In this scene, Roz mirrors both Liesl and Captain Von Trapp’s roles, first begging her boyfriend to pretend he hasn’t found them, then separating herself from the group to protect them. More subtly, Lilith, with her child, reflects the role of Maria, who throughout the scene keeps the youngest Von Trapp, Gretl, either in an embrace or close to her.
