pulling the billionaire off to the side while Loki looked around his surroundings, a look of deep concentration on his face as he tried to come up with any memories at all. 

“Stephen, are you crazy? He’s a villain, and tried to take over the world.” Tony hissed, shooting a glare towards the God. 

“Yes, but he’s lost his memories and maybe we can use this as a chance to help him be good. It would just be cruel to lock him up when he doesn’t even remember why he’s evil.” Stephen pleaded, and Tony sighed, giving in to the doctor’s puppy eyes. 

“Fine, but you’re the one cleaning up after him if things go bad.”

Two days later and Stephen came back from a shopping trip to find Tony and Loki discussing theoretical gamma physics. Evidently, the God was actually good company to have around when he wasn’t trying to kill you, and was smarter than either hero had thought to give him credit for. Loki looked up when he heard Stephen and smiled brightly over at the doctor. 

“Stephen, welcome back.” 

“Thank you Loki. Tony isn’t boring you is he?”

“Hey!” Tony huffed, making both other males laugh.

A week after his accident, Loki was alone in the sanctum, well alone aside from Wong who was guarding the more important items in his room, not willing to trust the God at all.  He was watching the news, when a story about the Avengers came on, and suddenly the memories came rushing back to him. His father’s lies, his fights with his brother, the attack on New York, everything leading up to his memory loss. His mind reeled with the new information as he fiddled around with using his magic once more. He froze when the door opened and he could hear Tony and Stephen coming back. 

“Loki? Stephen and I were thinking we could all go out to dinner, you can pick where we go this time.” Tony called out. Loki looked at the television as it flashed an image of himself from New York. 

“Loki?” Stephen called. A newer memory flashed through Loki’s mind, one of him, Tony, and Stephen all curled up together in the sanctum library reading books before all falling asleep in one another’s arms. Loki reached over and turned off the television. 

“Coming.” He called. It couldn’t hurt anything to pretend he didn’t know. After all, for probably the first time in his life, he felt actually happy and maybe even loved.

Two months later, the three males were comfortably laying on the couch together watching a movie when screams could be heard outside. They all quickly stood and hurried out to see what was happening only to find the city being attacked by the latest villain. 

“Loki get back inside.” Tony ordered as he activated his ironman suit, watching the villain come closer. 

“It’s safer there.” Stephen added. Loki looked between them, then to the villain and pushed his way past the two heroes, using his magic to conjure his knives and uniform. 

“I’d rather join in on the fun.” Loki said, with a grin.

“So, how long have you known?” Tony asked once the battle was over and Stephen was stitching shut a wound the billionaire had gained. 

“Since a week after I lost my memory.” Loki admitted, refusing to look either male in the eyes. 

“Then why did you pretend?” Stephen asked softly. Loki was silent for a while before finally answering. 

“I liked you two taking care of me, treating me like a normal person...loving me” He admitted, whispering the last part quietly. The two heroes were still able to hear him and shared a look before going over to either side of the God. Loki looked up at them. 

“Loki, you don’t have to pretend anymore.” Stephen said kindly. 

“We fell in love with you.” Tony admitted. 

“The fake me.” Loki mumbled. 

“No, the real you. We know the mistakes you’ve made, but now we can help you be better. We’re in this together.” Stephen said, taking one of Loki’s hands into his. Tony did the same with Loki’s other hand. 

“Together?” Loki asked, hope in his voice. 

“Together.” Tony agreed.

I can't stop thinking about how when Ikki enters the bathhouse of horrors from the last episode, he sees a Shinto torii at the entrance. It is a symbol that represents the departure from the mundane to the sacred, it establishes the bathroom as a sacred place in Ikki's mind. And then inside we have that whole environment of chaos and literal demons hanging out in the most important part of the bathroom. Keeping the bathtubs clean is one of Ikki's greatest devotions, that's the boy's sanctum santorium.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, inside Ikki's head, is the bathhouse (and by extension, his house), the setting that represents his family, a desecrated temple?

It’s been a few weeks now so I might as well go ahead and answer this (lmao)

I was putting it off cause I was waiting for my homie Nacho’s take of it.

(They’ve walked in Ikki’s parentifaction shoes so they know Ikki’s character and psychology better than a fish knows water.)

That’s some FIRE analysis. I don’t think I’m well-researched enough on the shrines and meanings and whatever but the idea or concept that it’s a departing from mundane to sacred?

Only to then enter some fcked carnival-music filled fun house made out of children’s nightmares 💀 (hoo boi)

One thing I will say here tho (analysis-wise)

Is that similar to the Japanese language being it’s own vague art form for abstract interpretation — where multiple interpretations can be drawn from a single sentence.

Likewise the monsters being in the bath house probably represent a bunch of different things all at once:

- Ikki’s guilt for failing to save the people sacrificed

- how he people pleases at the loss to himself/his own identity ( that weird hypnotic state he was in when the monsters were calling for him)

- How the customers are both weak innocents (who got sacrificed cause he couldn’t save them), as well as monsters consuming the time and attention of the people who own/work in the bath house.

- And these “customers” being monsters can also represent how Ikki sees the sacrifices as people that could have been customers of/at the bath house or/and how the customers very easily could have been sacrificed themselves.

And it’s as you said

Ikki’s sacred sanctorium are the baths. He’s supposed to take care of them, make sure it’s clean, keep things “afloat” I guess you could say.

So the monsters being in the bath are the perfect representation at how Ikki sees and feels himself a failure. He failed to keep the baths clean/demon free.

I remember one of the anons (was it OOPArts? 🤷‍♂️ lmao) analyzed / theorized that perhaps the reason why Ikki was hypnotized was because these monsters in the bath represented an enticement where those sacrificed weren’t just dust in the dirt.

“Stay here with us because this dream is better than reality.”

But? I think that kind of enticement is….. very interesting. Because it’s not like he can turn these monsters back into humans.

🧐 If Ikki finds that enticing then that means he’d rather live with demons inside his most sacred space, rather than acknowledge the harsh truths of reality — which?

Damn. A good way to show how easily Ikki represses things (until he can’t anymore).

Sanctus Sanctorium headcanons

During the Blip Cherry spends a lot of time in the Sanctum. I feel that the Sanctum being a hotspot for magic and full of talismans items and enchanted objects, it does respond to people.

When Cherry starts spending time at the Sanctum regularly, both Dr. Strange and Wong are able to tell if Cherry around because the air begins to smell like vanilla and warm baking spices. At first they think it’s because she must be baking, but when they realize that the scent fades as soon as she leaves.

During the Blip, Cherry comes over to help “keep house” as Wong is gone quite a bit taking care of Sorcerer Supreme things. She’ll often find the Sanctum will provide her with things she needs. She learns this after a couple times of “needing a step stool” or a “duster” and as soon as she announced it, she’ll find what she needs settled in a nearby table or leaning against the wall. She at first thinks good luck until it inexplicably happens over and over.

Cherry is given free range of the kitchen. There isn’t much there when she first starts coming over and finding that Wong and Stephen often just lived like bachelors and getting their meals from the nearby bodegas and cafes. She quickly makes this her spot where she leaves warm pots of tea (and later coffee for Stephan) on the stove, pastries on the counter and fresh bread. She manages not to over feminize the kitchen but often keeps fresh flowers and greenery on the table. It’s the only room Cherry really “changes” and although Stephan was wary at about Cherry having free reign of the Sanctum once he walks into the kitchen and sees the fresh food and drink Cherry had left behind Stephan quickly changes his mind.

Stephan often claims that Cherry is part Disney princess as he sees how the Sanctum responds to her.

At least he's not alone, and it's not like they could be hunted down by an army of robots, then kidnapped and forced to fight as gladiators, right? Right?

THE RISE OF THE EVIL SANCTUM

The Sanctum Sanctorium was completely in disarray as all the doors were forced open and the gateway was in possessed. Steven ran to the main room at the base of the front door, he watches a shadowy figure appear and he takes a strong stance.

He raised his hands as he forms a two handed gesture and begins to cast a protection spell. I laugh as I put palm outward toward and him easily evading his spell and then snapped my fingers. He watched in awe as his whole reality became faded one cgi looking visual to a mere glass appearance.

This was my very own zone, real and creation as I watch the glass break, his mind was in shatters as I slipped in a little at time and I completely broke him the titular super hero.I circled around him as he tries to grab my foot and I respond in kind by kicking him in the face.

I a few more changes an this former Sanctum Sanctorium will be no more and I watch as all of his former allies fall to their knees to fully surrender to me. They grab him as they drag him up the stairs into the sanctum lab and strap him down as the doctor was firmly tied down as I injected him.

“No doubt you have many questions my dear friend Mr. Stranger...sorry I mean Dr. Strange.”I say ignoring his pathetic attempts to escape me. “I am not your friend and I will never give into you.” He barely yells at me. “Now you really should conserve your energy because you won’t survive much longer. I could have mentally inflicted this in you but I wanted to be more humane.” I say.

“You see this syringe has been filled up with mind bending medication Infused with my power and now you will succumb to it or die. Your choice either way one less good two shows in my way and no one to stop me.”I finished as I watched him scream in pain as the heat radiated up his skeleton and spread elsewhere.

His body shook as it all raced to his head as he was knocked out, his eyes closed as his mind was completely rewritten for me and his mind opens completely up my will.“How may I serve you Master?” He asked me. “Doctor Strange you are now infused with my evil powers, you will be enslaved to my will and you will bring every super hero to my way of thinking.” I say. He flies out of kneels before me.

Status? Wondering why Thor: Ragnarok exists.

This just keeps getting worse, and I know there are dozens of fans who will just tell ones like me to ‘grow a spine’ and ‘get a sense of humor’ and ‘this is how normal siblings act; get over it’, but this stuff is just not okay.

Thor is literally breaking Loki’s heart in this latest scene and it is NOT OKAY. He is basically telling Loki they are done. They used to be brothers - he used to care about him - but their ‘paths diverged a long time ago’.

...A long time ago. Four. Years. They have been brothers for over a thousand years, and FOUR years has made Thor just want to stop trying. Four years. In which the first, both of their lives were practically shattered; four years, during which Loki fell off the Bifrost and reappeared suddenly craving a Midgard throne and spouting fanatical ideologies and his family NEVER bothered to ask him WHAT happened to him and WHY he was acting this way; four years in which Loki spent a whole years in prison; four years in which Thor spent two soul searching, after Loki saved both his and Jane’s life, and take the throne from a MAD king who would have executed Thor when he returned (”Failure will mean our deaths; success will mean banishment.” If Odin wasn’t going to kill ‘im, he was going to banish ‘im).

YES. Loki has hurt Thor. But Thor has hurt Loki!!! A thousand years of “Know your place” and “Enough.” and “Some do battle, others just do tricks.” and “Let’s do ‘get help” and “If you keep speaking I just might [want to punch my why out]”. A thousand years of “this is why you have favored Thor all these years” and “Silvertongue turned to lead?” and just being suffocated in a family and culture that vilified and blamed and alienated and mocked him. How many times do we need to see evidence of things like the “get help” plan? Right. Because bodily throwing Loki into a group of enemies is HILARIOUS and something two brothers should be doing. A plan that Loki openly admits he hates and is humiliating to him, and yet he has to do it anyway, because “it’s classic” and it’s not humiliating for Thor. Classic? Yep. Which means they’ve done it dozens of times and probably more things like it. But who cares if it’s humiliating to Loki.

But then we have, “I used to think the world of you Loki.” Oh. My. Gosh.

Look at ^ that face. That is the face of a little brother who also thought the world of his older brother. Who, for a moment, was like, “...You did?” when Thor referenced loving him and acknowledged that bond because LOKI THOUGHT THE WORLD OF THOR TOO or expressions like that would not be happening.

Things have been BROKEN and muddled and messed up. But they’ve known each for over a thousand years!! And Thor is just done, as if Loki’s nature is to blame for them just being ‘done’? As if It’s all Loki, and Thor has had no hand in this? As if it’s just better to give up, instead of deal with the pain and cracks and messiness of their relationship?

‘Cause THAT ^ is totally the face of a man who never wants to see you again, Thor. That is, “I am going to say this but I wish you’d contradict me and say, ‘No! That is never what I wanted’ and STOP ME norns please.”

And then Thor slaps Loki on the back and says, “That is what you always wanted.” like HE would know what Loki wants. Apparently they went separate ways years ago and THOR knows what Loki wants.

This does not even scratch the surface of “Loki! Look who it his.” as Loki is terrified of the Hulk, and Loki falling for thirty minutes in the Sanctum Sanctorium, and Thor pushing Loki into a couch, and other things.

And if you made it to the end and you hate my guts because of this? Please do not send me anything. You do not have to agree. That is your prerogative. You can block me or unfollow or pretend I don’t exist.

I just love Loki too much for this.
