Ruggie: Yo, MC! Long time no see! *feeling a bit nervous*
MC: *looking sternly at him* It's been a while, Ruggie.
Ruggie: So... Is that Prince Liora? Gosh. He does really look like Leona.
Baby Liora: *smiles at Ruggie*
MC: I assume that Falena sent you here to ask for my permission?
Ruggie: Whew! You just saved me time by saying it! Shishishi!
MC: ...
MC: Hm. Liora is too young to be sent alone to Sunset Savannah.
MC: Drag Leona with you and make sure to return my son to me.
Ruggie: Eh? Are you not going?
MC: Why would I do that?
Ruggie: Er... You're the one who gave birth to Prince Liora.
Ruggie: I think it wouldn't be fair to leave you here.
MC: Are you asking me to go back to that place so I could hear the rumors about how I cheated on Leona and the sudden birth of Liora?
Ruggie: ...
Ruggie: Those cheating rumors have already stopped. Though, yeah, you might be right about the latter.
Ruggie: However, *grins* isn't Prince Liora's face enough evidence that Leona is the dad?
MC: ...
MC: *smiles*
Ruggie: Did I succeed in convincing you?
MC: Yes.
Ruggie: *sigh* I wish Leona was as talented as me when it comes to situations like this. Seriously, what has he been doing?
Leona: *standing behind him* Taking care of my baby.
Ruggie: Gah! L-Leona?
MC: I hate to admit it, but he has been sleep-deprived because of Liora.
Ruggie: Oh...
Ruggie: ...
Ruggie: BWAHAHAHAHA!
Kalim: Really?! You're going back to Sunset Savannah?!
MC: Yes, my lord. But worry not, I'll make sure to return-
Kalim: It's okay if you don't come back for a year! Or even two years!
Kalim: Or even three years-
Jamil: Kalim.
MC: ...
MC: Are you subtly dismissing me from service, my lord?
Kalim: Nononono! Of course not! I just want you to enjoy your time with your family!
MC: ...
MC: As I was saying, I would be sure to be back.
Cheka: Mama! Papa! MC, Unca, and Lili will be arriving here at the Royal Palace! Yay!!!!
Falena and his wife: *lets out a sigh of relief*
Falena: It was a good thing that we sent Ruggie to convince MC.
His wife: *nods*
Cheka: Papa! Papa! Let me welcome them at the entrance!
Falena: Go ahead, Cheka.
Baby Liora: *giggles at everything he sees*
MC: ...
MC: You look stupid right now, Leona.
Leona: *who refused to let Ruggie carry their stuff*
Leona: Tch. Leave me be.
Ruggie: Yeah. Shishishi! He just wants to show that you can depend on him.
Leona: Quiet.
"MC?!!"
Ruggie: Eh? Who is that- *turns to look behind them*
MC's sister: YOU'RE BACK?!!
MC: ...
MC: Ruggie, continue walking.
Ruggie: Oh, right. Sorry-
MC's sister: Don't you ignore me! You said you would never come back!
MC's sister: And I'm just on my way to the Royal Palace because father sent me to become Prince Leona's bride!
Leona: THE HELL YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT?!
MC's sister: P-Prince Leona?
MC: ...
MC: Huh. Congratulations to both of you then. *hands Baby Liora to Ruggie and gets their stuff from Leona*
Leona: What-
MC: Follow us when you're done. *then walks away*
Ruggie: *tries to avoid getting in trouble, immediately follows after them*
Leona: ...
Leona: I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS! HEY!
MC's sister: P-Prince Leona-
Leona: Shut up! I'm a married man! *runs after MC*
MC's sister: ...
MC's sister: *yells* I WILL TELL FATHER ABOUT THIS!

We got more from what I'm calling the Intertwine-verse!
Quick facts about this verse of G4(/G5) that is unlike the canon:
- Alicorns cannot be made in this universe, therefore Celestial, Luna, Cadence, Twilight, Flurry and Luster never become full alicorns. However, by being crowned a royal by Sterling and Gold (alicorn's blessing), the pony in question will gain potent magic that amongst other things gives the pony a longer lifespan (up to 300 years extra). The magic is likely to manifest like how Sunny Starscout’s alicorn powers do.
- The lifespans of royals goes back to normal once the magic is taken away between G4 and G5. When the magic returns later on only Sunny gain the alicorn's blessing since she is the one to bring Luster's crystals back together. She is likely to be the last pony to gain the alicorn's blessing for a long time.
—————
Here's some Intertwineverse history
Gold Lily and Sterling were alicorns born long before Equestria’s beginnings. Similar in age but never acquainted in childhood, both were chosen to save the pony tribes from freezing to death.
Gold Lily chosen for her calm empathic and kind nature. She knew the unease of new unknowns, about being forced to face the dread but come out on top. The young alicorn had a way of easing the anxiety of change for others. How to welcome progress in a way that could only compared to the hope of a new dawn.
Sterling chosen for her reassuring but stern nature. She always put emphasis on the inevitability of a setting sun, nothing could ever last forever. That did not mean the past was no longer epochal in how it teaches us our most valuable lessons. Sterling had a way with closure and letting the past go that could only compare to the sun’s last light fading behind the horizon.
The two young alicorn first met only days before their departure to what would later become Equestria. Without yet knowing each other, they both knew their destinies were intertwined. They both felt it the moment their eyes met.
Gold and Sterling earned their god-like powers after restoring balance to the world by defeating Discord with the Elements of Harmony early in Equestria’s history. The god of chaos had made a rift so prominent that the two princesses had to learn how to manually raise the moon and sun. No longer could the day nor night make it through its natural cycle without them moving the celestial bodies.
After about 700 years of royal duties, Gold and Sterling began looking for apprentices. Someponies to take over the hardships of ruling Equestria, all this in hopes that the two of them could focus on finding a way to restore or undo what Discord’s magic had caused. Two young and promising unicorns named Celestia and Luna are chosen to train under the princesses until they are ready to take on the princesses' roles.
The unicorn sisters rule over Equestria for almost 300 years before taking on their own apprentices, Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle. Sunset Shimmer mysteriously disappears and leaves Twilight to train under Celestial and Luna on her own.
A jealous Opaline Arcana has watched Gold Lily and Sterling be the most powerful beings in Equestria for almost a thousand years. She decides she is more worthy of all that power and goes to take it all for herself. On the day Twilight Sparkle is about to meet her future friends Opaline makes her way to Ponyville where not only Celestia and Luna are, but Gold Lily and Sterling too.
With the help from the Elements of Harmony, Twilight and her friends defeat Opaline and banish her to the sun. Before being blasted away Opaline swears revenge on Twilight and her friends.
Gold Lily and Sterling leaves Equestria to search for the cure to Discord's chaos magic once again, feeling that Equestria will be safe in Twilight and her friends' hooves.
Twilight rules for a little more than 300 years before passing the throne onto Luster Dawn. (Cadence passes the throne onto Flurry Heart)
Gold Lily and Sterling manages to find an ancient draconequus artifact that restores balance to nature to the point that ponies no longer need to change the seasons, weather or day to night. Unfortunately they have to pay their immortality for the artifact. They retire to live out their last days back in their homeland.
When Opaline returns a thousand years after her banishment, she finds out that not only is Twilight long dead, but magic has disappeared too. Luster Dawn had had a moment of weakness not long before passing away in which she feared that once Opaline returns, she’ll have no one to stop her from taking everyone’s magic (and taking over Equestria). So if no one has any magic, there’s none to take. Luster separates the magic into one crystal for each of the three pony tribes. She orders her apprentices (one from each tribe) to hide the crystals away where they won’t be connected nor found.
Generations of misinformation and mistrust later, Sunny Starscout brings magic back together with her friends and Opaline is free to finally collect it. She is later defeated by Sunny and her friends.

The Crimson King | Rhaegar Targaryen
Tumblr media
ship: rhaegar targeryen x fem!oc
warnings: I really don't think there is any? jaime is a little scary i guess. OH and cannon divergence. Big ol' TW for that.
summary: a young crannogman girl meets the crowned prince on a very special occasion.
word count: 3298
a/n: phew! this was a long time coming. I hope you like it! (and if you don't fuck with the romance, there's a more interesting scene at the end!) There will be a part 2, just by the way ;)
written by @ganymede-princess
The thick, hot air in the royal ballroom carried the scent of a thousand perfumed bodies. Long tables lined the room, piled high with foods from across the Seven Kingdoms. Among the dishes Frida spied fat frogs legs and water lily syrup from her home in the Neck, next to crabs and succulent fried fish from Lannisport, sweet pastries made from the honey of Highgarden, and bowls of flakey pink rock salt from Dragonstone. Despite the sight of countless exotic delicacies, her stomach churned.
Hundreds of highborn folk all milled around, laughing, dancing, talking, each one dressed more lavishly than the last. Frida had never seen so much silk in one place. Bewitched as she was with the nightlife of King's Landing, she found herself growing into the wall like an unsightly mushroom. She was acutely aware that she did not blend in with the royal aesthetics. Her unruly hair could only be half tamed and her mauve linen gown looked miserly next to the lavish satins and velvets that garbed the ruling class. Frida could feel a hundred sets of eyes boring into her, though when she glanced around, there were none there to meet. She thought there must be hearths burning somewhere. If there were no hearths, why did the air feel so heavy?
Frida searched the room for the face of her brother to no avail. Ewyn had no struggles with making friends in spite of his Crannogman roots and noticeable limp. Frida guessed he would be engaged by the end of the night. With no respite in sight and her breath coming shallower by the second, she made a hasty escape. She slipped around the edge of the ballroom, narrowly avoiding several dancing couples, at least three stray cats, and a drunken septon, before emerging onto a small rampart with stairs at either end. Frida thought it wise to take a quick turn around the rose garden below to calm herself, but once she reached a shadowed corner she could contain her exhaustion no longer and fell to her knees between two sweet smelling bushes. She did not cry, just breathed deeply, content in the knowledge that she was far away from prying eyes. Until she heard a sniffle from behind the rosebush to her left.
"Hello?" Frida's voice caught in her throat. There came no answer, just another quieter sniffle. "Who's there?"
"Nobody." Said the invisible man in a voice thick with sorrow. "Leave me."
"What's the matter?" The leaves rustled gently as Frida shifted awkwardly, trying her best to see through the thick bushes.
"Worry not."
"But you're crying."
"No." His voice cracked. "I am the- I am a man."
"What's that got to do with it?" Frida corrected. "My brother cries all the time, and he's already one and twenty."
There was a brief rustling in the bush and the clearing of a throat.
"What brings him to cry?" The voice seemed to settle a little.
"Oh everything!" Frida murmured. "Books, flowers, pretty sunsets. He cries almost every time he rides a horse. He has an injury to one of his legs, you see. A lizard-lion took his knee in its jaws and damn near tore his leg off! He used to love running, so riding is a real joy for him."
"A lizard-lion? You are from the Neck?"
Fuck. Frida thought. The voice carried the accent of King's Landing and she knew very well that folk from the capital were the most prejudiced against Crannogmen out of anywhere in the Seven Kingdoms. He was sure to send her away now, or worse.
"Yes."
"Tell me, what is it like there?"
"Oh- um. Wet." She babbled. "Very wet and slippery."
"I hear that beautiful flowers grow there." The man mused, his mild voice easing Frida's apprehension slightly.
"Yes. Ghost orchids, swamp arums, blue-eyed Bessies that grow on the trunks of trees; all of them beautiful." In a hushed voice she added, "But, do you know which is the most beautiful flower of all?"
"No, tell me."
"Black water lilies. My house has bred them to perfection."
"Your house?"
"I belong to House Fenn, Ser."
"Ah." There was a moment of surprisingly comfortable silence between them. "What brings you to the garden, my lady?"
"You take me for a lady?" Frida giggled.
"Are you not?" She could hear the smile return to his voice. "You take me for a Knight."
"Are you not?"
"I am, yes, but there is more to me than a knighthood."
"Such as?"
The man paused for a moment.
"You didn't answer my question."
Frida hesitated, searching for a way to put it lightly.
"The feast is full of beautiful people. I worried that my being there would ruin things."
"Why?"
"Well... I am ugly, Ser."
"Ugly?" His voice was curt with indignation. "Who led you to believe this?"
"My mother always told me that other folks look down on Crannogmen and that they find us ugly." In the anonymity of darkness, words tumbled out of her. "Though she also said I am ugly for a Crannogman."
A thick silence stood between them.
"How could a mother say such a thing to her child?"
"She's very sick, she doesn't think-"
"She's well enough that you believe her." The truth silenced Frida. "Come here so that I might see you for myself."
"You won't like it." She warned him and prepared herself to move, though she was unsure in which direction.
Frida heard the tink tink of flint against flint, then a warm glow began to shine through the rose bush. Her ears roared with the pounding of her heart, but she knew she had to show herself. She had to see the face of the man with the handsome voice, and more so she had to know what he thought of her. Trembling, she revealed herself. A black hood shrouded his face in shadow, but Frida could see his deep blue eyes widen, almost purple in the firelight.
"My lady-" His voice came in an urgent, breathy whisper.
"Don't."
She turned away from him, already humiliated, until she felt a hand gently guide her face back to him. She resisted, gripping his forearm.
"Please, look at me." Though his voice cracked in desperation, it was commanding enough that she turned to him again. The light caught his arrow-straight nose, and the soft pillow of his lips. Frida's breath hitched.
"I must take your mother for a liar, my lady."
"She said... people like you would think I look like a toad."
"No." He smiled. "But if you did, you would be a very beautiful toad indeed."
"Thank you." She blushed, somewhat sceptical. "Let me see you too."
"I can't, my-"
"Your Grace!" A tall, golden-haired man wearing a glittering white cloak and armour came careening around the corner of the hedge. "Gods, I thought I'd lost you. Avast, wench! Rise in the name of your king!"
The kingsguard drew his ornate longsword and pointed the sharp tip at Frida's face. Aghast, she cringed away from him and crawled a few paces back with him keeping pace.
"Enough, Jaime!" The shadowed man leapt to his feet and lunged forward to push the blade away, toppling over the lantern. "Can't you see she's harmless?"
"Kingslayer." The word was out of her mouth before Frida knew what she was saying. Jaime Lannister swung the sword back around to her.
"It's treason to disrespect a Kingsguard." The young man's eyes glittered with rage. "Say it once more and I'll cut the head from your shoulders, girl."
"Enough!" The shadowed man commanded, and grimacing, the Whitecloak stayed his blade. "Leave us."
"But, Your Grace-"
"Leave us. Alert Ser Barriston that the ceremony will take place as we discussed."
"Your Grace, I cannot leave you undefended."
"I have a sword on my hip and the skill to wield it. Leave us. You will not defy me again."
"Your Grace." Ser Jaime stalked off in a huff, his white cloak billowing behind him.
"Please," The shadowed man looked down at Frida, face creased with embarrassment. "Ser Jaime prefers the title The White Lion."
Frida gaped, wide eyed; knowing the truth but not believing it. As he picked up the lantern with his ungloved hand, Frida thought he would burn his fingers to the bone, but he simply dusted them on his coat, stamped out the fire in the grass with a black leather boot, and shed his hood to reveal a mop of hair that glimmered like spun silver. His eyes were wide and glassy, and Frida saw then that they truly were as purple as morning glory. He held out his hand, and for a moment all Frida could do was stare at it.
"My king." Frida could not keep the astonishment from her voice. "I'm sorry."
"For what reason?"
"I've spoken ill and disrespected you." She looked away. "I'm sure I have."
"I have heard no disrespect from you, lady, I am not so easily wounded. Please, take my hand." He pressed closer, a smile taking over his tear-streaked face when she let him pull her to her feet. "I appreciate your honest words, please do not dull your voice for the sake of my title. Besides, I ought to apologise for the behaviour of my protector. Please forgive him, he is young and still has much to learn."
"My king." Frida found herself without words.
"Go back to the feast, lady." The young dragon sighed and pressed a kiss against her palm. "I must prepare in my chambers. Thank you... for your kindness."
Without the wit to respond, Frida curtseyed clumsily and hurried back to the hall. Her head and heart were reeling with the urge to tell The Bloodmaid, her favourite weirwood from home, and she felt suddenly and starkly alone without the comfort of her red timber eyes. As she tumbled back into the ballroom, her gaze fell on her brother who leaned on a giant stone pillar, surrounded with a number of laughing Riverlander knights. Heart sinking, Frida took a steadying breath and marched up to the group.
"Ewyn, brother," Frida took him by the upper arm, silence falling on the group. "May I have a word, just for a moment?"
"Frida," Ewyn stumbled over his words. "Don't you see I'm busy?"
"Come, have a word with us, fair lady." Grinned a young man with red hair and a speckled face. "There is wine enough for another."
"Ed," Ewyn turned on him, scowling viciously. "Mind you don't drown in it, will you? Come on, Frida, let's talk."
He took her by the hand and limped away with impressive speed. When the pair were out of earshot, he frowned down at her.
"What is it?" Frida could smell the beer on his breath as he spoke.
"You're not going to believe me." She scratched her wrist, the sleeves on her dress suddenly feeling too close to her skin.
"I always believe you." Ewyn cocked an eyebrow, leaning against his mangrove cane.
"Well..." Frida chewed her fingers.
"You've been in the grass." He tutted derisively, green eyes alight with amusement.
She noticed that green stains marred her hem, along with her knees, and she assumed her buttocks too.
"Shit!" She muttered.
"Tsk tsk tsk, is that any way for a lady of the court to be speaking?"
"Oh, sod off." She aimed a half-hearted smack at his arm. "I'll have you know, it wasn't my fault. A Kingsguard knocked me over."
"A Kingsguard? Well, I suppose this is the place for it."
"Well... he was guarding the king."
Ewyn narrowed his eyes.
"What did you do? Spit on him?"
"No!" Frida pressed a hand against her cheek, trying to stave off the heat. "I just spoke to him, is all."
"You- you spoke to him?" His eyes were round as lily pads. "The king?"
"I didn't know it was him to start with. He was behind a bush with a cloak on, he could have been anybody."
"Yes, but-" He squinted, baffled. "He really spoke to you?"
"Yes-"
The trill of a lone trumpeter silenced them, and they turned to see a herald on the mezzanine above the ballroom.
"Make way to the Throne Room!" Though the herald was tall enough to be a man, his voice rang out high and clear as a child's. "The ceremony will begin presently!"
As the Goldcloaks pulled open the huge doors at the far end of the ballroom, Frida and Ewyn exchanged a glance, silently agreeing to discuss things later. They followed the snaking crowd down the long hallway until it opened into the cavernous throne room which was already teeming with smallfolk. A pair of enormous candelabras were suspended over the crowd, washing the blood red walls in firelight. Frida wondered how they kept the wax from dripping down on the folk below.
As they passed by the jostling throng of peasants and workers to take their places in front of the ornate barrier, she felt ashamed to be separated from them. Since childhood she had felt the earth on bare feet and worked hard to sustain her House; to be dressed in any kind of finery and placed above the common people felt farcical. Goldcloaks lined the edges of the passageway through the crowd, and Frida noticed they stood two abreast in the peasants' section at the back, and single file from the vassal and cadet houses, all the way to the lords and ladies of the great houses at the very front.
"What was he like?" Ewyn whispered.
"Sad." Frida sighed.
"Sad?" He raised an eyebrow, then nodded wisely. "It's the only way to feel in his position."
"Very lovely, though." She admitted. "He'll be a good king."
Her brother's eyes crinkled in amusement, then he jumped as the heralds rang out a triumphant cry from the back of the room. Silence fell over the crowd as every man, woman, and child turned at once. Frida peered through the crowd, barely able to see a thing. She could see a Targaryen flag bobbing over the crowd, sending an odd lump into her throat as it came closer, and closer. The entire room was silent except for the footsteps growing ever closer. No cheering or jeering, no coughing. Then, through the gap between the two Goldcloaks by her side she saw Ser Barristan Selmy stride through, holding a long staff with a red dragon flag of black silk, glorious in his white armour. Next was the crown prince himself, dressed in mournful black velvet finery and a heavy black cloak that dragged along the ground behind him. The sadness on his face seemed carved into stone, but he held his back straight and walked with the grace and strength of a king. Behind him, his remaining two Kingsguard marched beside each other, their heads held high in pride. Ser Jaime supported the tawny Dornishman Lewyn Martell, who limped along with one leg in a splint, their arms around each other in solidarity. Once the tiny party climbed all the way up the steps to the Iron Throne, Frida caught a glimpse of four men in white who stood a little ways down the steps, new blood waiting to be sworn into the Kingsguard: three fresh faced young warriors, and a grizzled man of middle age with deep auburn hair streaked with grey.
Selmy, Lannister, and Martell took their places beside their soon-to-be brothers, while Rhaegar stood before the Iron Throne, its silver blades forming rippling shadows on the massive horned dragon skull behind them. Frida imagined hundreds of fallen soldiers watching down on the man they had died for, using Balerion's great hollow eyes to see. If their loss weighed him down, he did not show it, standing strong as a giant on the steps where his father's blood once formed a crimson tide. The High Septon stood beside him, hands clasped in solemnity beneath dagged sleeves, heavy with jewels; and beside him stood the little prince Viserys, milk white curls almost to his waist, dutifully clutching a red lacquer box. Rhaegar's eyes swept across the crowd, burning with pride, grief... perhaps even fear; then he knelt, his black velvet cloak folding around his frame like a pair of wings.
"By the light of the Seven, we gather this night to welcome a new king. Let us pray." Every faithful soul in the crowd placed hand over heart at the septon's words. Even for Frida, who's gods were cold and wild, it was hard not to be moved. "May the Warrior lend him the courage of his ancestors, that he might lead us with a bold heart through the harshest of winters; and may the Smith guide him to mend the divisions of our realm. May the Maiden warm his bed with a fitting bride and many sons; and the Crone bless him with wisdom to pass on to his heirs. May the Father Above guide him to justice, and the Mother protect him from harm. And the Stranger- when he must come- may he take him kindly."
The Septon turned, and Little Viserys fumbled to open the box. Frida heart swelled when she spotted an encouraging smile on Rhaegar's face, which seemed to grant the toddler enough strength to get the lid off. He tottered forward and held it up above his head, and the Septon took out a plain gold circlet and nestled it into the King's pale curls.
"Under seven sets of watchful eyes, I name King Rhaegar of House Targaryen, the first of his name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. Long may he reign."
"Long may he reign." The crowd echoed as one.
Rhaegar rose to face them, and as he did, Frida saw that his crown was adorned with a single glimmering ruby that sat just above his eyes on a fine gold chain. He thrust his fist to the sky, and the room filled with the thunder of cheers and feet drumming on the stone floor. He seemed to drink in the praise, determination steeling his gaze. He dropped his fist to his side, silencing the crowd.
"From childhood, I knew the day my reign began would be marred with grief, but I could never have dreamt of the loss the realm has suffered for my coronation. I know that every soul in the Seven Kingdoms grieves for someone lost to this bloody rebellion, or my father's madness. King Aerys saw enemies in every shadow, and would have razed this city to the ground just to flood it with light and annihilate his mummer's adversaries. I saw smallfolk treated worse than dogs; children whipped by Goldcloaks in the street. How could a man see such tyranny and not rebel? Robert Baratheon's courage was admirable, and in another life I might have fought beside him and called him 'brother;' but his war was not the answer, and now we are left with the consequence. As I stand here now with you as my witnesses, I promise to usher in a new age of the Targaryen dynasty. An age of peace and unity, of prosperity and change. The House of the Dragon will reforge, and the realm along with it."
He stood in silence a moment, eyes ablaze. Then as the crowd erupted once more, he turned, his cloak billowing a red dragon on black, and stepped up to the Iron Throne on a stair forged from a giant warhammer. The heralds blared, Frida applauded until her hands burned with the effort and her heart hammered in her chest, and when she was done she felt her face wet with tears.

The Swan Princess
xxx
In the private royal gardens, one lone swan floated on the man-made pool. King David had several similar pools made throughout the castle within the past 10 years. Some were inside for the winter months, while others were in the private gardens so the swan could enjoy the warmer months outdoors.
The pool was made of white polished marble, with tall pillars and a roof to provide shade from the hot summer sun, along with an ornate fountain in the centre. Lily pads and coy fish had been added to the pool for stimulation and atmosphere, but the swan became less and less impressed with these additions as she grew older. These days, she lived for the day’s end and the approach of sunset. She ruffled her snow-white feathers in anticipation as she watched the sun slowly sink beneath the horizon.
When the last remnants of sunlight faded away, a bright glow enveloped the swan’s form. Water splashed up on its own accord and swirled around the swan, and in a shimmer of light, the white feathers melted away to reveal a young woman standing in the pool.
Princess Emma took the silk robe that was waiting for her at the side of the pool and wrapped it around herself as she emerged from the water. For the sake of her privacy, her parents would give her this period of grace after the sun had set. These few minutes of solitude, when she could soak in the twilight and breathe in the fresh night air with her human lungs, were minutes that she treasured.
But she couldn’t stay out there forever. A princess, even one with her affliction, had responsibilities. Especially on this particular night.
Stepping into her slippers, Emma begrudgingly made her way towards the castle, just as her mother came out to greet her.
Snow White was still regarded as the fairest in the land. Even after years had passed since she had become queen, her beauty and grace were untouched. The elaborate gown she wore was encrusted with jewels which shimmered in the night, and it whispered along the floor as she walked towards her.
“Emma!” Snow wrapped her arms around her daughter, squeezing her for a bit too long and a bit too tightly. “How was your day?”
Emma skewed her lips into a pout as she pulled back from the embrace. “Same as any other day.”
Snow’s bright smile didn’t falter, but it did seem to crack in response to her daughter’s dismissive tone. Not to be deterred, she turned back and motioned to someone behind her. A servant stepped forward with a large present in his arms, artfully wrapped and adorned with a bright red bow.
“Well, I know I already told you this in the morning,” she said, and her hopeful expression made Emma feel a twinge of guilt for her curt words. “But happy birthday!”
Emma looked at the gift and could already guess what it contained based on its size and the timing. Her parents had given her a new archer’s bow before the sunrise, meaning this present was something connected to tonight’s festivities. Not wanting to hurt her mother’s feelings any further, she offered a hesitant smile before untying the bow. As she expected, the wrappings revealed a splendid periwinkle gown. One she was likely expected to wear tonight.
Despite the dread that was rising in her gut, Emma plastered an ecstatic grin on her face. “It’s beautiful mama,” she replied, running her fingers along the fine gossamer fabric. “Thank you!”
Emma’s attempt at covering her unease hadn’t been as convincing as she had hoped. Snow was many things, but delusional wasn’t one of them. Taking her daughter’s hands into her own, she gave her most imploring look. Not many could resist the earnest compassion and sweetness of those big green eyes, not even a girl who shared those same eyes.
“I know this isn’t how you wanted to spend your evening,” she said with understanding. “But I hope you can enjoy yourself tonight. There will be dancing and a feast. I’m sure you’ll get more than a few offers to dance.” Snow White beamed while Emma resisted the urge to grimace. “It’ll be fun.”
Emma sighed heavily before swallowing her apprehension. Nodding along to her mother’s assurance, she took the present from the servant’s outstretched arms.
“I’ll try,” Emma promised as she and her mother made their way through the entrance that connected the ballroom to the expansive royal gardens. When she entered, her face was bathed in the warm glow of a thousand candles. She turned to her mother and performed a quick curtsy. “I’ll go get ready.”
Emma made her exit from the resplendent ballroom, where the final preparations for her 17th birthday celebration were being made.
It was a celebration that Emma was not looking forward to in the least.
For her, these balls were events where she would be paraded before a mob of gossiping aristocrats and nobles. Their curiosity would be assuaged when they caught another brief glimpse of their mysterious princess. The sheltered girl never appeared at court or even during the daytime, but when they saw her at the ball, they would know she was still alive and not being held in a tower somewhere.
Queen Snow White and King David did an admirable job of hiding their daughter’s curse from the world, aside from the most trusted servants, guards and some close friends. However, rumours tended to sprout like weeds in spite of best-laid plans.
Whispers had spread throughout the Enchanted Forrest about the Cursed Princess. The heir to the throne, who had been put under a spell when she was a babe. Her step-grandmother Regina, known as the Evil Queen, had exacted her revenge on Snow White by cursing her only daughter to be a beast during the day and a girl at night.
Emma wished those rumours were true. Being a beast would be much more interesting than being stuck as a swan. Maybe that’s why Regina made her a waterfowl. Somehow she knew it would be painfully boring.
“They’ll gawk and stare. I’m sure some might make awkward small talk,” Emma complained, adjusting the sleeves that were patterned with silver roses and vines “‘What have you been up to?’ ‘When will we see you at court?’ ‘Have you been well?’ Not that they care, I think they just want to confirm their theories or dig for more gossip.”
Emma had been laced into her corset and had her long blonde hair pulled back into an elaborate bun, with a few sweeping curls framing her face. A more subtle tiara had been placed on her head since she couldn’t stand wearing a heavy crown of jewels, especially tonight.
“There’s going to be some scheming duke or count or whatever who will try to seduce me. That’s always fun,” she sneered. Potential suitors had been lining up to claim her since she was 13. After all, as heir to the throne and the daughter of the ‘fairest in the land’, she would make a glorious prize. She’d have to endure simpering noblemen of all ages vying for a dance and bragging about themselves in an attempt to enthral her. It would make for an exhausting night. She turned to her baby brother with a wry smirk. “I’m just saying, you’re lucky you’ll be asleep.”
Leo looked up at her from the plush rug where he sat surrounded by toys with his mouth slightly agape. His baby blue eyes were wide and curious and showed that he was completely oblivious to her plight. Emma found her little brother to be a great listener when she needed to vent, which seemed to be all the time. It was helped by the fact that he couldn’t repeat anything she said to their parents, since he only knew how to say ‘mama’, ‘dada’, and occasionally ‘Em’.
Emma was stalling by hanging around her brother’s nursery, wanting to avoid the ballroom full of guests who were awaiting her arrival. But her mother or her father were bound to come looking for her if she made them wait much longer.
“I guess I’ll have to face them sooner or later.” The princess heaved a sigh before offering the little prince a playful smile. She curtsied daintily before plucking her brother from the floor. “May I have this dance?”
Leo babbled happily as she twirled with him in her arms, the layers of shimmering fabric swirling about her heels.
“That’ll be my favourite dance of the night,“ Emma stated as she placed the baby back into his crib.
“Well, I hope that’s not true,” a familiar voice called out behind her. Emma whipped around to see her father standing in the doorway. “The night just started.”
“I was just about to come down, Daddy,” she said hastily, smoothing out her dress.
“It’s alright, sweetheart,” her father laughed, coming up beside the little prince’s crib and tucking the baby in. “I think the princess gets to be fashionably late to her own party. But, we should let Leopold get some sleep.” He straightened and held out extended the crook of his arm for her to take. “Shall we?”
Emma nodded, ducking her head to hide the frown on her face as she looped her arm through her father’s.
“You look beautiful, by the way,” David said as he led her out of the nursery and towards the ballroom. When Emma didn’t give a response, he chose to prod her rather than ignore her melancholy. “You don’t seem very excited.”
That was because she wasn’t. When she was little, she had been so thrilled to attend her first ball. Since it was held after sunset, for once she could actually meet people, instead of being hidden away as she was during the day. But she couldn’t stand the way people stared at her like she was some sort of pitiable wretch or some oddity on display. It didn’t help that everyone was so uptight and two-faced. Someone would be complimenting her one minute before snickering behind her back the next. The parties had become a chore to get out of the way before she could spend her night as she wished.
With Emma’s stubborn silence, her father was prompted to try again. “I know you don’t always like these things, but-“
“Then why do we keep throwing them?” Emma huffed, fed up with pretending to be happy. “It’s my birthday. So, why can’t I celebrate how I want?”
“I understand, Emma,” David said calmly, slowing his stride as they continued their walk. He didn’t want to enter that ballroom without an attempt at lifting his daughter’s spirits. “I didn’t grow up with all these extravagant balls. I’ve never gotten used to all the pomp and circumstance. But I think it’s good for you to go to parties like this. It’s a chance to meet people. To make friends.”
“Friends I would only get to see if there’s a ball,” she grumbled under her breath. “Or if there’s a hunt being held at night for some reason.”
David stopped in his tracks, causing Emma to jolt to a stop as well. He turned so that he faced her head-on, gently placing his hands on her shoulders. Emma met his searching stare with a pout and her arms over her chest, sensing that she had earned a lecture with her comment.
“Emma, I know living with this curse isn’t easy,” he said, his normally light tone shifting into one of earnest solemnity. “Every day, I wish I could find a way to make things better for you. But we can’t just shut you away from everyone while we look for a solution.”
Emma’s gaze shifted to the wall, pointedly avoiding her father’s searching gaze. She knew he was right. As much as she disliked these parties, being hidden away indefinitely like a secret shame would make her feel even more like a freak. At least on a night like tonight, she could pretend she was an ordinary girl. Well, as ordinary as it was to be a princess having a ball thrown in your honour.
“Besides, tonight could give you the answer you’re looking for,” he continued cryptically, causing Emma to scrunch up her nose in confusion when she met his eyes again. “A ball is the perfect place to find your true love.”
An unladylike snort passed through her lips at that statement. The deadpan look she gave her father caused a smile to twitch on his lips. “Somehow, I doubt my true love is down there.”
That particular hope had been extinguished after years of disappointment. Emma had been wishing to find her true love since she was a child. She grew up hearing stories about the unstoppable power of a ‘true love’s kiss’. Before she was born, her father woke her mother from a sleeping curse with that powerful kiss. Emma dreamed that one day she would find the person who who help her break her own curse.
However, love had alluded Emma despite her best efforts to find it. Her parents would describe this instantaneous connection that they developed within a few days, this spark of attraction that ignited a blaze when they saved one another on the troll bridge. Emma never found that connection.
“You’ll never know if you don’t look,” David responded. He offered his arm once more, blue eyes sparkling with amusement in the candlelight. “Maybe someone will surprise you.”
Emma doubted it, but her father’s optimism still brought a grin to her lips. Squaring her shoulders and puffing out her chest, she looped her arm through his again and mentally prepared for a night of misery. “Let’s get this pony show over with.”
David smiled as they marched into the ballroom. “That’s my girl.”

The Runaway Theif
xxx
There were pros and cons to sneaking into an exclusive royal ball.
Pro. There were plenty of unsuspecting wealthy nobles, who would be occupied with the festivities and wine. It made them easy prey for the nimble fingers of a seasoned pickpocket. No one expected to get robbed while rubbing elbows with the monarchs.
Con. Being caught meant being thrown into the stocks or worse. The severity of punishment depended on who caught you. Queen Snow White was widely regarded as kind and just. The worst she would do to a humble thief would be to throw them out of the castle. Other aristocrats would sooner take a hand or a head rather than let a pickpocket get away unscathed.
Pro. The food was mouthwatering and abundant. After living on stolen scraps for the past few days, having access to a royal banquet would be a nice relief for a hungry man’s aching stomach.
At this point, the pros outweighed the cons.
Neal Cassidy was a man of few means, but he was also an opportunist. As difficult as it would be to sneak into a royal ball, the payout would be worth it.
The effort was made simpler by some premeditation. The whole kingdom had been abuzz with the news of Princess Emma’s birthday and the ball that would be thrown in her honour. It was good business for the high-end tailors, as plenty of nobles had money to burn on new dresses and doublets for the event. Posing as a delivery man, Neal managed to get his hands on a nice set of clothes that would be suitable enough to help him blend with the other attendees.
Looking the part of a noble didn’t guarantee his entry, since no one would make it through the front gates without an invitation. So he wouldn’t be entering through the front gates.
Less than four years had passed since he escaped from Neverland, and the skills he had developed in that centuries-long nightmare were still engrained in him. Scaling a castle wall was nothing in comparison to climbing a jagged cliff face with lost boys laughing and hollering from above and below as you tried not to fall to your death. And that had been just a part of Pan’s twisted obstacle race.
After the sun had gone down, and the castle was aglow from within, no one paid mind to the dark shadow crawling its way up the outer walls.
Slipping into the ballroom from a back door in the castle gardens, Neal was taken aback by the sheer splendour around him. The room was lined with large white columns accented with gold. The massive chandelier that hung above glimmered like it was made of diamonds. Noble women in beautiful gowns, being swept across the marble floor by their dance partners.
Neal took a steadying breath, soaking in the opulence that was not meant for lost boys or thieves before he got to work. Sleight of hand was a skill that you had to pick up quickly on the streets of London, in Neverland, and in the slums of the kingdom. With a careful misdirection, you could swipe a diamond ring or a golden broach and the owner would be none the wiser.
The difficult part was not getting carried away and not stealing too many items in such a short amount of time. That was something Neal had trouble with, especially when surrounded by so many stuffy blue bloods covered in jewels that would help keep him fed for a month.
Neal spent the night flattering inflated egos and pocketing treasures that were sure not to be missed in the long run. He was loitering around the buffet and sampling the strange foods that the upper class enjoyed (Who would eat a peacock?) when his eagerness came back to bite him.
“My necklace! It’s fallen off!”
A younger woman whom he had charmed a few minutes ago was shrieking in despair as she felt her bare neck. An older man marched up to her as she panicked, with a dour frown that brought out the wrinkles in his face.
“By gods, Carissa! You would lose your head if it wasn’t attached to your shoulders! Heavens know that would cost me less! Why are you always so careless?!”
“It wasn’t my fault, daddy! The servants here have sticky fingers! One of them must have taken it!”
Neal thumbed the golden string of emeralds in his pocket as he covertly shuffled away from the commotion. He slipped behind a pillar into a hall untouched by the torchlight, meanwhile, the Lord and his daughter continued to bicker and roped some poor servers into searching for the necklace. With the fuss they were kicking up, others were bound to notice that they were also missing jewelry. That would drum up a manhunt and he didn’t want to be around when that happened. Neal kicked himself for not taking more of the ridiculous and abundant food when he had the chance.
He looked frantically for the nearest exit when a blur of golden curls caught his attention.
The din of music and people's voices faded into a quiet hum. After that, he couldn’t look away if he tried.
A girl in a silver gown raced behind another pillar, pressing her back flat against the stone. She was a few yards away from where Neal was pressed against his own pillar, but she didn’t seem to notice him. Her eyes were tightly closed and her chest rose and fell with heaving gasps as if she had been trapped underwater and was now finally coming up for air.
She was young, maybe a few years younger than him. Done up in a silver corseted dress, embroidered with roses that glittered in the dark hall. Her blonde hair was pulled into a bun aside from a few strands that framed her face.
And it was one hell of a face. Neal would swear she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
Neal was transfixed as he watched her entire body seem to sag in relief against the pillar. She released the deepest sigh he had ever witnessed. Extending her neck, she rested the back of her head against the stone pillar and turned her face up to the ceiling. Slowly, her eyes opened and the smallest breath of laughter passed through her lips.
For the first time in a very long time, Neal wished he could sketch. He hadn’t drawn anything in years, but he wanted to capture that feeling on a page. That moment of freedom.
Neal’s breath was caught in his throat when her attention was finally turned towards him. Despite the urge to look down in embarrassment, he continued to stare. The girl peered at him for a brief moment, before pointedly turning her gaze back to the ceiling. She didn’t ignore him for very long, but it felt like hours until her eyes slid back towards him. After a beat, she gave him a glare that seemed to say ‘What the hell are you looking at?’. That was enough to bring Neal’s attention to his shoes.
When he had the nerve to look up at her again, the girl was still staring at him. Neal felt bare beneath the intensity of her eyes, and he wondered if she could tell he didn’t belong there. Or maybe she was just as intrigued by him as he had been by her. Maybe they were both outsiders in this place.
They stood in silence, both watching the other while the bright ball continued at their backs.
The girl kept her eyes on him as she pushed herself from the pillar and started walking towards him. Neal was certain his heart would burst in his chest when she actually reached him. But she never got the chance to get that far. A hand latched onto hers, whirling her around and pulling her attention away from him.
And just like that, the spell he had been under snapped like a string pulled taught.
Some young aristocrat had a smarmy grin on his face and had the girl’s hand pressed to his lips. Neal couldn’t hear what he said, but he could see the muscles in the girl's back becoming tight and her free hand was balled up into a fist. After a brief exchange of words that Neal couldn’t make out, the noble dragged her toward the centre of the ballroom.
She didn’t look back.
Strangely, all the other dancers dispersed as the couple went straight for the centre of the dance floor. The young noble snapped his fingers to get the attention of the musicians and demanded that they play a waltz. The girl looked like she wanted to ram her elbow into his teeth.
“Who is that?” Neal asked aloud as the girl was pulled into a stiff dance. He hadn’t asked anyone in particular, but people in this type of crowd were always eager to impart gossip.
“The young Lord LeGume,” an older woman answered from behind her ornate fan. “A scheming little upstart who thinks he can charm his way into the royal quarters. He’s a scoundrel from what I hear. He deflowered the daughter of the Duke of the Frontlands, but he left the girl pregnant and disgraced. I suppose he has his eyes set on a much bigger prize.”
“What about the girl?” Neal asked the woman. She seemed knowledgeable and loose-tongued enough to give him the answer he actually wanted.
The woman seemed aghast by his question, looking at him as if he had grown another head.
“That is Princess Emma!” She said with her hand pressed to her bosom, shocked by his lack of awareness. “Were you raised out in the woods?”
The princess.
Neal felt his body seize up with mortification. He had been gaping at her like an idiot and had been stupid enough to think they had some sort of kinship. She had probably been marching over to him to slap him or order that he leave the castle or have him thrown in the dungeons for his rudeness.
“Well, it’s not as if she’s ever at court,” a different woman said in his defence. “No one ever has the opportunity to see her, let alone the ability to recognize her.”
“She’s quite a lovely thing,” an older man chimed in, watching as the princess was pulled in close by the Lord Legume. Neal could see her grimace as the young noble’s lips came close to her ear. “I wonder why the king and queen hide her from us.”
“I’ve heard that she’s is quite mad and they can only take her out for occasional outings.”
“Well, I’ve heard she was cursed by the Evil Queen.” The woman beside Neal whispered. “She becomes so hideous under the light of the sun that no one can stand to look at her.”
“Well, I’m sure she’ll make a fine wife all the same,” the older man said, leering at the princess as the hand at her waist began to slide lower. “Plenty would take a mad or cursed princess for a kingdom this great. Besides, there’s no need to see her in the day. A wife’s main purpose is fulfilled in the bedroom after sundown.”
“Reginald! Honestly!”
Neal decided that he had his fill of the gentry for one night. He might as well escape this place while all these vultures were distracted by the princess and her groping suitor.
However, before he could take a single step towards the door, the music screeched to a halt and a collective gasp erupted from the crowd.
The princess had shoved the lord away from her, so hard that he stumbled back several steps. Whatever he had been whispering in her ear, it was enough to have the princess stop the dance before the song had ended. She was gritting her teeth and casting the boy with a livid glare so fierce that he flinched away from it. However, Princess Emma’s ferocity was not enough to stop Lord Legume from putting his foot in his mouth.
“They should keep a thing like you in a cage!” He screeched. “You're practically a rabid animal?”
Apparently, Neal had been right about one thing that night. Princess Emma really had wanted to ram her elbow into the other man’s teeth. There was a heavy thud as she forced the sharp corner of her elbow into Lord LeGume’s face. Blood gushed from his mouth as he fell back to the floor, while the princess rubbed her reddening arm.
In the heavy silence that fell over the ballroom, the sharp laugh that came out of Neal’s mouth seemed to echo.
Princess Emma paid no heed to the nobles, servants, and guards that stared at her in shock. She didn’t even look at the king and queen, who were sitting gobsmacked on their thrones. She simply marched out of the ballroom with her head high, shoving her way past the other guests.
Neal figured this was as good a time as ever to slip from the ballroom unnoticed.

The Serpent in the Garden
xxx
Emma didn’t stop running until she reached the palace gardens. Falling to her knees at the side of her favourite pool, she gathered the gossamer skirts of her gown into her fists. She wanted to rip the dress to shreds or punch more of those snotty sycophants in the teeth. Hot tears burned at the corners of her eyes as a scream of frustration ripped its way through her throat.
“Oh dear. Seems it’s not a very happy birthday to you.”
Emma whipped around to see who had invaded her place of refuge. Her heart jumped in her throat when she saw the lizard-skinned figure that stood behind her. The wide blackened grin and serpentine eyes caused a shiver to crawl up her spine. Emma had only seen him once when she was a child, but she would recognize him anywhere.
“Rumplestiltskin.”

Queen of the Night- My Chemical Romance
Summary: Gerard was fifteen years late to her dawning. She wouldn’t care much if that wasn’t all she heard about every single fucking day, either from the maidens outside the gates, or even the ones whispering in the walls of her palace. Attending dawning ceremonies all over the country and feeling a murder of sympathetic eyes on her had made her bitter and bored. She would spend her days at the hookah clubs in town, head buried between the cream-colored lace-clad thighs of waitresses and unhappily married women, giving them the first and probably the best orgasm of their life before kissing the back of their hand softly, never to be seen again. As a result, Michael, her younger sibling, was always on edge, covering up her mess, wanting to keep the Decree of Dawn far away from their palace. But when two helpers deployed by the Decree, Frank and Ray, are assigned to the Way Manor to conduct their first ever new Dawning on Gerard, things take a heated turn for the worst. Author's note and warnings: minors dni please. vampire femcr. smut. frerard and rikey. maybe ill add pete wentz for fun who knows. enjoy!! idk when ill update but ill try my best <3
The Way Manor, Cynthia.
Epiphyllum Oxypetalum, often known as the Queen of the Night blooms after sunset. Sharp and crisp petals fall apart to reveal a softer, more delicate flower underneath: like a full moon against the midnight sky. It taunts its beauty, proud and angelic, riding its glorious high before the inevitable eclipse of its prime.
Gerard has been pressing these flowers between the pages of her brown leatherback diary since she was five years old. The garden of her father’s palace was lavishly decorated in the spring (he spared no expense). Every spring, these were planted along the edge of the greenery and fifteen minutes past six in the evening, right before supper, Gerard would sneak off in her day gown to watch them bloom, a candle caged between her dainty, pale fingers, as she plucked them off and hit them in the pockets of her gown.
She never told anyone of her habit, however normal it was as a young girl to like flowers at the time, giggling whenever the housekeepers complained about this ‘flower thief.’ It was her secret.
And maybe her father’s too, sometimes. She painted the flowers in detail till rigid paint stains covered her lily white gown; and she would skip over to her father’s chambers, crying out, “Look what I made!”
He ruffled her hair and pressed an adoring kiss to her forehead before he hung the canvas up on the royal blue walls of his study. Once Gerard turned sixteen, her father requested that his deathbed be moved into the study; he wanted her paintings to be his last memory of the earth, he explained, barely able to croak out the sentence as Gerard stood in the corner, quiet staccato sobs seeping into the canvas.
Her trips to the garden shortened over the next few years, her spine stood taller, canvases grew darker, like she invented a new color of melancholy; her sister, Michael, after a few months, called it over emotional with a twinge of blood red and black.
Michael was reserved, not as expressive as Gerard, but not heartless. She didn’t eat for days after the passing of her father, and Gerard had to sit by her bed and take care of her before she got back up on her feet. Michael made fun of Gerard for worrying too much and Gerard then knew she was okay.
When Michael approached dawning, Gerard assumed the role of her guardian. Gerard, older than her and still not having dawned, tried her best to push feelings of being left out and made sure her baby sister was taken care of, now that only housekeepers and maidens roamed the halls.
Michael developed an aversion to sunlight during her first dawning and Gerard installed heavier, more opaque curtains, giving candle shops back in town more business than they had ever seen. Vials of crimson liquid reflecting the candle flames, struck the hottest glare into Michael’s eyes, and Gerard would hear her wail all night before her newfound thirst died for the night. She was safe to be fed then, and only then .
It was all about contro l, their mother’s diary read. Gerard narrated it into melodies and sang them softly over the piano in Michael’s room, noticing the way her sister’s eyebrows moved the slightest in amusement.
“Control your teeth, control your eyes, control your mind before you wilt and die.”
Michael lied when she needed to. When she had to. A lot of the time she felt like the older sibling in the family, a calculated mind outsmarting all others. She knew Gerard had a good soul and that she would never outright admit wishing it was her who dawned earlier.
“Mi, is she just as dramatic as she seems?” Gerard once asked, lifting her fingers momentarily from the black and white keys to face her sister who had her pupils blown wide open.
Michael hesitated for a fraction of a second before wincing out loud, “I am in so much pain, she exaggerated of course, you know how she was.”
The truth was: Michael felt alive for the first time in her life. Sure, she wasn’t being completely dishonest about her pain, but it didn’t exactly sting her after the first hour. Rather, it grew dull and insignificant with every meal. Her blood ran cold, yet she felt like she could breathe for the first time in her life. And she wanted so badly to tell Gerard all about it; she was her best friend after all.
But because she was the only person Michael would ever live, lie, kill, die, do whatever it took for, she stood silent.
Gerard was fifteen years late to her dawning.
Michael often found her smoking in some alleyway, hiding from the flock of women around town looking for her, and her sister would have their carriage escort her back to the palace, throwing judgmental looks at the maroon marks on her neck.
“You know that the Decree is to visit the palace soon, no? What are they going to think about,” Michael pauses, gesturing towards her sister’s neck in disgust, “all of that .”
“Oh, who cares? I have plenty of scarves. I find it hard to believe that the Decree of Cynthia will-”
“It is not them.” Michael stated and looked out the window, her glasses bobbing up and down with the bumps on the road.
“What the fuck do they want? You’re done with your dawning aren’t you? I’m not sharing anything about our decree either, and those women don’t suspect a thing especially because I haven’t dawned.”
“That’s the point, Gerard.” A lull fell over the carriage, nothing to be heard but the click-clacking of horseshoes against the unpaved roads of the town side. Of course , it came back to her dawning, God forbid they ever ever let that go.
Gerard bit the inside of her cheek, “So what? Do they intend to force my dawning? Has that ever even been done before?”
“I’ve heard stories,” Michael commented, deep in thought, “Someone in Camellia was successful, but that is about all I have heard.”
“Did they at least tell you who is coming?” Gerard paused, a glint starring in her eyes, “Are they women?”
“Do not even think about bedding the helpers of the Decree of Dawn.” Gerard had never seen Michael this agitated, except when she caught her crying over her broken cello, as if they couldn’t fill the entire palace with cellos and still have enough money to buy the entire town.
The older woman smiled, soothing the younger’s nerves. That’s how things worked between them. Gerard would get a kick out of making Michael concerned beyond belief, and they would forget about it immediately after.
Losing Michael was the worst thing that could happen, according to Gerard; she was not afraid of much. Her baby sister was her only priority, especially after the rest of their family had passed.
Her romantic life wasn’t worthy of mention; none of her escapades involved love, simply pure bouts of dopamine. For the fairytale-like romance that her parents had, she needed someone like her. Some non-human. Someone who understood her needs: maybe even shared them.
So at night, when loneliness grew like black mold and etched scratches in her heart, and her ribcage tugged so hard that her chest felt like it would burst open, she painted. Herself, her brushes, and some late night smoke-filled affairs. She could not be bothered anymore about her dawning. She already had everything she needed. She was satisfied.
She did not wish for change. Not at all.

Juliet Docks, Camellia
“Frank Iero and Raymond Toro; Way Manor for ten months.” The voice in the atrium echoed and Raymond’s fingers fisted the puffy fabric of Frank’s dress pants, making her hiss in surprise.
Frank’s heart had started beating again (as much as it could for someone of his kind), and she sighed in relief before glancing at her chum with the shiny brown curls and a hopeful grin facing the front of the room. The tie around Frank’s neck felt like a noose before their assignment was announced, and now it hung lower, unbuttoning the first few knobs on her dress shirt in the process.
She leaned into the taller woman’s ear, almost resting her chin on her shoulder, chapped lips ghosting over her neck, “Can we please leave now?”
And they did, the shorter’s wobbly legs hardly making it out of the assignment room as nausea and bile sank lower in her torso.
“Can you believe this? The Way Manor? We must have saved the world in our past lives.” Raymond wondered out loud, arms hooking Frank’s as they walked out of the tent, onto the gravel ridden path lit by the moonlight.
Frank reached behind her ear adorned by a tiny pearl resting atop the lobe and plucked a cigarette out, Raymond lighting it as a reflex. “My stomach has been in knots all day, Ray,” her voice had softened, stopping in her tracks to inhale.
“Frankie, it is less than a year,” Ray stroked her thumb over Frank’s as her gaze tracked the smoker’s movement, “Besides, I will be there with you. We have nothing to fear, right?”
The shorter woman shrugs, clouding her face before clutching the cigarette between her rosy lips, “We have only ever seen a new Dawning once, and Ray…” She trails off, not wanting to say what she wanted to out loud; as if that would make it true.
Ray sighed; she had heard this from Frankie a hundred times before, “You know it won’t be like that, Frankie. That was years ago, and we barely knew anything about them then.”
“I am not sure. I feel a tempest brewing beneath my chest. Like something inevitable is coming.”
“The time of our lives at a palace for ten months and maybe a few bad nights? I cannot wait a single day either.”
Frank giggled at Ray’s complete lack of consideration for her overdriven thoughts and linked arms again, “Do you have to be so happy all the time?”
“You would be lying on your cot covered in bottles of absinthe if it weren’t for me dragging you out of there.”
Frankie drops her head in defeat, making the taller one straighten her back, “Who knows, maybe one of the Ways look exactly like Jacki-”
Frank shot her best friend a desperate look, begging her to stop talking, “She is the reason I signed up for this. I need to take my mind off her, so I would appreciate it if you did not mention my most recent gut wrenching heartbreak that had me draining those jars of absinthe in the first place, thank you very much.”
The two looked around the dock, watching parents bid their children goodbye, hugging and crying into their shoulders as their luggage was thrown onto the boats haphazardly. The raging wind had Camellians clutching their coats and hats, making Frank and Ray seek shelter under a beaten wooden shed. It was going to rain, presumably, the tacky air and petrichor overwhelming their senses.
Frank sipped the last of the stick hanging between her lips before putting the embers out on her tongue and tucking it back behind her ear. Her silence had tipped Ray off to place a soothing touch on the small of her back. She knew Frank better than herself, and Frank was painfully aware of that.
“It will be good for us, Frankie.” Ray reassures the younger one, ruffling her hair before pulling her in by her shoulders, “I know it will.”

I don't know when the next update will be, but I am genuinely looking forward to writing this because it has been a while since I have delved into supernatural concepts. Please comment and let me know if you liked it :) Thanks for reading xx.

*In the Royal Palace of Sunset Savannah*
*The servants talking among themselves.*
Servant A: Prince Leona has a newborn son? That can't be true, right?
Servant B: It is!
Servant A: How can they be sure that the baby is his?
Servant B: I know, right?! It could be anyone's! Knowing MC-
Cheka: HOW DARE YOU!
The servants: P-Prince Cheka! *immediately bows to him*
Cheka: Those rumors were proven to be untrue! And yet, you are still badmouthing them!
The servants: P-Please forgive us, Prince Cheka!
Cheka: *is still feeling angry at the servants*
Cheka's mother: *has arrived, tapping her son's shoulder* Calm down, Cheka.
Cheka: But!
Cheka's mother: Let me handle this myself. Your father is waiting for you. You shouldn't be late.
Cheka: *nods* *then takes his leave*
The servants: *trembling in fear*
Cheka's mother: How dare you insult someone who is not here?
The servants: Y-Your Highness!
Cheka's mother: *is more furious than Cheka* How could I listen to every rumor you had spread about them?
Falena: Cheka, where is your mother?
Cheka: She's teaching those rude servants a lesson!
Falena: *sigh* Well, have you heard about the news? *smiles, brightening the mood*
Falena: Your Unca and MC have a baby.
Cheka: Yes! Papa, Papa! You have the picture of my baby cousin, right? What is his name?! What does he look like?!
Falena: Now, now. Calm down, Cheka. *chuckles*
Falena: Here. Your Unca sent it this morning. *showing him the photo of Baby Liora*
Cheka: Wha~! HE LOOKS LIKE UNCA!
Falena: *chuckles* You could definitely see the resemblance.
Cheka: Papa! When can we visit him?
Falena: Well... We still need to wait for MC's permission to see him.
Falena: For now, we need to register Liora under the royal family's name.
Cheka: Hm! And! Can I arrange a room for Lili?
Falena: *chuckles* *liking the fact that Cheka has already a nickname for his baby cousin*
Falena: Of course.
*Back in Al Asim's estate*
Leona: *holding his baby*
Baby Liora: *cute baby noises*
Leona: *glances at MC who's reading a book about child-rearing while preparing Liora's feeding bottle*
MC: I will pluck your eyeballs.
Leona: Tch. I'm not looking.
Baby Liora: *his small ears twitching* *then cries*
Leona: Looks like he's hungry.
MC: Give him to me.
Leona: *obediently follows*
MC: *starts feeding Liora*
Leona: *watches*
Leona: He's drinking it fast.
MC: Hm.
*Kalim and Jamil eavesdropping.*
Kalim: They're getting along!
Jamil: Kalim, keep your voice down, or Leona will hear us.
Leona: *ends up staring at MC*
Leona: ...
Leona: Won't you come back to me?
MC: ...
MC: *shoots a string of fire that almost reaches his nose*
Leona: !!!
MC: I haven't forgiven you.
Kalim: Aww...
Jamil: You jinxed it.

🌸 to offer my muse a flower. -- From Miles, of course!
'your affection' prompts . accepting
The courtesan closed the doors to her home with a heavy sigh - as much as Melissa had been used to carrying that name and identity everywhere, it was still a burden to bear. To exploit the tragic destiny of her own country for survival was not something she was proud of - but nor did the woman carry any guilt for simply doing what she had to endure.
And now that she was the rightful owner - as the imperial law dictated - of Miles, things had become even more muddled in her heart. It had been easier when he had been just another soul with a horrifying past and enslaved against his will, as many other bearers. But knowing that he was the man who she once owed loyalty and respect to?
It was difficult to reconcile her lifestyle and the true spirit of a Rosarian; even if Elwin had told his mistress directly that he held her accountable for nothing after the fall of the grand duchy, Melissa found it something hard to swallow. The courtesan - she was unworthy of his kindness. Lilian had created 'Melissa', mocked her ancestry and heritage to make some gil out of it, and all the material comforts surrounding them felt rotten.
The brunette was not the paragon of kindness her employees saw her to be - it was all to soothe a guilt conscience and nothing more.
It was with such thoughts that Melissa eventually moved from the hall to her room - the pain hiding in honeyed eyes dulled the overall splendor of her attire and jewelry; as if the radiating sun of a warmer land she was supposed to emulate had been dimmed. It was, however, temporary - as soon as Melissa entered her chambers and saw something on her vanity, the woman's entire disposition changed.
A bouquet - something so ordinary and so simple, even frequently earned from clients and admirers. But while most of them were made out of wyvern tails or other typical imperial blooms, that was a different kind: it was made out of roses, and of a very peculiar color at that. They had always reminded the young Lily, as a noblewoman visiting Rosalith on occasion, of the flames of their most important and prized eikon: the Phoenix.
It was as if the petals had been dipped into a beautiful sunset - and Melissa couldn't resist pulling it up, delicately touching the roses and inhaling their fragrance. Sweet, memorable - like home. The courtesan had almost forgotten that smell, and yet a whiff was all it took to transport her to years and years before, when her current identity was not a reality and the Rosarian banner was still hanging from her parents' estate.
A tiny piece of paper was attached to the blooms - the calligraphy was one she had learned to recognize from other documents, but for once it was not from any household administration materials but rather a personal note to her. A simple 'from Miles' was included there, and a blush crept to the woman's cheeks upon realizing she had needed that visual aid to come to the obvious conclusion.
Of course these had been from him - who else missed Rosaria as much as she did, if not even more?
Picking up the flowers, Melissa moved from room to room - looking not only for a suitable vase for them, but also for their sender. Unsurprisingly, the courtesan found the royal-turned-bearer in his chamber, reading something - however Miles paused when her figure hovered at the entrance, noticing the lady of the house immediately. For a moment - neither of them said a word; their eyes did the talking.
It was the woman who broke the spell - as she had done before, by pushing him into walls or discarding all the protocol which had been owed to one of higher station and hierarchy. Melissa walked up to his bed, took a seat by his side and then carefully closed the distance between them - managing the flowers at all times, afraid to crush them due to the anxiety flowing in her veins alongside guilt, desire and affection.
The kiss was placed against the former archduke's cheek - dangerously close to the edge of his lips, but not yet there. Miles perhaps could hear and feel it all: the drumming of her heart, the heat of Melissa's skin and the excitement that made her act so boldly, even if there was still remorse weighing her back, akin to an anchor.
"Thank you for these," the courtesan murmured, pulling apart but barely so; enough only to look at him, "Thank you for soothing some of the pain, Elwin."

Clara Cristalería
Claras homeland is called the Kingdom of Cinders. She was born to a very old and powerful fae family. Her grandmother was particularly loved by the royal family due to her being the godmother of one of their ancestors. The story remains very famous in Twisted Wonderland.
The particular type of fae her family is, are called Godmothers. They are all born female and their magic is used primarily to help those in need. Though it is not the only type of magic they use, Godmother's are very adept at all sorts of transformation magic.
Claras grandmother founded a school with the intention of girls of all walks of life. Most arcane academys at the time were only available to royalty and the extremely wealthy. Claras grandmother had opened the doors to anyone who could do magic and wanted to learn. She named it The White Ash Institute.
The school was housed in the families ancestral home. A shining silvery castle with a grand clocktower. The town it's in is across the bay from the isle of sages.
Claras mother is a bit of a free spirit and went from place to place to do her godmother work and help those in need. It was in period where they were living in Briar Valley was when Clara met Lilia. They remain friends to this day and Clara is very fond of Silver, and always tells him if he needs a fairy godmother, she'll be there when he calls.
Clara had known all her life that she wanted to be the Headmage of White Ash some day. For a while she was the magical history professor and the second in command. When her grandmother finally retired after many centuries of running the school, her position and wand were left to Clara and she was officially the new Headmage. This was almost 200 years ago.
Despite her grandmother always being kind and supportive, Clara constantly reminded herself of the big shoes she had to fill. In Claras mind nothing ever felt like it would amount to the world of good her grandmother had done. So she is constantly pushing to better with her Magic and how she runs the school.
Claras work and life balance is non-existent. She's a workaholic with very little interest in anything that does not directly involve the school. Her mother likes to pop in now and then to remind her daughter to breath and take a break.
Sometimes Clara focuses so much on everything else that she forgets small things. Like looking everywhere for a pen that was tucked behind her ear the whole time.
It's tradition at the annual Midnight Ball that the Headmages have the first dance. Her grandmother started this with the headmages of old who were her good friends and never stopped. Clara refuses to break tradition, even if she can't stand Crowley, she can grin and bear it for one song.
Clara easily looses track of time. She has an ungodly amount of alarms on her phone to keep her on schedule.
She has a ward of her own. A first year girl named Lily who was raised in the wilds of the Sunset Savanna. Lily's family situation is a bit... complicated. So Clara is her acting guardian while she is in school. She likes to take Lily on all sorts of trips during school breaks so she can experience different things. This past winter break they went to a Ski lodge in the Shaftlands with Claras mother.
One of her guilty pleasures is talking to Lilia about whatever is going on at each other's schools. Clara is always shocked at the the nonsense that happens over there.
If Yuu happens to be a girl and Clara found out (probably from Lilia) she would offer to take over as her guardian without hesitation. She has very little faith in Crowley.
