Onmyodo Mini-Session Report: Climbing A Waterfall

Quite a short adventure! (about half an hour?)

Abe no Seimei was doing quite well for himself, gaining a Staff when he traversed through a series of Mountains. Because it was the Higurashi Naku season, he also earned many extra Training Cards when passing through a series of Woods! He soon met a Shugenja (who also carried a Staff). Together they traveled and encountered an Abura Samashi, and managed to defeat the spooky oil-thief yokai with their two Staffs, thus earning 2 Ofuda which Abe carried! The duo then met an old soothsayer, and traveled with him down to the South River. After passing a quaint bridge, they looked up and saw the terrifying DaiTengu atop a giant Mountain.

Thinking it would be easy to battle the Great Tengu as a Shugendo priest was among their party, the three decided to climb up the three-tiered waterfall and confront the beast. Not so easy, as none of the group had enough Grace to manage the climb, and despite an abundance of extra Training Cards, not one of them could help. The old Sennin simply gave up and left the party. Abe tried to climb but did not have enough extra Inyo power to survive the attempt and fell to his death! Only the Shugenja remained, trying to scale the falls. The poor priest was suddenly attacked by a succession of undefeated Yokai from past travels. He fought them back until the DaiTengu itself descended to attack him. Thus the priest was devoured! Well, I guess a lot did happen in 30 minutes...

This beautiful Samashi (shaman's costume) belonged to a young female shaman who died in the late 1920s, aged 25. She was the elder daughter of an Orochen Guzda (chief official), but her name has not been recorded. This costume would have been personal to it's owner and as she gained experience elements would be added. These probably included the tigers embroidered on the detachable collar and the brass mirrors hanging on the front and back of the garment. The mirrors were intended to not only reveal what is hidden, but to also deflect harm. The shaman’s costume was a part of the tools she required to allow her body to become a vessel for possession by ancestral spirits. She would also be expected to be a healer and carry out predictions. The number of points (4) on the antler horns which formed her headdress indicate she was a high status individual within her community (the highest number is 7 points).

That's a bit hard to explain but I'll do my best.

Swap AU is where Macaque and Mei take the place of Wukong and MK. Mei because Macaque's student and does what every hero in training does.

Through a series of events, Sun Wukong, in this AU the main antagonist of the story, gets released and starts to plot how to get revenge on those who trap him while also thinking of ways to manipulate Macaque into getting back with him.

After a few encounters and close calls, it's revealed that MK, a close friend of Mei, is in reality a clone of Wukong and his sole existence was to release the Monkey Tirant. The young teen gets abducted by his "father" and is brought to a remote location until Mei and her friends help him escape, taking with them the golden staff.

Pretty much every season has some similarities with the canon one, but the main changes are:

Spider Queen is only bad for a little while before she discovers that Wukong is the one who attacked her family, not Macaque. She gets rescued by Mei before LBD can take her and forms an alliance with the kid.

LBD is still the main villain for most of it, but only to gain favors from Wukong. The final battle ends with Sun Wukong killing LBD because she had double-crossed him

Mei does not have the Samashi fire. Red is the one with the fourth ring and he didn't know it.

Iron Fan and DBK are the main allies of Macaque and help the heroes often

Season 4 hasn't been introduced yet, but I am working on writing that.

An Idea for the Kiddo Au. No intentional angst but it would be funny if the kids were playing around flower fruit and accidentally found an artifact Wukong forgot to stash. They accidentally trigger it and it cause MK to turn into a demon and activated Mei's dragon genes. Mean while Red Son has brief access to the fires of Samadhi, chaos ensues.

Actually, Red already has the Fire of Samashi and Mei tachnically is a dragon, she's just not mature enough to use any of her powers.

And there is a reason why Wukong never brought the kids on FFM until now, there are some pretty dangerous things stashed in his cave and it's better if children don't go anywhere near them.
