I just had someone tell me they knew I was from Oklahoma because I said "thank you kindly", which confused me because
A quick Google search tells me that it's an Appalachian expression, and it was brought over by Irish immigrants
I am from California

also so funny to imply that standardised british english is like an oppressed dialect or something as if its not the OG of creating a ‘correct’ language for the upper class and then claiming that other regional forms are ‘wrong’

wow who could have guessed the woman who lived in Virginia all her life raised by a loud Marylander and a soft-spoken Missouri boy would have a dialect like this. Who.

I'm from the southeastern United States and for the longest time I thought Eleanor Rigby started with the line "I look at all the lonely people."

I am curious if this is a regional thing or a “my family” thing.

There's this one subject where I think I could have done a better job. +1 na lang gid tani.
Backstory: (I mixed up the proponents on one part of the examination. I hastily answered Albert Maslow, instead of Abraham Maslow, because gadali nako mag pass papel kag magpuli. So, I just jutted down the first answer that popped on my mind. 😅
Lesson Learned:
Take your time and always review your answers before submitting your paper. Lol
Gamay na lang tani! Bawi ta next life ah! 😅

Calls
How utterly annoying it is when you're suddenly woken up by a phone call and it takes you five minutes to realise it's not family but insurance/bank/job interviews. In the meantime, you made a fool of yourself and now you're loudly emphasising the fact that you, indeed, recognise who they are. The entire Anglophone kink of "spotting where you're from" kicks in and you're not only barely managing to give logical answers; you're comparing every flexion and intonation you've ever heard to the voice at the other end of the line.
Give me a medal cause I got the accent and provided the information they needed on 2hrs of sleep. I'm a dragon.
