in season six when zari says “he is priceless” about behrad, she is in that moment revealing that she not only believes behrad to be more valuable than she is, she actually believes him to be overall better than her entirely, because he is a person and she is a net value.
it’s twofold- she’s telling zari tomaz that behrad is better than she, zari tarazi, is, but she’s also revealing that she believes herself to be the “bad” reality, just as businessman behrad was. when she sees this warped version of behrad, this absolutely a-hole, the obvious 1-to-1 comparison for her to make is that zari tomaz is the heroic, good behrad that she had to fight for, and that she, zari tarazi, is the vain and shallow and selfish businessman behrad.
we get so many interesting peeks into the inferiority complex that zari tarazi has that’s followed her for her entire life, and that is only amplified by finding out about and then meeting zari tomaz- we also get glimpses in zari tomaz having this SAME complex for different reasons (namely, her behrad being killed) in seasons 3 & 4, and somewhat in season 7.
it’s literally eating both zaris alive this entire show, this dread and depression that lingers behind them, that doesn’t seem to quite touch them but could- and it drives me fucking crazy because for zari tarazi, she has more vocal support from her friends that encourages her and tells her she’s good, but it also tells her to be fundamentally different, unless they need her to be the same for a mission or “to save the world” and it’s like they never understood that she was hurting at all - actually this doesn’t apply to john and behrad and sometimes nate, but to everyone else- and it’s never addressed how she feels like she went from being one kind of a commodity to another, how she feels like she fills a niche because this team must have a zari but she never quite feels like the right fit.
and to make me doubly insane, no one but amaya really addresses this with zari tomaz. we could’ve seen a bit more of it with charlie- and i’m not denying that nate was REALLY good for zari 1.0! if anything, i’m frustrated that he never helped her dig as deep as she needed to, that he was cut off at the knees in terms of supporting her and then it’s just okay live in the totem with me! we’ll be happy in there!
legends only hinted at this but i cannot stress it enough- it is so crucial for everyone to recognize that zari tomaz’s behrad (behrad tomaz) is still dead. the behrad from her reality doesn’t exist because she changed the timeline. she is assigning all of her grief onto a behrad that prefers the other zari to her because that is his sister- he understands on some level that zari tomaz changed the world for him and that she is his family, of course, but their relationship was always so weirdly strained and we never dove deeper into that???
every time the zaris made progress, every time they started reaching a healthy place for themselves, the narrative not only set them back enormously but acted as if that setback was good, as if it was needed, that it would be selfish for the zaris to not continue to wallow in misery for the greater good. that their happiness, their literal mental health, was a luxury that they just couldn’t have- and this was treated like a joke! like a bit! are you fucking kidding me??
like if you didn’t find robot zari choosing her own agenda to be the most exhilarating, very twisted in how it was empowering thing, then we have nothing to discuss. and i mean that

Gone. {Outcast excerpt)
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Reuben felt numb as he made it to his room, closing the door behind him before slumping against it on the floor.
She's gone, she's gone, she's gone...
Karina… he’d never see her again.
It was all gone. Over. And he was left feeling like an empty shell of what used to be a man so completely consumed by keeping her safe.
But she'd died anyways. And he couldn't save her.
Tears stung his eyes and blurred his vision. Throat too tight to breathe. He couldn't think as his body felt like it was freezing and on fire and numb af the same time.
His little girl... his baby, never again would he turn around and smile at her presence.
An image flashed in his mind; a baby with big blue eyes, reaching her little hand up to him as she laid in the crook of his arm, a warmth that was only a fathers undying love blossomed in his chest and seemed to spill out of his smile to her.
It flashed again and this time she was months older, his fingers tightly interlocked with her miniature hands as she wobbled out a few steps, giggling through her mouth of three teeth.
Her wobbling steps became a toddlers run, her little blue sundress catching wind with her wavy chocolate locks as she ran with a hand full of wildflowers straight to him, and he scooped her up into his arms.
He saw her covered in paint, a missing tooth and a huge smile as she held up her newest creation, flashing again to become a preteen sitting next to him with a guitar over her legs as he held her hands where they were meant to go.
Then she was a teen, blossoming with womanly beauty and taking a tight hug before waving to him from the side of a vehicle.
Then the girl he knew—a ray of Angellic light and sapphire eyes, but no tears. No pain. No scars. Just her captivating smile and she was standing beside Nathan, a baby in her arms that she passed to him, and he stared down into the eyes of a child from the one he'd raised.
Raised forever.
Like she'd never been taken from me.
His breath hitched violently. Taken when?
She's gone.
His body couldn't even move, crippled by the weight of it all. And it felt like sitting in an endless chasm where only dark surrounded, no light. No love. No purpose.
No point in going on.
Before he realized, his feet were moving at that thought. Stiff, trembling steps as he repeated it again and again.
There's no point.
When Sira and Zari had been killed he hadn't wanted to go on then, but feeling Karina's soul desperate for him in some other reality had kept him from ending it all.
Now it was truly all empty.
Dried up and barren with nothing left but a broken, shredded soul and a heart that was nothing more than ashes on the wind.
So he took the hand gun from the drawer, and readied it. Hands shaking as he lifted it slowly up.
At least if he was good enough, he'd see her on the other side.
Just one pull... one pull and it's over. One pull. His finger twitched to tighten around the one thing that would change it all, the one mechanism that would twist fate—
Two soft-yet-urgent knocks came from the door, making him pause for only a breath.
"Reuben?" Ash's voice was thick with emotion. "Reuben... it's Karina... she's—she's alive."
He met eyes with himself in the mirror, some dark and hollow thing inside told him not to believe it, that it was just a fools hope to change reality, but a tiny glowing ember deep in his core tried to relight, hearing those two words.
"Reuben, she's alive." Ash said again.
He slowly set the gun down, shaking so hard as the tears kept flowing.
The next few moments were robotic, driven on that last spark of hope inside to open the door and face his friend, then confirm if the two words he'd said were true.

just watched legends of tomorrow 7.08. i was RIGHT oh my gosh. the show really is finally confronting how inherently reactionary the legends’ mission is, and how that clashes with who they are as people. we love to see it. this episode reminded me a bit of the ds9 mirrorverse episodes, in that they give the regular actors a chance to play their characters differently and be a bit silly. it was so fun seeing nate being stupid, spooner & behrad being jerks, zari & astra being haughty, and ava being sadistic and scary. also alien gary haha. sara starts out very over-the-top dramatic and harsh, but as the episode goes on she becomes more and more like our sara which i think was a really good acting/direction choice. and it makes it even more effective when we see she’s been reverted to callous assassin sara at the end
this episode examines so many elements of the show’s past. most obviously it’s making fun of the first season and the whole “sometimes we need to actively or passively cause bad things to happen for the good of the timeline” ethos that rip hunter originally established there. but it’s also looking at the conflict between sara and ava in seasons 3 and 4 and how their fundamentally different values caused them to clash. i think it’s also fair to say that it’s taking inspiration from the season 5 focus on destiny and the season 6 themes of identity and empathy. so like although the episode features versions of the characters that are wholly new to us, the story itself is very rooted in what the show is about. the episode really is grappling with what this show was at the beginning and what it is now, and how some of the founding premises of the show are no longer compatible with what the show has become. specifically the “end justifies the means” attitude regarding protecting the timeline and the depiction of the legends as superheroes (as in, superior beings).
the episode shows us what we already know, which is that preserving the timeline requires a callousness toward human suffering that the legends are incapable of based on who they are as people. in making the android legends tools for evil gideon to carry out her mission of timeline preservation, she strips away what makes the legends who they are - their empathy, their kindness, their creativity, their affection for each other - until they are nothing but flat caricatures of themselves. the android metaphor also gets at the roboticness of gideon’s mission. every mission is the same: violence and murder to protect the status quo. the androids may look like people, but they operate like robots, performing the same exact task over and over and over again as they’re ordered. there is no ability to dream of something better, no room for possibility or uncertainty.
i’m really excited to see where this storyline goes, because it gets at an aspect of the show that has irritated me for a long time and that i never thought the show would actually address. i feel like each episode this season is giving me something i never would have expected, which i guess is kind of this show’s brand, and i am loving it so much.

Stolen Hope - Also on Ao3
Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow (TV 2012) Rating: Gen Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Sara Lance/Ava Sharpe Characters: Ava Sharpe, Sara Lance, Team Legends Additional Tags: Season 3, Crack, A little bit of hurt Summary: If she's lucky, the Legends won't notice her, but when has Ava ever been lucky.
Ava hears them before she sees them. Sara, Nate, and she guesses a miniaturized Ray enter into the museum atrium outside the Hope Diamond exhibit wearing the most absurd fashion. Nate is wearing a black t-shirt that is both too tight and with sleeves too small, while Sara is wearing a bright blue suit jacket, complete with shoulder pads and teased hair that Ava is pretty sure she’s the only one that can pull off. They can make fun of her pantsuit all they want, but at least it is discreet.
Any idiot could spot them in a ten mile radius.
Her eyes narrow when Sara spots her, a manic grin on her face as she waves goodbye to Nate and strides over next to Ava.
“If it isn’t my lovely fiancee.” Sara calls a little too loudly.
“Shut up,” Ava hisses out, “What are you doing here? And we are not fiancees. We can’t even be married in this time period.” Can’t she have a little bit of respect for the timeline? Did she forget she traveled to 1989?
Sara clutches her chest, “You wound me. You accept my marriage proposal and then try to deny it ever happened.”
“Do you want to create another anachronism?”
“Oh relax, people will just think we’re joking. No one pays attention to anyone else.”
Ava huffs, “And why are you here?”
“Did you fall down a couple flights of stairs recently? Obviously we followed the anachronism here.”
“But why this one?” Ava hates the whine in her voice.
“I thought you’d miss me,” Sara grins. “Don’t want my fiancee running off.”
“You’re impossible.”
“But, I can be impossibly in love with you.” Sara says and then flushes red, “I mean, we can work together on this one since we’re both here.”
“Fine.” Ava grits out, “Only because I don’t want you and your team completely screwing this up. This is an extremely delicate situation.”
“It’s only a level 3,” Sara bristles.
“The anachronism is from the future, we have limited information on what capabilities they possess, the only known is that they possess a gas that knocks people out, and in some cases kills them.” The anachronism had only registered because the only one killed had been some random actor who was still a child.
“We’ll be good,” Sara promises.
Ava had her doubts, “Where’s the rest of your team?”
“Amaya and Zari are on the ship,” Sara confirms, “Firestorm is working security, Mick is lingering around the entrance, and Ray and Nate are trailing Hayden.”
“Hayden?”
“The actor that dies?” Sara frowns.
“Right,” Ava nods. “That guy.”
“Are you sure you didn’t fall down some stairs?” Sara takes a step closer to her and Ava feels her face flush.
“I’m fine,” she insists.
“You didn’t read the target’s name?”
Ava scoffs, “Like you guys read, you just have the robot tell you everything.” And so what if she’d skimmed past the actor’s name, it wasn’t like that was really relevant. It was obviously a random attack.
“AI,” Sara corrects, “And it’s name is Gideon.”
“Whatever.”
“This is why she doesn’t like you,” Sara says, “I know you know her name.”
“Gideon.” Ava repeats as she rolls her eyes. “Happy?”
“No-” The rest of Sara’s retort was cut off by what Ava figured was someone talking through the comms. “Thanks Jax. Stay in position and let me know if there’s anyone else weird. Mick, trail him.”
“What?” Ava bumps her, “What are they saying?”
Sara’s eyes dance, “Hmmm.”
“Lance,” She bit out.
“It’s Captain.”
“Captain Lance, what did your team say?”
Sara smirks at her, eyes dancing across Ava’s face, “Suspicious person just entered the museum, Jax and Stein tagged them during the security check. Mick’s following and Nate will meet up with him.”
There’s a maintenance hallway through that door,” Ava nods towards the white door just to the left of them.
“Okay, so lead them there. I’ll follow your lead.” Sara relays their plan over the comms.
“Come here,” Sara then drags her against the wall.
“What are you doing?” Ava hisses.
Sara rolls her eyes, “We need to get into position. And look inconspicuous.”
“Oh right, two women, it’s totally inconspicuous in this time period.”
“Ava, gay women have existed forever and it’s 1989 in Vancouver Canada, we’re not exactly in Salem. And, no one is going to be paying attention to us. Which is the point.”
Sara adjusts Ava’s hands so one was just above her butt and the other was wrapped around Sara’s shoulders. “Now, act like you enjoy spending time with me.”
“I’m not a professional actor, Lance.”
“Ha ha,” Sara deadpans.
Sara’s body presses into hers, fitting smoothly despite their height difference, and Ava feels her face burn. It wasn’t hard at all to stare into Sara’s bright blue eyes and pull Sara into her.
“The man will be here soon.” Sara whispers into her ear, hot breath cascading a shiver down Ava’s spine.
Sara leans back, and Ava sees her eyes dip down her face. She absentmindedly licks her lips. Her wrist buzzes and Ava slams her head against the wall.
“He’s here.” She mutters.
“Where?”
Ava glances at her Time Courier, the readout displaying the presence of future tech in the direction of a man with a bulky backpack and bizarre looking sunglasses. “There.”
Sara nods first at her, and then at Nate who was hovering in the hallway that leads away from the Diamond. The man took two more steps forward and Sara spun.
In one moment, Sara was leaning up against her, and then next she was twirling towards the man and putting him in a headlock. Ava barely has time to open the door and Sara shoves the anachronism inside. Ava lets the doors shut behind them.
“The fuck?!” A man’s voice sounds.
“It’s over,” Sara says. “Come quietly and you won’t get hurt.”
He kicks out, a leg connecting with Sara’s knee and she releases him with a forced whimper. Ava reaches out to grab him, when he pressed a button on the side of his glasses. A metal mask slides down and covers his face, and he points his fist at Sara.
A cloud of white gas hisses out, and Sara falls to her knees, holding her neck as she begins choking. Ava comes on the other side and punches his jaw. The mask crumples like foil and he drops his hand. Immediately, the gas stops and he runs, sliding underneath Ava’s attempts to grab him and races out the hall.
Ava catches Sara as she falls face forward, and turns her over. Her skin is rapidly paling and her breathing is raspy and hollow as one of her hands claws at her throat. Ava places her hand on her chest, and after a moment feels the dull thud of Sara’s heart. Each beat gets progressively slower.
“Fuck,” Ava mutters.
Ava picks a twitching Sara up, noticing for the first time the museum alarm was blaring. The man had disappeared. Ava peers through the doors, and nods for Nate.
“She’s out cold,” Ava says as he runs over, “We need to get her back to your ship. The suspect-”
“Ray’s tailing him, he got the diamond.”
“What?!”
“Um, yeah, not important, let’s go.”
Not important? Ava held back the urge to yell at him, because they need to get out of there. “Let’s go through here,” Ava says, nodding at the maintenance hallway. The atrium was quickly filling with security guards.
“Let’s go.”
Ava hardly remembered getting back to the Waverider, but suddenly she was standing next to Sara as Professor Stein hooks her up to the medical bay.
“How’s it look, Gideon?” Jax asks.
“The gas is shutting down her lungs,” Gideon comments, “I am counteracting that and will push it out of her system.”
Everyone nods with an air of relief.
“That’s it?” Ava asks as she stares at the screens on the wall. She wasn’t sure where she was supposed to look to address Gideon.
“That’s it, Agent Sharpe,” Professor Stein says sharply.
Ava bit back a huff, “Alright, understood.” Sara looks so small where she rests in the chair illuminated by a faint, blue light. The twitching had stopped when she’d first been strapped into Gideon’s system and now her chest slowly rose and fell.
“Ray’s trailing the guy,” Nate says, “He’ll come back once he knows where the guy’s holed up.”
“Good.” Ava mutters, “We won’t be able to memory flash everyone who was at the museum, but once we get the diamond back we can replace it.” Everyone but Mick nodded, “And then the museum can scramble for an explanation.”
“Is that okay?” Zari asks, “Aren’t we supposed to fix it?”
Ava sighs, “We lost the chance for precision. The museum can take care of the fallout.”
“Sounds good.” Amaya says.
“Now what?” Mick grunts.
“We wait for Ray to return.” Ava answers. Mick nods and exits the med bay followed by Amaya and Zari.
The screen above Sara starts to rapidly beep. “Gideon?! What’s happening?” Professor Stein commands.
“Captain Lance’s heart accelerated as I purged the last of the toxin from her system.” Gideon answers. The beeping stopped.
“Is she alright?” Jax asks, a touch of panic in his voice.
Sara’s eyes twitched open and everyone held their breath, “Aww, did you guys miss me?”
“You know we can’t do this without you, Captain.” Professor Stein’s hand fell away from his heart.
“Captain Lance, the toxin is purged from your system.” Gideon announces.
Sara grins at Professor Stein. She still looks a little pale as her eyes roam the small crowd that was in the medbay. She frowns, “Ava, you’re still here?”
“Your fiancee was just organizing us.” Jax adds.
Ava froze as every eye trunks to her, “Glad you didn’t die.” She settles on.
Sara shoos the rest of the Legends away from the medbay, “Me too.”
“The anachronism got away but I damaged the mask he was using. I don’t think he’ll use the gas again, but we should be careful.”
“We?” Sara repeats.
“Well, I, um,” Ava sputters.
“You can go back to the Bureau, we have this handled.” Sara says, fiddling with the chunky wrist strap, “I’m fine, Gideon said so. No more toxin.”
“But-”
“Go.”
Ava’s jaw clenches, “Goodbye.” And with a snap of her wrist opens a portal.
She paces around her office as she checks the anachronism map again and again. It was now a level five, but hadn’t changed since she’d arrived. The Legends hadn’t blown up anything.
Yet.
“Ava, hi,” Gary pokes his head in, “You seem really tense, can I get you anything? Coffee? Juice? Water? A massage?”
“No!” Ava yells at him, “I’m fine!”
He quivers back, “Okay, sorry.”
Ava massages her temples. “Wait, Gary, sorry.” She sighs. “You know the Legends, they just make me so, ugh-”
Gary nods, “angry.”
“What?” Ava frowns, “No. They can never do anything cleanly! Did you know they were at my anachronism today?! Sara gets hurt and then kicks me out of the mission!”
“She can do that?”
“No,” Ava grit her teeth, “I just let her do that! How could I? That undermines everything the Bureau stands for!” She fiddles with her Time Courier, ready to open a portal back onto the Waverider, and takes a deep breath.
No, she wasn’t going to go crawling back to Sara fucking Lance.
The anachronism map beeps and Ava races over to, cursing to herself when it is just a notification about a situation in Japan.
“You know,” Gary says, “I have some paperwork I forgot to complete.”
He backs out of her office.
“Okay, fine Gary.” She restarts her pacing.
The door opened again not long after.
“What is it Gary?” Ava grumbles.
“Do I look like Gary?” Sara laughs.
Ava whirls around and frowns, “Who let you in here?”
“Gary.” Sara smiles as she rounds Ava’s desk and takes a seat in her chair. “Comfy.”
“What do you want?” Ava asks, fingers itching as Sara picks up one of Ava’s pens and begins to twirl it around her fingers.
“I was going to ask if you wanted to join us on our mission? Ray’s back with the ananchronism’s hiding spot.”
“Are you allowed to go out?” Ava asks.
“Why do you care?”
“I’m not having someone die on my watch due to medical negligence.”
“I’m fine,” Sara says, eyes rounded, “Gideon gave me the all clear.”
Ava frowns, that wasn’t convincing at all. “Fine, I’ll come.”
If she didn’t then the Legends might end up killing their Captain.
“Excellent,” Sara grins and pulls Ava over. She grabs the wrist with the Time Courier.
“Hey!”
A portal is already opening and Sara motions in front of her as if to say, ‘after you.’ Ava bites down a growl and walks through.
It leads to a dusty warehouse, with fading sunlight barely illuminating it. The rest of the Legends crouch against some rotting wood and tarps.
“She came.” Mick grunts out. “You owe me twenty bucks.”
“Later,” Jax hisses.
“Alright Legends, let’s get hope back.” Sara says.
“Ugh,” Zari says next to Ray, “That was terrible.”
Nate grimaces next to Ava, “He’s in that room.” He points at what Ava could only assume used to be a breakroom.
Sara nods at Jax, already merged with Stein, to stand next to the door. “I’ve got your back fiancee.”
Ava doesn’t mean to yell, “I am NOT your fiancee!”
There is a beat of silence.
Whoops.
The door bursts open, the man holding a gun and his arm up. The mask is still extended down his face, but there’s a stripe of duct tape where Ava cracked it.
“Great.” Sara sighs.
“Sorry.” Ava mutters, though it was doubtful anyone heard her as gun fire peppers through the air.
The group ducks down, as Mick and Jax return fire. Ray takes off flying and adds some barrages of his own. Ava peeks out, as the man swung his gun up to try and hit Ray, and sees that he was beginning to fill the room with the white gas.
“He’s risking the gas.” She says to Sara.
Sara nods, “Firestorm, fly up with Ray, continue firing.”
Ava and her creep around to cover his exist, and with two well placed volleys, Firestorm and Ray had him on the ground. Ava races over and secures him, pulling out the Time Bureau issued handcuffs and handing them to Sara. She clanks them on without ceremony.
“Um, good work Legends.” Ava says.
“Did she just say good work?” Nate mutters.
“Always happy to provide our services,” Sara says with a smirk.
Ava drags the man up by his collar and nods as Sara pulls out the Hope Diamond from his backpack. “I’ll take him back, you can return that,” She gives Mick a hard look and then salutes them, opening a portal to the Time Bureau as she turns.
The portal snapped closed behind her. A salute? Ava groans to herself and shoves the man towards the holding cells.
“Are you against marriage?” The man asks.
“What?”
“You hated being called a fiancee-”
“Oh shut up!” Ava says as she passes him off to another agent and memory flashes him.
Please, she prays, let the Legends never show up at one of her anachronisms again.

untitled ficlet #278
a/n: that deleted behrastra scene made me wanna go back n revamp a fic i wrote after 7x11 aired so.. i did.
“She may have been an evil robot, but that other you did have some style.”
Astra ran her hands through the ruby red wig again, trying to get it just right. “Should I be happy Gary threw her into Hell before I could be jealous?”
“Oh, no way,” Behrad said. “I think I’ll stick with the classic Astra.”
Even though she hadn’t expected a different answer, she still couldn’t help but smile at that. The mirror in front of her didn’t conceal that from Behrad, still sitting in his robo-self’s outfit as he waited for her to get ready. Zari had apparently gotten too much of their PDA earlier and was downstairs doing God knows what.
She didn’t mind that much with the privacy it gave them, though. Ever since their almost-kiss that Spooner had walked in on after the Cursed Crew, a moment for the two of them was hard to come across. Maybe when they had the ship back, they could worry about that.
But for now, she asked, “So, if robo-you was a gun-totting murderer, what’s robo-me like?”
“I really only saw her when she tried to take me to get upgraded, but she was this uber serious, no-nonsense kind of gal,” he answered.
“And that she was hot,” Astra teased.
“Yeah, but you’re way hotter,” Behrad said, before his eyes widened and he added, “And not an evil robot clone, obviously.”
She turned around and leaned against the dresser. “I didn’t expect you to be so into this kind of look,” she said.
He got up and walked towards her. "Maybe it's just that... cherry red thigh-high stiletto boots look especially good on you."
"I won’t argue with that." Astra straightened up and brushed her shoulder against his as she walked by, turning around to give him a grin. "Just try not to get too distracted when we're on the ship."
"No promises," Behrad told her.
Yeah, she was looking forward to getting the ship back, and not just so they could get back home.

dfkgjhdkjfghjkdg evil!Gideon detects an OUTSIDE INFLUENCE in the timeline that keeps putting Charlie and OG Zari in situations where There Was Only One Bed and decides to intervene. You know, for the sake of the timeline. 100%.

citrus and spice
Tumblr media
[Image ID: an image of a woman with brown skin looking up, cut so that you can see her neck and top of her shoulders, colorized purple and with the words citrus and spice over it.] (Image Source: a Russian news site? I found it on Pinterest and there’s no reverse image search from before then.)
Pairing: Zava 2.0 (Zari Tarazi/Ava)
Rating: M for non-explicit sexual content (minors DNI).
Word Count: 2606.
Summary: Zari and Android Zari each trying to convince Ava that they’re the real Zari, can’t they tell how much they each like Ava? Requested by @hizzieluthor.
Warnings: Infidelity, non-traumatic flashbacks.
Created For: @lgbtqbingo, filling out the free space and @badbitchesbingo, filling out the “friends to lovers” square.
Read on AO3 here (links to chapter 2, chapter 1 is unconnected) or below the cut.
Ava's in the room she and Sara have claimed as theirs in John's mansion, going over her mental lists for the mission, when she hears yelling and grunting for downstairs. It doesn't make sense, since she's the only one in the mansion, except maybe the person she's waiting for--
Did she get caught up, somehow?
She runs downstairs to see something that probably shouldn't be surprising, but is: two Zaris, dressed identically, slapping each other in a comically-ineffective fight. "What--stop!"
Both the Zaris do, looking up at Ava with the same adoring expression. Like, exactly the same. She looks back and forth between them, trying to figure out which is which, and just...can't see any clues. It doesn't help that their silence only lasts for a second before they start interrupting themselves and each other.
"I'm the real Zari, she's the robot!"
"What? I would never wear these cargo pants if you hadn't made it necessary! I'm the real Zari!"
"Please, you think I'd do this makeup?"
Ava still can't figure it out as they continue arguing, and one of them turns to Ava with a pleading expression. "Look, I'm the real Zari. I'll prove it. Do you remember when you walked in on me naked?"
God, okay, they're doing this trope then.

A few days after the clusterfuck with Marie Antoinette's perfume, Ava's walking through the Waverider to talk to Zari about if she'd like to join them for the movie night they're planning this weekend. The room Zari's staying in used to be storage, so it's just habit that has her walking in without knocking, not an excuse but still--
She freezes when she sees Zari, standing in front of a mirror and wearing not a stitch of clothing. Zari notices her right away, but she doesn't seem mad, smirking when she notices where Ava's looking. This is so unprofessional, she--
 "Like what you see?"
Still stunned, Ava nods, helpless to do anything else. "Very much." It's the utter inanity of what she's said that shocks her out of her stupor, bolting out of the room immediately, cheeks so warm she's sure she's blushing red as a tomato.
Ava heads back to the study of the ship to, ostensibly, look at the encore map but actually to avoid having to talk to someone and risk blurting out what she'd done or said or, worst, have to talk to Zari about it. But, of course, Zari walks up to her, and there's nothing to do but bite the bullet and apologize.
"I'm really sorry about that," Ava says. "I didn't mean to, but that's not important. I--"
"Apology accepted," Zari says, interrupting Ava's word vomit. "You know, if you ever wanna see me naked, all you have to do is ask me."
Before Ava can say anything to that, like "I have a girlfriend", "this seems like a weird response", or "I don't have any idea what's going on", Zari winks and slaps Ava's ass. Ava jolts and her mouth falls open in shock, watching Zari leave with a red face.
She doesn't turn back to the encore map for a long time.
--
Ava's blushing at the memory, but before she can shoot the other Zari and get this whole mess over with, she interrupts her. "I remembered that too! I can't believe the robots also took our memories. How'd they even do that?"
"Ugh, that's so stupid. I'm so mad at Evil Gideon right now."
"Shut up, Evil Zari!"
"I'm not Evil Zari, you're Evi--"
"Ava," Zari--the second Zari, maybe or maybe not the fake Zari--says, looking right at her. "Do you remember when we almost kissed?"
--
Ava's a little high. She's not sure she likes it, but she doesn't hate it, either. Plus, it's helping her fit in! It's her first punk concert, and Charlie's music is--well, not really her thing, but she's happy to see her happy. But mostly what she's feeling now is a little overwhelmed, the noise, the mass of people, the smell. (As in olfactory, not the band. Actually, probably at least partially the band.) She's stepped outside just to get some fresh air, spotting Sara animatedly chatting with some of Charlie's friends.
Walking a little further (not up for talking with strangers right now, even with Sara there), she sees Zari, leaning against a wall. One-on-one with a friend, she can handle, so she walks closer until she's in Zari's earshot without needing to yell. "What are you doing out here?"
Zari smiles, a little tense. "Just stepping out for some fresh air."
"So am I," Ava says, smiling back.
Zari relaxes and lets Ava step closer, smirking at her in a way that--feels a little different than her usual teasing. Maybe it's the weed? But maybe it's just Zari, the rush of everything finally being okay, being here with her. They've flirted, sure, but it's always stayed just that, light comments that could reasonably be mistaken for something else. This feels real, harder to deny.
She should mind. She doesn't.
Ava raises a hand and holds it up to Zari's cheek, and Zari leans into the touch. "You look so beautiful."
"I know," Zari says, wrapping her arms around Ava's waist and pulling her close. Ava laughs a little, resting her forehead against Zari's. It's stupid to do this here, out in the open, but she finds that she doesn't care half as much as she should, especially when Zari moves her hands to Ava's ass and gives them a squeeze.
Ava gasps, face right in front of Zari's, and it's a little too much, suddenly, so she pulls back, just slightly, takes a breath that just smells like Zari's perfume. Zari looks at her questioningly, a little worry in her expression. That reassures Ava enough that she's back to feeling light and floaty, looking into Zari's eyes and then glancing back down to her lips. With only a quick glance up to confirm Zari's looking at her the same way, she slowly leans in--
Just as their lips are about to touch, Ava hears a group of people walking past them, talking loudly. They both jump apart from each other, Ava scanning to see if Sara's in the crowd--but no, it's just some punks that are probably too young to be at this venue, even with the UK's more lax alcohol laws. This was a mistake, she shouldn't have done this.
"I-I'll meet you inside," Ava says, voice shakier than she'd like, face warm as she rushes away.  When she looks back, she sees Zari looking at the group angrily.
They don't talk about it after that. Not after Ava gets drunk to try and deal with it, not after she sobers up, not after they discover Sara's been literally abducted by aliens, not after they found out Sara was going to propose, not after the Waverider explodes. It's too chaotic to add anything else on top.
But they keep flirting through all of it.
--
Ava's face is even redder now, and she wants to tell them that that's enough. Not because she's figured it out--she still has no fucking clue--but because she's getting, embarrassingly enough, turned on just by talking about them almost doing things. God.
But before she can, the Zari who'd brought up memories first says, "Fine." She looks at Ava with a sexy smirk on her face, and her mouth goes dry as she continues, "Do you remember when we kissed for the first time?"
--
Ava's only wearing a shirt and underwear when she walks into the kitchen, seeing a slightly-more put-together Zari staring at a couple of whiskey bottles like they've done something wrong.
 "Aves."
 "Hi, Z!"
"How many bottles of whiskey are there on the table?"
Okay, people grieve friends in their own ways, so she tries to stay cheerful. "Uh, two!"
"...two! The fridge is making whiskey."
 Oh, nice. "What? That's fantastic."
Zari's eyes are wide. "The Waverider."
"...yeah? I guess it's kind of like the Waverider. Although the fridge doesn't take requests like Gideon."
"No, no, no, this bottle--this bottle is the Waverider. And this bottle is the mystery Waverider that blew us up." She pauses, just for a second. "So if there's two Waveriders, who's to say there isn't..." She turns to open the fridge and gasps, pulling out another bottle of whiskey. "Third Waverider?" She grabs another. "And a fourth. It will never end."
"Oh, I get it. You're still really stoned."
"So--so, let's say we go back and stop the mystery Waverider from blowing us up. That's great, but that mystery Waverider came from somewhere which means if one showed up, then another one could. And another, and another, and another--"
"Okay, wait--" Ava moves over to the other side of the counter to try and distract Zari. "Let's just slow this train down. Take this." She hands her a bottle of some all-purpose cleaner. "Remember this? Here. Grab this. Hi, hi, hi. Look, squirt." She should maybe be self-conscious about choosing that phrasing, but she's come this far. "Squirt, squirt. Squirt and wipe! Squirt and wipe, and the gummies are gonna wear off, and then you're gonna be feeling the natural high of a job well done." Zari looks at her with a confused expression, clearly not understanding what Ava's saying. "Look. Show me." She steps back, giving Zari space to clean.
"Wait--" Zari holds Ava's hand, stopping her from walking away and pulling her closer. "I know another way to help the gummies wear off."
"I--Sara's up there, she'll hear us--"
"Then be quiet!" Zari says, like it's that simple, and kisses Ava. After so long, Ava barely knows how to respond, holding back a moan and kissing Zari back. Zari deepens the kiss, Ava hesitantly putting her hands on Zari's waist to encourage her to keep going. With surprising strength, Zari lifts Ava up and onto the counter. Ava moves her hands up Zari's sides and locks her legs around her hips, the kiss intense and heavy and--not stopping, moving into the next kiss and the next and the next until Zari does pull away just to pepper kisses to Ava's neck.
Ava moves her hand to Zari's bun just to feel her hair, still soft and healthy even after all this, tilting her head to give Zari better access. She has to bite back a groan when Zari bites down, hard, not enough to break the skin or bruise but definitely enough to threaten it. The thought should be sobering, but it's anything but, especially when Zari moves her hands to Ava's ass and squeezes. "God, Z, you're gonna be the death of me."
Zari bites and kisses her way up Ava's throat and back to her mouth, kissing her again, nipping her bottom lip. One of her hands slowly moves down Ava's leg from her ass and to her thigh, then back up towards where she's soaking her underwear. Ava whines, egging her on, but right as she's about to touch where Ava wants her, they hear footsteps.
They both pull apart to stare at the entrance to the foyer, and Ava whispers, "It's Sara." Fucked up as it is, part of her wants to yell at Sara for interrupting the moment. Zari moves aside to give Ava room to jump off the counter, shirt falling down to hide the evidence of what they've done. Ava presses a quick kiss to the corner of Zari's mouth as an apology, then heads out of the kitchen, pretending nothing's happened as she comes across Sara in the hall.
--
"Okay, that's enough!" Ava rubs her face in an effort to try and control her blush, knowing it's probably hopeless.
"Alright, that's it," says the second Zari, cutting off the other one. "I'm the real Zari, and Ava is mine." She pulls Ava in for a kiss, who's stunned into stillness by the suddenness of it. As this Zari deepens the kiss, though, she can't help but melt into it, moaning into her mouth and slowly responding.
She keeps an eye on the first Zari, though, who's standing with her hands on her hips and glaring at the makeout in front of her. "No, I'm the real Zari, and Ava is mine!" She pulls Ava away from the first kiss and kisses her. The kiss is--fantastic, like Zari's always fantastic, although this could be a fake Zari. A robot sent to kill her. But when she kisses like this--
The other Zari pulls Ava towards her. "She's not yours!"
The one she was just kissing pulls her back. "Yes, she is!"
Like puppies playing with a toy, they start yanking Ava back and forth between them for a few seconds until Ava, getting a little fed up, says, "That's enough! I'm gonna find out who the real Zari is right now."
"How?" they ask in unison, neither letting go of her arms.
"If you let me kiss each of you properly, I'll be able to tell who the real Zari is," she says. Before she can think better of it, she adds, "I know how she tastes."
They both look a little flustered at that, nodding in agreement. Ava pulls the one who'd kissed her first into a kiss. That Zari wraps her arms around Ava's , pulling her close as they continue to makeout. She sucks on Ava's tongue in a move that has her knees weak, and when Ava breaks the kiss, she gives Ava a sexy smirk and presses another quick, chaste kiss before letting her go. Ava turns to the other Zari, who looks a little distracted by the display but still perks up when Ava kisses her.
This Zari pulls Ava closer by wrapping her arms around her waist, moving one hand to Ava's ass and giving it a squeeze. Ava groans into the kiss and pulls back with great reluctance. But she knows what to do now, and walks away from this Zari to stand next to the other one. Stunned, the Zari she'd just walked away from stares in abject shock as her doppelgänger pulls Ava close with an arm around her shoulders and sticks her tongue out at Zari.
Ava pulls the winning Zari into a kiss, pulling her close and getting a hand in her hair, then down her neck, and then--she pulls the CPU out from her neck, watching as the robot falls to the floor.
"Oh. Oh!" Her Zari, the real Zari, is looking at her with her mouth wide open. "How...?"
Ava shrugs. "I know your obsession with my ass."
Zari snorts before smirking at her, walking closer to Ava and wrapping her arms around her waist. Ava brings her hands to Zari's shoulders as Zari pulls her in close. "You know me. Better than you know your wife, I'd bet."
It's goading her into a reaction Ava's not given yet, Ava's not blind, but she can't say she doesn't agree. "What can I say? Sara's good, but you're the best." She kisses Zari quickly, just a little affection after the--high-stress experience.
"So," Zari says. "Your ass saved me, huh?" Once again, she brings her hands back down to Ava's butt and gives both cheeks a squeeze. Ava gasps and jolts further into Zari, whose smirk deepens. "You know, the Legends won't be back until the evening. You want to know what other parts of you I'm obsessed with?" She punctuates the thought by copping another feel.
Ava moans again and kisses Zari roughly, mumbling her answer into the kiss. "Yes. Obviously. Why'd you think I invited you over in the first place?"

pspspspspsps tell me about your star palace ocs please
*ungodly gremlin noises* WHO SUMMONS ME!?!
But for real tho, thanks for asking! I currently have four Star Palace OCs, two of which are robots. For brevity’s sake I’ll only discuss the robots right now, but let me know if you wanna see more!
First up, my first and oldest robotic SP Oc, Nill! Nill is a love bot that comes from the same manufacturer as Zavy, and is in fact the same model as well! (Without the modifications of course) Since he is a domestic love-bot, he stands at about 6’7ft tall and only has one set of arms. He was given to a rich exec during a white elephant Christmas party as a gag gift, and since then he’s been tossed around between abusive owners. He was often labeled as “defective” because he doesn’t enjoy sexual intimacy, and after he had finally had enough of his last owner, he decided to run away. He’s currently on the lamb, never staying in one place for too long for fear of getting dismantled, or worse…sent back. Eventually though, he gets caught sneaking around the backrooms of Star Palace by none other than Mirage. Unfortunately, nobody believes them for the time being, the employees and other bots believe Nill is just another figment of Mirage’s wild imagination. And Nill doesn’t mind milking that.
Next up, Zari Safari, or as she’s known in Star Palace, Madam Zahra! Zari Safari was the mascot and tour guide for a very popular Zoo, programmed with extensive facts about all kinds of animals. She is a falconer, zoologist, zookeeper, entomologist, and much more! However after her mascot was phased out. She was then renamed, re-wigged, and shipped to Star Palace. There, she preforms as a singer, acrobat, and aerial silkist under the name Madam Zahra. Her old programming surprisingly wasn’t scrapped due to how intensely it was woven into her memories, completely wiping her would result in an awkward boot up. Zari is a curios and good natured boy with a love of learning, teaching, and observing the world around her. But when she’s suddenly thrust into the flashy, fast-paced world of Star Palace, she can’t help but feel lost, and the fact that almost her entire appearance and identity was stripped away from her doesn’t help.
P.S I have some more art and information about my OCs here: https://www.tumblr.com/thegreatarlecchina/720470855075938304/did-some-expressions-for-mah-boi-nill-just-fyi

sat down and decided to write a season 7 like. e or f plot for john constantine in the universe where geoff johns said we could use him if we don’t give him more than 10 minutes total screentime
step 1: john keeps encountering android zari in modern times and thinks that she’s regular zari tarazi going through a punk phase since they broke up. continually tells her he finds this very sexy. she actively tries to kill him. she is grievously injured offscreen and taken away by the other androids before he can figure out what’s happened. this happens about 10 - 12 times.
step 2: john realizes that this is, in fact, not actually zari tarazi, and is a robot. he immediately asks the robot why she wasn’t programmed to be in love with him and then has to clarify that he DOESN’T mean it in a weird way, he’s just POSITIVE that being in love with him is like a crucial and observable part of zari’s core character. like he’s pretty important to her, one would think. is all he’s saying. not because he wants to date her, the robot. that would be weird
step 3: john pretends he wants to date the robot because he thinks it will make human zari jealous.
step 4: john realizes human zari has been stuck in 1925 this entire time. the ENTIRE time. it has been like 18 weeks. like a LONG time.
step 5: didn’t think this far ahead actually
