7.11 Rage Against the Machines

Okay that was one of the most stressful episodes of the show, and probably the most stressful one so far in the season. The emotional rollercoaster I had??? They better pay for my therapy. Wow. That was really intense. I couldn’t get over it.

First of all… our Legends’ plan about boarding the Waverider not pushing through, the robo!Legends going on a killing spree murdering all the time travelers, Ava getting shot, robo!Sara stabbing Thawne???? Holy hell that stressed me out more than anything in the world.

Jes directed the episode so I was expecting some angsty reason for Ava to have less screentime. But I wasn’t expecting that the reason would be she got shot????? I literally screamed when I saw her got shot. I knew she would eventually recover but I was so worried for her?????? They had no medbay but luckily they had Gwyn who had experience about gunshot wounds. (Also, for a while there, I was worried it might get worse and she’d die lol).

On top of that, I was also so so so soooo worried (most definitely an understatement) about Sara having to replace Thawne in guarding The Fixed Point. She looked so worried and stressed when she picked up Thawne’s time manipulator. I know she must have been thinking a lot of things: her wife getting shot, her having to stay in The Fixed Point to protect it, getting the Waverider back, not knowing how to defeat their robot doppelgängers. She was at a loss. She was overwhelmed by the problems she thought she should fix. Well, I couldn’t blame her. I was overwhelmed, too and I’m not the captain lol.

I really liked it when she tried to talk to robo!Nate and robo!Sara, and not like fight with them. Another one of her developments to be proud of, for sure. Early seasons Sara Lance’s first instinct would definitely be fighting but now, she wanted to talk it out with the robo!Legends first and negotiate with them. Although, I think it was because she couldn’t seem to think of any other way to get home, knowing that they wouldn’t stand a chance with the robo!Legends. Still, it was refreshing to see.

Gwyn having a panic attack but thinking of his memories with the Legends has somehow helped him get through it??? Loved it. He hasn’t been with them that long but I liked how he had drawn enough great moments with them to help him recover. Also, I loved how he was so motivating of Sara and I’m glad he got to lead the mission this episode. I’ll always be glad to see the other members leading the team because as we’ve all seen, the captains don’t always have the answers. Anw, Gwyn is so smart and wise and I liked his war plan. He really said ‘we can outthink them’ and in the end, they actually did.

I also liked how he comforted Behrad when B was nervous about having to board the Waverider alone. Anddd, he was constantly calling B ‘my boy’ 🥺🥺 They’re so soft, I love their friendship so much.

Behrad ‘my boy’ Tarazi having to see his robot doppelgänger murder people was heartbreaking. He’s literally incapable of fighting and seeing robo!B shoot the other time travelers bothered him so much that he actually confronted them. It showed how much he was bothered by it when he was so uncomfortable about holding a gun (he was even practicing to make it more believable 🤏🏽) and thinking about going on a year-long cleanse after that. I was also kinda scared for him when he had to board the ship alone. The way he said so awkwardly, “I slaughtered those innocent people,” and how he added, “Their relatives are definitely mourning right now,” was such a Behrad thing to do lmao. Also, I loved his scene with robo!Zari when she said she’s proud of him. That was the closest thing to robo!Tarazis we could get and I’ll take it 😂😂

BEHRASTRA KISSED?!?! Feels like a fever dream to me. Astra’s “Finally!” after they kissed, though 😂

Okay I love protective Astra so much but I was also really sad for Gideon. She was really disheartened when she got yelled at and also I’m kinda done with it. I would really love for them to treat Gideon as an equal and not just dismiss her. I know she’s new to being human but she can think for herself and the least they could do is guide her and protect her, not dismiss her?? I am thankful of Gary being protective of Gideon in other way. He looks out for her and he stands up for her when literally no one else is. I also kinda wanna see Gideon standing up for herself. I think she’s capable of protecting herself. (Getting stabbed(?) at the back by robo!Astra doesn’t count because she literally did not see it coming).

ALSO WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?? When you thought everything was fine already but then robo!Astra sneaks up on Gideon and attacks her????? (Alexa play Ironic by Alanis Morisette). MY FAVORITE HUMAN COMPUTER DIDN’T DESERVE THAT. What was the reason??? Lol. I suspect that by the end of the season, after they eliminate evil!Gideon, our Gideon will return to her AI form because our Legends already have the Waverider back??

I gotta admit, our Legends was so smart about tricking the robo!Legends. Gary tricking robo!Astra and Dr. Sharpe and pushing them to hell, I wasn’t expecting that lmao 😂 and Spooner was so quick to think on her feet when she said she was robo!Spooner pretending to be human Spooner and robo!Alien Gary actually believing her 😂😂 I guess the robo!Legends weren’t programmed to be as smart as our Legends. They’re literally so dumb 😂😭 (I loved Gary’s line when he said, “Just play dumb. It took the Legends years to figure out I was an alien.” I mean, he’s not wrong 😂)

Our Zari fighting robo!Zari was downright hilarious. I love how even evil, robo!Zari still was a lot like our Zari. They were really entertaining 😂😂 They were both reallyyyy terrible fighters. They were literally kicking air 😂 and Gary and Astra getting confused at who the real Zari was?? Same here. Tala is so amazing like that. (Zari pulling all Gidget’s wires was so on-brand of her. I love her so much, she was hilarious the whole time).

Our Legends pretending to be the robo!Legends (Astra, Z, and B) were great, most especially Z. Tala playing our Zari pretending to be robo!Zari?! That was an outstanding performance, really. All of the cast were able to play both versions of themselves very well. It was like we can see some similarities between our Legends and the robot ones but not in an exact way. The actors played both versions differently but not so different that there are still hints of the real Legends in the robo!Legends and not so similar that we know the robo!Legends are not the real Legends. (I’m not making sense but I don’t know how else to say it lol).

Also things I loved seeing this episode: our Nate steeling up (missed it big time), the Legends manually driving crashing the Waverider (even if it’s just Astra and B), the Legends IN the Waverider, and simply robo!Sara (also missed her btw. It’s sad we won’t get to see her again in the next two eps r.i.p.).

When Gwyn, Spooner, and Nate were celebrating after evil!Gideon’s been shut down, it was when I knew we were screwed. It was time for Sara to stay in The Fixed Point and I was really upset about it. I literally almost got mad at her for being so selfless and for making promises to Thawne. I was really worried and sad especially when she said, “Tell Ava to come and find me.” LIKE WHAT WAS THAT???? What about “I’m not going anywhere ever again, I promise,” and “I already told you I am not leaving you again????” God the angst would have probably been so great, but I don’t want them to be apart ever again after season 6.

I read some stuff saying it was ooc for Sara to not worry about Ava getting shot and I agree. But I only attribute it to other things so I wouldn’t stress out myself further. Like Sara having so many other things to worry about and her being captain and protector of the timeline first, wife second. And I’d like to think that if she had been all over Ava, Ava would go and tell her to kick ass and just focus on getting their team home. I just wish she’d be the one to personally tell Ava about her staying in The Fixed Point or that we got to see Sara worrying about Ava even just for a second. But I guess there wasn’t enough time. Time was their literal enemy lol.

I love Sara so so much but I just wish she wouldn’t have to face their enemies alone. Just because she can regenerate and can be considered immortal, it doesn’t mean she’ll have to sacrifice herself for the sake of her team. I mean, yes, she’s captain (and captains should be the last one to leave the boat or something like that) but she has teammates for a reason. And it is definitely a lot better when they fight together. Also, I think the reason she’d rather go at it alone is because she’s suffered from so much loss in her life (not only those who died, but also those who left the team) and she’d prefer getting hurt than losing another one of her own. It doesn’t mean I liked it, though. I was really really glad and thankful for Nate, Spooner, and Gwyn when they refused to leave Sara, I almost cried. Also, that scene of theirs only proves how smart our Nate is compared to big dumb lunk!Nate. Our Nate really tricked him into replacing Thawne lmao. (I thought it would be robo!Sara at first lol).

OTHER NOTES

I was so stressed in this episode that I didn’t get to appreciate much Jes’ directing of the episode. But she did it so so well and I’m so proud of her!!

I loveddd this episode so much. It was so great but I only ranked it second because it stressed me out so much, I probably won’t recover 😂

Also I think they’re gonna do a bottle episode for the next episode? It would be fun, I think. Just like Ship Broken lol. I’d say I can’t wait to see Gwyn on the Waverider but I think I didn’t see him in the promo? Does it mean anything? Oh no. I hope not.

I wonder if they’re gonna be able to eliminate evil!Gideon next episode and just focus on saving Alun in the finale? If that is the case, there wouldn’t be a big bad in the finale? I hope there will be. It would be underwhelming if there won’t be.

They’ve also hinted the character that’s gonna be in the finale and many are suspecting it’s gonna be Booster Gold played by Donald Faison. I don’t know how I feel about it because I literally don’t know Booster Gold and all I know is that he’s Rip Hunter’s father. Full circle. Could be a perfect series finale IF they don’t get renewed.

But I need for them to be renewed now, please. We only have 2 episodes left and there’s still no news about their renewal 😞 plus, there’ll be a two-week hiatus so we’ll see them again on the 23rd.
