Rare Tropical Timor Black Bamboo Tree seeds B10 Seeds of the rare and exotic Black Bamboo to Plant and Grow Visually interesting, canes turn green to black during the growing season. The hardiest of all black bamboo species. Slower to expand with minimal control efforts needed. Count: ~10 Scientific Name: Phyllostachys Nigra 'Black' Plant Name: Bambusa Lako Cold Hardy To 30 F Common Name: Timor Black Bamboo Plant Height: 60 Feet Plant Spread: 6 Feet Soil Moisture: Constantly moist Sunlight: hot overhead sun to dappled light Design: Suits contemporary, oriental & tropical designs Garden Type: clumping bamboo Plant Seasonality: Evergreen Phyllostachys nigra, commonly known as black bamboo, is a species of bamboo, native to Hunan Province of China, and is widely cultivated elsewhere. Growing up to 25 m tall by 30 cm broad, it forms clumps of slender arching canes which turn black after two or three seasons Black bamboo is a striking and exotic choice for your garden or landscaping project. Known as the diet of choice for panda bears, bamboo is part of the Poaceae family—making it a grass, despite its height and tree-like stability. Phyllostachys nigra, commonly referred to as black bamboo, is famous for its ebony-colored stalks, or culms. It is a running bamboo, which means it spreads and grows rapidly through underground rhizomes. This can cause black bamboo to be very invasive if not controlled. FAST GROWING: The fastest-growing Bamboo, get privacy or windbreak fast! GROW TIPS: Run your sink hot water and get it as warm as possible. Fill a cup halfway up. Place the seeds in the hot water and then let them soak for 24 hours. Planting Instructions: Boil a cup of water and then let it cool to room temperature. Take a Ziploc bag and fold a paper towel to fit in the bottom. Take your water and add it to your ziploc bag on the paper towel. Just enough water to get the paper towel good and wet. Put 10-15 seeds in there and blow up the bag and seal it Just leave them in there until they sprout. You can just set the bag on top the refrigerator. After they sprout, once a week blow fresh air into the bag and reseal it. When they are about 2-3 inches tall their roots will be growing into the paper towel. Don't pull the plant and roots out of the paper towel; you will want to cut the paper towel so the roots stay in the paper towel. Transplant into vermiculite and peat moss mix with the roots still in the paper towel. How to Care for Black Bamboo Plants Running bamboo types, such as black bamboo plants, are ideal for creating a dense hedge or privacy screen. Your plants should be placed 3 to 5 feet (1-1.5 m.) apart for this purpose. However, you will probably only want to consider growing black bamboo if you have a very sizable area for it spread out. There are many strategies you could employ to contain the size of a bamboo grove, such as root pruning or even a root barrier. If you’re opting for a root barrier, install the barrier at least 36 inches (91 cm.) deep between the bamboo grove and the rest of your property using materials in the trench that are impenetrable, such as rolls of fiberglass or 60 mil polypropylene. The barrier itself should protrude 2 inches (5 cm.) above the ground to discourage any wayward rhizomes. If all of this seems too daunting or if you have minimal garden space, then remember this black bamboo information: black bamboo, like other types, can also be enjoyed as a container plant. Like anything that stands out with beauty and uniqueness, this bamboo does not come without a few "torns". Black bamboo can be a tad more on the needy side when it comes to location and attention needed; it requires at least 6 hours of sunlight a day, is not an option for indoor planting, it does not tolerate wind well, and the foliage has been damaged at temperatures below 10° Fahrenheit. If a dry wind is present, plant in a protected area. Foliage loss occurs at 0° to -5° with a complete top kill of canes at around -10° to -15°. Due to this, we recommend this species for USDA Climate Zones 7 and 8. It is being grown in climate zone 6 with moderate top damage during the harsh winter months. The culms are not as erect in shaded sides as some other species and tend to weep or arch over; Pruning can correct this behavior. Those who grow ‘Black Bamboo’ in western gardens love its graceful habits. The sharp contrast of color provided by the dark culms and green foliage is very desirable. New canes emerge green and turn ebony black within two years with sunlight exposure. This is reported to be the only species the culm turns true ebony in color. The culm sheath has wavy blades with prominent oral setae, auricles, and ligules. The wood is of high quality and used by many craftsmen. This bamboo species is a gregarious flowering bamboo, which means that every black bamboo plant around the world will bloom around the same time. This only happens every 40 to 60 years, and that generation of bamboo dies shortly after. The seeds can be collected and planted to start a new stand of bamboo growth. Fertilizer To promote healthy growth, you might choose to fertilize black bamboo for a boost of additional nutrients. Choose a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen for the best results; this type of fertilizer is typically best for grasses. Apply fertilizer in the late spring and again in the middle of the growing season. Harvesting Bamboo shoots make an interesting and fun addition to vegetable stir-fries and are often used in Asian cuisine. To harvest the young sprouts, wait until they are a few inches tall. Try to harvest while they are 6 inches or less for the best flavor. Using a sharp knife, cut the shoot at ground level. Be sure to harvest plants sustainably and responsibly, making sure not to strip the plant of all of its new growth. When you are ready to prepare your harvest, cut the shoots in half length-wise and remove the hard outer sheath. Then, cut them to the desired thickness and boil or fry them. Pruning Bamboo is known to be a fast-growing plant, which adds to its appeal as a natural privacy barrier. However, to keep the height of your bamboo in check, you should plan to occasionally prune the plant to your desired height. Pruning bamboo to control growth should be done in the spring. The nodes of the plant provide an easy visual cue on where to cut back the height of each stalk. Cut each stalk just above a node. In addition, curb unwanted growth of in-ground black bamboo plants by cutting new shoots that sprout from the rhizomes to ground level. Keep in mind that this will check the growth of this plant, but it is a prolific spreader once planted directly in the ground and you may not be able to control its growth simply by cutting back new growth. Propagating Black Bamboo Propagating bamboo is simple and best done by division. It is ideal to divide bamboo plants in the late winter or early spring. Water the bamboo well the day before you plan to divide it. Before dividing, cut off the top 2/3 of the culm. Using a sharp spade, dig up the section you would like to divide. You may need a saw to cut through the thick roots. From here, you can keep the clump large or divide it into smaller sections of 3 or 4 culms each. Plant each section in a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Mix in compost or other fertilizer and fill in the area. Water thoroughly. Potting and Repotting Black Bamboo Black bamboo can easily be grown in containers, which is a perfect choice for those with smaller yards or who want to keep it inside. When choosing a container, try to find one that is short, wide, and bottom-heavy. Adding rocks to the bottom of the container can help with this. Because bamboo grows to be so tall, a lighter, taller pot can easily get blown over. Since black bamboo is a running bamboo and a rapid grower, it may outgrow its pot quicker than other species. You will need to repot once your bamboo is root-bound. Potted bamboo will need more water than plants in the ground, so be sure to keep tabs on your soil moisture. Place your pot in a sunny, wind-sheltered area and enjoy it's striking looks and green foliage. WARNING Black bamboo uses runners to propagate, rather than forming clumps like many other grass varieties. As a result, its growth is considered fast and aggressive. The underground rhizomes easily lead to this plant popping up in unexpected places around your garden and yard. Eradicating it requires removing every piece of rhizome, which can prove to be a real challenge if left unchecked. Chemically sterilized...or mechanically sterilized?
It is clear that applying chemicals to your yard and landscape, be it fertilizers, weed killers, or pesticides, has devastating effects to the community of life that is present in every place.
But is the terrifying decline in insects explainable by chemicals alone?
When i am in mowed environments, even those that I know have no lawn chemicals, they are almost entirely empty of life. There are a few bees and other insects on the dandelions, but not many, and the only birds I see are American robins, Grackles, and European starlings.
Even without any weed killers at all, regular mowing of a lawn type area eliminates all but a few specially adapted weeds.
The plants of a lawn where I live include: Mouse ear chickweed, Birds-eye Speedwell, Common blue violet, Dandelion, Wild Garlic, Creeping charlie, White Clover, Black Medick, Broad-leaved plantain, Mock Strawberry, Crabgrass, Small-flowered Buttercup, Ribwort Plantain, Daisy Fleabane, a few common sedges, Red Deadnettle...That sounds like a lot of plants, but the problem is, almost all of them are non-native species (Only Violets, Daisy Fleabane, and the sedges are native!) and it's. The Same. Species. Everywhere. In. Every. Place.
How come...? Because mowed turf is a really specific environment that is really specifically beneficial to a number of almost entirely European plants, and presents stressors that most plants (including almost all native north american plants) simply can't cope with.
The plants mentioned above are just the flowering weeds. The grasses themselves, the dominant component of the lawn, are essentially 100% invasive in North America, many of them virulently and destructively invasive.
Can you believe that Kentucky bluegrass isn't even native to Kentucky? Nope, it's European! The rich pasture of the Bluegrass region of Kentucky was predominantly a mix of clover, other legumes, and bamboo. The clovers—Kentucky clover, Running buffalo clover, and buffalo clover—are highly endangered now (hell, kentucky clover wasn't even DISCOVERED until 2013) and the bamboo—Giant rivercane, Arundinaria gigantea—has declined in its extent by 98%. Do European white and red clovers fulfill the niches that native clovers once did? Dunno, probably not entirely.
One of the biggest troubles with "going native" is that North America legitimately does not have native grass species that really fill the niche of lawn. Most small, underfoot grassy plants are sedges and they are made for shady environments, and they form tufts and fancy sprays, not creeping turf. Then there's prairie grasses which are 10 feet tall.
What this means, though, is that lawns don't even remotely resemble environments that our insects and birds evolved for. Forget invasive species, lawns are an invasive BIOME.
It's a terrible thing, then, that this is just what we do to whatever random land we don't cover in concrete: back yards, road margins, land outside of churches and businesses, spaces at the edges of fields, verges at bypasses and gas stations...
Mowing, in the north american biomes, selects for invasive species and promotes them while eliminating native species. There's no nice way to put it. The species that thrive under this treatment are invasive.
And unfortunately mowing is basically the only well-known and popular tool even for managing meadow and prairie type "natural" environments. If you want to prevent it from succeeding to forest, just mow it every couple of years.
This has awful results, because invasive species like Festuca arundinacea (a plant invented by actual Satan) love it and are promoted, and the native species are harmed.
Festuca arundinacea, aka Tall Fescue, btw is the main grass that you'll find in cheap seed mixes in Kentucky, but it's a horrific invasive species that chokes everything and keeps killing my native meadow plants. It has leaves like razor blades (it's cut me so deeply that it scarred) and has an endosymbiont in it that makes horses that eat it miscarry their foals.
And this stuff is ALL OVER the "prairie" areas where I work, like it's the most dominant plant by far, because it thrives on being mowed while the poor milkweeds, Rattlesnake Master and big bluestems slowly decline and suffer.
It's wild how hard it is to explain that mowing is a very specific type of stressor that many plants will respond very very negatively to. North American plants did not evolve under pressures that involved being squished, crushed, snipped to 8 inches tall uniformly and covered in a suffocating blanket of shredded plant matter. That is actually extremely bad for many of the prairie plants that are vital keystone species. Furthermore it does not control invasive species but rather promotes them.
Native insects need native plant cover. Many of them co-evolved intimately with particular host plants. Many others evolved to eat those guys. And Lord don't get me started on leaf removal, AKA the greatest folly of all humankind.
So wherever there is a mowed environment, regardless of the use of chemicals or not, the bugs don't have the structural or physical habitat characteristics they evolved for and they don't have the plant species they evolved to be dependent on.
Now let's think about three-dimensional space.
This post was inspired when I saw several red winged blackbirds in the unmowed part of a field perching on old stems of Ironweed and goldenrod. The red-winged blackbirds congregated in the unmowed part of the field, but the mowed part was empty. The space in a habitat is not just the area of the land viewed from above as though on a map. Imagine a forest, think of all the squirrels and birds nesting and sitting on branches and mosses and lichens covering the trunks and logs. The trees extend the habitat space into 3 dimensions.
Any type of plant cover is the same. A meadow where the plants grow to 3 feet tall, compared with a lawn of 6 inches tall, not only increases the quality of the habitat, it really multiplies the total available space in the habitat, because there is such a great area of stems and leaves for bugs and birds to be on. A little dandelion might form a cute little corner store for bugs, A six foot tall goldenrod? That's a bug skyscraper! It fits way more bugs.
It's not just the plants themselves, it's the fallen leaves that get trapped underneath them—tall meadow plants seem to gather and hoard fallen leaves underneath. More tall plants is also more total biomass, which is the foundation of the whole food chain!
Now consider light and shade. Even a meadow of 3ft tall plants actually shades the ground. Mosses grow enthusiastically even forming thick mats where none at all could grow in the mowed portions. And consider also amphibians. They are very sensitive to UV light, so even a frog that lives in what you see as a more "open" environment, can be protected by some tall flowers and rushes but unable to survive in mowed back yard

Animal of the Day!
Asiatic Brush-tailed Porcupine (Atherurus macrourus)
Tumblr media
(Photo in public domain)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Southern Asia
Size (Weight/Length)- 80 cm
Diet- Leaves; Bark; Fruits; Flowers; Roots; Nuts; Seeds
Cool Facts- The Asiatic brush-tailed porcupine loves the tropics, sticking to bamboo and palm forests. They find themselves at home in thick underbrush where burrows keep them safe. Multiple Asiatic brush-tailed porcupines can end up living in the same burrow system, working together to defend their home from predators. They are generally nocturnal and spend only a few hours each night outside of their burrow. When encountering a predator, these porcupines can run as fast backwards as they can forwards. This results in a leopard or human being embedded with hundreds of quills.
Rating- 12/10 (The rarest porcupines of South Asia.)

⚠️merji/cultivator Wei WuXian
"Come on, Wei-Xiong, the old man will end up hitting us again!"
Wei WuXian chuckled as he jumped onto the boat, "So what? I'm always the one getting beat up, so don't worry."
"Last time we got it too. Let's take what we can and leave."
Wei WuXian broke the leaves and threw the seeds into his mouth, carefree, "Don't be like that, Shidi. Come here, I'll give you some of mine."
The Jiang Clan's young cultivators sat on the boat, eventually relaxing because of Wei WuXian. Still others were picking lotus and cooling off in the water, struggling to survive that hot day.
They laughed and shared seeds, saving some for later, until one of the youngest disciples jumped into the boat as if fleeing death.
"The old man is here!"
With those words, the others started jumping into the boat like hungry ghouls or being pulled along by their mates. From afar, the old man approached already cursing the future generation of each one of them.
"Let's run, let's run!"
The old man traveled with speed counting the pods that were left. He held a bamboo stick, which was better than the paddle, even though it made every crack against the flesh.
Underneath the old owner's boat, a shadow accompanied him and that was probably why he was fast and stable, more than the juniors' boat from YunmengJiang.
That was the ghoul he fed to catch them and who wouldn't let any cultivator touch him or get a lash.
Wei WuXian shuddered at the memory.
They started to make their way back, paddling hurriedly to run away from him, when a loud thud on the boat Wei WuXian was on happened and caught the attention of the old man passing by, less swift.
"What are you all doing?!"
The juniors didn't even bother to look back, paddling as if their lives depended on it. But the boat with the old man got faster and caught up with them quickly.
Wei WuXian thought indignantly, 'That ghoul ratted us out! What a brat!'
The owner's boat approached Wei WuXian's side, and when he saw the bamboo coming towards his back out of the corner of his eyes, he closed his eyes waiting for the sting of the bamboo against his flesh.
Did not happen. Instead, his boat surged forward even faster than the old man's boat and threw everyone back, even those who were rowing.
The other boats stayed behind, only theirs managed to escape the wrath of that man and his ghoul.
Arriving at Pier Lotus, they looked at each other in confusion.
"What happened?"
"Something took our boat back!"
"And the others?"
Jiang Cheng, "Who cares? We are here and escaped."
Wei WuXian, "We'd better go back to help."
Jiang Cheng, "Do you want to get hit more? And what do you did to get us out of there?"
Wei WuXian, "Anything."
"Wei-Xiong! Look, there's something at the bottom!"
All of the juniors approached the edge, especially Wei WuXian, who could see a long silvery white tail at the bottom, snaking its way out into the darkness.
"What was this?"
"Could it be that it was some spirit that had compassion on us"
"He only acted when Wei-Xiong was get a whipping from the old man.", one of them laughed out loud.
Wei WuXian felt smug, "It must have been the spirit of a beautiful maiden who fell in love with me."
Jiang Cheng, "You don't get tired of talking nonsense, do you?"
Wei WuXian, "Hahahahaha..."
Nearby, Lan WangJi could hear the laugh that had made his heart flutter nervously ever since he first heard it.
He couldn't help but mutter a 'ridiculous' at hearing about being a maiden. That human was ridiculous and undisciplined, yet he was handsome and Intelligent. Not to mention that he always helped those in need around town.
Not that Lan WangJi chased after him, he didn't need that to hear about Wei WuXian.
Another thing about that human was that he had many scars and was constantly beaten by others and by the others without anyone thanking him or caring.
Lan WangJi would later punish himself for interfering with a deserved punishment, but he would not regret it.
Deep down, he wanted to protect that laugh.
Ears red with embarrassment, Lan WangJi sank down and returned to the place he was now.
He promised himself that he would only return to GusuLan when Wei WuXian agreed to go with him.

Here have some fluffy Jon/Damian/Elle (Super Serious Chaos? Super Serious Chaos) where Jon & Elle bully exhausted pre-vet college student Damian into taking a nap with the cruel application of cuddles on the couch:
Jon’s hand was wide and warm against his back as the Kryptonian absently swiped it along Damian’s spine. Meanwhile Elle was intent on gently dragging her nails along Damian’s scalp, fingers soft through his hair. Between the two of them, the soft couch they’d bullied him into getting when they moved into the apartment and the slant of sunlight they were currently all laying in, Damian didn’t have a chance.
He was supposed to be studying. He had an exam next week for his zoology course and it didn’t matter if he knew the information front to back, he was going to get a perfect grade. But then Jon had splayed out on their plush and over-sized couch with some documentary about scientists attempting to grow seeds discovered preserved in permafrost. And Elle had been pestering him about shrimp posture at his desk - he had perfect posture, thank you he was just making sure to get close enough to his study material, his back hurt because he had patrol last night, nothing else - so he’d allowed her to herd him over to study in the living room instead.
And it was a law of the universe that a Kryptonian wearing soft fleece Robin-themed pajamas basking in the sun was always going to be the most comfortable place for a Bat to perch. So he’d sat down beside his boyfriend - no he had not flopped, he’d simply allowed gravity to do the work for him, it was energy conservation, it was practical - and prepared to study as Elle took her own spot curled up sideways in Jon’s lap with her legs tossed over Damian’s. Sun-sleepy Kryptonian’s were an ideal landing place for ghosts with fire cores as well, obviously.
Somewhere along the line his significant others had conspired against him.
It was the only explanation for how his notes ended up tossed on the coffee table haphazardly while he laid face down across the couch in a nest of pillows with his head in Elle’s lap and Jon’s arm curling over his back, eyes drooping as he lost the battle with sleep. Titus, the traitor, had hopped up to lay against his legs, a heavy warm weight drawing him further and further down. Elle had started humming a song somewhere along the time she’d begun playing with his hair, and Jon was giving those low - near imperceptible - rumbling purrs he gave off when content as he traced patterns along Damian’s back.
This was pay back for staying out until five last night on patrol even though he had a class at seven-thirty. He’d told them he would be fine, he’d done far worse on far less sleep. Timothy routinely juggled a dozen or so projects at a time with just an hour or so of sleep ever few days and Damian was far more competent than him. That argument - for all his grumbled weak protests in the face of Jon and Elle’s unimpressed and worried expressions could be called an argument - had apparently not swayed them though. He was fairly certain Jon had texted the family group chat - Damian’s phone had been confiscated upon stumbling returning home from Gotham U on the grounds that he would end up running off to try and join in on one of the cases one of his siblings mentioned if he was allowed to keep it, again - to ban him from patrols for the rest of the week.
He’d have to get his revenge somehow. He couldn’t just let them run roughshod all over his life like that.
Maybe he could make some sù yā for dinner. Elle had picked up fresh bamboo shoots along with some other stuff on her last portal hop when she’d found herself in Guangzhou. And Jon’s grandparents had passed along some carrots and ginger from the farm that they needed to use.
Last time he’d made the dish Jon had almost cried and Elle had glowed so brightly it had looked like the sun had taken up residence in their dining room. The two had nearly set the apartment on fire fighting over the last piece. Their shrieks of despair when they realized Damian had eaten it while they were tussling had been more satisfying than every victory over every enemy he’d ever faced combined.
Yes. A fine vengeance indeed.
But…later. After he’d lulled them into a false sense of security. Let them think they had the upper hand and strike when they least expected it. It wasn’t that he was falling asleep. No. It was tactical. And had nothing at all to do with the surge of affection and warmth and security that came with having them so close, doting on him. He was tactically allowing himself to appear vulnerable. Nuzzling closer and tightening his hold on them where he’d wrapped his arms around the two was a ruse.
Jon squeezed back, tight enough to press the air out of Damian’s lungs and sooth away some of the latent anxiety over his upcoming test. Elle swiped a lock of hair that’d fallen into his eyes away, palm curling around his cheek and thumb softly stroking along his temple. On the TV scientists droned on about soil composition and growth rates of similar modern plants. Titus gave one of those low grumbling whines that meant he’d fallen asleep where he was curled up against Damian’s legs and was happily dreaming.
Damian allowed his eyes to close. Content to drift to sleep in the arms of the two menaces he loved most in the world.

The European woodlands are a series of mostly bamboo forests in Central, Western, Southern and Northeastern Europe.
Tumblr media
These bamboo species have developed fleshier fruits and more robust branches, in order to support macaque descendants and the bigger parrots that inhabit their canopies and disperse their seeds.
The bigger herbivores of these forests are the Elepharrhinids, usually smaller and furrier than their grassland counterparts, and the biggest of the running hares, that browse on the lower canopy and battle for mates with their four facial horns.
Other than macaques and parrots, some of the canopy’s most common herbivores are the Sciuromiridae, red squirrel descendants that reached the size of modern New World Monkeys. They aren’t as social, don’t have the same good eyesight, and are still more relying on hearing and smelling, still more similar to lemurs and early primates than to simiiforms.
They’re preyed upon by arboreal mustelids descended from martens, smaller cats, eagle sized kestrel descendants and scavenging kites.
Tumblr media
The apex predator of these forests is the Fellimus cambiulus, a close relative to the grasslands’ Fellimus alexandrae, its bigger relative. It hunts the biggest forest herbivores, macaque and squirrel descendants, smaller carnivores and birds. It’s range extends to most of Europe, except for islands, the Fennoscandian peninsula, northern Russia and the tallest mountains, and into Asia, up to the eastern coast of the Caspian sea. Canids became pretty abundant predators too, with pack hunting golden jackals descendants being pretty widespread across the continent, and being capable of taking down prey much larger than themselves.
Tumblr media
Many forests rise along the courses of rivers, which are too home to rich and diverse ecosystems. Many of the freshwater fish species diversified into various forms, like big predatory trouts and catfish, and paddlefish sturgeons. Semiaquatic vertebrates diversified too, with the invasive nutrias becoming bigger, and reaching the size of really large boars, and in some species becoming bigger than hippos.
Vermins became as big as otters, and aquatic birds diversified too, with Cetti’s warbler descendants establishing a family of stork like waders, the Ciconicettidae.
With the warmer climate crocodiles expanded into Europe, although they’re still limited by latitudes, and stop around Southern France, the Carpathians and the Alps.

J2 Jaxcon Main Panel 2023
Usually, before they go on stage the boys do a fist bump but they didn't get to do it this time because they were running behind so they weren't walking in together so they do their fist bump on stage instead. I love that Jared was all before we do anything else we have to do this about it, it's their little tradition 💕
Jensen asks if Jared has a joke, he kind of does: what do rednecks do on Halloween? He doesn't say the punchline because it is an inappropriate joke, but he does blame Jensen for telling it to him years ago 😂
Jensen does end up saying the punchline later on, and for anyone curious the full joke is: what do rednecks do on Halloween? Pump kin.
Jensen also tells a joke: what tree's favorite holiday is Halloween? Bamboo. Jared told another dad joke: what did the arithmetic seed say when it grew up? Gee, I'm a tree.
And then Jensen confessed that he actually got this joke from a whiteboard that's backstage in the hallway and it's so cute cause when he admitted this, Jared said he had seen it but he wasn't going to sell out his boy. And this is actually why Jensen had asked Jared if he had any jokes because he thought Jared had seen it and was going to say it but Jared says it was stupid 😂
Getting into the questions:
What is their favorite childhood memory?
Jared says it’s difficult to pick a specific one but he had a great time playing outside. When he grew up it was before iPhones, iPads, and all that stuff- he quips that when Jensen grew up it was before cars 😂
He thinks he was trying to figure out all that was going on in his head because they didn’t have the welcomed distractions of social media. He will say this because his sons were in a similar situation around 2 weeks prior, there were about 5 or 6 school friends he had in his neighborhood and they were allowed to TP each other’s houses. Their parents knew and they’d have to clean it the next day but the excitement of it- so, he jokes, his fav childhood memory was a life of crime. But seriously getting outside.
Jensen has many but he’ll choose one; there was a rollercoaster in Six Flags Texas that was called The Shockwave it had two loops and he was too short for the ride, and his brother who was older and had been able to get on it for a couple years was always making fun of him for being too short to get on it but when he was six, he was finally able to get on, and he remembers being so excited that he walked up, got there and when he realized he was tall enough to ride he was like 'oh no' cause he could hear the screams. So he’ll never forget that first ride, and he can almost still taste the adrenaline of when he was a kid. x
What is their favorite, or go to, fake curse word?
Jensen's is shiitake mushrooms.
Jared’s a fudge guy. The one that starts with an F is the one he probably says most often, and G doesn’t love it when he says it in front of the kids. x
Besides the ‘67 Impala what is their dream car?
Jared says the first car that he bought was a '69 Camaro, and that Jensen teases him because he has been saying for as long as they've known each other that the car is getting restored. But Jensen says he has never seen proof of life so he doesn't believe him.
Jared’s favorite vehicle on the planet is a C2 Corvette Convertible so '63 to '67 probably '67 and probably with a 327. The 427 dips the front a little bit because it was heavy.
Jensen says many, many years ago, probably early 2000’s, he had a 1973 Ford Bronco. He says it was so fun, that he took it places he probably shouldn't have- he used to drive it through the LA River. He ended up selling it after a few years because he was always working so he barely got to use it and he loved that car so much that it actually made him feel bad that it wasn't getting used. He ended up selling it to a sound guy who lived in Venice Beach, and he's always regretted it. So he’s now building one! He found a 1969 body so he's currently restoring it and should have it soon. x
How do they not get caught up in the fame?
They joke they have wives who remind them hourly.
Jared would honestly say, that for him and Jensen it never occurred to them. It was kind of a blessing and a curse that the show was in Van cause it's not like they were going to a red carpet every night or a hot new club you’re invited to cause you’re on tv, you go to work and then go home and then go to work the next day so he feels whatever degree of fame he has was on accident. The first show he did back in 2003-2005 there was no tivo or Netflix, nobody knew who the hell he was for like 3 or 4 years so for him he just kept working and had a 24 year overnight success.
Jensen says it’s not what he thinks most people view it to be with him and Jared. They don’t rely on what fame they have got over the past 25yrs they just live normal lives and occasionally someone will come up and recognize them or it might be easier to get a dinner reservation, so there are a few things that they do notice. He adds that he and D rarely make reservations, they just kinda drop in cause they don’t know what the plan is but D’s favorite line is to tell him to go out and use his face.
Jared jokes he’ll call and make reservations under Jensen’s name.
Jensen shares a story about how his face or whatever little fame he had didn’t work so much so that he found it to be a bit of a conspiracy. There's this restaurant in Van called Blue Water and they wouldn't let him in. He'd walk in, the place would be empty, and when he'd ask if there was room for two he'd be told no. So he'd tell Jared, and Jared would walk in, be in there for half a second, and then turn around and tell Jensen they had room that they were gonna sit them. And this happened like 4 times.
So, he says they don’t live a life that he thinks most people think famous people live.
Jared says he thinks their fame happened as a byproduct of their love for stories, and over the years there were offers to go do movies but they loved their character so he thinks their degree of fame happened as a byproduct; it wasn't something to get famous there were things they could have done to get more famous but it’s more important for him to be attending cons than 20 Oscars. x
Which is their favorite part of the Impala renovations?
Jensen answers air conditioning. Nothing worked in that car, it was a picture car it was just for show. It took like 8 seasons of them begging for the car to sound like it should for them to do something about it but they did nothing else, he thinks it was held together with duct tape and hope. Now they have been lovingly put together and made road worthy but he said not to change anything aesthetically he wanted it to look and feel the same but it’s much more reliable now.
Jared mentions the time Jensen did donuts on set, and everyone was ducking because it was a gravel road so it was sending peebles everywhere. x
What have they been doing during the strike to keep themselves busy and happy?
Jensen replies he's been burying himself in, or really embraced, getting to be a dad every because there were several years where he only got to do that on weekends or here and there so coming up with things to do with the kids and embracing that but knowing that it’s temporary, it's an intense pause and absorb that, and he’s built himself a little music corner in his office. But not much, he’s not building a house or anything like that he’s just having fun and embracing the time he has right now.
Jared says it's much the same for him. It is difficult. It does get stressful especially because for 15yrs he and Jensen would accomplish something every day but the last time he filmed was March 10th so it’s been almost 7 months; it’s been weird for sure but like Jensen he's been hanging with the family and seeing what it’s like to be a parent, and a husband, and a brother, and a friend. x
If they could go back to when they read the very first script for SPN what would they say to their past selves?
Jared jokes that he'd say don’t do it.
Jensen answers that he'd say to his past self 'don't worry, you're gonna play Dean' because originally they were only auditioning for Sam so somewhere out there is his audition tape for Sam. He never read for Dean they just brought him in for the final test audition which is when he met Jared, and that was his first time reading for Dean.
Jared says that’s not uncommon for movies or shows to do, sometimes they’ll audition for just one character and then decide which character each person fits best. They wanna see the same thing they want to see the way you react so it wasn’t like Jensen lost the role of Sam that's just what they do.
Jensen says there are a lot of roles he’s gotten as a product of reading for something else like his role in Smallville. It came down to him and Tom Welling for the role of Clark Kent and Tom ended up getting it then a few years later they called Jensen because they wanted to incorporate him into the show. So they wrote a role for him and gave it to him, so a lot of that happens where you go read for something and end up getting another role. So that's what he would say to his younger self who was reading the script for the first time thinking it would be Sam that he would be fighting for he'd just be like 'hey, don't worry it's gonna be Dean'. And when he read for Sam he did ask when they’d be reading for Dean cause he wanted a shot at it, and he says Kripke and Nutter looked at each other like 'we got you'.
Jared says that more than about the show specifically he doesn’t think there’s such a thing as starting your life or doing something so one day you can have the life you want, life is happening now and that’s something he’s learned through friendships and through relationships. If you sit down and beat yourself up thinking once you get something you’ll have a life and get to do whatever you want to do but life is happening now, you're living life now so he wishes he could tell his past self that because a lot of 20-year-old Jared was upset.
Jensen adds that Jared had just come off Gilmore Girls, he was in his early 20’s and he had a really good set up going in LA, he had a solid girlfriend, really good friends, his dogs, a good house, he was really kind of set up then when the show started they moved to Van. At this point, Jared asks if they’ve told the story about how they found out they would be filming the show in Van. Because they filmed the pilot LA thinking that's where they were going to stay, and then the show was picked up so they go to New York for the upfronts, and then they got flown out to dinner with the bosses at the time and that's when they find out the show would be filmed in Vancouver. So that was a big pulling the rug out kind of thing, it ended up being amazing, Van was a phenomenal place and the show worked out but it caught him off guard but he got by with a little help from his friend. x
They've done anime before, do they like it?
Jared hated doing the VO work for the SPN anime.
Jensen says the thing is with the VO work they did for the anime, which Jared ended up doing a bit more than what Jensen had agreed to, is that they were coming in to effectively dub in English so the animation was already done and they were trying to adjust the dialogue to try and fit what the animation was doing which is backward from how it's usually done. Because normally the dialogue comes first and the animation is done second to match the dialogue and that process of VO work he enjoys but the anime that they did was really awkward and just not that enjoyable. x
When they eat a taco do they tilt their head to the left or to the right?
They both go left. Jared says he holds it with his right same with a pizza because he’s the type to bend the pizza in half and as he's saying this Jensen decides to say it's the same with a kiss and Jared says prove it….and then...they lean towards each other...and act like they're about to kiss….I s2g one of these days...mark my words! One. Of. These. Days. x
If they could live in another country where would it be and why?
Jared answers Italy cause he loves Italy. He also says G is in the process of getting her Italian passport so he gets grandfathered in.
Jensen replies he doesn’t know, he’s pretty happy in America. There are a few places out there he thinks would be really fun to live in, Italy is certainly one. He’s a big fan of Scotland, D’s parents have had a place on the west coast of Scotland for 17 years he could see himself being there, he hears Portugal is lovely, also Switzerland he loves Switzerland. x
What was one of the most difficult obstacles they have had to face or overcome either growing up or in their adult life?
Jared says he doesn’t know where to start but he’ll give it a shot and it's going to sound absurd but uncertainty in general. As a kid he didn’t know much, didn't know what he was gonna do, and he and Jensen had a very similar journey into what they do for a living now, they were both 17yr old Texans moving to the West coast where everyone wants to be in the industry. Even to this day, it feels uncertain cause they’ve both worked for 27yrs then their union went on strike so how does he work and provide for his family and provide an example for his kids- so just trying to accept that nothing is certain. Uncertainty is a part of life and you have to deal with it.
Jensen says life is full of challenges otherwise it'd be very boring so he thinks you embrace those challenges and each one makes you better. When you're challenged you're learning things, that's teaching you things. They both left and moved out to the West Coast when they were teens which thinking about that now knowing what he knows now he can’t believe their parents allowed them to do that but you ask his dad and he’ll say one of the hardest things he’s had to do in his life is get on the plane after driving Jensen to LA and leave his 18yr old son in one of the biggest cities in the world alone. He got to a point that was probably when he booked Days of Our Lives that he had to come to terms with the fact that he was probably never going to move back home and that he was destined to be gone, that was tough to get over. He had a very great childhood with both his parents and both sets of grandparents, he was raised in a very loving home so leaving that and realizing that he probably wasn’t coming back to that was a big leap of faith but again he’s happy he did it because it has given him quite the journey. He says if we cling to what’s safe then we miss out on a journey that’s more rewarding than we could possibly imagine.
Jared adds home is where family is and family doesn't mean blood so you find found family and that's home.
There was a little fangirl!Jared moment when Jensen brought up Days of Our Lives, and when he notices Jensen quips that Jared has also been one of the biggest challenges he’s to deal with in his adult life x
What personality trait from themselves did they bring to Sam and Dean and what personality trait from the brothers did they take to themselves?
Jared will say he is very analytical. Jensen will tease him often because he still reads instruction manuals, he still finds himself more at home plugged into a book than out and about. Sam gave him some pretty awesome hair. And he will say he’s grateful because he got to explore what sacrifice meant without actually having to get possessed by Lucifer, or die several times, or watch his brother die several times so he learned a lot about how to persevere or choosing to persevere. So he guesses he's learned perseverance ultimately is a choice.
Jensen would say something he brought to Dean from his personality is a fierce protection for the ones that he loves. Not necessarily physically like sure if he and Jared are walking down the street and somebody pushes Jared and starts barking at him Jensen is probably gonna come right over his shoulder with a fist which Jared says it’s happened before and Jensen admits it has happened! 👀👀👀👀👀👀
But he doesn’t always mean it physically if somebody is badmouthing somebody that he loves he will wear them down mentally very quickly and it is something he will do unwaveringly. He feels Dean was very much like that as well; something he learned from Dean, he thinks after playing that character for 15yrs his temper has shortened which doesn’t play well into the fiercely protective thing very well so he's still trying to balance those things out.
He thinks Jared would agree those two characters are still very much alive and living inside of them and will forever. x
What was Jensen's inspiration for pursuing music?
He answers just having friends who are true musicians in his life that he gets inspired by musically quite often and it was finally some of those friends encouraging him to listen to that inspiration and do something with it and that was the result of a long time coming. And it's given him not just a voice but also the confidence to do it and enjoy it and music is a powerful thing. x
I found this so adorable I have to include a timestamp to it but just Jensen holding his mic for Jared to say his goodbye to the crowd at the very end- i don't know how to explain but there's something so sweet about it go watch it 🥰

Stupidest though that has crossed my mind ; The Agency ( + Kurumi ) playing Minecraft together. 🤠✨🥂
So like, I feel like Halara would be running the server, not because they’re super into video games or anything, but because they get tired of Desuhiko abusing admin privileges, so in order to keep relative peace in the server, they’re running it. Probably the main builder of the group, makes the main base, keeps everything organized, probably really good at redstone circuits.
Fubuki is normally the one prettying up the base and taking care of the animals, getting flowers, planting gardens, farming. Kurumi is probably helping her sometimes, but for the most part, Fubuki is the one doing the decorating and farming, probably has a fuck ton of dogs and cats.
Desuhiko is so cringefail, he enjoys playing, he really does, but he just has shit luck and is the type to get killed on spawn, forget to place his bed, not bring food with him on adventures. He’s definitely rage quit before. Absolutely flexes when he gets Diamond tools and armor though, but c’mon, you gotta be a little proud of him.
Vivia is definitely the type to know everything about the Nether, and would spend most of his time in there. He marks where bastions are and nether fortresses, spends a lot of time looking for those spawns and looking for netherite. Probably knows a lot about enchanting too.
Yuma is the only one with a plan, he’s the one who focuses on the objective of the game, so he’s constantly trying to speedrun getting to The End, but doesn’t take much time to explore really. He knows the best speedrun seeds, and really tries to stock up on everything so he’s ready to fight the Ender Dragon and the Wither when the time comes. Shinigami is complaining that he’s not “playing the game right” because he’s not exploring enough.
Kurumi is the adventurer, she likes to search for desert temples, ocean temples, ice spikes, lush caves. She always invites Yuma and Fubuki to come along with her, has accidentally hit polar bears before, has definitely tried to bring every mob back to their base, lured a panda over with bamboo before. Can absolutely land a water bucket.
Yakou is the only one getting actually jumpscared by the game, totally hates caves, acts like it doesn’t bother him at all though. He is so stressed when playing, especially because everyone’s so busy with their own tasks, he’s normally the only one in the mines. Definitely has dumb luck though, probably the first one to find the strong hold, badlands, and Ancient City, but lost his cool when the Warden came out.

I managed to get my hands on a super rare bamboo species! This is a young chusquea gigantea. Back in 2019, every specimen in the world flowered and died at the same time. This only happens once every hundred years or so.
That means every specimen that exists right now had to be regrown from seed, and all of them are less than 5 years old. Every single plant nursery in the state was out of stock, and so were the nurseries in surrounding states...except for one a couple states away, which is where I got this specimen. I called up the shop and managed to score a really good discount on my order too. It was a rough journey on this poor thing by UPS, but it's still alive so far!
They didn't have many in stock, so I preordered 4 more to be delivered in spring just in case some died. In the meantime, I'm going to try to grow this one in a container over the winter and then transplant it outside in spring.
If all goes well, this little guy will become my best tool for screening those greenhouses behind our property. It's the tallest of clumping bamboos that can grow in my region at 25-50ft tall! No other zone 8 clumper can get above 15-20ft. The greenhouses are about 25ft, so it should do the job easily. It grows much faster than trees and it spreads on its own, so it is cheaper than trees in the long run.
Unlike most other bamboos, these canes are solid instead of hollow, so they are a lot stronger and can be used for all kinds of things like fences and shade screens. If I can get a healthy strand going in a few years I will definitely make use of them. They're also edible, so it's a food crop too!
I'm so emotionally invested in this little plant lol. Man I really hope I can keep it alive! It was SO hard to find these things, and I know if I kill them, I won't be able to find replacements for at least a year or two.
If I succeed, it'll look like this in 2-3 years:

Chenford Week 2023
Day 2: TV Tropes Day
I spun the wheel, and this bitch is what I got, okay?
CW: Major Character Death
Full fic below the cut and also here, on AO3.

.
A caveat: I do not want or wish this to happen. I do not think this is reflective of our canon Tim (or at least, I hope not). However, I do want you to cry.
For backing music, I recommend ‘Kevin & Casey’ by West Dylan Thordsen from the ‘Glass’ soundtrack. Put it on…now.
.
Green was the colour of peace.
Peace. Wealth. Health.
Life.
He loved her in green.
(He loved her in any colour, but especially in green.)
She’d worn a green belt around her wedding dress, and he hadn’t even noticed until Angela sidled up to him, champagne softened, and pointed it out. They’d shopped together for it, searched high and low to find exactly what she was looking for, checked every store from Rodeo Drive to the Santee Alley. It was Lyla who’d found the perfect piece of material, recycling thrifted garments into trendy fashion and disassembling an eighties bridesmaid dress into threads and ribbons.
She’d worn it in her hair the next day, weaving it through a braid that crowned her head - more exquisite than diamonds; queen of his heart.
He’d brought her fresh flowers, as often as he remembered, and she’d moved the vases from surface to surface, pointedly remarking how bright the colours were in the clean but sterile surrounds of his house.
Of course he’d let her paint.
Anywhere she wanted, any colours she wished. Bright yellow and deep blue and forest green. Masking tape evolving into golden streaks of sunshine, splitting the colours into a rioting kaleidoscope on carefully chosen feature walls.
It quickly became ‘their house’.
Their home.
An extension for Tamara. A crate for their yoga mats. Little Buddhas and succulents and candles - candles everywhere. Tealights and pillars and votives; organic or scented or tapered or wood-wicked. He was forever chasing flickering flames, dutifully blowing out the sparks in hurried puffs before following her laughter into their bedroom.
Then, one day, there were no more flames.
A week - less - awash with unwanted candles and bouquets of flowers, and then…
Gone.
Forever.
He’d placed himself beside one tall candle (a year’s worth of wax in the normal run of things - more like a couple of months if she’d had access to it) and behind a small avalanche of wreaths, and he hadn’t moved for hours.
The mourners poured through the room like an endless river of despair.
It was Nolan, of all people, that had kept him upright. Fending off the few sympathisers who tried to breach his floral barricade with an unassuming nod and a handshake, and guiding them past the casket and down the line of friends and family. Rounding the barrier and steadying his shoulder with a quiet hand when his breath started to shake or his body started to tilt. Passing him cups of water throughout the day without ever making eye-contact.
He didn’t remember the service.
Grey spoke for him. Genny too.
He never said a word.
What was there left to say?
The end of the world had come - the end of his world - and despite everything in his life up until that point, he still hadn’t been prepared.
The burial was burned into his mind, flashbulb moments in a misty cemetery.
A black-clad crowd, huddled together like a murder of crows.
The minister sheltered beneath a dark umbrella.
One giant, gaping hole in the clay at his feet. Far too big. Far too long.
Her casket - bamboo woven and speckled with mushroom spores. Her choice. She would sink into the soil and it would embrace her, tenderly entwining her molecules with seeds and roots until she dissolved beyond her mortal limits and became one with the earth.
Beyond his reach.
Evergreen.
The others had taken turns staying over with him. With Tamara. She’d wept and wept in his arms, and he’d had nothing to say to console her. Bailey had taken the lead on finding something to send them to sleep, dosing them methodically and packing them off to bed. Instructions listed and left for whoever was to guard them the next night, and the next.
James played smooth hip-hop low on the living room speaker all night long.
Wesley read, a pile of thick books gathering in the corner beside Kojo’s bed.
Nyla had a games console, the whirrs and ticks of the sound effects punctuating the dark.
Genny brought the boys, all three camping out on the floor in front of the TV screen, her hands looped tenderly into the hair of one and the elbow of the other.
Angela sat in silence, staring into space. Occasionally lifting her phone and scrolling through her photos. Sniffing quietly into a tissue as the reels went on.
Nolan had eventually offered to take Kojo; given him the run of his spacious backyard.
Tamara had gathered her things and folded herself into the embrace of her friends, whittering and fluttering around her like a flock of protective doves as they packed her up and drove her back to college.
And he was alone.
He’d tried to go back to the station, managed three whole days of re-immersive Patrol before it was all too much.
She was everywhere, there.
Her coffee mug clinking in the breakroom. Her fingers clattering over keys in the bullpen. Her pen scratching on paper at the intake desk. Her keys rattling in the locks of the cells.
Her voice, her laughter, her breath, her scent all over his office and the briefing room and in every single god damn shop they offered him.
Pine had agreed to a transfer. ‘Compassionate grounds’. Offered him Hollywood, and when he’d baulked, swapped him out with a willing officer from Central Division.
It was busy there. Probably even more so than Mid-Wilshire. Train lines and homeless camps and tourist traps. Celebrities and low-lifes constantly shoulder to shoulder. He clocked up enough overtime to worry the Captain, and grimly pleaded his case when she’d suggested therapy instead. She’d given in and let him have his way.
Angela visited, routing her cases out of her grid to check in on him from time to time. He could see the calculating look in her eyes, her thoughts flashing back to his years after Isabel.
This was different, though.
He knew it, and she could see it too, and he knew it frightened her more than his past rage.
He was cold now. Removed. Closed-off and stiff and monosyllabic, at best.
Something in him sparked a new fear in his suspects, their defiance withering away at his silent stoicism. Arrests were quick and clean, for the most part, and he never engaged in verbal sparring or articulate arguments anymore.
His team respected him, but kept their distance. Greeted him in the mornings, saluted him at night. Offered perfunctory invitations to social gatherings that he would never attend.
His locker and office were grey. Bare surfaces and the rudiments of his supplies. No notes, no stickers, no photos.
No boots - only his own.
Objects were one thing - easy to cut out and discard and ignore. People were more difficult. Angela and Genny were persistent, sending Nolan and Nyla to Good Cop/Bad Cop him when he refused their approaches. Tamara sent voice notes or video calls at college-kid hours, which, predictably, lined up with his own. Wesley and James tried to badger him into guy’s nights out. Grey cornered him at work and sat him down for a stern talking-to.
But, eventually, his detachment wore them out, and they stopped calling. Stopped messaging. Stopped dropping by.
Bailey stopped sending clips and pictures of Kojo.
Tamara stopped spending weekends at the house.
Genny and, finally, Angela gave up and stopped appearing on his beat or in his office or at his door.
And he was alone.
Completely alone.
Lost, without her.
Their house grew dim, dust gathering in the corners and on the statues. The plants died out, withered bouquets first, then his fern, and at last, her tiny little succulents. The air grew stale, the rooms unlived in and unloved. No candles lit to drive away the small ghosts that clung to the furniture and the dark recesses of the hallway.
It was a tomb, a mausoleum to her memory, haunted each day by his living shadow.
But there was nothing alive here now.
Only on her grave, where he knelt in the soft earth and dug his fingers into the clay below him, was there any life.
Jasmine and lavender.
Warmed in the sunlight and sparkling with moonstone-bright droplets from the sprinklers.
This was the only place he could breath, could feel his heart trip into tangible rhythm.
And he breathed deep.
Jasmine and lavender.
Lush and vital and thriving over her final resting place. Petals smiling up at him with gleaming white teeth.
They know.
Tim is the one who died that day, his soul ripped out and buried there in the ground with her.
But Lucy…
Lucy is evergreen.

Haven't seen one of these floating around for the recent MTAP tag but here's some gameplay tips I've picked up as a newbie who picked this up while it was 80% off on steam. I was mega stressed early on due to not knowing things and would be happy to pass on advice to save others the stress:
1. Reddit is good for advice and tumblr is penalizing me for links so yeah. Use the reddit community and/or wiki when stuck. Link to a decent set of advice is in the replies to this post.
2. Repair your workshop as soon as possible bc you'll wake up with low stamina daily until that gets done. Doesn't take more than like 30ish or so pieces of wood.
3. Yep the advice to make more than one machine is correct. Even for the blender. Maybe not the cooking setup or basic skiver per se. Yes, this will use up resources and space. Use the For Sale sign to expand space (or be like me and try to cram a level 2 house into a space too small for it 😅).
4. In the small planter boxes, grow lettuce, cotton, and wheat as much as possible if you can. You can also grow other things, but these seem to be the most helpful for feeding mounts and skiver crafting. Large boxes are for the special giant seeds and you can get the box from the church store and seeds from the Mysterious Man. Fertilize often to have the best shot at winning the Autumn Festival!
5. No, you can't have a rival romance with Higgins, tragically. But you can spar and body block him and chat to him until 9 AM to prevent him from taking commissions, especially the fancy valuable ones. I'm currently chill with being at rank 2 in my first year so I don't bother yet. I still think we should be allowed to woo him. As a treat. And mechanic to make him nicer 😅. Btw once he scams you (you'll know when) talk to him as soon as possible after and you can at least guilt him into giving you money.
6. No seriously do use Gust's shop in A&G to swap for 999 wood and keep furnaces running. You'll get wayyy too much stone from mining and the first quarry only gives so much marble for stone tables to sell en masse when the market is up. Other quarries are annoying to get to in the early game. Use the excess for wood first, then making stone bricks or stone tools etc to sell or whatever. Go wild. I make excess glass to sell since it's more profitable than raw resource selling, yep even with the wood cost. Still haven't figured out how to make excess soil more profitable besides planter boxes.
7. If you don't wanna feel like a monster for killing llamas for their worn fur, you can totally kill panbats. I like all the critters so I feel like a monster regardless 🥴. Kinda has to be done for certain quests and quest items tho.
8. Make allll the Dee-Dee Stops you can for the spots marked on the map. You can also have your mount follow you to the next stop.
9. Bring or make stamina repletion food when mining, esp if you have the game speed slowed down and don't run to the Round Table to replete (you have a limited number of things you can eat and can only eat once daily... Or you could try sitting for an hour if you aren't like me and it won't drive you crazy to sit and do nothing).
10. Annoying timed storyline quest needed items that you can collect earlier while the main story has no time limit for progression per se: pretty much all ores/ore products and special mining items like valves and engines, wild cocoons, ironwood (more than you think), bat wings, bamboo papaya, information discs (I keep the extra beyond the ones I give Petra for research in general for the storyline quest diagrams; I can complete the relics later), knight badges from the Round Table (minimum 250 of them), old parts, crystal necklace x1, dog food x1, soap x1, wildflower bouquet from Alice x1, tempering fluid, copper and steel wire, steel planks, welding rods. Can't think of the other ones that were super urgent and non-commission board rn as of Winter 1st (my latest stopping point) but yeah this is totally a hoarding game.
11. P.S. To get into the hazardous ruins area as a lower level, literally just dodge and run for 60 seconds. Do a hit if you feel brave. Yes, it's cowardly but it totally works and unlocks neat stuff you really need for certain quests. You can kick their asses later.
12. The worst that can happen if you die is that you get warped back home. Same for passing out at 3 AM but without the health depletion. Use that knowledge for what you will. I've noticed in boss battles it just bumps me back to the start of the battle with full health and stamina so I only get warped back further in other situations.
That's all I have for now but I may add more as I play. Hope this helps!

A 5-Course Bard Meal to Transport Us Back to Love Between Fairy And Devil
Tumblr media
The most precious servings for us Cloud Dream Lake inhabitants come right at the end.
Appetizer
Fairy wings. These are small, crispy chicken wings that are coated in a sweet and sour sauce. They are a delicious and playful appetizer that is perfect for a party.
Deviled eggs. These are hard-boiled eggs that are filled with a creamy and flavorful mixture of mayonnaise, mustard, and paprika. They are a classic appetizer that is perfect for any occasion.
Bamboo Shoots with Sesame Seeds. Bamboo shoots are a symbol of new beginnings, which is perfect for the story of Love Between Fairy and Devil, as it follows the journey of two characters who are from different worlds.
Caviar with blinis. Caviar is a luxurious food that is made from the eggs of sturgeon fish. It is often served with blinis, which are small pancakes. The rich and luxurious caviar is a perfect representation of the devil, while the light and fluffy blinis represent the fairy.
Soup
youtube
Tomato soup. Tomato soup is a classic American soup that is made with tomatoes, cream, and onions. It is a refreshing and light soup that is perfect for a summer meal. The bright red color of the soup is a symbol of love, while the creamy texture is a symbol of comfort.
Cream of mushroom soup. Cream of mushroom soup is a smooth and creamy soup that is made with mushrooms, cream, and white wine. It is a delicious and comforting soup that is perfect for a rainy day. The earthy flavor of the mushrooms is a symbol of the devil’s dark side, while the creamy texture is a symbol of the fairy’s gentle nature.
Salad
youtube
Caprese salad. Caprese salad is a simple but delicious salad that is made with fresh mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and basil. It is a refreshing and light salad that is perfect for a summer meal. The bright colors of the salad represent the love between the fairy and the devil, while the simple ingredients represent the purity of their love.
Green bean salad with mandarin oranges and pomegranate seeds. Green beans are a symbol of growth and change, which are both themes that are explored in Love Between Fairy and Devil. The mandarin oranges and pomegranate seeds represent warm wishes.
Main Course
Dragon's Breath steak with roasted potatoes and asparagus. The climax of our long feast is a classic, hearty and flavorful main course made with grilled or pan-seared meat. The steak represents the strength and power of the devil, while the roasted potatoes and asparagus represent the beauty and grace of the fairy. The entire beautiful dish is served steamingly hot, evoking scenes of our epic romantic couple missing, bickering with and tending to each other in Water Cloud Sky.
Dessert
youtube
Chocolate lava cake with blueberries on the side. Chocolate lava cake is a decadent dessert that is made with a rich chocolate cake and a gooey chocolate center. It is a perfect dessert for a special occasion. The rich chocolate flavor of the cake represents the passion between the fairy and the devil, while the gooey chocolate center represents the sweetness of their love. The Homo sapiens curator tossed in the blueberries as a throwback to the water theme running across the three realms of the story universe.
The Mermaid Fairy's kiss. A light and airy dessert made with meringue, whipped cream, and fresh berries. The dessert is garnished with a sprinkling of fairy dust in the form of powdered sugar and symbolizes the pure fairy's healing of the devil. The mermaid kiss represents the fairy and the devil's forbidden love.
Now that we're well-fed by the finest of Big Tech's kitchen, with the supplement of some self-service expositions, it's time to ponder the question whether generative AI is a fairy or a devil. The job of an AI output curator entails 1) ensuring the algorithm perform its story research properly before coming up with recommendations, 2) guarding against culturally or otherwise biased suggestions, 3) resetting or otherwise isolating machine conversations to prevent previous queries and results from bleeding into the current result where such bleeding is unnecessary and 5) screening and researching results for inaccuracies.
Here is more sugar for thought:
How do we represent the fairy's latent magic and conflicted loyalties and the devil's dual nature and repentance? How can cuisine capture their dramatic sacrifices and gradual moving transformations?
To what depth can AI research the story in the first place? Wouldn't it be even cooler if Bard can know of iconic food scenes like the one (Spoiler alert!) featuring Fairy-in-Moon-Supreme-Body and the Moon Supreme himself pettily fighting over a kingly feast in Cangyan Sea?
The listed dishes are painstakingly curated from numerous queries and refined specifications. Experiment for yourself the extent of meal suggestion repetition across different dramas and meal occasions. How much is AI merely fitting your request into predefined answers? When it does this, how much of a unique being are you and is it sincerely answering your question? Some analogies: Santa Claus gifts you a factory uniform when you wish for your own special outfit; a salesperson touts to someone nostalgically looking for a vintage phone the smartphone model the store has stocked plenty of, adapting product virtues on the pitch template to the customer rather than adapting the product itself to the customer.
Which AI models are better at true creativity? Which merely reinforce conventional thinking?
The repetition of the kind-girl-powerful-guy motif, especially before human Cloud Dream Laker edits, is also concerning. Yet this is not a problem limited to machine learning or cuisine symbolism. Since symbols are all we more often than not end up with in media references and casual chats, however nuanced the original plot is, can we swap the genders in the next breakout fantasy series for much necessary balance? Reversed gender dynamics need to appear in higher frequencies across pop culture landscapes. A cackling demoness supreme and an innocent, non-aggressive male fairy nudging out her good side without preaching, s'il vous plaît.
