I've been listening to the RWBY soundtrack religiously since I finished my viewing of the show in anticipation and excitement for Volume 9 in like a week. Anyways I kind of want to talk about the song "Hero" specifically just because it's Ironwood's theme but it's just got a lot of interesting layers to it that I think are pretty obvious upon first listen, but more that just kind of blow your mind if you listen to it multiple times.

The first obvious one I wanna point out is how this song goes from being a heroic anthem and rally, to almost a threat towards whoever Ironwood is speaking to. The very first part of the song before it really starts is like your typical melodious "hero" song, something you'd probably here at the dramatic climax of a musical when the hero has shown up and is ready to save the day or whatever.

The first part is also going to be the chorus of the song, and when you first hear it you're like "Oh so this singer dude is the hero and he's here to help whoever it is he's singing to, and he's trying to assure them that he can definitely do his job. Great, typical hero stuff."

But what starts as a comforting gesture, turns into an obsessive mantra throughout the song.

"Take my hand/ I'm here to protect you/ Nothing will stop me/ Understand/ There's no sacrifice that I won't make/ I'll risk it all to keep you safe/ Trust me to be strong/ I'll be your hero/ Just hold on"

throughout volume 7 we slowly see Ironwood descend into an obsessive craze to "protect" Atlas to the point where he goes from wanting to save people, to willing to sacrifice an entire city just to keep Atlas afloat and away from Grimm. In a way, the song is very much just paralleling his character arc in the show.

Though what I noticed about this song is how similar it is to the other "villainous" songs in the OST. Songs like "Sacrifice", "When it Falls", "Divide" etc all have references to war or how fruitless an effort it would be to fight back. In "Hero" , Ironwood goes from saying he will protect people, to trying to reason for why he is the only one who can save anyone.

"I've made my plan/ Hearts and minds may not agree/ Emotions topple strategy/ You can't believe in honesty/ That your children can win a war"

Here is the familiar doubt that is so often cast onto Team RWBY and Team JNR when it comes to beating Salem. Ironwood literally goes from talking like a hero in this song to mimicking the very villain he is opposing.

(it's also worth noting how while Sacrifice isn't at all about Ironwood...it sure does have lyrics that could also apply to his situation which is wild to me considering that song was written all the way back in Volume 2 T_T How deep does this rabbit hole go?)

Battle Theme: Fight Again from the Jujutsu Kaisen OST- Chica

Battle intro: Zek would look at his significant other smiling with his facemask off for now. "Like I said before Hax, this time I'm using live rounds so you'll have to be ready to expect the unexpected. Especially if some of your family members come after you again" He would say putting the facemask on and cocking his rifle.

Victory: Zek would walk over to Hax, helping them onto their feet with a gentle smile on his unmasked face. "Better, but we'll still need to work on some things."

Defeat: Zek chuckles a bit as he gets up and smiles at Hax. "I think now we just need to refine some things and then your family will see that you are the most strongest." He would say to them with a smile.

Assist: "I'm here Hax!!! Providing covering fire!!!"

Taunt: "Hmm? I still think I can easily lift you despite you being seven feet tall... and myself being five feet tall."

Reacting to Taunt: Zeks face would turn red for a moment until he shakes it off.

Flee: "Oh Chyort! I hope that was not Ergis howling!!"

Reaction to Flee: "Huh?! Hax... you do remember I did say Live Rounds right?"

Tie: Zek would sit upwards looking at Hax with the biggest smile ever. "I think your family would not dare to come and mess with you this time and if they do. I'll be there ."

Perfect Victory: Zek would walk up next to Hax and lay down with them looking up at the forest sky, smiling. "I think this is nice..... plus... there are a LOT of things we need to work on. For now..I think this will put an end to our training for the day."

Semblance Activation: "Try and dodge this Hax!!!"

Finishing Move: Zek would immediately look like he is about to use the Reapers Bullet but instead he would quickly give Hax a kiss before pulling away.... "What did you think I was going to use THAT attack."

Battle Theme: Scream from FFXIV: Endwalker- Masayoshi Soken

Battle intro: Zek would wander the forest before looking up at the monstrous Hax, gulping lightly swallowing back his fear. "Hax.... this isnt you! I know you can fight this!!!!" He said pointing his rifle at them while trembling.

Victory: Zek would fall to one knee panting and nearly bloodied. Thankfully alive.... as he limps off knowing while he may have subdued them.... he needed to find Eath......and fast.

Defeat: With a gasp, Zek was against a large oak tree his body slowly going limp as he tried to fire one more shot but failed as he looked up at the split Hax. Tears filling his eyes..... "I'm.... so sorry... Hax..." saying his last before passing away. Death had finally claimed Zek's soul after so so many attempts on his life.

Assist: Zek would remain silent helping this "Hax" before leaping back to the sidelines.

Taunt: "Hax! I know you! You are so much stronger than this!! I would always love you with my heart! You, Taygete, and Eath!!!"

Reacting to Taunt: "Hax.......why would you..... bring up that scar... that memory that had to be burned onto it....... my memory.."

Flee: Upon realizing he was outmatched for the moment he pointed his rifle in the air launching a dust round into the air as it exploded. Hopefully signaling Eath where he was as he started to run as quick as he can.

Reaction to Flee: "Hax! Don't run please!!!!!"

Tie: Zek would fall to the floor panting and trying to catch as much breath as he could before he would go unconscious hoping that Eath could find him soon... knowing he was out of aura...

Perfect Victory: Zek rushed up to the fallen Hax, trying to find some sort of life in them. Instead... there was none, falling to the floor and weeping silently before looking up to the sky and screaming with a loud wail as if he was damning the Gods for taking his joy and happiness away again.

Semblance Activation: "HAX!!!!! I'LL SAVE YOU!!! I PROMISE!!!!!"

Finishing Move: Zek points his rifle at Hax with his hands still trembling as he closed his eyes tightly seeing the many memories of them and him in his mind. Before reopening them seeing the barrel of the rifle covered in energy......

"I'm sorry... Hax."

He said firing the bullet at them.

Though, I did be sure to try other songs in here that were not just 5D’s tracks. A lot of Sonic tracks funny enough I found fitting stuff I’d put on, hence why there is a few here.

Some pop songs that fit his vibe were also included, along with the angsty RWBY vol 8 op. And Everything Stays embodies a lot about Yusei’s character, how things do indeed change but also stay the same. I

adore the acoustic version of i may fall

divide, fear, war, and hero are bops; the sky is falling has really grown on me since the v8 ost dropped. i like until the end and path to isolation a lot. also this feels like kind of an odd pull but like morning follows night is one i loop a lot ghsdkfh

that said for every life is the Best Song on the grounds of giving me a glimmer of the Rot Imagery i crave and deserve

Trying to listen to the RWBY soundtrack again to cheer myself up after this episode, but all the lyrics are like:
