Solar Waltz - Cosmo Sheldrake

I’m not sure what it is, but this feels like a very William-esque song to me. The waltz form has a certain poise in the same way that William does, and the lyrics’ themes - though I don't know him very well yet - in my mind, suit him.

Harrison

Green - Kera & The Lesbians

This one is more based on genre / vibe than lyrics, but they still fit. Harrison feels like he exudes this kind of moderate-tempo, mostly relaxed energy that this song also has.

Liam

Curses - The Crane Wives

Liam’s a bit playful and always presents in a positive manner, despite how dark his internal world is. I see a lot of him and his behaviour in both the instrumentals and in the lyrics of this song.

Elbert

Cement - Nicole Dollanganger

This song feels a bit lonely, and the lyrics focus on the preservation of things a person loves and finds beautiful (even to their detriment), which from what I understand about Elbert… fits him to a T.

Alfons

Bourbon Street - Jeff Tuohy

Alfons is quite the hedonist, and this song certainly reflects that. It also is rather relaxed in tempo, while still having a drive behind it - much like Alfons himself.

Roger

Schism - TOOL

I can’t think of many genres that would suit Roger better than rock. And this specific song just feels like him. Especially considering the (slight) division that there seems to be between Roger and the other members of Crown…

Jude

Follow Me - Odd Chap, J Fitz

When I see Jude, I immediately think ‘electro-swing’. I just think it matches his energy well! I had a feeling that the lyrics to this one also work well with Jude, though I also am the shakiest on his character, so it may not be the best pick for him.

Ellis

All I Do Is Dream Of You - Faultline, dodie

I’m also a little uncertain of Ellis’ character, but this song has a similar gentleness and… thoughtfulness(?) that Ellis appears to show as well.

Victor

Villainous Thing - Schayfer James

This song could honestly describe the entirety of Ikémen Villains as a game, but seems especially applicable to Victor. It has a surprisingly fun tone, while beckoning you into the darkness at the same time.

Harry actually owns a watermelon farm in a secret location that we can’t disclose. So the day before the shoot we went with our whole crew, make-up artists, set decorators, focus pullers you name it! 1: Saw X (possibly the objectively Greatest Saw movie. Tobin Bell is fascinating to watch bring humanity to this murderer, Shawnee Smith is so beloved and I LOVE the kills in this one. Top teir)

2: Saw 2004 (Classic, what's to be said that hasn't already been said. Carey Elwes does a rly bad American accent, Shawnee Smith makes Amanda the single most iconic woman in fiction just by sitting there. This movie caused me a lot of distress as a child and that fascinated me so thoroughly that I think it may have been a defining moment of my horror fanatasism despite not watching the full film till a decade later. I could go on.)

3: Saw 6 (I don't know if this is controversial or not, but Saw 6 is genuinely a high point of the series to me. I love watching William Eastons trap plot, which is not something I can say for most other Saw films. And that fucking ending man! Saw 6 is very personal to me in that I too would love to stab the man who killed my father with hydrochloric acid filled needles and watch him melt from the outside. Very fun scenes with John, Hoffman getting his mouth ripped open is hot, etc etc)

4: Saw 3 ( only reason this isn't 3 Is because Jeff makes me chew through pencils I hate this guy. People are NOT JOKING ABOUT THE YURI. ITS ACTUALLY REAL. I love love lOVED Amanda in this movie, I don't think I blinked the entire time, I love seeing everything crash down around her and John until there's nothing left but blood and bones and flesh, and not a single soul went to heaven that night, etc etc.)

5: Saw 4 (I don't know why but I love saw 4 actually, I think Hoffman, strahm, Perez and Rigg were all rly fun to watch. I love the spy x spy ass soap opera plot. I LOVED seeing Eric Matthews head get exploded between two ice blocks. FUCK YES. Again this trap plot I actually really dig which helps with the watchability of the thing, plus Hoffman hot who said that)

6: Saw 2 (I know this is insane I know I wish I liked this movie more but the only good thing is setting up Amanda as jigsaws successor, some nice time with John kramer being a cunty old man, and also establishing I hate Donnie whalbergs stupid fucking face. Don't at me.)

7: Saw 5 (I literally don't remember what happened in saw v. I had to look it up. It's honestly not the worst, Hoffman and Strahm are pretty enjoyable once again, but it's completely unremarkable, I don't have anything to say Abt this movie.)

8: Jigsaw (Trap plot makes me want to rip my own eyes out. "Plot twist" is dumb and falls apart. Fucking. Jigsaws Nephew. Whatever man.)

9: Saw 3d (Probably one of the worst actual movies I've seen. I love Larry coming back don't get me wrong, he's very cunty, you know. But they literally barely use him till the end, which is a mistake. The fucking Bobby Dagan plot could've been interesting but it wasn't due to him being not at all helpful and the end is genuinely maddening. Also I HATE THE HOME DEPOT TRAP GRRR GRR DO YOU JESR ME GRRGRE)

Spiral- I have not seen spiral.

personality: take me to war - the crane wives. they've always been a firecracker, picking fights they probably shouldn't - even if they have good reason to.

angst: hard sell by the crane wives (YES again. what about it.) as a sapling they really struggled to make themselves a better person, to not lose themselves to rage and bitterness. some days, they're still fighting it.

comfort: community gardens by the scary jokes. i just think it sounds cute.

love life: unraveling by the crane wives (im SORRY their songs are all BANGERS leave me alone) and i need a woman to love by kesha. they fall in love often and easily, but it rarely works in their favor..... yet despite the heartbreak they still crave it.

RWBY Volume 9 soundtrack song ranks

So I finally feel like I've put enough listens in to properly rank the songs on the Volume 9 soundtrack. Took a bit of extra time, not because I couldn't listen to it but because I found my initial impressions crumbling on repeat listens and therefore felt I needed more time to see where things shook out. This is just the original songs so no score tracks or the lofi wings.

Chatterbox - I can't stop talking about how awesome this song is, just such wonderfully sinister first verse and the pre-chorus kicks things up wonderfully setting the up the catchy as hell chorus. Martin's Guitar work is also great and evocative. All that being said it did just barely edge out.

Trapdoor - The funky little electronic lead in is so good and the may the chorus bounces along so wonderfully disguise how absolutely devastating emotionally this song is. This is really driven home by the outro which also brings some of the electronic vibes back after the rock centric middle. Just so easy to fall down the rabbit hole listening to this one.

Inside - Another banger of any opening and the fact it's only #3 is just a testament to how much I love the top 2. Really a great idea for what Casey and Martin have in store, it still sounds RWBY but has some of the prog elements from OK Goodnight (Casey's current band and Martins former bands) which I honestly think help give this volume it's own vibe musically and takes you into it's heart.

Checkmate - Love the jazzy feel of this song, the horn elements (courtesy of Zac Zinger) are great and Casey's vocals and the rhythm of the song have such a fun feeling that it's game set match.

Worthy - I'll be honest first couple listens the vocal elements acting as music over the top of the sung parts was not working for me, but slowly they gained foothold and the wonderful emotions took over so guess in the end the song was like it's title. I also think Ariyel was great, her parts gave me a Christina Perri vibe and I really like the interplay between her and Casey.

Guide My Way - I mean this song is really good a bit slow to start but the moment the melody of Red Like Roses Kicks in the song takes it to another gear, plus the "I'm what inspired the fairy tale line", really helps lead you along in the song. Note this is #6 not because it's not a banger but because of how god damned amazing this album is.

The Edge - A solid ending track it's laid back vibe at the beginning and soaring to the ending is very fitting vibe fore album but it can't edge out the tunes prior to it.

Quiet - I did the clock theme and it ticks off some boxes but it's easily the least interesting track on the album to me, again not bad just not necessarily my jam, just doesn't quiet do it for me.

Well if we can #greenlightvolume10 I sure hope Casey and Martin get to keep making the music because they knocked it out of the park. No shot at Jeff Williams but I love the new influences that they brought in, again it still sounds fitting to RWBY but with a new energy.
