My Opinion On Mortal Kombat 12

The good, the bad, and the salty.

Quick disclaimer, I am not at all a professional reviewer, this will not be formatted or written with any sense of professionalism. If you can not handle, openly simping, stupid meme references and jokes, cussing, very strong feminine opinions, or general NRS criticism maybe pass on this one.

First- Spoiler free game play advise:

Kitana's AI in story mode is brain dead, she'll be the easiest fight in the game.

Shao is pretty easy to beat as long as you don't let him hit you.

Hit boxes are wild and (maybe) broken. Basically you're gonna 'miss' a lot of shots you could have sworn you actually hit. Don't be surprised. Just keep attacking and eventually you'll land a hit.

NOW I will be spoiling the story. Sooooo SPOILDERS FROM THIS POINT ON.

The Good:

Kronika wasn't actually part of the story. Not gonna lie, they had me in the first half (I have more to say on this but those belong in the Bad and the Salty list).

Baraka, Bi Han, Reptile, Sareena, and Nitara can get it. Yes I'm being shameless right now. It's my blog.

FEMALE REPTILE! FEMALE REPTILE! (This skin better be available or I will have words)

I don't know if this was intentional, but having Sareena share a voice actress with Sindel was a cute call back to the two being originally played by the same actress during their OG games.

Baraka was really interesting and I hope he come back. He wasn't just some savage monster, he actually had a real personality and goals. It was a great evolution of his MK11 version (but I'll still miss MK11 Baraka). I want to see him progress more and get his own proper story line.

I have opinions about Hanzo in MK12, but I will compliment one thing. His new suit is bad ass. That's the only nice thing I will be saying about this topic.

Bi Han didn't die, I was quite pleasantly surprised.

With the Mortal Kombat competition never happening I believe this means Hydro is canonically alive. So Maybe Hydro in MK13?

Johnny and Kenshi's friendship was wholesome and I loved it. It was really the highlight of the game for me and I'm looking forward to another Johnny/Sonya/Kenshi team up.

The writers actually remembered Johnny's divorce. I'm shook.

Smoke is adorable and got to live through the story. I'm so proud of him and he deserves the world.

Evil Sindel's outfit was 11/10... if only there was a way to unlock it (I'll get to that later)

I like the Special Forces characters, but it was nice to get a short break from them. Gave us some time with other characters. That said I want them in the next game. I'm missing Sonya, Jax, and Kano already.

While I'm not a huge fan of the base skins (they're not bad, just not great) I loved a lot of the alternative skins shown off in the storymode look amazing and I'm hoping they're unlockable.

I was incredibly happy Raiden's old voice actor came back for this game. I'm not sure when he'll get to play Raiden again so it was nice to see him take up the roll one more time.

I liked that you could pick which character you played in the ending.

The Bad:

First thing is first: there are microtransactions. WHY DID I PAY 60 DOLLARS FOR A GAME IF THERE WERE GOING TO BE GOD DAMN MICROTRANSACTIONS?????????? Boon???? Why??? It'd day 1 and there's already god dang microtransactions. Like I guess it's nice that the invasion is available, but charging me 60$ and then asking for more is stupid.

The AI really puts the i in idiot. Basically it's bad. I know I originally mentioned Kitana's AI (since that's who it's the worst with in my opinion) but I also had an issue with Ashrah and Baby Raiden. They will literally walk backwards until they hit the end of the stage, of if they can fly they'll just jump in the air and stay there. Even on the harder difficulties the game felt too easy. I have lost a total of two fights between both the story mode and invasion.

It feels a bit manipulative that the whole 'tournament' that was heavily featured in the trailers only lasted maybe about 1/3 of the actual plot. It was such a nothing plot point, you could probably cut it out and it wouldn't be missed. Yet that was the only real plot point we saw in the trailer.

Jerrod's death is never explained. He was just killed, but apparently by no one of relevance. He just fell and couldn't even get back up.

They REALLY went with Evil Bi Han, which doesn't even make sense. Let me explain, as far as we know Bi Han has no reason to hold the opinions he does. Human opinions don't exist in an echo chamber. His father was against his ideas, his brothers were against his ideas, everyone around him was against his ideas. Where in the hell did this come from???? I would have understood if maybe if Shang Tsung had been slowly manipulating him throughout the game, but Bi Han was already on that 'f#ck them gods' juice since the beginning of the game (which is a mindset I very much indorse). (Okay I just thought about it but what if instead Quan Chi had used Sareena to try and tempt Bi Han over to their side. As in he sends her in infiltrate the Lin Kuei and get close to Bi Han so she can talk him into turning on Liu Kang, but has she spends more time in the Lin Kuei and with Kuai Liang and Bi Han she starts to have a change of heart and kind of has a sort of Mythologies arc where she begins to understand human feelings and gets attached to them. Having her then join the good guys and tries to undo her manipulation on Bi Han. Sorry idea rant. Back to the review.) MY POINT is that as far as we know there is no one who could have influenced Bi Han in this way. It just doesn't make sense why he thinks this. At least with Shang Tsung and Quan Chi it made sense since 1. They were manipulated and 2. Liu Kang actually f#cked them over and they had a valid reason to be mad. Bi Han had no given reason to hate Liu Kang other then he didn't like his clan being under the god's boot (WHICH I MEAN IS KIND OF VALID).

They didn't even have the balls to let Bi Han murder his his own father. "I didn't help save him!" WTF does that mean???? Did Bi Han just wait to long to call 911??? Did Bi Han watch him fall off a cliff? What does that mean?

NRS Writers have yet again created a situation that made me have to sit there and wonder if we were really on the good guys side. There were a few points where the "bad guys" said something that made me pause and be like "wait, let's hear them out". Often times that makes Liu Kang look like kind of a d!ck since he did design this timeline. See this post here for more of my feelings on this. Examples:

Ashrah confronted Nitara and Nitara explained she just wanted to save her people but apparently we're siding with Ashrah, the woman who's magic sword told her to commit murder to "cleanse her soul". Not Nitara, the woman who's people are incredibly ill and at risk of dying (ALSO WHO ASHRAH ADMITTED TO KILLING).

After Sindel tells Rain that he was like a son to her (a relationship we never get to see) Rain made a comment about how Sindel limited him. I actually what to know what he's talking about. He could just be being a salty bitch, but we don't know since this comment is never explained. Plus Sindel in intros has been shown to be rather cruel if she viewed it to be in her benefit, so what Rain was referring to might have happened. She might have nerfed the demi-god if she viewed his as a threat, but we'll never know since this is never explained.

I think Mileena's outfit is too pink. Her color has always kind of been this purplish pink color and I think the color they picked was just too pink and not purple enough. X had this issue too but we're not talking about that one right now.

The whole 2nd half of the plot was honestly a whole mess. It just completely went all bonkers. I don't even have words. It's like they had two different writing teams and switched mid way through the plot with no communication back and fourth. While I'm glad Kronika wasn't back the actual plot twist was somehow worse. It just felt like to much and felt very unsatisfying in the end.

Mileena and Tanya's relationship feels more like Kitana x Jade then Mileena x Tanya. It feel like the writers wanted to do Kitana x Jade but got told no and just wrote Mileena and Tanya in the roles instead.

Hanzo... Now this. I'm not going to repeat myself so to see how I feel about this in context of how it effect Hanzo as a character go here. I will go over some other issues I don't talk about in that post. The fact Kuai Liang's first canonical love interest is Hanzo's dead wife is something so rage inducing I'm not sure how to put it into words. Kuai Liang has never had his own thing, he has his brother's title, his father's powers, he remade his old clan, and now even his wife was another's before she was his. As a long time fan of Kuai Liang the only reasonable response to this I can have is disappointed. I'm just disappointed in NRS's handling of this character and their clumsy recreation of Hanzo rather then just including Hanzo in the game. Even in a new timeline NRS is to scared to try something too new. It's different but not different enough to mean anything. Just an endless circle of the same story they told two timelines ago. I really don't have the words to properly express the storm of unpleasant emotions this plot point causes me. It just sucks.

Sub Zero vs Scorpion has gotten old. This is all.

The Salty:

(This is just things that annoy me personally and I don't really view as actual criticism. Ignore this part if you don't care about mindless ranting)

I don't like this Mileena. She feels nothing like her previous self and I'm just not a fan. There's none of her fun loving, but creepy, personality she had before. I kind of get why but as a hardcore Mileena simp I just don't like the change.

I didn't unlock a single new outfit during storymode and that's very frustrating given the amount of unlockables we got in MK11.

Since when has Bi Han been a blood purest??? That seemed stupid.

I don't like Sindel's story mode outfit. Hers in particular I'm not a fan of.

I hate this version of Ashrah. She seems to self righteous for my liking. Plus her blaming Quan Chi for her sister's deaths when SHE was the one who killed them kind of annoyed me.

Honestly overall 4/10 story wise and maybe I'll post about the invasion later, but I don't know.

I don't think I like Threads.

I haven't seen anyone talk bout Threads over here yet to make fun of it so I'm going to give a review nobody asked for, as somebody whose only social media is Instagram and Tumblr (although I am still a Tumblr newbie)

Pros:

It looks like a twitter from before the Muskrat infestation (to my eyes). I may not have been on twitter, but I have spent my whole social media life seeing twitter screenshots, and yeah. This app looks like it

Hello people on Instagram I already follow, it's nice to not have to manually search for you! I actually really like this feature. I can enjoy content from the ppl I already follow*

Lots of memes about twitter downfall. I like this. It amuses me.

Cons:

Why are there random brand accounts on my feed? I don't like the random brand accounts on my feed. I go back to Tumblr where I can see the ppl I actually follow. * - Until I refresh and I get the random brand accounts again.

Doomscrolling. You can't seem to make pages like on Tumblr, which makes it hard to stop your doomscrolling

Autorefresh. Yeah no. Please no I was trying to read that-

No funky app logo colours. It's not pink like Instagram, green like WhatsApp, random colours at random times like Tumblr or blue like Facebook/twitter. It's black. Boring :(

Overall thoughts & opinions:

6/10. It seems ok. Just. Please fix the random brand accounts trying to be funny on my page. That's all I ask.

My basic review for kung fu panda 4 (some spoilers ahead)

Comedy was great, made me laugh many times. There are some points where it does kinda feel like older characters were flanderized, but it wasn’t too big of a problem. The furious five not being back is okay, but I hope they do play a prominent role in the possible next one. One issue was the pacing. There could have been some more slower scenes to let the audience rest I think. Some more emotional scenes would have been nice. There was a lot of missed opportunities in this. Shen and Kai do not talk at all for the duration they’re in the movie, which sucks tbh especially for shen. You mean to tell me they couldn’t have even one moment where Shen stops to tell Po he’s sorry for what he did to his people? Tai Lung’s arc in the movie was okay but I feel like they could have done more with him. The dynamic between Po and Zhen feels like it could have been done a bit better but maybe I just need to watch the movie again. Now onto chameleon. I get that they didn’t want to make her redeemable but there was some points about her that I feel they missed out on expanding. She tells Po she was casted aside by every kung fu master she ever met for her size. I feel like they could have done something by having Po tell her that she would have been gladly accepted and embraced by the Jade Palace (they accepted an insect ffs). Also with chameleon, I feel like they missed out on Zhen calling her out on what she’s doing. Something like “I can’t believe I ever looked up to you! I should have seen how terrible you were before, but I was blinded by the fact that you took me in! I saw you as family and did everything you asked for, only because I saw you as the one good thing that ever happened to me! But now I can see that there’s no goodness inside you at all!” I know, it’s mushy, but idk maybe it would have been a good line. All in all, fun movie, could have had more emphasis on the emotion.

My 2023 item review - Dockable Case (w/ Screen Protector and Thumb Grips) - Part 2/Final [Jan. 9th, 2023]

Back for this continuing review, my friends! While already covered the first parter back in Jan. 26th, I’m still catching up to do by installing my Switch system alongside my Joy-Cons. Before of doing that though, I wanted to make sure my Switch system needs cleaning and dusting. Which we’re in for today’s continuing review. However expect this one will be the final before moving to other items I’m eager to share. 

⬆️ 14th through 15th Images

Here you can see I’ve two different wipes, a dust absorber, a cloth, and a screen protector onto my Switch for cleaning. There were came from the box after opening, BTW. Anyways, I handle well with the cleaning, wiping, and picking dust that I know what these are use for. At least I took about few minutes before moving to install the screen protector next.

Now for the next one, I’ve been carefully to install a screen protector on my Switch system. It’s a good thing I did just a bit right, but got it fit nonetheless. Though I recommend some stickers and an alignment frame tool for extra help. At least if I had the alignment frame tool for my Switch system, but I haven’t. 😅

⬆️ 17th through 19th Image Nevertheless, at least now I’m moving on to placing the dockable case shorty afterwards. I started on the back where I needed to be careful of installing. Thankfully as always, it fit right in where I took some time of showing off. Though I would’ve prefer changing the color for my dockable case than this, but probably next time. Regardless, it does stand out as I expected; especially for the material as I holding with my hands. I’ll get to that for later.

⬆️ 20th through 23rd Images

I’m now doing with my Joy-Cons that needed covering, but hold on. You may asking “are these new Joy-Cons instead of my original Joy-Cons? The gray ones?” Well ever since my original Joy-Cons had been worn out a bit; especially the last time where I show off the R button from the right sided Joy-Con. ➡️ Link Here

Not only that, It also came with an issue of stick drift which is unfortunate. Though I know I should get it fix by watching some tutorial videos like VK’s YouTube Channel if learning right. (Don’t know of fixing the R button, though) Nevertheless, I asked my mom to buy me second set of Joy-Cons; which happened back in April. 13th, 2021. That’s my story of it, but hoping to expect as I going through this review and saving my new Joy-Cons test later soon. 

Anyways, back to setting up my new Joy-Cons to cover up; which I have when placing from bottom to top. Though I had to switch up from top to bottom, but at least fits right up as well. Just making sure it doesn’t have some scratches for each Joy-Cons. On the plus side, it’s what I’m hoping for so I don’t leave out any smudge stuff when holding my hands. Mostly my right sided Joy-Con when I’m pressing the A button for example.

And now it’s finally completed! All secure with a screen protector upfront. As I picked up with my hands, it felt smooth due to the materials of my dockable case. I looked up that it made with "shock-absorbent and anti-scratch PC" material. Sounds promising, right? I'll see if it can hold up until I'll get a new case soon. This time, I’m picking a theme like blue or the Super Mario themed case.

Not done with this review though, I have a set of joy-con thumb grips/caps to pick on. There are ten total of caps in two each: red, blue, black, and purple with paws. The difference between four black caps is smaller while the other was a bit big; though at least not way too big. If I had to pick though is going with red and blue for each joy-cons. Does make sense of having both new controllers I’m having. However how well protective for each controlling sticks on top? They’re pretty alright that it made in different material. I tested out when pressing and moving them; especially in games like Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Very appreciate of using the caps so far, but I’m okay with the red and blue ones.

My Overall Thoughts:  After owning one of last year’s Christmas gifts, the dockable case and other accessories is something I’m hoping for. These includes a screen protector right after cleaning and ten total thumb grips/caps. The main item itself though was good too. It’s made with "shock-absorbent and anti-scratch PC", but felt smooth when holding both hands as to playing games in handheld mode. Do hope this holds longer as it should and to everyone can get one of those. If you had your Nintendo Switches that is. My mom ordered from Amazon.com, BTW. ⬇️

Just watched Abigail and it’s kind of a sleeper hit. At least for me. The movie manages to combine the best kinds of suspense you get in both horror and heist films and even manages to flesh out a surprisingly likeable main cast to get munched on. Seriously builds a great atmosphere of paranoia, suspicion and mistrust all through the film. If it sounds like you’re thing I’d highly recommend checking it out. Was not expecting it to have such a good time and I’ll sing this film’s praise if no one else will lol.

Very excited for the 3rd book to be released! While I am not the target demographic for these books, I've found them easy to read and enjoyable too. While some parts are a bit predictable, it's understandable and still makes for a fun read.

The second book left me with a few questions so I'm hoping the next book answers them nice and quickly (not long to go to find out!)

I also appreciate the representation in the book. I didn't feel like it was forced, and while some things aren't necessarily relevant to the story, they are necessary for those characters, and for readers to see themselves.

My favourite part about this series is creating OCs that would fit into this world, especially coming up with unicorn names (if you couldn't tell from this blog's name).

I’ve just received a really wonderful one after painting a commission of Ynys Tysilio or Church Island at Porthaethwy, Ynys Môn / Menai Bridge, Anglesey.

My customer explained his reasons for the commission and then said:

“When the painting finally arrived all those memories seemed so much more vivid, more real. My employees were very impressed with it. Sam's skill as a painter is sensitive, gifted, and highly skilled. Some friends have asked me where I got hold of the painting, and I have recommended Sam to them. It is a lovely painting, and I cherish it. I hope many more people enjoy Sam's talent and genuine artistry.”

it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...

Mash-up style review - Glass Screen Pro, StylusHome Stylus Pens, and JETech Case for my iPad 5th Generation device (and other of my devices)

Hey guys! Consider this will be my last post for this week of March; especially working hard to observe I had when checking this items I’ve owned now. (Also, just in case if I got nothing for today’s last “On This Day” post share. Sorry. 😅)

It’s for my second iPad device that I’ve hoped to give a good upgrade or a good clean. Thankfully after ordering from Amazon.com with my mom; almost until I got the right sized tablet case days later. So yeah….😅

Anyways, I got it through recording while setting things up for good measure. However, I put aside of my Fintie tablet case due to “accidental ordering” that I’ve mentioned. I’ll be keeping it unless I can get my own iPad Air soon. We’ll see. Now on with this review of March 2023. Or at least while assembling things for my second iPad device.

First off is where I started back in March. 7th. This is the Glass Screen Pro Protector from one of my packages I’ve unboxed. Though not the first where I wanted to installed at my device’s screen; which happens I’d use for my Samsung Tab E back in 2019. ⬇️

Now years later though, I’ve got the same thing that also compatible for my second iPad device. It also helped to prevent from dirt, germs, or scratches to high resolution display. At least when reading the front cover or online sites, but nice details to remember. Anyways, I unboxed this while getting started to installing my iPad’s screen. Though I’ve been through this before when doing other of my tablet and video game handheld devices.

Good thing where I followed through instructions by using guide stickers, one cleaning wipe and a cloth to set up. Once it completed by few minutes later, my second iPad’s screen is secured very well. Looking at it, it was pretty nice after being careful of installation. I’ll be saving the full picture after this review is done.

Now for something different where I moved on to my second item to unboxed. This here was my new magnetic stylus pens from the brand “StylusHome.” It even sell other different pens and accessories if you’re interested. However, I picked with those pens that I’m going with; especially how it looks like any luxury pens while holding them. Nice!

Unlike where I used to work with my “Blackweb” stylus; in terms of coloring, some sketching, or swiping through apps. ⬇️

Once I've opening this case itself, I have one each black and white pens separate; pre-installed with magnetic tips sealed that I've mentioned before. It also came with four replacement parts to install in case of losing them, a cleaning cloth, a manual book, and the warranty card. Don't expected to have USB cables to charge these pens up; unlike with my "Blackweb" pens that it still working as of today. I'll see I can check it back for my other post soon.

As for this new pens however, they're pretty fine to use without any power buttons on. Unless you'll be looking for other "StylusHome" stylus that does need charging batteries. Though what I have was good looking standard pens that I would needed to be careful when using. Which is why where going to the next part below as I tested out later. ⬇️

I went to my PicsArt app minutes later and test out at least with my one stylus pen. This here was my drawling lines I have so far, but doing in both different tips. Regardless which tips suits better to use for drawing/sketching stuff, I pick with the clear disc tip kind. I putted on top next to the below of my second drawing line; while using the fiber tip. They’re not bad, but slightly different in comparison that I would’ve do more of it. However, it’s best I can still use the clear disc tip for hoping of better art tracing experiences. Though only to get closer while tracing. Whatever works.

Good to know my “StylusHome” pens works well that I’m getting started on further art projects later on. Also it good on swiping onscreen (to other tablets and devices) whether using Google app or YouTube app through searches. Well, I usually go with my fingers; especially good for tracing through art sketches from previous times.

And finally this one; though waiting about few days til the 11th of March. Unlike where I “accidentally” ordered the Fintie tablet case, this here was the right size that I would’ve looking for. It came from the “JETech” brand that sells different cases, screen protectors, and other accessories. I helped with my mom to pick the right size for my second iPad that thankfully fits. Its design was made with faux leather material and having a sleep/wake function when opening and close the magnetic cover. As its fit though, Just wanted to make sure to check on the back bottom of my tablet’s model number. Mine was “A1822”; so after checking on what’s on the box, it support that as well. Nice. 😉👍

I also wanted to point out the color of the tablet case itself; which is black, even if I would’ve go something a bit nice or unique. However, appreciate the looks I’ve picked up with. Not only that, it also folds in different position for viewing or working while doing on art stuff. You know what’s coming when sharing this post I got.

My Thoughts:

Do apologies for the long wait I’ve worked up, but worth to check out my three items for the first time. After ordering from Amazon.com; though later when ordering the right sized tablets case was approved. I like the way while hoping to give a good clean upgrade for my second iPad device, but also using with my new stylus pens for 2023. Do hope I’ll be sure to take care of it.

Hope you guys enjoy this review I’ve came up. Again just to note, I’m leaving my Fintie tablet case out until further notice. Mostly if getting my first iPad Air tablet device soon. Who knows?

Buffalo '66, I Didn't Like this One

So, I watched Buffalo '66 and I have complicated thoughts about this film. I'm really not sure how to feel about it, I know how Vincent Gallo wants me to feel about it but that's not how I feel.

I don't wanna get too negative too quickly because there are many things that I love about this movie. For starters, it looks beautiful. This is one of the best looking movies I've ever seen and I don't mean it has a great shot every once in a while but this movie is consistently beautiful, almost every scene is screenshot worthy. Why else do I see so many moodboards about this movie or featuring shots from this movie. It's just so visually unique and interesting. They do so many cool things with the camera and lighting and cinematography.

What does is good looking movie without meaning though. My problem is not that this movie lacks meaning but rather that I don't really agree with it but regardless of that, I think, this movie manages to convey its meaning through its camera angles. Also, side note but I don't really mind a movie looking good with no substance in it. Anyway here's an example of them communicating using visuals and cinematography.

Another good thing I have to say about this movie is that it has Christina Ricci. I'm sure we can all understand, I don't know why but she just elevates every scene she is in with her presence. She was amazing in this movie and I don't think any other actress would fit the role quite like her. She's almost majestic, I guess and that's the vibe that was trying to be created with this movie. I actually love that. Everything that I've mentioned thus far really adds to the setting of the movie.

All that to say, this movie looks beautiful and on a solely visual basis, it moves me.

We'll do a quick plot summary (no spoilers) and then I'll talk about why I feel a little negative on this one.

So, the movie is about Billy Brown, he got out of jail after serving a 5 year sentence and when he speaks to his parents over the phone, they expect him to bring his wife. He doesn't have a wife though, so in order to decieve his parents he kidnaps a woman named Layla. He then gets her to pretend to be his wife. From there it all proceeds into the deepest darkness.

So why don't I feel so strongly about this movie then. It's not about the Stockholm syndrome type plot or that movies shouldn't have characters who are bad. I love a lot of movies with vile and evil main characters and Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite Disney movies so it's not because of Billy being morally grey or because of Stockholm syndrome. Then what is it? I guess, I just didn't follow the natural progression of Billy's character. Right from the very beginning of the movie, they try to create sympathy for Billy and it feels like they are trying a little too hard. The sympathy felt forced, not natural. None of the character development in this movie actually feels natural, it feels like the director was trying to make the audience feel something. An example of this, the entire sequence where he is visiting his parents. Both Billy and his parents are unreasonable towards each other and sometimes it feels like there will be some nuance involved and they're gonna show us that both Billy and his parents have their issues, Billy's parents neglected him and they need to be better parents and actually pay attention to their child, Billy also needs to do better (not towards his parents) by not falling into the same pitfalls as his parents. The movie feels one sided though, Billy's trauma is used as an excuse for everything he does in this movie and the third act, while a little rushed, does actually resolve this issue so props to them for that.

I just can't feel bad for Billy, no matter how hard Vincent Gallo tries, it won't work on me. Something about this whole movie rubs me the wrong way and I don't know what it is. It could be that Vincent Gallo cast himself in the leading role, it could be that Billy's trauma is used as an excuse for everything, it could even be that all the character development happens in the last 5 minutes and it's really jarring to see this sudden change in character. Maybe, it's because the narrative is iffy but we've already gone over that. I think it's actually that at this movie's core, the message is that the past effects the present and that is true but this movie isn't convincing with that idea. Mostly in terms of trauma and the trauma Billy endures is very prevalent in his life but the movie also tries to push the idea that he sustained trauma from prison which is a statement that is never supported. His trauma from prison might even be more plot relevant than the trauma from his parents. The thing is though, we never see how prison affected his present day so that just feels like a plotline that was just tossed in for no reason.

I do also have a problem with how Layla was written. I love Christina Ricci and she did the best she could, she was perfect in this role but she was kind of written like a male fantasy. I don't know, I don't like the way she fell in love with him even though he had no redeeming qualities at the point where she fell for him. I don't like that she has to put in all the effort and he puts in such little effort. It makes me feel iffy, they make this better near end I guess but still.

Sorry I didn't like it. I wanted to, I tried to but I just couldn't get behind no matter how hard I tried and when I tried looking deeper into it, I only found conclusions that made me hate it more. If you like this movie, that's cool, maybe you saw something that I didn't. Anyway, I don't think I was too convincing in this review, it's a little rushed and all over the place Sorry about that too.
