It's my little red Dragon's one year birthday. Look at all the love I've given him. (Left is last year, Right is one year birthday!)

Note
Will the colour of their scales affect our dragons personality? Like a red dragon being aggressive and a blue or green one being mellow?
Somewhat, yes. You’ll definitely notice it during Chapter Two.
I wouldn’t say Red Dragons are aggressive… they’re just more like a Gryffindor in some regards.

Veritistrasz, And The Dragon's Pain Of Returning Home.
Tumblr media
I'm sure by now the quest in WoW Dragonflight where you simply sit next to a dwarf disguised Dragon and listen to a story is old news. Likely written about dozens of times on this very website, but, I really just want to do a post about how much I appreciated it, and how much it does for the overall vibe and feeling of Dragonflight as a World of Warcraft expansion. Veritistraz's story isn't an easy one for them to tell, nor an easy one to listen to. It's a brutally tragic story about their first hand experience of losing multiple loved ones in a war that happened so long ago he can barely remember, but put into the context it's in, it also becomes something of beauty. While the content of the story itself may be grim, it's paired wonderfully with the sweeping vista from the Ruby Life Shrine looking out into the Waking Shores area of the Dragon Isles. It's the harshness of biter memories colliding with something of true beauty in a way that can't really be reconciled, but should be thought about. It's also indicative, I think, of a new type of storytelling mission within Dragonflight, one that I greatly appreciate. While of course, it's an outlier, and most quests in the game still require you to kill 1-10 things, or collect up some magical artifacts, having this quest so early on sets a tone. Returning to the Dragon Isles isn't exactly a sweeping victory for the Dragon Flights of Azeroth. Not only are their the obvious issues to solve from a practical standpoint, you get the sense from many of these characters that they likely never thought they'd actually see this place again. Now that they're home, they don't know how to effectively grapple with that reality. This idea is communicated calmly, via this quest that consists almost entirely of listening to an old dragon speak about their life. You don't spur this memory by bringing Veritistraz the severed head of a dragon that wronged him. They just want to look out at their home that they only vaguely remember of their own accord, and it's up to you to join them. It's a quest that looks to show us that not every story beat in World of Warcraft needs to be about the end of the world, something Shadowlands struggled with especially.
For something as bombastic as "Dragons returning to their magical island", the undercurrent of pain that all these dragons feel returning to their homeland is a remarkable choice for a game like World of Warcraft. A game that, at best, struggles with complicated emotions, and at worst outright ignores them in favor of jokes or end of the world stakes that never slow down. It's an undercurrent I hope that not only this expansion continues, but also manages to find a way to stick around for further adventures in Azeroth. I love me some bombast, and I'll always welcome it, but sometimes, stopping and looking at the river is all we really want to do, even if we don't think about it.

Never gonna get over how the anime made this scene just so,, haunting and elevated. Like I love the manga but I love how the anime has taken these scenes and elevated the themes of death and rebirth with simple shots like this and it’s why even after reading all of the manga I still get excited for the anime because I *know* the anime will not only be a faithful adaptation, but also an artistic masterpiece as it uses the medium to its advantage
