Big List of Cat Names

There’s lots of reference lists out there but none of them are exactly what I want so I made this for personal reference, and you can all look at it also if you want. Here is EVERY prefix and suffix EVER used in canon (with exception of half-kittypet names) as well as some extra ones, courtesy of the warriors wiki and Ailuronymy’s lists, plus whatever else I could find. Prefix list is organized by potential color usage. Note, some more colorful plants take a bit of artistic license in deciding their closest cat-color equivalent. In general blue/purple flowers = gray, red/magenta = ginger, pale pink/yellow = cream. Some prefixes are repeated if they can be interpreted as more than one color, or if different parts of the thing can be different colors (e.g white holly flowers, and red holly berries). Clarifications and lesser known plants/animals have a short definition in parenthesis to avoid you having to google too much, you’re welcome (I joke, it’s mainly for me, I keep getting poplars and plovers mixed up)

Flora and fauna isn’t based on a super specific place. So far as we can tell, Warriors takes place in a fictional area resembling a combo of the USA and the UK. I favored England wildlife when making the list, but I’m assuming anything that can be found (or was previously found before dying out unnaturally, and thus plausibly could exist in such an area again, such as with wolves) in or around the UK and the east coast-ish area of the USA to be fair game. List may be updated over time, feel free to send in your own suggestions to add.

Dirt daubers are long, slender wasps. The name of this wasp group comes from the nests that are made by the females, which consist of mud molded into place by the wasp's mandibles. They are also called "mud dauber, " "dirt digger," "dirt dobber," "dirt diver", or "mud wasp". -To make someone easier to influence and to break someone's resistance to a situation; Take an egg and poke a hole in it, filling it with poppy seeds, black mustards seeds, calamus root, and a pinch of cayenne, then add a bit of pulverized dirt dauber's nest. If you have personal concern include it in the mix and write their name on the egg in a complete circle. Light 3 Black candles dressed with my Triple Confusion Oil and place them in a triangle around the egg as you pray Psalm 8:6. Fauna

By the time the people on the Serenity came ashore, the islands were covered in pristine forests. It was like God’s Take Two of Eden. It took a bit of research for scientists to realize that the forests aren’t as ancient as they looked. Today, we now know that the biggest of the islands had been an actively erupting volcano. Much like how Krakatoa would a few centuries later, Mount Balder blew its top so hard, almost nothing could live there.

Of course, it didn’t stay that way for long. Just like Krakatoa, Indisclosednia became green again. It’s its own little everyday miracle.

This also means that everything that lived here today got here much sooner. Many islands in the South Pacific have plants and animals you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Not in Indisclosednia. Every animal you find here is a common (or sometimes, rare) species in the region that just swam, flew, or floated in here. We believe this was because the islands were new. Mount Balder was likely still underwater until about a thousand years ago, and it’s only been quiet for a few centuries.

Since her reintroduction to the wild, Rascal the rescued New Zealand Sea Lion has acted as the unofficial animal ambassador for the country’s conservation movement.

Mammals

Islands like these couldn’t be settled by land mammals because most of them couldn’t swim very far. Almost all of the land-dwelling mammals you see in Indisclosednia came with the humans. The one exception are about five species of native bats, which include the two species of fruit bats that annoy the fruit farmers to this day. The insectivorous bats, on the other hand, we encourage.

Aquatic mammals, however, are a bit more common. Whales can be spotted not far off from the atolls, while the lagoons are calving and feeding grounds for dugongs (Dugong dugon). A small straggler colony of New Zealand sea lions (Phocarctos hookeri) has made its home in the southern shores just on the outskirts of Hoonoisweir. They are under government protection and are taken as a symbol of friendship between New Zealand and Indisclosednia.

Birds

Indisclosednia is a bird’s paradise. Sea birds are the most familiar to the islands’ inhabitants. Gulls, boobies, albatrosses, and terns have breeding colonies in the beaches of the west of the main island and on the atolls. Wading birds are a common sight in the lagoons and mudflats north of Arboria. The sea bird colonies are so huge, they leave behind a lot of poop. Harvesting the poop as guano is one of our most important industries.

The lush rainforests surrounding Mount Balder are home to several more bird species. Their presence adds a riot of color to the country’s green carpet. Common forest-dwelling birds include common species like the Pacific robin (Petroica pusilla), blue-crowned lorikeet (Vini australis), and silvereye (Zosterops lateralis) to widely distributed yet vulnerable species such as the palm lorikeet (Charmosyna palmarum) and friendly ground dove (Alopecoenas stairi).

Reptiles and Amphibians

Amphibians and reptiles likely drifted to or swam up from neighboring places. The largest terrestrial animal known in Indisclosednia is the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus). They’re not especially common here. While you can spot them sometimes,they haven’t been spotted laying eggs here and we assume they’re just transients from other islands.

Other well-known reptilian visitors include the hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) and green (Chelonia mydas) sea turtles. Unlike the crocodile, they are known to lay their eggs in the undisturbed white sand beaches. Sea snakes and kraits are a common hazard in the reefs and lagoons in the region.

All of the species of frogs and land reptiles such as iguanas, skinks, and geckoes are known to occur in other islands. They likely floated to the archipelago from driftwood from places as far as Fiji, Samoa, and New Caledonia.

Terrestrial Invertebrates

Invertebrates make up the largest group of animals in the archipelago. The land invertebrates alone make up 2,000 species. Many of them live in the tree tops of the rainforests. They serve an important role in keeping the forests alive. Ants and wasps are symbiotic pollinators to many species of fruiting trees, figs especially.

One species of mosquito (Aedes polynesiensis) is native to the islands, much to the people’s annoyance. Their numbers are thankfully kept in check by an assortment of native predators, including the bats. Other bothersome invertebrate neighbors include the coconut crab (Birgus latro) and several species of land crabs (Cardisoma carnifex, Geograpsus grayi).

There have been as-yet unconfirmed reports of an undetermined species of Tahitian snail, thought to be critically endangered, being naturalized in the gardens in Baywood. And speaking of introduced species, non-native mosquitoes, house flies (Musca domestica), and red ants (Solenopsis invicta) are annoyances to watch out for. Especially the ants.

Black marlin are a favourite of anglers. The fish is only available to be caught for consumption in a narrow band of the year.

Aquatic Life

The various aquatic habitats in Indisclosednia teem with life. The reefs and lagoons that surround the islands greet the eager diver with a colorful array of fish, coral, and other invertebrates. Watch out for the black-tip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), though. They breed in some of the lagoons and shouldn’t be disturbed.

The rivers themselves are home to a few anadromous (fresh-and-saltwater) species. Some of these species can be fished for and eaten. Bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) are not unknown in the river systems in the main island, but don’t count on catching them.

For anglers, the real prize is in the open water. Pelagic fish such as skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis), albacore (Thunnus alalunga), and yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and game fish like black marlin (Istiompax indica) are found in relative abundance. The presence of marine mammals means that great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) are also frequently sighted in the waters.

Conservation

The most common threats to the fauna of Indisclosednia are habitat loss and pollution. Main factors include urban and exurban sprawl, uncontrolled expansion of the fruit and sugar plantations of the north, and the destructive activities of previously unregulated industries like forestry, commercial fishing, oil exploration, and phosphate mining. Illegal whaling is believed to take place just outside our country’s waters.

For a time, eating sea turtle eggs was sadly endorsed by my own father during his term as prime minister, and was not criminalized, until a few years after his term.

Recent legislation brought much needed protection for the endangered species that call the island home. We have since built several national parks to help preserve the natural beauty of the islands. Development is limited around beaches where sea birds, turtles, and sea lions reside.

We also follow a strict catch and release policy for sports fishing. Trophy fish like marlin must be released unless they’re to be eaten. Catching them for consumption is seasonal and regulated by the government.

Осыпается с окон листва отражений. Парфюмерные лавки властями закрыты. Топчут сытые люди мощеную землю. Утверждает машина двухтактные ритмы.

Дряхлый призрак гераней, гардин и унынья по старинным домам еще бродит незримо. Но шлифует зенит свою линзу над морем и встает горизонт акведуками Рима.

Моряки, незнакомые с ромом и штормом, истребляют сирен по свинцовым лиманам. Ночь, чугунная статуя здравого смысла, полнолуние зеркальцем держит карманным.

Все желаннее форма, граница и мера. Мерят мир костюмеры складным своим метром. Натюрмортом становится даже Венера, а ценителей бабочек сдуло как ветром.

Спят его рыбаки на песчаной постели. Служит компасом роза на палубе шхуны. Плещет бухта платками прощальными, склеив два стеклянных осколка, акулий и лунный.

Горький лик синевы и песчаные пряди полукруг парусов замыкает подковой. И сирены зовут, но не манят в пучину, а плывут за стаканом воды родниковой.

О Дали, да звучит твой оливковый голос! Назову ли искусство твое безупречным? Но сквозь пальцы смотрю на его недочеты, потому что тоскуешь о точном и вечном.

Ты не жалуешь темные дебри фантазий, веришь в то, до чего дотянулся рукою. И, стерильное сердце слагая на мрамор, наизусть повторяешь сонеты прибоя.

На поверхности мира потемки и вихри нам глаза застилают, а сущности скрыты. На далекой планете не видно пейзажей, но зато безупречен рисунок орбиты.

Усмиренное время разбито на числа, век за веком смыкает надежные звенья. Побежденная Смерть, отступая, трепещет и хоронится в узкой лазейке мгновенья.

И палитре, крылу, просверленному пулей, нужен свет, только свет. Не для снов, а для бдений. Свет Минервы, строительницы с нивелиром, отряхнувшей с развалин вьюнки сновидений.

Древний свет, он ложится на лоб человечий, не тревожа ни сердце, ни рот говорливый. Свет, который страшит дионисовы лозы, водяные извивы, речные разливы.

Ты художник и прав, отмечая флажками очертанья границы, размытые ночью. Да, ты прав и не хочешь, чтоб форма размякла, как нежданного облака ватные клочья.

Нет, ты смотришь в упор, ты вперяешься взглядом и копируешь честно, без фантасмагорий. Эту рыбу в садке, эту птицу в вольере, ты не станешь выдумывать в небе и в море.

Осязаемость, точность, задача и мера. Это взгляд архитектора на обветшалость. Ты не любишь земли, где растут мухоморы, и на знамя глядишь, как на детскую шалость.

Гнутся рельсы, чеканя стальные двустишья. Неоткрытых земель на планете не стало. Торжествует прямая, чертя вертикали, и вовсю прославляют Евклида кристаллы.

Да, но есть еще роза. В саду твоем тоже. Путеводная наша звезда неизменно. Словно эллинский мрамор, слепой, отрешенный и живой своей мощи не знающий цену.

Раскрывает нам хрупкие крылья улыбок, заставляет забыть о работе и поте роза радости без облюбованных терний. Пригвожденная бабочка, весть о полете. Есть она, эта роза.

О Дали, да звучит твой оливковый голос! Молода твоя кисть, и работы незрелы, но сквозь пальцы смотрю на твои недочеты, восхищаясь, как точно нацелены стрелы.

Мне завидны и твой каталонский рассудок, объясненье всему находящий упрямо, и в груди астронома червонное сердце из французской колоды. Без единого шрама.

Мне понятны усилия мраморной позы, вызов улице, страсти, волненьям и бедам. Хорошо, когда в бухте морская сирена шелестит перламутровым велосипедом.

Но важнее другое. Не судьбы искусства и не судьбы эпохи с ее канителью, породнили нас общие поиски смысла. Как назвать это — дружбою или дуэлью?

Остальное не в счет. И рисуешь ли букли своенравной Матильды, Тересу с иглою или женскую грудь, ты рисуешь загадку нашей близости, схожей с азартной игрою.

If I could cry out of fear in a lonely house, if I could take out my eyes and eat them, I would do it for your mournful orange tree voice and for your poetry that comes out screaming.

Because for you they paint the hospitals blue, and the schools and seaside barrios swell and are populated with the feathers of injured angels and are covered with the scales of bridal fish, and the sea urchins are taking to the sky: for you the tailor’s shops with their black membranes filled with blood and spoons, and they swallow torn ribbons, and they murder with kisses, and they dress in white.

Someone has been killed, perhaps they have lost their jobs in the offices, in the hospitals, in the elevators, in the mines, the stubbornly wounded beings suffer, and there is purpose and weeping everywhere: while the stars run in an endless river there is profuse weeping in the windows, the doorsteps are worn from the weeping, the bedrooms are wet from the weeping that comes in form of a wave to eat away the carpets.

Federico, you see the world, the streets, the vinegar, the farewells at the stations when the smoke raises its decisive wheels toward where there is nothing but some separations, stones, tracks.

There are so many people asking questions everywhere. There is the bleeding blind man, and the irate, and the downhearted, and the miserable, the tree of fingernails, the bandit with envy on his back.

Thus it is life, Federico, here you have the things that my friendship can offer you from a melancholic, manly man. Already you know many things for yourself. And you will know others slowly.

Classic Baddies for the Thirteenth Doctor!

As a fan of classic Doctor Who, one of my favourite elements of the new series has been the anticipation as to which classic villains will make an appearance. Not only is it cool to see more of these older monsters, but it’s also exciting to see how they update their look. Some really nail it too. Keeping the classic design of the Daleks while making them look more tank-like and utilitarian in 2005 was a masterstroke. I liked that they embraced the Ice Warriors’ original look as well. While I may not be as hot on the updated Silurians, or Autons, it’s always fun to see classic villains regardless.

When Chris Chibnall mentioned that there would be no classic villains in series 11, my heart sank a little. Are they necessary for Doctor Who to be successful? Not hardly. But it’s fun dammit. Even if they were cameos like the Macra or the Movellans, these were moments I looked forward to. I have a sort of checklist I like to go through with each series of new Who. Are there classic villains? Check. Does the Doctor meet a figure from history? Check. Series 11 has one of those.

It’s been no secret that a major criticism of series 11 has been its lack of compelling villains. I myself have been vocal about this disappointment. So I thought I would make up a list of 10 classic villains I would like to see the Thirteenth Doctor go up against. I’m basing these off a few factors. Personal favourites, Jodie’s vibe, the era, etc. Enjoy! And feel free to add your own!

1. Autons

First Appearance: "Spearhead from Space" (1970)

I know they have already returned. I know I said I didn’t like their update. That’s exactly why they’re on this list now. I didn’t exactly hate the updated Autons when I first watched them. At the time, I didn’t have any classic villains to compare them to, as they were new to me. I thought they were pretty corny and not very scary, even as they did openly murder people in the streets of London. But when seeing "Spearhead from Space," for the first time, I was supremely creeped out. The newer Autons remind me of the movie theatre scene in “Human Traffic.” Just a bunch of dancers doing the robot. Not very scary. And turning the Nestine consciousness into a big vat of CGI goo, as compared to a giant plastic space squid seems like a crime. They’re due an update.

2. Voord

First Appearance: "The Keys of Marinus" (1964)

These guys creep me out. Their costumes are really stupid, and I still find them creepy. They’re like spiky fish men mixed with Egyptian gods. Ignoring the weird "Voord became Cybermen," storyline, and focusing on the fishman aspect would be the way to go. Could you imagine their costume if updated correctly? I picture a mix between Edward Scissorhands and a scuba diver. I’ve wanted to see Jodie encounter these guys ever since "The Ghost Monument," reminded me of "The Keys of Marinus." Something about First Doctor villains with the first female Doctor kinda works for me too. Speaking of First Doctor villains…

3. Zarbi

First Appearance: "The Web Planet" (1965)

Ok, so this one is a bit of a cheat. I know the Zarbi aren’t really a villain by their own doing. In many ways, these oversized ants are just dumb animals. But the biggest way this is a cheat is because I just want them so we can have the Menoptera! I love those stupid moth cuties. I think an updated one of them could look really fun. Think the aliens from the queue scene in the "Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy," movie. Something between realistic, and fantastical. They would also add a much-needed sense of levity to the Chibnall era.

4. The Dominators

First Appearance: "The Dominators" (1968)

The Dominators are a race of men whose name pretty much describes their modus operandi. Having long ago developed beyond the need for women, these guys seem an obvious choice to go up against a female Doctor. Their look is simple enough to update. They need only to look armoured and militaristic. Their robot drones, the Quarks, would be the real challenge to update, but I’m sure they’d nail it. I would be interested in seeing a more bureaucratic ruling class of Dominators as well. Perhaps instead of having a male and female population, they have the soldiers and the suits. Could be a really interesting way to talk about the insular nature of toxic masculinity. This would fit in well with Thirteen’s villains being chauvinistic shitbirds that don’t like women much.

5. Axons

First Appearance: "The Claws of Axos" (1971)

I’ve heard the Axons get a bit of flack in the past, which is bananas to me. There’s so much potential there. They have a rather psychedelic look, and then they get super gross. I’ve always seen them as very retro style monsters. Jodie’s costume has a real 1970’s "Godspell," look about it, so I always picture her going up against monsters that look the part. They wouldn’t be hard to update either. I would make the golden lines on their humanoid forms slightly raised, like a system of fibres across their skin. And of course, their squidgy red form could be a tangled mass of CGI that kinda bubbles up from the gold lines. The transformation scenes could get very visceral. They’ve got a sneaky nature about them. Like anglerfish, their beautiful golden appearance conceals a horrific monster. They’re known for making Faustian deals with people fool enough to believe their lies. How could we resist?

6. The Mara

First Appearance: "Kinda" (1982)

Many people love the Kinda/Snakedance storyline. I wasn’t sure what to make of either serial, as the quality of both waivers. Over time, though, I’ve come to really appreciate them as stories. I have a love for characters that exist as a sort of gestalt. There’s something very unsettling about a hive mind. As The Doctor has three companions this time around. There’s lots of room for one of them to go off and become possessed by an evil snake god for a while. Either Graham or Ryan becoming hosts for the Mara could be an interesting way to explore their relationship. While the DVD release saw an updated version of the Mara’s snake form, I’m sure the modern show can do one better. They’ve already done giant spiders, now let's see them do a giant snake!

7. The Rani

First Appearance: "The Mark of the Rani" (1985)

While I am aware many people dislike the Rani, and the idea of Chris Chibnall choosing a character created by Pip and Jan Baker is unlikely, I still don’t care. Any character can be made good in the hands of a competent writer. All it takes is one good idea. Personally, I’ve never really gotten the guff she’s been given. As a woman capable of cruel scientific experiments, the Rani is a ruthless Time Lady with more guile than the Master. People want to see Thirteen with Missy because they’re both women now, but we’ve had an evil Time Lady for years, and I’d be interested to see what regeneration might bring for her… or him?

8. Rutans

First Appearance: "The Horror of Fang Rock" (1977)

First Mentioned: “The Time Warrior” (1973)

The Rutans are long enemies of the Sontaran race. I would love to see them amp up the danger by getting stuck in the middle of a skirmish between the two races. I would like to see the Sontarans presented as formidable once again. The Doctor Who video game "The Gunpowder Plot," did update their look, to a decent degree. Either way, modern Who could make a Rutan look much more imposing with CGI, or even practical effects. I’d imagine something like a green man o’ war. Jodie’s Doctor’s tendency to mediate during conflict could land her trying to broker peace between the two races. Could she be successful or would she have to count her losses?

9. Drashigs

First Appearance: "Carnival of Monsters" (1973)

Here we have yet another Robert Holmes creation! (The other two being the Autons and the Rutans) While mostly just mindless monsters that can eat through anything, I’ve always loved these horrific beasts. With heads the size of a Volkswagen bug, and an appetite for anything in their way, these guys could really add in a danger element. I doubt they could really carry an episode by themselves, but they’d make a great threat! They may be alien snake monsters, but you may have a creeping familiarity when looking at them. This is because the puppets used were constructed around the skulls of real dogs! While I’m sure these pups died of natural causes, the information has always given them an air of creepiness and realism. As Third Doctor era baddies go, these toothy terrors were some of the more believable creatures yet! They wouldn’t need much of an update, looks wise. Part of me would still want them to be puppets. I’d imagine Thirteen’s compassion for misunderstood creatures would send her on a danger defying attempt to save their lives!

10. The Scorchies

First Appearance: "The Scorchies" (2013)

Ok, so this one is another cheat. Technically these aren’t "classic Who" villains. They come from the audios, but I’m counting them because they’re from a Third Doctor era storyline! If you count the mention of the Rutans in "The Time Warrior," this marks the fifth baddie from the Third Doctor era. What is it about that period that is so mineable? Originally a species with bodies, they lost their corporeal form when their planet was invaded and they were transported to safety via television broadcast waves! In their new puppet bodies, they go from planet to planet hypnotising their inhabitants and burning them! Why? Because they’re salty. So why them? Well, for starters, look at these guys! Jodie’s Doctor has always reminded me as a bit of mad kids’ show presenter, with her bright colours and friendly appearance. Seeing her with puppets almost feels natural. I love the idea so much that I photoshopped it! It would also make Doctor Who history. While the Eighth Doctor mentioned his audio companions in "The Night of the Doctor," no audio characters have ever made an appearance in the show (at least to my knowledge). Appearance wise, they’d be easy to create. If they wanted to go the extra mile, they could partner with the Jim Henson Creature Shop for an added distinction. I feel like no matter what you do, these little critters could draw a crowd. People would watch just to see if Doctor Who has lost its damn mind! If done right, it could be a fun romp! Who says Doctor Who villains always have to be serious?

Our review this week is for EDF 4.1 and if you give me a jet suit, I will wear it. Skirts and heels be damned!

Quick Critique: Earth Defense Force 4.1

I reviewed one of the earlier EDF games before and you can probably just cut and paste most of that review, because the games are pretty much all the same. Big. Dumb. Explosive. Cheesy B Movie Sci-Fi Fun. Although, 4.1 is laid out a lot better than the previous game. It has much better early missions and objectives and no ant hole demolition bombings (which made me despise the PS3 game), so it's a lot more enjoyable and lot quicker to get to the fun. It's oddly great at setting up a progression in the story, which is not something you'd think EDF would do better than games with some budget. There are multiple "boss" style creatures that you encounter across missions who you can't beat when you meet them. Your first encounter is usually running away while picking off small enemy forces, then you meet the boss again in smaller skirmishes where you may be able to pick off small pieces or stun it, and then when you finally get to meet the boss for the real showdown, it feels fantastic and lends an even greater sense of accomplishment to taking down a monster the size of a skyscraper, which is already an inherently accomplishing event.

The biggest problems with EDF still come mostly down to quality of life issues. You have to pick items off the ground one by one (and stages usually drop dozens of them). There needs to be a way to suck in nearby boxes or just collect all of the armor and weapon boxes at the end of the level (that way you couldn't suck in health boxes). Dead enemies count as objects you can't walk through so you spend a lot of time waiting for enemies to despawn so you can pick up the items they drop (but vehicles and debris don't count as obstructions so they already have the solution to the annoyance if they'd just use that). You need to set your max armor after every level by entering and exiting a menu (this may have been a bug because it stopped happening after a while). Beating a harder stage doesn't automatically check off the same stage at a lower difficulty, so you'd have to beat all 89 stages of the game 5 times each with each character to unlock everything. That's 1780 stages and while I enjoy EDF, I do not enjoy 1780 much of EDF. There needs to be a better way to do upgrades than just random drops. Many of the weapons are just slightly better versions of earlier weapons, so it would make sense to turn it into an upgrade rather than a completely separate weapon that's just going to sit in your inventory cluttering it up. I want to be able to research weapons or upgrade them through use, Ratchet and Clank style. This would encourage you to try different weapons and not rely on your allies to fight for you. The bosses could drop base weapons and aliens could drop upgrade materials instead of loot crates with random weapons that don't even scale to your difficulty (enemies on Hardest still drop the level 0 weapons from Easy). Ultimately, this is what sapped my desire to do anything more than go through the game with just the Wing Diver. Spending all that time walking around collecting items, only to die at the very end of the mission because the brain-dead AI characters walked in front of me as I was firing my gun causing me to take the entire shot myself and dying in a single hit, which then causes you to lose every item you picked up is horrifically frustrating. The dozenth or so time that happened, I just ignored everything and went right to finishing levels to be done with the game. And unless you do all that tedious armor farming, the harder difficulties are just one hit kills from anything. Other characters have more health and different weapons than the Divers' electroshock explosives, but every other class is paaainfully slow (and not sexy anime jet ladies). All of this is capped off by one of the absolute worst final bosses to ever show up in a video game. It can infinitely spawn enemies, has multiple forms, can hit you where you can't hit it, stun locks you on damage, knocks you down on damage, changes the color of your screen on damage, is in a crowded arena with lots of knee high obstructions that get in your way, every piece of it has absolutely obscene health, it's far away so all your normal weapons don't work, and if you die, there's no checkpoint between its forms. It's not fun, it's not challenging in an intelligent way, it's just poorly designed. The boss is more of a gate on how much time you spent farming armor drops and your luck on getting a good sniper rifle to spawn from a loot crate than a real boss.

Despite its many, many self-inflicted problems, egads this game is still fun to play and a constant rush of dumb animal satisfaction. I ran around inflicting massive amounts of friendly fire with a giant reflective laser beam, cackling like an idiot. There's a mission fairly early in the game that it's easy to cheese, so you can set the game to the highest difficulty and pull in a bunch of level 50+ weapons when the game is normally giving you items at less than 5, so you wind up playing that level dozens and dozens of times to get decent weapons. It became adorable to hear the generic soldiers talk about protecting me as they fired on the giant ants with their machine guns before I busted out an alien gun capable of firing 30 bolts of glowing neon red explosive lighting and single-handedly saved the planet from destruction. I still thanked him for being there, for I am a benevolent future valkyrie of doom.

The EDF franchise is made of bad games, but they're bad games that I support existing. I'm glad somebody can go out there and make a low budget B movie game. It feels like every EDF game has the same budget but as time goes by, it just buys more as technology or engines or plug-ins get cheaper. The series just needs some competent designers that will take care of the annoyance of item collection, enemies firing through walls, or your AI companions killing you. The ways to fix EDF aren't costly or against its low budget, it just needs people with some sense calling the shots. You should never pay more than $20 for an EDF game, but once they hit that sweet spot on price, it's some of the most fun you'll get out of $20 well wasted.
